I chose this project as I love to take photographs and use the camera. My influence is my
uncle as he is a wedding photographer. The bit I like the most is the editing side as I get to
make the image look how I want it. By creating Project Lola, it meant that I could come up
with my own musician and produce a tour date poster, album cover, magazine front cover
and a double page spread, plus a photography portfolio.
I picked three names which were Lillie Mae, Lola and Natalie Reid. From this I created a poll
on survey monkey so then my audience could choose. The name that appeared to be
popular was Lola.
I found the questionnaire to be irrelevant to my work as I got my audience to choose which
images they preferred best for the posters, magazine covers, and album covers and I
couldn’t really take anything from it, such as why they liked this one? As an improvement, if
I were to use images again, I would add in a text box so the audience could explain why they
like it.
For this project, I chose the audience 14 plus and aimed at any race or religion. This
audience would fit into a belonger psychographic as they are brand loyal and like to stick to
one product. I chose a musician as I have done a project like this before and I thought I
could do it again but use more skills that I have learnt so far.
I picked a couple YouTube videos to watch about photographers, how to dress a model and
different modelling positions. Some of them helped me with my project.
The first video was about four photographers who used the same model but all four chose
different locations and each of them used them in their own way. This helped my own
product as I had to use Mimi’s back garden and there really wasn’t much that was attractive
there so I had to use a wall with creeping leaves.
The next video is about how to dress the model. This video didn’t help as much but one
thing I did from was inspiration from a model called Sydney J Harper who was also the
model in the other video.
When I started my project, I had to make I was prepared with the model. I had to use two
different models in the space of three weeks as the Molly, the first model couldn’t do
another photoshoot due to being ill. I had to ask around again to see if wanted to do a
photoshoot and luckily, a girl called Mimi was happy to do it.
This time for feedback, we swapped classes, so we haven’t a clue who wrote our feedback.
My feedback was helpful to the work I had produced at the time. The feedback made me
change a lot. Some aspects, I have changed are the colours to make it brighter, the
positionings of texts and the texts around the slide are some of the feedback that was given.
I think this project is some of the best work I have created so far and I am happy with the
products I have created. I have used a consistent colour scheme and the images I have used
have been said to be professional and realistic. When I finished the project, I wanted to
create another album cover but didn’t get the time. However, the best piece of work is the
album cover because it is unique when you compare it to existing products.
A couple of weeks back, I created a new account on Instagram just so I can show my work
off. I have named it Sim K Photography and I have been uploading images nearly every day.
At the beginning, I was going to start using an app called ‘LATER’ which let you add images
and it would be scheduled for a certain time so then you don’t have to go back onto
Instagram and keep adding images. But it didn’t work. So far, I have been getting good
feedback off this account.
One way I can show my work off is the York Photographic Society or even a photography
competition. There is only one competition which I liked the best and it was ‘THE PORTRAIT
AWARD 2019’ as I thought it was more fitting to my work as most of my photographs are
portraits.
Thank you.
