3.3 Explain How Built-In (Or Automatic) Stabilizers Work
Week 6 Homework Solutions
Question 3
Explain how built in (or automatic) stabilizers work. What are the differences between proportional,
progressive, and regressive tax systems as they relate to an economy s built in stability?
Answer
In a phrase, net tax revenues vary directly with GDP. When GDP is rising, so are tax collections, both
income taxes and sales taxes. At the same time, government payouts transfer payments such as
unemployment compensation and welfare are decreasing. Since net taxes are taxes less transfer
payments, net taxes definitely rise with GDP, which dampens the rise in GDP. On the other hand,
when GDP drops in a recession, tax collections slow down or actually diminish while transfer
payments rise quickly. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Meanwhile, other factors may change, rendering inappropriate a particular fiscal policy. Nevertheless,
discretionary fiscal policy is a valuable tool in preventing severe recession or severe demand pull
inflation.
A political business cycle is the concept that politicians are more interested in reelection than in
stabilizing the economy. Before the election, they enact tax cuts and spending increases to please
voters even though this may fuel inflation. After the election, they apply the brakes to restrain
inflation; the economy will slow and unemployment will rise. In this view the political process creates
economic instability.
A decrease in tax rates might be enacted to stimulate consumer spending. If households receive the tax
cut but expect it to be reversed in the near future, they may hesitate to increase their spending.
Believing that tax rates will rise again (and possibly concerned that they will rise to rates higher than
before the tax cut), households may instead save their additional after tax income in anticipation of
needing to pay taxes in the future.
The crowding out effect is the reduction in investment spending caused by the increase in interest rates
arising from an increase in government spending, financed by borrowing. The increase in G was
designed to increase AD,

How Sound Developed Changed America During The 1920s ...
In this essay I will explain how sound developed in American cinema in the 1920s, beginning with
silent films in the 1910s. I will explore the development of sound systems from large corporations in
America, and the failed experiments with sound beforehand. I will analyse the use of these sound
systems by Warner Brothers and Fox, the first film studios to adopt sound, and explore how this led to
the Big Five film studios also adopting the use of synchronised sound. I am going to examine the
reasons why synchronised sound developed from a teleological, contextual, and technology
determinist approach. To conclude I will evaluate the impact synchronised sound had on the film
industry in America during the 1920s.
As Raymond Fielding stated films have never truly been silent films even before the introduction of
synchronised sound, there was never any such thing as a silent film at least as far as the audience was
concerned (Cameron, 1980, p. 3 4). Films were shown to audience s in vaudevilles and were often
imitations of other vaudeville acts. These films were played alongside music, often had a commentator
to helps the audience understand their narratives, and used instruments and actors to create sound
effects. Since films were never silent to begin with from a teleological approach you could argue that
synchronised sound was inevitable in the development of film because it just standardised and
mechanised the aural component (Neale, 1985, p. 93) that was already

Problems In Ancient Greece Essay
Many problems had occurred in Ancient Greece. There were also many great minds that were able to
overcome these problems and rise above the struggles. The people in Greece were not responding to
the historical forces that may have been upon them, and out of their control. Rather, they were the
people who had ideas and acted upon them. Therefore, changing history into what we know it as
today.
In 570 BCE, Cleisthenes set up the first democratic government in Athens. In 483 BCE, the people of
Athens had found silver in the Laurion Mines. Since Athens was a democracy, the citizens decided
that they wanted to split up the money between themselves. However, a man named Themistocles
suggested that they used the money to build ships, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Themistocles wanted to fight the Persians in the Strait of Salamis. Many people thought that he was
crazy for this. However, his plan worked. Athens achieved victory and broke up the Persian navy,
destroying nearly 200 ships. After this strategy was victorious, Themistocles was declared a
militaristic genius.
Themistocles was raised poor, with no typical aristocratic upbringing. He was nothing special, just a
typical Athenian citizen. He wasn t born into a rich, popular family. He simply worked with what he
had available to him at the time. Historical forces were not mysteriously working away in his mind,
giving him direction, inspiring him to be brilliant. He strategized on his own, and came up with a plan
that saved Athens from being pulverized by the Persian army. In 447 BCE, Pericles promoted a
massive reconstruction plan on a part of Athens that the Persians had destroyed in their savage of the
city state. He proposed the building of the Parthenon on the remains of an earlier temple on the
Acropolis. The proposal of the Parthenon pleased the citizens of Athens because it was a celebration
of Athenians achievements. It also pleased them because it served as a place of worship to the goddess
Athena. Except for the timber roof supports, the entire Parthenon was built with marble from the
quarries of Mt. Pentelicon. Not only did Pericles want to build this structure for the purpose of a
temple, he wanted people to remember him for generations to

Why Is The Holocaust Still Relevant Today
In today s world, people seem to worry about unnecessary things, like what they are going to wear or
even if their hair looks good. Children living during the Holocaust had much more important things to
worry about, like if they would survive. This inhumane carnage will haunt the survivors for the rest of
their lives. The Holocaust was one of the worst genocides this world has ever seen. The children of the
Holocaust were stripped from their beliefs, family, and endured the stress of wondering if they would
see another day, the fright of concentration camps, and the strength to survive this massacre.
When people mention the Holocaust, most people know about Adolf Hitler and how he killed all the
Jewish people, but in reality, people who weren t even Jews were murdered as well. This included
Romani (Gypsy) children, German children with physical and mental disabilities living in institutions,
Polish children, and children residing in the occupied Soviet Union (Children). Twins were even used
for medical experiments, and most of the time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Education systems stress this important part of history, mainly because it was so destructive and we
will never even begin to understand the importance of freedom. We all have the ability to live our own
lives, speak what we want, and fulfill what destinies we want to conquer. The children of the
Holocaust were stripped from their beliefs, family, and endured the stress of wondering if they would
see another day, the fright of concentration camps, and the strength to survive this massacre. Children
back then did not have the opportunity that us children have today. This disaster that will forever live
on could have easily been avoided if we just fought back. We all have a voice, and we need to use it.
We are all here fulfilling the dreams that the deceased children did not get to fulfill, and what dreams

Comparing Pride And Prejudice And Frankenstein
It is a truth universally acknowledged that Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice and Mary Shelley s
Frankenstein are very different books. They differ drastically in tone, style, and subject matter, but on
a deeper level, they do have some similarities, even beyond both featuring characters named
Elizabeth. Both works share a fundamentally similar message. In these novels, the authors use letters
to show the power of the written word in communication and how letters help to dispel the prideful
self absorption plaguing the protagonists. In both novels, prior to reading the letter, the protagonists,
Victor Frankenstein and Elizabeth Bennet, are prideful, vain, and self involved. Victor is isolating

Darcy, find that the only way to express themselves to the protagonist is through letters. Because
letters are already fully written, the protagonists cannot interrupt or counter a statement. The
conversation, for the first time, is fully under the control of the letter writer, not the protagonist.
Normally, Victor controls when he and Elizabeth speak, through his mood, words, travelling, or self
inflicted isolation. She even silences herself because of his influence, based on the assumption that she
does not have a right to burden Victor with her feelings when he is already so preoccupied with illness
and grief. She doesn t want him to leave, but again puts his opinions ahead of her own: My journey
had been my own suggestion, and Elizabeth therefore acquiesced, but she was filled with disquiet at
the idea of my suffering, away from her, the inroads of misery and grief. ... She longed to bid me
hasten my return; a thousand conflicting emotions rendered her mute as she bade me a tearful, silent
farewell (Shelley 159). However, by sending her letter, Elizabeth takes control for the first time,
asking if she is the true cause of his misery: Answer me, I conjure you by our mutual happiness, with
simple truth Do you not love another? ... I confess to you, my friend, that when I saw you last autumn
so unhappy, ... I could not help supposing that you might regret our connection and believe yourself
bound in honour to fulfil the wishes of your parents, although they opposed themselves to your
inclinations (192). She asks a question that could potentially hurt her, should he respond that, yes, he
would like to end their betrothal, but she asks the question anyway because he has not divulged other
possible reason for his misery. She knows that he will never tell her the root of his suffering when he
is in control of the conversation, knowing that it is possible that he is trying to spare her feelings, and

Effective And Efficient Use Of Investment Tax Incentives
Executive Summary
It has been observed from past experiences that there is ample room for effective and efficient use of
investment tax incentives in Australia. It was found that tax incentives are does not make much impact
on changing the investment climate and many times tax incentives turned out to be redundant that is,
investment would have been undertaken even without the incentives. The fiscal cost of tax incentives
can be high, reducing opportunities for other required spending like on infrastructure, education and
health care or any other sector.
Effective and efficient use of tax incentives for small businesses requires careful tax designed. Many
times government use income tax exemptions to attract investment or persuade for joint ventures to
attract investments. Good infrastructure, long term effective policies, economic stability etc. are
important for bringing investment. There is a need of have correct taxation policy to really have a
great impact on domestic small business.
Good governance of tax incentives is critical for small business growth. Transparency is necessity of
time to facilitate accountability, providing opportunities for opening business or for extracting
information for rent seekers and to curtail corruption. There are many stakeholders involved in the tax
incentive proposal approval but the best in the ministry of finance that enforced and monitored by the
tax administration. To grant tax incentives it should be based on rules rather than

Should Objects Be Taken In The Distant Past, Be Returned...
One of the major controversies confronting museums today is the issue of repatriation. Large
museums are constantly facing claims of object ownership made by so named source nations
(Merryman, 2009, 183), claiming that the objects constitute a part of their cultural heritage and should
be returned. There are, however, those who argue against repatriation, claiming that it does more harm
than good. Additionally, others believe that objects of cultural significance constitute a piece of the
culture of all humanity. I would argue that concern should rest on the objects and their well being.
Objects should be seen as pieces of the culture of the whole human race and preserved for scholarship
and future generations.
Museums like the British Museum hold objects from around the world that arrived at the museums
through theft or under other suspicious circumstances during the era of imperialism, an excellent
example being the Elgin Marbles (Appiah, 2009, 72 3). The question is, should objects, especially
those taken in the distant past, be returned to their places of origin? There are two arguments, one for
and one against repatriation. The first argument is made by the source nations that ... Show more

Further, having cultural identity gives an individual a sense of place and belonging in the grand
scheme of history. Nonetheless, as an archaeologist, I believe in object preservation and diverse
education. The safety of an object should be paramount because objects are the true tellers of history.
When objects are lost or damaged, history can be forgotten or changed and society cannot learn from
its past. Objects should be studied and presented to the public for cultural enrichment and education.
These objects serve a greater purpose as works of individuals, not just the collective people from

The Current Policies Of The Canadian Columbia
Income Assistance Rates in British Columbia: Why Maximum is Not Enough
Income Assistance rates in British Columbia have been stuck at a paltry maximum of $610 for a single
employable individual for the past 10 years. Although the cost of living has steadily increased, Income
Assistance rates have remained stagnant. The current social welfare policies adopted by the Canadian
Government in general and the provincial Government of British Columbia in particular are reflective
of the strong liberal political ideology that has taken root in Canadian society. A political belief system
that puts profit and economic growth above social equality and prosperity for all, is one that is in
desperate need of repair. The current policies that govern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Canada s acceptance of the welfare state was brief however, and the economic downturn of the 1970 s,
as well as right wing campaigns calling for an end to social programs saw massive cuts to the social
safety net so many Canadians depended on (p.46). It was believed that to combat economic stagnation
and see a return to profits, many social programs must be eliminated. During the 1980 s and 1990 s
government spending on social programs was drastically reduced, effectively dismantling much of the
welfare state (another book).
Furthermore, 1996 saw the end of the Canada Assistance Plan (CAP) (p.49) that was established in
1966 and helped to standardize and fund nationwide Social Assistance (p.46). This program was a
consolidation of federal and provincial programs, with financial responsibility shared 50/50 between
federal and provincial governments and among many things, saw that anyone determined to be in need
would receive funding without a work requirement imposed to receive assistance (another book
p.113). CAP and Established Programs Financing (EPF) were combined into the Canadian Health and
Social Transfer (CHST), this merger eliminated many of the requirements laid out in Canadian
Assistance Plan by the federal government that required the provinces to uphold certain

Plauchut s account also seems to be a result of carefully chosen information from sources other than

Team Dynamics
Team Dynamics Conflict Resolution Strategies
People work in groups or teams everyday whether in their career, education, political organization,
church, or any other social setting. Conflict while working in teams or groups is inevitable. When
taking people of different backgrounds, personalities, moral, and ethical beliefs and putting them
together in a group, conflict will arise. The key to achieving your team goals is to construct and
conquer your goals with keeping the greater good of the team in mind. Conflict as it arises should be
combated and abated through swift and thorough resolution techniques. When dealt with properly
conflict resolution can give rise to a cohesive and productive team.
What Is Conflict? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conflict arises from various sources in the team setting (Capozzoli, 1995). The most common causes
of conflict are values, attitudes, needs, expectations, perceptions, resources, and personalities. As we
are all raised with different values, morals come into play when the team issue deals directly or
indirectly with ones values, morals, or ethics. Conflicting attitudes can bring about problems as two or
more team members prove to have differing goals in mind. Individual needs can cause rifts within a
team when they are not satisfied. The expectations of team members are not the same on how the goal
will be met. We all have different perceptions of life situation and interpret them differently. The lack
of resources needed to complete a task can cause conflict. Differing personalities play a major role in
team conflict.
Types of Conflict
There are many types of conflict; some are beneficial while others are detrimental. All types of
conflict fall into three major categories (Engleberg, Wynn, and Schuttler, 2003; Stewart, Manz, and
Sims, 1999). Relationship oriented conflict, also known as affective conflict, is brought about when
team members experience interpersonal incompatibilities. Relationship conflict is usually detrimental
as team members have different perceptions of communication and social skills. Whereas Task
oriented conflict, also referred to as cognitive conflict or procedural conflict, occurs when team
members disagree about

A Case for Medicare Covering ESRD
How can a low income sick person pay for an expensive treatment especially when they are not

they may encounter in life, but certainly not everyone has such funds. When people are diagnosed
with end stage renal disease (ESRD), the health provider sadly notifies them that they will not be able
to perform most of the things that they were used to doing. ESRD patients must adjust to complete

The Enlightenment Period In America
Out of this week s reading, the one thing that I came to admire was the enlightenment period. The
Enlightenment period began because of small groups. Men would meet in coffeehouses and the
women would meet in salons. People could slow down, talk and dream. This caused a movement of
people taking their dreams and ideas to a reality. This movement sparked the future of the world. This
began the Scientific Revolution and the Glorious Revolution. With havening a movement of this scale,
it could not be contained to one place. It expanded to France and eventually the Americas. The
advancement in technology cased the western world to expand and lead to the form of the Americas.
People began to travel based on their enlightenment and need for freedom.

Research Paper On The Angelus Millet
L Angélus, also known as The Angelus, was painted and completed between 1857 and 1859 Jean
François Millet. Millet is most known for his scenes of rural farmers. The Angelus, a fifty five and a
half by sixty six centimeter oil on canvas painting followed this theme. It was commissioned by the
wealthy patron Thomas Gold Appleton. It was never collected by Appleton, instead it was passed
around for nearly forty years until it was donated by Alfred Chauchard to the French State in 1909. It
then was placed in the Louve until 1986 when it was transferred to the Musée d Orsay, also in Paris.

This is a very prestigious award given by the French State. Only two years later he and his family fled
Barbizon due to the Franco Prussian War and did not return until the following year. Four years after
returning, he and his wife, Catherine, held a religious wedding ceremony; they originally had a civil

Millet the main character in his play Is He Dead? (1898). Millet s work largely centered around the

The Meaning Of Life In Siddhartha
iddhartha LAP
Topic #8
Abid Ahmad
Everything we do in the world is absolutely pointless. We as humans are irrelevant specks in the vast
universe that go about our repetitive lives for no apparent reason. At the end of the day, it makes no
difference how much good or bad we do in the world. This is the ignorant view of the world that fails
to see the perfect harmony in which we all live our lives. The redundant cycles that we try so hard to
get away from are part of our overarching connectedness as humans. As parts of a whole, all of us
have a role to play in making our lives better for ourselves and others. Our role is the very meaning of
life, and we should embrace it wholeheartedly. The novel Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse stresses this
cyclical unification through various circular constructions throughout Siddhartha s life. Siddhartha had
to deal with many individual stages of his life that seemed pointless. These cycles almost drove him to
the point of suicide, but he was saved by the river which acted as a symbol for his entire life, as a
united whole. This was the gateway to his attainment of enlightenment, allowing him to feel closer to
everyone around him. Siddhartha began as an affluent Brahmin s son, coveted by all close to him. His
family and friends greatly admired the level of intuition and intellect that Siddhartha had possessed.
Govinda, his best friend, constantly adored him and followed in his footsteps. In this life, Siddhartha
began the

responding to a pandemic disease that is spreading across countries. We were given different steps and

information to where the disease was spreading, who was being affected, and what kinds of things are

Such a scenario allowed us as health care professionals to critically think what would be in the best
interest for a large population in a crisis and how we can bring relief to them. One thing that surprised
me was how it was a bit difficult to critically think what we would actually do through type of a crisis.
Through my nursing perspective, I was unsure how I would manage the care of patients during a crisis
outside of the hospital setting. It was interesting how each one of us had different dilemmas of how we
would deal with this situation. One thing that I will take away from this, is that it s important to
maintain ethical care for those who are being cared during a disaster even when privacy and
confidentiality may lack in such a situation. The second thing that I ll take away is how to collaborate
with team members and how to put our ideas together to manage to support the health and well being
of our patients. Lastly, I will take away how during a disaster/pandemic can affect our roles as health
care professionals. The role of a pharmacist, nurse, or doctor can interchange through a crisis when the
needs of for a population increases; where we need to take different roles the benefit the interest of the
population. My attitude towards a pandemic situation has changed as now I m aware of the importance
of critical thinking and collaborating with others to better

Native American Modern Art
Modern is a term that can hold many different meanings. In order for something to be modern it must
be created or inspired by the experiences of living in modernity. A period of social, political, and
economic change that began in the eighteenth century. Since the definition of modern is so broad it
allows for lots of controversy about whether or not something is necessarily modern. When it comes

South Dakota, portrays Sioux dancers and riders as explosive fractures of color. This painting is very
abstract with bright colors and sharp geometric shapes. The styles used in the painting are very similar
to that of many other European modern artists. Regardless of this neither the modernist movement nor
the traditional indian painters accepted Howe s work. When Howe attempted to enter his work in the
1958 Philbrook Annual he was told that his paintings did not represent Indian style. He explained that
though the image may not look like it hold traditional meaning that these explosive figures were
connected to the Sioux trickster and shape shifter Iktomi, and thus were influenced by traditional
Native American culture. Howe also explained to the curator that Native American Art is much more
than pretty stylized pictures and that Indian art must develop in the same way that European art

Explain The Scope And Scope Of Operations Management
1.1 OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT
Operations management can be defined as managing the available resources in the best possible way
that are dedicated to the production process and to have highest level of efficiency in an organization.
Operations managers are the people who are responsible for managing the resources and that guide the
system by decision making. The operations function of an organization is responsible for
understanding customer demands and fulfil their needs through the delivery of products and services.
Operations management can also be referred as a business practice that are used to generate profit for
an organization with the use of optimal resources. It includes function such as material requirement
planning, managing purchases, storage, logistic and evaluation of processes. The focus is on efficiency
and effectiveness while performing these functions. Thus it can be concluded that operations

Human And Non Human Primates
Language is used to distinguish humans from others (Zuberbühler, 2014). Human communication has
formally derived from past primate communication systems (Ghazanfar Eliades, 2014). Humans
express themselves in verbal, gestural, and written forms (Zuberbühler, 2014). Human and non human
primates have totally diverse forms of communication systems (Ghazanfar Eliades, 2014). Speech has
evolved from non human primates to its current compound state that humans utilize present day
(Zuberbühler, 2014)
Non human primates have abilities to communicate with others when in danger for recipients to
differentiate their calls (Ghazanfar Eliades, 2014). It is necessary for a primate to be able to learn and
distinguish any communication signals for natural selection (Ghazanfar Eliades, 2014). Distinct alarm
calls vary in some species due to different situations (Coye, Ouattara, Zuberbühler Lemasson, 2015).
Non human primate callings are limited because of the lack of acoustic variation available (Coye,
2015). However, recent studies have shown that there is a combination of basic acoustic parts that
have been made into more complex vocal arrangements (Coye, 2015). Some individuals are willing to
help unrelated individuals if those individuals have had positive experiences with them in the past
(Ghazanfar Eliades, 2014). Sometimes, individuals would ignore another individual s signal who
sounded unrelated (Ghazanfar Eliades, 2014).
Primates responses are vocal and visual

Harm Reduction Paper
Harm Reduction paper
Randy Jones
Substance Abuse Counselling
January 18, 2012
This paper will discuss the principles and position of harm reduction. It will also examine the public
perception of the user, which has created an ineffective philosophy. Most importantly, my paper seeks
to recognize the harm of harm reduction. This discussion will highlight the lack of hope it creates in
the user. Harm reduction needs to be addressed so that a long term solution for the user can be
implemented, not just a quick fix Band Aid solution. If caregivers, counselors and the general public
do not hold more of an abstinence position on recovery they will eventually do users a disservice. I
will touch on needle exchange, safe injection sites, wet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea behind the creation of safe injection sites is that society can t cure or get rid of the drug
problem. While harm reduction may work for those not effected directly with the damages of drug
use, it encourages out of sight, out of mind compartmentalization of people who unconsciously don t
want to help the addict. This results in the addict staying in his addiction. It seems to me that such an
approach is much like facilitating drug use, which is illogical. The fact is we can t stop rape either but
we don t resort to lowering the consequences and give ways to do it. There is a concern that the users
sharing straws to snort cocaine will spread Hep C . So, should we also create a straw exchange
program? There will always be something that will cause harm with drug use.
We also have to ask if we are in line with Canada s Drug Strategy definition of harm reduction, which,
in general, is to lower sickness, death, social misery, crime, violence and economic costs. Has it
reduced the harms associated with alcohol and drugs to individuals, families and communities or is the
drug still in control? Some effects of drugs are too powerful to manage. Paranoia, a common effect of
cocaine use, can cause violent and erratic behavior. Sometimes users experience coke bugs :
imaginary bugs crawling over their skin. Heroin causes euphoria, which is followed quickly by
sadness,

Relationship Between Nick And Morgan
Nick and Morgan walked into their third therapy session of the month and still didn t feel like it was
working. They were having communication issues and didn t know how to rekindle their relationship
in their now busy schedules. Nick and Morgan have been in a relationship for three years. They met
playing soccer and became lovers at first sight. Everything they did involved soccer, it was basically
their life. Last year Nick tore his ACL and is no longer able to play the sport he once loved. Morgan
however continued to play soccer. Since Nick wasn t able to play soccer anymore he focused his
energy on his career as a film writer. He is usually working late hours or is out of town at a film
festival getting inspiration for his work. Morgan works but hates her job. She s jealous that Nick gets
to enjoy his job and is successful at it. She is upset that she doesn t have that same experience at her
workplace as he does at his. Nick is jealous of Morgan that she gets to play soccer every weekend
while he can no longer play due to his injury. For this reason, Nick does not attend Morgan s games to
watch her play, and barely supports her at all. Nick and Morgan had very different upbringings. While
Nick grew up as an only child, Morgan has three sisters who she is still in contact with multiple times
a week. Throughout his childhood, Nick s parents were busy and weren t very talkative so he kept to
himself majority of the time. On the other hand, Morgan was raised with

Distributing Organs
Distributing the organs among the patients should be done in an ethical way. Not everyone in need of
an organ transplant gets what is needed for him because there is a shortage in organ availability.
Actually, there should be a fair distribution plan and everyone should be aware of it. Most likely there
are two types of distributive rightness. The first type is called equal access, which means the available
organs should be fairly divided among the waited patients no matter the sex or the race, and the
waiting time length should be considered. The first on the list be treated first. Another type of
distributive justice is called maximum benefit, which means that the doctor give the priority to the
patient who the doctor sees that he/she will live longer or the transplantation will be successful. It is a
way to avoid wasting the organs because they are rare. UNOS encourages the transplant centers in the
United States to use those methods in distributive the organs: the medical need, probability of success,
and time on the waiting list. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many arguments that shows it has no fairness between the patients simply because no one
has the ability to determine how long the transplanted patient will live after the surgery. How many
years the organ will function. I believe that the second type is an unethical issue in the distribution
because there is no equality between people, and it gives its back to the older people, and not giving
them the opportunity to get the organ they are needed for. as a result, they may lose their

Acute Withdrawal Research Paper
Addiction the destroyer of families, friendships, and even human lives is one of the most prevalent
evils to plague our rotting society. It leaves man either a slave to substance or a walking corpse. When
users reach the end of the line, and realize their actions are in no way helpful, they may seek
rehabilitation. During rehabilitation, addicts may go through withdrawal. Withdrawal is both an
important and demanding time for recovering addicts. Withdrawal as a whole, and moreover its two
stages, acute and post acute withdrawal, is by no means an easy trial to endure.
Withdrawal occurs when a person stops using an agent such as alcohol, narcotics, or any other
addictive substance. This stage of recovery typically results in a number of uncomfortable side effects.
Common symptoms experienced by recovering addicts include depression, seclusion, anxiety,
insomnia, petulance, perspiration, nausea, and tremors. Contrary to what would be assumed,
alcoholics actually have one of the most dangerous withdrawal periods. Along with the previously
listed symptoms, they also risk seizures, heart attacks, strokes, and hallucinations. Despite the
obstacles faced during the withdrawal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As is the case with most recoveries, the beginning can easily be considered the worst part. The exact
length of acute withdrawal is rather inconsistent, as would be expected, seeing as how people are
fundamentally different. Despite the overall irregularity, this phase typically lasts up to a month or so.
As is the case with the length of this period, the symptoms vary greatly from person to person. Acute
withdrawal seems to be the time span when the majority of the physical symptoms are experienced,
albeit one person generally will not be exposed to all of them. Acute withdrawal may leave an addict
thinking that all the effort they put into recovery is futile, but they hold out hope that one day they will
be able to live a normal

The, National Museum Of African Art
On October 9, 2015 I went to the Smithsonian, National Museum of African Art along with attending
the Million Man March down in Washington D.C. The experiences were wonderful and I was very
excited to be at both events. While at the museum I took two tours one at 10 am that was led by a
woman named Nkechi Obi. She talked about docent African Arts. The next one was shortly after at11
am that was led by a teen ambassador named Nicholas Stewart, who was very intelligent. He talked
about numerous pieces throughout the museum that had some significance to younger minds so I
found that very helpful. After the tour I spent some time down at the mall in DC in which faced the
Capitol. This was the Million Man March that was a very popular event that brought out many people.
I would describe both events as lectures that were powerful and time put to good use. The reason I
chose to go to the African Art Museum is because I have been there before and I enjoy my time when I
go. The tours at the museum consisted of talks about certain pieces in the museum that fell in a
category the tourist wanted to focus on. Nkechi Obi was my first tour guide and the title of her tour
was Docent African Arts . Her goal throughout the tour was to show pieces of artwork that showed
what Africans may have gone through in the past in slavery. One piece that she focused on that I want
to highlight was Southern Landscape by Walter Williams Roots. In this piece there various things

Rauner Education Essay
Illinois Governor Rauner Education Policy In August of 2017, Governor Rauner signed into law new
changes to state funding for education. His goal was to treat all low income families equitably and
fairly. By doing so, he proposed that school funding should be dispersed throughout the state rather
than just given to Chicago district (Runge 1). He also wanted more of the money to go to the
classroom rather than funding the broken pension system which is what the original policy was doing.
They finally came to an agreement on August 31st. This new plan not only focused on dispersing the
funds throughout the state, but it also reduced property taxes and allowed for a tax credit for those that

Their income should not keep them from the right of education. Not only is this bill affecting the
children, but it is also affecting the parents and teachers. For example, the teachers don t have to worry
about schools not being able to open due to a shortage of money from the state. Also, parents with low
income no longer have the stress of their children not getting the same education as those with higher
income. Education is a unifying topic and should not be dividing our country. This bill is considered to
be historic bringing opportunity back to all Illinois students. This bill brought a lot of rise from
legislators and interest groups. The Democrats and Republicans could not come to an agreement for
far too long. Democrats were fighting for more funding for all districts, but they also wanted CPS to
get $286 millon more for pensions and general state aid (Dardick 3). Republicans were fighting to take
away grant money from Chicago and spread it throughout other districts. This would mean that the
schools in the city would see a $38 million cut or $177 million more funds all depending on their
pension (Dardick 3). Some worried that money was going to be taken away from Chicago, but that did
not end up being the case. Not only did the funds get spread out amongst the state, but Chicago
actually ended up benefiting from the new plan as well. Rauner was accused by many that he did not
care about the lives of low income children of Chicago since he said Chicago was

Essay about Life Changing Trip
In the summer of 2006 I was inspired to do something that inherently would never have even crossed
my mind. I was born and bred to be risk averse. My parents, the resolute material providers that they
are, taught me not to fend for myself, but rather to avoid confrontation altogether. Their eastern culture
centric and old fashioned way of child rearing has had a profound effect on the way I lived my life.
However, their penchant for negative reinforcement and their inability to show physical affection
never impeded me on having a fulfilling and moderately successful life. One great void, or what I
perceived as such, was my lack of worldly experience. I was eligible to apply for a US passport for at
least five years before I finally decided ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

having spent most of my formative years trying to be like everyone else around me, I never allowed
my inner self to grow. I was never encouraged by my parents to be inquisitive, to explore the
unknown, and to dare to be different. I have no doubt they were all of those things themselves,
because they are both extraordinary persons, having achieved measurable success by capturing the
American Dream. When I sat down with them over Thanksgiving break, I interviewed them and
confirmed that what they wanted was the best for me The path of least resistance (1) and they felt
obliged to provide that path by shielding and guiding me away from the unknown, even though they
endured and prospered from their worldly experiences. In 2006 I finally decided to take a chance and
dared to be different. This led me to a chain of decisions that literally brings me here today. First, my
employer propositioned me to move to New York City to work for our New York office. Had they
asked a year prior, I probably would have declined the offer due to my fear of the unknown and risk
aversive nature, but not in 2006. With little consultation and input from my parents I took that leap of
faith. Coinciding with this major decision was a dear friend s wedding in London in the

The Threat Of The Atomic Bombs
Devastation Justified: How the U.S. was Right in Dropping the Atomic Bombs In 1945, President
Truman had to make one of the toughest decisions a president has ever been faced with. This decision,
of course, being whether to drop the atomic bombs on Japanese cities, not drop the bombs at all, or do
a demonstration by dropping a bomb in the ocean near Tokyo. Truman eventually chose to drop the
atomic bombs on both Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August of 1945. This choice to drop the atomic
bombs was right because these bombings assisted in slowing the expansion of the Soviet Union,
changed the Japanese never give up mentality, and prevented the loss of many American and Japanese
lives. For a start, the use of the atomic bombs helped slow the ... Show more content on

On top of curtailing the expansion of the Soviet Union, dropping the atomic bombs induced the
Japanese to give up their never surrender mentality. To begin with, in the battles of the Pacific War, the
Japanese would always continue to fight as long as any soldiers were still alive. Also, wounded
Japanese soldiers often attempted to use grenades to kill any enemy soldiers and medics who came
near them, and they frequently used grenades to commit suicide rather than going through the disgrace
of being taken alive. These accounts of the lack of quit of the Japanese soldiers displayed how they
had no intention of surrendering to enemy forces no matter how bad the situation was. Additionally, in
April of 1945, Japan s government initiated a policy known as Ketsugo, which trained all Japanese
civilians, regardless of age or gender, on how to make their own weapons to help fight against
invading soldiers. Japan s Ketsugo policy was meaningful since it illustrated the nation s willingness
to fight and die as a nation before giving in. In contrast, following the bombing of Nagasaki, Hirohito,
Japan s Emperor, impressed upon his country s Cabinet and Supreme Council the need for their
agreement to the Potsdam Proclamation. This

The Effects Of Gangster Rap And Appropriation Of The West...
As N.W.A fell into the laps of the mainstream target audience: white, middle class, suburban males
and their angst filled teens, more problems began to arise regarding the misconceptions of gangster
rap and appropriation of the experience of black men in low income cities. Most of the rap that this
demographic would hear on the radio was the lighter Pop Rap of MC Hammer and The Fresh Prince
and Jazzy Jeff. According to GZA, the founder of the Wu Tang Clan, the label (Gangster Rap) was
created by the media to limit what we can say. We just deliver the truth in a brutal fashion...They don t
like that, so you hear ban this, ban that . We attack people s emotions. It s a real live show that brings
out the inside in people . But many people outside the scene just associated it with the violent rivalry
between the East Coast s Bad Boy Records and the West Coast s Death Row records that ultimately
resulted in the mysterious murders of The Notorious B.I.G. and 2Pac. However, when Efil4zaggin hit
number #1 on Billboard charts, the genre became more widely acknowledged and accepted by
mainstream audiences. Although, in a general sense, Fuck Tha Police was relatable to the Every Man
in it s dissatisfaction with unfairness it cannot be separated completely from it s specific context.
Although facing discrimination and brutality at the hands of cops was a common experience for
minorities, suburban America still refused to believe that this bias was happening. This track

Plato s Allegory Of The Cave
By Achieving this awareness, they come to perceive reality differently; by broadening the horizon of
their perception, they discover more easily in their background awareness the dialectical relations
between the two dimensions of reality, (Freire, 115). Paulo Freire s, Pedagogy of the Oppressed, was
written over three thousand years after Plato and his own work, The Republic, but the two contain
very similar messages. Freire proposes to his readers that the oppressed are being dehumanized. With
this dehumanization follows a lack of education and the oppressed peoples understanding of

Like Freire, Plato is addressing the issues of oppression and transformation, and how it affects
humanity as well as fears associated with freedom once the oppressed is liberated. In Plato s allegory
the transformation does not just happen. An initial cause was required to allow for the man to ascend
to the opening of the cave; this initial cause is a teacher. Guiding him further back out the cave than
anyone had ever tried before. Allowing him to finally see beyond the shadows and echos he was so

The Problem Of Energy Production

a century and a half ago, nothing has been more pivotal to mankind s rise to power as the apex species
of planet earth. Had our ancestors not discovered the potential of using million year old plant and
animal remains to create combustible power, the world would look very different. There is no denying
that energy production is one of, if not, the most important developments in human history. After a

There are dozens, if not hundreds of oil and coal alternatives that are being considered, however,
while many options look promising in theory the overwhelming majority of them such as: wind, solar,
and biofuel just aren t economically feasible on a global scale. Nuclear power is growing in popularity
around the world for its extreme potency and zero emissions, but advancements in the field are few
and far between due to the bad stigma that surrounds nuclear power. This negative stigma stems from
its military roots and its potential for catastrophic disaster, which has become very real in the wake of
Japan s recent natural disasters. The answer to kicking our oil habit may actually be much simpler than
any of these other alternatives. The key to securing our energy independence may have been under our
feet the entire time we were bending to the oil cartel s (OPEC s) every demand.
Here in America we have been sitting atop a goldmine of natural gas wells that rank among the most
abundant in the world. While natural gas is by no means a renewable source of energy, reserves are
much more plentiful in America than oil. Natural gas also burns much cleaner than coal making it
friendlier to our heavily burdened atmosphere. Current estimates put our nation s natural gas supply
somewhere around twenty five hundred trillion cubic feet of technically recoverable natural gas from
all sources (Deutch, 2011). Approximately six hundred to seven hundred cubic feet lies

Employee Engagement and Organizational Success
Leaders also try to achieve the same quality for their own status, which allows them to pursue greater
strength, achieve personal goals and future endeavours. According to a recent study conducted by
Psychometrics Canada a pioneer in research assessment, has mentioned in one of its report that
employee engagement in the organisation plays a major role in the success of any organisation.
Accordingly it says that the best way to increase the relation is by working out a strategy that builds
positive environment and culture relations between the workers and ensuring a good leader to fit for
the purpose. Leaders in the organisation can try to achieve a better employee engagement by listening
to followers opinions, communicating his vision with a clarity, providing and developing strategies
and solution for the success, and finally recognising the ability of the followers and praising their
contributions. Thisaspect of leadership is displayed by general feedback, generating ideas and possess
enthusiastic in requesting for help (Bradley P. Owens, 2013). One example of this leadership quality is
described by DAVID J. BOBB(David J B, 2013) in his book saying following servant leadership is

though considered to be a man of high temper and showing excess pride in his capabilities and

  • 2. 3.3 Explain How Built-In (Or Automatic) Stabilizers Work Week 6 Homework Solutions Question 3 Explain how built in (or automatic) stabilizers work. What are the differences between proportional, progressive, and regressive tax systems as they relate to an economy s built in stability? Answer In a phrase, net tax revenues vary directly with GDP. When GDP is rising, so are tax collections, both income taxes and sales taxes. At the same time, government payouts transfer payments such as unemployment compensation and welfare are decreasing. Since net taxes are taxes less transfer payments, net taxes definitely rise with GDP, which dampens the rise in GDP. On the other hand, when GDP drops in a recession, tax collections slow down or actually diminish while transfer payments rise quickly. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Meanwhile, other factors may change, rendering inappropriate a particular fiscal policy. Nevertheless, discretionary fiscal policy is a valuable tool in preventing severe recession or severe demand pull inflation. A political business cycle is the concept that politicians are more interested in reelection than in stabilizing the economy. Before the election, they enact tax cuts and spending increases to please voters even though this may fuel inflation. After the election, they apply the brakes to restrain inflation; the economy will slow and unemployment will rise. In this view the political process creates economic instability. A decrease in tax rates might be enacted to stimulate consumer spending. If households receive the tax cut but expect it to be reversed in the near future, they may hesitate to increase their spending. Believing that tax rates will rise again (and possibly concerned that they will rise to rates higher than before the tax cut), households may instead save their additional after tax income in anticipation of needing to pay taxes in the future. The crowding out effect is the reduction in investment spending caused by the increase in interest rates arising from an increase in government spending, financed by borrowing. • 3. How Sound Developed Changed America During The 1920s ... In this essay I will explain how sound developed in American cinema in the 1920s, beginning with silent films in the 1910s. I will explore the development of sound systems from large corporations in America, and the failed experiments with sound beforehand. I will analyse the use of these sound systems by Warner Brothers and Fox, the first film studios to adopt sound, and explore how this led to the Big Five film studios also adopting the use of synchronised sound. I am going to examine the reasons why synchronised sound developed from a teleological, contextual, and technology determinist approach. To conclude I will evaluate the impact synchronised sound had on the film industry in America during the 1920s. As Raymond Fielding stated films have never truly been silent films even before the introduction of synchronised sound, there was never any such thing as a silent film at least as far as the audience was concerned (Cameron, 1980, p. 3 4). Films were shown to audience s in vaudevilles and were often imitations of other vaudeville acts. These films were played alongside music, often had a commentator to helps the audience understand their narratives, and used instruments and actors to create sound effects. Since films were never silent to begin with from a teleological approach you could argue that synchronised sound was inevitable in the development of film because it just standardised and mechanised the aural component (Neale, 1985, p. 93) that was already ... • 4. Problems In Ancient Greece Essay Many problems had occurred in Ancient Greece. There were also many great minds that were able to overcome these problems and rise above the struggles. The people in Greece were not responding to the historical forces that may have been upon them, and out of their control. Rather, they were the people who had ideas and acted upon them. Therefore, changing history into what we know it as today. In 570 BCE, Cleisthenes set up the first democratic government in Athens. In 483 BCE, the people of Athens had found silver in the Laurion Mines. Since Athens was a democracy, the citizens decided that they wanted to split up the money between themselves. However, a man named Themistocles suggested that they used the money to build ships, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Themistocles wanted to fight the Persians in the Strait of Salamis. Many people thought that he was crazy for this. However, his plan worked. Athens achieved victory and broke up the Persian navy, destroying nearly 200 ships. After this strategy was victorious, Themistocles was declared a militaristic genius. Themistocles was raised poor, with no typical aristocratic upbringing. He was nothing special, just a typical Athenian citizen. He wasn t born into a rich, popular family. He simply worked with what he had available to him at the time. Historical forces were not mysteriously working away in his mind, giving him direction, inspiring him to be brilliant. He strategized on his own, and came up with a plan that saved Athens from being pulverized by the Persian army. In 447 BCE, Pericles promoted a massive reconstruction plan on a part of Athens that the Persians had destroyed in their savage of the city state. He proposed the building of the Parthenon on the remains of an earlier temple on the Acropolis. The proposal of the Parthenon pleased the citizens of Athens because it was a celebration of Athenians achievements. It also pleased them because it served as a place of worship to the goddess Athena. Except for the timber roof supports, the entire Parthenon was built with marble from the quarries of Mt. Pentelicon. Not only did Pericles want to build this structure for the purpose of a temple, he wanted people to remember him for generations to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(avalanche http://soundbible.com/suggest.php?q=flood x=0 y=0) The resulting flood caused four deaths and destroyed most of the park, including three natural springs and three bridges. The damage was estimated at over $1,769,000. Some of the park was restored as a WPA project and more restoration is ongoing. Many people wonder about the location of the springs in Colorado Springs. They were not the springs which were destroyed in the flood, but generally refer to springs either in nearby Manitou Springs or Monument. There is one aboveground spring in the park, although it has been capped. It is located not far from the 13 Colonies Grove and is named Tahama Springs after Zebulon Pike s guide and friend, a Sioux chief. The trails adjacent to Monument Creek were regularly used by native animals and people, well before the first Europeans arrived on the scene. Later, this was one of the first trails followed by early European explorers and fur trappers. Zebulon Pike followed the waters of Fountain Creek and its tributary, Monument Creek, north from Pueblo to what is now Colorado Springs in 1806. • 6. Why Is The Holocaust Still Relevant Today In today s world, people seem to worry about unnecessary things, like what they are going to wear or even if their hair looks good. Children living during the Holocaust had much more important things to worry about, like if they would survive. This inhumane carnage will haunt the survivors for the rest of their lives. The Holocaust was one of the worst genocides this world has ever seen. The children of the Holocaust were stripped from their beliefs, family, and endured the stress of wondering if they would see another day, the fright of concentration camps, and the strength to survive this massacre. When people mention the Holocaust, most people know about Adolf Hitler and how he killed all the Jewish people, but in reality, people who weren t even Jews were murdered as well. This included Romani (Gypsy) children, German children with physical and mental disabilities living in institutions, Polish children, and children residing in the occupied Soviet Union (Children). Twins were even used for medical experiments, and most of the time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We all have the ability to live our own lives, speak what we want, and fulfill what destinies we want to conquer. The children of the Holocaust were stripped from their beliefs, family, and endured the stress of wondering if they would see another day, the fright of concentration camps, and the strength to survive this massacre. Children back then did not have the opportunity that us children have today. This disaster that will forever live on could have easily been avoided if we just fought back. They differ drastically in tone, style, and subject matter, but on a deeper level, they do have some similarities, even beyond both featuring characters named Elizabeth. Both works share a fundamentally similar message. In these novels, the authors use letters to show the power of the written word in communication and how letters help to dispel the prideful self absorption plaguing the protagonists. Large museums are constantly facing claims of object ownership made by so named source nations (Merryman, 2009, 183), claiming that the objects constitute a part of their cultural heritage and should be returned. There are, however, those who argue against repatriation, claiming that it does more harm than good. Additionally, others believe that objects of cultural significance constitute a piece of the culture of all humanity. I would argue that concern should rest on the objects and their well being. Objects should be seen as pieces of the culture of the whole human race and preserved for scholarship and future generations. Museums like the British Museum hold objects from around the world that arrived at the museums through theft or under other suspicious circumstances during the era of imperialism, an excellent example being the Elgin Marbles (Appiah, 2009, 72 3). We as humans are irrelevant specks in the vast universe that go about our repetitive lives for no apparent reason. At the end of the day, it makes no difference how much good or bad we do in the world. This is the ignorant view of the world that fails to see the perfect harmony in which we all live our lives. The redundant cycles that we try so hard to get away from are part of our overarching connectedness as humans. As parts of a whole, all of us have a role to play in making our lives better for ourselves and others. Our role is the very meaning of life, and we should embrace it wholeheartedly. The novel Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse stresses this cyclical unification through various circular constructions throughout Siddhartha s life. Siddhartha had to deal with many individual stages of his life that seemed pointless. These cycles almost drove him to the point of suicide, but he was saved by the river which acted as a symbol for his entire life, as a united whole. This was the gateway to his attainment of enlightenment, allowing him to feel closer to everyone around him. Siddhartha began as an affluent Brahmin s son, coveted by all close to him. I would describe both events as lectures that were powerful and time put to good use. The reason I chose to go to the African Art Museum is because I have been there before and I enjoy my time when I go. The tours at the museum consisted of talks about certain pieces in the museum that fell in a category the tourist wanted to focus on. Nkechi Obi was my first tour guide and the title of her tour was Docent African Arts . Her goal throughout the tour was to show pieces of artwork that showed what Africans may have gone through in the past in slavery. One piece that she focused on that I want to highlight was Southern Landscape by Walter Williams Roots. In this piece there various things going on in the photo. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Rauner Education Essay Illinois Governor Rauner Education Policy In August of 2017, Governor Rauner signed into law new changes to state funding for education. His goal was to treat all low income families equitably and fairly. By doing so, he proposed that school funding should be dispersed throughout the state rather than just given to Chicago district (Runge 1). He also wanted more of the money to go to the classroom rather than funding the broken pension system which is what the original policy was doing. They finally came to an agreement on August 31st. This new plan not only focused on dispersing the funds throughout the state, but it also reduced property taxes and allowed for a tax credit for those that donate to private school scholarship funds (Hall ... Not only is this bill affecting the children, but it is also affecting the parents and teachers. For example, the teachers don t have to worry about schools not being able to open due to a shortage of money from the state. Also, parents with low income no longer have the stress of their children not getting the same education as those with higher income. Education is a unifying topic and should not be dividing our country. This bill is considered to be historic bringing opportunity back to all Illinois students. This bill brought a lot of rise from legislators and interest groups. The Democrats and Republicans could not come to an agreement for far too long. Democrats were fighting for more funding for all districts, but they also wanted CPS to get $286 millon more for pensions and general state aid (Dardick 3). Republicans were fighting to take away grant money from Chicago and spread it throughout other districts. This would mean that the schools in the city would see a $38 million cut or $177 million more funds all depending on their pension (Dardick 3). Some worried that money was going to be taken away from Chicago, but that did not end up being the case. Not only did the funds get spread out amongst the state, but Chicago actually ended up benefiting from the new plan as well. Rauner was accused by many that he did not care about the lives of low income children of Chicago since he said Chicago was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Boeing D-340 Pointer Bell Boeing conceived the D 340 Pointer TiltRotor UAV in 1986 as part of the a Bell Helicopter Textron and Boeing Helicopter TiltRotor Teaming Agreement to develop a V/STOL short range surveillance and reconnaissance drone. Development of the D 340 proceeded throughout 1987. The Pointer made its first public appearance at Farnborough in September 1988 and flew for the first time (albeit poorly using Boeing flight controls) on November 21, 1988. But the partnership ended in September 1989 when Boeing dropped out of the program after only 12½ hours of flight trials and 40 hours of wind tunnel testing. The design reduced overall length during transport and storage. The nose section mounted using hinges to permit easy access to the avionics and other mission equipment. The center section incorporated the wing box, fuel tanks engine and landing gear. Because of its dual, hover and conventional aircraft flight requirements, Burt designed a complex structural arrangement. The Allison C20 gas turbine engine, attached to a combining transmission was integrated into the center fuselage. Drive shafts from the combining transmission pass through the center of the wing and connect to transmissions (Bell 206 tail rotor gear boxes) in nacelles at each wing tip. The cantilevered wing box experienced very diverse structural loads during hover and conventional forward flight, and an additional challenge required the wing box wet fuel tank preserve the dry integrity of the transmission drive shaft conduits. • 31. Essay about Life Changing Trip In the summer of 2006 I was inspired to do something that inherently would never have even crossed my mind. I was born and bred to be risk averse. My parents, the resolute material providers that they are, taught me not to fend for myself, but rather to avoid confrontation altogether. Their eastern culture centric and old fashioned way of child rearing has had a profound effect on the way I lived my life. However, their penchant for negative reinforcement and their inability to show physical affection never impeded me on having a fulfilling and moderately successful life. One great void, or what I perceived as such, was my lack of worldly experience. I was eligible to apply for a US passport for at least five years before I finally decided ... I often wonder what type of person I would have been had I stayed in Taiwan and grew up without the rigors and challenges that come with blending into a new culture. Only in hindsight do I realize that having spent most of my formative years trying to be like everyone else around me, I never allowed my inner self to grow. I was never encouraged by my parents to be inquisitive, to explore the unknown, and to dare to be different. I have no doubt they were all of those things themselves, because they are both extraordinary persons, having achieved measurable success by capturing the American Dream. When I sat down with them over Thanksgiving break, I interviewed them and confirmed that what they wanted was the best for me The path of least resistance (1) and they felt obliged to provide that path by shielding and guiding me away from the unknown, even though they endured and prospered from their worldly experiences. In 2006 I finally decided to take a chance and dared to be different. This led me to a chain of decisions that literally brings me here today. First, my employer propositioned me to move to New York City to work for our New York office. Had they asked a year prior, I probably would have declined the offer due to my fear of the unknown and risk aversive nature, but not in 2006. With little consultation and input from my parents I took that leap of faith. Coinciding with this major decision was a dear friend s wedding in London in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Threat Of The Atomic Bombs Devastation Justified: How the U.S. was Right in Dropping the Atomic Bombs In 1945, President Truman had to make one of the toughest decisions a president has ever been faced with. This decision, of course, being whether to drop the atomic bombs on Japanese cities, not drop the bombs at all, or do a demonstration by dropping a bomb in the ocean near Tokyo. Truman eventually chose to drop the atomic bombs on both Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August of 1945. This choice to drop the atomic bombs was right because these bombings assisted in slowing the expansion of the Soviet Union, changed the Japanese never give up mentality, and prevented the loss of many American and Japanese lives. On top of curtailing the expansion of the Soviet Union, dropping the atomic bombs induced the Japanese to give up their never surrender mentality. To begin with, in the battles of the Pacific War, the Japanese would always continue to fight as long as any soldiers were still alive. Also, wounded Japanese soldiers often attempted to use grenades to kill any enemy soldiers and medics who came near them, and they frequently used grenades to commit suicide rather than going through the disgrace of being taken alive. These accounts of the lack of quit of the Japanese soldiers displayed how they had no intention of surrendering to enemy forces no matter how bad the situation was. Additionally, in April of 1945, Japan s government initiated a policy known as Ketsugo, which trained all Japanese civilians, regardless of age or gender, on how to make their own weapons to help fight against invading soldiers. Japan s Ketsugo policy was meaningful since it illustrated the nation s willingness to fight and die as a nation before giving in. In contrast, following the bombing of Nagasaki, Hirohito, Japan s Emperor, impressed upon his country s Cabinet and Supreme Council the need for their agreement to the Potsdam Proclamation. This ... • 33. The Effects Of Gangster Rap And Appropriation Of The West... As N.W.A fell into the laps of the mainstream target audience: white, middle class, suburban males and their angst filled teens, more problems began to arise regarding the misconceptions of gangster rap and appropriation of the experience of black men in low income cities. Most of the rap that this demographic would hear on the radio was the lighter Pop Rap of MC Hammer and The Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff. According to GZA, the founder of the Wu Tang Clan, the label (Gangster Rap) was created by the media to limit what we can say. We just deliver the truth in a brutal fashion...They don t like that, so you hear ban this, ban that . We attack people s emotions. It s a real live show that brings out the inside in people . But many people outside the scene just associated it with the violent rivalry between the East Coast s Bad Boy Records and the West Coast s Death Row records that ultimately resulted in the mysterious murders of The Notorious B.I.G. and 2Pac. However, when Efil4zaggin hit number #1 on Billboard charts, the genre became more widely acknowledged and accepted by mainstream audiences. Although, in a general sense, Fuck Tha Police was relatable to the Every Man in it s dissatisfaction with unfairness it cannot be separated completely from it s specific context. Plato s Allegory Of The Cave By Achieving this awareness, they come to perceive reality differently; by broadening the horizon of their perception, they discover more easily in their background awareness the dialectical relations between the two dimensions of reality, (Freire, 115). Paulo Freire s, Pedagogy of the Oppressed, was written over three thousand years after Plato and his own work, The Republic, but the two contain very similar messages. Freire proposes to his readers that the oppressed are being dehumanized. With this dehumanization follows a lack of education and the oppressed peoples understanding of liberation. Shackled in a cave, believing that shadows are your realities is no way for a human to live. Finally accepting the collapse of the world he once knew, he realizes that for a majority of his life he has been neglected of the conditions that make people human. Like Freire, Plato is addressing the issues of oppression and transformation, and how it affects humanity as well as fears associated with freedom once the oppressed is liberated. In Plato s allegory the transformation does not just happen. An initial cause was required to allow for the man to ascend to the opening of the cave; this initial cause is a teacher. Since the beginning of the industrial revolution over a century and a half ago, nothing has been more pivotal to mankind s rise to power as the apex species of planet earth. Had our ancestors not discovered the potential of using million year old plant and animal remains to create combustible power, the world would look very different. There are dozens, if not hundreds of oil and coal alternatives that are being considered, however, while many options look promising in theory the overwhelming majority of them such as: wind, solar, and biofuel just aren t economically feasible on a global scale. Nuclear power is growing in popularity around the world for its extreme potency and zero emissions, but advancements in the field are few and far between due to the bad stigma that surrounds nuclear power. This negative stigma stems from its military roots and its potential for catastrophic disaster, which has become very real in the wake of Japan s recent natural disasters. The answer to kicking our oil habit may actually be much simpler than any of these other alternatives. The key to securing our energy independence may have been under our feet the entire time we were bending to the oil cartel s (OPEC s) every demand. Here in America we have been sitting atop a goldmine of natural gas wells that rank among the most abundant in the world. While natural gas is by no means a renewable source of energy, reserves are much more plentiful in America than oil. Natural gas also burns much cleaner than coal making it friendlier to our heavily burdened atmosphere. Current estimates put our nation s natural gas supply somewhere around twenty five hundred trillion cubic feet of technically recoverable natural gas from all sources (Deutch, 2011).
