Internal System Controls And Application Controls
Internal System Controls
Introduction
Now a days businesses rely mostly on technology. However, there are risks that business information
systems face such as human input errors, transactions or data input that are improperly approved prior
to data input, and input controls that do not provide assurance that all transactions are initially
captured and recorded; these risks are all categorized as data origin risks. Business organizations
combat this and other risks using General Controls and Application Controls. Please keep reading to
find out what this controls are and how this controls are used, as well as learn about other risks that
business face and their respective categories.
1. General Controls
General Controls consist of implementation controls, software controls, hardware controls, computer
operations controls, data security controls and administrative controls. These controls ensure that
authorized user involvement as well as specific procedures and standards are followed, controlled and
are properly managed to secure physical and electronic data.
2. Application Controls
Application specific controls include data origin, data input, data processing and data output controls.
These controls ensure accuracy, completeness, validation, tracking and proper reliable distribution of
data is attained in an organizational environment. Other application controls are application access,
audit trail and documentation controls; that ensure controlled segregated access to

I Have Danced Before But Contra Dancing Essay
I have danced before but never contra dancing. I have done two weeks of ballet dancing and also two
weeks of Hip Hop dance. Before this contra dance experience, I was expecting six different instructors
teaching us how to country dance. I envisioned us all being each other s dance partners and dancing in
a barn sort of setting. I was incredibly neutral about the complete experience and didn t genuinely
know how to feel. I thought that I would simply go with the flow of how the trip would go. But as
soon as we arrived and I see how many people there was I was extremely nervous. Nervous about
learning so much with several experienced contra dancers. I was incredibly nervous that one incorrect
move could ruin the entire dance. I was also exceptionally excited to be learning something so new
since I hadn t even heard of contra dancing before. I was also dreadfully excited to get to know so
many unique and experienced dancers.
Walking to the building where it was we walked through this playground and the building seemed to
be a little inconspicuous so that reinsured my thought that there wouldn t be many people. There was
also an awfully small parking lot that would fit about seven cars. When I arrived in this space I realize
how enormous it was and questioned myself Are we really going to need all of this space? As people
started to arrive I was able to see all the different types of attire that people would wear to contra
dance. I also got to see how many people were

Meredith Monk Minimalism
David Carrillo TA: Joshua Bauder
Meredith Monk, Early Morning Melody
Early Morning Melody by Meredith Monk is a song with many minimalistic aspects. Repetition and
isolation of the human voice are two examples of it. (26 words)
The short song Early Morning Melody by Meredith Monk has a beautiful melody that repeats four
times with the third time having one different note. The repetition of this melody ironically does not
feel redundant, as the listener is likely to have mental pictures on how they interpret the song. For
example, thinking of how someone would really sing this for an early morning activity, like taking a
shower or cooking. Another image that may come to the listener s mind could be a much sadder scene:
perhaps a song for a funeral, or how the use of repetition could simbolize a lack of direction. (105
words) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While some believe the correct use of minimalism has some of the most profound and powerful ways
of communicating a message or a mental image, others find it too abstract, simplistic or even boring.
The short piece Early Morning Melody by the American composer, Meredith Monk, utilizes
minimalistic tools to evoke many emotions and reactions from the listeners. The use of a solo voice
and repetition of a simple, yet touching melody are two examples of how the minimalism is displayed.
The melody is repeated a total of four times and only the third has a small difference, so minuscule
that it is literally just one note that is different. It should also be noted that the unique note could even
be in the same harmonic progression of the passage. This is clearly done on purpose and, as explained
earlier, leads to as many interpretations as the amount of people listening to

Bullying Is A Growing Epidemic
Bullying is a growing epidemic in today s society and has become a pressing social and educational
concern. It is often dismissed as typical adolescent behavior but ignoring the problem could be
detrimental to the bully, the person being bullied, and even those who stand by witnessing the unkind
acts but do nothing about it. Bullying can hinder academic, social, and emotional development and
because it manifests in different forms, it is important to recognize the signs and address it with all
parities immediately.
Horton (2011) defines bullying as a group s collective aggressiveness towards an individual or group
of individuals who provoke or attract this aggressiveness (p. 268). According to Brank, Hoetger, and
Hazen (2012) there are four main types of bullying: physical, verbal, relational (or social), and cyber
bullying. Physical bullying is characterized by acts of aggression such as punching or hitting. Verbal
bullying is characterized by name calling or teasing. Deliberately leaving someone out of activities
and/or starting rumors characterizes relational or social bullying. Cyber bullying utilizes technology
such as texts, email, or social media to express aggression toward others (p. 214). Regardless of the
form of bullying, a common thread amongst them is there is a power imbalance between the bully and
the person being bullied. Being able to physically or verbally hurt others, being more confident,
having superior manipulative or social skills, and

The Important Discovery of Kenyanthropus Platyops
The Important Discovery of Kenyanthropus Platyops The Flat Faced Man of Kenya
A recent finding on the western shore of Lake Turkana in northern Kenya, a semi desert area, could
hold bold new implication for the origin of man. The finding was the skull of a very early hominid
which displays facial features of both modern man and early, more primitive ancestors. The findings
have been dated to approximately 3.5 million years, a time period once thought to be dominated by
human ancestors that did not posses any noticeable and unique characteristics held by modern man.
The find was discovered by Meave Leakey of the National Museums of Kenya and her colleagues,
Fred Spoor, Frank H. Brown, Patrik N. Gathogo, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The skull was found and is preserved in two main parts, the neurocranium with the superior and lateral
orbital margins, but lacking most of the cranial base; and the face, lacking premolar and anterior tooth
crowns and the right incisor roots. Most of the face is heavily distorted. 1[1] In other words, the skull
is preserved in two parts, the top of the head or cranium but missing the lower portion of the cranium
and the face without a couple of molars and incisors and has been distorted by time. While this may
not seem in good condition, to scientist it is remarkable. Even with a disfigured partial skull they can
draw many conclusions and information from it. To the person that scoffs at this partial skull, think
about the fact that it has miraculously survived 3.5 million years.
What the scientist have found from the skull is that it posses both primitive and advanced facial
features. Leakey and her team describe her findings as, ... Here we report on new fossils discovered
west of Lake Turkana, Kenya, which differ markedly from those of contemporary A. afarensis,
indicating that hominin taxonomic diversity extended back, well into the middle Pliocene. A 3.5
million year old cranium, showing a unique combination of derived facial and primitive neurocranial
features, is assigned to a new genus of hominin. Theses finding point to an early diet driven

Birth Control Should Be Available To Teenage Girls
According to the Center of Disease Control (CDC), teen pregnancy rates have decreased by 11 percent
to those aged 15 19 years in the years 2013 to 2014. If a continuum of these rates is to be achieved,
birth control should be available to teen girls without a prescription because they can prevent
unintended pregnancies. Also, the staggering abortion rates could be lowered due to the use of oral
contraceptives being available at any time. If condoms can be bought in stores to help guys protect
themselves, birth control should be over the counter. Birth control pills should be available to teenage
girls because teenage boys have availability to condoms, it would lower teen pregnancy rates, and
lastly it gives young girls control over their own body. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In many ways this is a huge problem, and it is sending the wrong message to young girls. In just about
any place you go, condoms are being handed out left and right to young men to protect them from
becoming early fathers. While in the meantime young girls are dealing with becoming teen moms
much sooner. Yes, the use of condoms during any sexual activity could prevent an unintended
pregnancy, but it should be ok for a young girl to take the extra mile to protect her body. Yet girls in
this day in age are struggling to receive protection from pregnancy due to the extreme prices of birth
control and having to have a prescription. While guys can walk into any store and get a pack of

Tax Advice Privilege Case Study
I. Identified Issues Several problems have resulted from the current interpretation of §7525. First, the
fact that there are many/more cases where assertion of the tax advice privilege is denied shows that it
is not understood (obviously, it can be a litigation/stalling technique, but
misinformation/misunderstanding can be a big part of it too). Second, uniform adoption/recognition of
the proper name of the privilege can help dispel incorrect assumptions or inferences/impressions. Don
t call it the tax practitioner/accountant client privilege, because that leads people to believe that the
WHO is important, when in reality, it s the WHAT that is most important (legal tax advice is
privileged because it s legal tax advice, not because it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The statute says that anything with a CPA is privileged if same stuff is privileged if with an attorney.
But courts have shown that this is not the case. Unlike attorney work product, accountant work
product is not privileged. Some communications that otherwise may be privileged are not because
they are included in mixed/dual purpose communications/documents. The language of the statute
could be amended to eliviate this confusion. Instead of saying stuff is protected if it would be
protected with an attorney, the statute should outline what is protected (normally you wouldn t want to
list everything out not economical but since courts have stripped scope down so much, it s easier to
just be clear about the few things that actually are privileged [litigation prep]. Fourth, use of the vague
phrase tax advice , coupled with the lack of any statutory definition of such phrase leads to disputes
between parties as to what constitutes tax advice. Case law is replete with examples of parties
claiming communications contained tax advice merely because tax issues were discussed. If courts
have interpreted tax advice to be a narrow definition, the statute should be amended to avoid further

FOXP2 And Language Development
Like previously discussed, FOXP2 is one of the most recent discoveries of a gene most likely related
to language development, however, it is also involved in language impairment, influencing a new area
of study within the genetic and evolutionary anthropology field. The authors of Identification of
FOXP2 Truncation as a Novel Cause of Developmental Speech and Language Deficits state that this
gene has derived within the past 200,000 years as the result of positive selection, which aligns with
Pinker s theory that there is a gene responsible for language development that has survived natural
selection. The article states that because of this, FOXP2 may have undergone human specific
modifications at a time when spoken language was emerging ... Show more content on

The blank slate is a theory utilized by some linguistic analysts that believe people are born with no
innateness or hardwiring from genetics, but rather develop their character through the influence of
their surrounding culture. Pinker strongly claims in his Ted Talk entitled, Human Nature and the Blank
Slate, that children are born with predisposed traits, although everyone shares similar behaviors and
feelings, such as aesthetics, affection, and age statuses, and even refers to this as common sense.
Pinker also uses genetic science and neurobiology to disclaim utilizations of the blank slate as an
explanation for language development. A study done by neurobiologist Paul Thompson measured grey
matter in areas of the brain between different pairs of people. Those who were unrelated showed no
similarities while fraternal twins shared many, and identical twins, who share much of their DNA,
showed a large amount of resemblances, proving that genetics are more influential than culture in
shaping character. He ultimately claims that scientific studies show that biological siblings separated
at birth are more identical in personality than adopted siblings sharing the same household because he
says that everything that happens to you in a given home over all of those years, appears to leave no
permanent stamp on your personality of intellect. He controversially argues that many people, like
Skinner, adopt the blank slate theory because if people are blank slates, then it can be assumed that
everyone is equal, however denying this assertion justifies prejudice and discrimination if one s slate
is not clean because they may have more of it than others, whatever the trait may be. The blank slate
theory also leads people to

Lesson Plan for Grade K 5, Language Arts
Prepared by Ms. Katayama, Liberal Studies Major at Chico State University
OVERVIEW PURPOSE
Technology is fluid; constantly changing and improving the way society functions and communicates
with one another. The importance of implementing technology in an academic setting is crucial due to
the modern world being a highly technological economy. Cell phones, computers, ipads, and other
technological instruments have made its way into almost every industry, including the education field,
and will only continue to increase. With a technological device in hand, students are broadening their
learning by being more creative, imaginative, and further engaging their cognitive thinking as opposed
to being restricted to writing with paper and pencil. Statistics show that students that interact with
tablets and computers score higher on tests and overall perform better in the classroom. Therefor,
teachers should do what they can comprehend how these technological devices work and find fun,
creative, lessons for students.
The main purpose of this lesson is to have students successfully create their own scrapbooks by using
descriptions, pictures, and drawings that illustrates what each student is passionate about. Ideas could
be hobbies such as dance, basketball, fishing, rock collections, etc., or volunteering at the local animal
shelter. By using the app, Story Creator, students will interact with either a tablet, ipad,

Impacts of Climate Change on Australia Alps’ Ski Industry
The changing nature of snow cover as a result of alpine climate change is a modern phenomenon that
climate scientists are beginning to understand. Declining snow depth and duration have serious
implications for Australia s ski industry, in particular the longevity of the industry. This essay
discusses the impacts of alpine climate change on snow cover, adaption strategies to sustain the
industry s economy as well as the unsustainable nature of snowmaking as a long term solution.
Limitations on water and energy resource make snowmaking problematic as a substitute for natural
snow. The essay highlights the unsustainability of snowmaking as a short term solution, and raises
concerns of the longevity of the ski industry.
Currently, the Australian ski industry comprises of ten operational ski resorts (Figure 1) with 0.15% of
the continent (Green and Pickering 2009, p. 271) regularly receiving snow due to the low attitude of
mountains. Consequently, decline in snow cover on top of limited snow availability pose significant
difficulties to the longevity of the ski industry.
Effects of Climate Change Impact on ski industry Possible solutions
Decreased snow cover ↓ snow depth and duration ↑ snowmaking to substitute natural with artificial
snow
Temperature ↓ snow cover cascading cycle
Biodiversity vegetation Affects winter summer tourism Opportunity for summer tourism
Water scarcity ↓ efficiency of snowmaking;
↑ cost and competition Use summer tourism to balance the

Shale Gas Of Ammonium And Ethylene
Shale Gas to Ammonium and Ethylene
Nikita Cardenas, Lucas Freiberg, James Watkins, Heitor Almeida Rogerio
RA2
Main Goals:
We are interested in using our shale gas stream, which we currently sell as heating fuel, to create
another product of value. We are considering taking the shale gas and producing anhydrous ammonia,
urea, ammonia sulfate, and ethylene. The main goal is to make a greater profit from our shale gas by
selling it as more valuable products rather than solely heating fuel.
Specific objectives and requirements: This project aims to create valuable products from natural gas
extracted from shale formations. The shale gas feed entering the process contains mostly hydrocarbons
that can be transformed into a variety of value added chemicals, but it also contains impurities that
must be removed. Carbon dioxide is useful in the chemical reactions utilized to convert hydrocarbons
into hydrogen gas (in order to create ammonia), but at 8 mole percent, the concentration of CO2 in our
feed will dilute the shale gas and may cause corrosion. Hydrogen sulfide is not only hazardous to
health and corrosive to pipelines, but also destroys metal catalysts used in the processes downstream.
These impurities can be removed using a variety of separations techniques. Once removed, however,
sulfur should not be considered a waste product. It can be collected and used in ammonium sulfate
fertilizer. Depending of the desired quality of gas,

have found out the regulator problem. So the operators decided, to pull out the stops to restore the
reactor s power.2 Their third fatal mistake, was the pulling out of control rods. The plant s rule was to
have thirty in at all times however they left all but six. By 1:00 Am the power risen to 200 MW, which
was still to low for the experiment, however the operators continued. In a few minutes they made their
fourth fatal error, by turning on two extra pumps to join the six that wee already cooling the core. This
procedure under such low power caused a massive steam disorder. Their fifth fatal error was the
turning off of the automatic shut off, which would turn off the reactor. At 1:23 a.m. on Saturday April
26, the workers began the actual experiment. They made their sixth error, by turning off the last safety
system. It took the shift manager thirty seconds to realize what was happening and shouted at another

Comparing the Techniques Used by the Writers to Create a Sense of Fear and Tension in The Black
Cat, The Red Room and The Yellow Wallpaper
Short stories like The Black Cat , The Red Room and The Yellow wallpaper , which were all written
during the pre 1914 s, were used as popular entertainment during the 19th 20th century. At that time
there was no television. Today, if we wanted to be entertained by something with similar horrific
content we could watch a film on TV, however, in the late 19th century this role had to be filled with

All three of the narrators write in first person, showing it as a personal experience to make the reader
feel more involved. This builds fear and tension because you can sense the build up of emotions and
imagine being in the narrators place. For example, in The Yellow Wallpaper the narrator says I get
unreasonably angry with John sometimes expressing her anger emotion, so we feel more involved.
She says that her anger is unreasonable but really it is not because she has the right to be angry with
him as he locks her up all the time and won t even let her see her baby. Although all three of the
stories are written in first person they are written differently, for example in The Yellow Wallpaper the
narrator builds all the fear and tension herself, whereas, in The Black Cat the narrator brings outside
influences into it, for example, the black cat and the narrator s wife influence some of the fear and
tension. In The Black Cat and The Red Room the narrator is male and both males are quite dominant,
but in The Yellow Wallpaper the narrator is female and is overpowered by her husband. This means
that a lot of emotional tension is built in the story.

the instructors for more details about an assignments, or, there will be older students who don t know
how to email the instructors for more details. If the student doesn t understand an assignment, and
never emails to ask for more details, can result in a poor grade for the lack of knowledge in knowing
what they re doing. There s one final drawback to not having social interactions with instructors;
Students can potentially miss out on building relationships that can result in helpful guidance and
recommendation letters down the road when needed. Students who are prone to procrastination will
have a difficult time adjusting to online classes. Hours of work are necessary to get through all of the
materials, including course lectures, educational videos, assignments, projects, assigned textbook
reading and discussions. For students who are getting an online degree, especially an online master s
degree, require a greater amount of work. The positive of online classes is being able to access the
class in any free time. Most online classes though, require work to be turned in on certain days and
times. Which makes it harder for students to remember when assignments need to be done. The
pleasure of the instructor reading/lecturing the textbook material out loud won t be there. It

Progressive Rock Research Paper
Progressive rock which was first known as progressive pop, later prog rock is a rock subgenre of
music that originated in the United Kingdom. It soon later had further developments in Germany,
Italy, and France, throughout the mid to late 1960s and 1970s. Prog rock developed from psychedelic
rock, and originated as an attempt to give greater artistic weight and credibility to rock music. Bands
abandoned the short pop single in favor of instrumentation and compositional techniques more
frequently associated with jazz or classical music in an effort to give rock music the same level of
musical sophistication and critical respect.
Progressive rock sometimes abandons the danceable beat that defines earlier rock styles and is more
likely to experiment

The European Union And The People s Republic Of China
Introduction This year, the European Union and the People s Republic of China celebrate their 40
years anniversary of diplomatic relations with one another. During these years, they have redefined
their relationship, they have deepened their mutual understanding and today they share what both
sides call a strategic partnership . However, during all these four decades, this profound relationship
experienced many difficulties and challenges, until the last two decades, which marked a new era of
political and economic strengthening of their ties. Especially, since China s accession in the WTO and
the institutionalisation of its economic and trade cooperation with the EU, the two parts have
witnessed a flourishing of their relations. The EU ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Going through the background of the relations between the two sides, focusing primarily on the
economic aspect of it, the paper will examine the opportunities and challenges of the strategic
partnership between the EU and China and it will argue that for China, the EU is the best economic
and strategic partner within the global economic system. EU China economic relations: a brief
overview Europe and China share a long history of bilateral relations and economic cooperation.
Trade and economic exchanges go back as long as 20 centuries ago, when the Roman empire formed
relations with ancient China in order to trade goods through the Asian continent. The most infamous
one is the example of the so called silk roads , paths that enabled cultural interaction and commodity
sharing, such as gold and silk, between European (Greek, Roman, Byzantine) and Asian (Chinese,
Indian, Persian) civilisations and were carried out by missionary merchants and pilgrim travelers.
During the modern history, however, European and China economic relations have gone through many
ups and downs, as the international climate affected drammatically their perception of each other. The
two World Wars damaged heavily the economies of Europe, while China was still under very low
levels of economic development. After the second World War, the US rose as the global economic
power and overshadowed the previous European (UK, France, Germany and Netherlands) economic

1.) In chapter 1, Black women slaves were defined as either a jezebel or mammy . In detail define the
characteristics of a jezebel and mammy . Why were black women defined in these two extreme ways?
By contrast, how were Southern white women characterized? * One of the most standout images of
black women in white slavery America was of a woman who ran entirely off of her sex drive, a
Jezebel. A jezebel was considered to be the complete opposite of a proper white woman. She was
thought to have little to none religious affiliation. A jezebel took no instances to cover her body, and
showed no signs of prudery. The idea that black women were over sexualized first ... Show more

Because of her expertise in all domestic matters, she was the premier house servant and all others
were her subordinates. This, therefore, is the broad outline of Mammy. She was a woman completely
dedicated to the white family, especially to the children of that family. She was the house servant who
was given complete charge of domestic management. She served also as friend and advisor. She was,
in short, a surrogate mistress and mother, giving into the modern day nanny. The Mammy image is
fully as misleading as that of Jezebel. Both images have enough instances in reality to lend credibility
to stereotypes that would profoundly affect black women. For instance, Black women served in all
capacities, from cook to waiting maid, or seamstress. In very wealthy Southern households there were
many female servants. Children grew very attached to Mammy, as she was seen as their primary
caregiver. Being a Mammy was idyllic for a slave women, for they were given better care and the
work wasn t as tasking. Hard as cleaning, cooking, sewing, dairy work, and child care were, they were
not as physically taxing as a sun up to sun down day in the cropbe it sugar, rice, or cotton. On the
whole, house women could expect to eat better, dress better, and get better medical care than field
women, if only because they were more familiar to the master and mistress, not to mention nearer to
the kitchen and potential handmedowns. Still

Swot Analysis Of Netflix
Due to the company s high dependence on the cost of content licensing and relationships with content
providers, the company is vulnerable at many levels.
Netflix suffers low profit margins due to the cost of international expansion and currency fluctuations.
Netflix faces tough competition with companies that broadcast live, unique and free content through
torrents and cable television.
Unlike its competitors Hulu and Amazon, Netflix does not generate income through advertisements.
At an international level, the dependence on laws and regulations of different countries is an obstacle
to the company s potential growth.
Netflix s high dependence on internet connectivity makes it difficult to gain popularity in many parts
of Asia and Africa, where internet connectivity is not well established.
Domestic providers tend to produce or broadcast series that are designed to match the customer s
needs. This can be challenging for Netflix to match.
Its dependence on the regulations and laws of different countries is a hinderance to Netflix s
international expansion. For example, in spite of China s attractive market with a massive broadband
capable population, it was very difficult for Netflix to operate due to strict regulations on the country s
media and entertainment industries. https://www.cayenneapps.com/swot app/swots/47887/analysis

voices pleading for something more. A community was formed from the overwhelming appeal to
passions for life and the insatiable curiosity about how to live (McGeory 21). Leading a life without
parental guardians constructing a reality for him, Dean learns to depend upon chaos to organize the
big picture in his mind. In his quote, Dean sums up the attitude and the qualities needed to enjoy life.
No problem is substantial enough to interfere with the balance of the mindset. Do not be afraid of the

Military Discrimination against Homosexuals Essay
Homosexuals, bisexuals and lesbians were a condemned lot not allowed to serve in the United States
military service including the Navy forces. Service men and women in the military were judged not
only with reference to their behavioral conduct but also from their sexual orientation results. The
Department of Defense (DOD) would ask questions concerning sexual orientation of prospects willing
to join the military service. A sexual orientation related to sexual attraction to people of a particular
gender. Even members of the military service were not allowed to make any statement that meant they

military. The Department of Defense was reviewing the ban and come up with analysis that would end

suggestion made on ending discrimination with regard to sexual orientation. The Chief of staff agreed
with Bill Clinton to remove any question concerning sexual orientation that was included in the

The French Revolution was inspired by the ideas from the Enlightenment. The main goal that the
Enlightenment tried to reach was to promote scientific reasoning and end the injustice in the way
governments were performing. The French Revolution was mainly a series of upheaving s aiming to
gain social and political reforms, along with ways to govern more justly. Due to the previous era,
being the Enlightenment, French Revolutionists saw that Enlightenment participants, such as
Rousseau, Voltaire, Robspierre ,and Beccaria, along with works such as Declaration of the Rights of
Man and multiple posters, took a step towards new reforms and follow in their path and ideas. These
French Revolutionists succeeded in some ways, yet remained unsuccessful in more ways. Document 1
from Jean Jacques Rousseau concludes that a man needs to control his own freedoms. Rousseau, a
philosopher, believed in a Republic because he believed that people need to have more power and
individual freedoms must be improved. In his Social Contract, he calls for a sovereign, which will
benefit the good of an individual, but even better the overall group with intentions that aim for the
common good. A need for a change in government was wanted because a monarch rule was not
wanted. A new type of government, a provisional republic formed after King Louis Philippe was
abdicated, gave universal male suffrage and ended slavery and the death penalty. Those reforms were

The Accomplishments Of Julius Caesar
What was Julius and Augustus status as a soldier and their military accomplishments? How did they
obtained their titles as dictators and emperors? Julius Caesar and Caesar Augustus were both great
military leaders, having many military accomplishments. Both worked hard to become the dictators
and emperors they were.
Julius Caesar started as a military tribune making ready to become a Consul. One of the world s most
vital military pioneers was regularly acquainted with a senatorial, patrician family and was the nephew
of another observed Roman general, Marius. Julius military accomplishments were that he was known
never to have lost ever a single war. These were extraordinary triumphs that legitimated the
consolidation the Gaul as part of the Roman Empire, increasing the geographical reaches of Rome to
the Atlantic Ocean. The Roman invasion of Britain in 55 B.C. was moreover one of the genuine
achievements of Julius Caesar
Augustus military accomplishments were that he was part of Caesar s military expedition to Spain to
destroy the offspring of Pompey, his vanquished foe. They were endeavoring to carry on their father s
rivalry with Caesar. Augustus was inspecting and engaging military planning in Apollonia, Illyria.
Rejecting the urging of some of his officers to take refuge with the troops in Macedonia, he traveled to
Italia to discover whether he had any potential political fortunes or security. Antony and Augustus then

My Husband And I Grew Up With A Common Issue
My husband and I grew up with a common issue, we never had a place that we could comfortably call
home. Every place we have ever lived in growing up and even currently came with a list of issues
such as out dated electrical and/or plumbing, located in an unsafe neighborhoods, and sharing walls
with problematic neighbors. Very understandably in results of these similar life experiences, my
husband and I both agree that owning a house in a great location that has been recently built and/or
updated would be ideal. However, believe it or not, having a new home built to suit is cheaper than
buying a home from someone else. So, with this knowledge, I have designed a house from top to
bottom to match the needs of our family. Not too far in the future our dream house sits on a nice lot of
green grass in a well maintained family friendly neighborhood. The house is a ranch style home with 2
bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a finished basement. The house has a freshly painted gray paneled
exterior and every window has functioning natural oak shutters. There drive way is smoothly paved to
comfortably fit two cars with an open carport connected to the front left side of the house. The formal
front door, the entry door from the carport, and carport support beams are all made of natural oak.
These oak details are visually appealing and make strong building materials. When I open the formal

What Is The Mood Of The Lady Of Shalott
In the poem The Lady of Shalott, we find a woman, who is trapped inside of her own home by a curse.
She is faced with the fact that she cannot experience reality due to this curse that for whatever reason
has been placed on her. The poet uses imagery and symbolism to portray the feelings in the story as
well as the hidden meanings within the poem. Imagery within the story poses the mood of the setting.
The poem states, Four gray walls, and four gray towers, overlook a space of flowers (Part 1, Stanza 2).
The poet describes the place in which the lady dwells as being very dreary, and lonesome. Also, the
poet talks about the Lady of Shalott being tired of the shadows which also provides insight into the
living conditions in which the woman resides. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both the mirror and the loom act as key symbols in the story. For the mirror, it represents the absence
or even a fake reality. The Lady of Shalott longs for experience of true reality, in which she cannot

is not the actual thing. The loom acts in a similar way. As the woman slaves over her works of art, she
never directly sees the progression of her craft, but only the reflection of it. In light of the Victorian
era, art acts in the same way. Art is a portrayal of reality from the view of the artist. Like the role of
the mirror, art does not directly show reality but the reflection of

Generation gap means difference in attitude, or lack of understanding between younger and older
generation. This generation gap has always been there but these days it has reached to an explosive
stage. The values and patterns of life have changed to a great extent. Today, everybody likes to live
and behave in his own way. This attitude has widened the generation gap, which can never be filled. It
is now destroying family life completely. The elders look after the children and make all sorts of
sacrifices to bring them up. Naturally, they feel they have a right over them. They want their children
to follow their instructions as they have certain expectations from them. But the children, when they
grow up, want a complete freedom in their thoughts and actions and unfortunately their thoughts and
actions are just opposite to those expected by the elders. They revolt when any kind of restrictions are
imposed on them. Consequently, the family breaks up and everything gets ruined.
In India, we are yet in the initial stages, but the gap has appeared and it is going to grow bigger day by
day. So it is not only the responsibility of the younger but also of the elders to fill this gap with their
love, affection and trust. The

The Serial Peripheral Interphase
The Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) is a synchronous bi directional (full duplex) serial data protocol
used by microcontrollers to enable communication between one or more peripheral devices that are all
of short distances to one another. Furthermore, it can also be used for communication between two
microcontrollers; with particular interest between Arduino boards and Multiwii flight controllers. In
general, an SPI data link consists of one master; typically a microcontroller which controls one or
more peripheral devices known as slaves. Both the master and the slaves share three common lines
which include; MISO (Master In Slave Out) which is responsible for transferring data from the slave
to the master; MOSI (Master Out Slave In) which is responsible for transferring data from the master
to the slaves; and SCK (Serial Clock) which is created by the master and is responsible for
synchronising the transmission of data between master and slave in respect clock pulses. There is also
SS (Slave Select) line that is specific to a pin on each slave device and in which the master can use to
enable and disable specific slave devices. In the case a slave device s SS pin is low, communication is
enabled with the master. However in the case it is high, communication is disabled with the master.
This allows multiple devices using SPI to share common MISO, MOSI, and CLK lines. Full duplex
data transmission occurs during each clock cycle generated by the master in which the master

Neural Networks in Investments Essay example
Neural Networks in Investments
I. ABSTRACT
Investment managers often find themselves overwhelmed with the large amount of data obtained from
the financial markets. Most of the data available is numeric and noisy in nature, making the decision
making process harder. These decisions usually rely on the integration of statistical measures that
attempt to compress much of the data and qualitative depictions such as graphs and bar charts with
news events and other pertinent information. Investment decisions usually involve non linear
relationships among the various components of the data. Computers in general, are very adept at
dealing with large amounts of numeric information. However, some algorithms are crucial in

At the simplest level, neural networks are a new way of analyzing data. The revolutionary aspect of
neural networks is their ability to learn and trace the complex patterns and trends in data. Neural
networks are made up of neurons and behave like the human brain, and has the ability to apply
knowledge from past experience to new problems. Neural networks acquire this knowledge by
training on a set of data. After the network has been trained and validated, the model may be applied
to data it has not seen previously for prediction, classification, time series analysis or data
segmentation.
Unlike traditional statistical methods, neural networks do not require assumptions about the model
form. A statistical analysis requires a certain form to be assumed such as linearity, which characterizes
relationships between variables. Neural networks are more tolerant of imperfect data, such as the
presence of missing values or other data quality problems. Neural networks perform better than
traditional statistical methods when the model form is unknown or nonlinear, or when the problems
are complex with highly inter related relationships.
In a dynamic environment, neural networks are flexible tools and have the capacity to learn rapidly
and change quickly. As the data values and outcomes change, the model quickly learns and adapts
itself. Rule based systems

Impact Of Formative Assessment On Student Learning
What is formative assessment and how does it impact on student learning?
Formative assessment is assessment for learning. It is used at the beginning of an instructional period
and during the process of instruction as teachers check for student understanding. Diagnostic tools
determine what students already know and where there are gaps and misconceptions. Formative
assessment also includes assessment as learning, where students reflect on and monitor their own
progress. The information gained guides teachers decisions in how to enhance teaching and learning.
Students will reflect on and monitor progress; this progress intern becomes assessment as learning
because it contributes to students planning for future learning goals. (Chappuis, 2009, p.4) A notable
finding of Black and Wiliam s work is that formative assessment has a disproportionately beneficial
impact on low‐achieving students. They state that, while formative assessment can help all pupils, it
yields particularly good results with low achievers by concentrating on specific problems with their
work and giving them a clear understanding of what is wrong and how to put it right The assumption
here is that formative assessment shows students that underperformance is not innate and that
improvements can be made through targeted changes (Black and Wiliam, Inside the Black Box, Op.
cit., p. 6.)
Another main attribute to meaningful classroom dialogue is the teachers ability to pitch good, thought
out and well planned questions to assist students and scaffold their learning by prompting them with
thought evoking and reflective questions, requiring the student to think. (Black Wiliam in Gardner,
2006). It must be noted that for this process to be effective, teachers need to provide students with
adequate thinking time to formulate their answers and in turn manifest their learning. Finally applying
new modes of pedagogy and significant changes in classroom practice will assist in student
understanding by having students make self assessments through their own assessment process. Self
assessment increases students sense of responsibility to learn and over time relieves teachers with less
of a responsibility to actively assess and coach students

Sheet Mask Risk
Risk of Using a Sheet Mask Sheet masks have been super popular these days, and I do sometime use
them for fun. Yet, did you know that almost all sheet masks that are not required to be kept in a fridge
contain a lot of preserva tives? Imagine there s some food wrapped in wet tissue in a zip lock bag. If it
s kept at room temperature for a long time, it will spoil and mold will start to grow, right? The same
principle applies to sheet masks too. Sheet masks contain lots of great natural ingredients and these
ingredients are like foods. Natural ingredients attract microbes, so preservatives are needed to keep the
natural ingredients in the mask fresh. Sheet masks are fun and very moisturizing, so you might be
using them very frequently, but I highly suggest you limit how much you use them. If you can, check
the ingredient list first before you pur chase a sheet mask. Natural ingredients are great, but if the

market share in the United States due to informal boycotts in the wake of the Iraq war. The rise of the
euro against other currencies, such as the 30% increase relative to the dollar in the last few years, has
put French wines at a comparative cost disadvantage. But consensus among experts is that the ... Show

However, it quickly became apparent that the newcomers pose a serious threat to the traditional
winemakers. The French were especially hurt when they began to lose their global market share as
well as the coveted U.K. market to the Australians.
Allows analysis of the way in which newcomers can change the rules of competitive engagement in a
global industry. How incumbents can respond, especially when constrained by regulation, tradition,
embedded values, and a different set of capabilities than those demanded by the emerging market by
changing consumer tastes and market structures.
The case contrasts the tradition bound Old World wine industry with the market oriented New World
producers, the battle for the US market, the most desirable export target in 2009 due to its large, fast
growing, high priced market segments.
REINVENTING THE MARKETING MODEL: New World producers revolutionized the packaging
and marketing aspects of wine making. Americans and Australians greatly impacted wine packaging
by replacing the Old World standard liter bottle with a half gallon flagon in the U.S. and the
innovative wine in a box package in Australia. Australians have been praised for this idea because
boxed wine not only saves on shipping costs but it
has made storage easier for consumers. Australians have also begun to use screw on caps rather than
the traditional corks on premium wines; this is to prevent spoiling due to deficient corks. On the

Stuttering In The King s Speech
The King s Speech (2010) follows King George VI, referred to as Bertie throughout the film, as he
seeks stuttering treatment while managing his increasing responsibilities in the years preceding World
War II. One of the ongoing thematic elements of The King s Speech was Bertie s on going struggle
with his self confidence and self worth, especially as the looming responsibilities of kingship magnify
his feelings of inadequacy. It was interesting to contrast Bertie s self perception to the manner in
which his stuttering was perceived by those around him. In a few instances, Bertie mentions that his
stuttering has always been particularly difficult when speaking with his father and older brother. In
one of the few scenes with King George V, the King is seen as being extremely strict with Bertie.
While he initially tries to encourage Bertie by stating public speaking is a matter of practice, this
attempt at encouragement rapidly devolved into openly berating Bertie. Almost immediately upon
sitting down, the King instructed Bertie to sit up straight, to get it out , and even at one point angrily
tells his son to relax. A second scene involved Bertie stating that his brother, Edward, was prone to
mocking his stuttering and was even encouraged to do so by their father. As adults, Edward resorts to
mocking Bertie when faced with criticism. Given the negative attitudes of his family members
towards his stuttering, it is understandable that these attitudes contributed so

Management Styles Of Leadership Styles
Literature Review Outline
I. Introduction
a. A key determinant in an organizational success is directly related with the management styles of
leadership. According to Parris Peachey (2013), the key to understanding an organizations success is
to study its leaders. A leader s ability to inspire, motive, and create a strong sense of engagement and
commitment to the organization will determine the success or failure in the attainment of goals.
Transformational, charismatic, and servant leadership are three styles that organizational leaders might
possess. While there is no predetermined best style of leadership, one can describe leadership and
management as situational. The overriding goal of any organization is building a high performing
organization which is paramount for short and long term success (DeGraw Sizoo, 2013). Both the
leader and the organization should select the most appropriate style to enhance organizations
probability for effectiveness and attainment of desire goals. Studies have shown when organizations
have the right leadership in place, an organization can have shared vision that is articulated in a
manner where subordinates desire work enthusiastically towards the accomplishment of the goals
(Parris Peachey, 2013).
b. One of the most comprehensive research topics in the area of behavioral science is leadership.

  • 4. I Have Danced Before But Contra Dancing Essay I have danced before but never contra dancing. I have done two weeks of ballet dancing and also two weeks of Hip Hop dance. Before this contra dance experience, I was expecting six different instructors teaching us how to country dance. I envisioned us all being each other s dance partners and dancing in a barn sort of setting. I was incredibly neutral about the complete experience and didn t genuinely know how to feel. I thought that I would simply go with the flow of how the trip would go. But as soon as we arrived and I see how many people there was I was extremely nervous. Nervous about learning so much with several experienced contra dancers. I was incredibly nervous that one incorrect move could ruin the entire dance. I was also exceptionally excited to be learning something so new since I hadn t even heard of contra dancing before. I was also dreadfully excited to get to know so many unique and experienced dancers. Walking to the building where it was we walked through this playground and the building seemed to be a little inconspicuous so that reinsured my thought that there wouldn t be many people. There was also an awfully small parking lot that would fit about seven cars. When I arrived in this space I realize how enormous it was and questioned myself Are we really going to need all of this space? As people started to arrive I was able to see all the different types of attire that people would wear to contra dance. I also got to see how many people were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Meredith Monk Minimalism David Carrillo TA: Joshua Bauder Meredith Monk, Early Morning Melody Early Morning Melody by Meredith Monk is a song with many minimalistic aspects. Repetition and isolation of the human voice are two examples of it. (26 words) The short song Early Morning Melody by Meredith Monk has a beautiful melody that repeats four times with the third time having one different note. The repetition of this melody ironically does not feel redundant, as the listener is likely to have mental pictures on how they interpret the song. For example, thinking of how someone would really sing this for an early morning activity, like taking a shower or cooking. Another image that may come to the listener s mind could be a much sadder scene: perhaps a song for a funeral, or how the use of repetition could simbolize a lack of direction. (105 words) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While some believe the correct use of minimalism has some of the most profound and powerful ways of communicating a message or a mental image, others find it too abstract, simplistic or even boring. The short piece Early Morning Melody by the American composer, Meredith Monk, utilizes minimalistic tools to evoke many emotions and reactions from the listeners. The use of a solo voice and repetition of a simple, yet touching melody are two examples of how the minimalism is displayed. The melody is repeated a total of four times and only the third has a small difference, so minuscule that it is literally just one note that is different. It should also be noted that the unique note could even be in the same harmonic progression of the passage. This is clearly done on purpose and, as explained earlier, leads to as many interpretations as the amount of people listening to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Bullying Is A Growing Epidemic Bullying is a growing epidemic in today s society and has become a pressing social and educational concern. It is often dismissed as typical adolescent behavior but ignoring the problem could be detrimental to the bully, the person being bullied, and even those who stand by witnessing the unkind acts but do nothing about it. Bullying can hinder academic, social, and emotional development and because it manifests in different forms, it is important to recognize the signs and address it with all parities immediately. Horton (2011) defines bullying as a group s collective aggressiveness towards an individual or group of individuals who provoke or attract this aggressiveness (p. 268). According to Brank, Hoetger, and Hazen (2012) there are four main types of bullying: physical, verbal, relational (or social), and cyber bullying. Physical bullying is characterized by acts of aggression such as punching or hitting. Verbal bullying is characterized by name calling or teasing. Deliberately leaving someone out of activities and/or starting rumors characterizes relational or social bullying. Cyber bullying utilizes technology such as texts, email, or social media to express aggression toward others (p. 214). Regardless of the form of bullying, a common thread amongst them is there is a power imbalance between the bully and the person being bullied. The Important Discovery of Kenyanthropus Platyops The Important Discovery of Kenyanthropus Platyops The Flat Faced Man of Kenya A recent finding on the western shore of Lake Turkana in northern Kenya, a semi desert area, could hold bold new implication for the origin of man. The finding was the skull of a very early hominid which displays facial features of both modern man and early, more primitive ancestors. The findings have been dated to approximately 3.5 million years, a time period once thought to be dominated by human ancestors that did not posses any noticeable and unique characteristics held by modern man. The skull was found and is preserved in two main parts, the neurocranium with the superior and lateral orbital margins, but lacking most of the cranial base; and the face, lacking premolar and anterior tooth crowns and the right incisor roots. First, the fact that there are many/more cases where assertion of the tax advice privilege is denied shows that it is not understood (obviously, it can be a litigation/stalling technique, but misinformation/misunderstanding can be a big part of it too). The blank slate is a theory utilized by some linguistic analysts that believe people are born with no innateness or hardwiring from genetics, but rather develop their character through the influence of their surrounding culture. Pinker strongly claims in his Ted Talk entitled, Human Nature and the Blank Slate, that children are born with predisposed traits, although everyone shares similar behaviors and feelings, such as aesthetics, affection, and age statuses, and even refers to this as common sense. Pinker also uses genetic science and neurobiology to disclaim utilizations of the blank slate as an explanation for language development. A study done by neurobiologist Paul Thompson measured grey matter in areas of the brain between different pairs of people. Those who were unrelated showed no similarities while fraternal twins shared many, and identical twins, who share much of their DNA, showed a large amount of resemblances, proving that genetics are more influential than culture in shaping character. He ultimately claims that scientific studies show that biological siblings separated at birth are more identical in personality than adopted siblings sharing the same household because he says that everything that happens to you in a given home over all of those years, appears to leave no permanent stamp on your personality of intellect. He controversially argues that many people, like Skinner, adopt the blank slate theory because if people are blank slates, then it can be assumed that everyone is equal, however denying this assertion justifies prejudice and discrimination if one s slate is not clean because they may have more of it than others, whatever the trait may be. This essay discusses the impacts of alpine climate change on snow cover, adaption strategies to sustain the industry s economy as well as the unsustainable nature of snowmaking as a long term solution. Limitations on water and energy resource make snowmaking problematic as a substitute for natural snow. The essay highlights the unsustainability of snowmaking as a short term solution, and raises concerns of the longevity of the ski industry. Currently, the Australian ski industry comprises of ten operational ski resorts (Figure 1) with 0.15% of the continent (Green and Pickering 2009, p. 271) regularly receiving snow due to the low attitude of mountains. We are considering taking the shale gas and producing anhydrous ammonia, urea, ammonia sulfate, and ethylene. The main goal is to make a greater profit from our shale gas by selling it as more valuable products rather than solely heating fuel. Specific objectives and requirements: This project aims to create valuable products from natural gas extracted from shale formations. The shale gas feed entering the process contains mostly hydrocarbons that can be transformed into a variety of value added chemicals, but it also contains impurities that must be removed. Carbon dioxide is useful in the chemical reactions utilized to convert hydrocarbons into hydrogen gas (in order to create ammonia), but at 8 mole percent, the concentration of CO2 in our feed will dilute the shale gas and may cause corrosion. Hydrogen sulfide is not only hazardous to health and corrosive to pipelines, but also destroys metal catalysts used in the processes downstream. These impurities can be removed using a variety of separations techniques. Once removed, however, sulfur should not be considered a waste product. It can be collected and used in ammonium sulfate fertilizer. Depending of the desired quality of gas, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Very understandably in results of these similar life experiences, my husband and I both agree that owning a house in a great location that has been recently built and/or updated would be ideal. She is faced with the fact that she cannot experience reality due to this curse that for whatever reason has been placed on her. The poet uses imagery and symbolism to portray the feelings in the story as well as the hidden meanings within the poem. Imagery within the story poses the mood of the setting. The poem states, Four gray walls, and four gray towers, overlook a space of flowers (Part 1, Stanza 2). The poet describes the place in which the lady dwells as being very dreary, and lonesome. Also, the poet talks about the Lady of Shalott being tired of the shadows which also provides insight into the living conditions in which the woman resides. ... The Lady of Shalott longs for experience of true reality, in which she cannot experience due to the curse imposed on her. Though a mirror reflects the image of reality, what is seen is not the actual thing. The loom acts in a similar way. As the woman slaves over her works of art, she never directly sees the progression of her craft, but only the reflection of it. In light of the Victorian era, art acts in the same way. How often do you shake your head in frustration and blame it on the generation gap ? Parents! They are like aliens from another planet altogether! You and they are in different camps; strangers forced to live under the same roof Right? Wrong! There is a way of bridging what appears to be a yawning chasm. Generation gap means difference in attitude, or lack of understanding between younger and older generation. This generation gap has always been there but these days it has reached to an explosive stage. The values and patterns of life have changed to a great extent. Today, everybody likes to live and behave in his own way. This attitude has widened the generation gap, which can never be filled. It is now destroying family life completely. The elders look after the children and make all sorts of sacrifices to bring them up. Naturally, they feel they have a right over them. They want their children to follow their instructions as they have certain expectations from them. But the children, when they grow up, want a complete freedom in their thoughts and actions and unfortunately their thoughts and actions are just opposite to those expected by the elders. They revolt when any kind of restrictions are imposed on them. Consequently, the family breaks up and everything gets ruined. In India, we are yet in the initial stages, but the gap has appeared and it is going to grow bigger day by day. So it is not only the responsibility of the younger but also of the elders to fill this gap with their love, affection and trust. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The Serial Peripheral Interphase The Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) is a synchronous bi directional (full duplex) serial data protocol used by microcontrollers to enable communication between one or more peripheral devices that are all of short distances to one another. Furthermore, it can also be used for communication between two microcontrollers; with particular interest between Arduino boards and Multiwii flight controllers. In general, an SPI data link consists of one master; typically a microcontroller which controls one or more peripheral devices known as slaves. Both the master and the slaves share three common lines which include; MISO (Master In Slave Out) which is responsible for transferring data from the slave to the master; MOSI (Master Out Slave In) which is responsible for transferring data from the master to the slaves; and SCK (Serial Clock) which is created by the master and is responsible for synchronising the transmission of data between master and slave in respect clock pulses. There is also SS (Slave Select) line that is specific to a pin on each slave device and in which the master can use to enable and disable specific slave devices. In the case a slave device s SS pin is low, communication is enabled with the master. However in the case it is high, communication is disabled with the master. This allows multiple devices using SPI to share common MISO, MOSI, and CLK lines. Full duplex data transmission occurs during each clock cycle generated by the master in which the master ... ABSTRACT Investment managers often find themselves overwhelmed with the large amount of data obtained from the financial markets. Most of the data available is numeric and noisy in nature, making the decision making process harder. These decisions usually rely on the integration of statistical measures that attempt to compress much of the data and qualitative depictions such as graphs and bar charts with news events and other pertinent information. Investment decisions usually involve non linear relationships among the various components of the data. Computers in general, are very adept at dealing with large amounts of numeric information. However, some algorithms are crucial in analyzing and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the simplest level, neural networks are a new way of analyzing data. The revolutionary aspect of neural networks is their ability to learn and trace the complex patterns and trends in data. Neural networks are made up of neurons and behave like the human brain, and has the ability to apply knowledge from past experience to new problems. Neural networks acquire this knowledge by training on a set of data. After the network has been trained and validated, the model may be applied to data it has not seen previously for prediction, classification, time series analysis or data segmentation. Unlike traditional statistical methods, neural networks do not require assumptions about the model form. A statistical analysis requires a certain form to be assumed such as linearity, which characterizes relationships between variables. Neural networks are more tolerant of imperfect data, such as the presence of missing values or other data quality problems. Neural networks perform better than traditional statistical methods when the model form is unknown or nonlinear, or when the problems are complex with highly inter related relationships. In a dynamic environment, neural networks are flexible tools and have the capacity to learn rapidly and change quickly. As the data values and outcomes change, the model quickly learns and adapts itself. Rule based systems ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Impact Of Formative Assessment On Student Learning What is formative assessment and how does it impact on student learning? Formative assessment is assessment for learning. It is used at the beginning of an instructional period and during the process of instruction as teachers check for student understanding. Diagnostic tools determine what students already know and where there are gaps and misconceptions. Formative assessment also includes assessment as learning, where students reflect on and monitor their own progress. The information gained guides teachers decisions in how to enhance teaching and learning. Students will reflect on and monitor progress; this progress intern becomes assessment as learning because it contributes to students planning for future learning goals. (Chappuis, 2009, p.4) A notable finding of Black and Wiliam s work is that formative assessment has a disproportionately beneficial impact on low‐achieving students. They state that, while formative assessment can help all pupils, it yields particularly good results with low achievers by concentrating on specific problems with their work and giving them a clear understanding of what is wrong and how to put it right The assumption here is that formative assessment shows students that underperformance is not innate and that improvements can be made through targeted changes (Black and Wiliam, Inside the Black Box, Op. cit., p. 6.) Another main attribute to meaningful classroom dialogue is the teachers ability to pitch good, thought out and well planned questions to assist students and scaffold their learning by prompting them with thought evoking and reflective questions, requiring the student to think. (Black Wiliam in Gardner, 2006). It must be noted that for this process to be effective, teachers need to provide students with adequate thinking time to formulate their answers and in turn manifest their learning. Finally applying new modes of pedagogy and significant changes in classroom practice will assist in student understanding by having students make self assessments through their own assessment process. Self assessment increases students sense of responsibility to learn and over time relieves teachers with less of a responsibility to actively assess and coach students ... How did the French become the dominant competitors in the increasingly global wine industry for centuries? What sources of competitive advantage were they able to develop to support their exports? Where were they vulnerable? French wine makers also face challenges that are not internal to the industry. For instance, France lost market share in the United States due to informal boycotts in the wake of the Iraq war. Americans and Australians greatly impacted wine packaging by replacing the Old World standard liter bottle with a half gallon flagon in the U.S. and the innovative wine in a box package in Australia. Stuttering In The King s Speech The King s Speech (2010) follows King George VI, referred to as Bertie throughout the film, as he seeks stuttering treatment while managing his increasing responsibilities in the years preceding World War II. One of the ongoing thematic elements of The King s Speech was Bertie s on going struggle with his self confidence and self worth, especially as the looming responsibilities of kingship magnify his feelings of inadequacy. It was interesting to contrast Bertie s self perception to the manner in which his stuttering was perceived by those around him. In a few instances, Bertie mentions that his stuttering has always been particularly difficult when speaking with his father and older brother. In one of the few scenes with King George V, the King is seen as being extremely strict with Bertie. While he initially tries to encourage Bertie by stating public speaking is a matter of practice, this attempt at encouragement rapidly devolved into openly berating Bertie. Almost immediately upon sitting down, the King instructed Bertie to sit up straight, to get it out , and even at one point angrily tells his son to relax. A second scene involved Bertie stating that his brother, Edward, was prone to mocking his stuttering and was even encouraged to do so by their father. Given the negative attitudes of his family members towards his stuttering, it is understandable that these attitudes contributed so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Management Styles Of Leadership Styles Literature Review Outline I. Introduction a. A key determinant in an organizational success is directly related with the management styles of leadership. According to Parris Peachey (2013), the key to understanding an organizations success is to study its leaders. A leader s ability to inspire, motive, and create a strong sense of engagement and commitment to the organization will determine the success or failure in the attainment of goals. Transformational, charismatic, and servant leadership are three styles that organizational leaders might possess. While there is no predetermined best style of leadership, one can describe leadership and management as situational. The overriding goal of any organization is building a high performing organization which is paramount for short and long term success (DeGraw Sizoo, 2013). Both the leader and the organization should select the most appropriate style to enhance organizations probability for effectiveness and attainment of desire goals.
