Cain And Abel Research Paper
Abel was killed by his older brother Cain. Genesis 4 shares the adult lives of brothers, Cain and
Abel. Cain and Abel were sons of Adam and Eve; however, Cain became very jealous and
envious of his younger brother, Abel. The motive of Cain s jealousy towards his brother, Abel,
derived from Abel s worship offering being accepted by God, their Creator. Abel s offering to
God was from the yield of the first fruit of his flock. Cain also provided a worship offering to
God. Nonetheless, Cain s presented offering wasn t acceptable. Hence, an envious spirit became
birthed within Cain, and Cain murdered his brother, Abel, because God accepted Abel s worship
offering but didn t accept Cain s offering. God became displeased with Cain and vowed that the
ground would no longer yield its fruit towards Cain. In other words, God is not honored with
murder.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moses died at an old age of 120 years old. When Moses died, he was still quite strong in his
strength and vision. Moses posture was likely still very erect. Indeed his mind was still strong,
and God allowed Moses to see all the land that He would give to the descendants of Abraham.
Moses eyesight was so strong at 120 years old that he could clearly see far into the western sea
and as far as Zoar. God loved Moses so much that He wanted Moses to at least see the Promised
Land even though Moses would not get an opportunity to enter into it. God buried Moses Himself
when he died, but He wouldn t allow anyone to know where Moses burial was located. After
Moses death, the Israelites grieved, wept and mourned for Moses for thirty

How Did The Mongols Use Gunpowder
Gunpowder was invented in Tang China in 850. It was made during experiments that sought to
make elixirs that prolong life . It composed of saltpeter, or potassium nitrate, sulfur, and charcoal
and explodes when a spark from a percussive impact ignites it . The Chinese during the Song
dynasty saw gunpowder s potential. They utilized it in propelling rockets and making explosive
projectiles. The Chinese Bureau of Munitions, by the thirteenth century, had seven factories that
produced 7,000 rockets and 21,000 bombs per day . In 1232, they used thunder crash bombs,
which are early hand grenades, against the Mongols, who attacked Kaifeng, a city in northern
China . Mongols, however, learned the recipe to gunpowder and began using gunpowder based

(Nies McEwen, 2015). The purpose of this paper is to discuss the findings from the windshield
survey completed in Valdosta, Georgia. Direct Data While examining the community of Valdosta,

Most of the doctor offices in Valdosta are located close to the hospital. The city of Valdosta has
multiple types of specialty doctors, such as cardiologist, infectious disease, urologist, and
nephrologist. Furthermore, there are multiple nursing homes in this community. Also, the
community of Valdosta has multiple public schools. Some of the public schools are in the Lowndes
County School System, while others are a part of the Valdosta City School System. The county
schools look like they are kept up better and have less signs of decay than the city schools. In
addition to this community having multiple schools, this community has many different churches
people can attend and on Sundays most of the church parking lots are full. Even though there are
some common themes throughout this community there are some big differences. In the part of the
community close to Moody Airforce base there is mostly new neighborhoods made up of nice
looking houses. When driving through these neighborhoods in the middle of the day young kids
are seen riding bikes without helmets and playing in the middle of the road. Also, many young
adults can be seen walking or running around the neighborhoods. Additionally, there is a railroad

Money Problems with Building the Railroads
In the late 1800, conflicts arose from farmers, workers, and railroad companies. These issues were
resolved by significant battles among them, but never had an affect on the railroads. The railroads
charged an extraordinary amount of money for transportation of products. This made farmers
extremely outraged, and made them use their money more wisely than spend it on the
transportation of their products. The railroad companies misused their money given by the
government to gain profit of off land grants. The competition led to workers going on strike for
their budgets being cut. These concepts show that railroads, in their wasteful competition, exploited
farmers and workers because of budget cuts, transportation of products, and rates.(Introduction,
Timeline) Through the wasteful competition of the railroads, workers began to lose support of
their family and make a living. On page 9, in the text it states, When wages are cut, thousands of
Pullman Palace Car Company workers go on strike in Illinois. In sympathy, other railroad workers
stop Pullman cars from moving. (Timeline) This statement expresses the idea that George Pullman
treated his workers with disrespect. When the great depression occurred, George cut all workers
pay by 25% to make more profit for his company. This shows that he exploited the workers to make
profit. Also, During the railroad competition, George developed the General Manager Association.
This association made him able to fire whoever he wanted,

USA s Copyright Law
Copyright Law
1. Copyright law offers copyright holders the exclusive right to reproduce, distribute, and publicly
perform copyrighted work (Carnes). The copyright holder has the authority to govern how the
copyrighted material is distributed by giving specific permissions in writing. Without a specific
written permission, no one has the rights to distribute or sell the copyrighted work.
By selling collections that contain the whole program of the copyrighted material, Software of the
Month Club (SOMC) is selling the copyrighted material without permission from the copyright
holder, Cybersell Impact, Inc. The claim of endorsing and distributing the shareware as performing
a service for the creators infringes the copyright law because of the distributions of the whole
program. The copyright laws allow a small portion of copyrighted material to be used for socially
beneficial purposes, but not the whole program. And, there was a restriction on the distribution that
allowed the sample portion to be distributed without charge to users. The actual charging of the
software and the fact of the whole program being distributed violated the copyright laws and the
restriction of the copyright holder.
The behavior that is being encouraged by the copyright laws and the judges in this case is to treat
each other fair and with respect. If the copyright holder gives permission, then it is ok to distribute
and sell, depending on what is actually granted in the written permission. By not

Should Companies Invest in Virtual Mentors?
Turbocharge your career by cultivating multiple channels for information flow
Having a mentor has always helped with professional development and career advancement, but
in today s complex workplace, one mentor won t do. To spark innovation and ideapreneurship,
employees often require relevant information on multiple areas of expertise in real time. That s
why there is a need for multiple mentors and expertise from various domains. The good news is
the rapid expansion of social media inside and outside companies has made it possible for aspiring
leaders to hone their craft from the very best experts in many domains via the internet or
Knowledge Management (KM) systems. They can become your virtual mentors.
That is the finding of a study we conducted (financially supported by The SHRM Foundation) of
HCL Technologies (HCL). The India based IT consulting organization, has over 103,696
employees distributed globally across its very own delivery centers and client sites. HCL
encourages them to use the KM and social collaboration system, internally referred to as Ask HCL,
Edna, arKMedes and MeMe, to help each other and share their expertise.
Today, you can follow and interact with experts on Twitter, blog and Q A sites such as Quora and
GitHub. In addition, organizations are investing time and money on social media tools. Knowledge

Positive Impact Of Christopher Columbus Discoveries
Positive Impact of Christopher Columbus Discoveries
The world is a better place because of Christopher Columbus important discoveries in the New
World. His explorations resulted in the vast expansion of property for Europe, the exchange of
goods and cultures between countries and a change in the worldview of geography. Columbus s
explorations were the catalyst for unprecedented trade known as the Columbian Exchange, which
started the exchange of goods and ideas that would last for centuries and change the world forever.
His discoveries unearthed new perspectives and created a mix of diverse biology between Europe
and the New World. These exchanges changed the world we live in today and will continue to fuel
centuries of exploration and discoveries. The Columbian Exchange was the beginning of the
expansion of trade between the New World and Europe. The Columbian Exchange started the flow
of goods between continents that had not shared the same borders since Pangaea. McNeill stated
Columbus voyage, along with the many voyages that followed, disrupted much of the biological
segregation brought about by continental drift. (McNeil, 1). Journalist Charles Mann states in his
research for his book, 1493: Uncovering the New World Columbus Created, on the Columbian
Exchange that No other person, changed the face of the Earth as radically as Columbus did.
Columbus crossing of the Atlantic, Mann says, marked the start of a new age, not only for the

Comparing Bartleby, The Scrivener And The Overcoat
In both Herman Melville s Bartleby, the Scrivener and Nikolai Gogol s The Overcoat, the reader
is given insight about the different workings society has on two copyists. Both, Akaky and
Bartleby make a living off copying papers, and can be considered as the heros of their stories.
Though, both of their mannerisms are out of place and foolish in their given society; the authors
display different settings, character arcs, and motivations to showcase the slow burn psychological
and physical effects society has on the protagonist. Even though Bartleby s passive nature in a
capitalist dominant economy leads him to his death, Akaky stumbling upon materialism in a
classist Russia can be ascertained to have been deadlier than passiveness. The... Show more content

Similarly to Bartleby, in The Overcoat, Akaky Akakievich is a copyist who went about his work
mindlessly. Gogol depicts Akaky as an outlier among his peers, and deemed to be the only clerk
who served his job with love (313). The author portrays Akaky as an aloof fellow, who has no
idea about his surrounding for he is always focused on his writings (Gogol 313). When the
Russian s worst enemy, winter, arrives; his overcoat is too old and broken down to protect him
from the cold weather. His current overcoat is ridiculed and mockingly called a peignoir by his
fellow clerks (Gogol 315). The arc shifts when his tailor, Petrovich, makes him a new overcoat
from cheap material that resembles the ones worn by the rich (Gogol 320). The coat heightens
how Akaky viewed himself, and how his peers view him. However, he is robbed of his coat on
the way home from his Chief Assistant Clerk s party (Gogol 323). In the latter part of his
character arc, he valued the search of his overcoat more than his livelihood. He decides to search
for the overcoat with the help of higher officials. After failed attempts with different people, he
tries his luck with the Very Important Person who put the nail to the coffin in Akaky s life but not

Pablo Neruda didn t use a lot of the literary devices, he used very strong imagery and some
personification with a bit of repetition. One of the examples of imagery when he said the night is
shattered he describes the night as a glass broken into many pieces and the sky was clear as a
piece of glass. Another example of imagery in the same stanza the blue stars shiver in the
distance Pablo Neruda creates imagery in the reader s mind by describing the blue sky that they
are far away. The other literary devices that Neruda used is personification when he said in line 4

Summary Of Horses Of The Night By Margaret Laurence
One s actions are first sparked by their goals and passions, but as they grow, outer forces invade
those thoughts and make them clouded, their passions start to fade and eventually disappear. As
children, we dream about what we want to be when we grow up. We have hope in our eyes, and
nothing can hold us back. As we grow and learn, we are forced into realization of the harsh
realities we live in, making our dreams sink. We must decide if we are going to let these forces
knock us down, and conform to them, or stand strong and not take no for an answer. Margaret
Laurence allows us to follow the development of Chris and how outer forces effect him in the
short story Horses of the Night . When Chris first moves to Manawaka, the new town gives him
hope. Manawaka is different then where he grew up, with new people, and new opportunities to
explore. Chris is still young, going to high school to get an education, and still believes that he can
do anything if he sets his mindto it. Some outer forces try to bring Chris mind into reality, such as
grandfather s reminders of Chris growing up as a poor boy and taking after his father. Chris
never seemed to let these remarks affect him, He would not argue or defend himself... He simply
appeared to be absent, elsewhere. This is how Chris dealt with reality, ignoring it completely, and
instead focused on his own world, the world he preferred. These forces that his grandfather put on
him seem to have little effect on Chris. His

Human Trafficking In America
Slavery is when persons are owned and controlled by other persons, and they have little to no
freedom. In Eastern Europe slavery ended in 1528, but human trafficking has been going on for
thousands of years. A few decrees did not stop the horrible crime called human trafficking. By
definition human trafficking is modern day slavery; people that are victims are imprisoned and

My Internship Analysis
This summer I had the chance to take on a great challenge. I completed 120 hours for my
internship while at the same time working as fulltime employee. I truly mean it when I say it
was a great challenge. In only 2 months I completed 120 hours in an office that was only open 8
5 Monday through Friday. I know it may seem reasonable to others and you might even ask why
that would be something so difficult for me to do but it was very tough. You see, I work my
total of 40 hours a week at my current job and to add more hours to my schedule seemed pretty
exhausting. Unfortunately, I am not as privileged as other to have an amazing schedule like 8 to 5

I not only learned about the procedures for child support but I also learned things that will help
in any career that I decide to get into. I learned about proper communication skills. During my
time at the office I watched how communication was very important. Our communication skills
can help in many things and one major thing is to calm a person down, express compassion, give
assurance. I witnessed several clients going into the offices very bothered and frustrated with
their cases or some would even come in sad and disappointed but the office staff knew how to
communicate properly with them and assure them of any concerns they had. Another thing I
learned is multi tasking. The office was all about multi tasking and doing things fast. I realized
that I need to work on my typing in order to type faster. Since I am interested in office work I do
need to type faster than I do now. Regarding multi tasking, I had to document, file, and place in
order all the paperwork for files that needed to be ready for court. I had to have over 4 programs
open on my desktop to look for photos and files that needed to be printed and also programs
where I had to notate what changes were done to the case or the latest update on the file. I also
learned to proper documentation and filing. I had to constantly document any changes I made to
each file. Each documentation was detailed and had to have a date the change was made, what was
the change, and who made the change. I also learned the importance of confidentiality. During my
time at the office they were very clear on how confidentiality is their number one priority. Due to
keeping everything confidential, it was a major rule at the office that anyone who stood and left
their office station must lock their computers. All documents that were printed out by mistake or

School Counselor Reflection
As a future school counselor, I can reflect that these past eight weeks, I have a full understanding
of the roles and responsibilities of a school counselor in a traditional high school. Practicum 2 has
been learning experiences that I will remember as I start my new profession. I believe that being
exposed and actively involved with a group of school counselors brought a wide range of
knowledge that I plan to utilize in the future. As a continuum from my Practicum 1, the following
CACREP standards are mentioned below.
Counseling Helping Relationships Serving students with different backgrounds, personalities, or
beliefs may not be the easiest thing to do, as their thought process may differ. Therefore, it is
essential for school counselors to find healthy ways to build on a school counselor student

have, that helps them maintain a relationship with their students. Students can be more willing to
open up their thoughts or accept suggestions when the school counselor is a good listener. A lot
of the times, we can think that we have to do all the talking, but is necessary to step back and
listen at the students first. Also, school counselors must be friendly and easy to approach. Students
can feel more comfortable with individuals they like and accept. In addition, it is essential for all

that I will finish it one day and so far I have been finishing them.

never enough time away from Jules Jacobson. I love the plot. I really wish I could go on so I can

still behaving in a way that I just couldn t stand.
I saw this book on Goodreads. It seemed interesting, I got the free sample on my kindle, I loved
it. The next morning I went to the library first thing, excited to read more, by the time of the

to get it read, I found the audiobook on Scribd. I put that on. I made it all the way to half way
through chapter 11, which is about half way. I couldn t stand it a moment longer.

They Call Him Mr. Gacy Essay
There are numerous portraits, perspectives, and analyses of the life and deeds of American serial
killer John Wayne Gacy, who is thought to have sexually assaulted and murdered 32 boys

Fearing the loss of his job, Westphal fulfilled John?s desires. After this incident rumors of John?s

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Vulnerability
Vulnerabilities in a system are weaknesses present in the system or lack of a counter measure
which has been placed to secure the system from exploitation and attack. The weakness of the
countermeasure could be related to hardware or software. Any procedural or human weakness can
also be exploited to threat the network setup. Basically a threat agent gives rise to a threat, which in
turn exploits the vulnerability that gives to a risk. Therefore it is important to safeguard the system

The Grimm Brothers Fairy Tales
Everything from music, to movies, and fairytales has been influenced by society. More
specifically, society has influenced the Grimm Brothers fairy tales. The Grimm Brothers fairy
tales would be considered dark and gruesome by today s standards. Parents would not allow their
own children near the stories, which caused society to give the tales a more PG feeling. The
tales changed and became what we know them as today. Disney has played a major role in
creating the innocent versions that today s early generations have experienced. While they rarely
admit it, societies, such as Disney, caused the original works of the Grimm Brothers to be
overshadowed by their infantile adaptations. Most of you have probably heard of the Grimm
brothers, and if you haven t heard of them, you have most likely seen their work. Disney movies
like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Cinderellaare child friendly versions of the Grimm
brothers original fairy tales. Ironically, the brothers had no intention on becoming story tellers,
when first starting their journey. The book The Annotated Brothers Grimmstated, that when trying
to study other languages they found it easiest and best to share stories that had been passed down
generation to generation. The brothers kept all the stories they had heard and published a book in
1812 called Kinder und Hausmarchen, which translates to Tales of Children and thee Home .
Believe it or not, fairy tales were not always about finding true love, and having a

Roth IRA Research Paper
The, best known as IRAs for its acronym in English (Individual Retirement Accounts), individual
retirement accounts are a good option to consider when planning for retirement, since these are
savings accounts with attractive tax advantages. These accounts are recommended if your
employer does not offer any retirement plan like a 401 (k), or if you want to have an additional
plan to save more for your retirement.
IRAs can be opened at any bank or brokerage firm, either in person or online. The opening
process is very simple and only requires to have on hand your social security number and
beneficiaries, as well as your basic personal information.
There are several types of IRAs, but the most used are the traditional IRA and the Roth IRA. ...

The Personal Plan Of Action
Personal Plan of Action
According to Eric Sheninger, effective principals are instructional leaders, create a positive school
climate, employ quality teachers, are organized, has great communication skills, and has a sense of
professionalism. Many of these qualities are traits that I feel I have and are continually being
strengthened by the knowledge I acquire through my graduate courses and the role as FCIM
facilitator. I hope that through hard work and diligence I will receive an assistant principal
appointment in the next two years, and ultimately a principalship in the next five years.
As a principal, I will be a curriculum leader on my campuses, especially classroom instruction. I
will spend a high percent of my time walking the hallways, devoting the majority of my efforts to
evaluate, and coaching and supporting my teachers in doing their job. I will serve as an expert in
curriculum and exercise my expertise by providing professional development, providing specific
feedback, and modeling lesson in the classrooms. I believe I have a strong background in
curriculum, and I will continue professionally developing my curriculum knowledge, ultimately
making me a great instructional leader.
Teachers are the single most important school level factor in students learning (Johnson, 2012).
Teachers are morally obligated to enter the classroom with only the highest of expectations for each

The Purpose Of An OSI Model
What is the purpose of an OSI model? The purpose of an OSI model is a standard that was created
for networks to share information. This standard governs the way information is transmitted over
different networks. The model also sets guidelines to those in the manufacturing industry that create
and develop software and hardware that are all compatible with each other.
This paper will discuss and describe the 7 layers of the Open System Interconnection model (OSI
model) and the layers of the Transport Control Protocol/Internet Protocol model (TCP/IP model),
and explain the similarities and differences of each model.
The 7 layers of the OSI model consist of: The Application layer (layer 7), The Presentation layer
(layer 6), The Session ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Transport layer
Transport layers exist in both TCP/IP and OSI model. Even though both models have Transport
layers they differ. The TCP/IP model consist of two standard transport protocols: Transmission
Control Protocol (TCP) and User Datagram Protocol (UDP). TCP uses a reliable data stream
protocol which is connected oriented and UDP uses a unreliable data stream protocol which is
connectionless oriented.
The Internet layer
The Internet layer is a group of protocols and specifications that are used to transport packets from
the host across a network, the host specified by a network address (IP address)
The Link layer
The lower level layer of the TCP/IP model, this layer is used by a suite of protocols for the Internet
. This is used to connect hosts or nodes to a network. This layer is compared to the Data Link
layer and Physical layer of the OSI model.
TCP/IP Application Layer VS OSI Application, Presentation and Session layer.
The similarities in both models are comparable but different at the same time. All though they
exist in both, the approach each uses to construct applications is different. In the OSI model the
Application layer, Presentation layer and Session layer correspond to the Application layer of the
TCP/IP model. They somewhat do the same job but use different protocols, TCP/IP uses: FTP,
SMTP, TELNET, DNS and SNMP where the OSI model uses: FTAM, VT, MHS,

The Respectable and Noble Actions of Gimpel Illustrated in...
Gimpel the Fool , by Isaac Bashevis Singer, tells the tale of a Jewish baker living in the
traditional Jewish village of Frampol. Raised an orphan, Gimpel never had anyone to stop him
when others were leading him into being fooled. As he grew up, his gullibility earned him the title
the Fool , and the entire village of Frampol referred to him as such. But was he truly the fool
everyone made him up to be? In his youth, Gimpel was picked on and made fun of for being
easily fooled. Gimpel, however, was rarely unaware of his peers intent. Gimpel simply preferred to
avoid confrontation and simply let them take advantage of [him] (96). This purposeful show of

Some may think Gimpel foolish for kissing the wall, however, there is no harm in kissing it

Wal-Mart’s Response to Hurricane Katrina
Wal Mart s Response to Hurricane Katrina
So far in the American history, hurricane Katrina remains to be one of the most devastating
hurricanes to have ever been witnessed. Though preparation were already in place to counter its
effects, the storm s impact turned out to be one of the most unprecedented ever seen. This is even
notable from the way government agencies reacted to this disaster. It brought out the inefficiencies
and inadequacies of the emergency units both at the federal and state level. This is because these
governments response standards to this disaster were far much below the threshold expected.
Government efforts could not match, and hence counter, the impacts of hurricane Katrina. This led

This is possible because Wal Mart is expansive and has a global influence. This helps it to have lots
of information concerning anything of importance to them and their clients. Therefore using its
emergency department, Wal Mart was able to monitor the storm as it approached the shores of the
Gulf coast using their highly computerized meteorological equipment. In addition to the storm
monitoring capabilities, this department is well equipped with emergency response facilities for
normal disasters.
Wal Mart began response to this hurricane when the meteorological equipment indicated that the
initial signs of a storm were building up to a hurricane. This was when top level management began
having special interest on the findings of the emergency operations centre whereby the then
company s business continuity director shifted his operations to the centre. This was a clear sign of
how well Wal Mart chain stores were getting prepared for this hurricane.
Wal Mart CEO, H. Lee Scott, Jr., was in the forefront into getting ready to counter the impact of
Katrina. This is proven by the aspect of him giving direct authority to junior managers to make
sound decisions on the way forward into dealing with the hurricane. This simplified decision
making chain process and thus it saw the response become much quicker. Apart from giving
deciding powers to his juniors, the CEO guided the response process on a daily basis plan. This

from history.com describes the Columbine incident by Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris. They killed
twelve students and a teacher with semiautomatic guns. Then when the SWAT team arrived at the
school at around 3:00 PM, the dead bodies of the gunmen were found in the school. The gunmen
committed suicide at around noon and twenty three injured students were evacuated out of the
school and into the hospital. Following the incident, an investigation was done on the motives of
the shooters. It was suspected that the gunmen primarily targeted athletes, minorities and
Christians. It was reported that a student Cassie Bernall was shot to death because she said she
believed in god when asked by one of the gunmen. However, it was later determined that the
shooters randomly chose their targets and had intended on bombing the cafeteria to potentially take
hundreds of lives. Thankfully, the bombs never went off. It was discovered the Klebold and Harris

The Glasgow Science Centre Tower Project Case Study Essay
Introduction
The Glasgow Science Centre project was conceived as a way of promoting Glasgow as a major
high tech center, as well as a means of revitalizing the River Clyde dock area of Glasgow,
Scotland, UK. The Science Centre consists of three main exhibits: the IMAX Theatre, the
Science Mall, and the Glasgow Tower. The stunning design of the Glasgow Science Centre
Tower was envisioned as a one of a kind structure capable of revolving 360В° from the ground up
and was expected to become a famous landmark. The unique design of the Glasgow Tower was
envisioned to feature a viewing cabin on top of a reed slim tower 330 feet above the River Clyde.

Although the project team made an attempt to manage risk by performing risk analysis from early
out, there was no attempt of managing the risk from a strategic perspective. For example,
normally towers are built up to 6 or 7 times the width of the base, but this tower was designed to be
10 times taller. This created a major technical challenge.

Crime Against Humanity
A crime against humanity is widespread or systematic attacks against a civilian population. Crimes
against humanity is a problem that has repeated itself through history and is still occurring in the
present world today. How countries, that are in a place of power, should or should not respond to
these crimes is a controversial issue that numerous people differ on opinion. Some argue that
nations should act according to their own national interest and do what is best for their country,
including not doing anything at all. Other s have a belief in which countries that are in a place to
intervene should do so. This could be with a forceful militaristic approach. Any crime against
humanity should not be tolerated in this view. Another opinion is that in crisis situations, a
collective effort by an international community, such as the United Nations, should be the people
who respond and resolve the conflict. This takes out individualizing countries, and creates an
international effort. Over the course of history many diverse actions have been taken in response to
a crime against humanity. Some examples as to why an international community or a country
should intervene with full force and right away are through the Ukraine Famine, the Rwandan
Genocide, and the Armenian Genocide.
What is known as the Ukraine Famine was a crisis in which no outside force responded to help the
Ukrainians. When Stalin rose to power as the leader of the Soviet Union, one of his first actions was

Defining Characteristics Of The New Zealand Constitution
Public Law: Defining Characteristics of the New Zealand Constitution

A constitution revolves around public power. It is the body of law that creates and regulates the
application of the powers . The nature and application of these powers are the one of the most
fundamental components of an evolved society. NZ has a number of unique and defining
characteristics to its constitution, the origins of these powers and their application have far reaching
consequences for the people of New Zealand. Perhaps the most principled featured of our legal
system is the concept of parliamentary sovereignty. There are a number of constitutional

This incremental change is vital to ensure the constitutional law is developing alongside the ever
changing societal and political view. It also ensures democratic legitimacy as the power is placed in
the hands of the democratically elected parliament, rather than the with the judicial discretion of the
courts . This a key identifying feature that has far reaching practical consequences in New Zealand
society. Despite the checks and balances on parliamentary power that the unwritten constitution
itself provides. The concept of parliamentary sovereignty carries with it an inherent ability to abuse
power. The AG v Ngati Apa decision is a prime example where a tyrannical government can in
essence alienate the rights of minority citizen groups. The fundamental legal principles that
underpin our unwritten constitution have led to some questioning as to the extension of these
parliamentary powers, Cooke s judgement in Taylor v NZ Poultry Board being a prime indicator of
this. The unwritten nature of New Zealand s constitution is a unique and defining characteristic of
our constitution, its fundamental principles are weaved throughout parliaments application of its
power.
Another constitutional feature with heavy influence on parliamentary sovereignty is the concept of
legally entrenched provisions. The concept of entrenched provisions hold value for its democratic
stability, fundamental rights protection and its

The Greensburg Tornado Essay
On May 4, 2007, the town of Greensburg, Kansas was devastated by an exceptionally strong
tornado. With maximum winds estimated to be in excess of 205 miles per hour, and leaving a
damage path as wide as 1.7 miles, the storm would go on to be rated a rare EF5, the first recorded

violent supercell had spawned a funnel just southwest of Greensburg at 9:20 p.m. By 9:38 p.m., the

observed rotating around the main vortex. At 9:41 p.m., the National Weather Service station
located in Dodge City, Kan. issued an emergency statement for the town of Greensburg, indicating
the extreme peril of the situation.
Shortly after the emergency statement was issued, the storm entered the town near its peak
strength. The twister stayed on the ground for a total of 22 miles, passing entirely through
Greensburg and leaving 95 percent of the city destroyed, with the remaining five percent

Essay on Severe Air Pollution in China
After many years of ignoring the air pollution, smog ridden China has finally begun to
take this issue more seriously. They are the worst country in the world when it comes to air
pollution due to their huge population and large demand of manufactured goods (AFOP). This
however is no excuse for what they do to the environment. This is a very important issue because
of how much environmental damage can be prevented as well as setting an example of pollution
reduction across the world. They must take this issue very seriously because air quality has

As of now China is promoting green energy to help cut back the use of
fossil fuels, but this is a slow change and they are also reducing iron production (Barbara

keep up with China s energy needs. These changes will be very helpful towards this crucial issue
and though it may take time will eventually have a significant impact on reduction of air
pollution in China.
Another crucial step to reducing air pollution is changing energy habits. This goes hand in
hand with reducing air pollution. If China is to permanently change their horrible air pollution
they must not only reduce air pollution, but also switch to more effective energy sources. There
are many types of clean energy sources such as: solar, wind, and hydroelectric. These energy
sources are infinite, unlike coal and oil, which will eventually run out. As well as being more
plentiful they also leave no pollution behind (NRDC). Though not all of China s needs can be
filled by green or renewable energy but any little bit helps. Since China is so large the more
clean energy we use, the less air pollution being put out. This not only effects China, but the
whole world because they re pollution is contributing to global warming as other global issues.
With continued improvements China plans to have 13% clean energy by 2017 (Barbara
Finamore). This is a huge step towards reducing air pollution

Gender Stereotypes In Aladdin
The aim of this essay is to investigate the race, sexuality and gender stereotyping that is expressed
through the Disney film Aladdin and how these elements affect the characters. These elements will
be represented within the characters personality and back story which is then visually represented
in the characters design.
In this Disney film there is a great importance to know the history in the world during the time that
this film was established. The history during 1991 is shown through the characters. The filmmakers
established Aladdin in 1991 Gulf War that lasted six months. Conflict was present between Iraq and

The way in which Disney films help maintain a respectable name for the hero is through justifying

his actions of thievery. The reasoning behind his actions help to reduce his Arabic decent and the

Considerations and Warnings
Your mouth guard can be constructed for either your lower or upper teeth.
Teeth grinding can cause you wake up with a headache, besides jaw pain.
A custom made mouth guard should fit comfortably and snug. What s more, it should have a stable
arc and not rock back and forth.
If you have dental bridge work or wear braces, it s particularly critical that your mouth guard fits
properly. This because your mouth guard can give you a protective barrier between your lips, or
cheek, if you suffer from a blow to your face.
Mouth guards should be regularly cleaned, using soapy, cool water after they re used.
Take your mouth guard to every dental appointment so that it can be examined for defects. Also,
inspect your guard, consistently, at home, checking for wear and tear, such as holes. For any

Airlines in 1986. Jet America Airlines was merged into Alaska Airlines
in 1987. In December 2016,

Alaska Airlines History For over 75 years, Alaska Airlines has been guided by honesty,
compassion, originality, proficiency, and a distinctive spirit. Alaska Airlines started in 1932 as
McGee Airways by Linious Mac McGee. He painted McGee Airways on a three passenger
Stinson and began flying out of Anchorage, Alaska. In 1934, McGee combined with Star Air
Service, with 22 aircraft, they became the largest airline in Alaska. In 1937, business expanded
again with the acquiring of Alaska Interior Airlines. Later that year, McGee sold Star to one of his
former pilots, Don Goodman, who renamed the company Star Air Lines. In 1938, the Civil
Aeronautics Authority (CAA) was created to regulate airlines. In 1944, Star Air Lines changed its
name to Alaska Airlines. The company grew despite a shortage of workers during the war and cash

Input Rate and Demand Rate Process Capacity
Throughput =Min {Process Capacity}
It is evident from the process flowchart that the capacity of the drying unit is minimum at 450 and
maximum at 600 bbls/hr. However, this does not apply to dry berries.
Both dry and wet berries go through the separation process with a capacity of 1200 bbls/hr. Since
70% of the berries are wet, the capacity for separation is recalculated as
Separation capacity for wet berries = 70% of 1200 bbls/hr = 840 bbls/hr
Separation capacity for dry berries = 30% of 1200 bbls/hr = 360 bbls/hr
Since the output from the dryer unit for wet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Arrival rate of berries = 1500 bbls/hr
Start time for processing is 11 AM.
Arrival time of berries = 7 AM.
Time for storage in the dumper and bins = 4 hours
Total number of berries = 1500*4 = 6000 bbls
Total number of wet berries = 70% of 6000 = 4200 bbls
Total number of dry berries = 30% of 6000 = 1800 bbls
Capacity for storage of Dry berries in bins = 3200 bbls
Arrival rate for dry berries = 30% of 1500 bbls/hr = 450 bbls/hr
Bottleneck for dry berries is Separation at 600 bbls/hr which is greater than arrival rate.
Excess berries in bins start getting processed at (600 450) =150 bbls/hr
Arrival of berries stops at 7 PM.
Excess dry berries remaining after 7 PM = 1800 8*150 = 600 bbls.

An Analysis of Beethoven Pathetique Sonata
An application of Analysis of Beethoven s Pathetique piano sonata No. 8 inC minor, Op.13 with
particular focus on musical features such as melody, thematic content, rhythm, form and structure,
and harmony.
Bent states that analysis is the means of answering the question, how does it work? According to
Bent, analysis is a relatively young discipline analysis as a pursuit in its own right became
established during the 19th century (Bent, 2006, p.13), although basic methods of analysis of music
has been suggested to date back to the eighteenth century and have become a seductively
compelling and important topic for music scholars over the last fifty years, and as a result, an

8 in C minor, Op. 13 composed in 1798 focussing on musical features such as melody, thematic
content, rhythm, form and structure and harmony. This sonata has been chosen for analysis as it is
the most popular Beethoven sonata within the performance circuit, as it is a well known piece
worldwide. Secondly, Beethoven developed Sonata form, adding more thematic contrast and
contrasting melodies reflecting his own personal struggles with his progressive loss of hearing and
also his failures in his love life which all contributed to the passion and despair that is depicted
within the sonatas during his second compositional stage in his career.
Firstly, I will discuss the methods used in order to analyse the Form and Structure of the piece.
The emphasis in analysis was often given to the form and structure of the piece, especially during
the nineteenth century as this allows performers to gain knowledge more directly regarding the
overall style of the piece. The sonata is composed in Sonata form and is separated into three
movements, firstly the Grave Allegro di molto e con brio movement, followed by the Adagio
Cantabile middle movement and finally the Rondo Allegro movement. There are different
meanings to the word structure in music, the first is to do with locating the different movements or
the different sections of the piece and the second is to look at how the piece has been put

Are we going to prepare kids for their future, or our past? If we aren t using technology, we aren t

Many kids develop back problems at an early age from carrying heavy textbooks(Tablets).
Electronic devices weigh much lighter than textbooks making it a more suitable option for kids

Electronic devices are much cheaper to obtain and can provide information that is up to date (Kay).
Electronic devices offer video, audio, and several other features that simply cannot be found in

are able to provide visual features the students can use to learn(Thakkar). You can just see a

Innate Sexual Identity
I believe people are born with an innate sexual identity that they can not change. I base this belief
on books and articles of scientific research that I have read over the years. However, I believe
many individuals lie to themselves and/or to others about their sexual identity due to social
pressures.
I believe that many parents who disrespect homosexuals, bisexuals, and transgendered people
openly in front of their children may trigger the children into repressing their sexual identities. As
an example, if a homosexual child were born into a family who does not approve of homosexuality
he or she may be inclined to pretend to be heterosexual. I believe many individuals even get
married and have children with opposite sex partners, while denying

Pros And Cons Of Term Limits
I really hate when others take my right to decide when my elected representatives can no longer
represent me. Term limits take that choice away from voters. We already have term limits, it s
called a ballot. The majority of voters either really like the person representing them or are too
lazy to exercise that very powerful means of limiting how long someone represents them. With all
the support many voters give to term limits, it is simply a sign that voters don t want to be bothered
with votingresponsibly. This type of voter would rather a law be passed to take over that
responsibility.
So, what would happen if a law was created limiting terms and voters really liked a person
representing them? Well, you d be out of luck. People need to

Freedom In America
The United States of America is and has always been very close to realizing democracy s ideal
of a country where there is liberty and justice for all , though a number of factors have conspired
to move the country away from them in the past, and threaten to do so in our immediate future.
Though their outcomes have varied considerably over the years, the main factors causing the U.S
to stray from its ideals of freedom and equality have always been one or both of the following
factors discrimination and war. These factors are perennial, affecting every nation that has ever
existed and probably every nation that will exist, and our nation s reaction to them has been on par
with that of every other nation in a similar position. From... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

One such factor is war. During World War I, the Espionage Act of 1917 was used to jail
prominent critics of American intervention in the war among them, Eugene V. Debs, four time
presidential candidate (Ball, 146). Shortly after the war ended, A. Mitchell Palmer used the
powers granted by the act to conduct mass arrests and deportation of hundreds of foreign
residents (Emert, 54, 55, 56). During World War II, the federal government forcibly relocated
thousands of Japanese Americans into what were essentially concentration camps (Cooper, 10,
11). The Japanese internment was implemented in the name of combating a virtually non
existent military threat, for fear that Americans of Japanese descent might aid the Empire of
Japan (Cooper, 63). After the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center in New York and
the Pentagon and the declaration of the War on Terror, the USA PATRIOT Act was hurriedly
conceived and passed into law (Ball, 38). Included in the law were provisions for roving wiretaps,
the sharing of information between criminal probes and intelligence agencies and secret searches
of private property in violation of the Constitution (Ball, 57, 74, 81). War has always been a major
contributor to the detriment of civil liberties in all nations, and

Class Structure In The Great Gatsby
In society, classes arrange themselves mainly into two different groups: upper class and lower
class. These classes were divided primarily based on how much money one makes, or inherits.
Class structure plays a major role in a novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald: The Great Gatsby,
which took place in the 1920 s. The character Jay Gatsbyattempted to remake the past by altering
his identity and accumulating riches to win over his lost love Daisy, who married Tom, another
rich man. The narrator Nick, who was cynical, connected with all the main characters, and had the
ability to see the good in Gatsby. Fitzgerald disapproved of the upper class so he critiqued it
through his literature as seen Nick s views of East Egg, the description of the... Show more content

Firstly, Fitzgerald attacked the rich. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald presented two distinct types of
wealthy people. First, there were people like the Buchanans and Jordan Baker who were born
into wealth. Their families have had money for many generations. As portrayed in the novel, the
old money people do not have to work, and they spend their time amusing themselves with
whatever they please. Daisy, Tom, Jordan, and the distinct social class they represent were
perhaps the story s most elitist group, imposing distinctions on the other people of wealth (like
Gatsby) based not so much on how much money one had, but where that money came from and
when it was acquired. For the old money people, the fact that Gatsby had only recently acquired
his money was reason enough to dislike him. In their way of thinking, he cannot possibly have
the same refinement, sensibility, and taste they have. Not only did he work for a living, but also
he came from a low class background, which in their opinion, meant he could not possibly be like
them. The East Eggers were judgmental and superficial, failing to look at the essence of the people
around them. Instead, they live their lives in such a way as to perpetuate their sense of superiority
however unrealistic that may be. The people with newly acquired wealth, though,

Lenin s Legacy
Throughout the 1800s and into the 1900s the industrial revolution s unparalleled level of change
pushed the world into a new era. While change occurred throughout this time, the most radical was
the implementation of Communist ideology in Tsarist Russia. In a series of revolutions, Vladimir
Lenin seized power for the Bolsheviks, establishing the world s first Communist based government.
Lenin found himself in the predicament of building a state which would wither away, something
Marx claimed would happen naturally. However, this had never been attempted before, and quickly
Lenin found himself in a series of trial and error tests. Lenin s untimely death brought about more
immense changes, as a power struggle to assume control over his legacy... Show more content on

Lenin s revolution placed himself suddenly in a situation which Marx had never written from.
The revolution occurred, Bolsheviks had seized power, and suddenly a state would have to be
developed that would wither away while at the same time facing a civil crisis; a task deemed
near impossible (Lecture, Hoston March 7th). Lenin s own arguments prior to this held a much
more anarchical view, advocating for the abolition of the army, of long term bureaucracy, and of
the police force (State and Revolution 339). These calls would not be what went into effect in the
end. It is here we see the first of the many major departures from Lenin s original theory which
began to address the reality Russia was in. Lenin had realized that a state had to be strong at some
point, even if marching towards communism as Communism, makes the state absolutely
unnecessary, for there is nobody to be oppressed (State and Revolution 375). At the point Lenin was
in power, the communists still had those they needed to

International Widgets Code Of Ethics
Ethics is a term that many people does not understand because there is no set code of ethics that
everyone must follow. There is not a one size fits all (Pasztor, 2015) when it comes to ethics. A
code of ethics determines how employees should act while working for the company. Each
company has their own code of ethicsthat they expect ALL their employees to follow. The
employee is supposed to show action that is for the best interest of the employer and clients above
their own interests. In John Anderson s case, he did not follow this, which, resulted in violating the
code of ethics. International Widgets Code of Ethics has eight different rules to follow:

Grizzly Bears
Black bears in BC have a population that is 9 times that of the grizzlies, however, the results show
that the grizzlies have inflicted 9.7 times more attacks on humans in the past 16 years. This goes to
show that grizzly bears have a higher tendency to attack due to the natural factors and stresses that
act on them cause them to be much more aggressive with less tolerance to threats (Herrero, Aspects
of Evolution and Adaptation in American Black Bears(Ursus americanus Pallas) and Brown and
Grizzly Bears (U. arctos Linne.) of North America n.d.). Many other papers such as Herrero s

high number of unknown genders in the dataset. Black bear attacks occurred mostly in well

  • 2. Cain And Abel Research Paper Abel was killed by his older brother Cain. Genesis 4 shares the adult lives of brothers, Cain and Abel. Cain and Abel were sons of Adam and Eve; however, Cain became very jealous and envious of his younger brother, Abel. The motive of Cain s jealousy towards his brother, Abel, derived from Abel s worship offering being accepted by God, their Creator. Abel s offering to God was from the yield of the first fruit of his flock. Cain also provided a worship offering to God. Nonetheless, Cain s presented offering wasn t acceptable. Hence, an envious spirit became birthed within Cain, and Cain murdered his brother, Abel, because God accepted Abel s worship offering but didn t accept Cain s offering. God became displeased with Cain and vowed that the ground would no longer yield its fruit towards Cain. In other words, God is not honored with murder.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Money Problems with Building the Railroads In the late 1800, conflicts arose from farmers, workers, and railroad companies. These issues were resolved by significant battles among them, but never had an affect on the railroads. The railroads charged an extraordinary amount of money for transportation of products. This made farmers extremely outraged, and made them use their money more wisely than spend it on the transportation of their products. The railroad companies misused their money given by the government to gain profit of off land grants. The competition led to workers going on strike for their budgets being cut. These concepts show that railroads, in their wasteful competition, exploited farmers and workers because of budget cuts, transportation of products, and rates.(Introduction, Timeline) Through the wasteful competition of the railroads, workers began to lose support of their family and make a living. On page 9, in the text it states, When wages are cut, thousands of Pullman Palace Car Company workers go on strike in Illinois. In sympathy, other railroad workers stop Pullman cars from moving. (Timeline) This statement expresses the idea that George Pullman treated his workers with disrespect. When the great depression occurred, George cut all workers pay by 25% to make more profit for his company. This shows that he exploited the workers to make profit. Also, During the railroad competition, George developed the General Manager Association. This association made him able to fire whoever he wanted, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. USA s Copyright Law Copyright Law 1. Copyright law offers copyright holders the exclusive right to reproduce, distribute, and publicly perform copyrighted work (Carnes). The copyright holder has the authority to govern how the copyrighted material is distributed by giving specific permissions in writing. Without a specific written permission, no one has the rights to distribute or sell the copyrighted work. By selling collections that contain the whole program of the copyrighted material, Software of the Month Club (SOMC) is selling the copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder, Cybersell Impact, Inc. The claim of endorsing and distributing the shareware as performing a service for the creators infringes the copyright law because of the distributions of the whole program. The copyright laws allow a small portion of copyrighted material to be used for socially beneficial purposes, but not the whole program. And, there was a restriction on the distribution that allowed the sample portion to be distributed without charge to users. The actual charging of the software and the fact of the whole program being distributed violated the copyright laws and the restriction of the copyright holder. The behavior that is being encouraged by the copyright laws and the judges in this case is to treat each other fair and with respect. If the copyright holder gives permission, then it is ok to distribute and sell, depending on what is actually granted in the written permission. By not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both, Akaky and Bartleby make a living off copying papers, and can be considered as the heros of their stories. Though, both of their mannerisms are out of place and foolish in their given society; the authors display different settings, character arcs, and motivations to showcase the slow burn psychological and physical effects society has on the protagonist. The author portrays Akaky as an aloof fellow, who has no idea about his surrounding for he is always focused on his writings (Gogol 313). When the Russian s worst enemy, winter, arrives; his overcoat is too old and broken down to protect him from the cold weather. His current overcoat is ridiculed and mockingly called a peignoir by his fellow clerks (Gogol 315). In the latter part of his character arc, he valued the search of his overcoat more than his livelihood. He decides to search for the overcoat with the help of higher officials. After failed attempts with different people, he tries his luck with the Very Important Person who put the nail to the coffin in Akaky s life but not his arc(Gogol 324) . • 12. Summary Of Horses Of The Night By Margaret Laurence One s actions are first sparked by their goals and passions, but as they grow, outer forces invade those thoughts and make them clouded, their passions start to fade and eventually disappear. As children, we dream about what we want to be when we grow up. We have hope in our eyes, and nothing can hold us back. As we grow and learn, we are forced into realization of the harsh realities we live in, making our dreams sink. We must decide if we are going to let these forces knock us down, and conform to them, or stand strong and not take no for an answer. Margaret Laurence allows us to follow the development of Chris and how outer forces effect him in the short story Horses of the Night . When Chris first moves to Manawaka, the new town gives him hope. Manawaka is different then where he grew up, with new people, and new opportunities to explore. Chris is still young, going to high school to get an education, and still believes that he can do anything if he sets his mindto it. Some outer forces try to bring Chris mind into reality, such as grandfather s reminders of Chris growing up as a poor boy and taking after his father. Chris never seemed to let these remarks affect him, He would not argue or defend himself... He simply appeared to be absent, elsewhere. This is how Chris dealt with reality, ignoring it completely, and instead focused on his own world, the world he preferred. These forces that his grandfather put on him seem to have little effect on Chris. His ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Our communication skills can help in many things and one major thing is to calm a person down, express compassion, give assurance. I witnessed several clients going into the offices very bothered and frustrated with their cases or some would even come in sad and disappointed but the office staff knew how to communicate properly with them and assure them of any concerns they had. Another thing I learned is multi tasking. The office was all about multi tasking and doing things fast. I realized that I need to work on my typing in order to type faster. Since I am interested in office work I do need to type faster than I do now. Regarding multi tasking, I had to document, file, and place in order all the paperwork for files that needed to be ready for court. I had to have over 4 programs open on my desktop to look for photos and files that needed to be printed and also programs where I had to notate what changes were done to the case or the latest update on the file. I also learned to proper documentation and filing. I had to constantly document any changes I made to each file. Each documentation was detailed and had to have a date the change was made, what was the change, and who made the change. I also learned the importance of confidentiality. During my time at the office they were very clear on how confidentiality is their number one priority. Due to keeping everything confidential, it was a major rule at the office that anyone who stood and left their office station must lock their computers. Counseling Helping Relationships Serving students with different backgrounds, personalities, or beliefs may not be the easiest thing to do, as their thought process may differ. Therefore, it is essential for school counselors to find healthy ways to build on a school counselor student relationship. There are several characteristics or behaviors that I feel school counselors should have, that helps them maintain a relationship with their students. Students can be more willing to open up their thoughts or accept suggestions when the school counselor is a good listener. A lot of the times, we can think that we have to do all the talking, but is necessary to step back and listen at the students first. Also, school counselors must be friendly and easy to approach. Students can feel more comfortable with individuals they like and accept. In addition, it is essential for all school counselors to appreciate diversity. It is important for school counselors to ... • 36. Essay on Severe Air Pollution in China After many years of ignoring the air pollution, smog ridden China has finally begun to take this issue more seriously. They are the worst country in the world when it comes to air pollution due to their huge population and large demand of manufactured goods (AFOP). This however is no excuse for what they do to the environment. This is a very important issue because of how much environmental damage can be prevented as well as setting an example of pollution reduction across the world. They must take this issue very seriously because air quality has gotten to the point where people are getting sick and dying there (The News Tribune, 2014). As of now China is promoting green energy to help cut back the use of fossil fuels, but this is a slow change and they are also reducing iron production (Barbara Finamore). The implementation of these changes may be gradual but they must be in order to keep up with China s energy needs. These changes will be very helpful towards this crucial issue and though it may take time will eventually have a significant impact on reduction of air pollution in China. Another crucial step to reducing air pollution is changing energy habits. This goes hand in hand with reducing air pollution. If China is to permanently change their horrible air pollution they must not only reduce air pollution, but also switch to more effective energy sources. There are many types of clean energy sources such as: solar, wind, and hydroelectric. These energy sources are infinite, unlike coal and oil, which will eventually run out. As well as being more plentiful they also leave no pollution behind (NRDC). Though not all of China s needs can be filled by green or renewable energy but any little bit helps. This sonata has been chosen for analysis as it is the most popular Beethoven sonata within the performance circuit, as it is a well known piece worldwide. Secondly, Beethoven developed Sonata form, adding more thematic contrast and contrasting melodies reflecting his own personal struggles with his progressive loss of hearing and also his failures in his love life which all contributed to the passion and despair that is depicted within the sonatas during his second compositional stage in his career. Firstly, I will discuss the methods used in order to analyse the Form and Structure of the piece. The emphasis in analysis was often given to the form and structure of the piece, especially during the nineteenth century as this allows performers to gain knowledge more directly regarding the overall style of the piece. The sonata is composed in Sonata form and is separated into three movements, firstly the Grave Allegro di molto e con brio movement, followed by the Adagio Cantabile middle movement and finally the Rondo Allegro movement. During World War I, the Espionage Act of 1917 was used to jail prominent critics of American intervention in the war among them, Eugene V. Debs, four time presidential candidate (Ball, 146). Shortly after the war ended, A. Mitchell Palmer used the powers granted by the act to conduct mass arrests and deportation of hundreds of foreign residents (Emert, 54, 55, 56). During World War II, the federal government forcibly relocated thousands of Japanese Americans into what were essentially concentration camps (Cooper, 10, 11). The Japanese internment was implemented in the name of combating a virtually non existent military threat, for fear that Americans of Japanese descent might aid the Empire of Japan (Cooper, 63). After the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon and the declaration of the War on Terror, the USA PATRIOT Act was hurriedly conceived and passed into law (Ball, 38). Firstly, Fitzgerald attacked the rich. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald presented two distinct types of wealthy people. First, there were people like the Buchanans and Jordan Baker who were born into wealth. Their families have had money for many generations. As portrayed in the novel, the old money people do not have to work, and they spend their time amusing themselves with whatever they please. Daisy, Tom, Jordan, and the distinct social class they represent were perhaps the story s most elitist group, imposing distinctions on the other people of wealth (like Gatsby) based not so much on how much money one had, but where that money came from and when it was acquired. For the old money people, the fact that Gatsby had only recently acquired his money was reason enough to dislike him. In their way of thinking, he cannot possibly have the same refinement, sensibility, and taste they have. Not only did he work for a living, but also he came from a low class background, which in their opinion, meant he could not possibly be like them. Lenin s own arguments prior to this held a much more anarchical view, advocating for the abolition of the army, of long term bureaucracy, and of the police force (State and Revolution 339). These calls would not be what went into effect in the end. It is here we see the first of the many major departures from Lenin s original theory which began to address the reality Russia was in.
