Designs of bridges vary depending on the function of the bridge, the nature of the terrain where the bridge is constructed and anchored, the material used to make it, and the funds available to build it. This module explains the types of bridges and their design characteristics.

The requirement of long span bridge is increase with development of infrastructure facility in every nation. Long span bridge could be achieved with use of high strength materials and innovative techniques for analysis of bridge. Generally, cable supported bridges comprise both suspension and cable-stayed bridge. Cable supported bridges are very flexible in behavior. These flexible systems are susceptible to the dynamic effects of wind and earthquake loads. The cable-stayed bridge could provide more rigidity due to presence of tensed cable stays as a force resistance element. The suspension bridge could assigned more span in the field of bridge. So, combination of above two structural system the innovative form of cable-stayed suspension hybrid bridge could be the better option to provide more span. Here, attempt is made to analyse long span cable-stayed suspension hybrid bridge. The literature survey on the topic of analysis of cable-stayed suspension hybrid bridge is presented in the current paper. Modeling of cable-stayed suspension hybrid bridge in SAP2000 software and its validation is carried out. The nonlinear static analysis and modal time history analysis of cable-stayed suspension hybrid bridge is carried out in SAP2000 software. The time period of bridge for different mode shape is presented to compare the result of research paper with Sap 2000 software.

Nowadays suspension bridges are the pioneers in bridge technology. Of all the bridge types in use today, the suspension bridge allows for the longest span ranging from 2,000 to 7,000 feet. This type of bridge has cables suspended between towers and the cables support vertical suspender cables that carry the weight of the deck below. This arrangement allows the deck to be level or to arc upward for additional clearance. They are ideal for covering busy waterways. 2. INTRODUCTION
• A cable-stayed bridge has one and more towers,
from which cables support the bridge deck.
• A distinctive feature are the cables which run
directly from the tower to the deck, normally
forming a fan-like pattern or a series of parallel lines.
• This is in contrast to the modern suspension bridge,
where the cables supporting the deck are suspended
vertically from the main cable, anchored at both
ends of the bridge and running between the towers.
3. CABLE STAYED BRIDGES:
Cable-stayed bridges have towers, but cables from the
tower go directly to the road deck, instead of spanning from
tower to tower.

4. COMPONENTS
• A cable stayed bridge is a type of bridge
in which the deck (the load-bearing
portion) is hung on suspenders.
• Cables-suspend the roadway(deck) via
hangers.
• Towers- stabilize wire cables (offer little
support).
5. EVOLUTION OF CABLE STAYED BRIDGE
• Cable-stayed bridges date back to 1595, where designs
were found in Machinae Novae, a book
by Venetian inventor Fausto Veranzio. Many early
suspension bridges were cable-stayed construction,
including the 1817 footbridge Dryburgh Abbey
Bridge, James Dredge's patented Victoria Bridge,
Bath (1836), and the later Albert Bridge (1872)
and Brooklyn Bridge (1883).
• Their designers found that the combination of
technologies created a stiffer bridge. John A.
Roebling took particular advantage of this to limit
deformations due to railway loads in the Niagara Falls
Suspension Bridge.
10. ADVANTAGE
• Compared to other bridges types, the cable
stayed is used for longer spans than used for
cantilever bridges and shorter than required in
suspension bridge.
• A cable stay bridge is cheaper to built than
suspension bridge over a short distance.
• Good stiffness , large ground anchorages are not
required.
• It is a modern looking bridge economical for
construction, well balanced.
