2. My magazine, being a college magazine
represents a student social group aged around 16-
19. The main image on the front cover of my
magazine is of a girl holding her notebook and
smiling. This represents students because it is a
typical female college student, who is enjoying her
time at college. This connotes happiness and
makes college come across as an exciting place
to be. The masthead of my front cover is in capital
letters – ‘COLLEGE MAGAZINE’ to therefore
show that this magazine is for college students,
and to get across the target audience of the
magazine quickly and effectively. I used a variety
of different fonts, to make sure that the magazine
wasn’t bland, as students like modern and up-beat
types of conventions. I therefore took this into
account and made some of my text twisted,
because it gets more attention. I have chosen to
use the colour scheme of yellow, green and
purple, these colours all connote the theme of
bright, up-beat and happiness. I used cover lines
such as ‘The girl who struggled through college
but still ACED her exams’ to signify that my
magazine can relate to the students reading,
because many students struggle and find college
difficult, so therefore my cover lines would relate to
them as an individual, and would therefore make
them want to get the magazine.
HOW DOES YOUR MAGAZINE REPRESENT
PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?
For my contents page, I stuck
with the colour theme of yellow,
purely because it connotes
happiness and brightness,
which is what I wanted my
readers to feel when reading the
magazine. I used folios, and
made them in a chronological
order, because it makes the
magazine more accessible and
easier to read. I linked my
images to the cover lines on the
front and also on the contents
page, because it engages the
reader easier, and makes them
want to turn to that certain page
and read more, Moreover
having images that do not link to
my cover lines would make
them irrelevant because they
wouldn’t mean anything.

3. WHAT ASPECTS OF YOUR WORK ARE
YOU PLEASED WITH AND WHY?
As a magazine as a whole, I am more
pleased with how the front cover turned
out, because it is more suitable for my
target audience and isn’t bland and dull,
moreover the front cover is full of vibrant
colours, making it more up-beat. I am very
pleased with how my front covers image is,
and how well the photo shoot went. I am
pleased with the layout of my magazine,
and how well the colours that I chose to
use (yellow, green and purple) mix together,
and therefore create a content mood to it. I
am satisfied with the cover lines I chose to
use on the front cover, because they are all
effective and grab your attention into the
magazine. I especially like the cover line
“what really goes on behind closed doors?”
because of the fact that it makes you think
about what the story is behind it, and
leaves a sense of mystery to the reader.
The aspects of the contents page that I am
pleased with is mainly how well the fonts
and the images go well together.
4. WHAT ASPECTS OF YOUR WORK COULD
BE IMPROVED AND WHY?
The main aspect of my work that could be
improved is the layout of the contents page,
because it is very bland, as it only has a white
background, therefore meaning that I wasn’t
following the conventions of a typical ‘up-beat’
college student magazine. Moreover, I used re-
used the same image on my front cover in my
contents page also, I would therefore want to
improve that and take a variety of different
images to use, rather than using the same one
twice. Thirdly, I would improve the lack of
experimentation of fonts that I used, especially
on the contents page, as the typeface isn’t very
appealing and doesn’t stand out as much as the
front cover does. Also, on the front cover I could
improve the positioning of the masthead, as it
isn’t quite central, and is more to the right hand
side of the page.
