CONCEPT
• The intent was to create social spaces that are embedded within its cultural context
along with an environmentally sensitive response to create a built environment
which enables learning and living as a community.
• The buildings in the campus capture maximum natural lighting and ventilation
through multi-level courtyards and lightwells.
• The concept serves to facilitate more interaction among the students, produce spaces
to meet informally, and enhance social integration across the students and faculty
by means of integrating design aspects like courtyards, verandah etc.
• The large volume is punctured by voids, creating a rhythmic play of light and
shadows which allows the building to respire.
DIVISION OF SPACES
• The design has been conceived spatially in 3 components, namely, The Platform,
Concourse and Parasol. It also has a basement.
• PLATFORM - Work Shops & Laboratories.
• CONCOURSE - Stilted space for cross ventilation, Office spaces, Cafeteria.
• PARASOL – Floating volume, Classroom, Studio, Shading Element.
EVOLUTION OF SHAPE
• By subtracting the void spaces and adding a new spaces by means of allowing light
into the building.
• The form of the building is separated in two half in order to admit the wind inside
the building and sunlight.
• The void space which separated the building helps in adding ventilation.
• They have done the subtraction and adding of spaces in means of programmatic
requirements.
USAGE OF TIME
• They divided the working hours by means of time.
• The top floor [Parasol] which is mostly used in morning my utilizing the northen light as a source.
• Ground floor [Platform] consist of workshops used in afternoon.
• Middle floor [Concourse] consist of admin, office, staffs and Cafeteria are used in between.
• Average time of Sun Hours is said to be 8.1 Hours.
FORM OF THE BUILDING
• The form of the building is a direct response to the hot and humid climate of Vijayawada, which
enables shading and cross ventilation.
• North-light sections for studios along with insulation of the roof and landscaping create
responsive configurations.
• Punctures in the ceiling cast varied shadows through the day.
• Cross-Ventilation
• Minimize Energy footprint.
• Environment friendly.
MULTI LEVEL COURTYARDS
• The campus is energy efficient and environment friendly in many aspects.
• The entire rainwater runoff in the campus from the terraces are channelize into two
large artificial ground water recharge pits for ground water rejuvenation.
• Softscape areas cover over sixty percent of the campus area, which encourages the
water percolation and maintains ambient micro climate.

MATERIALS
• Brutalist principles flourished from 1951 to 1975 that emphasised expression of materials in
their raw/exposed form.
• The institute building projects hues of grey of the local Tandur stone cladding.
• The fair-faced concrete with striking flashes of brown in between of the Corten steel louvres.
• Corten Steel and fly ash bricks ascribing a natural character to the building.
INFERENCE
• Proper Ventilation & Proper use of North Light.
• Materials are selected in a way that it matches the surrounding.
• Constructed in Futuristic Manner.
• Separation of the spaces are good.
• Zoning is properly done.

• Ground floor consist of common spaces like cafeteria, Auditorium,
Classroom, Workshops etc.
• The central part of the building consist of service block.
• First floor consist of HOD rooms and Admin rooms and Staffs rooms.
• Second, Three, Four & Fifth Floors consist of Studio rooms, Lecture Hall.

ORIENTATION
• Constructed in basis of Site Byelaws.
• As the site is small in size they gone for rising the building in maximum extent.
• Maximum height for the site in basis of bye laws is said to be 17m as this site is located near
airport.
• Orientation of the building is positioned in basis of Sun Path.

  • 2. SCHOOL OF PLANNING AND ARCHITECTURE VIJAYAWADA • ARCHITECTS : MO-OF [ MOBILES OFFICES] • TOTAL BUILDUP AREA: 38588 sq.m. • YEAR: 2017. • EURASIAN PRICE IN 2018. • GRIHA EXEMPLARY PEFORMANCE AWARD IN 2018. • INFLUENCED BY BRUTALIST PRINCIPLES.
  • 3. CONCEPT • The intent was to create social spaces that are embedded within its cultural context along with an environmentally sensitive response to create a built environment which enables learning and living as a community. • The buildings in the campus capture maximum natural lighting and ventilation through multi-level courtyards and lightwells. • The concept serves to facilitate more interaction among the students, produce spaces to meet informally, and enhance social integration across the students and faculty by means of integrating design aspects like courtyards, verandah etc. • The large volume is punctured by voids, creating a rhythmic play of light and shadows which allows the building to respire.
  • 4. DIVISION OF SPACES • The design has been conceived spatially in 3 components, namely, The Platform, Concourse and Parasol. It also has a basement. • PLATFORM - Work Shops & Laboratories. • CONCOURSE - Stilted space for cross ventilation, Office spaces, Cafeteria. • PARASOL – Floating volume, Classroom, Studio, Shading Element.
  • 5. EVOLUTION OF SHAPE • By subtracting the void spaces and adding a new spaces by means of allowing light into the building. • The form of the building is separated in two half in order to admit the wind inside the building and sunlight. • The void space which separated the building helps in adding ventilation. • They have done the subtraction and adding of spaces in means of programmatic requirements.
  • 6. USAGE OF TIME • They divided the working hours by means of time. • The top floor [Parasol] which is mostly used in morning my utilizing the northen light as a source. • Ground floor [Platform] consist of workshops used in afternoon. • Middle floor [Concourse] consist of admin, office, staffs and Cafeteria are used in between. • Average time of Sun Hours is said to be 8.1 Hours.
  • 7. FORM OF THE BUILDING • The form of the building is a direct response to the hot and humid climate of Vijayawada, which enables shading and cross ventilation. • North-light sections for studios along with insulation of the roof and landscaping create responsive configurations. • Punctures in the ceiling cast varied shadows through the day. • Cross-Ventilation • Minimize Energy footprint. • Environment friendly.
  • 8. MULTI LEVEL COURTYARDS • The campus is energy efficient and environment friendly in many aspects. • The entire rainwater runoff in the campus from the terraces are channelize into two large artificial ground water recharge pits for ground water rejuvenation. • Softscape areas cover over sixty percent of the campus area, which encourages the water percolation and maintains ambient micro climate.

MATERIALS • Brutalist principles flourished from 1951 to 1975 that emphasised expression of materials in their raw/exposed form. • The institute building projects hues of grey of the local Tandur stone cladding. • The fair-faced concrete with striking flashes of brown in between of the Corten steel louvres. • Corten Steel and fly ash bricks ascribing a natural character to the building.
  • 14. INFERENCE • Proper Ventilation & Proper use of North Light. • Materials are selected in a way that it matches the surrounding. • Constructed in Futuristic Manner. • Separation of the spaces are good. • Zoning is properly done.
  • 16. SCHOOL OF PLANNING AND ARCHITECTURE NEW DELHI • ARCHITECTS : T.J.MANICKMAN • LOCATION: NEWDELHI, VASANT KUNJ. • TOTAL BUILDUP AREA: 6500 SQ.m. • GROUND COVERAGE AREA: 1600 SQ.m.
  • 17. DIVISION OF SPACES • Ground floor consist of common spaces like cafeteria, Auditorium, Classroom, Workshops etc. • The central part of the building consist of service block. • First floor consist of HOD rooms and Admin rooms and Staffs rooms. • Second, Three, Four & Fifth Floors consist of Studio rooms, Lecture Hall.
  • 18. EVOLUTION OF SHAPE & ORIENTATION • Constructed in basis of Site Byelaws. • As the site is small in size they gone for rising the building in maximum extent. • Maximum height for the site in basis of bye laws is said to be 17m as this site is located near airport. • Orientation of the building is positioned in basis of Sun Path.

  • 23. INFERENCE • Landing of staircase is small. • No fire exit. • Corridor wideness is less. • Proper parking is not Provided. • Overcrowding Area. • Building lacks architectural character. • Height of the building is too high.
  • 25. COMPARISON STUDY SCHOOL OF PLANNING AND ARCHITECTURE VIJAYAWADA • Interaction is achieved by means of open courtyard. • Oriented in a way to allow the North Light. • Function of campus is connected through Staircase & Corridors. • Adequate spaces for parking and interaction. SCHOOL OF PLANNING AND ARCHITECTURE NEW DELHI • Corridors are the only source of interaction among the students. • No proper usage of North Light. • No proper Flow of Function in the Campus • No proper Parking spaces & interaction space.
  • 26. DESIGN PARAMETERS DESIGN PARAMETERS SPA , VIJAYAWADA SPA , NEW DELHI APPROACH&ENTRY OBLIQUE APPROACH & RECESSED ENTRY. OBLIQUE APPROACH & FLUSHED ENTRY. CIRCULATION THEY HAVE A PROPER CIRCULATION SPACE. NO PROPER CIRCULATION SPACE. ZONING ZONING IS WELL EXECUTED IN PLAN. NO PROPER ZONING. PLAN & FORM CLEAR PLAN WITH MORE OPEN VOID FORM. CONGESTED PLAN WITH A RECTANGLE FORM. MATERIAL LOCALLY AVAILABLE MATERIAL. MATERIALS ARE SELECTED PROPERLY.
  • 27. DESIGN PARAMETERS DESIGN PARAMETERS SPA , VIJAYAWADA SPA , NEW DELHI OPEN SPACE OPEN SPACE CAN BE SEEN IN EACH FLOORS. INSPITE OF COURTYARD THERE IS NO OPEN SPACE. LIGHT & VENTILATION PROPER USE OF NORTH LIGHT & GOOD CROSS VENTILATION. USE OF LIGHT AND VENTILATION IS NOT MUCH. VOID & MASS MORE VOID SPACES ARE PROVIDED FOR GOOD VENTILATION. NO OPEN SPACES RATHER THAN WINDOWS. VEGETATION ECO FRIENDLY CAMPUS WITH GREEN COURTYARDS. NO MUCH SPACE FOR VEGETATION.
