The Underlying Methods Of Paramilitary Operations Used By...
This historical study will define the underlying methods of paramilitary operations used by white
Redeemers through the political platform of the Bourbon Democrats in the reconstitution of white rule
in the South. Paramilitary groups, such as the Ku Klux Klan and the Red Shirts of Mississippi, define
the terrorist methods of removing carpetbaggers and freedmen from positions of political power. The
dissolution of Reconstructionist methods of federal dominance over the South was eroded with the
removal of Federalist troops and Republicans from Southern state, which were redeemed by racially
divisive Redeemers. These violent/terrorist methods were part of the gradual increase in power by
Redeemers throughout the 1870s, 1880s, and into the 1890s. Secretive attacks on freedmen,
carpetbaggers, and other Republicans were an effective way in which to discourage the Reconstruction
reforms through the federal government. In essence, the violent methods of paramilitary operations by
white Redeemers were the primary method of reconstituting Democratic power in the South in the
post Civil War era. During the reconstruction era, the use of paramilitary operations by white
Redeemers was an important tool in removing freedmen, carpetbaggers, and members of the
Republican Party that held positions of power in local government. These white racist organizations
were part of the terrorist activities using violence and intimidation to discourage northerners and black
freedmen from

It Was One Rainy Day In Southern California. I Was On My
It was one rainy day in Southern California. I was on my way to school, riding shotgun. My day had
started off right. I did not mind the rain until I got out of the car. I heard a big splash. My feet were
soaked. I felt the cold water seeping into my socks.
Well this is a bad start to my day, I said out loud.
I walked inside school and rushed to class before I got another tardy slip. That would have really
ruined my day. Finally, I sat down at my favorite desk and waited for advisory to start. Advisory is a
twenty minute period where we learn about setting academic and life goals or about college. I loved
advisory because I could finish my homework or talk to my friends.
The next bell rang for first period. I had AP English Literature ... Show more content on

Hey, Estefany, what do you think about the book Ms. Wyatt is having us read? Estefany and Yvette,
my closest friends in AP English Literature. Among the three of us, Estefany is a total bookworm. She
loves books and enjoys writing fictional stories.
She replied, I love it, I have read it once before!
How can you like this book? I said out loud.
I gave her no time to reply, instead, I asked Yvette, What do you think about the book?
Yvette said, I don t know what to think, I barely read the first page because I did not know what I was
reading!
Same, I have no idea how I am going to write the essay, I said.
In my mind, I started thinking about how Ms. Wyatt expected me to write an essay about a book I didn
t even understand. I was so frustrated that I could feel my ears getting hot and turning red. The way I
felt reminded me of something I read the other day. It was a reading called Aria by Richard Rodriguez.
Richard was fluent in Spanish and was forced to learn English. It was difficult for him. He felt
surrounded by sounds both pleasing and fearful (28). As a result, he was shy to raise his hand in class
and felt intimidated by others who knew English. I was beginning to feel his pain. Even though I knew
English, the book I was being forced to read in Ms.

The Influence Of Punk Rock On Society And Other Subcultures
How did classic rock take a detour to the dark side?
 How did classic rock take such a swerve in to the other lane?
Why did punk rock so suddenly become such a substantial and influential genre (mainstream)?
How did punk rock affect society and other subcultures?
Punk rock developed in the late 60s and was considered the rebellious little brother of rock and roll ().
It is marked by extreme and deliberately offensive expressions of alienation and social discontent.
Punk has changed and shifted throughout the years, but is still an expression of rebellion and
dissatisfaction. It has given people the ability to express themselves.
In the 60s, punk rock was just beginning to develop. It started as garage bands and groups of teens

The Ethics Of The State Of Utah
In the state of Utah, statistically one in three women will be sexually assaulted in her lifetime, and one
in eight will be raped. (Morgan, E. 2014). Campuses nationwide, and specifically the state of Utah, are
feeling the weight of this issue impact the campus environment. In the past, the honor code system at
Brigham Young University interfered with the legal process, revictimized victims of rape and sexual
assault, and most importantly, sent a message to the student body that they should not report sexual
assault (Brown, 2016, p. 8). With the creation of an amnesty clause, BYU is setting a standard for
universities nationwide and an example of how students can advocate change for school policies.
BYU s amnesty clause shows the students that their safety is important, that they will do what it takes
to keep a campus safe, and that sexual violence will not be tolerated.
The Amnesty Clause to the Honor Code shows students that their safety while attending school is of
great importance to the administration. This clause was introduced this past October, after five months
of discussion by the Advisory Council on Campus Response to Sexual Assault as to how they should
adapt the Honor Code for victims of sexual violence. They pushed for 23 recommendations, which
were all passed, with five recommendations that were implemented immediately. (Walch, 2016).

Vertigo Essay
Vertigo (1958), directed by Alfred Hitchcock, is an American psychological thriller film that
communicates ideas, themes and issues through the use of its visual style. The visual stylistic choices
enable the exploration of madness, scopophilia and feminist film theory within the film. This paper
will critically analyse how this is realised mainly through the use of the Vertigo effect , spirals as a
motif, the male gaze and colour.
The theme of madness is a centerpiece to the film. Vertigo was the first film to utilize the dolly zoom
or the Vertigo effect , an effect that is intended to create the perception of disorientation (Wollen 1997,
p.14). The effect is meant to be a representation of Scottie s acrophobia. It conveys that he is falling
away from himself or to suggest that he is realizing that everything he once believed in is not true
(Wollen 1997, pp.14 15). Hitchcock also used the effect in the climax of the film when Scottie looks ...

58). This has contributed to audience viewing the female body as an object. By the end of the film it
could be argued that Judy turns into a doll and Midge turns into a painting. When Midge and Madeline
get the rare opportunity in cinema to view through the male gaze, they appear to be depressed when
looking at portraits of another women as the realize what men see them as.
Hitchcock however challenges the male gaze in this film. In a key scene in the film about two thirds
into it, Judy has a flashback which reveals to the audience what actually did occur on top of the bell
tower. This use of a female character being afforded a flashback is uncharacteristic and not
stereotypical in Hollywood films at the time and can been seen as attempting to change the stereotype
of the male gaze (Wollen 1997, pp. 16 18). This challenges the male gaze due to the lead female
character not being seen as a passive object for the first time in the

Entertainment During The Great Depression Essay
The average person working in the movie business in the 1930s made about $92,500 as someone
working a moderate job only made about $890 a year, equally (COH) about $12,500 today.
Throughout the Great Depression entertainment was an escape for people in America, which still
continues to be used today.
During the Great Depression entertainment such as movies, music/radio, and dancing provided people
with and escape from the harsh realities of what was going on around them. As for movies, while
(SUB) people in the 1930s were struggling because of their loss of jobs. Hollywood had entered what
was called the golden age ( Popular 2), the Hollywood golden age lasted from 1930 1950, and
consisted of people and new movies flourishing due to people s lack of work and extra free time,
popular examples of movies include: Snow White and the Seven dwarfs, The Wizard of Oz , King
Kong, Frankenstein , and Dracula. New people, specifically child star Shirley Temple ( The 1930s 1)
played a key role by influencing the younger population. Even though movies were popular, they had
to appeal to a mass audience in order to stay running ( The 1930s 1), in that sense cartoons and family
friendly movies we re most popular. The air conditioned theaters also provided people with a luxury
outside of their homes for a couple hours, after all seeing a movie only cost a person $0.27 ( Popular

Traditional Gyms And Small Gym
In this ethnography paper, I chose to study both large, commercial gyms and small, privately owned
gyms locally that I have attended or visited in recent weeks. In this paper I will refer to the gyms as
Big gym and Small gym , I will also refer to the gym members by randomly selected names that I ve
generated. This is to protect the identities of the of the businesses and gym members should the reader
by chance, know or be familiar with either the gyms or its members. The Big gym located 7 miles
away from my place of residence, and the Small gym, which is located 20 miles away from me, are
the locations from which I conducted my data collections and analysis. The focus group of my
research consist of each gym s members. In this discussion, I hope to answer, why these individuals
prefer the Big or Small gym over the other to meet their fitness goals, and what plays a role in their
decision making. We will discuss the different kinds of norms that are played out in both gyms, how
they differ, and whether or not they play a role in a decision between gyms. Most of us are familiar
with the Big Gym, there is likely to be one more in your local area, they are also called commercial
gyms. They are easily recognizable due to their size, the number of employees, and the number of
members attending. They usually have more than one location and seem to be driven more by how
many members they can acquire than on the personal care of the individual member. You may or may

Industrial Revolution 3
INDUSTRIAL STUDIES ASSIGNMENT NO 1 Development of Engineering since the Industrial
Revolution The Main Outcomes of the Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution had a huge
impact on society. The major effects were socially and economically. It is rather difficult to date the
start of the industrial revolution but history books of today suggest the onset during the 18th century.
The change from agriculture to industry was vast and it must be remembered that England was the
first country to undergo this profound change. The initial effect on engineering industries arising at the
start of the Industrial Revolution were due partly to the geographical location of the resources i.e. coal
iron and water. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The manufacture of bicycles, aircraft, and most predominantly the motor car increased with the
utilisation of all forms of electrically powered machines. There were also increases in all forms of
electrical engineering from light bulbs and radios to generating plant and machinery. Natural
Resources e.g. Coal Petrochemicals The British coal industry was the major contributor to the
Industrial Revolution. The industry utilised the first steam powered engines of Newcommen and many
more that followed. As production grew from these applications the new railways were used to
transport the vast amounts of coal being produced. In 1830 steam power could wind men and coal up
and down a few hundred feet. By the 1860s there were pithead engines of 1500 hp. For 100 years from
1850 coal made up more than half of the railways freight. In 1913 one out of every 14 British workers
was employed at a coalmine. In the same year there were 3,289 pits. Coal was used to power the giant
iron works and the textile industry. The gasworks of the early 1800s were burning thousands of tons
per year. The coal used in these gasworks was roasted and this resulted in coke as a waste product.
This coke was then sold on to the ironworks. In the 1860s British engineers were still improving the
steam engine. But there French and German counterparts were short of steam coal so they turned there
attention to gas. A

The Key to Solving The American Organ Allocation Essay

Every day in the United States twelve people die while waiting for an organ transplant list. Even if
someone receives an organ transplant there is no guarantee that it will function properly or if the
recipient will survive. If an organ is given to the person at the top of the list who has been on the list
the longest that person is most likely to be the sickest, weakest and generally older than others on the
list. When they receive the organ there is no guarantee that they will survive which would be a waste

Why Do Athletes Get Paid Too Much
Too Much Stephen Curry is paid about 11.37 million dollars a year. Are your parents paid that much
money for doing their job? Probably not. So, why are athletes like Stephen Curry making millions of
dollars a year for playing a sport? Athletes are paid way too high of a salary and it is unfair. The
American population seems to value entertainment more than the people who provide, teach, and
protect us. Is that really what we want America s message to be? In general, most athletes are drafted
into their sports team under the age of twenty seven and are not fully mature adults. These athletes are
paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a month, and this is a problem because, as young people,
spending money is a constant urge. Not all athletes are responsible, and being paid so much could
result in spending money on things that are harmful and dangerous, like alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs.

Nora s Transformation Essay
Throughout the dramatic play titled A Doll House , Henrik Ibsen s creation of the character Nora
changes immensely from the beginning to the end of the work. Some people may argue and question
the intentions of Nora, and describe her as a despicable and selfish woman; however, I see her as a
courageous and selfless woman, who longs to be treated as an equal to men. Nora s sacrifice for her
husband at the beginning unravels throughout the entirety of the play, and reveals a boundless
transformation of Nora into strong woman, who thrives off of the idea of becoming an equal, self
sufficient lady as she makes the brave decision to leave her family to better herself. In 1879 when this
drama was written, the duties of a woman rested solely on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Safak explains this deeper by saying, Nora demonstrates her strength in the last act of the play and she
distinguishes herself from the other members of her gender, who follow a mob mentality in the
general frame of the traditional woman perception (Safak 144). Nora did something for herself that
would have been unspeakable in her time of living during 1879. Women were supposed to be
dependent on a man for safety, security, and money, which Nora relied heavily on in the beginning of
the play. Now, she ventures out of the normal comfort zone of ladies and states, No, that s exactly it.
You don t understand me. And I ve never understood you either until tonight. No, don t interrupt. You
can just listen to what I have to say. We re closing out accounts, Torvald (Isben 866). This bold
decision to move on with her life, without the help of a man, is respectable and courageous of Nora.
From the beginning to the end of the play, Nora expresses reliance on others to self reliance. She
became a self sufficient woman, which she had been practicing with throughout the play while she
worked tirelessly to pay back the loan taken out for Torvald. Perhaps she panned her departure from
the opening of the play because she knew what the outcome would be. At last, she freed herself from

The Impact Of The Golden Age Of Literature
With the end of the conflict that resulted to the war between the United States of America and Great
Britain after the ratification of the Treaty of Ghent, America entered into an era that saw great changes
politically, economically, and socially. The presidential elections were more vibrant as more men
partook in the exercise, the industrial and economic growth was notably consistent with growth in
science, arts, and the textile industries, and the emancipation of slavery led to the end of that trade
with the civil war of 1861 to 1865. The crucial development of this century was the development and
changes that saw the beginning of a new era of politics. As result of the high political contention
between the Democrats and the Whigs, American would have twenty presidents between 1825 with
John Quincy Adams win and William McKinley in 1897. The presidential contention of 1824 between

A Transcultural Monument: Anna Akhmatova in Postsocialist Russia. South Atlantic Review. 74.2
(2009): 62 81. JSTOR. Web. 28 Feb. 2016. Written by Sarah A. Krive, from the Department of
Languages at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, the article, A Transcultural Monument:
Anna Akhmatova in Postsocialist Russia (2009), argues that Akhmatova was a postsocialist poet,
because she began producing her work at the end of Imperial Russia and throughout Soviet Russia,
until her death in 1966. She believes that Akhmatova was a symbol of strength in her stand against
Stalin, and subsequent persecution from his regime. Next she posits that Akhmatova achieved what
many Russians could not; she was able to make a permanent record of Stalin s reign through her
poetry. She emphasizes that instead of Russians internalizing the trauma, they turned to Akhmatova
and regarded her as the voice of Russia. In the second half of the piece, she details the creation and
collection of Akhmatova s poetry cycle Wreath for the Dead, an elegiac work. Krive discusses
elements of Akhmatova s work of poetry in order to express the importance of the poet as a
mouthpiece for Russia. Her audience appears to be any researcher who wishes to further understand
the relationship between Akhmatova and Russia. This article focuses on delivering a large measure of
information on Akhmatova s work of poetry, and this will aid the

Franz Kafka as a Hunger Artist
Through much of Franz Kafka s writing, the reader can see how his personal experiences and
viewpoints are clearly worked into his many stories. One of which stands out is his story A Hunger
Artist. In this story Kafka speaks through the hunger artist of the alienation and isolation he feels in
his own body, as well as the emptiness he feels as a result of the disconnected relationship he and his
father share. Ironically this emptiness manifests itself quite literally at the end of Kafka s life, when he
dies as a result of tuberculosis of the larynx, which causes him to literally starve to death, just as the
hunger artist in the story. It was said about his writing the early manifestations of authentic originality
were nurtured in solitary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like the hunger artist, he too lived in a state of constant want for both food and recognition, as he
longed for his father s acceptance. From the very beginning of Kaka s life, his family had been
organized by, around, and for the benefit of his overbearing father. As a result of his father s constant
criticisms, Kafka began to criticize himself, as he felt crushed by his ever present burden of guilt,
which he turned into self hatred. One of the most significant influences on Kafka s life and work was
his domineering father. Kafka s stories often contain themes drawn from the burden of his father s
tyranny in his home life, depicting settings of confinement as well as convoluted systems of
punishment and other expressions of seemingly all powerful authority. (Miline 100) He blames his
father for having robbed him of his childhood, never giving him the attention he is starving for, and
like the hunger artist, he spends his whole life seeking it. The most sustained account of Kafka s
childhood is seen by Kafka himself, contained in the fifty page

Some of the fundamental singularities that are not clarified are gravity, dark matter and dark energy,
neutrino masses, and matter anti matter symmetry. Throughout the standard model, it refers to the
ideas of hypothetical applications that are required to explain the insufficiencies of the standard
model. This includes the nature of dark matter and dark energy, and also the origins of mass. Another
error that may lie within the standard model is the inconsistencies and mathematics that lie within the
model itself. The standard model is majorly inconsistent just like the theory of general relativity, they

Medi A Thai Digital Media Company
SAWADDEE MEDIA
Abstract

Sawaddee Media is a Thai digital media company that has its headquarter at Bangkok, Thailand. It is
the parent company of the Sawaddee Vision which is a famous cable television operator. All Sawaddee
TV Appliances Stores, which are part of the company, provides free of charge digital television
information and services.
Sawaddee Media s sale performance for recent quarter is no good at all. The number makes it more
difficult for the company to promote the new set of upcoming television series that is going to be
launched in next year. Sawaddee Media s overall earnings are lower than the same quarter last year by

Success
Despite steep decline of recent sale number of our latest product, there are some positive signs that
show the potential recovery of our market. According to our official partnership back in July with True
Internet Corporation which is Thailand s largest Internet provider, this creates a perfect opportunity to
challenge the market share that Samsung and LG are holding on the electronic appliances industry.
Moreover, in OLED (organic light emitting diode) television market, Sawaddee Media is still Thailand
s largest television manufacturers in that area with a market share by far more than other players. The
company has close to defeat all rivals who are failing to compete in the tough competition from
Sawaddee Media in the OLED TV market section and instead cleverly focus mainly on their LCD
(Liquid Crystal Display) products. However, regardless of how good the products are, the company
need to look for another new television innovation to deviate attention towards Samsung s new LCD
TV technology.
Failure
What happen to Sawaddee Media can be obviously seen. It is Samsung s and LG s growing popularity
among the world television market. Last year, the company had to sell its DVD player business to the
Hitachi Group in order to generate money to support the latest television series which turned out to be
a big flop to the company. In the past, the company is used to be very adaptable to several business

Error Theory And Non-Naturalism Analysis
The most prominent objection to error theory is the moral realist theory of ethical non naturalism.
While error theory and non naturalism share two defining features, their fundamental differences
could not be greater. Non naturalism is built on the same initial claim as error theory; both views agree
that ethical sentences assert moral truths. Both outlooks also agree that moral properties are unlike any
natural property known to exist, meaning they are not reducible to non moral features. Non naturalists,
however, differ from error theorists in their belief that some moral truths asserted through ethical
sentences are actually true despite their queer properties. Furthermore, they believe that moral truths
are objective and cannot be influenced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He calls upon philosopher David Hume s argument that reason can never be an influencing motive of
the will (40). The Humean Theory of Motivation is centered around the idea moral motivation cannot
arise from moral belief alone but must depend as well upon a preexisting desire or other intrinsically
motivating state (Rosati). Preexisting desires do not provide actual moral motivation, the moral belief
just happens to be in accordance with a desire that is likely the main incentive for completing the
action. That leaves intrinsic motivation as the only option. Weak motivational internalism offers a
valid alternative to Mackie s motivational requirements of moral truths. Conflicting desires do
sometimes overpower morality, leading people to engage in behavior/events they feel are morally
wrong. Mental illnesses such as depression can also suppress motivation to abide by certain moral
values. The only viable response to these points is Mackie s claim that the Form of the Good provides
an end with to be pursuedness that is not dependent on the desires of the individual. Thus, the fact that
it is possible for these individuals to override their moral beliefs only further proves that these beliefs

Human Sexuality And Its Effects On Children And Young...
Much has been made of the role of human sexuality, yet little has been said about the importance of
learning about human sexuality. Sex has been the same since time began, and we cannot continue to
ignore the reality of what children are being exposed to. Being educated about these topics, being
educated, in general is important to me. Education is what will help this world with inequalities, and
so many other problems. Human sexuality has become one of the topics that have caught my attention
because no matter who you ask to express their views on sexuality the answer will inevitably be
different. This topic always leads to huge opinions that are one sided. Creating this online course
would help people around the world learn about human sexuality, and learn about the person they have
placed below them because of their sexuality. Sexuality education provides opportunities for students
to develop media literacy skills which are essential to help children and young people understand,
interpret, and evaluate media messages and imagery related to sexuality, relationships and gender.
Many factors affect people s views on sexuality; people s age, gender, environment, and other things

The Presidential Election of 2004 Essay
Analyze the Presidential election of 2004. What happened and why?
Analyze the changing nature of the media and how that is affecting politics.
The two questions identified above cannot be adequately answered alone without one influencing the
other because a campaign that influences the election of the most powerful position in the world is a
public event. However, after months of predictions of a too close to call contest, Bush won nationwide
balloting making him the 15th president elected to a second term and the first to win both a majority
of the popular vote and the Electoral College since his father in 1988. The GOP also extended its

Those who opposed the president did so because of his decision to go to war in Iraq and how it was

Voter turnout hit record highs nationally, and the total for Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney was
higher than any previous presidential ticket. Some of the greatest percentage gains over 2000 came in
13 states that were the battleground in the presidential election. Millions of dollars were spent on TV
ads and voter mobilization. Interestingly, Democratic strategists had predicted that turnout at those
levels would assure victory. But Democratic voter drives were matched in large part by Republicans,
particularly religious conservatives.
Voters conveyed a sense of urgency about Iraq, and their top priority for President Bush to tackle after
his re election. Iraq was followed by terrorism among voters leading concerns. Voters also conveyed

After a campaign dominated by discussion of Iraq and terrorism, national security issues were at the

The Law Of Unfair Terms Of Consumer Contracts
The law of unfair terms in consumer contracts have experienced changes over the years, the most
significant of which was the Consumer Rights Act which came into effect on October 1st 2015.
However, before the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (CRA 2015), unfair terms in consumer contracts were
covered under two pieces of legislation; the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977(UCTA 1977) and the
Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999 (UTCCR 1999) . The UCTA 1977 and
UTCCR 1999 provided liability for transactions occurring in the course of a business as well as
business and consumer contracts. Both UCTA 1977 and UTCCR 1999 provided protection for
consumers from terms in a contract so as to prevent them from being at a disadvantage for not read
contractual terms and conditions. The UCTA 1977 defined a consumer under s.12 (1) (a); as a party
dealing not in the course of a business and not holding himself to do so; while in s12 (1) (b) the other
party is acting in the course of a business. The UTCCR s definition was very narrow, Regulation 3
stated that a consumer must be a natural person that is not a legal person e.g. a company who contracts
outside his business.
The UCTA 1977 was a primary legislative whereas the UTCCR 1999 are an implementation of the

Dogs Encourage Better Health Essay
The young royals, Prince William and Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, created headlines last

dog s presence can affect the health of the future King and Queen. The latest addition to the Royal

inability to inherit the throne. Medical studies around the world have concluded dogs encourage better

The ownership of a dog can also lead to increases in physical activity and facilitate the development of
social contacts, which may enhance both physiological and psychological human health in a more
indirect manner.
Studies in Germany, Australia, and China point to dog ownership as sound public policy. An
examination of Chinese women (men were excluded) reported increased exercise, fewer doctor visits,
and diminished use of sick days at work when a dog is present in the home. Australian and German
dog owners were found to use free governmental health services less than the general populace. Pet
owners in those countries made approximately 12 to 15% fewer annual doctor visits than their petless
peers. German pet owners spent 32% fewer nights in a hospital. The benefits appeared particularly
strong for elderly people, the population group with the worst constitutions and heaviest use of health
services. The economic benefit was substantial, approximating savings in health expenditure of $5.59
billion for Germany and $3.86 billion for Australia annually.
As with everything in life, age can be a relevant or limiting factor to owning a dog. However, the
positives of dog ownership seem to outweigh negligible and manageable negatives. Surveys targeted
at pet owners 60 years and older showed less stress and loneliness, better nutrition, and a stronger
focus on the present. Seniors walking a dog enjoy a boost in parasympathetic nervous system

Heron of Alexandria, also referred to as hero, was a greek mathematician. Heron was a writer whose

Heron was sometimes transcribed correctly, while other times it became Hero. Soon the Romans and
Greek took up the nickname of Hero to men named Heron. This makes it very hard for historians to

Post World War II culture in the U.S was considered a very dark period as citizens were recovering
from actions of the war. However, citizens in America liked the fact that film noirs had reflected the
harsh point of view of everyday people in the streets and they craved to see real actors in real settings,
opposed to the studio built streets that they had watched previously in the 1930 s
(www.librarypoint.org). There was also a constant fear in the heart of most Americans as the Cold War
was present, and nuclear threats held their presence from the Soviet Union. This sense of pessimism
and mistrust in the American culture of the time had directly been portrayed in the U.S film industry in
the 1940 s as, Americans wanted a harsh view of society from the perspective of everyday people on
the streets (www.librarypoint.org). Therefore, The Postman Always Rings Twice, is a perfect example
of how Hollywood displayed these characteristics through the corrupt, unhappy fate of Frank
Chambers and Cora Smith.
In the film, The Postman Always Rings Twice, Frank Chambers stars as the classic anti hero .
Displayed fairly early in the story, Frank does indeed display many of the typical characteristics of an
anti hero in classic film noirs. In the first instance, Frank sees Nick driving back to the diner as he is
looking out the window with Cora. Nick almost runs into a semi while they are watching because he is
intoxicated. Frank reacts to Nick s near death

The Conflict And Functionalist Theories Behind Social Class
Inequality materializes the upper class, vulgarizes our middle class, brutalizes our lower class. In
Australia, social class is a widely recognised concept, however some individuals, particularly the
wealthy people, will argue that social class in non existent, that with hard work anyone can achieve,
what they set their mind onto. The social stratification system, is based on objective criteria, including
wealth, power, and prestige. The Australian notion of equal opportunity, insinuates that social class
does not affect, the opportunities someone will have in life. However many sociologist, will argue that
social class does create an underlying disadvantage, amongst groups in society, in particular education
and health, of an individual is impacted. In this essay, I will strive to critically examine, the conflict
and functionalist theories, behind social class. This will allow me to determine, weather some groups
are constrained, or advantaged, by their current social status.
Max Weber (1864 1920), a well known German sociologist, saw society was organised into status
groups, with a common lifestyle. There are three factors, that determine an individuals chances in life
which are, economic, status and power. When all these factors are combined, these elements create
better circumstances, for an individual. It can therefore be noted, that an individuals social class, can
have a large influence, on many parts of their life. A significant issue for sociologist and society, is

There are many problems that global warming will make to our environment and it has already
impacted it over time. Although, there are many problems, there are also solutions to stop global
warming. Climate change is most closely related to global warming and many scientists have found
ways to try and put a stop to it.

Global warming also causes intense weather and weather patterns. When the ocean water heats up,
then that means it will create hurricanes and as the Earth continues to heat up then it will make even
stronger hurricanes over time. Hurricanes are increasing because in some ocean basins, hurricane
intensification has been linked to rising ocean temperatures (Global Warming Impacts). Other times of
weather that can occur in some areas are flooded because of excess precipitation. Excess precipitation
can be a bad thing because flooding is destroying a lot of things, for example military bases near the
coast. Wildfires are beginning to occur more often now since the Earth is heating up which is a
disaster because that affects plants and animals. If wildfires occur, then many forests will die and that
will pollute the air even more. `
There are a few solutions to stop global warming and the most common one is to reduce the burning
of fossil fuels. Whenever people use an automobile, a car, bus, or plane, then that is polluting the air,
which will warm the Earth because the ozone layer is getting destroyed. Although many people have
to have transportation, if they cut down on their driving or got more energy efficient cars then it would
help a lot. The car that you buy is a very important factor because each gallon of gas you use is
responsible for 25 pounds of heat trapping gases in the atmosphere (Ten). Whenever people burn fossil

Geryon is a subjective character. He is removed from the rest of the world and is therefore not subject

is not a feasible idea to have a person who is red and has wings. This makes him a subjective character
because he is unlike the rest and challenges the convention of the typical human character. Even the

He was born October 25, 1881 and died april 8, 1973 at the age of 91, in Mougins, france. Picasso
demonstrated extraordinary artistic talent in his early years, painting in a naturalistic manner through

The Repercussion of Fracking
Is there anything better that a cool glass of water on a hot day or a swim in a clear blue lake? We need
water for drinking, and we need it for recreation. We use it in a thousand ways. Without it, we could
not survive. Yet with more and more people on our planet, we are using a lot and also using it
carelessly and that is effecting our everyday living.
You can t walk across a college campus, past an office building, or through a park without seeing one,
two, or ten empty bottles. Many are plastic water bottles. Trash bins overflow them. Those water
bottles are a problem. Why? Because only one out of five bottles actually makes it to a recycling bin.
Plastic bottles take centuries to decompose and if they are incinerated, toxic byproducts, such as
chlorine gas and ash containing heavy metals, are releasing into the atmosphere. The rest are littered
on our streets or over filing our landfills. They degrade our landscape and damage our environment. In
addition the plastic water bottles are not biodegradable that is, they don t decay. They remain as trash a
hundreds of years.
Making all the plastic for those bottles uses 17 million barrels of crude oil annually. That is the
equivalent to the fuel needed to keep 1 million vehicles on the road for 12 months so why are so many
people drinking bottled waters? They believe that they are making a healthy choice. But the truth is
that tap water is just as safe, often safer than bottled water. In fact, some bottled water is

The Dispute Over Agricultural Trade Liberalization Between...
In 2002, a dispute over agricultural trade liberalization between the United States and Brazil arose.
Brazil filed a lawsuit against the United Stated in the World Trade Organization Dispute (WTO)
Settlement System arguing that the subsidies the United States provided to US farmers violated WTO
trade agreements and gave US farmers unfair advantages (Unit 7, lesson 5). Fortunately for Brazil, the
World Trade Organization agreed with their claim and authorized them to take punitive measures
against the United States (Cengage unit 7, 3). As a result of that authorization, Brazil decided to
impose tariffs and lift patent protections on US goods (Cengage unit 7, 3). In order to limit the damage
that could have been created by Brazil s actions, the United States had to make a smart move. As a
matter of fact, they decided to provide cottons to Brazilians rather than removing the subsidies. Over
150 Million in subsidies have been provided to the Brazilians, in 2010 so that Brazil do not impose
punitive measures (Cengage unit 7, 3). There exists both, pros and cons for subsidizing U.S. farmers.
In fact, US farmer strongly support subsidies claiming that it gives the US an important industry and
helps the regulations. However, subsidizing US farmers has some consequences. The cons argue that
subsidies provided to US agricultural producers create inefficiency in the global economy (unit 7).
Also, according to economists, subsidizing stands in the way of the economy growth

Jacob Deception Research Paper
Although Jacob had committed many deceitful acts against Esau, such as tricking him in giving up his
birthright to Jacob and taking Isaac s blessing also, Jacob was not punished at all by Esau or God. For
instance, in Genesis 32:35 before Jacob went to meet Esau, he is wrestling with God disguised as a
man. This scene is important because this is when Jacob tells the man his name leading him to admit
what he has done and who he is, a deceiver. The man told Jacob Your name shall no longer be Jacob,
but Israel, for you have striven with beings divine and human, and have prevailed (Genesis 32:29),
leading God to rename him and also blessing him, although he had committed many wrongdoings by
deceiving Esau. Another example that Jacob was exempted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Jacob wanted to marry Rachel the younger daughter of Laban so he made a deal with her father that he
will work seven years for him to have Rachel as his wife. Laban agreed, however, after seven years
Laban had deceived Jacob by having him marry Leah. This in a way was Leah deceiving Jacob and
Rachel through her father s action, which Laban explained to Jacob, It is not the practice in our place
to marry off the younger before the older (Genesis 30:26). This shows that Laban reason was common
back then because Jacob wanting Rachel to be his wife was defying natural order of things because he
is choosing the youngest and not the oldest, which it has been practice then to choose the oldest before
the youngest. This was a positive attribute and bonus for Leah, because as the text stated, Lead had
weak eyes; Rachel was shapely and beautiful. Jacob loved Rachel; (Genesis 29:17 29:18). This means
that while Rachel was beautiful and attractive, Leah was not at all in which she had a low chance to
get marry due to her unattractiveness. Marrying Jacob was one of the rewards that Leah had received
by deceiving both Rachel and

Energy Gap Between Electron Shells
Numerous metals and different substances radiate splendid shades of obvious light when they are
warmed. The colors originate from electrons moving between energy levels. The energy gaps between
their electron shells relate with the energy of the colour they give off. so the energy of every colour of
light matches the energy gaps between electron shells in different atoms.
Electrons are orchestrated into energy levels. Shells are concentric districts of electron thickness that
are fixated on the core(nucleus) of the atom. The bigger the shell, the further its electrons are from the
nucleus and the higher their energy is is. electrons fill the most reduced shells before filling higher
shells. So there are shells, and there are energy gaps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When white light (which is made of all the colors of the rainbow) strikes a red object, its atoms
specifically absorb and re emit red light; all the other colors of light simply cause the object to get a
bit warmer.
At the point when a fire works blast, it conveys smoldering protuberances that contain, in addition to
other things, metal salts. These metal salts are warmed and start sparkle in fabulous hues. Metal salts
that are regularly utilized as a part of fireworks presentations include: strontium carbonate (red
fireworks), calcium chloride (orange fireworks), sodium nitrate (yellow fireworks), barium chloride
(green fireworks) and copper chloride (blue fireworks). Purple fireworks are typically produced by use
of a mixture of strontium (red) and copper (blue) compounds.
The metal salts are stuffed into a firecracker tiny pellets called stars. After a firecracker is lighten, a lift
charge moves the firecracker into the sky while a circuit gradually blazes into the inside of the
firecracker shell. As the circuit achieves the center of the firecracker, it blasts lighting the stars that

Disadvantages Of Union City
Union City, Pennsylvania is where I have lived my entire life. It is a great, small, friendly town,
depending on who you ask. Over the span of my lifetime, I have heard comments that vary about the
residents overall satisfaction with Union City. To me, it is about neutral because the several
advantages and disadvantages are nearly equal in my eyes. However, depending on your home life,
social status, and personal liking, Union City may or may not be the town for you. Over the years, I
become more thankful for my hometown because of the low crime rate unlike many other cities.
Union City, previously known as Miles Mills ( History of Union City, PA ), was discovered by David
Watts and William Mills in the year 1785 ( History... ). At one time, Union City, was considered The
Chair Center of the World due to all the sawmills and chair factories within the city ( History... ). But
sadly, now the town is only referred to as Incest City or Union Shitty, which is offensive to the citizens
of the town. The sawmills and chair factories in the earlier centuries, currently are not functioning or
have burned down in recent years, including the Ethan Allen building which burned down during my
lifetime in 2010. The history of Union City may not be as exciting compared to larger cities, but it
means so much to the residents or ancestors of people from here. The town of Union City is a very
small, friendly, tight knit community. As a citizen, me nor my family have never had any

The Greek Of Greek Tragedy
Luke Allis, Greek Theatre
Ancient Greek tragedy is still relevant today because the themes and issues expressed within it are still
present in the 21st century such as undeserved suffering, death and relationships. The greeks produced
many great works of art and theatre as well as revolutionising politics, ethics, aesthetics and
philosophy with philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle and their theories such as their theories on
form and Catharsis.
Many people suggest that modern day theatre and performance is derived directly from Ancient Greek
Theatre and Myths. Just life we do with politics, ethics, aesthetics and philosophy look to the greeks
as the founders and while it is possible that this is true this itself is also a myth. The ancient greek
empire ended almost 150 years BC, about 2066 years ago. In that time a lot of information regarding it
and it s theatre has been lost or distorted (such as the destruction of The Library Of Alexandria) and
thus we can t be certain that the information is 100% correct which means that this itself is a myth, we
have evidence that points towards theatre originating from Ancient Greece but we can t be certain
because there is also evidence pointing toward it originating from various other cultures from around
the world such as the Egyptian Coronation Festival Play 3100 BC (History of theatre timeline,
Glencoe.com) or primitive tribal dances and religious rituals dating even earlier than that.

Judges Are Judges Vulnerable To Biases
Even though it is hard for people to admit, judges can fall prey to biases. After several studies,
researchers use the term cognitive biases to categorize the group of decision errors that can be made
by judges. Researchers have found that judges appear to be similar to juries in their inability to
disregard legally prejudicial and impermissible facts when deciding on a verdict. Three types of
cognitive biases or illusions have been identified as those which trail judges are most vulnerable.
These include anchoring, hindsight bias, and egocentric biases. These will all be explained further,
including examples. The first type of bias is anchoring, which is very common among civil cases. It
involves giving excessive weight to the initial starting value, the ... Show more content on

This is the tendency to change a previous judgment or decision in the direction of newly provided
information. This is one of the most common errors in everyday human judgement and prediction.
Legal scholars have noted that it is rare to expect people to predict the outcome of past events in real
life. However, people in law are asked to make the type of judgment quite often. Since courts usually
evaluate events after they have happened, judges are extremely vulnerable to hindsight bias.
Researchers note that judges could not help but rely on information that was not available before a
relevant event took place, but that later became available. The susceptibility to hindsight bias is
troubling because judges are frequently expected to suppress their knowledge of some set of facts
before making decisions. An example of this bias can be seen from exactly this. Judges are to ignore
their knowledge of the outcome of a police search for purposes of determining whether the officers
had probable cause to conduct said search. If the evidence found during the search was damning, this
could prove to be incredibly difficult for the judge to write off when making their

  • 2. The Underlying Methods Of Paramilitary Operations Used By... This historical study will define the underlying methods of paramilitary operations used by white Redeemers through the political platform of the Bourbon Democrats in the reconstitution of white rule in the South. Paramilitary groups, such as the Ku Klux Klan and the Red Shirts of Mississippi, define the terrorist methods of removing carpetbaggers and freedmen from positions of political power. The dissolution of Reconstructionist methods of federal dominance over the South was eroded with the removal of Federalist troops and Republicans from Southern state, which were redeemed by racially divisive Redeemers. These violent/terrorist methods were part of the gradual increase in power by Redeemers throughout the 1870s, 1880s, and into the 1890s. Secretive attacks on freedmen, carpetbaggers, and other Republicans were an effective way in which to discourage the Reconstruction reforms through the federal government. In essence, the violent methods of paramilitary operations by white Redeemers were the primary method of reconstituting Democratic power in the South in the post Civil War era. During the reconstruction era, the use of paramilitary operations by white Redeemers was an important tool in removing freedmen, carpetbaggers, and members of the Republican Party that held positions of power in local government. These white racist organizations were part of the terrorist activities using violence and intimidation to discourage northerners and black freedmen from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I did not mind the rain until I got out of the car. I heard a big splash. My feet were soaked. I felt the cold water seeping into my socks. Well this is a bad start to my day, I said out loud. I walked inside school and rushed to class before I got another tardy slip. That would have really ruined my day. Finally, I sat down at my favorite desk and waited for advisory to start. Estefany and Yvette, my closest friends in AP English Literature. Among the three of us, Estefany is a total bookworm. She loves books and enjoys writing fictional stories. She replied, I love it, I have read it once before! How can you like this book? I said out loud. I gave her no time to reply, instead, I asked Yvette, What do you think about the book? Yvette said, I don t know what to think, I barely read the first page because I did not know what I was reading! Same, I have no idea how I am going to write the essay, I said. In my mind, I started thinking about how Ms. Wyatt expected me to write an essay about a book I didn t even understand. I was so frustrated that I could feel my ears getting hot and turning red. The way I felt reminded me of something I read the other day. It was a reading called Aria by Richard Rodriguez. Richard was fluent in Spanish and was forced to learn English. It was difficult for him. He felt surrounded by sounds both pleasing and fearful (28). As a result, he was shy to raise his hand in class and felt intimidated by others who knew English. Punk rock developed in the late 60s and was considered the rebellious little brother of rock and roll (). Campuses nationwide, and specifically the state of Utah, are feeling the weight of this issue impact the campus environment. In the past, the honor code system at Brigham Young University interfered with the legal process, revictimized victims of rape and sexual assault, and most importantly, sent a message to the student body that they should not report sexual assault (Brown, 2016, p. 8). With the creation of an amnesty clause, BYU is setting a standard for universities nationwide and an example of how students can advocate change for school policies. BYU s amnesty clause shows the students that their safety is important, that they will do what it takes to keep a campus safe, and that sexual violence will not be tolerated. The Amnesty Clause to the Honor Code shows students that their safety while attending school is of great importance to the administration. This clause was introduced this past October, after five months of discussion by the Advisory Council on Campus Response to Sexual Assault as to how they should adapt the Honor Code for victims of sexual violence. They pushed for 23 recommendations, which were all passed, with five recommendations that were implemented immediately. (Walch, 2016). • 8. Vertigo Essay Vertigo (1958), directed by Alfred Hitchcock, is an American psychological thriller film that communicates ideas, themes and issues through the use of its visual style. The visual stylistic choices enable the exploration of madness, scopophilia and feminist film theory within the film. This paper will critically analyse how this is realised mainly through the use of the Vertigo effect , spirals as a motif, the male gaze and colour. The theme of madness is a centerpiece to the film. Vertigo was the first film to utilize the dolly zoom or the Vertigo effect , an effect that is intended to create the perception of disorientation (Wollen 1997, p.14). The effect is meant to be a representation of Scottie s acrophobia. It conveys that he is falling away from himself or to suggest that he is realizing that everything he once believed in is not true (Wollen 1997, pp.14 15). Hitchcock also used the effect in the climax of the film when Scottie looks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 58). This has contributed to audience viewing the female body as an object. When Midge and Madeline get the rare opportunity in cinema to view through the male gaze, they appear to be depressed when looking at portraits of another women as the realize what men see them as. Hitchcock however challenges the male gaze in this film. In a key scene in the film about two thirds into it, Judy has a flashback which reveals to the audience what actually did occur on top of the bell tower. This use of a female character being afforded a flashback is uncharacteristic and not stereotypical in Hollywood films at the time and can been seen as attempting to change the stereotype of the male gaze (Wollen 1997, pp. 16 18). This challenges the male gaze due to the lead female character not being seen as a passive object for the first time in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout the Great Depression entertainment was an escape for people in America, which still continues to be used today. As for movies, while (SUB) people in the 1930s were struggling because of their loss of jobs. This is to protect the identities of the of the businesses and gym members should the reader by chance, know or be familiar with either the gyms or its members. The Big gym located 7 miles away from my place of residence, and the Small gym, which is located 20 miles away from me, are the locations from which I conducted my data collections and analysis. The focus group of my research consist of each gym s members. They defied it the used witty figures of speech, effusive praise with tragic complaints, oh the audacity. Since they did this though they helped build the Romanticism Movement. One of Wordsworth s poems is Lines Composed a Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey or for short Tintern Abbey. This poem is about Wordsworth s trip after 5 long years back to an old, abandoned Abbey in Wales with his sister Dorothy. The industry utilised the first steam powered engines of Newcommen and many more that followed. As production grew from these applications the new railways were used to transport the vast amounts of coal being produced. In 1830 steam power could wind men and coal up and down a few hundred feet. By the 1860s there were pithead engines of 1500 hp. For 100 years from 1850 coal made up more than half of the railways freight. In 1913 one out of every 14 British workers was employed at a coalmine. In the same year there were 3,289 pits. Coal was used to power the giant iron works and the textile industry. The gasworks of the early 1800s were burning thousands of tons per year. The coal used in these gasworks was roasted and this resulted in coke as a waste product. This coke was then sold on to the ironworks. In the 1860s British engineers were still improving the steam engine. If an organ is given to the person at the top of the list who has been on the list the longest that person is most likely to be the sickest, weakest and generally older than others on the list. When they receive the organ there is no guarantee that they will survive which would be a waste of a good organ. Hearts are an example of an organ that needs to be given to the right patient in order for the transplantation to be a success. Generally if a person receives a heart transplant before the age of 55 have a higher potential rate of living ten years after the operation then those 55 and older. A surgical resident at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and the leader of the study published in The Annals of Thoracic Surgery stated There are 2,000 to 2,500 heart transplants a year in the U.S. and many people die waiting. We have to be very smart about how to allocate scarce organs, and our research suggests we can predict which patients will live longer with a new heart. In order to have a higher success rate of long term successful transplants organs should no be given to the person on the top of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So, why are athletes like Stephen Curry making millions of dollars a year for playing a sport? Athletes are paid way too high of a salary and it is unfair. The American population seems to value entertainment more than the people who provide, teach, and protect us. Is that really what we want America s message to be? In general, most athletes are drafted into their sports team under the age of twenty seven and are not fully mature adults. These athletes are paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a month, and this is a problem because, as young people, spending money is a constant urge. Not all athletes are responsible, and being paid so much could result in spending money on things that are harmful and dangerous, like alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs. Some people may argue and question the intentions of Nora, and describe her as a despicable and selfish woman; however, I see her as a courageous and selfless woman, who longs to be treated as an equal to men. Nora s sacrifice for her husband at the beginning unravels throughout the entirety of the play, and reveals a boundless transformation of Nora into strong woman, who thrives off of the idea of becoming an equal, self sufficient lady as she makes the brave decision to leave her family to better herself. Safak explains this deeper by saying, Nora demonstrates her strength in the last act of the play and she distinguishes herself from the other members of her gender, who follow a mob mentality in the general frame of the traditional woman perception (Safak 144). Nora did something for herself that would have been unspeakable in her time of living during 1879. Women were supposed to be dependent on a man for safety, security, and money, which Nora relied heavily on in the beginning of the play. Now, she ventures out of the normal comfort zone of ladies and states, No, that s exactly it. You don t understand me. And I ve never understood you either until tonight. No, don t interrupt. She became a self sufficient woman, which she had been practicing with throughout the play while she worked tirelessly to pay back the loan taken out for Torvald. The Impact Of The Golden Age Of Literature With the end of the conflict that resulted to the war between the United States of America and Great Britain after the ratification of the Treaty of Ghent, America entered into an era that saw great changes politically, economically, and socially. She believes that Akhmatova was a symbol of strength in her stand against Stalin, and subsequent persecution from his regime. Next she posits that Akhmatova achieved what many Russians could not; she was able to make a permanent record of Stalin s reign through her poetry. She emphasizes that instead of Russians internalizing the trauma, they turned to Akhmatova and regarded her as the voice of Russia. While error theory and non naturalism share two defining features, their fundamental differences could not be greater. Both outlooks also agree that moral properties are unlike any natural property known to exist, meaning they are not reducible to non moral features. Preexisting desires do not provide actual moral motivation, the moral belief just happens to be in accordance with a desire that is likely the main incentive for completing the action. That leaves intrinsic motivation as the only option. Weak motivational internalism offers a valid alternative to Mackie s motivational requirements of moral truths. Conflicting desires do sometimes overpower morality, leading people to engage in behavior/events they feel are morally wrong. Mental illnesses such as depression can also suppress motivation to abide by certain moral values. The only viable response to these points is Mackie s claim that the Form of the Good provides an end with to be pursuedness that is not dependent on the desires of the individual. Max Weber (1864 1920), a well known German sociologist, saw society was organised into status groups, with a common lifestyle. There are three factors, that determine an individuals chances in life which are, economic, status and power. When all these factors are combined, these elements create better circumstances, for an individual. It can therefore be noted, that an individuals social class, can have a large influence, on many parts of their life. A significant issue for sociologist and society, is ... Global Warming Is A Big Problem Chandler Easter Mrs. Gallos English 3 Global Warming Global warming is a big problem and impacts our environment in a negative way because it is heating the Earth. Global warming impacts all of the life around us even though not many people recognize it. There are many problems that global warming will make to our environment and it has already impacted it over time. Although, there are many problems, there are also solutions to stop global warming. Climate change is most closely related to global warming and many scientists have found ways to try and put a stop to it. One of the biggest problems of global warming is the global climate change that is occurring. Some examples of how it is changing is that temperatures are rising and have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Global warming also causes intense weather and weather patterns. When the ocean water heats up, then that means it will create hurricanes and as the Earth continues to heat up then it will make even stronger hurricanes over time. Hurricanes are increasing because in some ocean basins, hurricane intensification has been linked to rising ocean temperatures (Global Warming Impacts). Other times of weather that can occur in some areas are flooded because of excess precipitation. Excess precipitation can be a bad thing because flooding is destroying a lot of things, for example military bases near the coast. Wildfires are beginning to occur more often now since the Earth is heating up which is a disaster because that affects plants and animals. If wildfires occur, then many forests will die and that will pollute the air even more. ` There are a few solutions to stop global warming and the most common one is to reduce the burning of fossil fuels. Whenever people use an automobile, a car, bus, or plane, then that is polluting the air, which will warm the Earth because the ozone layer is getting destroyed. Although many people have to have transportation, if they cut down on their driving or got more energy efficient cars then it would help a lot. The car that you buy is a very important factor because each gallon of gas you use is responsible for 25 pounds of heat trapping gases in the atmosphere (Ten). • 38. Subjective Reality in Anne Carson s Autobiography of Red... Subjective Reality in Anne Carson s Autobiography of Red Anne Carson s Autobiography of Red is a world of subjective reality. Carson explores the relationship between subject and object through a reworking of an original Greek myth. The original myth is of Herakles, who s tenth labor was to kill Geryon, a red winged monster who lived on an island, and steal his cattle. Carson takes the insignificant character of Geryon and creates a story based on his life, as if set in modern times. Autobiography of Red enters a world of ambiguity, where all objects are challenged and made into subjects. Geryon is the subject of Autobiography of Red. The title alone delineates the fact that Geryon writes this story about himself. It is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Geryon is making a waste of a fairly significant amount of money, his mother does not stop him. He creates his autobiography as he wants it and on his own terms. Geryon is not being objectified in his autobiography by being told how to create it. Geryon truly writes his own autobiography. Geryon is a subjective character. He is removed from the rest of the world and is therefore not subject to its reality. He is subject only to his own. This is immediately apparent through the fact that he is red and has wings. Geryon is the only character in the novel who is physically different from the others. It is not a feasible idea to have a person who is red and has wings. This makes him a subjective character because he is unlike the rest and challenges the convention of the typical human character. Even the reality of a corridor is a completely different reality for Geryon: Between Main Door and Kindergarten ran a corridor. To Geryon it was / a hundred thousand miles / of thunder tunnels and indoor neon sky slammed open by giants. (24). What is for most a simple corridor is extremely terrifying for Geryon. The objective reality of the corridor as merely a walkway between the main door and kindergarten becomes a subjective reality to Geryon when he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We use it in a thousand ways. Without it, we could not survive. Yet with more and more people on our planet, we are using a lot and also using it carelessly and that is effecting our everyday living. You can t walk across a college campus, past an office building, or through a park without seeing one, two, or ten empty bottles. Many are plastic water bottles. Trash bins overflow them. Those water bottles are a problem. Why? Because only one out of five bottles actually makes it to a recycling bin. Plastic bottles take centuries to decompose and if they are incinerated, toxic byproducts, such as chlorine gas and ash containing heavy metals, are releasing into the atmosphere. The rest are littered on our streets or over filing our landfills. They degrade our landscape and damage our environment. In addition the plastic water bottles are not biodegradable that is, they don t decay. They remain as trash a hundreds of years. Making all the plastic for those bottles uses 17 million barrels of crude oil annually. That is the equivalent to the fuel needed to keep 1 million vehicles on the road for 12 months so why are so many people drinking bottled waters? They believe that they are making a healthy choice. But the truth is that tap water is just as safe, often safer than bottled water. In fact, some bottled water is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Dispute Over Agricultural Trade Liberalization Between... In 2002, a dispute over agricultural trade liberalization between the United States and Brazil arose. Brazil filed a lawsuit against the United Stated in the World Trade Organization Dispute (WTO) Settlement System arguing that the subsidies the United States provided to US farmers violated WTO trade agreements and gave US farmers unfair advantages (Unit 7, lesson 5). Fortunately for Brazil, the World Trade Organization agreed with their claim and authorized them to take punitive measures against the United States (Cengage unit 7, 3). As a result of that authorization, Brazil decided to impose tariffs and lift patent protections on US goods (Cengage unit 7, 3). In order to limit the damage that could have been created by Brazil s actions, the United States had to make a smart move. As a matter of fact, they decided to provide cottons to Brazilians rather than removing the subsidies. Over 150 Million in subsidies have been provided to the Brazilians, in 2010 so that Brazil do not impose punitive measures (Cengage unit 7, 3). There exists both, pros and cons for subsidizing U.S. farmers. In fact, US farmer strongly support subsidies claiming that it gives the US an important industry and helps the regulations. However, subsidizing US farmers has some consequences. The cons argue that subsidies provided to US agricultural producers create inefficiency in the global economy (unit 7). Jacob Deception Research Paper Although Jacob had committed many deceitful acts against Esau, such as tricking him in giving up his birthright to Jacob and taking Isaac s blessing also, Jacob was not punished at all by Esau or God. For instance, in Genesis 32:35 before Jacob went to meet Esau, he is wrestling with God disguised as a man. This scene is important because this is when Jacob tells the man his name leading him to admit what he has done and who he is, a deceiver. The man told Jacob Your name shall no longer be Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with beings divine and human, and have prevailed (Genesis 32:29), leading God to rename him and also blessing him, although he had committed many wrongdoings by deceiving Esau. This shows that Laban reason was common back then because Jacob wanting Rachel to be his wife was defying natural order of things because he is choosing the youngest and not the oldest, which it has been practice then to choose the oldest before the youngest. This was a positive attribute and bonus for Leah, because as the text stated, Lead had weak eyes; Rachel was shapely and beautiful. Jacob loved Rachel; (Genesis 29:17 29:18). The colors originate from electrons moving between energy levels. The energy gaps between their electron shells relate with the energy of the colour they give off. so the energy of every colour of light matches the energy gaps between electron shells in different atoms. Electrons are orchestrated into energy levels. Shells are concentric districts of electron thickness that are fixated on the core(nucleus) of the atom. The bigger the shell, the further its electrons are from the nucleus and the higher their energy is is. electrons fill the most reduced shells before filling higher shells. Over the span of my lifetime, I have heard comments that vary about the residents overall satisfaction with Union City. However, depending on your home life, social status, and personal liking, Union City may or may not be the town for you. • 46. The Greek Of Greek Tragedy Luke Allis, Greek Theatre Ancient Greek tragedy is still relevant today because the themes and issues expressed within it are still present in the 21st century such as undeserved suffering, death and relationships. The greeks produced many great works of art and theatre as well as revolutionising politics, ethics, aesthetics and philosophy with philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle and their theories such as their theories on form and Catharsis. Many people suggest that modern day theatre and performance is derived directly from Ancient Greek Theatre and Myths. Just life we do with politics, ethics, aesthetics and philosophy look to the greeks as the founders and while it is possible that this is true this itself is also a myth. The ancient greek empire ended almost 150 years BC, about 2066 years ago. In that time a lot of information regarding it and it s theatre has been lost or distorted (such as the destruction of The Library Of Alexandria) and thus we can t be certain that the information is 100% correct which means that this itself is a myth, we have evidence that points towards theatre originating from Ancient Greece but we can t be certain because there is also evidence pointing toward it originating from various other cultures from around the world such as the Egyptian Coronation Festival Play 3100 BC (History of theatre timeline, Glencoe.com) or primitive tribal dances and religious rituals dating even earlier than that. After several studies, researchers use the term cognitive biases to categorize the group of decision errors that can be made by judges. Researchers have found that judges appear to be similar to juries in their inability to disregard legally prejudicial and impermissible facts when deciding on a verdict. Three types of cognitive biases or illusions have been identified as those which trail judges are most vulnerable. These include anchoring, hindsight bias, and egocentric biases. These will all be explained further, including examples. The first type of bias is anchoring, which is very common among civil cases. It involves giving excessive weight to the initial starting value, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the tendency to change a previous judgment or decision in the direction of newly provided information. This is one of the most common errors in everyday human judgement and prediction. Legal scholars have noted that it is rare to expect people to predict the outcome of past events in real life. However, people in law are asked to make the type of judgment quite often. Since courts usually evaluate events after they have happened, judges are extremely vulnerable to hindsight bias. Researchers note that judges could not help but rely on information that was not available before a relevant event took place, but that later became available. The susceptibility to hindsight bias is troubling because judges are frequently expected to suppress their knowledge of some set of facts before making decisions. An example of this bias can be seen from exactly this. Judges are to ignore their knowledge of the outcome of a police search for purposes of determining whether the officers had probable cause to conduct said search. If the evidence found during the search was damning, this could prove to be incredibly difficult for the judge to write off when making their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
