The document summarizes the key conventions and codes that the author followed in designing the front cover, contents page, and double page spread for their music magazine. These include including a masthead, cover lines, images of artists, headlines, standfirsts, drop caps, and captions. The author notes some minor differences from the real magazine they were using as a reference, such as additional images or puffs, but overall sought to follow standard magazine design conventions. They discuss keeping similar elements between their initial drafts and final designs while making some minor adjustments based on feedback.

3. During the production of my music magazines front cover I included standard conventions
that are expect in every magazine, for example a large masthead which is positioned at the
top of the cover, having the main image cover the mast head slightly. I also included a
barcode in one of the bottom corners of the front cover. Another convention I used was
direct address from the model in the main image, I decided to use this convention as I agree
that it helps the audience to connect and interact with the magazine. Conventions that I
went against included anchored page numbers on the front cover as I decided to include
these in the contents page. By including a main image I am following the generic codes and
conventions that most magazines do by including a model on the cover. Having a main cover
line helps to tell the audience what they can expect to find in the main article of my
magazine, main cover lines are usually used in every magazine for this same purpose. I
included a puff on my magazine cover to grab attention and promote certain elements of my
magazine. I have used a colour scheme of pink and purple as I feel these colours help to
stereotypically represent pop. By using the stereotypical colours associated with a pop
magazine this conveys that my magazine is using stereotypes. I included an issue number on
my magazine the same as the real magazine to inform targeted audiences of the first ever
issue of my magazine, this could lead to more of my targeted audience buying the magazine
as they are interested in something which is new and exclusive. There were few differences
that I picked out from my magazine and the we love pop magazine. One difference was that
the we love pop magazine included cut out images of models around its front cover page.
This does not mean that my magazine is breaking codes and conventions as including cut out
images is an option. In addition we love pop magazine included a weblink, which real pop
magazine did not include on its cover page, including a weblink on the cover page is also an
option so again real pop magazine did not break any codes or convention.
4. These are images of the drawn draft for my cover page and my completed front cover page. As shown I have
made several changes but also kept much of my magazine similar to the drawn draft. I used pink and purple
colour schemes on both images to highlight that this is a pop magazine as I feel these colours are
stereotypical of a pop magazine. My cover lines are mostly all the same on my final product as they were on
my drawn drafts. One thing I changed from my drawn drafts was the inclusion of the ‘dress like amber’ cover
line and additional images of clothing, during the production of my magazine I changed this as I felt it was
too fashion related rather than music related. I instead created three music album covers and added them in
place of the clothes. The masthead colours are very similar. For my main cover line I added a white stroke for
my final product as during the construction I felt that the text need a lift off the page.
Drawn Draft- Cover page
7. I have followed codes and conventions for the contents page of my music magazine.
Masthead; Contents title; puff; page numbers and images, are all examples of the codes
and conventions I have used. I followed an expected codes and convention of including my
magazines masthead on the contents page. This is so the reader is remined of the magazine
they are reading. I also included page numbers on the contents page which is a generic
element of any magazine contents page to reference what is occurring on each page of the
magazine, this helps to keep it organised and make it easier for the audience to get where
they want in the magazine. I also added a puff which is not necessary, but this follows codes
and conventions of magazines. The puff highlights added information about what will come
further in the magazine. By using this puff I have given extra information to my audience
about the magazine. Images are a code and convention I used as they will always capture
the eye of the audience and make them curious to purchase the magazine. Anchored page
numbers are included with each image as well as a grab quote which gives the reader a
further insight to what the image is about and what it is related to. This follows codes and
conventions as usually magazine contents pages images are anchored to give the audience
more information about the image. There were more differences between my contents
page and we love pops contents page than each of our cover pages. One differences is that
real pop magazine included social media references which encourages the audience to
interact with the magazine brand outside of the magazine. We love pop also goes against
the codes and conventions of having a contents title on the contents page, it is not a
necessary element for the magazine but it would help the audience to understand what the
page is about.
8. My drawn draft and final product were kept similar. I have added social media references and a cut out
image. I added a cut out image to my magazine as it is stereotypical of a pop magazine to include cut out
images and I need to show I was following stereotypes. At the bottom of my contents page I only included
two additional images rather than six as time was limited for me to gather more model. The editorials text
was optional which I chose to include on my drawn draft and final product as it helped fill white space.
Anchored page numbers were included on both the drawn draft and final product as this is a generic code
and convention for a magazine.
Drawn Drafts- Contents page
11. I have again followed codes and conventions for my music magazine’s double page spread.
I have included a headline stand first, grab quote/ caption, drop cap and main image. I
followed codes and conventions by using a headline which tells the audience what the
article is about. The mode of language of the headline had to be short but catchy and
appealing to the audience to want to read the article. I have used a drop cap to make it
clear to the audience the starting point of the article also followed codes and convention's
of including a grab quote/ caption which I placed underneath my secondary image which is
wrapped between the article. The grab quote draws attention to the article. Another code
and convention which I followed was the inclusion of a main image of the artist being
discussed in the article. This is a vital code and conventions as the audience need to be
able to visualise whom the article is about. There were almost no differences between my
double page spread and the real magazines double page spread, this is because I did not
challenge any of the stereotypical codes and conventions of a magazine. The only
difference was that we love pop magazine included a puff on there double page spread to
promote the artist and their merchandise
12. My magazine has been kept very similar to
my drawn drafts. I kept to my decision to
have my artist on one page and the article on
the other. I kept my colour scheme the same.
As I wanted the front cover, contents and
double page spread colour scheme to all
coordinate. Adding pink to my double page
spread gave the page more colour and made
it more enjoyable to look at. I used a drop
cap on both my drawn draft and final product
as I knew I wanted to the audience to be able
to navigate easily to the beginning of the
article. I included a secondary image wrapped
around the article similar to my drawn drafts
which was done to add more interest and
more images of the artist they are reading
about. The positioning of my model slightly
changed from my drawn drafts and final
product as the model did not look
comfortable in my drawn drafts positon
however, I am happy with the final product
position as she still looks to be having fun
which was the aim as connotations of pop is
that it is a fun and enjoyable music genre.
