Benjamin Franklin Influence
Perhaps, one of the most quotable men in the United States history is Benjamin Franklin. He was a
visionary who coined multitudes of aphorisms such as, Have you something to do tomorrow? Do it
today and Industry gives comfort and plenty and respect. However, his talent was not only limited to
his ability to make memorable phrases, he was also a pioneer in inventions from the stove to bifocals
to the lighting rod. He is a man who has become known as one of the founding fathers of the United
States and who, to this day, graces our hundred dollar bills. Ironically enough, this man who has
become engraved as an American national treasure was not always a ferment nationalist, and even felt
a sense of loyalty toward the mother country of England. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He believed that uniting the colonies and England would lead to a stronger nation. Franklin was sure
that having the crown, as a mother country, was not an ailment but rather a powerful helping hand for
the colonies. In fact, as he and the colonies grew in independence and self sufficiency, Franklin and
other leaders drew up a proposal to ensure their voice in legislation without being free of the power of
the English. He states, By this plan the general government was to be administered by a president
general, appointed and supported by the crown, a grand council was to be chosen by the representative
assemblies (Franklin 102). However, the English rejected the idea and deemed it too democratic and
although the proposal was not approved, Franklin still held some levels of patriotism towards Britain.
Keeping in mind the high regard he held England it is no wonder he was more so inclined around the
time of the Seven Years War to fight alongside the British. He was quick to come up with plans on
defense and was efficient in acquiring what was needed in terms of money and defense. He worked
closed with Generals and Governors, and was an instrumental part of the war. Franklin was sure to
solidify his place as an American who was highly regarded by the English and in a sense might have
been due to his pursue of

Shakespeare s Use of the Idea of Disguise in As You Like It
Shakespeare uses the idea of disguise in many of his plays. It is used as an escape from the characters
personalities and sometimes for comic effect. In As You Like it, the disguise becomes very comical as
in the time it was written only men could act on stage. This could lead to much confusion and comedy
in the roles of those in disguise. Disguise can give the freedom to a character to act how they like and
a chance for them to show their views. It was in the 16th Century that there became an increased sense
of self consciousness and identity. This led to people creating an image for themselves. If one can
create a self, they can create many different versions of themselves each showing a different aspect of
that person. This links in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As she is disguised as Ganymede, this is possible. She would not have been able to do this as a
woman. When she is disguised as a man, more people listen to Ganymede. Although it is the same
person, she can have much more say about her views and opinions when she is disguised as
Ganymede. However, simply because her personality is not accepted as a woman, it does not mean
that she is not presenting it. By showing that she enjoys watching the wrestling, she is revealing her
true personality. She does not have to be disguised as a boy to do this. The disguise may show other
aspects of the character s personality but it is still shown through their everyday person.
Another point to make on this matter would be that the character of Rosalind would have been played
by a male and the audience would know this. This could mean that the reason Shakespeare included
Rosalind s enjoyment of manly sports was because Rosalind is actually a man in the attire of a
woman. There is a large confusion of the gender of Rosalind throughout the play. By confusing the
gender, Shakespeare is focusing more on the personality of Rosalind than her appearance. The
question of gender is continued at the very end of the play. In many of his plays, Shakespeare ends
with an epilogue read by a male character. In As You Like it, the epilogue is performed by Rosalind.
The epilogue seems to be outside the play as if the actor was talking but Rosalind is still in character.
She says herself; It is

Effects of Insulin on IGF-1 Receptors
Pref 1 has been linked to IGF 1 and ERK MAPK pathways where prevention of ERK phosphorylation
by the MAPK/ERK kinase (MEK) inhibitor PD98059 enhances adipocytes differentiation (Wang,
2010). Insulin also binds to IGF 1 receptors with low affinity (Smith, 1988) and stimulates the
formation of an active Ras GTP complex and ERK MAPK pathway (Porras, 1996) and the PI3K
pathway. Both these pathways appear to be required for adipogenesis (Sale, 1995; Sakaue, 1998; Tang,
2005). The Ras GTP complex activates RAF kinase which is phosphorylated to induce MAPK. The
phosphorylated MAPK interacts with Elk1. Phohosphorylation of Ekl1 facilitates binding to the
mediator complex via the Med23 subunit (Stevens, 2002; Wang, 2005). The mediator complex is a
multi protein complex which bridges gene specific transcription factors and transcriptional machinery.
The Mediator Med23 (Sur2) subunit was originally identified as a genetic suppressor of a hyperactive
Ras phenotype in C.elegans (Singh, 1995). Elk1 is a member of the ternary complex factor family and
an important regulator of adipogenesis. The Elk1/Med23 interaction controls the expression of Krox20
in a MAPK dependent manner by promoting a productive preinitiation complex which leads to
transcription (Wang, 2009). Krox20 is expressed in adipose tissue (Soukas, 2001) and is the first
transcriptional factor expressed during adipogenesis after insulin stimulation (Chen, 2005; Gonzalez,
2005). Krox20 expression has been reported to regulate

Criminal Justice Field Observation Report
At the majors fair I visited a total of three different major tables. Those majors were Criminal Justice,
Anthropology and Simulation and Game Design. The first major that I visited was the Criminal
Justice table because I am taking intro to Criminal Justice and wanted more information about the
major. At the table was Ms. Kusko the department chair and also my professor for my Criminal Justice
Class. At the table I learned that students interested in the Criminal Justice field have to take the intro
class and also a few psychology classes such as the intro class and the Psych and Law class.
Additionally, I learned that there are very interesting jobs for graduates in the Criminal Justice major

At the table there was a student in the Anthropology program and on her table she had things that
related to anthropology. For example, she had skulls and stuff animals such as lemur because
Anthropology looks at the study of human and animal development. I also learned that anthropology
has seveal subfields with in the major. For instance, you can go study sociocultural anthropology,
biological anthropology, linguistic anthropology and much more. Furthermore, occupations in
Anthropology are growing fast. According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics,
Employment of anthropologists and archaeologists is expected to grow 19 percent from 2012 to 2022,
faster than the average for all occupations. Those with anthropology majors can work in a variety
places. They can work for universities, museums, private companies and even with the government.
Anthropology is offered as a minor or a concentration here at William Peace and those are interested
in the major are required to take Cultural Anthropology, Biological Anthropology and an additional 12
elective course hours with courses focused on the major. If you re interested in learning how humans

Banning Violent Video Games On Children
Banning Violent Video Games A child is killing police officers. A teenager is hiring prostitutes to
potentially kill them. He is using weapons such as guns, chainsaws, and knives to kill and commit
horrible crimes. Thousands of children and teens participate in these actions daily. How? Violent
Video games such as Doom, Call of Duty, and Grand Theft Auto are just a few of the games that are
full of these awful actions. The Harvard Mental Health Letter states, The Pew Research Center
reported in 2008 that 97% of youths ages 12 to 17 played some type of video game, and that two
thirds of them played action and adventure games that tend to contain violent content (Violent...Young
People 1). Another investigation showed that over half of the games the ESRB rates contain violence,
and over 90% of those games are evaluated acceptable for people over the age of 10 (Violent...Young
People 1). These violent video games contribute to aggressive behavior, bullying, and recently
spotlighted school shootings. Many believe these games should be banned for children and teens.
Critics say that these games give adolescents a way to vent out their anger and frustrations in a safe
environment and that there is research to prove violent video games have no effect on normal children.
Because they are harmful, video games that promote violence should be banned in regards to children
and youth. The first and most important reason video games should be banned for children is the

Cultural Awareness Of Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia, located in the middle east, takes up most of the Arabian Peninsula. This deeply rooted
country, in comparison to Western culture, is different in many ways. Culture is defined as a
civilization s way of life, their beliefs, morals, laws, and customs. Similarly to how American citizens
follow the rules and regulations laid out in the constitution, the Saudi Arabian citizens use the Koran
as their constitution. The people of Saudi Arabia culturally identify as Muslim and Arab, which links
them to millions of people beyond their borders. Originating from a hot desert climate, these people ...

Mecca is the holiest place in the Islamic world, just like Vatican City is the holiest place for
Christians. The people in this city watch television, use cell phones and use the internet regularly just
like everyone else. As these people lived in Saudi Arabia s harsh climate, they have adapted and
thrived, creating thousands of years of rich history.
The people of Islam have customs and courtesies that differ from western culture, and some ways they
are similar. The rules of Islam govern every part of a Saudi Arabian citizens life, whether it s political,
personal, or business matters. Absolutely no business occurs on Friday, which is a Muslim holy day,
and most businesses close on Thursday, making the weekend Thursday and Friday. Greetings are
similar to western culture, but if someone were to do the wrong thing they can find themselves in quite
a bit of trouble. For example; when greeting men, they will shake hands, and if they are close friends
or family, they will also add a kiss to the cheek. It is highly frowned upon for men and women to greet
in public. Even in situations of business practices, women aren t allowed to extend a hand to be
shaken. Islamic dietary laws forbid the consumption of pork and alcoholic beverages and are enforced
throughout Saudi Arabia. The punishment for drinking, trading, producing, and smuggling is severe.
Those caught supplying alcohol to Saudis will receive the harshest punishments. Foreigners

Why Google Is Unjust
How strong are you addicted to Google? Google is not at fault for people constantly being on the
internet. People use technology so often and it s been blamed onto one site like Google. In reality, how
often is that user on the internet. Also, many other sites are just as used as Google is. Does that make
those websites also unjust? The word unjust is defined as lacking in justice or fairness, which, in
reference to the proposed question suggests that Google is being held to a legal or moral standard. In
reality Google simply provides a means to gather and research information and does not set the rules.
It is at the discretion of the users how the acquired information will be interpreted and used.
It is in hands of the user on how to use Google. We have all heard that with great power comes great
responsibility. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One just has to type in their desired information into the search bar. Next, the user scrolls through the
results until one sparks the searcher s interest. After clicking on the link, the user weeds through the
site to see if this information can be beneficial to their desired goal. Once finding the information that
was sought after, the user can then implement that information in whatever fashion they desire. This
information can be used for an educational assignment or just for simple knowledge. The most crucial
step in this whole process is going through the plethora of information that Google puts in front of
you. Some of this information may be truthful, and others can be viewed as false information. The
user must keep a cautious approach to avoid sources that may have this false information. A user can
avoid this problem by using credible sources and creating a more comprehensive search. Once this
information is in the hands of the user, it is out of the hands of Google and therefore no longer their

Germany Genocide In Rwanda
In 1884, Germany took rule over the Rwandan region, becoming responsible for the establishment of
the government. In discovering two indigenous populations, the Germans delegated power to the more
Caucasian group, the Tutsi. Despite an absence of previous conflict between the Tutsi and Hutu, the
other group of the region, the sudden power of the Tutsi established societal divides and cultivated
angst, resulting in an eventual horrific genocide and the death of over 800 thousand people.
Historical Context Beginning in 1885 when Germany put the Tutsi population in government
positions, a division appeared in the population of Rwanda between the Hutu and Tutsi. When
Belgium took over rule of Rwanda in 1926, they believed it would be easier to keep the Tutsi in
power, widening the gap between these two people. Later, in 1935, Belgium instituted identity cards to
show whether one was Tutsi, Hutu, or Twa/Batwa (Twa are another group living in Rwanda who were
also persecuted during the Rwandan Genocide). The ID cards escalated tensions between groups as
Europeans observably favored the Tutsi, prohibiting Hutu from the same ... Show more content on

With this leadership, Rwanda proceeded to participate in two wars with the Congo, one in 1996 1997

backed by Rwanda, against the government of Zaire. Following the rebel victory, the new Congo

Benefits And Benefits Of Employee Retention
Employee Retention: Employees subject to an employer restructuring process may become stressed or
distrustful of their employer, its management and their coworkers. Restructuring may cause sudden
departures of coworkers and management. Human Resources Management is responsible for
convincing remaining employees to stay with the organization. Employee retention efforts may
include bonuses, employee training, internal promotion opportunities and improving workplace
policies and procedures. Although restructuring resulting from falling profits are unlikely to provide
salary increases, such restructuring may provide employees with incentives such as additional time
off, flexible work schedules or on site amenities. Human Resources Management is accountable for
researching, recommending and implementing employee retention strategies during restructuring.
Compensation Benefits: Human Resources Management is responsible for designing a well planned
compensation system during restructuring that would benefit the employee and the organization. An
effective compensation benefit package consist of base compensation which is fixed pay received on a
weekly or monthly regular basis; an incentive pay is for job performance; benefit or indirect
compensation which include health benefits , vacation, and privileges. Outplacement Services:

Lab Report 9 Bleach Oxidation Essays
Bleach Oxidation of 9 Hydroxyfluorene
The purpose of this experiment was to oxidize an alcohol (9 hydroxyfluorene) to a ketone (9
fluorenone) using aqueous sodium hypochlorite (bleach) as the oxidizing agent, while introducing
techniques used in microscale experiments.
Reaction:
Results
1. Recrystallized Product Yield
Product yield = (actual yield/theoretical yield) x 100%
3mL 9 hydroxyfluorene x (1mL/1000mL) x (0.09 mol/L) = 2.7 x 10 4 moles
0.05g 9 fluorenone / (180.20g/mol) = 2.77 x 10 4 moles
Product yield: (0.000277 mol/0.00027 mol) x 100 = 102.5% yield
*Note: A recording mistake was made in the lab notebook, where the final product was supposed to be
0.05g (calculations above) and not 0.55g (calculations below).
0.55g ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The range determined in the experiment is approximately 2 degrees above the actual melting point
range, indicating some impurities in the final compound. According to the IR spectrum, the product
obtained is quite pure. The peaks in the table above indicate the presence of a carbonyl, specifically
the C=O bond of a cyclic ketone and also the sp2 hybridized =C H bond of an alkene. There is no
broad peak ranging from 3200 cm 1 3600 cm 1, which would indicate the presence of the OH group of
an alcohol. Thus, there is likely no presence of starting material in the final product. The percent yield
above 100% indicates that some liquid (hexanes) used to recrystallize the product was likely still in
the flask when the product was weighed.
2. Price of Reagents
Jones Oxidation: 0.00027 moles of 9 hydroxyfluorene requires:
(.00027 mol)(1.1) / (2M) = .1485 L of 2M CrO3 in H2SO4. That would be 14.85mL. Therefore,
($88.70)(14.85/25) = $52.69
PCC Oxidation: .00027 moles of PCC would weigh: (.00027mol)(1.1)(215.56g/mol) = 0.064g. This
costs ($25.20)(.064/25)= $0.06
Swern Oxidation: (0.00027 mol)(1.1)(78.13 g/mol) / (1.1 g/mL) = 0.02 mL of DMSO. ($28.70)
(.02/100) = $0.01
(.00027 mol)(3)(101.2 g/mol)/(.725 g/mL) = 0.11 mL of Et3N
($24.50)(.11/100) = $0.27
(.00027 mol)(1.1)(126.93 g/mol) = 0.038g of Oxalyl chloride
($51.90)(.038/25) = $0.08
Total cost: 0.01+0.27+0.08 = $0.36
Bleach Oxidation: (.00027

Ask Your Mam 12 Moods For Jazz
Langston Hughes s book, Ask Your Mama: 12 Moods for Jazz, presents several jazz pieces that
express the suffering African Americans have had to face over many years. The vernacular tradition in
these works, is expressed through the jazz music that plays in the background while the poems recited
(Pasadena City College). The jazz music gives the poems a feeling of Blues, but also tends to have a
more upbeat feeling during certain points of the poems. In Ask Your Mama: 12 Moods for Jazz, all of
the twelve pieces have a connection to each other in various ways. The connections involve the degree
of suffering, money, or success. In Ode to Dinah and Horn of Plenty, Hughes exhibits all three of these
connections, both in similarities and differences.
Suffering is a concept that can be seen through every one of the works in Ask Your Mama: 12 Moods
for Jazz. In Ode to Dinah, the suffering component can be seen when Hughes states Even when you re
winning/There s no way not to lose (Hughes 493). For an African American, being able to reach a goal
and provide for your family is very difficult, especially if you are living in poverty. Poverty is the
primary problem in Ode to Dinah. The imagery in the video shows many pictures of African
Americans who are doing jobs that involve a large amount of physical labor (Pasadena City College).
This signifies how much harder African Americans work in comparison to whites. The African
Americans in the video do not look happy, and look as

Princess Diana Influences
Princess Diana was known as the people s princess who stunned the world with her ability to conquer
any hurdles life threw at her. She also was known for showing the people that she cared. Her sudden
death left the world in shock, and many people say her touching story changed their life. Princess
Diana is an influential person because of her ability to overcome hardship, her unconventional royal
duties, her widely recognized charitable work, and the impact of her death.
Throughout the years of Princess Diana s life she showed her capability to overcome hardship, and
work through her pain to become someone the world would never forget. Her life began on July 1,
1961, in her quiet hometown of Sandringham, England. Diana learned at an early age how to deal with
her rough family life. Her struggles began when her parents divorced when she was a small child,
further lessening her relationship with her parents. Her and her four other siblings helped each other
through that tough time.
Prince Charles first became interested in Princess Diana when she was 16, this is where their love
interest began. At the time he was dating her older sister, Lady Sarah. A few years later she and Prince
Charles begin talking. After becoming friends, and eventually lovers Prince Charles and Diana

Importance Of Building Community In Schools
Organizations tend to face many unique challenges. One of these challenges, especially in schools, is
building a sense of community. Thomas J. Sergiovanni s Building Community in Schools, first
published in 1994, asserts that in order for schools to improve in any and all aspects of the school
environment, the school should first place an emphasis on community building. Sergiovanni was a
professor of education at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas where he taught in the school
leadership program and in the teacher education program. He worked in the education field from the
time of his graduation from the State University of New York in 1958 until his retirement in 2009.
During that time, he authored more than 30 textbooks and journal articles.
Throughout Building Community in Schools, Sergiovanni repeatedly refers to two Russian terms:
gemeinschaft (community) and gesellschaft (society). He uses these terms in order to better describe
the community building process within schools. The main theme of this book is that every person
within a school plays an important role in how effective the school can become by building on the
basic premise that a team can accomplish much more than an individual. The author touches on how
we are losing a sense of community and why this is not in the best interest of our children. He also
expounds on the importance of community building, not only in schools, but why it is essential to our
development as human beings. This book is a must read for any educator as it gives great insight into
the importance of community in education.
The book starts with a preface in which Sergiovanni builds the framework for the importance of
community in schools. Sergiovanni states that when a school has a sense of community it lifts both
teachers and students to higher levels of understanding, commitment, and performance beyond the
reaches of the shortcomings and difficulties they face in their everyday lives. Once again, this is the
basic premise for the entire book: that more can be accomplished by a team than an individual.
The beginning of the book focuses on how community loss has come about, how it is affecting our
schools, and why it is important to rebuild community.

The Kosta Bros Case Analysis
Question 1 The Kosta Bros Seafood has experienced a series of changes to become one of the most
influential seafood companies in Australia and Southeast Asia. It started with George s effort as a sole
trader when he emigrated from Greece to seek for huge opportunity. In 1950s, his two brothers came
to assist him. They decided to borrow loans from bank while their personal assets were used as
securities. Thus, the partnership was formed as a result of expansion. They agreed to be individually
liable for business s entire debt. In 1980s, Perth was experiencing the mineral boom and the economy
grew tremendously. The Kosta Bros could be able to expand more rapidly as the city was invested
heavily. Thus, it became a company, which was defined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ten years later, the business becomes a countrywide company and there are currently 70 shareholders.
Thus, an unlisted public company was achieved at this stage . The Board of Directors would like to
change the entity structure from the ambition of penetrating into new markets and raising more funds.
They decided to write down possible issues to be listed on the Australian Securities Exchange.
Question 2 In 1997, the Kosta Bros could be identified as a large proprietary company. Under CA
2001 s45A (1)*, a proprietary company could be defined when there are less than 51 non employee
shareholders. By 1990, there were 30 shareholders existing in the company. Also, it did not raise funds
from the public since most of the capital was obtained from the interest bearing debt provided by
major banks. Thus, the company was a proprietary company. When we are evaluating the size of a
company using CA 2001 s45A (2)*, Kosta Bros employed 85 EFT staffs, which were greater than 50*;
the gross assets obtained were $19m, which were greater than $12.5m; the gross operating revenue
was $20m, which was less than $25. When two of three thresholds are achieved, the proprietary
company is regarded as large*. In 2013, the company becomes an unlisted public company because it
has 70 shareholders, which are greater than 51. Due to the ambition of the Board of Directors, the
company would like to seek for new strategies and expand its market. It intends to be listed

Abraham Lincoln Essay
Abraham Lincoln Abraham Lincoln was the 16Th President of America. He was the first republican
that was elected as President. He ran for senate two times and lost both. When he was in office he was
mostly occupied with the states that broke away from the Union, who was named the Confederate
States of America. The first to break away was South Carolina followed by 6 other states before the
inauguration of Abraham Lincoln. And then four more at the beginning of the Civil War,Battle of Fort
Sumter. Lincoln was inaugurated into office in March of 1861. Lincoln was one of the reasons the pro
slavery states broke away, they where afraid that Lincoln was going to ban slavery because Lincoln

Lincoln had made the Emancipation Proclamation, which banned slavery to the CSA(Confederate
States of America)that didn t come back to the Union by Jan 1, 1863. It also named the states it
applied to. But it didn t name the boarder states of Kentucky, Missouri, Maryland and Delaware
because those states did not actually declare secession so they didn t free any slaves in those states at
the time. They also didn t name Tennessee because it was mostly back to the Union by then. Most
slaves where not let go immediately but the Act freed thousands of slaves.
Lincoln thought people would think that the Emancipation Proclamation would be only temporary due
to the war and be soon forgotten. So what Abraham did is he made the 13Th Amendment. The 13Th
Amendment stated that slavery was illegal to all states, and also that it is illegal to make people work
against their will to benefit themselves, which is called involuntary servitude.
The C.S.A collapsed when generals Robert E.Lee and Joesph E. Johnston surrendered their armies
over to the Union. Later the Union soldiers captured Jefferson Davis(The Confederate President) on
May of 1865. At almost the end of the war Lincoln had a very reasonable view on what the nation

Compare And Contrast The Body Vs Stand By Stephen King

The Body vs. Stand by Me
Did you know that Stand by Me a academy award winning film directed by Rob Steiner was based of
a novel called The Body by Stephen King ? In fact in both the novel and film the plot is the same but
there are some small changes. The plot is about four twelve year olds who embark into a journey to
discover the body of Ray Brower. During their journey each boy learns something extraordinary about
themselves and about there friends. The main conflict in the novel is that there is another group of
older boys who are also searching for the body. The novel was released in 1982 and the film was
released in 1986. Even though the film was amazing there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the novel the setting of the story takes place in a small town named Castle Rock that is located in
Maine in the year 1960 and in the film the setting is Castle Rock, Oregon in 1959. This difference
would be considered a minor change because it is only one year apart from the original date in the
novel and the change of the state does not really matter. Adding to differences is that in the novel in
chapter seven there is a story that is told by Gordie called Stud City in the film it is not shown or
mentioned. This would be considered a major change because the story shows how smart and mature
Gordie is for a twelve year old and it is important for the build up of the character but it is excluded
from the film. Another difference is that in the novel when the boys find the body and they confront
the other boys Chris pulls the gun out to make them leave. In the film it is Gordie who takes out the
gun to make them leave. This is a major change because in the novel it helped make the ending make
more sense and helped Chris buildup as a character. In addition to differences in the novel when the
boys are on there journey they go into the pond to swim because they want to. In the film they go into
the pond because they have to in order to get across. This isn t considered a major change because it
doesn t affect the plot in any way. Something the filmmakers did well

Renzo Piano is a well known architect, best known for his phantasmagoric architectural masterpiece,
the Shard in London that constitutes a major landmark in α big city like London. Designed in 2000, it
is the tallest building in the United Kingdom, while being for a while Europe s tallest tower. It lost its
title to the Mercury City Tower in Moscow in 2012 which is Europe s tallest building.
As Renzo Piano said I don t believe it is possible to build a tall building in London by extruding the
same shape from bottom to top. It would be too small at the bottom and too big at the top. Likewise,
symbols are dangerous. Often tall buildings are aggressive and arrogant symbols of power and ego,

supporter of the skyscraper, which had been administered planning permission at the end of March
2002. Nevertheless, the works for the Shard almost ceased because of the fall of the Twin World Trade
Towers, in New York. According to Mr. Sellar the Shard will have refuges built into its core .
Furthermore, when plans for the Shard of Glass were first considered, environmentalists labeled the
Shard as a spike through the heart of the heritage of London.
Oppositions arose after the plans for the Shard passed through the Council and conservation groups
expressed their concerns about the changing skyline of London and that the skyscraper would shadow
over the Cathedral of St. Paul, the Tower of London. Renzo Piano stated that St. Paul Cathedral is an
extraordinary monument and an intrinsic part of London s heritage. I believe that the new tower will
not disturb its stateliness. They are breathing the same air, sharing the same atmosphere; they are
nurtured at the same source. . It should be mentioned that St Paul s Cathedral, which for hundreds of
year was the tallest structure, and even today is protected by laws which protect the sight lines to the
cathedral, is a monument to the glory of God, symbol of hope, strength and resilience of the city of
London.

Homelessness in the United States
The topic I have decided to focus Genius Hour on is how to solve the problem of homelessness in the
United States. More than 3.5 million people experience homelessness each year. And in 2013, there
was a high of 2.5 million homeless children. But why should people care? People should care because
if they ever went into foreclosure, they could be secure in knowing that they would still have a place
to stay in and would not be forced to go on the streets. A solution to eliminating homelessness would
be incorporating some socialism factors of government into our federal government. I consider this a
sensible solution because our federal government has a double security system that prevents our

the poem My parents kept me from children who were rough there is a medium pace rhythm which
accelerates gradually during the poem and then slows down at the end to a slow pace. Both My
parents kept me from children who were rough and Funeral Blues have four lines in every verse but
the amount of verses in each poem differ since the poem My parents kept me from children who were
rough has only three verses whereas Funeral Blues has four. In the poem My parents kept me from
children who were rough all three of the verses are set in the past tense whereas in Funeral Blues three
of the verses are talking about the present and only one is talking about the past. The verse, which is
referring to something in the past, is the one that talks about the man who died. In the poem My

What Is My Responsibility To America Essay
My Responsibility to America
As American citizens, it is our responsibility to reach our highest potential. That potential in our

own responsibilities, none being exactly the same, but some being very similar. As citizens, we owe it
to America to hold our country to the highest standard. We, the citizens make our country a great place

while others take on a higher responsibility. America is full of opportunities to find responsibility. We

Asian Cultural Identity
Growing up as an Asian American, I often struggle to identify my own cultural identity. Being the first
generation of both my mother and father s side of the family, I more than often get confused between
American and Asian culture when applying them to society or at home. While being raised at home, I
am largely influenced by culture and traditions from Asian parents and relatives. However, when I go
to school or someplace else, I am heavily judged for practicing part of my Asian culture because it is
entirely different than western or American. With that being noted, I began to learn and adapt to the
western culture in hopes of fitting with society as well of trying to keep my Asian culture intact. As
can be seen, this situation I dealt with is the same problem the whole Asian American community
faces. Mainly focusing on younger generations like me for example, the Asian American community
struggles to adapt to the western culture because they were raised with an Asian influence. Wishing to
fit in society and be part of the social norms, the Asian Americans community faces issues that
identify their cultural identity.

Similarities And Differences Between Cats And Dogs
Almost every household in America has a pet, particularly a cat or a dog and sometimes even both.
These animals have been humans pets for thousands of years. Cats actually used to be seen as deities
because of an ancient Egyptian goddess. Egyptians would treat them with respect and dignity as they
would treat their own children. Not only were cats treated with respect, dogs were too. Dogs were
seen as faithful companions and were treasured in every family as they still are today. The reason that
people choose either a cat or a dog as a pet differ from person to person. However, sometimes people
think that there isn t much of a difference between the two animals. Although cats and dogs seem
closely related, they actually have some significant differences, such as their attitude about others,
training, and maintenance. One of the most important considerations for all pet owners is how an
animal associates with others. Cats are known for being solitary animals and are generally seen as
selfish creatures that only think about themselves. In addition, cats are usually more self sufficient pets
than dogs and typically don t rely on humans for much besides food and a clean litter box. Dogs, on
the other hand, are pack animals that enjoy receiving and giving love. This clarifies why dogs bond so
well with so many different animals and also humans. Usually, dogs see humans as their pack leader
and follow the directions they give them and also protect them. In addition, since dogs

Introduction It is so important that managers understand how to manage. This word manage is not just
getting employees to conform to a specific thing or a standard. As a leader being able to manage
involves planning and leading, organizing and controlling. A good leader or manager may not be able
to hone these four areas as an expert right away, but with mentoring, training, and time from upper and
middle management the excellence will come. Management is the process of working with people and
resources to accomplish organizational goals. Good managers do those things both well and

There should be key questions that need to be answered in order to continue to move forward
progressively. Questions such as: Can your current staff carry out its part of the plan or will additional
training be needed? Will the company financially be able to handle a costly investment to commit to
new projects? Questions of this magnitude will enable CEOs and executives to make decisions on
current resources and functions as well as performance levels. Some internal factors of any company
would be financial, marketing, operations, human resources. The financial factor would include
examining areas such as strengths and weaknesses from current documentation, tax statements,
historical and industry numbers. The marketing factor would include areas such as marketing
activities, market segments, and the competitor s position. This factor also has strengths and
weaknesses. The next area is the operations factor which includes production, manufacturing, along

Abstinence-Only Education And Teen Pregnancy Rates
Sex education, arguably one of the most controversial topics to surface in American politics over the
past half century, poses a complicated problem to citizens and lawmakers alike. Following the AIDS
epidemic and spike in teen pregnancy in the 1980s, lawmakers and educators began drafting and
implementing more sex education classes and courses in public schools in an attempt to remedy the
ever growing issue. While few object to the idea in itself, the method and content of its teaching is
highly controversial. Should we teach abstinence or safe sex? How early should children be exposed
to this material? How effective are these classes? These are just a few questions surrounding the issue,
which are often disputed.

Two Forms Of Learning In Malcolm Gladwell sThe Art Of...
Society today expects individuals to be good at what they do all the time, and frequently that is not
always the case. No matter how good someone is at something they can still choke or panic, which are
two very different forms of failure (Gladwell, 2000). Choking is when an individual starts
overthinking in the moment and becomes so nervous they cannot do anything except fail; panicking is
when an individual stops thinking in the moment and cannot control themselves (Gladwell, 2000).
During both, it is like the individuals mind goes blank and their memory of what to do leaves, almost
like they are back at a beginner s level.
From a psychological point of view, memory is the ability to store and retrieve information over time
(Schacter, Gilbert, Wegner, Nock, 2015). Usually, you hear adults speaking of their childhood, and
something funny they remember their grandparents doing. This is what memory is, remembering a
funny childhood moment or even what they done yesterday and recall it to someone else.
In Malcolm Gladwell s (2000) article The Art of Failure he discussed two forms of learning that are
very different from each other. Both are tested using a computer video game. The individual is sat at a
computer screen that has four boxes lined up next to each other, and when the game starts x s
gradually appear; the person then must hit the key that matches the box. Explicit learning is when the
proctor tells the individual ahead of time how to play the game and the

Driving Laws And Penalties For Teens
Becoming a teenager is all about transitioning from childhood to adulthood. Gaining more privileges
give teens freedom and responsibilities. Driving can be a deadly privilege if not taken seriously. With
more teens dying behind the wheel, changes need to be made. Driving laws and penalties for teens
should be drastically changed to prevent deaths and injuries. It is important to try to stop this issue
from the source before teens start to drive by themselves. According to Huffington Post, one in five
United States teens never took any form of driver s education courses before getting their licenses.
While going to driver s education isn t mandatory in all states, it can still help improve teens driving,
says Road Safety Authority. Also, while at driver s education teens can learn new techniques such as
defensive driving from a professional. Making driver s education mandatory in all states can help
teens be safe and skilled drivers. Not only does every state need to make this mandatory, but driver s
education courses need to be made free.
Another way to prevent teen accidents from the very start is more practice time. Surprisingly, the
greatest lifetime chance of crashing occurs in the first 6 months after licensure, says Teen Driver
Source. From looking at this statistic, teens need more time with having their permit before getting
their license. Practicing more with an adult by a teen s side can help prepare them better for driving
with their new license. It needs to

Company Weaknesses And Resource Deficiencies
COMPANY WEAKNESSES AND RESOURCE DEFICIENCIES
Rising Prices: FedEx prices are higher as compared to their competitors which can be a potential
weakness if their customers do not perceive a difference between FedEx and its competitors.
Labor Disputes with Pilots: The FedEx Pilots Association is formed by the FedEx pilots. The motive
of this global body was to bring about changes in the pilots salaries, retirement benefits and also
restricting outsourcing of foreign flights. The pilots can share their views and feelings through a
website. There was a case in 1998 where the pilots were about to go on a strike which enabled FedEx
and FedEx Pilots Association to develop an agreement that was posted on the website. However, this
agreement did not satisfy the expectations of the pilots and thus, this is an internal weakness for
Federal Express keeping in mind the fact that it has about 3500 employees in its kitty. FedEx would
suffer and force other competitors to take over if its pilots would go on strike and also incur heavy
losses. There was a case in 1997 where the UPS employees went on strike forcing FedEx to take an
extra 800,000 shipments in a day.
Running Subsidiaries Separately: FedEx has made a conscious effort to keep their companies separate
to allow a much more organized and structured working environment.

Another potential big barrier for the economy is the moving in of large foreign companies such as the
clothing retailer H M, and the warehouse style membership based Costco. As Iceland deals with new
competition and a recovering economy, the labor force has gone through some big changes. The labor
force has risen to a high of 196,500 people in 2016 and participation in the job market has risen to
83%, both of which could be attributed to the recently booming tourism industry (Iceland Chamber of
Commerce, 2017). A large portion of Iceland s domestic economy comes from things like tourism, IT
and communication, and other things that do not really require packaging and handling, however, the
fishing sector is very dependent on effective packaging and handling. Valka is a company in Iceland
that develops and provides technology and equipment for the fishing industry. Their equipment can
cover the whole process of grading and batching, trimming, cutting and portioning, and packaging the

the country and its population is near water, so sophisticated trucks and other transportation modes
aren t really as important for the domestic side of packaging and handling, but the farther away the
fish is shipped the more advanced and complex the solutions need to be. The domestic channels are

Ben Carson was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 18th, 1951, and from there his life was a
downhill struggle. At the age of 13, his mother Sonya married a much older Baptist preacher named
Robert Solomon Carson, who was from Tennessee. They had two children, Curtis and Benjamin.
When Ben was 8 years old, Sonya and Robert divorced, and Robert moved back to Tennessee. Sonya
was left to raise the two boys alone (World Biographies pg. 1). Ben Carson has changed history,
science, math, and literature because he refused to let his trials hold him back. Dr. Carson has made a
profound impact on our country, and may still have an impact, because he sets personal goals and
doesn t stop until he has achieved them. Ben went to school only because ... Show more content on

Dr. Carson changed history because he changed his personal mindset. He began to see himself as a
student with potential to learn. He started working hard and actually graduated high school with
honors. He made it into Yale University, and earned his degree in Psychology ( Benjamin Carson
Biography pg. 1). However, Ben changed his mind soon after and went to the University of Michigan
to become a neurosurgeon (Dr. Ben Carson pg. 1).
Ben made a massive impact on history because of his strong work ethic. Because his mother could not
provide money for him to go to college, he had to work while he was training to become a
neurosurgeon. Ben would knock on doors every summer in order to find a job, and he was usually
successful because of his commitment . His hard work paid off when he graduated from Yale and
became a gifted neurosurgeon (Ben Carson Biography pg. 1). Dr. Carson changed history because of
his willingness to take risks. He was hired at Johns Hopkins Hospital where he worked for almost
forty years. Ben has received much recognition for performing and mastering ground breaking
surgical procedures because he was the first one willing to take risks (Dr. Ben Carson pg. 1). Dr.
Carson worked towards a goal if there was even a slight chance of success. He risked his job one time,
because he knew he could save someone s

Metaphor Criticism Of Princess Diana By Elton John
Countries have been known for what they might particularly stand for. Some might also be known for
those that stand for the nation itself. For the country of England, Lady Diana Frances Spencer was
vastly known for her constant engagement in the kingdom s social issues. She was a child activist and
was quite popular in media due to societies fascination with English royalty. Princess Diana used this
to her advantage and, she devoted herself to her sons [Prince William and Prince Harry] and to such
charitable efforts as the battle against the use of land mines (Diana, 2014). Her life in mainstream
media helped to have her be heard beyond the boarders of England and she became an icon to the
world for her gracious poise and outreach to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will discuss through Metaphor criticism that the rhetor, Elton John, conceptualizes Princess Diana to
the audience through his lyrics in what she symbolically stood as, who she was as a person and how
she impacted numerous lives. In particular, I explore the question of how the close relationship
between the media and the princess created a realistic friendship between those of the common media
audience and the royal Diana. John successfully strengthens the diverse audience s express of grief
personally for the princess even though they might not have known her directly, such as Elton John.
Now that I have provided background regarding the reasoning and origin of the song, I turn my
attention towards the explanation regarding a description and the procedures of Metaphor criticism.
Metaphoric criticism is a comparison of two items that suggest a resemblance. Through this use of
language it can help to enliven ordinary language. Through this is can also help an audience visualize
certain ideas. (Blair, 2014). Yet, through a rhetorical perspective, metaphors are now seen as a large
means for the creation of reality. Metaphor is a basic way by which the process of using symbols to
construct reality occurs (Foss, 2009, p. 268). There are two major parts of a metaphor, the tenor and
the vehicle. The tenor is known as the topic or the subject, and the vehicle is the mechanism or rather
the lens viewing for the target.

Gender Stereotypes In The Ordeal Of Gilbert Pinfold
Gender Stereotypes in The Ordeal Of Gilbert Pinfold In The Ordeal Of Gilbert Pinfold by Evelyn
Waugh, Gilbert Pinfold has plenty of interactions with other characters and exhibits many gender
stereotypes. There is evidence to support this by the way in which Gilbert presents himself to various
characters. His dominance over women for example is evident in his relationship with Margaret.
Gilbert also takes on a challenge of manhood presented by Fosker. Finally Gilbert demonstrates the
men are always right stereotype throughout his interactions with the B.B.C. Therefore, whether it is a
hallucination or a real life encounter Gilbert is constantly seeking appraise and an opportunity to
demonstrate his masculinity. Gilbert and Margaret share a unique relationship throughout the novel.
Margaret serves as Gilbert s most fond hallucination despite having great doubt and confusion towards
Margaret as he is never able to interact with her face to face. It is not until Gilbert is presented with an
opportunity to take her virginity that he shows any interested in her. It is now that Gilbert can truly
feel like a man that he shows any signs of dominance. After receiving an invitation into Gilbert s cabin
Margaret refuses resulting in Gilbert saying, Oh, don t be such a little ass. I ve been sitting here for
goodness knows how long. Come in if you re coming. If you re not, I want to go back to bed. (143).
Gilbert believes that for Margaret it is an honour to sleep with him and Gilbert feels that he should not
have to spend any extra energy than required. This is for multiple reasons such as age. Gilbert is many
years older than Margaret and with that comes a status and power. Gilbert feels as if he is higher than
Margaret and too good to wait even another minute for her to enter the room. He would rather go back
to bed then to spend anymore time waiting for Margaret to come and sleep with him. Another reason
is the simple fact that Margaret is a female. With Margaret being a female Gilbert is given an excuse
to be a jerk throughout the whole situation. This is not the first time Gilbert has demonstrated a lack of
respect towards females. In a prior interaction with Margaret s mother, Gilbert is caught up in the

Gatsby s Intense Journey For Love
Gatsby s Intense Journey For Love
Gatsby exemplifies an individual who can not always get what he or she yearns for. He possesses
more than millions of people have combined, yet is still not satisfied. There is only one thing that
Gatsby is destined to have, and that is Daisy Buchanan s unconditional love. Hence by the name, she
is married to another man: Tom Buchanan. The madness begins before Daisy gets married when she
shares a kiss of a lifetime with James Gatz. Gatsby allows himself to fall in love with her, and from
that moment on, all of his life decisions and daily problems are stimulated by Daisy, and framed
around her life. Some may consider Gatsby to be an extreme stalker or nutcase, but in reality Gatsby

And I thought that if you don t make very much You re selling bonds, aren t you, old sport? Well, this
would interest you. It wouldn t take up much of your time and you might pick up a nice bit of money.
It happens to be rather confidential sort of thing, (82 83). Here, Gatsby is trying to make it seem like
he is doing Nick a friendly favor, when in fact he knows that Nick is Daisy s cousin all along.
Essentially, he assumes that if he can get closer to Nick, it will bring him even closer to Daisy. Gatsby
s absurd reasoning behind his illegal activity is solely due to his belief that it is all for Daisy. He truly
is not a bad person at heart, nor are his intentions to harm anyone. He simply wants to be with Daisy
and he is willing to do anything to make this dream a reality. He needs this money so that Daisy can
be just as in love with him as he is with her. He thinks that if he is more wealthy and flamboyant, she
will be amazed and come running back to him. He is clearly determined to change himself, as he goes
as far as risking his life, and being put behind bars in order to reinvent himself. By the time he
manages to become extremely wealthy, he returns back to the real world to find that Daisy has already
moved on. He does not accept the fact that Daisy is no longer interested in him, which further
infuriates him. His anger and frustration fuel his passion to get back with her. Furthermore, Gatsby is
so at the mercy of

The Movie, Lean On Me Opens Up To Eastside High School
The movie, Lean on Me opens up to Eastside High School 20 years earlier in Paterson, New Jersey. At
the time the inner city school flourished, and was successful in their education system till the funding
towards the school was cut by the mayor who wanted to save his budget. Over the next 20 years the
high school became overwhelmed with drug use, gang violence and poor scores on the minimum basic
skills standardized test. The movie focuses on a man named Joe Clark, who used to be a teacher at
Eastside High School 20 years before. In one of the opening scenes the Mayor Bottman and Dr. Frank
Napier discuss that if the school cannot meet minimum basic skills test requirements then the school
would essentially be placed in receivership. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clark refused and made enemies with Leona Barrett, a woman whose son was one of the 300 expelled
from the high school. Many parents accused him of going against their people, and were outraged by
his actions. Soon afterwards the next day, Thomas Sams one of the students Clark expelled, begs
Clark to let him back into the school. In tears, Sams explains he doesn t want to be a part of the crime
gangs on the street anymore. At first Clark was skeptical, Sams was in trouble multiple of times for
smoking crack, but after a dramatic lecture about the harm crack can do to a person he allows Sams
back into the school. Under Clark s heavy hand the school begins to undergo a transformation, the
school walls were repainted and behavior of the students at the school were better. Only problem is
when Clark made the students take a practice minimum basic skills exam, only 33% passed, the
school needed 75% of their students to pass the test to not have the school be put in receivership.
Based on the low test scores principal Clark embarks on a motivational campaign for the students, as
he tries to not only motivate the students to learn, but essentially becomes a father figure to many of
the students and a great example of behavioral conduct. Tensions in the school still rose as one of the
expelled students, came into the school and caused a fight with the students. Enraged, Clark threw him
out and barred the doors with chains to keep the

Archeology In Raiders Of The Lost Ark
Definition of Archeology
Uninformed people might think that archaeology is the stuff of Indiana Jones, the character played by
Harrison Ford in the classic 1981 Movie entitled Raiders of the Lost Ark. In this movie, Jones was an
adventurer and so called archaeologist who sought a golden idol. Jones did not proceed in an orderly,
scientific fashion, nor record the surroundings, location, or precise measurements.
There are many different definitions for archeology, and here are a few: Archeology is the study of
human history and prehistory through the excavation of sites and the analysis of artifacts and other
physical remains says one source, It is an area of science that studies people and animals from the past
and the things they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This research uncovers the written records associated with the area of interest. In addition to primary
historical documents, archaeologists will look for site reports that have been prepared by other
archaeologists who have studied the area. These reports will often describe what was found in the area
during any previous archaeological investigations and will help guide the archeologists to new
discoveries. The archives today are stored on huge computer systems and can be recovered at anytime

Thoughts on What s It Mean To be Human
Last year I had a lot of headaches. Two months passed, and I still did not go to the doctor. However,
one morning I woke up, and I just could not open my eyes because the pain that I had in my head
would not let me. Also I felt dizzy every time that I tried to stand up. I decided to go to the doctor and
present my concerns. The doctor recommeded an MRI test. The test indicated that I have a tumor in
my pituitary. Thanks to the great development of technology and good equipment such as the
computer system that doctor used to test and figure out my disease, I am being treated successfully

It wasnt until 1991, when a man by the name of Hugh Loebner decided to pay for a contest . To
implement the Turing test, Loebner pledged a grand prize of $100,000 for the first person who could
design a program that would fool ten judges for three hours of conversation. Also, each year an annual
prize of $2000 and a bronze medal is awarded to the most human computer. In addition, to make
things easy Loebner allowed each programmer to choose one topic for the conversation. Robert
Epstein is a behavioral psychologist. He was the person in charge of the Loebners contest. The
programmers who are going to participate in the contest are called Confederates and Epstein explained
that in order to fool the ten judges, the confederates must work hard to convince the judges that they
are human. In fact, the main purpose is to find out whether ten judges could tell the difference between
human and artificial intelligence. Charles Platt, one of the confederates was introduced to Hugh
Loebner during lunch one day. In their conversation Platt asked Loebner why he does the contest
especially in artificial intelligence and if he does it with all his money? Loebner has his own business,
Crown Industries. This industry makes roll up plastic lighted portable disco dance floors. Therefore,
Loebner has enough money to pay for the contest. There are two reasons why Loebner does research
for artificial intelligent. The first one is that

Effects Of Free College Tuition
Introducing free college tuition would have a positive impact of The United States, even so much as
two year associate s degree would have a hung impact. Free college tuition would give hope to the
families which can t afford the cost of tuition. Fran Cubberley states in his paper The reality of Free
Community College Tuition that 1,300 students who completed our entry process through course
registration ultimately dropped out before classes were underway. One of the major reasons was they
could not pay their tuition. Cost for tuition is huge factor on why people don t attend college. Just
think of all the amazing talent that the world is missing out on because people don t have the money to

They go on to state that The average cost for tuition and fees for a four year private college averaged
$19,710 that s a hung number to worry about on up of everything else a college student has to worry
about. There s a lot time that is devoted into studying and getting good grades which in return doesn t
leave a whole lot of time which can be devoted to work. The average time a student should study is
about two hours per week for each credit hour taken. For example if the student has 15 credit hours
that same student should expect to study for at least 30 hours per week which is practically equal to
another full time job.
In the United States there are already a few different states that are offering free college tuition. Those
states being, Rhode Island, Tennessee, San Francisco, New York, Oregon and a few others. Let s focus
on the state of San Francisco a little more. In the article San Francisco will offer free college tuition to
residents Amanda Hoover states, Mayor Ed Lee announced an agreement to budget $5.4 million in
tuition for the college Monday. Officials say that will cover tuition for current students and allow the
school to expand enrollment by 20 percent. Low income students who qualify will also see the cost of
their books covered in small grants. This will give hope to those which don t have enough money to

Summary Of A Room Of One s Own By Virginia Woolf
While searching through history for documented women achievements, Virginia Woolf decided to
speak about how they had way less opportunities than men throughout A Room of One s Own .
Through utilizing diction, imagery, and pathos, Woolf expressed her views on the treatment of women
in the early 20th century while delivering a lecture at a university. She achieved this opening up with
Mary Beton, a fictional character, being forced off the grass and denied access to the library. This was
used to show the different treatments men and women got, as the female only university also had
awful food in comparison to the college with men. The next day, she went to the museum and
discovered that much of the information written about women were done

  • 2. Benjamin Franklin Influence Perhaps, one of the most quotable men in the United States history is Benjamin Franklin. He was a visionary who coined multitudes of aphorisms such as, Have you something to do tomorrow? Do it today and Industry gives comfort and plenty and respect. However, his talent was not only limited to his ability to make memorable phrases, he was also a pioneer in inventions from the stove to bifocals to the lighting rod. He is a man who has become known as one of the founding fathers of the United States and who, to this day, graces our hundred dollar bills. Ironically enough, this man who has become engraved as an American national treasure was not always a ferment nationalist, and even felt a sense of loyalty toward the mother country of England. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He believed that uniting the colonies and England would lead to a stronger nation. Franklin was sure that having the crown, as a mother country, was not an ailment but rather a powerful helping hand for the colonies. In fact, as he and the colonies grew in independence and self sufficiency, Franklin and other leaders drew up a proposal to ensure their voice in legislation without being free of the power of the English. He states, By this plan the general government was to be administered by a president general, appointed and supported by the crown, a grand council was to be chosen by the representative assemblies (Franklin 102). However, the English rejected the idea and deemed it too democratic and although the proposal was not approved, Franklin still held some levels of patriotism towards Britain. Keeping in mind the high regard he held England it is no wonder he was more so inclined around the time of the Seven Years War to fight alongside the British. He was quick to come up with plans on defense and was efficient in acquiring what was needed in terms of money and defense. He worked closed with Generals and Governors, and was an instrumental part of the war. Franklin was sure to solidify his place as an American who was highly regarded by the English and in a sense might have been due to his pursue of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Shakespeare s Use of the Idea of Disguise in As You Like It Shakespeare uses the idea of disguise in many of his plays. It is used as an escape from the characters personalities and sometimes for comic effect. In As You Like it, the disguise becomes very comical as in the time it was written only men could act on stage. This could lead to much confusion and comedy in the roles of those in disguise. Disguise can give the freedom to a character to act how they like and a chance for them to show their views. It was in the 16th Century that there became an increased sense of self consciousness and identity. This led to people creating an image for themselves. If one can create a self, they can create many different versions of themselves each showing a different aspect of that person. This links in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As she is disguised as Ganymede, this is possible. She would not have been able to do this as a woman. When she is disguised as a man, more people listen to Ganymede. Although it is the same person, she can have much more say about her views and opinions when she is disguised as Ganymede. However, simply because her personality is not accepted as a woman, it does not mean that she is not presenting it. By showing that she enjoys watching the wrestling, she is revealing her true personality. She does not have to be disguised as a boy to do this. The disguise may show other aspects of the character s personality but it is still shown through their everyday person. Another point to make on this matter would be that the character of Rosalind would have been played by a male and the audience would know this. This could mean that the reason Shakespeare included Rosalind s enjoyment of manly sports was because Rosalind is actually a man in the attire of a woman. There is a large confusion of the gender of Rosalind throughout the play. By confusing the gender, Shakespeare is focusing more on the personality of Rosalind than her appearance. The question of gender is continued at the very end of the play. In many of his plays, Shakespeare ends with an epilogue read by a male character. In As You Like it, the epilogue is performed by Rosalind. The epilogue seems to be outside the play as if the actor was talking but Rosalind is still in character. She says herself; It is ... • 5. Effects of Insulin on IGF-1 Receptors Pref 1 has been linked to IGF 1 and ERK MAPK pathways where prevention of ERK phosphorylation by the MAPK/ERK kinase (MEK) inhibitor PD98059 enhances adipocytes differentiation (Wang, 2010). Insulin also binds to IGF 1 receptors with low affinity (Smith, 1988) and stimulates the formation of an active Ras GTP complex and ERK MAPK pathway (Porras, 1996) and the PI3K pathway. Both these pathways appear to be required for adipogenesis (Sale, 1995; Sakaue, 1998; Tang, 2005). The Ras GTP complex activates RAF kinase which is phosphorylated to induce MAPK. The phosphorylated MAPK interacts with Elk1. Phohosphorylation of Ekl1 facilitates binding to the mediator complex via the Med23 subunit (Stevens, 2002; Wang, 2005). The mediator complex is a multi protein complex which bridges gene specific transcription factors and transcriptional machinery. The Mediator Med23 (Sur2) subunit was originally identified as a genetic suppressor of a hyperactive Ras phenotype in C.elegans (Singh, 1995). Elk1 is a member of the ternary complex factor family and an important regulator of adipogenesis. The Elk1/Med23 interaction controls the expression of Krox20 in a MAPK dependent manner by promoting a productive preinitiation complex which leads to transcription (Wang, 2009). Krox20 is expressed in adipose tissue (Soukas, 2001) and is the first transcriptional factor expressed during adipogenesis after insulin stimulation (Chen, 2005; Gonzalez, 2005). Krox20 expression has been reported to regulate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He is using weapons such as guns, chainsaws, and knives to kill and commit horrible crimes. Thousands of children and teens participate in these actions daily. How? Violent Video games such as Doom, Call of Duty, and Grand Theft Auto are just a few of the games that are full of these awful actions. The Harvard Mental Health Letter states, The Pew Research Center reported in 2008 that 97% of youths ages 12 to 17 played some type of video game, and that two thirds of them played action and adventure games that tend to contain violent content (Violent...Young People 1). These violent video games contribute to aggressive behavior, bullying, and recently spotlighted school shootings. Many believe these games should be banned for children and teens. Critics say that these games give adolescents a way to vent out their anger and frustrations in a safe environment and that there is research to prove violent video games have no effect on normal children. Because they are harmful, video games that promote violence should be banned in regards to children and youth. The first and most important reason video games should be banned for children is the ... This deeply rooted country, in comparison to Western culture, is different in many ways. Culture is defined as a civilization s way of life, their beliefs, morals, laws, and customs. People use technology so often and it s been blamed onto one site like Google. In reality, how often is that user on the internet. Also, many other sites are just as used as Google is. Does that make those websites also unjust? The word unjust is defined as lacking in justice or fairness, which, in reference to the proposed question suggests that Google is being held to a legal or moral standard. In reality Google simply provides a means to gather and research information and does not set the rules. In discovering two indigenous populations, the Germans delegated power to the more Caucasian group, the Tutsi. Despite an absence of previous conflict between the Tutsi and Hutu, the other group of the region, the sudden power of the Tutsi established societal divides and cultivated angst, resulting in an eventual horrific genocide and the death of over 800 thousand people. Historical Context Beginning in 1885 when Germany put the Tutsi population in government positions, a division appeared in the population of Rwanda between the Hutu and Tutsi. When Belgium took over rule of Rwanda in 1926, they believed it would be easier to keep the Tutsi in power, widening the gap between these two people. Later, in 1935, Belgium instituted identity cards to show whether one was Tutsi, Hutu, or Twa/Batwa (Twa are another group living in Rwanda who were also persecuted during the Rwandan Genocide). • 17. Ask Your Mam 12 Moods For Jazz Langston Hughes s book, Ask Your Mama: 12 Moods for Jazz, presents several jazz pieces that express the suffering African Americans have had to face over many years. The vernacular tradition in these works, is expressed through the jazz music that plays in the background while the poems recited (Pasadena City College). The jazz music gives the poems a feeling of Blues, but also tends to have a more upbeat feeling during certain points of the poems. In Ask Your Mama: 12 Moods for Jazz, all of the twelve pieces have a connection to each other in various ways. The connections involve the degree of suffering, money, or success. In Ode to Dinah and Horn of Plenty, Hughes exhibits all three of these connections, both in similarities and differences. Suffering is a concept that can be seen through every one of the works in Ask Your Mama: 12 Moods for Jazz. In Ode to Dinah, the suffering component can be seen when Hughes states Even when you re winning/There s no way not to lose (Hughes 493). For an African American, being able to reach a goal and provide for your family is very difficult, especially if you are living in poverty. Poverty is the primary problem in Ode to Dinah. The imagery in the video shows many pictures of African Americans who are doing jobs that involve a large amount of physical labor (Pasadena City College). This signifies how much harder African Americans work in comparison to whites. The African Americans in the video do not look happy, and look as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Importance Of Building Community In Schools Organizations tend to face many unique challenges. One of these challenges, especially in schools, is building a sense of community. Thomas J. Sergiovanni s Building Community in Schools, first published in 1994, asserts that in order for schools to improve in any and all aspects of the school environment, the school should first place an emphasis on community building. Sergiovanni was a professor of education at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas where he taught in the school leadership program and in the teacher education program. He worked in the education field from the time of his graduation from the State University of New York in 1958 until his retirement in 2009. During that time, he authored more than 30 textbooks and journal articles. Throughout Building Community in Schools, Sergiovanni repeatedly refers to two Russian terms: gemeinschaft (community) and gesellschaft (society). He uses these terms in order to better describe the community building process within schools. The main theme of this book is that every person within a school plays an important role in how effective the school can become by building on the basic premise that a team can accomplish much more than an individual. The author touches on how we are losing a sense of community and why this is not in the best interest of our children. He also expounds on the importance of community building, not only in schools, but why it is essential to our development as human beings. This book is a must read for any educator as it gives great insight into the importance of community in education. The book starts with a preface in which Sergiovanni builds the framework for the importance of community in schools. Sergiovanni states that when a school has a sense of community it lifts both teachers and students to higher levels of understanding, commitment, and performance beyond the reaches of the shortcomings and difficulties they face in their everyday lives. Once again, this is the basic premise for the entire book: that more can be accomplished by a team than an individual. The beginning of the book focuses on how community loss has come about, how it is affecting our schools, and why it is important to rebuild community. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They also didn t name Tennessee because it was mostly back to the Union by then. Most slaves where not let go immediately but the Act freed thousands of slaves. Lincoln thought people would think that the Emancipation Proclamation would be only temporary due to the war and be soon forgotten. So what Abraham did is he made the 13Th Amendment. The 13Th Amendment stated that slavery was illegal to all states, and also that it is illegal to make people work against their will to benefit themselves, which is called involuntary servitude. The C.S.A collapsed when generals Robert E.Lee and Joesph E. Johnston surrendered their armies over to the Union. In the novel the setting of the story takes place in a small town named Castle Rock that is located in Maine in the year 1960 and in the film the setting is Castle Rock, Oregon in 1959. This difference would be considered a minor change because it is only one year apart from the original date in the novel and the change of the state does not really matter. Adding to differences is that in the novel in chapter seven there is a story that is told by Gordie called Stud City in the film it is not shown or mentioned. This would be considered a major change because the story shows how smart and mature Gordie is for a twelve year old and it is important for the build up of the character but it is excluded from the film. Another difference is that in the novel when the boys find the body and they confront the other boys Chris pulls the gun out to make them leave. In the film it is Gordie who takes out the gun to make them leave. This is a major change because in the novel it helped make the ending make more sense and helped Chris buildup as a character. In addition to differences in the novel when the boys are on there journey they go into the pond to swim because they want to. These animals have been humans pets for thousands of years. Cats actually used to be seen as deities because of an ancient Egyptian goddess. Egyptians would treat them with respect and dignity as they would treat their own children. Not only were cats treated with respect, dogs were too. Dogs were seen as faithful companions and were treasured in every family as they still are today. The reason that people choose either a cat or a dog as a pet differ from person to person. However, sometimes people think that there isn t much of a difference between the two animals. Although cats and dogs seem closely related, they actually have some significant differences, such as their attitude about others, training, and maintenance. One of the most important considerations for all pet owners is how an animal associates with others. Cats are known for being solitary animals and are generally seen as selfish creatures that only think about themselves. In addition, cats are usually more self sufficient pets than dogs and typically don t rely on humans for much besides food and a clean litter box. Dogs, on the other hand, are pack animals that enjoy receiving and giving love. This clarifies why dogs bond so well with so many different animals and also humans. • 36. Two Forms Of Learning In Malcolm Gladwell sThe Art Of... Society today expects individuals to be good at what they do all the time, and frequently that is not always the case. No matter how good someone is at something they can still choke or panic, which are two very different forms of failure (Gladwell, 2000). Choking is when an individual starts overthinking in the moment and becomes so nervous they cannot do anything except fail; panicking is when an individual stops thinking in the moment and cannot control themselves (Gladwell, 2000). During both, it is like the individuals mind goes blank and their memory of what to do leaves, almost like they are back at a beginner s level. From a psychological point of view, memory is the ability to store and retrieve information over time (Schacter, Gilbert, Wegner, Nock, 2015). Usually, you hear adults speaking of their childhood, and something funny they remember their grandparents doing. This is what memory is, remembering a funny childhood moment or even what they done yesterday and recall it to someone else. In Malcolm Gladwell s (2000) article The Art of Failure he discussed two forms of learning that are very different from each other. Both are tested using a computer video game. While going to driver s education isn t mandatory in all states, it can still help improve teens driving, says Road Safety Authority. Also, while at driver s education teens can learn new techniques such as defensive driving from a professional. Making driver s education mandatory in all states can help teens be safe and skilled drivers. Not only does every state need to make this mandatory, but driver s education courses need to be made free. Another way to prevent teen accidents from the very start is more practice time. Surprisingly, the greatest lifetime chance of crashing occurs in the first 6 months after licensure, says Teen Driver Source. From looking at this statistic, teens need more time with having their permit before getting their license. Practicing more with an adult by a teen s side can help prepare them better for driving with their new license. It needs to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Company Weaknesses And Resource Deficiencies COMPANY WEAKNESSES AND RESOURCE DEFICIENCIES Rising Prices: FedEx prices are higher as compared to their competitors which can be a potential weakness if their customers do not perceive a difference between FedEx and its competitors. Labor Disputes with Pilots: The FedEx Pilots Association is formed by the FedEx pilots. The motive of this global body was to bring about changes in the pilots salaries, retirement benefits and also restricting outsourcing of foreign flights. The pilots can share their views and feelings through a website. There was a case in 1998 where the pilots were about to go on a strike which enabled FedEx and FedEx Pilots Association to develop an agreement that was posted on the website. However, this agreement did not satisfy the expectations of the pilots and thus, this is an internal weakness for Federal Express keeping in mind the fact that it has about 3500 employees in its kitty. FedEx would suffer and force other competitors to take over if its pilots would go on strike and also incur heavy losses. There was a case in 1997 where the UPS employees went on strike forcing FedEx to take an extra 800,000 shipments in a day. Running Subsidiaries Separately: FedEx has made a conscious effort to keep their companies separate to allow a much more organized and structured working environment. Another potential big barrier for the economy is the moving in of large foreign companies such as the clothing retailer H M, and the warehouse style membership based Costco. As Iceland deals with new competition and a recovering economy, the labor force has gone through some big changes. The labor force has risen to a high of 196,500 people in 2016 and participation in the job market has risen to 83%, both of which could be attributed to the recently booming tourism industry (Iceland Chamber of Commerce, 2017). A large portion of Iceland s domestic economy comes from things like tourism, IT and communication, and other things that do not really require packaging and handling, however, the fishing sector is very dependent on effective packaging and handling. Valka is a company in Iceland that develops and provides technology and equipment for the fishing industry. Their equipment can cover the whole process of grading and batching, trimming, cutting and portioning, and packaging the fish as well as use software to manage the entire order and production process (Valka, 2017). Most of the country and its population is near water, so sophisticated trucks and other transportation modes aren t really as important for the domestic side of packaging and handling, but the farther away the fish is shipped the more advanced and complex the solutions need to be. For the country of England, Lady Diana Frances Spencer was vastly known for her constant engagement in the kingdom s social issues. She was a child activist and was quite popular in media due to societies fascination with English royalty. Princess Diana used this to her advantage and, she devoted herself to her sons [Prince William and Prince Harry] and to such charitable efforts as the battle against the use of land mines (Diana, 2014). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will discuss through Metaphor criticism that the rhetor, Elton John, conceptualizes Princess Diana to the audience through his lyrics in what she symbolically stood as, who she was as a person and how she impacted numerous lives. In particular, I explore the question of how the close relationship between the media and the princess created a realistic friendship between those of the common media audience and the royal Diana. John successfully strengthens the diverse audience s express of grief personally for the princess even though they might not have known her directly, such as Elton John. Now that I have provided background regarding the reasoning and origin of the song, I turn my attention towards the explanation regarding a description and the procedures of Metaphor criticism. Metaphoric criticism is a comparison of two items that suggest a resemblance. Through this use of language it can help to enliven ordinary language. Through this is can also help an audience visualize certain ideas. (Blair, 2014). Yet, through a rhetorical perspective, metaphors are now seen as a large means for the creation of reality. Metaphor is a basic way by which the process of using symbols to construct reality occurs (Foss, 2009, p. 268). There are two major parts of a metaphor, the tenor and the vehicle. The tenor is known as the topic or the subject, and the vehicle is the mechanism or rather the lens viewing for the target. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is not until Gilbert is presented with an opportunity to take her virginity that he shows any interested in her. It is now that Gilbert can truly feel like a man that he shows any signs of dominance. After receiving an invitation into Gilbert s cabin Margaret refuses resulting in Gilbert saying, Oh, don t be such a little ass. I ve been sitting here for goodness knows how long. Come in if you re coming. If you re not, I want to go back to bed. (143). Gilbert believes that for Margaret it is an honour to sleep with him and Gilbert feels that he should not have to spend any extra energy than required. This is for multiple reasons such as age. Gilbert is many years older than Margaret and with that comes a status and power. Gilbert feels as if he is higher than Margaret and too good to wait even another minute for her to enter the room. He would rather go back to bed then to spend anymore time waiting for Margaret to come and sleep with him. Another reason is the simple fact that Margaret is a female. With Margaret being a female Gilbert is given an excuse to be a jerk throughout the whole situation. This is not the first time Gilbert has demonstrated a lack of respect towards females.
