This document provides instructions for completing a scavenger hunt activity in Blackboard. Students are directed to complete various tasks by clicking on icons, which will involve finding information in areas like Announcements, Content, Calendar, and Discussions. They are also instructed to document their answers in a Word document as they go. The final task is to submit the completed Word document through a Dropbox. Completing all the tasks earns a total of 27 points.

2. A-Hunting We Will Go!
 To complete this scavenger hunt activity, you will
click on different icons (pictures) to locate specific
tasks.
 Some of the tasks will be completed in
Blackboard. Others will be typed onto a word
document and submitted at the completion of the
activity.
 Each task will be worth 3 points for a total of 27
points.

3. Getting Started
 There are just a few preparations you’ll need to complete
before you begin your hunt.
 Click on the link to download the Scavenger Hunt Word
Document.
 Click “File,” then “Save As.”
 Save the document as YourLastName.Scavenger Hunt. For
example: Smith.Scavenger Hunt.
 Minimize the document (-) so you can return to it easily.
 Now you’re ready to explore!

4. Click on an icon to uncover a
task to complete.

5. Announcements
 In Blackboard, on the left-hand menu bar, click on
“Announcements.”
 When are the lesson one assignments due?
 Open your Scavenger Hunt document by clicking on it at
the bottom of your screen.
 Type in your answer beside the icon.
 Save your answer, and minimize the document.
 When you are finished, click the arrow to continue. 

6. Survey
 In Blackboard, on the left-hand menu bar, click
on “Orientation.”
 Next, click on “Pre-Course Survey” beside this
icon.
 Follow directions to complete the survey.
 Remember to click “submit” when you are done
answering questions.
 You’re on your way!
Click on the arrow to continue. 

7. Content
 In Blackboard, on the left-hand menu bar, click on
“Lesson 1.”
 Click on the first content page next to the icon that
looks like this.
 Click on the link to the first reading.
 Copy the title of the reading and paste it into your
Scavenger Hunt Word Document beside the
icon.
 Don’t forget to save your work before you minimize
the document.

8. Calendar
 In Blackboard, on the left-hand menu bar, click on
“Calendar.”
 What is the date of the second Friday of this month?
 Open your Scavenger Hunt document by clicking on it at
the bottom of your screen.
 Type in your answer beside the icon.
 Save your answer, and minimize the document.
 When you are finished, click the arrow to continue. 

9. Discussion
 In Blackboard, on the left-hand menu bar, click on
“Discussions.”
 Click on the discussion forum called “Marco Polo.”
 Click on “reply” at the bottom of my message.
 Type the word “Polo” in the discussion box.
 Click “submit.”
 Nice work! Keep going.

10. Ready or Not?
 To complete this task you must first post a response
to the “Marco Polo” discussion board.
 Are you ready? If you have already participated in
the “Marco Polo” discussion, click here.
 Not ready? No problem. If you haven’t visited the
“Marco Polo” discussion, click here.

11. Glossary
 In Blackboard, on the left-hand menu bar, click on
“Glossary.”
 Find the definition of Marco Polo in the glossary. Then,
select and copy that definition.
 Next, return to the “Marco Polo” discussion, and find
your response.
 Click on “edit”at the bottom of your response.
 Find the comment box, and paste the definition of Marco
Polo in the box. Don’t forget to click “submit” when you
are done.
 Click on the arrow to continue. 

12. Journal
 In Blackboard, on the left-hand menu bar, click on
“Journals.”
 Click on “Scavenger Hunt”
 Click on “Create Journal Entry.”
 Title the journal “Gone Hunting!”
 In the message box type “Today I went on a scavenger
hunt.”
 Before you submit, you are going to edit your text.

13. Edit Text
 Change the font family using the drop-down menu.
(Hint: It probably says ‘Arial’ to begin.)
 Change the font style. (Bold, Italics or Underlined)
 Change the font size to 6(24) using the drop-down
menu.
 Change the font color (T).
 When you are finished, click “submit.”
Click the arrow to continue. 

14. My Grades
 In Blackboard, on the left-hand menu bar, click on “My
Grades.”
 What is the maximum number of points you can earn for
the Ice-Breaker activity?
 Open your Scavenger Hunt document by clicking on it at
the bottom of your screen.
 Type in your answer beside the icon.
 Save your answer, and minimize the document.
 When you are finished, click the arrow to continue. 

15. Messages
 In Blackboard, on the left-hand menu bar, click on “Tools.”
 Click on “Class Messages” beside the icon.
 Click on “Inbox.”
 Click “to.”
 In the list of names on the left, select the name directly
under your own. (If yours is the very last name on the list,
select the first name on the list.)
 Click on the > to move the name into the recipients box,
then click it again to select.
Continue. 

16. Send Your Message
 Title the message “Hunting Trip.”
 In the message box, type, “I’m on a scavenger
hunt!”
 At the bottom og the page, click “submit.”
 Now your friend will know of your exceptional
hunting skills!
Click the Arrow to Continue. 

17. Almost There!
 You are almost at the finish line – just two more tasks to
complete!
 First, return to “Class Messages.” (Remember, you must first go
to “Tools.”)
 Check your Inbox. Is there a message from a classmate?
 If the “Hunting Trip” message is in your inbox, click on the title,
then choose “Reply to Sender” from the drop-down box. In the
message box, type, “Happy Hunting!” Remember to click
“submit” to complete your message.
 If a message from your classmate doesn’t appear in your inbox
yet, you can do this later.

18. Just one more thing…
 In Blackboard, on the left-hand menu bar, click on
“Orientation.”
 Click on “Scavenger Hunt” assignment folder.
 Click on “Scavenger Hunt Word Doc Dropbox”
 Submit your word document by clicking “Browse
Computer.” Select your document (which should be
in documents), and click open. Then click submit,
and your done!

19. CONGRATULATIONS!
