Summa Contra Gentiles By Thomas Aquinas
In his book, Summa Contra Gentiles, Thomas Aquinas initiates his consideration of divine nature as
he explores and reflects upon some of the most challenging questions surrounding Catholicism.
Specifically, he focuses on the essence and the existence of God as to provide insight into the natural
ends of human life. Therefore, his consideration and analysis of central Catholic beliefs allows
Catholics to better understand their position as members of a larger structure of human existence. This
paper will analyze the simplicity and existence of divine nature, through an examination of human
wisdom and divine assistance. Before Aquinas begins his consideration of God s divine essence, he
discusses the necessity of wisdom in coming to truly understand ... Show more content on

He speaks to the human desire for happiness, which he defines as the fullness of being. However, he
asserts that we cannot achieve this alone. We require God s grace. This idea is supported by the text
when Aquinas states: For the means must be proportionate to the end: if then man is ordained to an
end transcending his natural capacities, he must be furnished with some supernatural assistance from
heaven, enabling him to tend to that end. (SCG 3.148) Here, Aquinas suggests that grace perfects
nature without distorting it. Accordingly, man was created to be dependent on his creator and what he
provides. This is significant as it implies that man is not able to derive his own holiness from his will,
as in accordance with Pelagian belief. Therefore, much of God s goodness originates from His
willingness to help man get what he

How Did Home Influence Roman Culture
Wealthy romans lived in large houses that were beautifully constructed. The floors were covered with
mosaics, stone or marble. The walls were lined with marble slabs or were frescoed. The ceilings were
bare, exposing beams, but in finer houses they were covered with ivory, gold or were frescoed. The
layout and design of Roman houses reflected the Roman culture. There were many rooms in these
roman homes. The names of the rooms are: triclinium, ala, cubiculum, vesibulum, exedra, taberna,
peristylium, culina, atrium, and the tabilum. Each one of the rooms had a specific purpose. Romans
would enter the villa through the vestibulum, which was a long, narrow hallway that led to the atrium.
The atrium was a very large airy room, lighted by and opening ... Show more content on

Throughout the home wealthy Romans would have numerous amounts of household servants. They
might be working in the culina to prepare food, walking children to school, cleaning the villa, washing
clothing, etc. There were many cubiculum throughout the household Roman slaves would normally
sleep in smaller, darker rooms. Roman men were the masters of the family and the home. They would
greet their patrons in the atrium where their daily work routine began. Wealthy Roman men would
work which might include, writing letters, seeing patrons and or going to the forum to meet other
businessmen. The forum was normally right outside of wealthy Roman houses. While poorer men
would become shopkeepers, farmers or craftsmen and their homes were located further away from the
city. After their daily work routine Roman men would return home expecting dinner from their wives.
He would greet his family in the atrium and then go to the triclinium for a meal. Women were
expected to stay at home every day. They were expected to complete their chores around the house
and watching the children while their husbands were at work. Women would normally wake up with
their husbands to prepare breakfast or help their husbands get ready for work and their day. Women
who had wealthy husbands would sometimes spend an entire day planning a dinner party, which
would take place when her husband returns home. Poorer Roman women would

False Perception Paper
False Perception There are times when correlation between variables appears to present an obvious
causal relationship, however, it is irresponsible for both researchers and the news media to produce
predictions without looking for alternate factors. A good example is decades of reporting on the
relationship between single mother households (independent variable) and rising crime rates
(dependent variable). The preceding example was explored by Philip Cohen (2012) in his article on
the single mom and murder rate relationship during the 1990s, in which he noted, I think single
mothers especially those who were raising kids back in the 1990s deserve an apology from the
conventional wisdom purveyors of that time (para. 2). Beginning with an exploration of the media s
interpretation of this relationship, I will also further examine the correct interpretation, and the policy
implications of Cohen s finding. The Media s Interpretation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Sadly, it appears the media bought into an apparent epidemic and began to publish reports, perhaps
driven by confirmation bias or simply failing to conduct enough investigation. The published reports
in the 1990s cited the cause of rising crime rates as the rising amount of black households with single
mothers that were unable to control their children, instill values, etc. (Cohen, 2012). While I believe it
is not that farfetched to assume there is a relationship between family structure and the youths from
those households committing crime, I also believe there are other factors involved that the media
should have

The Importance Of Oil Production

Where the data may be inaccurate would be regarding each countries reporting policies. Specifically,
the author s are concerned regarding the integrity of the Venezuela production numbers. Current
economic and political conditions in Venezuela are causing areas of concern for the United States,
South America, also in the legitimacy in the contribution of the global price of oil. As Venezuela
obtains the largest amount of oil reserves, along with the countries high dependence on the production
of oil, on going political conditions are creating large areas of concern. With Venezuela being such a
large oil producing country, 95% of the country s revenue comes from the sale of oil. In having such a
heavy dependence, the large collapse in the production of oil, with a decline of 120,000 barrels a day
with failed infrastructure developments, unpaid shipping fees, and contaminated oil, Venezuela s
relations with major oil producing countries and OPEC is resulting in areas of concern and thus
importance. Along with placing U.S. sanctions that prohibit any American financial institution from
providing assistance to the Venezuelan government to help in economic bailout, current Venezuelan
president is constantly pursuing changes in oil price from OPEC to increase so that increased oil
prices would help pay off the millions in debt that the country owes. With Venezuela producing the

Genesis 25 Thesis
Genesis 25 is primarily written in prose, but God s words to Rebekah about her pregnancy emphasize
the importance of what he is saying to her and the fate of her sons. The poem reads, Two nations are in
your womb, and two peoples born of you shall be divided; the one shall be stronger than the other, the
elder shall serve the younger (Gen. 25:23). God has foretold that the two brothers will have numerous
descendants that are able to form two nations, but he doesn t explain why they will be in conflict. As is
common in the Bible the youngest son achieves superiority over his elder brother. There is an odd
choice of words in this poem though. By saying that Esau will serve Jacob it implies that he will
forever be in his shadow, however they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rereading it though he does have a point to be this way, Jacob received the best blessing from his
father and when begged to also get a blessing Isaac gave Esau a rather harsh and pitiful one. What was
said in Jacob s blessing was the complete opposite for Esau. The word serve is also mentioned in this
poem, Isaac is telling Esau you shall serve your brother (Gen. 27:40), but there is no further evidence
that ever supports this claim that he does serve Jacob, unless both God and Isaac were not literally
talking about the brothers but the two nations they establish. Verse 40 also supports this idea with
Isaac s phrasing of, and you shall serve your brother; but when you break loose, you shall break his
yoke from your neck. (Gen. 27:40), in Genesis 33 Esau and Jacob meet again after several years and
Esau forgives his brother for all that he has done to

Indeed, employee empowerment is a well known tool for retaining employees, boosting operation
productivity and recovering customer services. Improper use of empowerment can also impact
negatively on such things as employees poor decision making 3
and management s fear of giving up control. However, employee empowerment has more positive
impacts on the front desk operations and this paper will suggest how to overcome those negative
aspects by showing the best practices used in hotel operations. Constraints One of the main constraints
in this study is the limited access to certain research materials that might be relevant to certain aspects
of the importance of empowering employees at front desk operations. All of the research will be based
on interviews with hotel professionals in successful resorts located in Las Vegas and the use of
published literature. Glossary Empowerment Empowerment is an idea which includes many
disciplines and areas of study such as economics, community development, education, psychology,
and studies of social movements and organizations, among others. According to the definition of The
World Bank, empowerment is providing individuals or groups with enough knowledge to allow them
to make educated choices so that the result of those choices leads to responsible decision making.
Hopefully these decisions will not

Sex Education and the Classroom
In today s society there is an on going debate over sex education and its influence on our children. The
question is no longer should sex education be taught, but rather how it should be taught (DeCarlo).
With teenage pregnancy rates higher than ever and the imminent threat of the contraction of STD s,
such as HIV, the role of sex education in the school is of greater importance now then ever before. By
denying children sex education you are in a sense sheltering them from the harsh realities they are
bound to encounter. Sex education has become an essential part of the curriculum and by removing the
information provided by this class we ll be voluntarily putting our children in danger.
During the teenage years every boy and girl ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since family structure has changed, so have the way children are being raised. Society cannot count
on all parents to instill morals into their children and teach them the facts of life or even the difference
between right and wrong these days. Parents just don t have the time for it. Recently the Vatican
released a document stating that parents alone cannot give children the positive sex education they
need to develop healthy attitudes towards sex (Euchner). Another view on the subject taken by the
Nebraska Public School system is that sex education in today s society is to complicated to be left to
the varying influences of parental attitudes and haphazard environmental exposure (Chaumont et al.).
Besides, even if the parent were around more often then not, the chances of a child approaching their
parent about the bird and the bees is very unlikely. These children need to have a place were the
information on this touchy subject is provided to them without them needing to ask. Kids don t go
asking their parents, this is the only way for them to find out answers because they are to embarrassed
to ask anyone else, says Pallodino, and eighteen year old from Virginia. (O Hanlon B8). In order for
children to grow up with the correct information regarding sex, it is necessary to have sex education
provided to them in schools.
Even though sex education seems as if it can do no wrong, there still remain many

Canadian vs. American Constitution
A governmental system is required in each aspect of our lives to maintain justice and regulate order
through a reasonable and unbiased approach. Rules and regulations need to be implemented within
society to ensure that the fundamental freedoms of individuals are guaranteed, both equally and
justifiably. This paper will discuss the importance and relevance of constitutions to our everyday lives,
with a particular focus on the Canadian Constitution and how it essentially allows us to live in a
democratic and free society. According to Christopher E. Taucer, constitutions empower the
government by setting out bodies with authority and their powers and limits on that authority, (2001,

The executive branch of the United States consists of the President, Governors and their Cabinets. The
Canadian executive branch is composed of the Queen or her representative the Governor General, the
prime Minister and the Cabinet. The integration of the court system is much different from the US
court structure. Provincial courts in Canada deal with less serious criminal and civil matters. All courts
above provincial courts are in the same system, all the way through to the Supreme Court of Canada.
Half of all judges, and all those sitting on superior courts, are appointed and paid by the federal
government. The US court structure is much more complicated, reflecting s greater historical and
constitutional status. The US has two parallel judicial systems: federal and state. The independent state
court systems have variable rules for appointment and election of judges, including the tenure. The
parallel federal court system in the US decides disputes between states and in state cases where one
party is out of state.
The supreme court of Canada has final authority over all public and private law, which includes
municipal, provincial, and federal law. The Supreme Court of the United States has a more limited
mandate; it deals only in federal legislation and the US Constitution. It plays no role over private law

Alopecia Areata Research Paper
Alopecia areata (AA) is an autoimmune disease that causes temporary or permanent hair loss. The
body attacks its own hair follicles, which ultimately causes them to stop growing. Typically, it is found
in small patches on the scalp but it can be diagnosed anywhere on the body. According to Petukhova et
al. (2011) this disease physically impacts 5.3 billion people just in the United States, affecting about 1
2% of the population. There is no known cure of AA and there is little evidence suggesting it is stress
related. Geneticists have been able to use genome wide association studies (GWAS) to recognize
genes that have affiliation with the onset of alopecia areata. Alkhalifah et al. (2010) observed
monozygotic twins because they are likely to have similar criterions and patterns of hair follicle
deterioration. They also observed that AA might be inherited due to patients having a family history of
this autoimmune disease. Human leukocyte antigens genes (HLA) are affiliated in alopecia areata
along with several HLA class I and II alleles (Alkhalifah et al. 2010). The HLA class II antigen is a
main contributor to the development of AA. This gene is a big expresser on the hair follicles and it is
expressed on immune cells, giving antigen peptides to a specific T cell, CD4+. These findings suggest
that CD4+ cells do indeed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Character Analysis of Elisa Allen in The Chrysanthemums...
Many readers who analyze Steinbeck s short story, The Chrysanthemums , feel Elisa s flowers
represent her repressed sexuality, and her anger and resentment towards men. Some even push the
symbolism of the flowers, and Elisa s masculine actions, to suggest she is unable to establish a true
relationship between herself and another. Her masculine traits and her chrysanthemums are enough to
fulfill her entirely. This essay will discuss an opposing viewpoint. Instead, it will argue that Elisa s
chrysanthemums, and her masculine qualities are natural manifestations of a male dominated world.
Pertinent examples from The Chrysanthemums will be given in an attempt to illustrate that Elisa s

If he gave her any personal praise, as a woman of distinct qualities (one who was vital to the farm s
survival), he might be empowering her. Thus, he keeps his praise for her superficial skills, growing
flowers. In this way, Henry frustrates Elisa by not seeing into her true character. The flowers represent
Elisa trying to find some way of escaping from her frustrated and repressed husband, not from her
own sexual frustration.
Since Elisa is a woman with more than superficial qualities, in addition to being a good worker, she
seeks a way to fit into this world she feels is limited to her. She feels that it is limited because it is
being dominated and interpreted by men. Thus, she tries to seek out some understanding from a
stranger who is looking to find fix it work. Many readers see Elisa as being cold and frigid towards the
stranger at first appearance. Yet, this is quite possibly her intelligent reaction from being experienced
with the realities of life. This scene portrays a combat of wits in which she shows herself a person of
right feeling, one who doesn t let her charitable instincts run away with her (Beach, 312). Here we
have a strange man, and men have proven to Elisa they have a limited understanding of a woman s
gentler qualities. Her reaction shows intelligence, good instincts, and is revealing of the period in

Chicago Bears Case Analysis
The 2016 season was a disappointment for the Chicago Bears. They finished with a record of 3 13,
Quarterback Jay Cutler and wide receiver Kevin White were both dealing with injuries, wide receiver
Alshon Jeffery was suspended for four games due to PEDs, and the defense struggled. Despite all the
bad moments the Bears had last season, there were still some bright spots such as rookie running back
Jordan Howard rushing for 1,313 yards and wide receiver Cam Meredith becoming a playmaker in the
Chicago s offense. Out of the two scenarios, Meredith becoming a viable option was not expected
before the season began. The expectation was that Jeffery, White, and a combination of Eddie Royal
and Marquess Wilson would be the top three wide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Out of three, Cutler has the strongest arm but he only played in five games. Meredith s best games
happened with either Barkley or Hoyer under center. Last season, he had four games of 100 plus
receiving yards, including his first ever start, which happened in Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts
on the road. The 6 foot 3 Meredith dominated in the Bears 29 23 loss, playing opposite Jeffery. He had
nine receptions (12 targets) for 130 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown came in the second quarter
after Howard ran for 57 yards. On second and goal, Hoyer found Meredith who faked Colts
cornerback Patrick Robinson into thinking he was running a curl route and put on a double move for a
touchdown in the back of the end zone. https://youtu.be/o1bTdpYFnas However, that was not his best
game last season as that would come against the Washington Redskins. Even though the Bears lost 41
21, Meredith put on a show with nine receptions (12 targets) for 135 yards. The potential Meredith
showed last season should make the Bears feel comfortable about potentially making him the No.1
wide receiver. But that may not be easy because White is still there and they are probably hoping the
former seventh overall pick can stay healthy and put together a productive season. Not to mention,
over the offseason, Chicago added wide receivers Victor Cruz, Markus Wheaton, and Kendall Wright.

1990 Immigration
Throughout the years America has been chosen as a destination point for immigrants. In the colonial
era majority of migrants came from the Northern European countries. In 1770 during the
Revolutionary War immigrant numbers decreased, but rapidly increased in the 1840s 1850s. New
immigrants mostly came from Ireland and Germany than the European countries. Many immigrants
settled in New York City. By the 1860s New York became the home to over 1 million residents, but
half were immigrants with American born children. When the civil war ended there were many jobs
that needed to be filled so European immigrants filled those positions. Approximately there were 25
million immigrants that arrived in America from the Northern countries between 1866 1915. ... Show

Lucynell Cratet s Interactions With The Outsiders Short Story
In his interactions with the Lucynell Craters, Tom Shiftlet has a chance to achieve Grace. He has been
wandering and has no friends, and has found in this household a chance to work hard, watch a
beautiful sunset every night, and live a quiet life. This opportunity is hinted at when he first
approaches the two women sitting on the porch and turns his back to them to face the sunset: He
swung both his whole and his short arm up slowly so that they indicated an expanse of sky and his
figure formed a crooked cross. That crooked cross embodied in his figure represents his chance at
salvation. As he drives toward Mobile, having missed his chance, he prays, Oh Lord! Break forth and

A Report On Vigna Unguiculata
Introduction Vigna unguiculata is a common subtropic secondary crop utilized for sustenance amongst
populations. Also referred to as the cowpea, this commodity holds great value in tropical Third World
nations such as Nigeria since it serves as an inexpensive resource which provides protein and energy
(Dauost, 1986). Therefore, it is essential that this crop remains prevalent in today s agricultural world.
Unfortunately, Vigna unguiculata faces a large amount of predation from multiple species, one of
which is the bean beetle Callosobruchus maculatus. This pest, along with others, leads to crop failure
and a complete loss in the resource for potentially an entire agricultural season. Callosobruchus
maculatus, a plant feeding insect, compromises the integrity of Vigna unguiculata populations by
using either this plant or other dry bean species as a location to reproduce and lay eggs (Tuda, 2006).
Numerous methods to combat this agricultural problem have been tested and observed. One study
suggested artificially selecting certain Vigna unguiculata with key enzymes to hinder the growth of
Callosobruchus maculatus eggs within the beans (Filho, 1991). However, a definite correlation has not
been discovered and more studies are required. Other investigations utilized the implementation of
various oils, which functioned as a natural pesticide against Callosobruchus maculatus. Research

Introduction
Enzymes are molecules that catalyzes a chemical reaction by either increasing or
decreasing the chemical reaction up to an extent. Inhibitors are substances which slows
down a chemical reaction by reducing the activity of either a catalyst, substrates or the
enzymes. Most of the enzymes are proteins. They lower the activation energy of a certain
chemical reaction. Activation energy is a certain amount of energy required for the
reactants to convert in to products. If they cross the energy barrier, they convert in to
products. So enzymes don t allow the substrates to cross the barrier by lowering the
activation energy. Enzyme s characteristic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hypothesis is an explanation for an observed phenomenon that can be tested. In this
experiment there are different factors affecting the enzyme activity like determining
baseline reaction kinetics, varying substrate concentration, effect of changing pH on
enzyme activity, and determining the effect of other factors on enzyme activity. Each factor

Direct From Death Row The Scottsboro Boys
In Mark Steins play, Direct from Death Row the Scottsboro Boys, we follow nine young boys on a
journey through the American justice system and how they got there in the first place. An ordinary
train ride, a tat with some white boys, and an accusation that turns the world of these nine boys upside
down. This modern tragedy is the story of these young boys lives, and is the premise of how Aristotle
s poetics came to be. Aristotle came up with these ideas through natural philosophy which is defined
by observing the world around us, and through this process was able to come up with the six key parts
of tragedy as follows: (1) Mythos, (2) Character, (3) thought, (4) diction, (5) melody, and (6)
spectacle. With these six traits in mind, Mark Stein s was able to adapt the horrific tale and case of the
Scottsboro Boys and apply it to the format of a modern tragedy. Following the story we find our
character Haywood going from happiness to misery, an organized sequence of the events that took
place, and an ending that ties up all loose ends. While the adaptation may not be directly follow
Aristotle s poetics, however it does follow the formula and instead takes on a different interpretation
of his work.
Characters within a Greek tragedy should follow a basic set of guidelines in order to fit the premise of
Aristotle s poetics. The characters presented to the viewer should be consistent, good, likeable, and of
high status and reputation, but do not need to perfect (Connelly).

Leadership Corruption Of The United States
Leadership Corruption in American 1.1Introduction Corruption is almost legal and open in political
life of American. The political field of the United States is just as a big stage, on which those young
talent and who are in authority, show off as an old saying expressed, You just finished and I come on
the scene . However, there are doubts that people can hardly receive any hearing of news about a real
corruption in American, for the statesman do not corrupt in any unacceptable ways. In recent years,
many corruptive cases show frequent occurrence in America. It was only the tip of the iceberg. This
essay gives an analysis of leadership corruption from some specific examples. 2.1President Bush
Involved in the Case of AIRONGROUP,Inc Last December, the largest energy trading company
AIRON in the world made a record of 49.8 billion dollars on heritage protection. This case has
shocked the whole society and made the history of it. Recently, the details of the case are under a heat
discussion of American media. The misdeeds on trading, falsity on the profit reports and the close
relations with the Washington political circles were discovered thoroughly. What s even more

Cleveland Cavaliers Controversy
According to ESPN NBA Senior Writer Ramona Shelburne, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver plans to
address the significant issue of teams resting players. Silver has informed all teams that this issue will
be a top priority in the NBA Board of Governors meeting on April 6th in New York. He also made it
clear that teams that don t abide by the league s rules there will be significant penalties.
The main team that have made this an ongoing issue at least as of late has been the Cleveland
Cavaliers. A couple days ago, the Cavaliers rested their big three of LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and
Kevin Love against the Los Angeles Clippers. Both the general manager David Griffin and franchise
player James have made it known that some players indeed need the rest. Especially, if in the long run
the goal is a Championship. James, recently made the following statement that has caused quite a stir
of controversy:

It s easy for us as outsiders to criticize these players when we aren t partaking in the activity they are.
Then, you have former players from past eras weighing on this issue as well. Most recently, former
Utah Jazz star Karl Malone weighed in on NBA players resting with ESPN s Sage Steele:
Obviously, the perception of the NBA in that particular era was tougher. One could argue they game is
much more fast paced today than ever. Which, it doesn t take a genius to make the inference that could
be a reason for the recent need for rest for so many of ours stars today.
In no way am I making excuses for these guys. I understand there are some people that may have a
once in a lifetime opportunity to see these stars play. So, if the star they decide to go watch that day
misses what do they get in return? There should be some sort of agreement between the NBA

Punk Subculture Impact On Society
Participating cultures can establish groups in which self individuality can be attained. As people in
society seek others that share similar beliefs, ideas, and norms, the creation of cultures, subcultures

identities originate from a larger mass culture. Subcultures have additionally created an impact on the
individuals that make up these groups and consequently impact society. The punk subculture is not

What Is Apple Tv Persuasive Essay
A few months ago, a new Apple TV box was released that seemed to show signs of an iOS style, home

Edelstein s Occupation
DIPL 6310B Fall2014
Assignment 1
Q1: What is Edelstein s research question?
A: What is the reason of success and failures of military occupations?
Q2: What is the thing that is being explained in Edelstein s analysis?
A: He basically explained why some occupations last long enough to succeed while others failed in
the end. And in his analysis, he also made several points to support his opinion, which are as follows:
(1) In his analysis he explained how to code a military occupation as a success or a failure It s
basically measured by looking at the long term balance of interests gained by the occupying power
and the cost they paid out.
(2) The author s analysis explained what an occupying power should seek for to maintain ... Show

So in order to succeed, occupiers must both maintain their interests and convince the occupied
population to accept their long term occupations. And in order to make this possible, potential
occupying power should know three points. First of all, the need for occupation, commonly perceived
external threats, and credible guarantees are both the causes and the effects of occupation success;
Second, clear goals should be established and occupiers should be trained to be ready for occupations;
Third, great powers should anticipate the possibility of occupation and take their responsibility to act
before engaging into war.
Q4: How does Edelstein narrow down his research question to specific empirical questions?
A: In this article Edelstein first focused on the basics of occupations, dividing them into different
kinds, and gave metrics for success and failure of military occupations. After that he explained the
reason of success in military occupations and showed the dilemma that failing occupying power
would face, and then gave a conclusion to his theory, after all that, he narrow down his research by
using his conclusions and theory to discuss the implications of the argument for the current occupation
of Iraq and future potential

Effects Of Geopolymer Adsorbents
reorganization determine the microstructure and pore distribution of the material, which are critical in
determining many physical properties (Duxson et al., 2005; Duxson et al., 2007). Geopolymers
derived from different combinations of raw materials can easily be synthesized containing multivalent
cations (Alonso and Palomo, 2001; Granizo et al., 2002; Lee and Van Deventer, 2002; Yip and Van
Deventer, 2003). Therefore during the course of alkali mediated reaction, Al (IV) and Si (IV) are
converted to tetrahedral sites with an associated alkali cation to maintain electro neutrality
(Davidovits, 1991). The speciation of aluminum in alkaline solutions is restricted to Al (OH) 4 (aq) in

2.10 Adsorption isotherms
Adsorption isotherm is the relationship between amount of sorbate adsorbed by an adsorbent (solid)
and its equilibrium concentration at constant temperature (Theodore and Ricci, 2010). An equilibrium
is arrived at where a number of molecules arriving on the surface of an adsorbent equals the number
of molecules that are leaving (Thajeel, 2013). Equilibrium data is analyzed using commonly known
adsorption systems (Rahimi and Vadi, 2014). The earliest and simplest known relationships describing
the adsorption process are the Freundlich and the Langmuir isotherms (Jalali et al., 2002). It is a
versatile isotherm expression that can simulate both Langmuir and Freundlich behaviors ( Sips, 1948;
Nah et al., 1977). The Langmuir Freundlich isotherm can describe both the Langmuir type and
Freundlich type adsorption behavior and has been used for modeling pH dependent sorption effects of
adsorption

The Pros And Cons Of The Federal Prison System
In the United States of America there are currently two prison systems in place; the Federal prison
system, and the State prison system. Every state in the U.S. has its own Department of Corrections,
which is tasked with handling crimes committed at the state level (Allen, 2017). The state where the
crime occurred has jurisdiction over the individual that committed the crime. An individual, whom has
committed a crime within a state s jurisdiction that results in a long sentence, is sent to the state prison
system in that particular state (Allen, 2017). A long sentence encompasses a period of time which
exceeds a year, and a day; which is the length of time given to an individual convicted of a felony
crime. An individual convicted of a misdemeanor crime which is accompanied by a sentencing length
of less than a year, will serve their respective sentence in a jail. Once the individual has received their
sentence, they will go through an initial classification process (Allen, Latessa, and Ponder, 2013). The
purpose of the initial classification process is to identify the individual s custody level, work
assignment, and treatment. The initial classification process will differentiate between those
individuals that present different security risks, and supervision concerns. Factors such as the
individual s current offense, escape potential and prior criminal history are factored in during the
initial classification. Also, an individual s background attributes, such as mental

Prescriptive Effects Of Ideology And The Weapons Of Mass...
A leader cannot call something a genocide and then walk off the public stage without doing anything
to help because terminology does not just have descriptive qualities but prescriptive qualities as well.
The term Weapons of Mass destruction is limited to a select few innately powerful weapons, whose
deployment is controlled by a single or small group of people and that when deployed can kill a
monumental number of humans. This definition is very precise for a reason, these weapons must be
dealt with differently because responsibility for mass casualty when using a WMD lies with the
leaders instead of the masses. Leaders are solely responsible for the decision to take a large number of
human lives. The term Weapons of Mass destruction should not be expanded to include ideologies and
more primitive weapons, for unlike those already apart of the definition, ideologies and primitive
weapons are only so destructive when chosen to be used by the masses. By expanding the term one is
expanding an expectation that WMDs should be evaluated on the macro level. This is harmful to it
would conflate the importance of smaller scale choices, thereby misrepresenting history and hindering
the world s ability to learn from such mistakes. Ideology is the excuse and primitive weapons the tool
by which the masses create destruction they are not weapons of mass destruction themselves but part
of systems that create similar effects. Since distinction is vital to effectively understanding and

Future Visions of America in Looking Backward by Edward...
Published in 1888 Looking Backward depicts a future vision of America. Utopian Boston of the year
2000 is designed in a constructive method that excludes capitalism. Through the medium of romantic
novel, Bellamy seeks to impose the idea of socialism into the nineteenth century American society.
Written at a period when economic growth went off the rails triggering the rise in unequal distribution
of wealth, Looking Backward attempts to propose a reform in social and economic systems.
From the eyes of the narrator, the novel presents a spectrum of changes and possibilities for the 19th
century audience. Plagued by the social chaos of the Gilded Age, Julian West falls asleep with
difficulty in 1887 to wake up to the Boston of year 2000, and finds out that all the evils bothering him
in the 19th century have been cast aside.
As the last sparkles of the Civil War cooled down, a period of transformation took over U.S. and the
endeavour to restore post Civil War economy initiated. The Gilded Age, as Mark Twain referred, was
a time identified with economic boom and social change. During those years, U.S. experienced the
transition from agricultural to urban together with industrialisation, scientific innovations and an
economic boom. This modernisation evolvement however, was followed by negative outcomes: as
labour demand amplified the need for immigration broke out and poverty became a remarkable issue.

Experimental Procedures Of An Ige Antibody
There were several experimental procedures that were performed by Bayry et al that allowed for this
experiment to be performed. One of these procedures included treatment of an IgE antibody that is
produced specifically in mice, SPE7 with heme using the technique immunoblotting to determine the
polyreactivity of heme and the resulting consequences of the reaction. Immunoblotting, also known as
western blotting, is a type of an assay that is specifically used for the detection and characterization of
proteins1. According to Gallagher and Chakavarti, immunoblotting works by exploiting the specificity
inherent in antigen antibody recognition5. It involves the solubilization and electrophoretic separation
of proteins, glycoproteins, or lipopolysaccharides by gel electrophoresis, followed by quantitative
transfer and irreversible binding to nitrocellulose, PVDF, or nylon5. The immunoblotting technique
has been useful in identifying specific antigens recognized by polyclonal or monoclonal antibodies
and is highly sensitive5. This unit provides protocols for protein separation, blotting proteins onto
membranes, immunoprobing, and visualization5. Another technique used was an Enzyme Linked
Immunosorbent Assay or ELISA. The purpose of an ELISA is to determine if a particular protein is
present in a sample and if so, how much6. There are two main variations on this method and
whichever one is used depends on the type of experiment that is being run. One can determine how

Goals Of The Underground Railroad
What was the Underground Railroad? The underground railroad was not underground, or a railroad, it
was named this because the activities that happened had to take place in the dark or in disguise.
Routes were lines, stopping places were stations, and the ones who aided on the way were conductors.
The underground operations relied heavily on secret codes to tell passengers when it was safe to travel
and when it wasn t safe to travel. The most active members who helped the railroad were people of the
freed slave community such as Harriet Tubman. The different lines of the routes extended in several
directions throughout 14 northern states and the Promised Land of canada. Typically, enslaved African
Americans who left plantations and cities in Delaware, District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland,
Missouri, and Virginia were more likely to take refuge in the northern states, Canada and Western
Territories. Those who lived in the deep south often found freedom by escaping into Mexico and the
Caribbean. The Underground railroad was a system which existed in the Northern states before the
civil War that helped slaves escape. Slaves from the south were helped by sympathetic Northerners.
The ultimate goal of the underground railroad was to get slaves to a place of safety and freedom states
in the north and in canada. The closest the railroad ever came to being fully organized was in the 1830
s when abolitionists William Still, Robert Purvis, David Ruggles, and several others

Controversies On Native American Names
Dajana Nalvarte Sociology November 10, 2014 Controversies on Native American Names For many
years several schools, sports, companies, things, and mascots have their names named after Native
Americans. The Native Americans have been fighting to take their names back after so many years.
They feel that it is an offensive expression to use their names on things and want the names to be
changed to something else. Then you have the opposing side that say the name is a form of positive
respect towards the Native Americans. This becomes a controversy amongst both sides because both
have different opinions on what the names stand for. Throughout the United States about 4,600
schools use Native Americans names for their teams and mascot (99; pt.3). These schools use logos of
people, animals, and cartoon characters of the Native American to represent their teams (99; pt. 3). For
example, Huntley High School in Huntley, III has used a Native American name for their sports team,
and mascot for about 70 year (99; pt. 3). Not only is the school recognized for being the Redskins, but
they have been using the name Redskins respectfully for all these years (99; pt.3). Even though the
school is proud of the name and use it as a positive symbol others say they are degrading and offended

Aberdeen s Influence on Kurt Cobain Essay
Aberdeen s Influence on Kurt Cobain
The towns of Hoquiam and Aberdeen are located on the eastern edge of Grays Harbor in western
Washington state. If you are a fan of the band Nirvana, you have probably heard of these names. If
not, you are about to read how a town affected a person who in turn affected many people s lives.
Kurt Cobain was the singer and guitarist for Nirvana. He was born in Hoquiam (population 9,000) and
after six months of life moved to Aberdeen (pop. 16,500), an old lumber town at the eastern most
point of Grays Harbor. The town is about four miles wide and three miles long. On the northern and

The town also became the end of a railroad line because of the lumber companies. Prostitution
prospered with as many as fifty whorehouses in the downtown area. Prostitution was around until the
late fifties when the police finally ended it. (Azerrad 12) The lumber boom slacked off a few years ago
as the economy fell and available lands were depleted. Now people are worried that the Northwestern
logging industry will not be able to recover and Aberdeen is marked for a slow ugly death. (Gilmore

According to Kenn Oberrecht, Aberdeen s name is from a city in Scotland. The name is Gaelic and
means the meeting of two rivers. Aberdeen, in case you do not know, is at the joining of the Chehalis
and Wishkah rivers. It is about one hundred miles south west of Seattle and 48 miles west southwest
of Olympia. (164) The first sawmill was built in 1884 and the shipbuilding industry prospered until
the 1920 s.
If there is a single attractive thing about Aberdeen, it would be the 98 square miles of surrounding
estuaries, tidelands, and marshes that attract shorebirds by the hundreds of thousands. They come
every April and May to rest and feed for the long trip north to their arctic and subarctic nesting areas.

The delicate beauty of a flower has been recognized by every generation, starting at even the
beginning of time and prevailing during even the grimmest of situations. In 1920, two years after the
end of WWI, a now hailed woman by the name of Moina Michael began a tradition that would last for
years to come. She, like so many others, had been deeply affected by the war and, inspired by the
poem In Flanders Fields, proposed presenting the poppy flower as a symbol of remembrance of those

Wilson is one of the smallest yet most important people in all of The Great Gatsby. He is claimed by
his wife, Myrtle, to be a dirty little coward, which is most likely one of the reasons she leaves him in
the dust behind her (137). This statement establishes the fact that Wilson has a weakness of living
almost in fear. However, this fear backfires when Wilson finds a beautiful, silver dog collar. After
finding it, he jumps to the conclusion that it was a gift to his wife from a lover. Due to this realization,
he locks Myrtle in her room and plans to move West, proving that he had more strength than she had
anticipated. However, he does not have the emotional strength to follow through with it, and in a fit of
hysteria, Myrtle runs into the road and is instantly killed after being run over by a car. He was so
fearful of her that he did not stop her, and so ignorant that he did not realize his situation until death

(26). After Myrtle s death, something changes inside of him, something snaps, and it is best explained
through the words of one of Wilson s neighbors, Michaelis: He was his wife s man, not his own (137).

A Comparison Of Catch 22 And Captain Corelli s Mandolin
In Catch 22 and Captain Corelli s Mandolin, both authors suggest the unsettling idea that life holds no
universal conclusion because in actuality life is the continual clash of absolutes and therefore refuses
the reader the comfort of closure . Both novels handle the difficult subject of war using similar
postmodernist techniques to display it, such as fragmented narratives. However their intentions and
ideas of war are extremely different creating interesting comparisons.
De Bernier s novel, Captain Corelli s Mandolin, published in 1994, but set during the second world
war, is composed with multiple narratives, far from the omniscient narrator often found in 19th

When considering war we believe there is a good and a bad side, in the Second World War most would
conceive the Nazis to unequivocally be the enemy and therefore immoral. Perhaps this is why the
chapter The Good Nazi , in Captain Corelli s Mandolin, immediately unsettles the reader as there is no
irony in this statement. De Berneires presents Gunter Weber full of innocence and as someone who
has simply absorbed the propaganda of the Nazis. We see his innocence portrayed in The Good Nazi ;
Weber was a twenty two year old man and had never seen a woman naked before...Weber was a still a
virgin . The simplicity of De Bernier s language here reflects the simplicity of Weber as a character.
Weber causes us to question the limitations of our own heroism or our capacity to see beyond
propaganda. It could be argued that rather than the good Nazi he represents the ordinary Nazi, he
accepts what the state has told him as that is the easiest path. By presenting us with someone who is
ordinary it unsettles the reader as it draws a bond between the reader and the character. Rather than
blaming and seeing him as monstrous and all the other preconceptions society holds against Nazis, we
instead see qualities of ordinary humanity and ourselves in him. Dr. Iannis statement, there would be

author who founded the Virgin Group of companies describes red tape as a hinderance to startup
companies, as if its intended purpose was to limit or prevent success. The author uses his experience
with founding companies to elaborate on the cautionary measures a startup must take as it grows to
prevent the hierarchy of bureaucracy from taking over. The author illustrates his point by using the
example of the Tesla automobile company s recent clash with the state of New Jersey caused by the
companies desire to sell their electric automobiles directly to customers, although state statutes call for
automobiles to be sold through auto ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author s comments about Airbnb are shorter, presumably due to the fact that they adhere to the
rules and regulations laid before the company instead of refusing to accept them and accusing a
government official of illegal activity in the manor Musk chose to. This article strongly suggests the
common opinion on red tape, rules, and regulations implemented by government is that they are a
hassle, they prevent success, and their purpose is to create obstacles for startup companies. Perhaps
this article s intent of advice is skewed, but it effectively raises the questions of how can red tape be
monitored and applied to the necessary recipients in a way that they respect and understand the
necessary process? Büschgens, Thorsten, Andreas Bausch, and David B. Balkin. Organizational

This analysis reveals that Quinn and Rohrbaugh s Competing Values Framework serves as an
appropriate structure for displaying aspects of the culture of organizations. This framework is derived
from the two dominant dimensions of opposing values which are flexibility versus control and internal
versus external orientation. Through this article, that framework provides

Global Realization
Eric Schlosser s book Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All American Meal explores the effects
of the spread of multinational fast food corporations into other countries, and the resulting loss of
national culture. In his chapter Global Realization Eric Schlosser claims that The global expansion of
American fast food is homogenizing cultural identities; like Las Vegas, it offers a brief sense of hope...
that most brilliant illusion of all, a loss that feels like winning (Schlosser). Schlosser intentionally
chooses the order and content of the information and examples he provides in order to promote his
main claim. He uses both subtle and direct strategies to persuade his reader. In order to critically
evaluate the validity of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gumbel paints the picture of Mc Donalds restaurants around the world innovating and inventing
products unique to their geography, exposing food culture from one country to the rest of the world.
These days new ideas can and frequently do come from anywhere. ...plenty of other things that
originated thousands of miles away from Oak Brook, Ill., where the company is based, have either
already done so or are about to (Gumbel). This emphasis puts Gumbel away from Schlosser, but not
against; part of Schlosser s argument is the danger of the amount of power fast food companies have
gained. Gumbel attributes the success of many of the household name companies to a decentralized
model, where individual storefronts have a level of autonomy. This practice has been key in the rapid
expansion and popularity of these American grown companies. Here, Schlosser s claim is supported
by Gumbel s endorsement of the business model, the rapid expansion of industry has led to an
Americanization of cultures around the world. China s Big Mac Attack , by James Watson goes in
depth into the effect of American fast food on local culture in China, a place very obviously changed
by the introduction of the Big Mac. Watson s takes a stance on culture change that differs from
Schlosser, he attempts to show that Mc Donalds is no longer (or never was) infringing on

Mental Health, Tobacco Regulation, And Medical Marijuana
The policies introduced at the state level were associated with mental health, tobacco regulation, and
medical marijuana. The first bill is HB 1072, which seeks to grant prescriptive authority to
psychologists who meet specific education, training, and registration requirements. Supporters include
the Hawaii State Center for Nursing, Hawai i Medical Association (HMSA), and the Coalition for a
Drug Free Hawai i (CDFH). Due to the widespread shortage of mental health professionals in Hawai i,
these supporters believe that granting prescription privileges to licensed clinical psychologists will
increase access and treatment for mental health. This can potentially fill the gap that currently exists in
mental health services. Those that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Drug Policy Action group and the State of Hawaii Department of Health support this bill since it
will increase access to medication. However, both have reservations regarding the administrative
impacts this bill will have on marijuana dispensary operations. The Department of Transportation
(DOT) also support this bill. However, the DOT recommends they be included in the commission
along with law enforcement due to the potential increase in marijuana impaired driving that may occur
after passing this bill. Those that oppose this bill include the Coalition for a Drug Free Hawai i
(CDFH) and the Department of Public Safety s Narcotic s Division (PSD). Due to the PSD s duty to
enforce the Federal Controlled Substances Act, which includes marijuana, they believe they should not
be involved in the oversight commission. CDFH opposes the bill due to the lack of research conducted
on medical marijuana, which could potentially result in a waste of resources. This bill is stalled and
has not been scheduled for another hearing. The final bill is HB 1176, relating to the sale of e liquids.
This bill requires child resistant containers and warning labels for e liquids containing nicotine. The
Department of Health and the Hawai i Public Health Institute support this bill to protect children and
residents from e cigarette poisonings, especially when such liquids are offered in

Photography In Paul Strand s Essay Photography The New God
Photography and film are becoming more popular every day with people trying to one up each other
and also trying to figure out new and inventive ways to use the camera. In Paul Strand s essay
Photography the New God, he wanted to make his point that photography was assessable to anyone
and everyone and that man does all the work not the machine. In Extracts from the Work of Art in the
Age of Mechanical Reproduction, Walter Benjamin explains that works of art have always been easily
reproduced for profit and how film will be the most powerful instrument when it comes to new forms
of art.
At one time to reproduce a work of art it was only to be used to practice the artist s craft. With
reproduction popular right now the original aura is lost but trough ... Show more content on

Sometimes now it is a rarity to even find an original art piece because of the massive need for
reproductions. Turning pictures into film was another way to evoke a different aura that will stick
around instead of getting reproduced and lost in translation. In Manhatta (1920), filmed by Paul Strand
and Charles Sheeler shows the everyday life in Manhattan. Watching the film over and over again
gives the aura of growth, moving forward, and by using the New God it shows that we are advancing
in technology. Using the camera or New God that Paul Strand refers to in his writing s Photography of
the New God, he documents Manhattan in a way no one has ever seen. Paul strand believed that the
New God was to show knowledge when used as well as showing what the future has in store for us, by
filming Manhatta instead of taking just a picture he showing us the advancement to the future. The
film shows the immigrants that were transported to Ellis Island, the everyday working man building
up this great city, and at the end the hustle and bustle of the city people in the streets. This film was
documentation of New York before it was the great

Stereotypes In Lap Dance
In mainstream media and film, strippers are given a very narrow representation when they re even
included in a storyline at all: The women and men who make up the sex industry tend to be painted
with a broad brush, being portrayed as morally corrupt. It s implied that they either joined the industry
because of their negative traits, or that those traits were developed during their time working in it. This
harmful stereotype is pretty consistently perpetuated, and done so through both male and female
characters. The film being used here to provide a few examples of this stereotype is Lap Dance (Greg
Carter), a 2014 film about a woman who begins working as an exotic dancer to supplement her
income. When the main character Monica is first introduced in the film, she learns her father has
cancer. Soon after, the doctor informs Monica and her fiancé Kevin that insurance is no longer
covering his hospital stay. He them that the payment required for hospice care totals to fifteen
thousand dollars, which neither of them have. Monica is disheartened and takes up a job working at a
nail salon, where she runs into an old friend of hers who works as a dancer. The friend, whose name is
Tasha, tries to convince Monica to come dance with her at her club. At first, Monica insists she can t
do it. However, after the reality of the current money dilemma sets in, she decides she has nothing to
lose. When Monica begins dancing, she s still very innocent and naïve. Within the first few

Chick-Fil-A Christian Worldview
One s ethical belief system of what is right or wrong, is based on the lens in which one views life, or
the worldview that one subscribes to. These beliefs can be adopted from a host of circumstances,
consciously from a thoughtful introspective place, it can be shaped by one s familial upbringing, a
spiritual experience with God, or from an unreflective place derived unconsciously from one s value
system based on external resources. When shaping a conscious worldview in which our ethical belief
system is a derivative, the framework of ontology, epistemology and axiology gives us the ability to
ask who are we, what is truth, and how did we arrive at our values (Porter, 2013). As a Christian, this
author elects to support the ethical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On July 16, 2012, Dan Cathy the President and COO of Chick Fil A stated that his organization
believes in biblical meaning of marriage, and that they are not a Christian business, but runs the
business based on Christian principles. These comments were offensive to many Gay right groups,
which started a media campaign, boycotts and caused major advertisers to withdraw support from the
restaurant chain. Major politicians joined in denying Chick Fil A permits to open new restaurants in
their cities. However, to counter the negative press former governor, Mike Huckabee galvanized
support for the restaurant chain by orchestrating an appreciation day on August 1, 2012 in which this
campaign yielded record sales for the organization (Peters, Benjumea, Garner, Turner, 2013). Even
though there is a clear tension between Christian values and mainstream values (Siker,1989), the
Christian worldview will not be a popular, as Matthew 10:22 states you will be hated by all for my
name s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved (ESV). For this reason, as a Christian
my determination is to adhere to a strict adherence to a set of values, a code of conduct and moral
absolutes that the Bible underscores, even in the midst pervasive moral

Political Turncoatism
Introduction To be a party to an organization is to be identified to that organization and renunciation of
the other party. However, in the Philippine case politicians freely and gracefully shift from one party
to another, the other changed his mind and do the same. Party switching had been a common scenario
in the Philippine politics. Its occurrence is usually at election times or at times when there is a need to
resolve a certain conflict involving a political issue or question and during times of revolutions and
People Power. True enough the party system of the country seems to resemble chameleons of
politicians going from one party to another.
On several occasions when there is a need of choosing a stand, no contemporary party in the ... Show

I kept on thinking about something that is obviously a problem but of which its manifestations is not
usually bothered and studied of and for that no actual reforms are passed to alter the problem.
I decided to think of the wrongs and liabilities of the political dynamics in the Philippines. I just can t
get over the rampant party switching of different politicians for their own convenience and in my
perspective, how the people just take that for granted and has it considered as a common Filipino
political culture. And then, I get to ask what kind of PARTY system do we have?
So that was it, I m going to study the root of POLITICAL TURNCOATISM, all about these political
butterflies and the Party System of the country that seems to be arbitrariness of its existence.
At first, since I wasn t able to appreciate public administration and that I wasn t able to take legislative
course, it was hard for me to actually articulate from that point on and start doing things. But after
reading piles of documents, books, articles and etc, watching and reading news, continuous
researching and several informal discussions with classmates, elderly and some people with authority
to the subject matter, what I have to do with my research becomes clearer and more interesting.
I can actually say mine s a good topic. It is very much political and indeed has social relevance. It
concerns the society as a whole and

  • 2. Summa Contra Gentiles By Thomas Aquinas In his book, Summa Contra Gentiles, Thomas Aquinas initiates his consideration of divine nature as he explores and reflects upon some of the most challenging questions surrounding Catholicism. Specifically, he focuses on the essence and the existence of God as to provide insight into the natural ends of human life. Therefore, his consideration and analysis of central Catholic beliefs allows Catholics to better understand their position as members of a larger structure of human existence. This paper will analyze the simplicity and existence of divine nature, through an examination of human wisdom and divine assistance. He speaks to the human desire for happiness, which he defines as the fullness of being. However, he asserts that we cannot achieve this alone. We require God s grace. This idea is supported by the text when Aquinas states: For the means must be proportionate to the end: if then man is ordained to an end transcending his natural capacities, he must be furnished with some supernatural assistance from heaven, enabling him to tend to that end. (SCG 3.148) Here, Aquinas suggests that grace perfects nature without distorting it. Accordingly, man was created to be dependent on his creator and what he provides. This is significant as it implies that man is not able to derive his own holiness from his will, as in accordance with Pelagian belief. Therefore, much of God s goodness originates from His willingness to help man get what he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. False Perception Paper False Perception There are times when correlation between variables appears to present an obvious causal relationship, however, it is irresponsible for both researchers and the news media to produce predictions without looking for alternate factors. A good example is decades of reporting on the relationship between single mother households (independent variable) and rising crime rates (dependent variable). The preceding example was explored by Philip Cohen (2012) in his article on the single mom and murder rate relationship during the 1990s, in which he noted, I think single mothers especially those who were raising kids back in the 1990s deserve an apology from the conventional wisdom purveyors of that time (para. 2). The published reports in the 1990s cited the cause of rising crime rates as the rising amount of black households with single mothers that were unable to control their children, instill values, etc. (Cohen, 2012). The poem reads, Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples born of you shall be divided; the one shall be stronger than the other, the elder shall serve the younger (Gen. 25:23). God has foretold that the two brothers will have numerous descendants that are able to form two nations, but he doesn t explain why they will be in conflict. • 10. Alopecia Areata Research Paper Alopecia areata (AA) is an autoimmune disease that causes temporary or permanent hair loss. The body attacks its own hair follicles, which ultimately causes them to stop growing. Typically, it is found in small patches on the scalp but it can be diagnosed anywhere on the body. According to Petukhova et al. (2011) this disease physically impacts 5.3 billion people just in the United States, affecting about 1 2% of the population. There is no known cure of AA and there is little evidence suggesting it is stress related. Geneticists have been able to use genome wide association studies (GWAS) to recognize genes that have affiliation with the onset of alopecia areata. Alkhalifah et al. (2010) observed monozygotic twins because they are likely to have similar criterions and patterns of hair follicle deterioration. They also observed that AA might be inherited due to patients having a family history of this autoimmune disease. Human leukocyte antigens genes (HLA) are affiliated in alopecia areata along with several HLA class I and II alleles (Alkhalifah et al. 2010). The HLA class II antigen is a main contributor to the development of AA. This gene is a big expresser on the hair follicles and it is expressed on immune cells, giving antigen peptides to a specific T cell, CD4+. These findings suggest that CD4+ cells do indeed ... • 15. A Report On Vigna Unguiculata Introduction Vigna unguiculata is a common subtropic secondary crop utilized for sustenance amongst populations. Also referred to as the cowpea, this commodity holds great value in tropical Third World nations such as Nigeria since it serves as an inexpensive resource which provides protein and energy (Dauost, 1986). Therefore, it is essential that this crop remains prevalent in today s agricultural world. Unfortunately, Vigna unguiculata faces a large amount of predation from multiple species, one of which is the bean beetle Callosobruchus maculatus. This pest, along with others, leads to crop failure and a complete loss in the resource for potentially an entire agricultural season. Callosobruchus maculatus, a plant feeding insect, compromises the integrity of Vigna unguiculata populations by using either this plant or other dry bean species as a location to reproduce and lay eggs (Tuda, 2006). Numerous methods to combat this agricultural problem have been tested and observed. One study suggested artificially selecting certain Vigna unguiculata with key enzymes to hinder the growth of Callosobruchus maculatus eggs within the beans (Filho, 1991). This modern tragedy is the story of these young boys lives, and is the premise of how Aristotle s poetics came to be. Aristotle came up with these ideas through natural philosophy which is defined by observing the world around us, and through this process was able to come up with the six key parts of tragedy as follows: (1) Mythos, (2) Character, (3) thought, (4) diction, (5) melody, and (6) spectacle. And in his analysis, he also made several points to support his opinion, which are as follows: (1) In his analysis he explained how to code a military occupation as a success or a failure It s basically measured by looking at the long term balance of interests gained by the occupying power and the cost they paid out. Q4: How does Edelstein narrow down his research question to specific empirical questions? A: In this article Edelstein first focused on the basics of occupations, dividing them into different kinds, and gave metrics for success and failure of military occupations. After that he explained the reason of success in military occupations and showed the dilemma that failing occupying power would face, and then gave a conclusion to his theory, after all that, he narrow down his research by using his conclusions and theory to discuss the implications of the argument for the current occupation of Iraq and future potential ... Effects Of Geopolymer Adsorbents reorganization determine the microstructure and pore distribution of the material, which are critical in determining many physical properties (Duxson et al., 2005; Duxson et al., 2007). Therefore during the course of alkali mediated reaction, Al (IV) and Si (IV) are converted to tetrahedral sites with an associated alkali cation to maintain electro neutrality (Davidovits, 1991). • 27. The Pros And Cons Of The Federal Prison System In the United States of America there are currently two prison systems in place; the Federal prison system, and the State prison system. Every state in the U.S. has its own Department of Corrections, which is tasked with handling crimes committed at the state level (Allen, 2017). The state where the crime occurred has jurisdiction over the individual that committed the crime. An individual, whom has committed a crime within a state s jurisdiction that results in a long sentence, is sent to the state prison system in that particular state (Allen, 2017). A long sentence encompasses a period of time which exceeds a year, and a day; which is the length of time given to an individual convicted of a felony crime. An individual convicted of a misdemeanor crime which is accompanied by a sentencing length of less than a year, will serve their respective sentence in a jail. Once the individual has received their sentence, they will go through an initial classification process (Allen, Latessa, and Ponder, 2013). The purpose of the initial classification process is to identify the individual s custody level, work assignment, and treatment. • 29. Prescriptive Effects Of Ideology And The Weapons Of Mass... A leader cannot call something a genocide and then walk off the public stage without doing anything to help because terminology does not just have descriptive qualities but prescriptive qualities as well. The term Weapons of Mass destruction is limited to a select few innately powerful weapons, whose deployment is controlled by a single or small group of people and that when deployed can kill a monumental number of humans. This definition is very precise for a reason, these weapons must be dealt with differently because responsibility for mass casualty when using a WMD lies with the leaders instead of the masses. Leaders are solely responsible for the decision to take a large number of human lives. The term Weapons of Mass destruction should not be expanded to include ideologies and more primitive weapons, for unlike those already apart of the definition, ideologies and primitive weapons are only so destructive when chosen to be used by the masses. By expanding the term one is expanding an expectation that WMDs should be evaluated on the macro level. This is harmful to it would conflate the importance of smaller scale choices, thereby misrepresenting history and hindering the world s ability to learn from such mistakes. Ideology is the excuse and primitive weapons the tool by which the masses create destruction they are not weapons of mass destruction themselves but part of systems that create similar effects. Utopian Boston of the year 2000 is designed in a constructive method that excludes capitalism. Through the medium of romantic novel, Bellamy seeks to impose the idea of socialism into the nineteenth century American society. Written at a period when economic growth went off the rails triggering the rise in unequal distribution of wealth, Looking Backward attempts to propose a reform in social and economic systems. From the eyes of the narrator, the novel presents a spectrum of changes and possibilities for the 19th century audience. Plagued by the social chaos of the Gilded Age, Julian West falls asleep with difficulty in 1887 to wake up to the Boston of year 2000, and finds out that all the evils bothering him in the 19th century have been cast aside. As the last sparkles of the Civil War cooled down, a period of transformation took over U.S. and the endeavour to restore post Civil War economy initiated. Immunoblotting, also known as western blotting, is a type of an assay that is specifically used for the detection and characterization of proteins1. According to Gallagher and Chakavarti, immunoblotting works by exploiting the specificity inherent in antigen antibody recognition5. It involves the solubilization and electrophoretic separation of proteins, glycoproteins, or lipopolysaccharides by gel electrophoresis, followed by quantitative transfer and irreversible binding to nitrocellulose, PVDF, or nylon5. The immunoblotting technique has been useful in identifying specific antigens recognized by polyclonal or monoclonal antibodies and is highly sensitive5. This unit provides protocols for protein separation, blotting proteins onto membranes, immunoprobing, and visualization5. Another technique used was an Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay or ELISA. The underground railroad was not underground, or a railroad, it was named this because the activities that happened had to take place in the dark or in disguise. Routes were lines, stopping places were stations, and the ones who aided on the way were conductors. The underground operations relied heavily on secret codes to tell passengers when it was safe to travel and when it wasn t safe to travel. The most active members who helped the railroad were people of the freed slave community such as Harriet Tubman. The different lines of the routes extended in several directions throughout 14 northern states and the Promised Land of canada. Typically, enslaved African Americans who left plantations and cities in Delaware, District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, and Virginia were more likely to take refuge in the northern states, Canada and Western Territories. Those who lived in the deep south often found freedom by escaping into Mexico and the Caribbean. The Underground railroad was a system which existed in the Northern states before the civil War that helped slaves escape. Slaves from the south were helped by sympathetic Northerners. The ultimate goal of the underground railroad was to get slaves to a place of safety and freedom states in the north and in canada. He is claimed by his wife, Myrtle, to be a dirty little coward, which is most likely one of the reasons she leaves him in the dust behind her (137). This statement establishes the fact that Wilson has a weakness of living almost in fear. However, this fear backfires when Wilson finds a beautiful, silver dog collar. After finding it, he jumps to the conclusion that it was a gift to his wife from a lover. • 41. Global Realization Eric Schlosser s book Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All American Meal explores the effects of the spread of multinational fast food corporations into other countries, and the resulting loss of national culture. In his chapter Global Realization Eric Schlosser claims that The global expansion of American fast food is homogenizing cultural identities; like Las Vegas, it offers a brief sense of hope... that most brilliant illusion of all, a loss that feels like winning (Schlosser). Schlosser intentionally chooses the order and content of the information and examples he provides in order to promote his main claim. He uses both subtle and direct strategies to persuade his reader. Gumbel paints the picture of Mc Donalds restaurants around the world innovating and inventing products unique to their geography, exposing food culture from one country to the rest of the world. These days new ideas can and frequently do come from anywhere. ...plenty of other things that originated thousands of miles away from Oak Brook, Ill., where the company is based, have either already done so or are about to (Gumbel). This emphasis puts Gumbel away from Schlosser, but not against; part of Schlosser s argument is the danger of the amount of power fast food companies have gained. Gumbel attributes the success of many of the household name companies to a decentralized model, where individual storefronts have a level of autonomy. This practice has been key in the rapid expansion and popularity of these American grown companies. Here, Schlosser s claim is supported by Gumbel s endorsement of the business model, the rapid expansion of industry has led to an Americanization of cultures around the world. China s Big Mac Attack , by James Watson goes in depth into the effect of American fast food on local culture in China, a place very obviously changed by the introduction of the Big Mac. Supporters include the Hawaii State Center for Nursing, Hawai i Medical Association (HMSA), and the Coalition for a Drug Free Hawai i (CDFH). The Drug Policy Action group and the State of Hawaii Department of Health support this bill since it will increase access to medication. However, both have reservations regarding the administrative impacts this bill will have on marijuana dispensary operations. The Department of Transportation (DOT) also support this bill. However, the DOT recommends they be included in the commission along with law enforcement due to the potential increase in marijuana impaired driving that may occur after passing this bill. Those that oppose this bill include the Coalition for a Drug Free Hawai i (CDFH) and the Department of Public Safety s Narcotic s Division (PSD). Due to the PSD s duty to enforce the Federal Controlled Substances Act, which includes marijuana, they believe they should not be involved in the oversight commission. CDFH opposes the bill due to the lack of research conducted on medical marijuana, which could potentially result in a waste of resources. This bill is stalled and has not been scheduled for another hearing. The final bill is HB 1176, relating to the sale of e liquids. Photography In Paul Strand s Essay Photography The New God Photography and film are becoming more popular every day with people trying to one up each other and also trying to figure out new and inventive ways to use the camera. In Paul Strand s essay Photography the New God, he wanted to make his point that photography was assessable to anyone and everyone and that man does all the work not the machine. In Extracts from the Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction, Walter Benjamin explains that works of art have always been easily reproduced for profit and how film will be the most powerful instrument when it comes to new forms of art. At one time to reproduce a work of art it was only to be used to practice the artist s craft. With reproduction popular right now the original aura is lost but trough ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sometimes now it is a rarity to even find an original art piece because of the massive need for reproductions. Turning pictures into film was another way to evoke a different aura that will stick around instead of getting reproduced and lost in translation. In Manhatta (1920), filmed by Paul Strand and Charles Sheeler shows the everyday life in Manhattan. Watching the film over and over again gives the aura of growth, moving forward, and by using the New God it shows that we are advancing in technology. Using the camera or New God that Paul Strand refers to in his writing s Photography of the New God, he documents Manhattan in a way no one has ever seen. Paul strand believed that the New God was to show knowledge when used as well as showing what the future has in store for us, by filming Manhatta instead of taking just a picture he showing us the advancement to the future. The film shows the immigrants that were transported to Ellis Island, the everyday working man building up this great city, and at the end the hustle and bustle of the city people in the streets. • 44. Stereotypes In Lap Dance In mainstream media and film, strippers are given a very narrow representation when they re even included in a storyline at all: The women and men who make up the sex industry tend to be painted with a broad brush, being portrayed as morally corrupt. It s implied that they either joined the industry because of their negative traits, or that those traits were developed during their time working in it. This harmful stereotype is pretty consistently perpetuated, and done so through both male and female characters. The film being used here to provide a few examples of this stereotype is Lap Dance (Greg Carter), a 2014 film about a woman who begins working as an exotic dancer to supplement her income. When the main character Monica is first introduced in the film, she learns her father has cancer. Soon after, the doctor informs Monica and her fiancé Kevin that insurance is no longer covering his hospital stay. He them that the payment required for hospice care totals to fifteen thousand dollars, which neither of them have. Monica is disheartened and takes up a job working at a nail salon, where she runs into an old friend of hers who works as a dancer. The friend, whose name is Tasha, tries to convince Monica to come dance with her at her club. At first, Monica insists she can t do it. However, after the reality of the current money dilemma sets in, she decides she has nothing to lose. When Monica begins dancing, she s still very innocent and naïve. Within the first few ... • 45. Chick-Fil-A Christian Worldview One s ethical belief system of what is right or wrong, is based on the lens in which one views life, or the worldview that one subscribes to. These beliefs can be adopted from a host of circumstances, consciously from a thoughtful introspective place, it can be shaped by one s familial upbringing, a spiritual experience with God, or from an unreflective place derived unconsciously from one s value system based on external resources. When shaping a conscious worldview in which our ethical belief system is a derivative, the framework of ontology, epistemology and axiology gives us the ability to ask who are we, what is truth, and how did we arrive at our values (Porter, 2013). As a Christian, this author elects to support the ethical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On July 16, 2012, Dan Cathy the President and COO of Chick Fil A stated that his organization believes in biblical meaning of marriage, and that they are not a Christian business, but runs the business based on Christian principles. These comments were offensive to many Gay right groups, which started a media campaign, boycotts and caused major advertisers to withdraw support from the restaurant chain. Major politicians joined in denying Chick Fil A permits to open new restaurants in their cities. However, to counter the negative press former governor, Mike Huckabee galvanized support for the restaurant chain by orchestrating an appreciation day on August 1, 2012 in which this campaign yielded record sales for the organization (Peters, Benjumea, Garner, Turner, 2013). Even though there is a clear tension between Christian values and mainstream values (Siker,1989), the Christian worldview will not be a popular, as Matthew 10:22 states you will be hated by all for my name s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved (ESV). For this reason, as a Christian my determination is to adhere to a strict adherence to a set of values, a code of conduct and moral absolutes that the Bible underscores, even in the midst pervasive moral ... However, in the Philippine case politicians freely and gracefully shift from one party to another, the other changed his mind and do the same. Party switching had been a common scenario in the Philippine politics. Its occurrence is usually at election times or at times when there is a need to resolve a certain conflict involving a political issue or question and during times of revolutions and People Power. I just can t get over the rampant party switching of different politicians for their own convenience and in my perspective, how the people just take that for granted and has it considered as a common Filipino political culture.
