Grow Up-Personal Narrative
As the bright, golden sun lazily rose in the early morning sky, Bridgette Becker sat in her plush
bed with her younger sister, Margot. The two girls were still very tired, as they had woken up
much earlier than usual to prepare for arrival of some family members. Their mother had told them
that a familyemergency had come up, hence the sudden visit. As Bridgette slowly began to rise to
clean and get ready, her mother burst into the room, looking very busy and frazzled. When her
mother was like this, Bridgette knew to be polite and on her absolute best behavior. Mama, what s
wrong? Do you need something? Bridgette sweetly asked. No. No, liefje, I m fine. I just want to

you said, he is partially responsible. He should be held accountable, and one day he will be.
Until then, you just have to do what s best for you and Gretel. Wallow in this loss. No one ever

Bolshevik Propaganda Research Paper
With the civil war ending in October 1922, the Bolsheviks launched a more inappropriate
propaganda directed at common religions. In 1922, the Central Committee created the Anti
Religious Commission, chaired by Emelian Iaroslavskii. Iaroslavskii was a well known
Bolshevik and one of the earliest leaders of militant atheism; in 1917, he partook in the
Bolshevik takeover of Moscow and became the first commissar of the Moscow region.
Throughout the 1920s, Iaroslavskii was secretary of the Central Control Commission of the
Communist party and was on the editorial board of the anti religious paper Bezbozhik. The
Central Committee was eventually abolished in 1929, and Iaroslavskii supervised the newly
created League of the Godless. By 1930 the League alleged to have more than two million
members. Previously in January 1923, on Orthodox Christmas Day, the government youth
organization, the Komsomol, indorsed its members to deface Orthodox Churches and to harass
worshippers. The Komsomol dressed as clowns paraded around Moscow holding anti religious
banners. These were followed by trucks bearing clowns who mocked God, a figure of God
embracing a nude woman, and rabbis and priests in ridiculous poses chanting parodies of church
liturgy set to indecent lyrics. As night fell, effigies of all the... Show more content on

political turmoil, the Bolsheviks rose to power in October 1917 and proclaimed a separation of
church and state. The government confiscated all church lands; therefore, the Russian Orthodox
Church was in serious distress. The church was further weakened, in the period from 1922 to 1926,
twenty eight bishops and one thousand two hundred priests were executed. During those years of
suffering, the church revealed an astounding power to survive. The Bolsheviks collapsed, but the

Southern Colonies Similarities
Comparison Essay U.S History G Block Valentina Stephens 29/9/17 North vs. South Colonies The
Northern and Southern colonies share many similarities when it comes to government leadership,
immigration, the treatment of women and the use of slavery. However there are also several
differences that influence the social structure of the respective territories. The Southern colonies
were considered Virginia, Maryland, Georgia North and South Carolina. Which had a very warm
climate which was excellent for farming. While the Northern states were Connecticut,
Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey. The political
and social movements of the South were controlled and lead majoritively by the farmers that grew
the cash crops and had the most money. While the North had a more structured government system,
much more influenced by England that followed set laws and agreements in comparison to the
South. Ben Franklin heavily influenced the people of the North by preaching about the
Enlightenment. Which was a movement that originated in Europe which spoke of obtaining truths
through experimentation and scientific reasoning. Since the Puritans were big supporters of public
education, making sure everyone would be able to read the bible, these new ideas were spread
through books and pamphlets. In comparison to the South which did not catch on to these
Enlightenment ideas as fast as the North did because they did not care much for education.

Ethical Cases Of The Ford Pinto
In 1978 a tragic automobile accident occurred on U.S. Highway 33 in Elkhart county, Indiana
involving a 1973 Ford Pinto that killed three teenagers. The Pinto they were driving was hit from
behind by a van which ruptured the vehicle s gas tank engulfing the car in flames. This provoked
the Elkhart County prosecutor to push for a criminal homicide charge against Ford Motor Company
. This trial was big and would affect many American businesses in concerns of corporate
responsibility and product liability.
Even though this was the first criminal case against Ford Motor Company it doesn t mean these
were the first people to lose their lives. There had been hundreds of people who either burned to
death or were left scared and disfigured in similar accidents involving the Pinto. Ford Motor
Company knowingly sold an unsafe car to their customers and paid out millions to settle law suits
for damages out of court. They also spent many more millions lobbying against Federal Motor
Vehicle Safety Standard 301. They fought against this standard until they felt it was profitable to
make the change to the Pinto design which was determined by their cost benefit analysis. This to
me was not a wise ethical decision as it would eventually ruin the company s reputation as well as
the lives of people involved.
During this 20 week trial Judge Staffeldt advised the jury that Ford Motor Company should only be
found guilty if it could be proven the company had committed plain, conscious

A Conversation With My Father By Grace Paley
A conversation With my Father is a story written by Grace Paley. this short story is about a
discussion between the narrator and her sick, eighty six year old father. Throughout this whole
entire story, there is evidence given to the reader that this short story is about story telling. The
reader can tell that this is a story about storytelling because in the conversation between the narrator
and her father, they are constantly talking about how a story should be written.

her sick father, talk about her style of writing. In the beginning, the father asks the narrator to write
a simple story and says to use just recognizable people and ... Show more content on

This request that the father makes shows the reader the first evidence of storytelling in this short
story. The narrator does not like the simple style of writing that he suggested because she thinks
that it takes all hope away. She also believes that Everyone, real or invented, deserves the open
destiny of life ( Paley 231). Even though the narrator does not like writing in that style, she still
agrees to do it to please her father. She starts to think of a way that she can start her story and a
plot that would follow it. Moments later, the narrator thinks of a story that has been happening for
a couple of years right across the street from her. This story includes a woman and her son, a drug
addict. In this story, she describes how the woman became a junkie in order to maintain a close
relationship with her son. The narrator ended the short story by saying that the son eventually gave
everything up and left the city making the mother feel hopeless and alone. This is not what her
father was expecting, he says You misunderstood me on purpose... You left everything out (Paley
233). The father then asks the narrator a bunch of questions in order to include more important
details about the characters in her story. The

A Definition Of System Services Essay
System services
This chapter contains a definition of system services (SyS) which are both managed and
coordinated by ДЊEPS.
ДЊEPS is, according to the Energy Act, responsible for ensuring system services for the power
system at the transmission system level. The system services provided by ДЊEPS serve to ensure
both the secure and reliable operation of the power system and the quality of electricity
transmission and satisfy the various international obligations set out by the UCTE. ДЊEPS
provides the following system services:
1) Maintaining the quality of electricity
This service entails the use of the following technical organisational tools: o Management of the
summary power reserve for primary frequency control o Secondary f/P control o Secondary
voltage control o Tertiary voltage control o Ensuring the quality of the voltage sine wave o
Ensuring transmission stability
The criteria for the quality of electricity follow current technical standards пЂёV.3.
2) Real time active power balancing
This service requires the use of the following technical organisational tools: o Load frequency
control o Tertiary active power control o Dispatcher reserve
The criteria for evaluating the quality of active power balancing (the control of power interchange
at the planned level) are contained in recommendations provided by the UCTE (Ground rules
concerning primary and secondary control of frequency and active power within the UCPTE) and

Essay On Abusive Relationships
An abusive relationship, what is it? An abusive relationship is a relationship in which you are
being physically, mentally, or emotionally abused by your significant other. Most people in
abusive relationships don t seek help or tell anyone, why? There can many reasons as to why a
person won t seek help, tell anyone, or simply leave. To the person being abused it s extremely
hard, seeing from their point of view is nearly impossible to do. Being with someone who hurts
or harms you like that seems stupid and the easiest solution should be to leave. To the victim
leaving isn t easy, in fact it seems like the hardest thing to do. The victim may not leave or seek
help because of fear. Fear that the abuser can kill them, make their life seem like a living hell, or
the fear to be single and alone There s more than just fear sometimes people in these relationships
truly love the abuser. The victim can believe that the abuser will change, and they only hurt them
out of love. It seems silly and stupid to most people, but when you really look at it isn t silly or
stupid, it s a serious and horrible matter.

Bearded Dragon
For my report I will write about Pogona, otherwise referred to as the bearded dragon. These
harmless reptiles are mostly found in Australia in ridged rocky regions. They enjoy climbing
and can be found up on high rocks or on branches of trees. They are also typically found in dessert
regions of Australia chilling on tree stumps and rocks. For pet dragon you will want a habitat that
has a heat source on one side to keep it warm if needed and a small place to hide and climb on.
They will also obviously need a shallow dish for food and water purposes. This reptileis quite the
catch. Let me tell you about his appearance. Although he might look sharp and dangerous he is
really nothing but a softy. All the spikes on his body are rubbery and not sharp at all. They have
flat bodies with a row of spikes going down each side of the stomach. They are supported with 4
stubby legs that have 4 toes on each one. However, as I have come to find out through much
research, unlike most lizards, bearded dragons will not make their tail fall off if threatened and...

Over time these dragons can grow to be 13 24 inches long from head to tip of tail. As I read in the
article, Bearded Dragon Information Facts you can tell the age of your dragon by the length of
their body! Here is a chart of how to tell how old the dragon is.
Bearded dragons are omnivores meaning they need a balanced diet of meat and vegetables. Meat
should make up about 80% of their diet. These could be things like crickets and meal worms. And
the other 20% should be fruit and veggies such as kale, sweet potato, and peaches.
For reproduction it is best to place one male in with 2 3 females. This will lower the rate of fighting
compared to a one on one. Then the female will typically make a burrow 6 8 in. deep and lay her
eggs there. The eggs will hatch about 60 70 days

Essay On Odysseus Being A Hero
A hero is defined as a person who is risking their life to save others. There are many differents
types of heroes, such as Superman or Captain America. But the true heroes are the ones that were
formed during the ancient times because those people set an example for the heroes today. On the
topic of heroes Heroes, Odysseusfrom the book The Odyssey, by Homer has displayed many
reasons as to why he should be a hero and why he should not. For instance, Odysseus appears as a
very determined character that never lost hope in getting back home. On the other hand,
Odysseus is very self centered and does not listen to other people s advice, therefore this caused a
lot of deaths. Odysseus is also to be known as not loyal to his spouse Penelope because as... Show

Circe and Calypso were the women that Odysseus slept with on the islands, therefore he cheated
on his wife. On the other hand, while Odysseus was gone Penelope however did not cheat on
Odysseus, therefore she is considered to be loyal. So although Odysseus is incredibly intelligent, he
is NOT a hero.
Throughout The Odyssey, Odysseus has been leading an entire crew through multiple islands.
Now Odysseus may be the smartest man in the world, but listening to his crew members was
something that he regretted, therefore Odysseus is displayed as self centered. Odysseus has
showed many examples of not listening to advice from people, such as the advice Eurylochus
gave him to not send his men back to Circe s island to see what is on it. But of course Odysseus
does not pick up her advice and Circe turns his men into pigs, therefore Odysseus is just throwing
their lives away like dispensing bait to fish. But if Odysseus had listened to Eurylochus advice then
he would have continued his journey back home and he would still have mast of his crew
members. Odysseus also neglects the advice to not fight

Love And Cruelty In James Hurst s The Scarlet Ibis
Love and cruelty are two feelings that are so different, yet they are very similar. Cruelty can be
changed and conquered by love, turning into a proud, and wonderful thing. Yet, love can still fall
apart against the harshness of cruelty. James Hurst represents this idea through his characters,
Doodle and Brother, in his work, The Scarlet Ibis. Doodle is born with a caul around his head and
grows up crippled and physically limited. Brother is ashamed of Doodle s limitations and teaches
Doodle how to walk, run, climb, fight and swim. Hurst uses the symbols of the stormand the scarlet
ibis to demonstrate the cruelty and the lovein Doodle and Brother s relationship, ultimately showing
how even the strongest of relationships can end.
The storm is used to symbolize Brother s cruelty towards Doodle. Doodle is born with a
membrane surrounding his head, a caul. Because of this, Brother is embarrassed and ashamed
of Doodle not being normal . Brother so much thought of killing Doodle to remove his problem
although he never actually did. Yet one day while Brother is watching Doodle in his crib, he
sees Doodle smile and realizes that he does have a brother in there. This inspires Brother to try and
teach Doodle how to do basic things any kid his age should be able to do. After having spent a lot
of time with Doodle, Brother has an epiphany and realizes he did not do this because of love, he
did it because he is embarrassed and ashamed of having a crippled brother. Yet one day while

The Advancement And Development Delivery Of Media Content
The advancement and development in delivery of media content has also affected the audience s
behavior in certain manner. In distant past, families use to gather around the only television
screen in home and enjoy the prime time programs aired by these limited broadcasters. Millions
of households already have cancelled pay TV subscriptions up to 10 million U.S. households are
currently broadband only. And about 45 percent of Americans stream television shows at least
once a month, according to research firm eMarketer. That number is expected to increase to 53
percent or 175 million people by 2018. Anderson, Mae, and Michael Liedtke. HBO Unleashes

Occasionally, people use to go out and rent DVD s to watch a specific movie from rental stores.
Advancement in technology has brought a sufficient change in customer s behaviors, today DVD
rental stores have almost gone. Moreover, by time we saw enormous increase in channels being
provided by cable providers, but today even that has been replaced by streaming media devices, thus
my time, role of cable providers might also disappear due to the introduction of devices such as
Netflix, Apple TV etc. DVD sales have also been hit. The Los Angeles based Digital

Life of a Waitress

Hello, my name is Stephanie and I will be taking care of you tonight. This is my routine that
sounds rather scripted. Waitressing is just one of the many roles in my life. Wait staff almost
have a script for how to handle customers. Being a waitress is a positive role in my life. It is
something I can enjoy while doing and work with people who appreciate working with me. This is
one of my favorite roles that I have had in my life. Waitressing has made me a more open person. I

They expect me to be patient, clear with orders, not demanding, and aware of what is going on. I
must know what food they just told me was done and where to take it, but first I need to pay
attention to hear when my name is called. There is usually more tension between the kitchen and
waiters than there is with any other workers. The roles are so different. The kitchen staff usually
looks at servers as just wanting to get a good tip, and that we do not care the extremities the
kitchen has to go to for us. It is important that servers respect the kitchen staff; they are in charge
of the food we will be serving. Servers, as mediators, need their food when their customers
demand it: sometimes this is before the food is ready; at other times after. If servers demand
food too early, cooks are stressed; but if they don t pick up the food on time, the food is poor and
the cook seems incompetent. (Fine 105). This is the most true on Friday and Saturday nights.
Everything seems to be more chaotic on these nights, since most people decide to go out. This is
good because it brings in more business for the restaurant, but then there are always more unhappy
customers on these nights as well. Overall, positive interaction with the kitchen staff can make
amazing things happen. My performance as a waitress is judged by customer reviews. I try to have

People With INTJ Personalities

looking for new ideas and information to learn. They are also very creative and imaginative in the

to the things they know they have high self confidence in it. They trust their rationalism more than
anyone else and whenever they talk about something they know they are always right even if they
are correcting themselves. This makes them independent and decisive, they stand by what they say
even if something else is popular compared to their idea, making authority figures banal to them.

On Tuesday November 21st, I had my last rotation at Hartford Hospital. During the month I
spent going there I had the opportunity of treating patients with different systemic diseases, and
getting familiar with the different medications, assessing them for any possible emergency, and

Research Paper On Dog Park
Will a dog park be a postive addition to Muscatine, or will it be a negative addition? This is the
question currently being asked. Both sides of the party make a very good argument. From it
being a postive way for dogs to let out their energy and socialize, to it being a negative disruption
for tax payers and surrounding residents of the dogpark. My personal opinion is the dog parkshould
be contructed, and here are some supporting reasons why.
As stated in the first passage, dogs need to be socialized with other dogs to be a good dog at home
and outside of its home. If a dog is not properly socialized it can easily lead to a aggressive or
reserved dog. At home i have a dog of my own which whom I adopted from a shelter. When I first
attained him he was very shy and skittish, especially around other dogs. However after taking
him to our local dog park and into different stores that allow your dog to accompany you, his
behavior started to change. He slowly started to become less shy and now wants to play with every
dog he sees. If dogs have a place to socialize, this will then lead to less of them in the shelter which
will also lead to less money taken from taxes we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Poisoner s Handbook By Deborah Blums Best Selling Book
The film that I am reviewing, title The Poisoner s Handbook, is based on Deborah Blums best
selling book, of the same title, which reflects on the most notorious cases between the years of
1918 and 1959 that were handled by Charles Norris, the chief medical examiner for New York City,
also known and described by his peers as the father of forensic toxicologyin America, and
Alexander Oscar Gettler, toxicologist with the Office of Chief Medical Examiner of the City of
New York, such as the fatal radium poisoning of the factory workers who contracted radiation
poisoning from painting watch dials with self luminous paint at the Orange, New Jersey watch
factory around the year 1917 and other cases that involve dangerous poisons, like arsenic, methanol,
lead, carbon monoxide, denatured alcohol, radium and thallium. Their renowned work led to
tougher regulations by the government and the creation of the Food and Drug Administration. The
film depicts how the average American s medicine cabinet, in the early 1900s, was a treasure chest
of dangerous poisons that could make you ill, put you in a coma, and even kill you. These poisons
were readily found in health tonics, depilatory creams, teething medicine, and cleaning supplies.

Foner fails to provide any actual numbers regarding how many slaves were set free, or any
indication how long this natural disintegration process would have taken. These few very small
steps seem redundant in this grand marathon. Perhaps as the war waged on Lincoln and the
Union leaders saw emancipation as a stepping stone in order to win the war. By the time
Congress passed the Second Confiscation and Militia Act in 1862 which freed slaves whose
masters where in the Confederate Army. The Union had already suffered great loses of man
power and needed an outlet source of new talent. By tapping into a new fresh source of labor
and firepower the Union army allowed African American men to join the ranks. Gallagher
comments that using emancipation was necessary by quoting Lincoln Abandon all the posts now
possessed by black men, we would be compelled to abandon the war in 3 weeks. Eric Foner
seemingly agreed by quoting an Alabama planter in 1867, The Yankees never could have whipped
the South without the aid of the negroes. We are told today freedom isn t free maybe it was part

Education is becoming one of the most essential things in a person s life. Nowadays, many
individuals are looking to go the extra mile and further their education. This is because numerous
employers require a degree and a significant amount of experience in order to become eligible for
certain occupations. The next question to consider is how to go about this. Younger adults with
minimal responsibilities unquestionably have a broader range of options. As for working adults
who have kids and obligations that hold them back, attending classes multiple times a week may
seem tough and out of the question.
Thankfully, the progression of technology has had a major impact on education. The
implementation of education was only in a traditional setting before this advancement of
technology. Currently, this has altered. With the outburst of the technology industry in the past 15
years, online education has helped people from all walks of life continue and further their
education. This ultimately leaves us with a concern on the quality of the education provided. There
are several things to consider when choosing which route one should pursue. Before committing to
any specific degree program, one should weigh and evaluate their options based on what is
important and vital to them. Despite sharing many apparent similarities, the difference between both

Newton s First Law
1) Newton s First Law is: Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state
of motion unless an external force is applied to it. A real world example of this is that a soccer
ball does not move until it is kicked. Newton s Second Law is that the relationship between an
object s massm, its acceleration a, and the applied forceF is F = ma. Acceleration and force are
vectors; in this law the direction of the force vector is the same as the direction of the
acceleration vector. This applies to the design of a bullet. A bullet has low mass with high
acceleration behind it, leading to high force on impact. Newton s Third Law is that for every
action there is an equal and opposite reaction. This law can be understood as when an individual
presses against a wall that they do not fall through the wall as the wall pushes back against your
action.
2) A 10 kg bowling ball is slowing down at a constant rate. In two seconds, its velocity drops from 5
m/s to 4.8 m/s. What is the total force acting on the ball, in N?
Variables: m = mass = 10 kg Vo = initial velocity = 5 m/s V = final velocity = 4.8 m/s t = time of
observation = 2 s a = acceleration = ? m/s2 F = force acting = ? N
Relationships:
a = (V Vo)/t F = ma
Computations:
3) The weight G of an object is BY DEFINITION
G = m*g where g is the acceleration of gravity
Hence g = G/m = 0.3/275 =0.001091 m/s/s

Compare And Contrast Hume s Riddle Of Induction
PHI 111, spring 2017
Paper #2 Induction
Inductive inferences are judgments about the future that the sun will rise tomorrow, that the hot
stove will burn me, that the (properly functioning) airplane will stay aloft, that the piece of metal
will expand if heated. Hume observes that such judgments are neither matters of fact nor
relations of ideas and so concludes that they are not proper objects of knowledge we cannot
claim to know that the sun will rise tomorrow, that the stove will burn me, etc. We can t even
claim to know these things are probable; inductive judgments appear not to be justified at all! But
we make them all the time in everyday life, and scientific practice seems to be based on them.
How are we to make sense of our inductive practices? Hume suggests that the answer lies in our
psychology, that regularities in experience give rise to habits of expectation. Popper and Goodman
both argue that Hume s solution is problematic, that we cannot explain our inductive practices
simply by appealing to habits of thought. Popper goes on to conclude that what we take to be
inductive practice is really just a method of conjectures and refutations and Goodman goes on to
posit his new riddle of induction; what they have in common, though, is a concern about Hume s
psychological solution to the riddle of induction. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Letter Letter From The Holy Spirit
Letter to Utinger This letter is Zwingli s efforts of defending himself and dispelling false rumors
about him having inappropriate relations with a daughter of a high official. After saying how
he has taken a vow of celibacy and that studying theology and Scripture weakens any sensual
desires, he does concede that he had relations with her in a time of temptation. So, he denies the
rumors that he seduced her (and possibly raped her) and says that not only was the decision
mutual, but also that the entire town of Einsiedeln knew about it and did not care. Of the
Freedom of Choice in the Selection of Food After some of his friends broke the Lent fast by
eating some sausages, Zwingli used the opportunity to preach on this matter in 1522. He says
that the decision to fast or not to fast does not matter, so long as Christians are given a choice to
decide for themselves in the first place. His argument comes from the desire to listen and receive
guidance from the Holy Spirit. Besides, he says, the fasting of Lent and other seasons is yet
another form of works, and therefore does not matter in regards to salvation as only the grace of
God can save a person. Petition to the Bishop of Constance In light of his own relationship with
Anna Reinhard and the fact that other members of the clergy are taking wives for themselves,
Zwingli writes to the bishop to beg him not to oppose or interfere in the matter of married clergy.
Vows of celibacy are for the very few, Zwingli

America s Age Of Hope
1980 1989: America s Age of Hope
From where did the vigor of the 1980 s come? 1980 to 1989 was a period in the United States
which spurred hope for the economy and in the spirits of the people. The 1980 s were a decade of
the American people standing together in tragedy and rejoicing with each other in victory. In 1989,
the fall of the Berlin Wall marked the end of the decade and an age of an oppression overseas.
America cheered for the freedom of her brothers and sisters in Germany. One highlight of the
1980 s was the substantial growth of the economy through Reaganomics, President Reagan s
principles of economics. In television, the show Family Ties depicted an average family at the
time, who supported each other despite their wide range of beliefs and ideals. Why was this time
in America so great? The people of the nation believed in her, and America gave her people reason
to believe.
The spirit of the 1980 s was born of previous decades. America s victory in World War II hurled
the nation into a society which became faster with each decade. The 1950 s, thriving on a time of
high job opportunity, rolled into the 1960 s time of activism of human rights for all peoples.
Women s rights, African American rights, and antiwar dominated the minds of many Americans in
the 1960 s and 1970 s. Meanwhile, to the pleasure of the children, cable television s quality
improved and shows transitioned from grayscale to color. As the 1980 s hit with the Cold War

biological agents that can be used as weapons of war as well as protect humans from said agents
(Mandal 2014). Over time, biosecurity has increased in the eye of the public as good procedures

Judges enforce the law with a courtroom in order for justice to take place. For example, in the
Sterling case Superior Court Judge Michael Levanas heard both sides of the oral arguments
presented. His ruling on the case wasn t based on personal feelings. It was based on facts,

Another obvious individual that can be found within the court is an attorney. They also play an
important role, there are attorneys for both parties meaning the plaintiff and the defendant.
Attorneys can be either hired by each party or an attorney can be appointed to them by the court.
Their role in the courtroom, is to bring out the facts that put his or her client s case in the most
favorable light, but do so using approved legal procedures... On relatively rare occasions
defendants in criminal cases or parties in civil cases attempt to present their case themselves,
without using a lawyer. Parties who act on their own behalf are said to act pro se (Courtroom

The Sniper By Liam O Flaherty Analysis
Liam O Flaherty is an Irish author who focuses his writings during the time of the Irish Civil War.
Along with The Sniper, O Flaherty s novel The Informer is also based in Dublin in the 1920 s
during the Irish Civil War. In this story, the theme is that war dehumanizes individuals that partake
in the action. The style is straightforward and easy to understand and the point of view is third
person. Although there are characters mentioned, none have significant detail other than who or
what they are; today though, society tries to recognize the men and women who served or are
serving our country for who they are, brave.
The overall theme is that war dehumanizes individual who partake in the actions of war, making
them seem as mere objects. O Flaherty does not give his characters any meaning. They have no
names, no faces, and are represented as targets to be shot at. For example, in the paragraphs 8 and
9, the author says round the corner of a side street came an old woman...she began to talk to the
man in the turret of the car. She was pointing to the roof where the snipe lay. An informer. The
turret opened. A man s head and shoulders appeared, looking toward the sniper. The sniper raised

was frightened back to his senses by the shock. His nerves steadied. The cloud of fear scattered
from his mind and he laughed. Taking the whiskey flask from his pocket, he emptied it in a
drought. He felt reckless under the influence of the spirit (O Flaherty). As if the sniper was crazy,
he went from being shocked, to laughing, to taking a swig of his whiskey and feeling reckless.

How Did Babylonians Use Bladed Weapons

ancient babylonians used sharpened weapons such as sickle swords, socketed axes, spears, and

The type and invasiveness of the surgery depends on the problem. In most cases, shoulder surgery
will be conducted in one of the two major methods.
Arthroscopic surgery is less invasive with small incisions made to fix joint damage. The recovery
time is less with this option, getting a patient back to a normal daily routine in a faster manner.
Open surgery is often implemented in more severe cases where the orthopedic surgeon needs a
better view of the damaged area. Open surgery has a longer healing and recovery process.
Under some circumstances, physical therapy may also be prescribed after surgery. Physical therapy
will help regain strength and flexibility in the shoulder area.
In Fountain Valley, Dr. Howard Marans can guide a potential new patient through all the various
shoulder pain management options to achieve an optimal outcome. Dr. Marans believes in
individualized care as priority to get a patient back to a normal daily lifestyle in a timely manner.

A Theoretical Perspective On Organisational Socialisation
Introduction Individuals spend their lives trying to fit in. Fit into their family roles, fit into their
circle of friends and fit into their workplaces. Being a part of a group, a team or an organisations
provides a sense of comfort and belonging. Furthermore, it instills confidence to carry out
respective roles efficiently. The process by which individuals incorporate themselves into society
and into organisations is defined as socialisation (Jablin 2001). Socialisation theories usually focus
on paid workers and their experiences within an organisation (Miller 2012). What they fail to
consider is that volunteers within an organisation are also equally important and in need of the
same guidance and knowledge that paid workers are provided with. Kramer (2010) brings
volunteers to the forefront stating that volunteers are an equal asset to an organisation, especially in
the Non profit sector. The purpose of this research is to explore the process of socialisation among
volunteers in a Non profit organisation. The paper will provide a theoretical perspective on
Organisational Socialisation in terms of its definition and its process. It will then examine how a
particular volunteer socialisation process is applicable in the case of a unique project conducted by
a Non profit organisation. Background The International Society is a Non profit organisation in
Manchester that supports international students in enhancing their experience while studying in the
United Kingdom. It

Huella Hong Kong can go even further and offer a combination of both offers above.
The problem with this solution is that existing travel agencies are already making huge profits
and controlling most of the market. They won t be easily persuaded to help a potentially big
competitor enter their market. The reason for that is that it s obvious that Huella Hong Kong
would go solo as soon as they get enough recognition in the market. If this happens, it s going to
be hard for the traditional travel agencies to compete against them. The second alternative is for
Huella Hong Kong to open its own offices in Hong Kong following a Click and mortar model.
That will make them appear as any traditional travel agency. Through that, they will be able to
attract customers more easily. After acquiring a customer base, they can start educating people
more and more about online booking and then inform them about Huella Hong Kong s website and
how that it is in fact more convenient for customers to use the website than to come to the physical
office. Then, they can phase out the traditional physical offices gradually until they go back to the
original model completely.
The problem with that is that this solution will require new business models in order to facilitate
the opening of the physical spots. Also, at a certain point of time they will have to get rid of all the
tangible assets they acquired when they

Early Influences On Emily Dickinson s Life
December 10, 1830, Emily Elizabeth Dickinson was born in Amherst, Massachusetts to an Emily
and Edward Dickinson. Just like any parent thinks, I am certain that they thought that their kid
would be great and do great things. Little did they know that their daughter would become the
greatest female poet to this day. In her early life, she attended Amherst Academy that her grandpa,
Samuel Dickinson, founded. According to biogrpaghy.com, She was an excellent student. Emily
Dickinsonsuffered with depression for personal reason that are unknown, and that is said to be the
reason that she dropped out of school. The uniqueness of Dickinson and how she writes poems
one would think would take a good bit of writing poems and failing, but that s not the case, which
also just shows that greatness was just natural to her. She starting writing as teenager. There are a
few people that she looked up to and influenced her to write. Her early influences include Leonard

Most people try to understand where she was trying to go with her writings, but here is my
favorite part about it, Emily Elizabeth Dickinson did not write to nobody. She was not writing
thinking that she was going to publish these. She was not writing thinking that she had to
impress someone. That is the big kicker! That is why she is my favorite and that is why she is
the greatest female poet. She wrote through emotions. Combine both of the ways Emily
Dickinson writes which is through her life and through her thoughts and it brings a couple of
words to mind, real and truth. That s what makes her the best because it is either what she is
going through or how she feels. I mean I am not the only that thinks this. Few poets are as
mythologized as Emily Dickinson, (Holmström 1). What she mythologized was her thoughts and
life and did a good job doing so. Better than any other as other people say

I picked the rose s stem because I interpret it as a strong and dependable way to connect my
symbols together. The stem has its own defensive mechanism like its thorns. The deeper
meaning of the stem for me is that it reminds me of how I want to live my life and how it
connects to everything to each other, and if someone tries to touch and change it, I would defend
my beliefs and dreams to fulfill how I want to live life. This is the reason why I chose this stem.
The flower that I chose for my tattoo is the sunflower. This is because, for me, the sunflower is a
symbol of purity, happiness, joyfulness, compassionate, and optimistic. These personalities are
a symbol to remind me this is how I want to live my life, like living life happily and full of
optimism. Therefore, I chose the sunflower as my flower in my tattoo. I would put this tattoo on
my forearm because it is easy to look at and remind me of what these symbols bring and mean. It
is also an easy way to show people because there should be no shame in it. These are the outline
of my symbolic tattoo. These symbols hold dear to me because it is how I want to live and

Science In The 1600s
Thought history scientists finding have been ignored, only to be discovered that their information
was beneficial. In the 1600s and 1700s, many astronomers and mechanics were focused on
finding a way to find the longitude of a ship s position at sea. John Harrison, a self taught
carpenter and clockmaker was able to create a solution, but no one with enough power to enforce
his studies would listen to his ideas. Similar to this, when Nicolaus Copernicus discovered that the
earth revolved around the sun, no one believed him because the belief at the time was that the earth
was the center of the universe. Despite no one appreciating what the two had discovered, several
years after they had died, their theories surfaced again and people began... Show more content on

and Copernicus worked in astronomy. Geography is the study of land and the relationships

Astronomy is the study of astronomic objects, space and the physical universe. Besides this
difference, Harrison had an immediate successor to continue pressing the ideas of using clocks to
solve the longitude issue. Copernicus, on the other hand, had no one to help him continue his
work once he had died; no one wanted to be associated with his work because the Church had

Hamlet Madness Analysis
One of the most controversial arguments about William Shakespeare s Hamlet is whether Hamlet,
indeed, went insane or if his madness was no more than an act. Proof for the latter is given in
several instances throughout the play; Hamlet undeniably kept his sanity intact. Loved ones of
Hamlet insinuate that he is not mad. Hamlethimself justifies that his mental state is sound.
Shakespeare also shows what he believes is the true definition of madness in the character Ophelia,
not Hamlet. Even though Hamlet s disposition seems as that of a madman, statements of others
around him, declarations from Hamlet himself, and contrasts between Ophelia and Hamlet prove
otherwise.
Amid his feigning of madness, several individuals suspect that Hamlet truly is sane; encounters
with Claudius, Gertrude, and Polonius show that Hamlet s rather false insanity is possibly
discovered. Claudius, of course, pays very close attention to every move Hamlet makes. After all,
Claudius did kill his father and marry his mother shortly thereafter. When Hamlet begins his mad
behavior the king states, ...what he spake, though it lack d form a little, / Was not like madness.
There s something in his soul... (56). King Claudius believes that even though Hamlet is acting
differently, he is not mad. He specifically states that what Hamlet says is not like madness at all,
yet he feels as though there is something else within Hamlet s soul that is bothering him. Upon
Claudius and Polonius informing Gertrude of what they believe is the source of Hamlet s
behavior, Gertrude reminds them ...that it is no other but the main: his father s death and our
[Gertrude and Claudius] o erhasty marriage (35). Thus, both Hamlet s uncle father and aunt
mother declare their son sane and decide that something else is making him act oddly apart from
madness (44). Even though Polonius says that Hamlet is mad, he comments ...yet there is method
in t to suggest that even though Hamlet may be crazy, perhaps there is a reason behind it (39).
Polonius also suggests that Hamlet has a way with words and reflects on how pregnant sometimes
his replies are... (39). He suggests heavily that perhaps Hamlet is only putting on madness to carry
out a plan or a

Religion And Spirituality On The United States Of America...
Religion and spirituality have been complex issues in the United States of America. This is
especially true when it comes to Native Americans. Since the 16th century, contact between
Native Americans and Europeans has been filled with both good and bad. In this paper, the issue
of religion and spirituality and how they figure into the story of Indian European contact between
the 16th and 21st centuries will be discussed. The people of the Eastern Woodlands held beliefs
about the human, natural, and supernatural worlds. The people believed that there was no line
between the human and natural worlds. In some languages, animals were referred to as people.
Humans were referred to as extra people, or people people. They also believed there was no line
between the natural and supernatural worlds. They also had in their beliefs the idea of manitou.
Manitou roughly translates to spirit in English. They believed there was manitou in everything in
the human, natural, and supernatural worlds. They believed there was power in the natural world
itself. In a reading done in class, Farmers of the Woodlands, written by Peter Nabokov and Dean
Snow, there is discussion of the religious and spiritual beliefs of the people who lived in the
Eastern Woodlands. For the Penobscot bands, they had the spiritual belief of totems. These totems
were animals. They believed the totems were the ancestors to the people of the band. These totems

  • 4. Bolshevik Propaganda Research Paper With the civil war ending in October 1922, the Bolsheviks launched a more inappropriate propaganda directed at common religions. In 1922, the Central Committee created the Anti Religious Commission, chaired by Emelian Iaroslavskii. Iaroslavskii was a well known Bolshevik and one of the earliest leaders of militant atheism; in 1917, he partook in the Bolshevik takeover of Moscow and became the first commissar of the Moscow region. Throughout the 1920s, Iaroslavskii was secretary of the Central Control Commission of the Communist party and was on the editorial board of the anti religious paper Bezbozhik. The Central Committee was eventually abolished in 1929, and Iaroslavskii supervised the newly created League of the Godless. By 1930 the League alleged to have more than two million members. Previously in January 1923, on Orthodox Christmas Day, the government youth organization, the Komsomol, indorsed its members to deface Orthodox Churches and to harass worshippers. The Komsomol dressed as clowns paraded around Moscow holding anti religious banners. These were followed by trucks bearing clowns who mocked God, a figure of God embracing a nude woman, and rabbis and priests in ridiculous poses chanting parodies of church liturgy set to indecent lyrics. Southern Colonies Similarities Comparison Essay U.S History G Block Valentina Stephens 29/9/17 North vs. South Colonies The Northern and Southern colonies share many similarities when it comes to government leadership, immigration, the treatment of women and the use of slavery. However there are also several differences that influence the social structure of the respective territories. The Southern colonies were considered Virginia, Maryland, Georgia North and South Carolina. Which had a very warm climate which was excellent for farming. While the Northern states were Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey. The political and social movements of the South were controlled and lead majoritively by the farmers that grew the cash crops and had the most money. While the North had a more structured government system, much more influenced by England that followed set laws and agreements in comparison to the South. Ben Franklin heavily influenced the people of the North by preaching about the Enlightenment. Which was a movement that originated in Europe which spoke of obtaining truths through experimentation and scientific reasoning. Since the Puritans were big supporters of public education, making sure everyone would be able to read the bible, these new ideas were spread through books and pamphlets. • 6. Ethical Cases Of The Ford Pinto In 1978 a tragic automobile accident occurred on U.S. Highway 33 in Elkhart county, Indiana involving a 1973 Ford Pinto that killed three teenagers. The Pinto they were driving was hit from behind by a van which ruptured the vehicle s gas tank engulfing the car in flames. This provoked the Elkhart County prosecutor to push for a criminal homicide charge against Ford Motor Company . This trial was big and would affect many American businesses in concerns of corporate responsibility and product liability. Even though this was the first criminal case against Ford Motor Company it doesn t mean these were the first people to lose their lives. There had been hundreds of people who either burned to death or were left scared and disfigured in similar accidents involving the Pinto. Ford Motor Company knowingly sold an unsafe car to their customers and paid out millions to settle law suits for damages out of court. They also spent many more millions lobbying against Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 301. They fought against this standard until they felt it was profitable to make the change to the Pinto design which was determined by their cost benefit analysis. This to me was not a wise ethical decision as it would eventually ruin the company s reputation as well as the lives of people involved. During this 20 week trial Judge Staffeldt advised the jury that Ford Motor Company should only be found guilty if it could be proven the company had committed plain, conscious ... This request that the father makes shows the reader the first evidence of storytelling in this short story. The narrator does not like the simple style of writing that he suggested because she thinks that it takes all hope away. She also believes that Everyone, real or invented, deserves the open destiny of life ( Paley 231). Even though the narrator does not like writing in that style, she still agrees to do it to please her father. She starts to think of a way that she can start her story and a plot that would follow it. Moments later, the narrator thinks of a story that has been happening for a couple of years right across the street from her. This story includes a woman and her son, a drug addict. In this story, she describes how the woman became a junkie in order to maintain a close relationship with her son. The narrator ended the short story by saying that the son eventually gave everything up and left the city making the mother feel hopeless and alone. This is not what her father was expecting, he says You misunderstood me on purpose... You left everything out (Paley 233). An abusive relationship is a relationship in which you are being physically, mentally, or emotionally abused by your significant other. Most people in abusive relationships don t seek help or tell anyone, why? There can many reasons as to why a person won t seek help, tell anyone, or simply leave. To the person being abused it s extremely hard, seeing from their point of view is nearly impossible to do. Being with someone who hurts or harms you like that seems stupid and the easiest solution should be to leave. To the victim leaving isn t easy, in fact it seems like the hardest thing to do. The victim may not leave or seek help because of fear. Fear that the abuser can kill them, make their life seem like a living hell, or the fear to be single and alone There s more than just fear sometimes people in these relationships truly love the abuser. • 10. Bearded Dragon For my report I will write about Pogona, otherwise referred to as the bearded dragon. These harmless reptiles are mostly found in Australia in ridged rocky regions. They enjoy climbing and can be found up on high rocks or on branches of trees. They are also typically found in dessert regions of Australia chilling on tree stumps and rocks. For pet dragon you will want a habitat that has a heat source on one side to keep it warm if needed and a small place to hide and climb on. They will also obviously need a shallow dish for food and water purposes. This reptileis quite the catch. Let me tell you about his appearance. Although he might look sharp and dangerous he is really nothing but a softy. All the spikes on his body are rubbery and not sharp at all. They have flat bodies with a row of spikes going down each side of the stomach. They are supported with 4 stubby legs that have 4 toes on each one. However, as I have come to find out through much research, unlike most lizards, bearded dragons will not make their tail fall off if threatened and... As I read in the article, Bearded Dragon Information Facts you can tell the age of your dragon by the length of their body! Here is a chart of how to tell how old the dragon is. Bearded dragons are omnivores meaning they need a balanced diet of meat and vegetables. Meat should make up about 80% of their diet. These could be things like crickets and meal worms. And the other 20% should be fruit and veggies such as kale, sweet potato, and peaches. For reproduction it is best to place one male in with 2 3 females. This will lower the rate of fighting compared to a one on one. Then the female will typically make a burrow 6 8 in. deep and lay her eggs there. The eggs will hatch about 60 70 days ... • 11. Essay On Odysseus Being A Hero A hero is defined as a person who is risking their life to save others. There are many differents types of heroes, such as Superman or Captain America. But the true heroes are the ones that were formed during the ancient times because those people set an example for the heroes today. On the topic of heroes Heroes, Odysseusfrom the book The Odyssey, by Homer has displayed many reasons as to why he should be a hero and why he should not. Now Odysseus may be the smartest man in the world, but listening to his crew members was something that he regretted, therefore Odysseus is displayed as self centered. Odysseus has showed many examples of not listening to advice from people, such as the advice Eurylochus gave him to not send his men back to Circe s island to see what is on it. But of course Odysseus does not pick up her advice and Circe turns his men into pigs, therefore Odysseus is just throwing their lives away like dispensing bait to fish. Cruelty can be changed and conquered by love, turning into a proud, and wonderful thing. Yet, love can still fall apart against the harshness of cruelty. James Hurst represents this idea through his characters, Doodle and Brother, in his work, The Scarlet Ibis. Doodle is born with a caul around his head and grows up crippled and physically limited. Brother is ashamed of Doodle s limitations and teaches Doodle how to walk, run, climb, fight and swim. Hurst uses the symbols of the stormand the scarlet ibis to demonstrate the cruelty and the lovein Doodle and Brother s relationship, ultimately showing how even the strongest of relationships can end. The storm is used to symbolize Brother s cruelty towards Doodle. Doodle is born with a membrane surrounding his head, a caul. Because of this, Brother is embarrassed and ashamed of Doodle not being normal . Brother so much thought of killing Doodle to remove his problem although he never actually did. Yet one day while Brother is watching Doodle in his crib, he sees Doodle smile and realizes that he does have a brother in there. This inspires Brother to try and teach Doodle how to do basic things any kid his age should be able to do. I must know what food they just told me was done and where to take it, but first I need to pay attention to hear when my name is called. There is usually more tension between the kitchen and waiters than there is with any other workers. The roles are so different. The kitchen staff usually looks at servers as just wanting to get a good tip, and that we do not care the extremities the kitchen has to go to for us. It is important that servers respect the kitchen staff; they are in charge of the food we will be serving. Servers, as mediators, need their food when their customers demand it: sometimes this is before the food is ready; at other times after. If servers demand food too early, cooks are stressed; but if they don t pick up the food on time, the food is poor and the cook seems incompetent. (Fine 105). This is the most true on Friday and Saturday nights. Everything seems to be more chaotic on these nights, since most people decide to go out. This is good because it brings in more business for the restaurant, but then there are always more unhappy customers on these nights as well. This is because numerous employers require a degree and a significant amount of experience in order to become eligible for certain occupations. The next question to consider is how to go about this. Younger adults with minimal responsibilities unquestionably have a broader range of options. As for working adults who have kids and obligations that hold them back, attending classes multiple times a week may seem tough and out of the question. Thankfully, the progression of technology has had a major impact on education. The implementation of education was only in a traditional setting before this advancement of technology. Currently, this has altered. With the outburst of the technology industry in the past 15 years, online education has helped people from all walks of life continue and further their education. This ultimately leaves us with a concern on the quality of the education provided. There are several things to consider when choosing which route one should pursue. • 23. Newton s First Law 1) Newton s First Law is: Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it. A real world example of this is that a soccer ball does not move until it is kicked. Newton s Second Law is that the relationship between an object s massm, its acceleration a, and the applied forceF is F = ma. Acceleration and force are vectors; in this law the direction of the force vector is the same as the direction of the acceleration vector. This applies to the design of a bullet. A bullet has low mass with high acceleration behind it, leading to high force on impact. Newton s Third Law is that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. This law can be understood as when an individual presses against a wall that they do not fall through the wall as the wall pushes back against your action. 2) A 10 kg bowling ball is slowing down at a constant rate. In two seconds, its velocity drops from 5 m/s to 4.8 m/s. What is the total force acting on the ball, in N? • 24. Compare And Contrast Hume s Riddle Of Induction PHI 111, spring 2017 Paper #2 Induction Inductive inferences are judgments about the future that the sun will rise tomorrow, that the hot stove will burn me, that the (properly functioning) airplane will stay aloft, that the piece of metal will expand if heated. Hume observes that such judgments are neither matters of fact nor relations of ideas and so concludes that they are not proper objects of knowledge we cannot claim to know that the sun will rise tomorrow, that the stove will burn me, etc. We can t even claim to know these things are probable; inductive judgments appear not to be justified at all! But we make them all the time in everyday life, and scientific practice seems to be based on them. How are we to make sense of our inductive practices? Hume suggests that the answer lies in our psychology, that regularities in experience give rise to habits of expectation. Popper and Goodman both argue that Hume s solution is problematic, that we cannot explain our inductive practices simply by appealing to habits of thought. Popper goes on to conclude that what we take to be inductive practice is really just a method of conjectures and refutations and Goodman goes on to posit his new riddle of induction; what they have in common, though, is a concern about Hume s psychological solution to the riddle of induction. ... Analysis Of The Letter Letter From The Holy Spirit Letter to Utinger This letter is Zwingli s efforts of defending himself and dispelling false rumors about him having inappropriate relations with a daughter of a high official. After saying how he has taken a vow of celibacy and that studying theology and Scripture weakens any sensual desires, he does concede that he had relations with her in a time of temptation. So, he denies the rumors that he seduced her (and possibly raped her) and says that not only was the decision mutual, but also that the entire town of Einsiedeln knew about it and did not care. Of the Freedom of Choice in the Selection of Food After some of his friends broke the Lent fast by eating some sausages, Zwingli used the opportunity to preach on this matter in 1522. He says that the decision to fast or not to fast does not matter, so long as Christians are given a choice to decide for themselves in the first place. His argument comes from the desire to listen and receive guidance from the Holy Spirit. Besides, he says, the fasting of Lent and other seasons is yet another form of works, and therefore does not matter in regards to salvation as only the grace of God can save a person. Petition to the Bishop of Constance In light of his own relationship with Anna Reinhard and the fact that other members of the clergy are taking wives for themselves, Zwingli writes to the bishop to beg him not to oppose or interfere in the matter of married clergy. Along with The Sniper, O Flaherty s novel The Informer is also based in Dublin in the 1920 s during the Irish Civil War. • 54. Hamlet Madness Analysis One of the most controversial arguments about William Shakespeare s Hamlet is whether Hamlet, indeed, went insane or if his madness was no more than an act. Proof for the latter is given in several instances throughout the play; Hamlet undeniably kept his sanity intact. Loved ones of Hamlet insinuate that he is not mad. Hamlethimself justifies that his mental state is sound. Shakespeare also shows what he believes is the true definition of madness in the character Ophelia, not Hamlet. Even though Hamlet s disposition seems as that of a madman, statements of others around him, declarations from Hamlet himself, and contrasts between Ophelia and Hamlet prove otherwise. Amid his feigning of madness, several individuals suspect that Hamlet truly is sane; encounters with Claudius, Gertrude, and Polonius show that Hamlet s rather false insanity is possibly discovered. Claudius, of course, pays very close attention to every move Hamlet makes. After all, Claudius did kill his father and marry his mother shortly thereafter. When Hamlet begins his mad behavior the king states, ...what he spake, though it lack d form a little, / Was not like madness. There s something in his soul... (56). King Claudius believes that even though Hamlet is acting differently, he is not mad. He specifically states that what Hamlet says is not like madness at all, yet he feels as though there is something else within Hamlet s soul that is bothering him. Upon Claudius and Polonius informing Gertrude of what they believe is the source of Hamlet s behavior, Gertrude reminds them ...that it is no other but the main: his father s death and our [Gertrude and Claudius] o erhasty marriage (35). Thus, both Hamlet s uncle father and aunt mother declare their son sane and decide that something else is making him act oddly apart from madness (44). Even though Polonius says that Hamlet is mad, he comments ...yet there is method in t to suggest that even though Hamlet may be crazy, perhaps there is a reason behind it (39). Polonius also suggests that Hamlet has a way with words and reflects on how pregnant sometimes his replies are... (39). He suggests heavily that perhaps Hamlet is only putting on madness to carry out a plan or a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
