The Utalitarian Approach to Moral Obligation
Wand(1979) expounds on Hume ethical theory in relation to moral obligation is a theory of good and
evil rather than one of duty and obligation , according to Wand (1956:55): this statement is quite
erroneous for Hume does not merely wish to discover the foundation of our moral actions . Hume
account of how motives prompt men to moral actions is quite complex, but Wand (1979) also asserts
that Hume distinguishes between two basic type of action to make it more understandable. The first
type are those action which men will perform without the aid or influence of reason or custom; the
second are those action which it can be expected men will normally perform with the aid or influence
of reason or custom.
Hume distinguishes these two types of action in terms of the specifically moral nature of their motive,
whether or not the action is done from a sense of duty; thus for Hume, there are four classes of action:
The first, are those actions prompted by the natural or moral motives; The second are those actions
prompted by artificial, non moral motive; third; those actions promoted by artificial moral motives. In
consideration of his account of moral motivation; Hume s ultimate intention is to show that it cannot
be a natural duty to carry out certain types of obligation such as being just or keeping promises. Hume
thinks that the actions envisaged cannot constitute duty; it would never be a duty unless human nature
possesses some rational inclination prompting individuals to

Reflective Assignment For Initiative 3
For Initiative 3, I believe this portion of the project went well. However, we were unsuccessful with
achieving our original goal as a team of four. When I first chose this part of the project, I thought we
could raise 200 dollars as a team. Then, after my team and I developed a direct idea for this fundraiser,
we began to realize that a 100 dollar goal would be more realistic. By constructing a 50/50 raffle each
member had over a week to sell 25 tickets. This intended goal was achieved! Thanks to my team
members, we raised 75 dollars. One person from my team was fired, so my team was short on the goal
by 25 dollars. However, the amount of money achieved was still a success for our team because it
reflects the participation of 3 members instead of 4. It also shows that we did not give up on our goal,
even during times of trouble. My team also originally planned to place donation Jars out in the
community, but we had to make a few adjustments since we fired the leader of Initiative 2. I added
parts from initiative 2 to initiative 3, to make the project flow well. These adjustments caused my team
to cut back on the idea of donation jars. Personally, I believe that I did a good job as the team lead. I

The Poet At Seven By Donald Justice
When a reader initially reads Donald Justice s The Poet at Seven, he or she might take the easy route
and conclude it for what it says, only. If this method were taken, the poem s presumed plot would have
been taken quite literally: the poet is reminiscing about his childhood memories; the poem is sweet,
simple, and nostalgic. However, poems are not that simple. They are complex riddles, full of hidden
meaning. To truly shed light on Justice s purpose of the poem, it is necessary to look at the what if s
through its intricate designs of language. The poem s form is an important start when close reading.
Also, to discern the hidden meaning, it is important to consider the specific word choice and how it
paints a picture inside the reader s mind. As a result, the reader will grasp the poem s true intention.
By doing this, the reader will sincerely have an understanding of The Poet at Seven, the way Justice
probably would have wanted.
To begin the steps of interpreting what Justice has to say, it is crucial to analyze the poem as a whole.
The Poet at Seven is a sonnet, but not the typical type of sonnet; the type of poetry that Justice applied
is called a Petrarchan sonnet. Rhymes are used starting with the first line, later pairing it with line
four, and so forth. Justice even expertly applied sight rhymes, words that look like they rhyme, but
technically don t, with the words come and home. It succeeded, just like every other factor in the text.

Gender And Gender Within The American Workforce
Equality has always been a huge topic at the forefront of America for many years. Whether it is
equality for races, religion, gender or sexual orientation, people just desire for life to be equal and fair.
Although much has changed and is continuously changing, women still struggle to be seen as
equivalent to men in the American workforce. Bound by a wage gap that is bias towards the female
species, women have to battle different factors which lead to inequivalent compensation. There are
wage gaps stimulating from gender within the American workforce due to caregiving duties; which
plays a major role in effecting women s compensation, along with experience and education being
overlooked in comparison to males; a female s counterpart, and some wage gap issues are just plain
out a result of discrimination.
Women are typically the caregivers of the family.
Females in all societies exhibit more nurturing behavior than males, both inside and outside the
family. Throughout the world, women are the primary caretakers of the young, the sick, and the old.
Marriage and children have different impacts on men and women. When women marry, and especially
after they have children, they tend to reduce their work involvement, whereas men tend to increase
theirs. (Browne Shiferaw, 2013).
This responsibility often times causes them to accept mediocre jobs and have to juggle a small amount
of work with little to no benefits, then going home to take care of the family. The 2011 article,

The Dichotomy Of Freedom And Slavery Essay
The dichotomy of freedom and slavery in rhetoric and rise of the United States of America has long
been an enigma, a source of endless debate for scholars and citizens alike who wonder how a nation
steeped in the ideals of republicanism could so easily subjugate and enslave an entire group of people.
The Chesapeake region was home to America s great statesmen, men who espoused ideals of freedom
and liberty from tyranny. Yet at the same time, these men held hundreds of men, women, and children
in conditions of lifelong bondage. How then did this dichotomy arise? The dangers posed by
indentured servants that became freemen resulted in the development of a system of African
descended chattel slavery in the Chesapeake, a system whose creation and continuance was aided by a
continuum of racial thinking and racial prejudice aimed at Africans in Virginia.
From the outset, the issue of labor in the Chesapeake was a dominant force in the creation of colonial
society. The origins of colonial labor rested on the shoulders of indentured servants, often unemployed
laborers from England sent to the colony by the Virginia Company. After serving a term of seven
years, each servant was then entitled to freedom and the opportunity to work in the colony to best
achieve individual benefits and the success offered by the New World. The early generations of these
servants turned freemen posed little problem to their former masters as they constituted to small a
segment of the population to

Feminist Inequality
Considered superiority to be tendered man accustomed by women to respect men. Whether at home or
any work environment. There is no equality between genders, even men who identify as gay may not
have the same privileges. And as a feminist, all I seek is for equality. The effort the feminists strive for
equality inspired me to seek equality, because a female deserves to be valued just as a male. The
understanding of inequality is from the friendship of females I am a part of. My female friends have
more masculine traits compared to me and I appreciate their strong traits, but females should be
treated with respect and carry the same value, not degraded for being a woman. Women are just as
capable as men, but are not recognized. My friends are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just because one has an entitlement of being a man, does not give the right to be above women.
Females are taken advantage of sexually, verbally, and consciously. It is wrong and should be handled.
Being a man will give me an advantage positively. How women are treated and degraded is not
acceptable to me. Females have amazing mind and great ideas, but are always brushed off and if a
man steals a woman s idea it is acknowledged and appreciated. I am a feminist to tell with a man s
advantage and spread equality. It is seen through many roles that there will be a greater male
representative compared to a female in any entitlement which should progress. In conclusion, I am a
feminist because I am a man. My word will be valued more, but brings sight to gender inequality.
Being a feminist, is to progress inequality within homes and community and not entitle gender to
compare which is more superior, but rather the

economic changes that most companies will never witness. No company, not even Acacia Alloys, can
survive without responding to the current conditions of the economy, business, unpredictable external
forces and internal fluctuations. None of the tenured staff, some with over 30 years of experience

The communication barriers between the sales managers and staff have been exacerbated by the
unfolding of the personal relationship between the sales managers over the last six years. To further
complicate matters, Acacia Alloys has made the common mistake of replicating a sales plan without a
long term strategy (Havlícek Roubal, 2013).
The personal relationship between the sales managers was unknown to the company prior to their
marriage three years ago. Executive management at Acacia Alloys has not formally addressed this
and, in turn, there are communication barriers between the sales managers and the sales staff. The
sales staff has communicated with executive management about these issues. This information has
been both offered voluntarily from the sales team as well as solicited from the executive team. Beyond
these conversations, the communication concerns have not been addressed. Consequently, this issue
has become more prevalent in the current economic climate.
Due to a number of national and global factors, the demand for crude oil has dropped dramatically
(Mohanty, Akhigbe., Al khyal, Bugshan, 2013). Over the past decade, Acacia Alloys has focused the
majority of its production and new business development in this sector. This one sided approach to
business growth and maintenance has caused a sharp drop in sales volumes, production and new
business. To stay afloat, management has implemented an aggressive pricing strategy.

Mexican War Justified
The Mexican War: Justified or Unjustified?
The Mexican War, or as it was called in Mexico, the American Invasion, was a very controversial
event. Before the Mexican War, people from the US began moving to Texas. Texas was a disputed
territory, as neither country agreed on who owned it. Mexico said they owned, while the US said that
they did. There are many reasons to argue that the Mexican War should/should not have been started.
The Mexican War should not have been started because US settlers in Texas broke Mexican law, the
US invaded Mexico, and the countries had mixed up borders.
Before the Mexican War started, both the US and Mexico had mixed up borders. Mexico thought that
their border was at the Nueces, making Texas part of Mexico. ... Show more content on

incident occurred in the disputed territory (Roden 315). According to this, no country really owned
Texas. Mexico had the Nueces River as their border, while the US thought the Rio Grande to be the

they know if they were invading another land. The Mexican government had to protect their border,
the Nueces (Velasco Marquez 327). This Information shows: Mexico s border was at the Nueces. This
was technically the real border. This evidence shows the US was not justified in going to war because
the borders were mixed up. The US should not have gone to war because of mixed up

A Career As A Veterinary Technician
Veterinarians have a job that acquires a long time to meet the requirements for education and training.
The majority of people studying to become a veterinarian are required to go to college for eight years.
Which is a longer time than a person studying to become a doctor to go to college. The reason is that
veterinarians are required to learn about the different anatomical structures of several different
animals. They must also learn about the illnesses that the animals may acquire and how to treat them.
Veterinarians have various tasks that they must do in their job. The first task is that they care for and

manufacturing companies and food safety inspection facilities (How to Become a Veterinarian). They

The Circle Deceives Mea Summary
Deception With the images of a heavenly campus and ideas of godly powers of the circle, Mae sees

lies and deceptions of the Circle. The Circle deceives Mae into believing lies about privacy, sharing,

Questions On Attachment Theory And Attachment Parenting
Introduction
People can and do get the [attachment] theory confused with attachment parenting. The result of this
may be that some parents, thinking that attachment parenting is too consuming and also because
western society has a need for independence and separation, may then look for alternative methods
that do not involve any form of attachment methods . The purpose of researching these theories is to
gather information about attachment theory for those involved to make informed decisions that do not
involve a specific parenting philosophy that may not suit their family s needs.
Attachment is the method through which people acquire specific positive and close emotional bonds
with others. In mature relationships, people may be equal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Freud believed that infants develop maternal relationships because mothers feed them and satisfy their
hunger. However, animal studies have provided evidence that feeding does not necessarily explain the
attachment. In fact, experiments have found that infant rhesus monkeys raised in an isolated
environment preferred the contact with a comfortable cloth covered surrogate mother, even while
feeding from the nourishing wire surrogate mother, demonstrating that the basis for attachment
relationships does not reside solely in feeding. These experiments also found that the ones raised by
simulated mothers were scared when placed alone in foreign situations.
Another expert, Erik Erikson, proposed an eight stage psychosocial development process. In his
theory, each stage involves a task that must be completed if infants are to successfully move to the
next stage. The initial stage of Trust versus mistrust in psychosocial development arises in the first
year of life. During this stage infants need to develop a sense of trust in themselves and in the world
around them. The infant depends on the parents, with an emphasis on the mother, for nourishment.
Their relative interpretation of world and society stems from the parent child interaction. If the parents
expose the child to consistency, and steady affection, the child s perception will be that of trust.
However, if parents fail to provide a safe environment that meets

Predicting Performance Of Post Graduate Education From...
Predicting performance in post graduate education from admissions information comparisons of health
professions with pharmacy
Richard E Wilcox, PhD* and Kenneth A Lawson, PhD ABSTRACT
Objectives. The goal of the present review was to assess the state of performance prediction in health
care programs generally, versus performance in pharmacy schools, using didactic and non didactic
admissions measures. This is important because clinical success represents a combination of skills that
are not fully predicted by either type of measure alone.
Methods. PubMed searches were conducted focusing on work published from 2000 onwards, since it
is during this period that non didactic admissions measures have come to be incorporated into the
applicant evaluation process. Relevant papers that were available as free full text were used. When
these papers were not available by direct import into EndNote, we went directly to the journal to try to
retrieve the paper.
Results. Published literature clearly showed that prediction of performance in the didactic portions of
health care programs is straightforward when based on pre health care GPA and achievement test
scores. The best predictions are achieved when both measures are combined. While significant
statistical prediction is achieved in virtually every study, the percent of total performance variance
accounted for is also consistent and uniformly small in the order of 25%. Similarly, there is now an
emerging consensus that

narrators. The main character in this story is Lue Gim Gong, a Chinese immigrant who gives up his
country and family to pursue his passion for botany. Three women that knew him the best narrate Lue
Gim Gong s story from three distinct cultures and three distinct points of view. They include his
mother Sum Jui, his teacher Fanny Burlingame, and a friend that he makes named Sheba. Their

Fanny also converts Lue to Christianity and encourages his garden research but keeps him financially
dependent. Fanny is the daughter of a strict industrialist; she is well drawn in this novel. She is too
strong to accept the lack of power women faced at the time. Uninterested in men, she invests all of her
emotions in Jesus until she meets Lue Gim Gong.
She sees Lue as her creation; others see him as her pet. In fact, he is more independent than she can
accept. Rudely rejecting the possibility of a positive influence from his own family, she says how she
made him as much of an improved variety of Chinaman as his salmonberry, cherry currant, and
tomato were of plants (McCunn, 154). Though her closeness to him it allows her to be offended by
others racism, as she regards him as someone special rather than a typical Chinaman. After Fanny s
death, he was barred from the church they had regularly worshipped in, on account of his color.
Finally there is Sheba, Fanny s black servant whose father was murdered by the Ku Klux Klan shortly
after winning his freedom from slavery. Sheba worked alongside Lue in the orange groves and
probably understood him best. This is because Sheba s eyes were the least blinded by prejudice and
ignorance. Unlike their white neighbors, neither Lue nor Sheba was too proud to share their different
knowledge and company.

The Theory Of Child Development
In the early 19th Century, little attention was given to children development. Emphasis were based
upon what a child would become as they get older( Green 2013)However, it was investigated by
human developmental psychologist that Child development is relevant in relation to how individuals
relate in the environment as well as the factors that influence human development. These
psychologists developed the human developmental life span which is predominant in the society
today, although remains unsubstantiated because of the dynamics of individuals and the environment.

Canonical Criteria The purpose of this essay is to discuss and give some explanation and knowledge
of the elements and relevant information as it relates to the Canonical Criteria. The Biblical canon that
we find in Jewish Christian are listed in and throughout the various books in the Bible. They are
recognized as being inspired by God which makes them sacred. They are very profound and valid to
the particular religion or community group of believers as it pertains to their faith and livelihood in the
Kingdom of God. The word canon is derived from the Greek word (kanon) which is define as a reed.

Even though the authenticity has been challenged even rejected by many Biblical critics and scholars.
It would and could be a possibility of proving that the canon were written by apostles. The second is
the orthodoxy. This would go without saying that any canonical book must be orthodox because God
would not permit his word to teach falsehood but only the truth. The positive or strengths would be
that the criterion had to be orthodox or they would be disregard and not worth and disqualified
material by this application of whether or not it was orthodox. The negative or weakness would be that
anything that would violate the orthodox would not be viewed as a canonical. This was demonstrated
in the early church and they did not handle the criterion easily because of their lack of wanting to
acknowledge the Hebrews and the reservation about Revelations (Nicole, 1997).
The third is the christocentricity which Martin Luther describes as Jesus Christ being the center of the
entire book of the Bible. The positive or strength is that there is truth about Jesus Christ being the
center of the Bible. The negative or weakness is that the principle that was used in the connection with
other criteria such as apostolicity. The fourth is the inspiration because the canonical books are
inspired by God, some authors like Laird Harris feel that is the real criterion to be implemented. The

naked lunch Essay
The play Naked Lunch by Michael Hollinger focuses on the relationship between the two characters
Vernon and Lucy. The two had previously had a romantic relationship, but for whatever reason ended
it. In an attempt to get Lucy back, Vernon invites her to have a steak dinner with him. When Lucy
refuses to eat the steak (due to the fact that she is now a vegetarian), things quickly take the turn for
the worst. Throughout the play Vernon is controlling, demeaning, manipulative and abusive, and
though it seems that Lucy tried to turn her life around and wants better for herself, she is submissive
towards him. While telling the story of a previously estranged couple, Michael Hollinger uses

The fact that Lucy is now a vegetarian is a huge part of this play. It shows us that she is not only trying
to make herself a better person than she was while in the relationship with Vernon, but also that she is
done with Vernon, (or at least wants to be). Lucy said she had done some soul searching while they
were separated and decided to not eat meat. This decision is a metaphor for Lucy deciding she want to

Lucy that she has no good reason to leave him and should stop listening to her family and friends.
Lastly, the steak is also a metaphor for rape. The way Vernon forces the meat in her mouth is symbolic
of him forcing himself on Lucy. She is terrified while he is assaulting her They are locked in a

Anyone transferring, using, touching, or working with hazardous materials should be trained so they

There were 14 employees who did not have any training on HAZMAT. There is also another incident
that states a company failed to properly train their employees on how to properly package and label
HAZMAT product which caused acceptance of cargo on an airplane that should have not been
accepted. These are just a couple of incidents that discussed in this press release. If those employees
would have been trained, there may not have been a safety incident that caused fines to these
companies. The worst part is, is the employees had no idea what to do in any of these incidents. They
could have been hurt or even caused harm against others and it would not have necessarily been their
fault. One way to reduce these incidents is risk management. Risk management is a program to reduce
risks in a business in any way possible by forecasting and evaluating. According to the US Department
of Transportation, the Hazardous Materials Safety Program is, designed to reduce the probability and

Analysis Of Vimy Ridge
The first photo in this image was taken between 1900 1919, when women were required to wear long
dresses and shirts to cover up their body because it was not acceptable for women to show their legs.
Then in the 1920s women began wearing knee length skirts because they felt they shouldn t be
shamed for their bodies along with the necessary need to save material so the skirts were made shorter.
Many women greeted this new look with pleasure and saw it as more practical and better suited to a
time when women were entering the workforce. Women started fighting for their rights which they
deserved in 1924 with protests by many women who felt the shorter skirts were more youthful and
modern. Vimy Ridge is a very significant battle as it is marked

Case Study Of Audit Diagnostics
Market type, Marketing Strategy, Market share, competition:
From the information gathered in this report, it is clear that Audit Diagnostics had neither sufficient
presence in their market type nor focus on their marketing strategy. I believe this is what ultimately
caused their downfall. With most other companies we would be discussing advertising, promotions
and relationships with other companies, but Audit Diagnostics marketing is so undeveloped, the
website has not even been designed. They have no presence on TV, in newspapers or even online.
Audit Diagnostics is the perfect example of a company that failed to recognize the importance of
marketing. As a consequence the company has failed and is going into liquidation.
Competition: Based in Carrigtwohill, Co. Cork, there are many pharmaceutical companies in
surrounding areas such as GE Healthcare and Pfizer. If we are looking at Audit Diagnostics as a whole
(i.e. a company creating and innovating in the field of biology), then many competitors could be
identified including those mentioned above. But due to the wide range of products and services it is
necessary to delve deeper into the specifics of what Audit Diagnostics did in ... Show more content on

Their principal activity was manufacturing pharmaceutical products. This means that essentially their

market type was not the same as most other companies. In order to get products to their consumer
base, they had to re direct products into the hands of healthcare professionals across the country. This
is also crucial for health and safety reasons due to the sensitivity of their products. Audit Diagnostics

Analysis Of The Book The Chronicles Of Narnia
Kendall Childers
Dr. Sagerson
ENGL 1302
September 14, 2015
Noble Act
Andrew Anderson s film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, The Wardrobe starts off with
four siblings who are escaping from the air strikes of World War II. The children escape to an old man
s mansion where they find a wardrobe that has a magical doorway to a mystical land called Narnia.
While they are walking in Narnia their brother wonders off and finds the evil White Witch who lures
him in through gluttony away from the siblings. The others find out more about the mysterious land
through other talking animals and eventually make their way into a camp. The camp they find has the
protector of the land as their leader Aslan; Aslan is the savior of Narnia from the evil White Witch.
Toward the end of the film, a battle occurs between Aslan s followers and the White Witch s army;
needless to say, Aslan s side won and defeated the evil White Witch. After the battle, the siblings were
crowned Kings and Queens of Narnia in place of Aslan, so Aslan himself can help other worlds. The
end of the movie occurs, when the children are adults now, and they stumble across the other side of
the wardrobe where they go back to the age they were before discovering Narnia. The film The
Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe by Andrew Adamson demonstrate the
humankind s redemption through character and plot. Anyone who has seen The Chronicles of Narnia:

Examine the Key Ideas of Situation Ethics
Examine the Key Ideas of Situation Ethics (21 Marks)
In this essay, I am going to examine the key features of Situation Ethics. Situation Ethics is a
teleological theory that resolves ethical and moral issues relative to the situation and was developed at
a time when society and the church were facing drastic and permanent change. It is most commonly
associated with Joseph Fletcher and J.A.T Robinson and also William Barclay. Situation Ethics is also
considered to be the method of ethical decision making that states that you must consider noble love
(agapé) in decision making and that a moral decision is correct if it is the most loving thing to do. The
theory is based upon this idea of agapé love which is defined by William Barclay ... Show more

Robinson and Paul Tillich suggested that God could be understood as the ground of our being , of
ultimate significance, but not a dues ex machine , a supernatural being who intervenes in the world
from outside it. In other words God is part of people not this almighty being who gives instructions for
us to follow.
Fletcher (who I will discuss later) used examples from the Bible to show that a strict application of
rules was no longer needed and was in line with what Jesus thought too. Fletcher used quotes from the
Bible as an illustration of old versus new morality. He used the example of the adulterous woman
when Jesus saved her from being stoned to death even though the law permitted it. This situation is a
clear example of Personalism which Fletcher used to illustrate his theory. Another example that
Fletcher identified from the Bible was when Jesus confronted the Pharisees over what the Sabbath
Day was intended for. In order to follow strict Jewish law absolutely nothing could be done on this
day, often to the detriment of people. Jesus wanted people to follow the spirit in which God had given
the law rather than following it and acting immorally in some cases. Whilst Fletcher described agape
love as the only intrinsically good thing, William Barclay defined agape love as unconquerable good
will; it is the determination to seek the other man s highest good, no matter what he does to

Banking, Liquidity and Bank Runs
Banking, Liquidity and Bank Runs in an In...nite Horizon Economy
Mark Gertler and Nobuhiro Kiyotaki NYU and Princeton University May 2012
Abstract We develop a variation of the macroeconomic model of banking in Gertler and Kiyotaki
(GK2011) that allows for household liquidity risks and bank runs as in Diamond and Dybvig
(DD1983). As in GK, because bank net worth ‡ uctuates with aggregate production, the spread in the
expected rates of return on bank credit and deposit ‡ uctuates countercyclically. However, because
bank assets have a longer maturity than deposits, bank runs are possible as in DD. Whether a bank run
equilibrium exists depends on the condition of bank balance sheets and an equilibrium liquidation
price for bank assets. Thus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As in Gertler and Karadi (2011) and Gertler and Kiyotaki (2011), endogenous procyclical movements
in bank balance sheets lead to countercyclical movements in the cost of bank credit. At the same time,
due to maturity mismatch, bank runs may be possible, following Diamond and Dybvig (1983).
Whether or not a bank run equilibrium exists will depend on two key factors: the condition of bank
balance sheets and an endogenously determined liquidation price. Thus, a situation can arise where a
bank run cannot occur in normal times, but where a severe recession can open up the possibility.
Critical to the possibility of runs is that banks issues demandable short term debt. In our baseline
model we simply assume this is the case. We then provide a stronger motivation for this scenario by
introducing household liquidity risks, in the spirit of Diamond and Dybvig. Section 2 presents the
model, including both a no bank run and a bank run equilibria, along with the extension to the
economy with household liquidity risks. Section 3 presents a number of illustrative numerical
experiments. We illustrate how bank balance sheet behavior a¤ects the cost of credit in the no bank
run equilibrium and how it may open up the possibility of destructive bank run behavior. Finally, in
section 4 we conclude with a discussion of policies that can reduce the likelihood of bank runs. As in
Diamond and Dybvig, there is a role for deposit

Machine Stops Analysis
The short stories Speech Sounds and The Machine Stops demonstrate how human desire for isolation
and dependency on technology result in the loss of the ability to empathize and connect, producing a
dystopia. The Machine Stops is a story about how human dependency on technology results in the loss
of the ability to connect, producing a dystopia. This is illustrated in the scene where the citizens of the
Machine era are engaging in a communal reflection on how the Machine is to credit for the
advancement of their society. The tone of this scene is reverent as the citizens repeat the phrase How
we have advanced, thanks to the Machine! (Forster 10). The ritual of repeating this slogan is a form of
public worship as the citizens are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The citizens viewing the Book and the Machine religiously as items with complex identities, skills,
and power, demonstrates how humans will inherently lose their own identity and power in the process
of giving technology an identity. Despite the loss of their own identity and power, the citizens of the
Machine era pridefully declare their society as advanced in comparison to before the dawn of
civilization (Forster 10). They credit the Machine for their advancements as they view the pre
Machine era as inadequate and degenerate. Ironically, their pride is misplaced as the people of the
Machine era are not advanced. The people who built the Machine were advanced, innovative, and
knowledgeable, but when the people of the Machine era forgot that humans are the ones who gave the
Machine life and thus have the power to control it, they stagnated their own progress and allowed
themselves to become disconnected. Their false proclamation demonstrates the irony of humanity s
tendency to worship man made creations as bigger and more powerful than the men who gave the
machines life revealing a loss of worth in human intelligence and identity.
Due to the belief that humans are inadequate in comparison to the god like Machine, the citizens of the
Machine era would rather live in isolation and what they perceive as comfort rather than build human
relationships. In this scene, the people are engaging in a communal,

Suspense In The Hound Of The Baskervilles
Everyone off us has stayed up all night at the edge of our bed waiting to find out what will happen
next; 83.3% of all Americans have have done this. Suspense is any time a person is craving to know
what will happen next. Authors use various elements such as cliffhanger, delayed answers ,and many
more to create suspense. Elements are important if a author wants a successful suspenseful story.
However, setting and delayed answers are necessary for the development of a successful suspenseful
story. One important element, setting is necessary for the development of a successful suspenseful
story. In The Hound of the Baskervilles Arthur Conan Doyle used the moor to create suspense he says,
behind the peaceful and sunlit countryside the long, gloomy curve of the moor broken by the jagged
and sinister hills. Doyle uses word such as gloomy and sinister to create suspense. They create
suspense because off there meaning of evil and depression. In The ... Show more content on

In The Hound of the Baskervilles Doyle has a question in the starting of the, how and who killed Sir
Charles. This question was delayed until the end. It was then figured during a dialogue, Stapleton was
with me when I heard It last... No, no he was with a hound. The question of who and how Sir Charles
died is what the story is based upon, and the author doesn t reveal the answer till the end. The delaying
of questions causes the reader wanting to know the answer ,and causes suspense in the reader. Another
example is the The Monkey s Paw when the characters question if the monkey s paw is real, the
wishes will turn out to come true. They ask Monkeys Paw? Said Mrs White curiously and later
wonders, Has anybody else wished a true wish. The characters and readers both shared the feelings of
mystery and curiosity. The author uses this to his advantage by not relieving the answer till the end to

The Imaginary Comparison of A Very Old Man With Enormous...
Giants and Angels roam the pages of Gabriel Garcia Marquez s stories, A Very Old Man With
Enormous Wings , and The Handsomest Drowned Man In The World , creating the perfect scene for
magical realism. Many of the elements within these stories coincide with each other; this has
everything to do with the overall component of magical realism, which binds together similarities and
sets apart differences. The theme of each story can be found within the other and can stand by itself to
represent the story it belongs to, the settings are similar in location and the ability to change but
different in their downsides and the writing style is so similar it is complicated to find any differences.
Marquez is a master story teller whose works of art ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first story shows this theme through the man not killing the angel and later showing enough
compassion for him to allow him to sleep in the shed. Also, the people are content with their lives
even though their house is filled with crabs. They are not wishing for something more. The
Handsomest Drowned Man shows its own theme through the women being so compassionate towards
a dead man. They even take the time to sew him pants because he doesn t fit into any of the pants that
the regular sized men wear. They also spent time thinking of how tragic his life must have been
because he could not fit through any doors, displaying empathy towards him. But their disgrace is that
they end up wishing that their own men could be like the drowned man whom they named Esteban.
They secretly compared him to their own men, thinking that for all their lives theirs were incapable of
doing what he could do in one night, and they ended up dismissing them deep in their hearts as the
weakest, meanest and most useless creatures on earth . The reason why this story could also have the
same theme as A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings is because the women longed for their men to
defy nature and be as strong and mighty as the drowned man. The longing for this ruins the natural
course of things because Esteban is dead, and the women are already

The Structure Of Scientific Revolution By Thomas Kuhn
Thomas Kuhn s seminal book The Structure of Scientific Revolution was first published in 1962 and
in just a little more than half century its influence on science and impact on other fields has been
anything but influential. The Structure has even alleviated right up there with the usual suspect,
namely the Bible and Freud. Essentially the Structure purpose is to reconstruct the image of science
and its development and to deconstruct the received view, which paints the picture of science as
stockpiling of facts and progressing linearly, in a cumulative manner and ever marching toward the
ultimate truth. Yet, as an alternative view, Kuhn guides the reader to reconsider such misleading image
of development of science. The reconstruction of this peculiar image includes the progress through
normal science, the process by which interrupted by anomaly and this lead to the invention of new
theory and in return brought about new paradigm shift and ultimately leads to scientific revolution. In
the meantime, although he does not deny scientific knowledge is cumulative but the radical shift from
one dominate theory to another where revolution is at the center destroys such picture of continuity
due to two successive theories being incommensurable and incompatible. As a result of this shift,
Kuhn argues that a theory choice which may or may not take long period of time achieved not merely
through logic and experimentation but what persuades scientists is the external factors or

Comparison of Behaviorism and the Humanistic Approach
It is said that humanistic psychology was developed upon the limitations of behaviourism. The
humanistic approach is often referred to as the third force in psychology coming after psychoanalysis
and behaviourism; it is an alternative approach to psychology (Maslow, 1968). It offered a more
wholesome approach to psychology at the time in comparison to behaviourism and psychoanalysis.
This essay will compare and contrast behaviourism and humanistic psychology; it will focus on their
contributions to psychological theory and their applications in the real world. Why don t we make
what can be observed the real field of psychology (Watson, 1929). Watson (1878 1958) was born into
a poor family in South Carolina. His mother was a religious woman, and his father drank a lot and had
multiple affairs (Watson, 1999). Watson himself married twice, having two children in each marriage.
He didn t seem to have good relationships with his children it is said that one of the main reasons for
this may be because he used his children throughout his research. He studied in the University of
Chicago where he later became known as the founder of Behaviourism. He wrote an essay in 1914
titled Psychology as the Behaviourist views it where he stated that behaviourism is an objective
experimental branch of natural science (Watson, 1914). Behaviourism is a theory of learning that
argues that all behaviours are acquired through conditioning (Carver Scheier, 2012). Behaviourists

Distrigas Corporation
Q1. As per the provided information the Gas Utility companies pays a base commodity charge of
$.3359 plus a peak usage demand of charge that is $4.63 per Mcf multiplied by the total demand
during the maximum take day in the last 12 months which is 240 in this case. The cost per MCF can
be derived by the below formula
(Commodity Base Charge * Total Demand) + (Peak Usage Demand Charge* High Peak in 1 day*
months in year)
This will translate into
($ 0.3359*30,700,000 Mcf)+ ($ 4.63*240*12) = $ 23,646,530
By substituting the appropriate values in the formula we arrive at a cost of $ 23,646,530. This cost is

However, the proposal A for Distrigas would cost only $29,376,000, or savings of $252,140. The

Distrigas strategy should be to maximize on its competitive rate and endeavor itself as a cost leader,
promising speed delivery, reliability and meeting the right quantity when needed the most, all at most
cost efficient rate possible. To be cost efficient it needs to operate economically such as storing the
right amount of gas needed. It has to improve on its storage and deliver the gas in the best cost
efficient using the right mode of transportation possible. The biggest threat could be when consumers
like Boston Gas decide to build their own storage facilities and therefore start sourcing directly from
the pipeline gas providers, to be stored for usage during peak season.
Q4. Proposal A: Slow Build up Strategy In this proposal infrastructure will be built and machinery and
trucks purchased to allow Distrigas to slowly build up inventories at the customer location. This
strategy includes building a satellite tank which will serve as a reserve for the gas that is brought in by
Alozean. It takes 250 days to build up inventories to satisfy peak demand. This model requires 6
trucks to carry the gas over the 250 day period. Field tanks will need to be built at the customer
location in order to hold the gas that will service the peak demand and this will cost $

Theme Of Communication In The Hunger Games
Every good story has many communication errors and successes in order to create a relatable
entertainment piece. After watching the popular dystopian novel story come to life in film, I have
chosen to dig deeper into the complexity of the ways in which communication plays a key role in the
Hunger Games. To better understand the messages and plot in the story, I will evaluate the character
identities, audience perceptions, and cultural differences that affect the contestants survival.
In the Hunger Games, one young male and one young female are randomly selected from each
District, or town, every year to go into war with one another. Only one of the twenty four make it back
out of the game alive. The mayor announces the chosen ones every year at a ceremony known as the
reaping, where he explains the history and purpose of the games. There was a war in the past between
the Capitol and the Districts. Since the Capitol won, they hold the Hunger Games in honor of their
victory. The story mostly focuses on a specific Hunger Games tribute, Katniss Everdeen, who chose to
volunteer for her sister who was originally chosen as tribute. Katniss and District 12 s boy tribute,
Peeta, are shipped off to train for the games for a few weeks in order to learn more about how the
game is played and how the Capitol actually has a huge hand on who wins depending on their
likeability. People who live in the Capitol actually send survival gifts in the games, which is the key to
winning.

A Hunting Trip with Friends in Hunters in the Snow by...
Hunters in the Snow by Tobias Wolff is about three friends Tub,Kenny, and Frank who have arranged
to go hunting which is something that they do on a regular basis. Kenny taunts Tub about him being
overweight and Frank about his affair with a 15 year old girl. Throughout the entire day of the hunting
trip, Kenny was taunting the two men. A series of events takes place on the hunting trip which makes
it noticeable that their problems are much deeper than just one day of hunting, Kenny taunts and
bullies the men on a more regular basis than just this one day of hunting which leads up to the men
letting Kenny die in the back of the truck. Kenny showed that he does not care about the men or their
surroundings during the peak of the story when he shoots the dog in the head. When Tub asks him
why he did that he replies He was just barking . (Pg.170) Kenny says that Tub will be next to be shot
as he continues to just shoot anything in sight. Kenny than turns to Tub and says that he hates him
while pointing the gun at him. Tub doesn t want to be shot and killed like the dog so he takes matters
into his own hands and shoots Kenny first. Once Tub shoots Kenny he goes into a moment of regret
thinking what did he just do? Asking Kenny if he is okay, saying that they need to call a ambulance,
saying almost that he will rat himself out in order to make sure that Kenny is okay. Tub does care what
Kenny and Frank think of him which makes him the most sensitive of the three men.

  • 2. The Utalitarian Approach to Moral Obligation Wand(1979) expounds on Hume ethical theory in relation to moral obligation is a theory of good and evil rather than one of duty and obligation , according to Wand (1956:55): this statement is quite erroneous for Hume does not merely wish to discover the foundation of our moral actions . Hume account of how motives prompt men to moral actions is quite complex, but Wand (1979) also asserts that Hume distinguishes between two basic type of action to make it more understandable. The first type are those action which men will perform without the aid or influence of reason or custom; the second are those action which it can be expected men will normally perform with the aid or influence of reason or custom. Hume distinguishes these two types of action in terms of the specifically moral nature of their motive, whether or not the action is done from a sense of duty; thus for Hume, there are four classes of action: The first, are those actions prompted by the natural or moral motives; The second are those actions prompted by artificial, non moral motive; third; those actions promoted by artificial moral motives. In consideration of his account of moral motivation; Hume s ultimate intention is to show that it cannot be a natural duty to carry out certain types of obligation such as being just or keeping promises. Hume thinks that the actions envisaged cannot constitute duty; it would never be a duty unless human nature possesses some rational inclination prompting individuals to ... • 3. Reflective Assignment For Initiative 3 For Initiative 3, I believe this portion of the project went well. However, we were unsuccessful with achieving our original goal as a team of four. When I first chose this part of the project, I thought we could raise 200 dollars as a team. Then, after my team and I developed a direct idea for this fundraiser, we began to realize that a 100 dollar goal would be more realistic. By constructing a 50/50 raffle each member had over a week to sell 25 tickets. This intended goal was achieved! Thanks to my team members, we raised 75 dollars. One person from my team was fired, so my team was short on the goal by 25 dollars. However, the amount of money achieved was still a success for our team because it reflects the participation of 3 members instead of 4. It also shows that we did not give up on our goal, even during times of trouble. My team also originally planned to place donation Jars out in the community, but we had to make a few adjustments since we fired the leader of Initiative 2. I added parts from initiative 2 to initiative 3, to make the project flow well. These adjustments caused my team to cut back on the idea of donation jars. Personally, I believe that I did a good job as the team lead. I love how the raffle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. The Poet At Seven By Donald Justice When a reader initially reads Donald Justice s The Poet at Seven, he or she might take the easy route and conclude it for what it says, only. If this method were taken, the poem s presumed plot would have been taken quite literally: the poet is reminiscing about his childhood memories; the poem is sweet, simple, and nostalgic. However, poems are not that simple. They are complex riddles, full of hidden meaning. To truly shed light on Justice s purpose of the poem, it is necessary to look at the what if s through its intricate designs of language. The poem s form is an important start when close reading. Also, to discern the hidden meaning, it is important to consider the specific word choice and how it paints a picture inside the reader s mind. As a result, the reader will grasp the poem s true intention. By doing this, the reader will sincerely have an understanding of The Poet at Seven, the way Justice probably would have wanted. To begin the steps of interpreting what Justice has to say, it is crucial to analyze the poem as a whole. The Poet at Seven is a sonnet, but not the typical type of sonnet; the type of poetry that Justice applied is called a Petrarchan sonnet. Rhymes are used starting with the first line, later pairing it with line four, and so forth. Justice even expertly applied sight rhymes, words that look like they rhyme, but technically don t, with the words come and home. It succeeded, just like every other factor in the text. The Poet at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Gender And Gender Within The American Workforce Equality has always been a huge topic at the forefront of America for many years. Whether it is equality for races, religion, gender or sexual orientation, people just desire for life to be equal and fair. Although much has changed and is continuously changing, women still struggle to be seen as equivalent to men in the American workforce. Bound by a wage gap that is bias towards the female species, women have to battle different factors which lead to inequivalent compensation. There are wage gaps stimulating from gender within the American workforce due to caregiving duties; which plays a major role in effecting women s compensation, along with experience and education being overlooked in comparison to males; a female s counterpart, and some wage gap issues are just plain out a result of discrimination. Women are typically the caregivers of the family. Females in all societies exhibit more nurturing behavior than males, both inside and outside the family. Throughout the world, women are the primary caretakers of the young, the sick, and the old. Marriage and children have different impacts on men and women. When women marry, and especially after they have children, they tend to reduce their work involvement, whereas men tend to increase theirs. (Browne Shiferaw, 2013). This responsibility often times causes them to accept mediocre jobs and have to juggle a small amount of work with little to no benefits, then going home to take care of the family. • 6. The Dichotomy Of Freedom And Slavery Essay The dichotomy of freedom and slavery in rhetoric and rise of the United States of America has long been an enigma, a source of endless debate for scholars and citizens alike who wonder how a nation steeped in the ideals of republicanism could so easily subjugate and enslave an entire group of people. The Chesapeake region was home to America s great statesmen, men who espoused ideals of freedom and liberty from tyranny. Yet at the same time, these men held hundreds of men, women, and children in conditions of lifelong bondage. How then did this dichotomy arise? The dangers posed by indentured servants that became freemen resulted in the development of a system of African descended chattel slavery in the Chesapeake, a system whose creation and continuance was aided by a continuum of racial thinking and racial prejudice aimed at Africans in Virginia. From the outset, the issue of labor in the Chesapeake was a dominant force in the creation of colonial society. The origins of colonial labor rested on the shoulders of indentured servants, often unemployed laborers from England sent to the colony by the Virginia Company. After serving a term of seven years, each servant was then entitled to freedom and the opportunity to work in the colony to best achieve individual benefits and the success offered by the New World. The early generations of these servants turned freemen posed little problem to their former masters as they constituted to small a segment of the population to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Feminist Inequality Considered superiority to be tendered man accustomed by women to respect men. Whether at home or any work environment. There is no equality between genders, even men who identify as gay may not have the same privileges. And as a feminist, all I seek is for equality. The effort the feminists strive for equality inspired me to seek equality, because a female deserves to be valued just as a male. The understanding of inequality is from the friendship of females I am a part of. My female friends have more masculine traits compared to me and I appreciate their strong traits, but females should be treated with respect and carry the same value, not degraded for being a woman. Women are just as capable as men, but are not recognized. My friends are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just because one has an entitlement of being a man, does not give the right to be above women. Females are taken advantage of sexually, verbally, and consciously. It is wrong and should be handled. Being a man will give me an advantage positively. How women are treated and degraded is not acceptable to me. Females have amazing mind and great ideas, but are always brushed off and if a man steals a woman s idea it is acknowledged and appreciated. I am a feminist to tell with a man s advantage and spread equality. It is seen through many roles that there will be a greater male representative compared to a female in any entitlement which should progress. In conclusion, I am a feminist because I am a man. My word will be valued more, but brings sight to gender inequality. Over the past century, the company has seen economic changes that most companies will never witness. No company, not even Acacia Alloys, can survive without responding to the current conditions of the economy, business, unpredictable external forces and internal fluctuations. None of the tenured staff, some with over 30 years of experience each, can recall such a sharp and protracted downturn in business. Due to this swift and unavoidable circumstance, Acacia Alloys must take this opportunity to review and improve. The communication barriers between the sales managers and staff have been exacerbated by the unfolding of the personal relationship between the sales managers over the last six years. To further complicate matters, Acacia Alloys has made the common mistake of replicating a sales plan without a long term strategy (Havlícek Roubal, 2013). The personal relationship between the sales managers was unknown to the company prior to their marriage three years ago. Executive management at Acacia Alloys has not formally addressed this and, in turn, there are communication barriers between the sales managers and the sales staff. The sales staff has communicated with executive management about these issues. This information has been both offered voluntarily from the sales team as well as solicited from the executive team. Beyond these conversations, the communication concerns have not been addressed. Consequently, this issue has become more prevalent in the current economic climate. Due to a number of national and global factors, the demand for crude oil has dropped dramatically (Mohanty, Akhigbe., Al khyal, Bugshan, 2013). Over the past decade, Acacia Alloys has focused the majority of its production and new business development in this sector. This one sided approach to business growth and maintenance has caused a sharp drop in sales volumes, production and new business. To stay afloat, management has implemented an aggressive pricing strategy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Mexican War Justified The Mexican War: Justified or Unjustified? The Mexican War, or as it was called in Mexico, the American Invasion, was a very controversial event. Before the Mexican War, people from the US began moving to Texas. Texas was a disputed territory, as neither country agreed on who owned it. Mexico said they owned, while the US said that they did. There are many reasons to argue that the Mexican War should/should not have been started. The Mexican War should not have been started because US settlers in Texas broke Mexican law, the US invaded Mexico, and the countries had mixed up borders. Before the Mexican War started, both the US and Mexico had mixed up borders. Mexico thought that their border was at the Nueces, making Texas part of Mexico. ... Mexico thought soldiers were deep into Mexico, while the US thought they were in Texas. The incident occurred in the disputed territory (Roden 315). According to this, no country really owned Texas. Mexico had the Nueces River as their border, while the US thought the Rio Grande to be the border (Roden 315). The borders were mixed up, so no one country was in their own land, nor could they know if they were invading another land. The Mexican government had to protect their border, the Nueces (Velasco Marquez 327). This Information shows: Mexico s border was at the Nueces. This was technically the real border. This evidence shows the US was not justified in going to war because the borders were mixed up. The US should not have gone to war because of mixed up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The majority of people studying to become a veterinarian are required to go to college for eight years. Which is a longer time than a person studying to become a doctor to go to college. The reason is that veterinarians are required to learn about the different anatomical structures of several different animals. They must also learn about the illnesses that the animals may acquire and how to treat them. Veterinarians have various tasks that they must do in their job. • 12. Questions On Attachment Theory And Attachment Parenting Introduction People can and do get the [attachment] theory confused with attachment parenting. The result of this may be that some parents, thinking that attachment parenting is too consuming and also because western society has a need for independence and separation, may then look for alternative methods that do not involve any form of attachment methods . The purpose of researching these theories is to gather information about attachment theory for those involved to make informed decisions that do not involve a specific parenting philosophy that may not suit their family s needs. Attachment is the method through which people acquire specific positive and close emotional bonds with others. In mature relationships, people may be equal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Freud believed that infants develop maternal relationships because mothers feed them and satisfy their hunger. However, animal studies have provided evidence that feeding does not necessarily explain the attachment. In fact, experiments have found that infant rhesus monkeys raised in an isolated environment preferred the contact with a comfortable cloth covered surrogate mother, even while feeding from the nourishing wire surrogate mother, demonstrating that the basis for attachment relationships does not reside solely in feeding. These experiments also found that the ones raised by simulated mothers were scared when placed alone in foreign situations. Another expert, Erik Erikson, proposed an eight stage psychosocial development process. In his theory, each stage involves a task that must be completed if infants are to successfully move to the next stage. The initial stage of Trust versus mistrust in psychosocial development arises in the first year of life. During this stage infants need to develop a sense of trust in themselves and in the world around them. The infant depends on the parents, with an emphasis on the mother, for nourishment. Their relative interpretation of world and society stems from the parent child interaction. If the parents expose the child to consistency, and steady affection, the child s perception will be that of trust. However, if parents fail to provide a safe environment that meets ... Predicting performance in post graduate education from admissions information comparisons of health professions with pharmacy Richard E Wilcox, PhD* and Kenneth A Lawson, PhD ABSTRACT Objectives. The goal of the present review was to assess the state of performance prediction in health care programs generally, versus performance in pharmacy schools, using didactic and non didactic admissions measures. This is important because clinical success represents a combination of skills that are not fully predicted by either type of measure alone. Methods. PubMed searches were conducted focusing on work published from 2000 onwards, since it is during this period that non didactic admissions measures have come to be incorporated into the applicant evaluation process. Relevant papers that were available as free full text were used. When these papers were not available by direct import into EndNote, we went directly to the journal to try to retrieve the paper. Results. Published literature clearly showed that prediction of performance in the didactic portions of health care programs is straightforward when based on pre health care GPA and achievement test scores. The best predictions are achieved when both measures are combined. While significant statistical prediction is achieved in virtually every study, the percent of total performance variance accounted for is also consistent and uniformly small in the order of 25%. Similarly, there is now an emerging consensus that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Biblical canon that we find in Jewish Christian are listed in and throughout the various books in the Bible. They are recognized as being inspired by God which makes them sacred. The positive or strengths would be that the criterion had to be orthodox or they would be disregard and not worth and disqualified material by this application of whether or not it was orthodox. The negative or weakness would be that anything that would violate the orthodox would not be viewed as a canonical. This was demonstrated in the early church and they did not handle the criterion easily because of their lack of wanting to acknowledge the Hebrews and the reservation about Revelations (Nicole, 1997). The third is the christocentricity which Martin Luther describes as Jesus Christ being the center of the entire book of the Bible. The positive or strength is that there is truth about Jesus Christ being the center of the Bible. Situation Ethics is a teleological theory that resolves ethical and moral issues relative to the situation and was developed at a time when society and the church were facing drastic and permanent change. It is most commonly associated with Joseph Fletcher and J.A.T Robinson and also William Barclay. Situation Ethics is also considered to be the method of ethical decision making that states that you must consider noble love (agapé) in decision making and that a moral decision is correct if it is the most loving thing to do. Robinson and Paul Tillich suggested that God could be understood as the ground of our being , of ultimate significance, but not a dues ex machine , a supernatural being who intervenes in the world from outside it. In other words God is part of people not this almighty being who gives instructions for us to follow. Fletcher (who I will discuss later) used examples from the Bible to show that a strict application of rules was no longer needed and was in line with what Jesus thought too. Fletcher used quotes from the Bible as an illustration of old versus new morality. He used the example of the adulterous woman when Jesus saved her from being stoned to death even though the law permitted it. This situation is a clear example of Personalism which Fletcher used to illustrate his theory. Another example that Fletcher identified from the Bible was when Jesus confronted the Pharisees over what the Sabbath Day was intended for. In order to follow strict Jewish law absolutely nothing could be done on this day, often to the detriment of people. Jesus wanted people to follow the spirit in which God had given the law rather than following it and acting immorally in some cases. Whilst Fletcher described agape love as the only intrinsically good thing, William Barclay defined agape love as unconquerable good will; it is the determination to seek the other man s highest good, no matter what he does to ... Banking, Liquidity and Bank Runs Banking, Liquidity and Bank Runs in an In...nite Horizon Economy Mark Gertler and Nobuhiro Kiyotaki NYU and Princeton University May 2012 Abstract We develop a variation of the macroeconomic model of banking in Gertler and Kiyotaki (GK2011) that allows for household liquidity risks and bank runs as in Diamond and Dybvig (DD1983). As in GK, because bank net worth ‡ uctuates with aggregate production, the spread in the expected rates of return on bank credit and deposit ‡ uctuates countercyclically. However, because bank assets have a longer maturity than deposits, bank runs are possible as in DD. As in Gertler and Karadi (2011) and Gertler and Kiyotaki (2011), endogenous procyclical movements in bank balance sheets lead to countercyclical movements in the cost of bank credit. At the same time, due to maturity mismatch, bank runs may be possible, following Diamond and Dybvig (1983). Whether or not a bank run equilibrium exists will depend on two key factors: the condition of bank balance sheets and an endogenously determined liquidation price. Thus, a situation can arise where a bank run cannot occur in normal times, but where a severe recession can open up the possibility. Critical to the possibility of runs is that banks issues demandable short term debt. In our baseline model we simply assume this is the case. We then provide a stronger motivation for this scenario by introducing household liquidity risks, in the spirit of Diamond and Dybvig. Section 2 presents the model, including both a no bank run and a bank run equilibria, along with the extension to the economy with household liquidity risks. Section 3 presents a number of illustrative numerical experiments. We illustrate how bank balance sheet behavior a¤ects the cost of credit in the no bank run equilibrium and how it may open up the possibility of destructive bank run behavior. • 30. The Structure Of Scientific Revolution By Thomas Kuhn Thomas Kuhn s seminal book The Structure of Scientific Revolution was first published in 1962 and in just a little more than half century its influence on science and impact on other fields has been anything but influential. The Structure has even alleviated right up there with the usual suspect, namely the Bible and Freud. Essentially the Structure purpose is to reconstruct the image of science and its development and to deconstruct the received view, which paints the picture of science as stockpiling of facts and progressing linearly, in a cumulative manner and ever marching toward the ultimate truth. Yet, as an alternative view, Kuhn guides the reader to reconsider such misleading image of development of science. The reconstruction of this peculiar image includes the progress through normal science, the process by which interrupted by anomaly and this lead to the invention of new theory and in return brought about new paradigm shift and ultimately leads to scientific revolution. In the meantime, although he does not deny scientific knowledge is cumulative but the radical shift from one dominate theory to another where revolution is at the center destroys such picture of continuity due to two successive theories being incommensurable and incompatible. As a result of this shift, Kuhn argues that a theory choice which may or may not take long period of time achieved not merely through logic and experimentation but what persuades scientists is the external factors or ... • 32. Comparison of Behaviorism and the Humanistic Approach It is said that humanistic psychology was developed upon the limitations of behaviourism. The humanistic approach is often referred to as the third force in psychology coming after psychoanalysis and behaviourism; it is an alternative approach to psychology (Maslow, 1968). It offered a more wholesome approach to psychology at the time in comparison to behaviourism and psychoanalysis. This essay will compare and contrast behaviourism and humanistic psychology; it will focus on their contributions to psychological theory and their applications in the real world. Why don t we make what can be observed the real field of psychology (Watson, 1929). Watson (1878 1958) was born into a poor family in South Carolina. His mother was a religious woman, and his father drank a lot and had multiple affairs (Watson, 1999). Watson himself married twice, having two children in each marriage. He didn t seem to have good relationships with his children it is said that one of the main reasons for this may be because he used his children throughout his research. He studied in the University of Chicago where he later became known as the founder of Behaviourism. He wrote an essay in 1914 titled Psychology as the Behaviourist views it where he stated that behaviourism is an objective experimental branch of natural science (Watson, 1914). Behaviourism is a theory of learning that argues that all behaviours are acquired through conditioning (Carver Scheier, 2012). Behaviourists believe ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Distrigas Corporation Q1. As per the provided information the Gas Utility companies pays a base commodity charge of $.3359 plus a peak usage demand of charge that is $4.63 per Mcf multiplied by the total demand during the maximum take day in the last 12 months which is 240 in this case. The cost per MCF can be derived by the below formula (Commodity Base Charge * Total Demand) + (Peak Usage Demand Charge* High Peak in 1 day* months in year) This will translate into ($ 0.3359*30,700,000 Mcf)+ ($ 4.63*240*12) = $ 23,646,530 By substituting the appropriate values in the formula we arrive at a cost of $ 23,646,530. This cost is then divided by the total demand over 12 months of 30.7 Bcf or 30,700,000 Mcf to arrive at an average cost per Mcf of $ 0.7702 which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the proposal A for Distrigas would cost only $29,376,000, or savings of $252,140. The annual cost of Distrigas policy is $21,172,397.19. Distrigas strategy should be to maximize on its competitive rate and endeavor itself as a cost leader, promising speed delivery, reliability and meeting the right quantity when needed the most, all at most cost efficient rate possible. To be cost efficient it needs to operate economically such as storing the right amount of gas needed. It has to improve on its storage and deliver the gas in the best cost efficient using the right mode of transportation possible. The biggest threat could be when consumers like Boston Gas decide to build their own storage facilities and therefore start sourcing directly from the pipeline gas providers, to be stored for usage during peak season. Q4. Proposal A: Slow Build up Strategy In this proposal infrastructure will be built and machinery and trucks purchased to allow Distrigas to slowly build up inventories at the customer location. This strategy includes building a satellite tank which will serve as a reserve for the gas that is brought in by Alozean. It takes 250 days to build up inventories to satisfy peak demand. This model requires 6 trucks to carry the gas over the 250 day period. Field tanks will need to be built at the customer location in order to hold the gas that will service the peak demand and this will cost $ ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There was a war in the past between the Capitol and the Districts. Since the Capitol won, they hold the Hunger Games in honor of their victory. The story mostly focuses on a specific Hunger Games tribute, Katniss Everdeen, who chose to volunteer for her sister who was originally chosen as tribute. Katniss and District 12 s boy tribute, Peeta, are shipped off to train for the games for a few weeks in order to learn more about how the game is played and how the Capitol actually has a huge hand on who wins depending on their likeability.
