Solar Energy
.
Fossil Fuels
Fossil Fuels are called Non- Renewable Sources of Energy because they will
run out one day.
They are also one of the major contributors to environmental pollution.
Examples are: natural gas, coal and oil.
The diagram shows Heat Energy from the Sun to light the fire. Notice the
smoke?
.
Non Renewable Energy
Some Fossil Fuels are:
.
Renewable Energy
Other forms of energy are referred to as ALTERNATIVE FORMS OF
ENERGY because they will never run out.
They cause little or almost no pollution. These forms of energy are
referred to as Renewable sources of energy.
.
.
Solar Power
Solar power is energy from the sun. this is energy that is harnessed to
generate electricity.
This is done in two (2) ways: Solar Cell
Solar Panels
.
.
Solar Cells
Solar cells are devices that change light energy directly into electricy
energy.
Here are some items that has solar cells that powers things to work.
.
Solar Panels
Solar panels do not generate electricy directly. Instead, they heat up
water directly
Solar panels can be placed on:
 homes
 boats
 planes
.
.
Solar Energy
There are many uses of Solar Energy, such as:
 Cooking
 Drying Clothes
 Heating homes
.
.
Solar Energy
Some benefits of solar energy as an alternative to fossil fuel are:
 It is free.
 Readily available because of our climate.
 Environmentally friendly and clean
