The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2. Routing : Definition
• A routing is a representation of
which operations (process
steps) have to be carried out
and in which order to produce
a material (product).
• Sequence of activities carried
out in the shop floor to
produce the material
3. Routing : Structure
• A routing is composed of a header and one or
more sequences.
• The header contains data that is valid for the
whole routing.
• A sequence is a series of operations.
• Operations describe individual process steps,
which are carried out during production
4. Assignment of Material to be produced and
Material Components
• The Material to be produced
is assigned to the routing
header.
• The components required for
production can be assigned
to each operation where it is
used.
5. Routing : Sequence
• A linear sequence of operations
(production steps), which are carried out
one after another, according to their
operation numbers.
• Standard Sequence : The system
automatically creates the standard
sequence, when you create a routing. It is
a linear series of operations.
6. Parallel and Alternative Sequence
• Parallel Sequence : A parallel sequence enables to process several
operations at the same time. A parallel sequence is carried out at the
same time as the corresponding section in the standard sequence. It
is a special form of overlapping operations.
• Alternative Sequence : A linear sequence of operations that is an
alternative to a sequence of operations in the standard sequence. The
alternative sequence is used if the production flow is different for
certain lot-size ranges (or)When the production flow changes under
certain business conditions like capacity conditions
7. Routing : Operation
• Operation describe the activity that is to be carried out during a
process step.
• The system uses operation data to determine dates, capacity
requirements and costs for a production process.
• Operation has the following data,
1. Control Key
2. External processing data
3. Standard Values
4. User Defined fields
5. Inspection specification
6. PRT
8. Routing : Operation data
• Control key determines,
1. Whether the operation is processed internally or externally by a vendor.
2. Whether dates, capacity requirements and costs are determined
3. Whether, afterwards in order processing, a confirmation can or must be made
• External processing data, which form the basis for externally processing operation
including scheduling and costing
• Sub Operation : Is subordinate to an operation and is used for more detailed
planning of the process step that is described in the operation.
• Standard values are planned values for the activities(Setup/Machine/Labor) to be
performed in the operation.
9. Routing : Operation data
• User-defined fields can be created with any customer-
defined data
• Inspection specifications for quality inspection during
the operation
• Production Resource tool is a moveable operating
resource/tool used in production can be assigned to
the operation
• Trigger Point in the operation can help to trigger other
business functions like start workflow task(send mail
to user/ release next operation etc..)
