The Era Of The Colonial Era
1. The Colonial Era
In this era people were self dependent on growing their own food as well as making clothes for
themselves. In today s times we rely on retail shopping for our clothes and food. There are separate
markets for each providing room for progress in society.
As far as the business side goes in this era, most businesses were small and relied on local profit alone.
In society today, while small businesses do still exist more often than not most corporations are
relying on profit across the globe. This way more profit and jobs can be made.
The Industrial Era
The factory system was just being developed in this era. This was the beginning of a major way in
which businesses would grow. Still today we use techniques for this time bust we have improved on
the efficiency of how products are made. Also putting laws in place for no child labor which was a
great improvement.
Specialty or larger stores began to compete with the general or smaller stores that were prominent in
the previous era. Trade became less important, and with this the market economy was born. We have
improved this system with finding a good balance in big corporations and smaller businesses. This
allows the system to function much easier and there is much more room for success from several
companies, not just a few.
The age of Titans
Some called this the second industrial revolution. This was an age of many people building business
empires. To this day many businesses

Muslims In Media
Portrayal of Muslims in the Media
Ambarta Noor
San Diego State University
Portrayal of Muslims in the Media Negative portrayals of Muslims in the mainstream media have led
to widespread islamophobia in society. The way the media have illustrated Islam and Muslims in the
media has influenced citizens to be misinformed about the true nature of both Muslims and Islam. As
a result of the negative representations of Muslims in the media, societies views of Muslims have been
adversely rendered and caused an unnecessary fear of Muslims in society. Exacerbation of
islamophobia in the media has also led to a number of hate crimes towards Muslims (McQueeney,
2014). Instead of focusing on real news, medias often narrate stories

Music And Its Effect On People Essay
There have always been significant uses of music in particular background situations to create desired
effects on people. Retail stores use music to increase spending, employers use specific types of music
to ease their employees, and doctors use soothing music to help relax their tense patients. Teachers
come across numerous challenges within their classrooms when it comes to the distractions that
students encounter. It may be behavior which is distracting, such as doing something not class related,
or it may be behavior that is interruptive and intentionally disruptive. Not all students can come to
school with a fresh start that allows them to be ready and willing to learn. Still, society expects
educators to teach all students and for all students to learn in the same ways. Studies have shown that
music can be an efficient tool for resolving some of these barricades of the learning process. When
music is suitably used as a background enhancer, the student s ability to concentrate within the
classroom setting increases.
As the classroom setting has advanced and progressed over time, teachers now have an opportunity to
enrich learning further than before. There are various approaches a teacher can positively use to affect
the productivity, behavior, and motivation of students. One of the specific strategies now commonly
used to boost student learning is the use of background music. Background music is not actively or
purposely listened to, but intended to be heard.

African Americans And African American History
As African Americans we need to know the history of our ancestors in order to make the next
generation better. African Americans need to know the struggles and hardships that our ancestors had
to go through that pave the way for my generation and the generations after me. It is important to
know how our ancestors had to endure slavery. If the older generation does not continue to pay
homage to the history of our ancestors, the younger generation will lose sight of what our ancestors
have been through (Roberts, 2011). The younger generation is not interested in African American
History. It is about what someone can do for them. The younger generation wants everything handed
to them not to work for it because the younger generation thinks the world owe them something. The
younger generation does not have respect for their elders now. As African Americans we should not
forget the segregation and the hanging and deaths of African Americans because of the color of their
skin. It is also important because racism still exist today (Roberts, 2011). There are still racist white
people that do not want the world to change (Roberts, 2011). There are some white people that want to
go back to slavery because white people think African Americans are not worthy (Roberts, 2011).
White people do not want African Americans to know about their history because there were
intelligent African Americans that were inventors. Some examples of African American inventors are:

Tasers Can Stop The Heart And Kill Essay
Outlaw Tasers
Some may say tasers are good and that they are lifesaving, but the shock that comes from the taser can
be extremely painful and life threatening. If the taser does not take a life, it can ultimately impact and
alter the taser victim s life. Furthermore, like most products the taser is not always one hundred
percent effective or reliable. Due to how dangerous the taser is, with intention or not, and the many
outcomes by its use, they should be banned.
Though it is suggested the taser would be a safer solution to apprehend an attacking person rather than
firing a gun at them instead, there is a defect that prevents it from doing so. For the TASER device to
be effective, both electrode barbs must hit the target for the device to ... Show more content on

This, ...disadvantage is that ...[there is] only...one shot [he or she] ha[s] to wind up and re pack the

firing, the probes have to be at a vertical position aiming at a standing target. If the electrode barbs
were to fail to apprehend the target, the one using the taser would be put at risk since they would have
to put the taser back together properly and make sure the probe cartridge is place accurately for
another chance to fire. It may seem easy to put the taser back properly, but there are precautions one
would have to take to be safe from harm to themselves.
To avoid being tased, there are safety measures one should take such as when loading and unloading
the taser s cartridges. One must hold the taser on the device s either side or top. These precautions
while: LOADING:
1. Verify that the safety switch is in the down (SAFE) position.
2. Point the device in a safe direction.
3. Place the cartridge into the front of the weapon until an audible click is heard.
UNLOADING:
1. Verify that the safety switch is in the down (SAFE) position.
2. Point the device in a safe direction.
3. Depress the tabs on the sides of the cartridge and remove. (38)
If the holder of the taser forgets to put the taser into the safe position, the taser might accidently
discharge. Since the taser is a sensitive device, it should be handled

There are many interesting potential uses of GIS in Natural Resource management. One area of
interest at my current Project Office is prescribed burns. Prescribed Burns are an important and vital
part of managing natural resources and keeping the park areas and adjacent private lands safe from
wildfire. It can be challenging to complete the prescribed burns during the short open window
available each year. We work hard to complete burns in the off season, when acceptable and safe
weather conditions are present and consideration is given to protecting neighboring property.
Consequentially, working with the neighbors not only involves safety issues but also maintaining good

Satire
Satire is a sort of glass, wherein beholders do generally discover everybody s face but their own
(Swift). Such beholders, as Jonathan Swift astutely emphasizes, are intended, through guidance of
satiric narrative, to recognize social or political plights. In some satires, as in Swift s own A Modest
Proposal, the use of absurd, blatant exaggeration is intended to capture an indolent audience s
attention regarding the social state of the poor. Yet even in such a direct satire, there exists another
layer of meaning. In regards to A Modest Proposal, the interchange between the voice of the proposer
and Swift s voice introduces another medium of criticism, as well as the opportunity for readers to
reflect on how well they may fit the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
O Brien, whom Winston had come to trust throughout the whole novel, is tasked with making Winston
believe that whatever the party holds to be truth is the truth (249). Despite Winton s attempts to resist,
he is made hollow through pain, suffering, and, above all, betraying the only person he has come to
love by pawning his worst fear of rats to Julia with the betraying remark: I don t care what you do to
her (286). Throughout the whole novel the audience follows Winston develop, with the aid of the
lively, rebellious Julia, into a more active revolutionary. His position within the tyrannical party allows
him to take note of the hypocrisy of the party and over time the audience comes to sympathize with
his motives. Though he seeks a better, free life by joining the rebellion , his fatalism is his defining
characteristic. By the end of the novel, he is emotionless towards his once lover Julia. They never
meet again (293). Winston in his end state is a hollow man, one that has come to [love] Big Brother
(298). What the progression of Winston s character, from someone who would vehemently write down
with Big Brother to a brainwashed party loyalist, illuminates is the futility of resistance in a
totalitarian government (18). Winston s end state emphasizes the whole purpose of the novel: to warn
of the all encompassing power of totalitarian government. Winston is made an example of

Food Safety And Food Security
Food Safety
Food is any substance consumed to provide nutritional support for the body. It is usually of plant or
animal origin, and contains essential nutrients, such as fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals. The
substance is ingested and passed by organism s cells to provide energy, maintain life, or stimulate
growth. Historically, people secured food through two methods: hunting and gathering and agriculture.
Today, the majority of the food energy required by the ever increasing population of the world is
supplied by the food industry. Food safety and food security are monitored by agencies like the

Fungi are used in the preparation of fermented and pickled foods like alcoholic drinks, cheese, pickles,
and yogurt. Food products produced by animals include milk produced by mammary glands, which in
many cultures is drunk or processed into dairy products . In addition, birds and other animals lay eggs,
which are often eaten, and bees produce honey, a reduced nectar from flowers, which is a popular
sweetener in many cultures. Some cultures and people do not consume meat or animal food products
for cultural, dietary, health, ethical, or ideological reasons. Vegetarians choose to forgo food from
animal sources to varying degrees. Vegans do not consume any foods that are or contain ingredients
from an animal source. Production Most food has always been obtained through agriculture. With
increasing concern over both the methods and products of modern industrial agriculture, there has
been a growing trend toward sustainable agricultural practices. In popular culture, the mass production
of food, specifically meats such as chicken and beef, has come under fire from various documentaries,
most recently Food, Inc, documenting the mass slaughter and poor treatment of animals, often for
easier revenues from large corporations. Several organisations have begun calling for a new kind of
agriculture in which agroecosystems provide food but also support vital ecosystem services so that

Blockbuster History Films Essay
History films have often been criticised by academics and journalists as inaccurate depictions of the
past. Yet there is no denying the fact that blockbuster history films are increasingly influential in
shaping our understanding of historical people and events thanks to the accessibility of the medium.
Producers of these films often take liberties with facts to tell a more dramatic, engaging and
entertaining story. They have a basis in truth but are greatly influenced by the writers and directors
desire to envelop the audience in the story and to entertain. They focus the visual and auditory senses
of the viewer on the subject being studied creating a stimulating and forceful impact on the viewer,
therefore engaging their interest. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Historically, Martin is loosely tied to the Continental Army Officer Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox ,
along with four other historical figures. Francis Marion was notoriously known for his use of guerrilla
tactics against British troops in South Carolina, something which is presented historically accurate in
the film. The Patriot has inspired a new resurgence in research into the American Revolution; raising
the public awareness of what has become an almost mythical war, and creates an opportunity for
teachers and students to gain a deeper understanding of the era. In some aspects, director Roland
Emmerich historically replicated events accurately. The film also accurately portrays why the
American Revolution started within the opening sequence of the film; that being the revolt against
british taxation without any American representation. The American Revolution came about,
fundamentally, because by 1763 the English speaking communities on the far side of the Atlantic had
matured to an extent that their interests and goals were distinct from those of the ruling classes in the
mother country. However, despite the historical accuracies, the film depicts various inaccurate
characteristics such as some states offering freedom to African Americans serving in the war for a
period of three years. The film suggests that the War of Independence was a liberating experience for
African Americans and also that the field

Were The Patriots And Loyalists Justified
In the past, while learning about the American Revolution I had always thought of America as a united
front. The war between the Patriots and Loyalists could even be compared to the war between
America and Britain. The Patriots were not justified in abusing and expelling the Loyalists. In the
actions the Patriots took against the Loyalists, they violated their unalienable rights, these actions also
allowed for history to repeat itself through the civil war in 1861. The Patriots fought for an admirable
cause, as stated in the Declaration of Independence they believed in fighting for the unalienable rights:
that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (Ford.153). However, they took these
unalienable rights away from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1861, America entered a war within itself, the American Civil War. Both conflicts began in a similar
fashion. In both situations, a party felt like they were being muffled by the government. In response to
their feelings, both groups of rebels decided that they could survive on their own. This caused friction
within both parties and a disconnect between the government and those who thoroughly believed in its
practice and the governed and those who believed that there was more that could be done. While some
believed that it was best to see the government through, it is understandable to see where some might
find it more appealing to demand change. It is interesting to ponder an alternate end to the American
Revolution, while an accent might be nice, we would live in world where even the simplest necessities
would be heavily taxed and America would no longer be a safe haven for those seeking life, love and
the pursuit of happiness, like Thomas Paine stated in Common Sense This new world hath been the
asylum for the persecuted lovers of civil and religious liberty from every part of Europe (Paine.150).
Both groups of people during both periods of war wanted the best possible outcome for America,
unfortunately that was taken too far when Patriots started abusing Loyalists and expelling them from

Cultural Factors In The Sociocultural Environment
There are many things in life that influence our development in some shape or form. Whether in a
positive or negative way, influence is something that surrounds us, our children and family and may
determine the way we develop. We are all prone to influences in our environment. Although there are
many factors that influence us, one specific example are the sociocultural factors we are surrounded
by in our everyday lives. This paper will be discussing the strengths and weaknesses in the
sociocultural environment that influence both children and families.
Growing up in dangerous neighborhoods, having neglectful parents, or simply going through natural
disasters are a few negative ways sociocultural factors may influence the way children and families
develop. There are many people living in safe neighborhoods but there is also a decent amount of
families who are living in very dangerous areas. There are areas in this city where crime is rarely ever
seen, but there are also many areas where crime is seen on a daily basis and many families are going
through that and have to either see it or live through it. This impacts a child a whole lot because they
grow up hearing about people getting shot, people drug dealing, being addicted to alcohol and a
variety of negative lifestyles children and families should not have to live through. Sadly, sometimes
in between all this going on, children grow up having parents that may always be working or worse,
be criminals. The parents

The Rational Decision Making Model Essay
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The purpose of this report is to provide feedback on administrative and public policy violation issues
in the city of Crestview located in Okaloosa County, Florida. The report analyzes public policy
violations, City Council member adjudication, transparency, and leadership issues in the City of
Crestview. The report uses various research methods to gather data to help formulate the conclusion
and recommendations of the report.
The rational decision making model is utilized to make the best decision possible. The rational
decision making model is the best known prescriptive model; the model involves several sequential
steps: identifying the problem, determining the goals and objectives, identifying and evaluating
alternative policies, choosing from the alternatives, recommending actions, implementation, and
evaluation (Smith, 2014). The use of this model is justified as it provides structure and sequence to the
choices of the decision maker. The model helps ensure key indicators can be fully considered in a
logical manner.
It is recommended that the administration create new procedures and implement trainings or classes to
educate City Council members, employees and other city officials on new public policies as well as
the Sunshine Law. These trainings will outline laws, policies and ordinances as well as target times for
legislators to move any issue from the systemic agenda to the formal agenda; this policy should allow

Matewan Feudalism
Feudalism and Capitalism
Economic processes are those involving the production and distribution of goods and services.
However, they do not alone determine this production and distribution. There is an interrelationship of
economic, cultural, environmental, and political processes that all help to shape each other. Nothing
that we do can be defined as a single process, for it is the interaction itself that helps to produce the
final results that we observe. To understand this more fully the following basic definitions may be of
use: Cultural Processes are those that involve the creation and transfer of knowledge the production of
meaning. Political processes are those by which we establish and enforce rules, and they ... Show

Films are important and useful tools for the analytical process that needs to take place when searching
for the answers to the questions. Films are understood to be, among other things, the product of a
particular economic theory or set of theories (which can be contradictory), to teach particular theories
(including economic theories), and to provide an objective for analysis using economic theory.
(Professor Gabriel) It is with this in mind that the films of Matewan and Norma Rae are of importance
to us when analyzing the concepts of feudalism and capitalism, because they are films that contain in
them examples from these two types of economic systems. While the concept of unions is prevalent in
both films, the reasons for their existence and the results of their existence appear to be quite different,
but important all the same. Thus, the films can also be used to help increase our understanding of the
importance and the role of unions in society.
John Sayles, the writer and director of Matewan, produces for the audience a true depiction of the
West Virginian coal mining community of 1920. At a surface level viewing and examination of the
film, many might be tempted to view the environment that is created as capitalist. After all, the
workers do get paid for their services. However, upon a much deeper, more in depth inspection one
could argue that there is much evidence to

On the Roads optimism Essay example
In Jack Kerouac s novel On the Road, the narrator, Sal Paradise offers up to us what seems to be a
very optimistic view on life. He is forever singing the praises of how wonderful his adventures will be
and his high expectations for the future. To Sal, the novel is defined by youthful exuberance and
unabashed optimism for the new experiences that he sets out to find. A deeper look into the novel, as
well as a look at some of the critics who have written on it, reveals a much darker side, a more
pessimistic and sad aspect that Sal simply fails to realize until the very close of the action. Whether

The influence of Dean Moriarty on the novel, in terms of everything from plot to general tone to the
thoughts and dreams of Sal, is immeasurable. Most importantly though, he is the catalyst for much of
this blind optimism for in a sense, he personifies blind optimism. During the long introduction of
Dean in the first chapter, Sal shows the vast impression that Dean will have on the tone of the novel:
all my New York friends were in their negative, nightmare position of putting down society and giving
their bookish or psychoanalytical reasons, but Dean just raced in society, eager for bread and love; he
didn t care one way or the other (Kerouac, 7).
Dean s refusal to look at the world with a disapproving eye and always having hope for simple things
like food and sex exemplify his personification of optimism. This early passage of the novel shows
that Dean will and eventually does become the driving force in the optimism that marks much of the
book. Dean s lust for life guides himself and Sal to places such as jazz clubs, old friends houses, and
even Mexico. But with Dean as well as the cohorts that follow his madness, (Sal, Ed Dunkel, Carlo
Marx and many more) the result ends up being much less than ideal, despite the fact that they

Death Penalty In The 18th Century
When the first colonists came to the United States, they brought the British penal system with them.
Laws concerning the death penalty varied from colony to colony. In the Tenth Century A.D., hanging
became the main method of execution in Britain. Death sentences were carried out by crucifixion,
drowning, beating to death, burning alive, and impalement. The first death penalty laws go back as far
as the eighteenth century in Babylon. As for the United States, the first documented execution was in
the Jamestown colony of Virginia in 1608. Captain George Kendall was hanged for the capital offense
of treason. In 1632 Jane Champion became the first women to be executed.
The abolitionist movement had many European theorists such as Montesquieu, Voltaire and Bentham.
The first attempted changes of the death penalty in the U.S. happened when Thomas Jefferson
introduced a bill to revise Virginia s death penalty laws. The bill suggested that capital punishment
was to be used only for the crimes of murder and treason. In the early 1800 s, states started to reduce
the crimes punishable by capital punishment and started building jails and penitentiaries. Pennsylvania

A Study On The And Properties Of Aluminium Alloys
CHAPTER 3 LITERATURE REVIEW
3.1 Introduction
The Al Zn Mg series aluminium alloys (7xxx) are the heat treatable alloys and widely applied as large
structural components in navigation and transportation facilities, due to good combination of hardness,
high strength and fracture toughness [1 6]. The use of Sc (scandium) to achieve grain refinement has
recently received great attention. The microstructures and properties of aluminium alloys are strongly
affected by adding small quantities of scandium. Scandium additions in excess of 0.55wt.% (i.e.,
hypereutectic) are very effective in grain refinement, suggesting that the primary ScAl3 phase serves
as an effective grain nucleant [7 9].
The effect of a Sc addition will of course depend on the composition of the alloy. The additions of Sc
in aluminium alloy appear to reduce hot tearing and shrinkage porosity. Hot shortness increase with
increase in Zn but decrease with increase in Mg content [10, 11]. The process of precipitation in the Al
Zn Mg alloy system is quite complex. The aged structure and the kinetics of ageing depend on both
the Zn and Mg concentration and the temperatures of solution and ageing treatments. As the Sc
contents increases within the specified solubility in the solid solution, the grains virtually do not
disintegrate. The maximum solubility of scandium increases from 0.35 to 0.6 wt.% [12, 13]. When the
amount of scandium exceeds the eutectic content and, consequently, there appear primary particles of

Too Much Crying isn t a Good Thing
Crying is undoubtedly one of the most common humanistic features when it comes to the emotions of
the average person, due to the fact that every human being has shed tears for which ever reasons their
emotions led them to. However, crying can also be the result of many other issues and can indicate a
serious problem if done continuously and drastically to the point where it becomes a serious concern.
In adolescents, it is more normal to cry as the child may not understand or know what to do about a
situation, leaving them flustered, agitated, sad, angry, or any negative emotion causing them to cry.
With these things being said, when crying is understood to be the result of an underlying deep rooted
issue, the next step is to understand the enforcer that is keeping the behavior of crying continuous and
figure out exactly how to decrease it to the point of normality. Crying has also yet to be examined
systematically in isolation from other problem behavior, such as aggression or tantrums, during
functional analyses (Hanley, Iwata, McCord, 2003). Identification of variables that may maintain
crying is especially important for populations who are susceptible to psychiatric interventions (e.g.,
individuals who have intellectual disabilities and communication deficits). The current study extended
functional analysis methodology to crying with an adolescent boy who had been diagnosed with
intellectual disabilities. Results suggested that crying was maintained by caregiver

politics. Working men at first didn t join because they were poorly treated by the aristocrats who
controlled majority of the government, and the people felt as if there was no space for them to try in
politics unless they were friends with a person in power. Jackson got people to pay more attention in
politics due to his past of being a commoner who rose the ranks and also because of the many
emotional speeches that he gave which impacted, and persuaded many Americans to pay attention to

Americans were involved in politics. Even though the spoils system was undemocratic, Jackson used a

This aspect of the loss prevention duties is usually required by the store and the area fire marshal. In a

Romeo Passionate
Romeo Montague is characterized by his passion and his tendency to make rash decisions. Throughout
Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare provides examples of these two of Romeo s qualities, and, ultimately,
they are what define him as a tragic hero.
From the beginning of the play, it is evident that Romeo is a passionate person. In Act I, Romeo is in a
depressive state due to him falling in love with a woman named Rosaline. Romeo goes on a tirade
about how he is somber due to love and how love can destroy a person. He is feeling rejected due to
the fact that Rosaline does not love him back (1.1 L. 164 176). Romeo is infatuated with this woman.

Monopolies defied the principles of a free market by promoting income inequality and giving

and short sighted refusal to look beyond the moment s gain, then the offender, whether union or

Congress s attempt to fight back. However, the Sherman Act failed to define monopoly and the
Clayton Act was merely a civil statute which carried no criminal penalties.
In response to those weaknesses, the Federal Trade Commission was created and given authority to

Same Sex Marriage Should Be Legalized . The Same Sex Marriage
Same sex marriage should be legalized
The same sex marriage has been widely debated in many countries for a long time. It is
an important issue because it concerns basic moral and human rights. People all over the world
come to the United States in search of freedom and equality. Being able to marry anyone, no
matter the gender, is a freedom of right, but if that freedom of right is taken away from people
than there is no equality. Homosexual people in the United States are people that deserve
freedom and equality and taking away their right to marriage is taking away their equality with
the rest of Americans. Even though certain religions are against same sex marriage, same sex ... Show

Writing for the majority, Justice
Anthony Kennedy states that no union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the
highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. Kennedy goes on to say that gay
and lesbian couples ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them
that right. ( Nasci1). I think this amendment protects the rights of homosexuals. Same sex
marriage should be legal because all individuals have the same right in society; same sex couples
can constitute a good based family. It is just a way to make official a common union nowadays,
even there are religious issue; because it is not related to polygamy; and because love matters
and it does not differ in nature according to the sex of its object or the person who experiences it.
Prior to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling, same sex marriage is only legal in some states.
Some states do not agree with same sex marriage. Same sex marriage was legal in 36 states and
the District of Columbia. In 19 of those states. (Nascri). I think same sex marriage should be
legal. The state should not say anything about agreeing to an adult s way of life. If two people
love each other and want to get married, regardless of their partner s color, religion, nationality or
gender, they should be allowed to do so love and marriage should be purely a personal choice.

Revision of Master Narratives within Jane Eyre and Wide...
To be able to discuss adequately how the master narratives of Bronte and Rhys time are revised, one
must first understand what those master narratives were and what the social mood of the time was.
From there one will be able to discuss how they were revised, and if in fact they were revised at all.
Bronte is known as one of the first revolutionary and challenging authoress with her text Jane Eyre.
The society of her time was male dominated, women were marginally cast aside and treated as
trophies for their male counterparts. Their main role in life was to be a mother and a wife, Literature

Any sign of deviancy would be punished by the patriarchal system of that time, especially that of a
deviant girl. As the patriarch was entirely male, the oppression of the female gender was swift and
harsh.
At Lowood Jane ultimately has to conform to the rules and regulations of the male domination to exist
and live. Here she becomes a quiet...disciplined and subdued character. This time in Jane s life, brings
up questions and queries into whether Bronte does in fact revise master narratives, which I will look at
later on.
Throughout the course of the text this female character pulls herself up from no social standing to
somebody with a wealthy inheritance, eventually marrying the man she loves under her conditions,
without having to compromise her beliefs or herself. Jane s relationship with Rochester is a key
element of Bronte s revising the master narrative. She of course falls in love with Rochester whilst she
is a member of his staff, she has no independence of her own, whether that be financial or otherwise.
She ends up fleeing Thornfield, for despite her love of Rochester, she wants to be equal, and knows he
ultimately wants to master her. A sign of what a typical Victorian marriage was like, in which the
woman would submit to the man and obey his orders. Bronte dissects this notion, as Jane does

Decolonization can cause a great deal of tension between the colonizers and the colonized of a
country. This is especially true for the country of Guatemala, where Spanish colonizers settled on and
started to conquer Mayan or indigenous peoples land. During the late 1900 s, a civil war broke out
between the indigenous people and the government of Guatemala. The result of the civil war was a
genocide, killing and displacing thousands of innocent Mayan s; and destroying most of their land.
The government attempted to abolish the indigenous people because they feared that the Mayan s

Women in Military
Women in the United States have long fought for the right to be included in many facets of society
such as the right to vote to breaking into professions like the medical field and getting females elected
to major government offices. But one of the most intriguing questions of integration has yet to be fully
answered. Apart from all others is the battle to allow women the right, the honor, and the privilege of
serving and defending their country as part of the United States Armed Forces. Being in the military
means prestige, honor, pride, and the satisfaction that comes along with engaging what is considered
one of the most valiant and traditionally revered professions in our country. However, there has always

The Marines and what was to later become the Air Force also began to accept women applicants. In
1976, the three service academies all accepted their first class of women. While it was long debated
whether women could compete and excel in the kind of environment that service academies are
known for, at least the scholastic questions were answered when one of the female cadets at West
Point was recently named the valedictorian of her graduating class. On Tuesday, October 21, 1997, the
United States government dedicated a new memorial at the Arlington War Memorial in Arlington,
Virginia. Named the Women in Military Service for America Memorial , it was the first national
monument of its kind that recognized those who fought and died in the protection of their country.
Women have faced two fights when it came to the Armed Services, the first being the right and honor
of serving their country and secondly on the battlefield itself. While women are now capable of being
both enlisted personnel and officers in the military, a new question arises should the role of women in
the military finally be expanded to allow them to fight for their country in direct combat? Many

Culture Jamming And Parody Advertisement
Out of all the topics discussed this week, culture jamming is one that certainly piqued my interest.
Primarily, culture jamming is defined as a tactic used by social activists to change the public s point of
view and bring attention to the negative aspects of certain products. This communication tool achieves
its goal by making parodies of advertisements of popular brands, ranging from stores, fast food chains,
and even beverages. For example, a parody ad for Pepsi reads Corn Syrup, where the logo of Pepsi is
used as the letter o. Another example is of McDonald s, where the logo of McDonald s, M, is inverted
to a W, and reads I m gainin it. Both of these parodies reflect the product s unhealthy components.

An Investigation Of Understanding Energy Systems
Energy is required for all kinds of bodily processes including growth and development, repair, the
transport of various substances between cells and of course, muscle contraction. It is this last area that
Exercise Scientists are most interested in when they talk about energy systems.
Whether it s during a 26 mile marathon run or one explosive movement like a tennis serve, skeletal
muscle is powered by one and only one compound... adenosine triphosphate (ATP) (2). However, the
body stores only a small quantity of this energy currency within the cells and its enough to power just
a few seconds of all out exercise (5). So the body must replace or resynthesize ATP on an ongoing
basis. Understanding how it does this is the key to understanding energy systems.
An ATP molecule consists of adenosine and three (tri) inorganic phosphate groups. When a molecule
of ATP is combined with water (a process called hydrolysis), the last phosphate group splits away and
releases energy. The molecule of adenosine triphosphate now becomes adenosine diphosphate or ADP
(2).
Energy is measured in calories To replenish the limited stores of ATP, chemical reactions add a
phosphate group back to ADP to create ATP. This process is called phosphorylation. If this occurs in
the presence of oxygen it is labelled aerobic metabolism or oxidative phosphorylation. If it occurs
without oxygen it is labelled anaerobic metabolism (2).
Energy Sources to Replenish ATP

Hyperkalaemia And Depolariization Of Potassium
Potassium is a necessary intracellular ion, found in each cell membrane, playing a vital role in the
normal functioning of nerve and muscle cells. It is crucial for proper fluid balance in the body by
countering the effect of sodium and creates an electrical charge across the cell membrane. This is
important as it allows nerves to conduct electrical impulses to communicate between muscles and
cells to contract. A majority is found inside muscle tissue, and the balance between sodium and
potassium ions is crucial to maintain an electrical gradient which works to transport substances in/out
the cell and transmit nerve signals which consequently trigger muscle contractions.
When this balance is disrupted, the functioning of muscles is drastically affected.
An excess amount of potassium can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Typically, the kidneys can maintain blood potassium within a health range, excreting extra when
necessary. But when one cannot efficiently eliminate excess potassium, hyperkalemia occurs.
Hyperkalaemia can result in depolarization of membrane potentials of nerve and muscle cells, due to
the increased equilibrium potential of potassium. This impairs the normal process of depolarization;
the depolarization of the membrane potentials opens several voltage gated sodium channels; however
it elevates the inactivation process. Depolarization is slowed due to the concentration changes, which
means an action potential is not generated; the process of accommodation occurs instead. This is when
nerve cells adjusts slowly to a slowly increasing stimulus so that its threshold of excitation of greater

Evidently, in the 1990s the relationship between HPV and cervical neoplasia was confirmed.54
According to Bosch et al., the 1990s produced the key results of case control and cohort studies, and
witnessed an increasing number of results on the clinical uses of HPV DNA testing in screening and

that those with multiple HPV infections have a higher risk of developing cancer of the cervix.53
With the changing dimension of research studies having confirmed that HPV was a necessary cause of

anogenital pathologies, categorizing different histological forms of cervical cancer in relation to HPV
strains and highlighting other risk factors that may play a prominent role or catalyze the carcinogesis

Clockwork Orange Punishment
Nietzsche s Good and Evil Taken to the Extreme in the Chaotic Society of A Clockwork Orange.
When it comes to a prime example of questioning morality in Kubrick s films A Clockwork Orange is
a go to case study of free will and the morality of judgement and punishment. The film is an analysis
of humanity and explores topics such as aversion therapy which is not just a dystopian fantasy but
exists in the real world. It analyses punishment and examines the justice system both with portraying
the classic punishment method like the prison and the rehabilitation method.
Gehkre states that:
The clockwork metaphor has long been a tradition of western sciences, both physical and social.
Dreams of predicting and controlling human behaviour have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

With the help of Alex s perspective, the film also criticises the choices society makes. Going back to
Nietzsche s views on morality, it is worth noting that he condemns the Judeo Christian morality as too
strict and unhealthy. However, using that philosophy A Clockwork Orange again shows the opposite
as the society and law system s ethics are very much radical and they believe that the only way they
could eradicate the crime and chaos in society is to take people s right of choice. In their criminology
analysis of A Clockwork Orange Lichtenberg, Lune and McManimon (2004) sum up the main issue
concerned in the film with the statemen confirmed by the prison chaplain that: If there is no choice,
there is no morality. Therefore, Kubrick s film focuses on some important questions and problems that
are shown as issues of a dystopian society but are also truly problems present in contemporary society
as well such as: could the spectator blame the establishment for being cruel and immoral if they are
trying their hardest to eradicate relentless crime or is taking someone s free will and right to choose an
inhuman thing to do overall? The title of the film ties in with Alex s journey and character
development as he is transformed and programmed as a machine not able to

Breakfast of Champions as Social Commentary Essay
Matthew Choma
English 101
Prof. J. Douglas

Breakfast of Champions: Science Fiction as Social Commentary
Vonnegut s symbolic and satirical representation of humans as robots in his novel: Breakfast of
Champions is representative of the authors interpretation of world events and conflicting nature of
human beings. The renowned author often hits on significant and worrisome themes such as
destruction of the planet and overpopulation. His unique and unparallel style includes outrageous and
often unrealistic chain of event that are obviously symbolic and relevant to the story as well as the
author s attitude on a particular subject matter. For instance in describing when Kilgore Trout writes
his stories, he does not save them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are introduced into the story as outsiders almost, as if we did not belong to the planet, as if we
were not human. This kind of insight creates a whole different kind of attitude on the events that are
happening within. Science fiction, theoretically attempts to do just that. To make the ordinary seem
strange, in order to provide critique to a specific subject matter in order to let the reader rethink his or
her own attitude on the matter at hand. Certainly this is that case here as well. Having this third party
perspective allows for us to rethink our entire attitudes on relevant social and secular issues
dominating at the time. For instance such a moment that sticks out is the description of women s
underwear. And the madness about wide open beavers was extended to underpants when Dwayne and
Trout and I were boys. Girls concealed their underpants at all costs, and boys tried to see their
underpants at all coasts (Vonnegut, 27). Below the paragraph is a picture of the very underpants he
spoke of that portrays, literary, a critique of how insignificant and unworthy the massive social
outbursts on debates were on nude or nearly nude depictions of women in popular magazines when
compared to other issues that plagued the world.
One passage sticks out in particular when it comes to issues that Vonnegut considers relevant: The
Creator of the Universe would like to apologize not only for the capricious,

  • 2. The Era Of The Colonial Era 1. The Colonial Era In this era people were self dependent on growing their own food as well as making clothes for themselves. In today s times we rely on retail shopping for our clothes and food. There are separate markets for each providing room for progress in society. As far as the business side goes in this era, most businesses were small and relied on local profit alone. In society today, while small businesses do still exist more often than not most corporations are relying on profit across the globe. This way more profit and jobs can be made. The Industrial Era The factory system was just being developed in this era. This was the beginning of a major way in which businesses would grow. Still today we use techniques for this time bust we have improved on the efficiency of how products are made. Also putting laws in place for no child labor which was a great improvement. Specialty or larger stores began to compete with the general or smaller stores that were prominent in the previous era. Trade became less important, and with this the market economy was born. We have improved this system with finding a good balance in big corporations and smaller businesses. This allows the system to function much easier and there is much more room for success from several companies, not just a few. The age of Titans Some called this the second industrial revolution. This was an age of many people building business empires. To this day many businesses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Muslims In Media Portrayal of Muslims in the Media Ambarta Noor San Diego State University Portrayal of Muslims in the Media Negative portrayals of Muslims in the mainstream media have led to widespread islamophobia in society. The way the media have illustrated Islam and Muslims in the media has influenced citizens to be misinformed about the true nature of both Muslims and Islam. As a result of the negative representations of Muslims in the media, societies views of Muslims have been adversely rendered and caused an unnecessary fear of Muslims in society. Exacerbation of islamophobia in the media has also led to a number of hate crimes towards Muslims (McQueeney, 2014). Instead of focusing on real news, medias often narrate stories ... • 4. Music And Its Effect On People Essay There have always been significant uses of music in particular background situations to create desired effects on people. Retail stores use music to increase spending, employers use specific types of music to ease their employees, and doctors use soothing music to help relax their tense patients. Teachers come across numerous challenges within their classrooms when it comes to the distractions that students encounter. It may be behavior which is distracting, such as doing something not class related, or it may be behavior that is interruptive and intentionally disruptive. Not all students can come to school with a fresh start that allows them to be ready and willing to learn. Still, society expects educators to teach all students and for all students to learn in the same ways. Studies have shown that music can be an efficient tool for resolving some of these barricades of the learning process. When music is suitably used as a background enhancer, the student s ability to concentrate within the classroom setting increases. As the classroom setting has advanced and progressed over time, teachers now have an opportunity to enrich learning further than before. • 5. African Americans And African American History As African Americans we need to know the history of our ancestors in order to make the next generation better. African Americans need to know the struggles and hardships that our ancestors had to go through that pave the way for my generation and the generations after me. It is important to know how our ancestors had to endure slavery. If the older generation does not continue to pay homage to the history of our ancestors, the younger generation will lose sight of what our ancestors have been through (Roberts, 2011). The younger generation is not interested in African American History. It is about what someone can do for them. The younger generation wants everything handed to them not to work for it because the younger generation thinks the world owe them something. The younger generation does not have respect for their elders now. As African Americans we should not forget the segregation and the hanging and deaths of African Americans because of the color of their skin. It is also important because racism still exist today (Roberts, 2011). There are still racist white people that do not want the world to change (Roberts, 2011). There are some white people that want to go back to slavery because white people think African Americans are not worthy (Roberts, 2011). Tasers Can Stop The Heart And Kill Essay Outlaw Tasers Some may say tasers are good and that they are lifesaving, but the shock that comes from the taser can be extremely painful and life threatening. If the taser does not take a life, it can ultimately impact and alter the taser victim s life. Furthermore, like most products the taser is not always one hundred percent effective or reliable. Due to how dangerous the taser is, with intention or not, and the many outcomes by its use, they should be banned. Both conflicts began in a similar fashion. In both situations, a party felt like they were being muffled by the government. This caused friction within both parties and a disconnect between the government and those who thoroughly believed in its practice and the governed and those who believed that there was more that could be done. There are areas in this city where crime is rarely ever seen, but there are also many areas where crime is seen on a daily basis and many families are going through that and have to either see it or live through it. This impacts a child a whole lot because they grow up hearing about people getting shot, people drug dealing, being addicted to alcohol and a variety of negative lifestyles children and families should not have to live through. The report analyzes public policy violations, City Council member adjudication, transparency, and leadership issues in the City of Crestview. The report uses various research methods to gather data to help formulate the conclusion and recommendations of the report. The rational decision making model is utilized to make the best decision possible. The rational decision making model is the best known prescriptive model; the model involves several sequential steps: identifying the problem, determining the goals and objectives, identifying and evaluating alternative policies, choosing from the alternatives, recommending actions, implementation, and evaluation (Smith, 2014). The use of this model is justified as it provides structure and sequence to the choices of the decision maker. The model helps ensure key indicators can be fully considered in a logical manner. It is recommended that the administration create new procedures and implement trainings or classes to educate City Council members, employees and other city officials on new public policies as well as the Sunshine Law. A Study On The And Properties Of Aluminium Alloys CHAPTER 3 LITERATURE REVIEW 3.1 Introduction The Al Zn Mg series aluminium alloys (7xxx) are the heat treatable alloys and widely applied as large structural components in navigation and transportation facilities, due to good combination of hardness, high strength and fracture toughness [1 6]. The use of Sc (scandium) to achieve grain refinement has recently received great attention. The microstructures and properties of aluminium alloys are strongly affected by adding small quantities of scandium. Scandium additions in excess of 0.55wt.% (i.e., hypereutectic) are very effective in grain refinement, suggesting that the primary ScAl3 phase serves as an effective grain nucleant [7 9]. The effect of a Sc addition will of course depend on the composition of the alloy. The additions of Sc in aluminium alloy appear to reduce hot tearing and shrinkage porosity. Hot shortness increase with increase in Zn but decrease with increase in Mg content [10, 11]. The process of precipitation in the Al Zn Mg alloy system is quite complex. The aged structure and the kinetics of ageing depend on both the Zn and Mg concentration and the temperatures of solution and ageing treatments. As the Sc contents increases within the specified solubility in the solid solution, the grains virtually do not disintegrate. The maximum solubility of scandium increases from 0.35 to 0.6 wt.% [12, 13]. When the amount of scandium exceeds the eutectic content and, consequently, there appear primary particles of ... However, crying can also be the result of many other issues and can indicate a serious problem if done continuously and drastically to the point where it becomes a serious concern. In adolescents, it is more normal to cry as the child may not understand or know what to do about a situation, leaving them flustered, agitated, sad, angry, or any negative emotion causing them to cry. With these things being said, when crying is understood to be the result of an underlying deep rooted issue, the next step is to understand the enforcer that is keeping the behavior of crying continuous and figure out exactly how to decrease it to the point of normality. Crying has also yet to be examined systematically in isolation from other problem behavior, such as aggression or tantrums, during functional analyses (Hanley, Iwata, McCord, 2003). Identification of variables that may maintain crying is especially important for populations who are susceptible to psychiatric interventions (e.g., individuals who have intellectual disabilities and communication deficits). It is an important issue because it concerns basic moral and human rights. People all over the world come to the United States in search of freedom and equality. Being able to marry anyone, no matter the gender, is a freedom of right, but if that freedom of right is taken away from people than there is no equality. Homosexual people in the United States are people that deserve freedom and equality and taking away their right to marriage is taking away their equality with the rest of Americans. Kennedy goes on to say that gay and lesbian couples ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right. ( Nasci1). I think this amendment protects the rights of homosexuals. Same sex marriage should be legal because all individuals have the same right in society; same sex couples can constitute a good based family. It is just a way to make official a common union nowadays, even there are religious issue; because it is not related to polygamy; and because love matters and it does not differ in nature according to the sex of its object or the person who experiences it. Prior to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling, same sex marriage is only legal in some states. Some states do not agree with same sex marriage. To be able to discuss adequately how the master narratives of Bronte and Rhys time are revised, one must first understand what those master narratives were and what the social mood of the time was. Throughout the course of the text this female character pulls herself up from no social standing to somebody with a wealthy inheritance, eventually marrying the man she loves under her conditions, without having to compromise her beliefs or herself. Jane s relationship with Rochester is a key element of Bronte s revising the master narrative. She of course falls in love with Rochester whilst she is a member of his staff, she has no independence of her own, whether that be financial or otherwise. She ends up fleeing Thornfield, for despite her love of Rochester, she wants to be equal, and knows he ultimately wants to master her. An Investigation Of Understanding Energy Systems Energy is required for all kinds of bodily processes including growth and development, repair, the transport of various substances between cells and of course, muscle contraction. It is this last area that Exercise Scientists are most interested in when they talk about energy systems. Whether it s during a 26 mile marathon run or one explosive movement like a tennis serve, skeletal muscle is powered by one and only one compound... adenosine triphosphate (ATP) (2). However, the body stores only a small quantity of this energy currency within the cells and its enough to power just a few seconds of all out exercise (5). So the body must replace or resynthesize ATP on an ongoing basis. Understanding how it does this is the key to understanding energy systems. An ATP molecule consists of adenosine and three (tri) inorganic phosphate groups. When a molecule of ATP is combined with water (a process called hydrolysis), the last phosphate group splits away and releases energy. The molecule of adenosine triphosphate now becomes adenosine diphosphate or ADP (2). Energy is measured in calories To replenish the limited stores of ATP, chemical reactions add a phosphate group back to ADP to create ATP. This process is called phosphorylation. If this occurs in the presence of oxygen it is labelled aerobic metabolism or oxidative phosphorylation. If it occurs without oxygen it is labelled anaerobic metabolism (2). Hyperkalaemia And Depolariization Of Potassium Potassium is a necessary intracellular ion, found in each cell membrane, playing a vital role in the normal functioning of nerve and muscle cells. It is crucial for proper fluid balance in the body by countering the effect of sodium and creates an electrical charge across the cell membrane. This is important as it allows nerves to conduct electrical impulses to communicate between muscles and cells to contract. A majority is found inside muscle tissue, and the balance between sodium and potassium ions is crucial to maintain an electrical gradient which works to transport substances in/out the cell and transmit nerve signals which consequently trigger muscle contractions. This impairs the normal process of depolarization; the depolarization of the membrane potentials opens several voltage gated sodium channels; however it elevates the inactivation process.
