School magazine evaluation
My task for media was to create a school
magazine in preparation for our final coursework,
to create a music magazine.
My target audience for this magazine was the
pupils who attend the school, their
parents/guardians and teachers. I planned to
attract my target audience by including useful
sections about the school, such as introductions to
year sevens and year twelve, school news and
events, as well as pictures of the school itself.
My understanding of Photoshop made completing
the task of creating my school magazine difficult,
as I previously had little knowledge on how to use
it. Although, I knew how to insert pictures so I did
this on my front cover and contents page.
I also found the photo shoot task quite difficult
because it was hard to decide what to take
pictures of around the school, but it was enjoyable
and soon became easier. I am fairly happy with
the pictures I took because I managed to take
some of the school grounds as well as a sixth form
pupil to use on my front cover, which I’d aimed to
have in my original drawn design. However I’m
not entirely pleased with them overall because
some of them were blurry and I didn’t manage to
get more pictures of teachers and students.
I think my magazine front cover and contents
page look authentic because I’ve included
sections that you could genuinely find in a school
magazine. The pictures I’ve included could also
appear professional, if the quality was improved.
The colour scheme I’ve used also relates to my
school’s colour scheme (red, black and white),
causing it to appear more realistic. However due
to the blurry images and my knowledge of
Photoshop, it might not look that realistic.
I would have preferred to have taken more
pictures of students and teachers in classrooms
for my school magazine, as I didn’t get any, which
is something I’d change if I could. Also, I’m not
that happy with the header of my magazine, I
maybe would have made it more bold and
colourful, so if I could do it again, I’d probably do
that.
