Second Period Introduction
Studying a second language has positive effects on the children's
minds. Although when children are in primary school they aren't as young
as when they are in kindergarten, this is still a stage in which the child can
acquire and learn a new language without major problems. Here we
mention some of the advantage of teaching English in primary school:
- They have a great predisposition.
- You can motivate them with great ease.
- They are always ready for learning something new.
- They really enjoy the teaching-learning process.
- They take some risks when working on the language.
- They are able to puzzle new vocabulary out for themselves.
Also, there are some things we should bear in mind when teaching young
learners:
- As in very young learners, their concentration spam is short.
- They need multi sensory experiences in order to learn better.
- They get bored easily.
- Keeping them working silently can be a difficult task.
Teaching young learners is great, it has lots of advantages and,
fortunately, at this stage there aren't so many advantages as when teaching
very young learners, so for me it is the perfect time to start learning a
second language: students still acquire new things with great easy and at
the same time, they already know how to work in the classroom, and most
of all, they are aware that English isn't a game.
