Mass Incarceration And Drug Criminalization
In recent decades, low income Americans have been facing the consequences of living in a country
whose criminal justice system is greatly influenced by skewed prosecution dynamics, and whose
structural discrepancies continue to encourage the mass incarceration phenomenon that affects
millions of individuals today. At rates higher than Russia and China, the U.S is incarcerating an
entire portion of its population based on irrelevant criteria such as affluence and race. The harsh
reality that both, poverty stricken individuals and prisoninmates face today, indicate a dire need for
systematic change, and should encourage citizens to become informed members of society. As
citizens have come together, and government officials become involved, many reforms have been
introduced and passed which are conducive to a more restorative approach to justice.
Addressing every existent disparity in the criminal justice system is an extensive pursuit that limits
the exploration of pioneering reforms via overload of information rather than focusing on the
systemic approach that corresponds to one or two issues. I have chosen to focus on two major
disparities that are profoundly correlated: mass incarceration and drug criminalization. By exploring
the history behind each of them, and by exposing the constructs that seem to have taken the term
justice out of our law enforcement practices and policies, I aim to build a platform that will lead to
the exploration of current initiatives and reforms

Medical Laser Equipment
INTRODUCTION
This Paper analyzes the Case 16: Medical Laser Equipment. Some of the given facts are as follows:
Order is set to every Monday which means an annual total of 50 orders No. of Periods= 250 Days
Annual Demand = 166 Units Average Inventory= 5 Units Order Cost = $95 Stock out Cost= $250
Holding Cost = 50% * $1,000 = $500 Capital Cost = 10% Handling Cost= 15%Obsolescence= 5%
Storage Cost= 20%
We started the case analysis by the normality test for the current data to check if the data is
normally distributed or not. Our objective is to calculate the current Total Cost and then come up
with a better solution to lower the cost.
As a result, we have developed two scenarios, both of them reveled ... Show more content on

of Orders
( I ) М… = Average Inventory
DDLT = Demand During Lead Time
SS = Safety Stock
ROP = Re Order Point
CURRENT SITUATION
In the current situation, the order is set to every Monday which means a total number of 50
orders for the whole period, and the average Inventory calculated from the given data is 5 units.
Therefore, total cost of the current situation calculation will be as follows: q=50 Orders C_P=$95
C_H=$500 ( I ) М…=5 Units
гЂ– в‡’ TC=(CгЂ—_P*q)+(( I ) М…* C_H)=(95*50)+(5*500) =4,750+2,500 =$7,250
PROPOSED MODELS
In line with our objective, we proposed two different models both resulted in reducing the total
cost. Proposed scenarios are: Scenario I:Using Economic Order Quantity Concept Scenario II:Using
McLaren s Order Moment Concept
Below are the details of each scenario.
SCENARIO I: ECONOMIC ORDER QUANTITY EOQ
EOQ as described everywhere is the order quantity that minimizes total inventory holding costs
and ordering costs. It is one of the oldest classical production scheduling models . This model uses
the following assumptions: The ordering cost is constant which is in our case is $95. The rate of
demand is known and normally distributed which have been proved by the normality test presented
above. The lead time

Consider The Lobsters By David Foster Wallace Summary
Animals as well as humans have been around for an extended period of time showing that there
obviously has been some sort of interactions between them throughout the years which may not
have always been all the bad. They have been here for hundreds of thousands of years. They are
our main source of comfort, happiness, joy, fun, and of course: food. Without animals we would
not be at the point in life where we are today. Our next best source of food besides animals would
have to be plants and who wants to eat plants all the time for every meal and only that? The
treatment of those animals that we use as a food source and even the ones as pets is not always
positive. Lobsters, a primary food source for the wealthy, are treated very poorly, for... Show more

In the essay Ethics and the New Genetics by The Dalai Lama the most information about
cloning is found. Within his first couple pages he makes sure that he gets he view on the idea
known. In principle, I have no objection to cloning as such as a technological instrument for
medical and therapeutic purposes (The Dalai Lama, 135). Although there are many people who
would agree with the Dalai Lama on the idea that cloning should only be used for medical
purposes there are many people who would also disagree with him on this and think that it is okay
to clone at any point in time for any reason, simply because they can and they want to. I once saw a
BBC documentary which simulated such creatures through computer animation, with some
distinctively recognizable human features. I was horrified (The Dalai Lama 135). The first
successful attempt at cloning was Dolly the sheep. Animals were used as test subjects for cloning
because who in their right mind would practice something that could end badly on something or
someone that actually does something useful in this world. No one is going to start out testing on a
human because that is just pictured as being wrong. So why is it fair to test something, that we
have no idea how it will react, on a helpless animal. The animal cannot prevent the testing from
happening simply because it is an animal and it does not have the strength and power that

Theatre Night Essay
While I was chowing down on my scrumptious breakfast like I hadn t eaten in months the leaders
of the camp explained to us with big grins on their faces that could not be trusted what was going
to happen today Alright everyone today we will have a relax day so we will walk to the market
have some free time there, come back and play some fun mini games and... I swore their grins
got even bigger like the joker had just killed batman We will be doing a theatre night!
Uuggghhhhh, chorused every single poor unfortunate soul in the room. I was alright with a
theatre night since I had some experience in drama club but there was no way in hell I was going
to perform in front of everyone. The day went along very quickly and smoothly without any
incidents which was an achievement when it came to us. The markets were pretty cool with all
the shops, I got a slushy and some subway with my money and I hung out with new friends.
When we all got back from the markets we separated into our own groups and started a day of
fun! We played 5 games in total which included the shaving the shaving cream off the ballon
trying not to pop it, building a shelter out newspaper and testing it out with water, playing tag
but with water balloons, blindfolding a partner and taking them on a obstacle course and trying
to untangle a long piece of rope. After all the games we decided to have a lunch break and then we
were off as a team to plan and practice for our performance of a life time. I sat

gain the right education and experience needed to acquire the skills, confidence and knowledge
essential in perusing a career as a registered nurse.
After much research I am certain in my discoveries that Molloy will give me the training I need

Defense Against a Cyber Attack with Malicious Code...
The name Malicious Code (Malware) Prevention Plan uses a strategy of defense in depth using
operational, human, and technical controls for effectiveness. Used properly, the technical controls
available to the TVA organization (TVAO) is effective in stopping a majority of malicious code
threats. However, the trusted insider normally has the access needed to turn a threat into an
operational risk. As to external threats, the TVAO can expect a continued pattern of organized
criminal involvement and international espionage to continue to target the weakest link in the
security chain: the human. The defense in depth concept is constructed to rapidly characterize,
attribute, and respond to attacks and is given the name Defense of The Grid System or DTGS. The
DTGS provides the capability to monitor, detect, analyze, and respond to unauthorized activity, as
well as unintentional, non malicious user errors within the iSOC, Tops, and Gen, components of
the DTGS. For the DTGS system and its monitored component systems, must detect attacks and
respond quickly (e.g. limiting access, excising users, or even disconnecting from the network.) The
DTGS Interface Control Document (ICD) addresses five operational capabilities: DTGS defense
from cyber attack, maintaining service while under attack, recovering from cyber attack and reduce
vulnerabilities, monitoring Information Assistance (IA) of the DTGS. Defend the Grid from Cyber

Book Review on the French Revolution and the People Essay
For my report I read The French Revolution and the People by David Andress to learn what were
the reasons causing the French Revolutionary War. The main thesis of the book is the known
problems and reactions which affected the events and outcomes of the revolution in every stage,
now everyone in France was affected by the revolution. I agree with the author s thesis on many
different levels. Since the multiple troubles the people had at that time did not originate just then
but decades before. As well with constant economic pressure of all the upper classes upon them
only worsened the situation. Since all the troubles and problems of the poor were never looked
after, now everyone in France gets a taste of the revolution. First,... Show more content on

The churches collect tithes and since the right to collect tithes was owned by both the lay
landowners and seigneurs (similar to mayors) the tithes were mostly mandatory. Although the tithe
was to pay for the church s services you still would be charged for weddings, baptisms, and

Second, how seigneurialism did not get rid of feudalism but only changed it for the seigneurs to

lords wanted more money and they couldn t tax serfs who didn t get paid. The seigneurs had
many rights such over extensive land, an annual rent, a share of harvest; fee if land has changed
hands or inherited would be paid by past serfs. They also had rights over the game in their land
forbidding peasants from killing anything without privilege, as well as the right to ride over
peasant s crops during the pursuit of the game. Also more rights are honorary pews in the front of

another problem that occurred during that time was a drought. France ran into a few climatic

Nazi Germany And The Nuclear Weapons Program
In early 1939, the scientific community was stunned when German scientists discovered how to
split a uranium atom. The world was shocked at the possibility of Nazi Germany building an
atomic weapon, capable of destruction never before seen in warfare. Luckily for the Allied Powers,
scientists Albert Einstein and Enrico Fermi, worked for the United States atomic research program
codenamed the Manhattan Project. Einstein and Fermi had escaped Nazi Germany and the Fascist
government in Italy, respectively. Initially the worth of the project was not realized, and it
proceeded slowly. Eventually, as the worth was proved, new resources and funding were allocated,
totaling 120,000 employees and two billion dollars. On July 16, 1945 the United States
successfully tested an atomic bomb, and won the atomic race (The Manhattan Project). While the
United States was working on the Manhattan Project, Nazi Germany was working on its own
nuclear weapons program, but unlike the United States, the Nazis never realized the importance of
a nuclear weapon, and allocated only a fraction of the personnel, resources, and funding the
United States did. The progress of the Nazi atomic weapons program was further slowed
(Walker). The debate continues whether or not a Nazi atomic bomb was ever completed, but if it
were, it was not ever used in combat. Had a bomb been completed a significant amount of time
before the end of the war, the Nazis had advanced and sufficient planes, submarines, and rockets

Value and impact of changes to the $A
Australia s dollar value changes every hour which can have a large impact or small impact on
our economy and the world economy. The dollar Impacts businesses in Australia that play an
important role in the exportation of goods and importation of raw materials Pettinger, T. (2013).
If the Australian dollar was too depreciate it would make exports cheaper and imports into
Australia more expensive. The impact of the depreciation of the Australian dollar matter upon the
elasticity of demand, If firms sell goods that are price inelastic, then the fall in their foreign price
will have a relatively small increase in demand. If exports are price sensitive, then there s a bigger
percentage increase in demand (Pettinger, T. 2013). A possible problem of a depreciation in the
Australian dollar is that it may cause inflation. Firms could then face costs such as greater
uncertainty in inflation does result. Both demand and inflation are major causes in the value and
change of the Australian dollar.

Batman Films Vs. Batman
Batman is one of the most well known superheroes in the world. Since his first appearance in
Detective Comics #27 in 1939, he seems to have just gotten more famous even after over 75
years. However, the Batman that audiences see now is not the same Batman that first appeared in
1939. Batman had a solid moral compass and could very clearly see the line between right and
wrong. In most of the early films and serials, he is cheesy to a point where it becomes hard to
watch. Throughout the years, Batmanfilms have become increasingly more sinister and menacing,
when they used to be comical and cheesy in the early films. Although there are numerous versions
of Batmanand Batman movies, I have chosen to analyze the following films from different... Show

Later in the film, Batman s origin story is shown and young Bruce Wayne does witness the deaths
of his parents. This film is dark visually because Gotham is dark and dimly lit. That makes the film
seem more menacing. There is far more crime in 1989 Gotham than there was in 1966 Gotham, and
the criminals actually appear threatening. They look rough and brandish weapons, instead of just
fist fighting. As in most Batman films, Joker adds some danger. Jack Nicholson s portrayal of
Joker definitely makes Joker seem crazier and more of a loose cannon. Jack Nicholson played
crazy Jack Torrance in The Shining (1980) only nine years before playing Joker in Batman. It
could be argued that audiences were so scared of his insane mannerisms as Torrance that their
fear carried over when watching him as Joker in Batman. Nicholson does portray Joker as being
actually crazy and unpredictable, which keeps the audience on their toes. Nicholson has crazy
eyes and does not seem to be someone who is warm and cozy, in fact, he seems the opposite. As an
actor, he plays characters that are intense and a little frightening, but that makes him a good actor to
play a villain because he has that villainous reputation. The Dark Knight is arguably the darkest
Batman film to date. This film is influenced There are five deaths

Fog Computing Of Smart City Essay
FOG COMPUTING IN SMART CITY
Arti Agrahari
Abstract: This paper represents a novel idea on how Fog computing can be used to manage the
immense data generated in smart city. Fog computing can also be called as edge computing, is a
distributed computing infrastructure in nature, for smart devices like mobile phones the
application services should be maintained near the end user side but the services are handled at
remote data server i.e. in cloud. Our aim is to reduce the amount of storage required, the time
required in data processing and data analysis and the propagation time in cloud computing. Thus by
handling data at network edge latency can be reduced and efficiency can be improved. In smart city
where the predicted data generation seems to be high enough can be stored at network edge giving
better performance in city by reducing latency.

This inner company transfer is outside control of NASA Rubber since if EROW cut back on
orders; its profit is hurt through the volume variance. EROW could change its purchase from
NASA depends on the sales prediction, inventory level, production capacity constraint and other
economic factors. Therefore, the uncertainty of the inner company transfer would weaken the
accuracy of the production estimates, and in turn affect the determination of the total fixed costs.
The determination of both two numbers above involves some uncertainties. Therefore, volume
variance is not an accurate measurement of the performance of NASA Rubber. To improve the
budgeting efficient, the management should consider transfer problem and other factors I
addressed above. Using relevant and proper information will help NASA Rubber in performance
forecasting.

Observation On A Restaurant
On October 15, 2017 at approximately 10 AM, I woke up to go to Freddie s Restaurant to start
my observations. It was a nice morning, about 50 degrees and sunny with a slight breeze. I hopped
into my Chevy truck to head to the restaurant. There were cars zipping around the town because
church had just gotten let out, and families were going to get food somewhere.
Through my personal experiences, I know that Freddie s is a popular place to go on a Sunday. The
owner s daughter, Stephanie Cannon, is my middle brother s girlfriend (also my broker), and she
worked at the restaurant on its busiest days. She explained to me that many families enjoy
gathering at Freddie s for a traditional breakfast after their church service is finished. She also
noted that Freddie s offers some of the best food for a great price. On certain Sundays, there is a
breakfast buffet that is extremely popular, and there s a wide variety of food offered at those
buffets. I also know the owners, Mark and Sue Cannon, very well because they are obviously
Stephanie s parents. Our families have been very close ever since I was a little kid, and we ve
eaten at Freddie s many times. During the summer when my brother and Steph are home, we eat
there occasionally. It s nice because we don t even have to pay.
I had to pick up my brother, Derek, and Steph from her house because they wanted to go to
breakfast while I observed. We arrived at the restaurant, and there were a lot of cars parked outside

Mature Themes in The Dark Knight Essay examples
In a movie where good and evil are divided by a very thin line, the Dark Knight rises up to fight
against injustice and corruption in Gotham City. An action sequel to the original Batman Begins,
this installment is a lot darker filled with more explosion, twists, and suspense. For the first time, a
comic has been integrated into the issues of the real world. With the help of District Attorney
Harvey Dent and Lieutenant Gordon, Batman sets out to dismantle the remaining mob members
and clean the streets of Gotham for good. Their success is only short lived when they encounter the

Nolan creates an atmosphere where one scene will move steadily to the next, building

explores a deeper meaning in good vs. evil. It makes the film seem so real life unlike most

real life. The lights and effects are very promising. Christian Bale returns to play the billionaire
playboy Bruce Wayne and his alter ego Batman. His role in this movie is much more in depth
than his first one. His first role seemed to be more at a superficial level and not often did he have
to fight within himself. His adversary, the Joker is played by Heath Ledger who he would

Huntington s Disease Study
Huntington s disease, or HD, is a genetic neuro generative condition that is characterized by
progressive dysfunction in motor, cognitive and behavioral abilities. There are about 4 10 cases per
100,000 throughout the world, which makes it one of the most prevalent genetic neuro generative
disorders. Huntington s disease is a dominant gene mutation that occurs in the huntingtin gene. The
result is an excessive repeat of the nucleotide triad cytosine adenine guanine (CAG) and causes
damage to neurons. The striatum of the brainand the cerebral cortex are most affected by the gene
but other parts of the brain atrophy as well. Typically, onset begins around the 4th decade of life

compared the metabolic profiles of pre manifest, manifest HD and control groups. The results
showed that amylin and ghrelin levels were significantly increased in all HD subjects compared to
the control group. The increase in ghrelin, an appetite stimulant, and amylin, an appetite
suppressant, demonstrates the numerous abnormalities regarding regulation of food ingestion and
absorption (Wang et al., 2014).
Another abnormality observed was a significant decrease in glucagon in the manifest HD group
compared to the control group. Glucagon plays a major role in upholding normal metabolism in
the body. It also acts as a protective agent by reducing the neurotoxic glutamate. Therefore, a
decrease in glucagon can play a significant part in the pathogenesis of Huntington s disease (Wang
et al., 2014).
Adiponectin is a hormone that is released from adipose tissue and is negatively correlated with
Body Mass Index. In HD subjects, this correlation was not significant. Decreased adiponectin
levels is usually linked with obesity and insulin resistance. These changes suggest that irregular
adipocyte function is associated with the metabolic changes in the pathophysiology of Huntington
s disease. Prolactin and total cholesterol levels were also decreased in all HD subjects and
showed erratic levels of leptin. This is likely due to impaired food digestion and absorption, which
is also supported by the increased amylin levels. Essentially, the study s findings show that HD
patients have a decreased ability to maintain metabolic homeostasis and abnormal hormone levels

Dynamic Character In Jeanne Duprau s The City Of Ember
After reading The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau, I ve learned that Lina Mayfleet (who is the
main character) is a dynamic character. At the beginning of the book, she is determined.
Eventually, the character becomes curious and adventurous. Here are some actions and dialogue
to prove her character traits. First, I have learned that Lina Mayfleet is determined by her actions.

Economic perspective of Climate change Climate is an average weather condition during a region
in a given period, it will not change by one day or one night, but instead caused through over time.
From the perspective of meteorology, The climate changerefers to a specific location, time of
regional or global climate change or conversion, based on the all of the conditions associated with
the average weather characteristics, such as temperature, wind and precipitation etc. According to
the IPCC s Synthesis Report, Anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions have increased since the pre
industrial era, driven largely by economic and population growth, and are now higher than ever.
This has led to atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide that are
unprecedented in at least the last 800,000 years. Their effects, together with those of other
anthropogenic drivers, have been detected throughout the climate system and are extremely likely
to have been the dominant cause of the observed warming since the mid 20th century (Page4)
Human are the main reason to cause the climate change. While during the climate changing in

Isolation In The Chrysanthemums By John Steinbeck
The kind of life for a woman. The Chrysanthemums by John Steinbeck is a story about the risk of
opening up to people that we shouldn t. The story begins with the description of the isolated
California homestead, and transitions into the isolation of Elisa Allen, the main character. The story
begins with her watching men debate a business deal. After the deal comes through, her husband
comes and tells her that they are going out tonight to celebrate after he leaves to corral their cows.
When he leaves, a craftsman comes through looking to fix some pots and pans in return for money.

Analytical essay on: Number Three
Have we achieved the equality between men and women? Many of us would say we have
achieved that long time ago and that women have same rights as men. Today the only difference
would be the sex organ. But all that is happening mostly in the western world. There is still women
repression but indirectly. Especially in countries like China. Western men will go to china because
they have the opportunity to live the role of a man controlling over a woman.
The short story Number Three written by Anna Metcalfe, 2012, we follow a lady named Miss
Coral at work and how she looses her job at end.
The story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though she is accepting it because she has no other option, if she looses her job she will have
no money for the family and herself. The caption of the story defines this problem as well, number
three. When the director received the letter from Mr. James he asked her to leave just because she
is number three in this business and she is less important. In the letter Mr. James notes that he has
photographic evidence that will make the director have a stronger reason asking her to leave.
Sadly today there are women still going through these issues, because we still cannot leave the
thought of men controlling over women. When a man sees a woman in need he utilise her
situation, therefor we have not achieved the full equality between men and women yet, all over the
world.

Bernard Williams Utilitarianism
Ultimately, I believe that Bernard Williams argument that utilitarianism is inconsistent with
personal integrity is right. It removes the ability for formulate a decision based on one s own
ideas and values. Utilitarianism can truly limit one s life and that is not right. The basis of morality
is the quality of being in accord with standards of right or good conduct. Therefore, moralitycannot
demand that one make decisions that he/she truly does not choose. Every person has a free will
and should be able to make decisions for his or herself. With that, everyone has projects or goals he
/she want to fulfill based on his/her own interests. These plans are projects that are integral to who
that person is and the person he/she have strived throughout

Essay Cold War Rhetoric of the Lysenko Era
The Cold War Rhetoric of the Lysenko Era
During the Cold War, the Soviet Union forced its biologists to support the theory of the
inheritance of acquired characteristics, which opposed the conventional theory of genetics
accepted by the scientists in America and most of the world. This theory that environmentally
induced changes to an organism s physical or biochemical traits could be passed on to its
offspring was the main tenet in Lamarck s work during the early 1800s. It was accepted by most
biologists during Lamarck s time, until the work of Darwin on evolution by natural selection in
the mid 1800s and the discovery of Mendel s work on heredity in the early 1900s lead most
biologists to discount Lamarck s theory. However, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A Soviet scientist, Medvedev, argues that the dominance of Lysenkoism in the Soviet Unionwas
caused by the classification of science as bourgeois or proletarian, the government s aim to
increase agricultural production, the censorship in the press, the isolation of Soviet scientists, and
the Soviet s centralization of science (247 252). Joravsky, an American scholar, discounts
Medvedev s argument on the influence of Marxist theory and emphasizes Lysenko s appeal to
improving collectivized agriculture (The Lysenko Affair 228). Soyfer, a recent Russian scientist,
adds that Lysenko s appeal to Stalin s personal interests and views may have caused his popularity
with the state (Lysenko and the Tragedy of Soviet Science 202). However, these scholars focus on
the forces operating within the Soviet Union, and give little consideration to the larger Cold War
climate. The rhetoric of Lysenko s speech and other texts produced during the time shows that the
Cold War had a profound influence on how ideas were interpreted. The Cold War environment may
have motivated the Soviet state to support Lysenko s theory because it conflicted at a fundamental
level with the biological theory accepted in America and promised to propagate nationalist pride by

mannerisms, speech, music and atmosphere. The Montague gang is portrayed in a flamboyant,
relaxed and youthful manner. This is displayed by their colourful, casual, and holiday type,
choice of clothing. Their accessories, e.g. jewellery are throw away, meaningless junk and have
no substantial meaning to their purpose, (gang). Their cars are wild, bright and customised. Their
choice of music is head banger rock. The impression created is, fun loving, care free adolescence.
By contrast, the Capulets are very sophisticated, stylish and sleek. They dress in black tight fitting,
fashionable clothing, with a strong religious connotation. Their accessories are: crosses, gold,
medallion rings and black robes, which illustrate serious religious imagery. Both gangs are
privileged and affluent and they give the strong impression of being powerful and dangerous. Baz
Lurhmann has cleverly portrayed these two rival gangs to increase the understanding of young
viewers, who can identify with the gang /rivalry culture. The fact that there are two very
contrasting gangs increases the tension and sets off the viewer s anticipation of a dramatic time

It s not fair, I huffed, I don t want to leave! This is my home! My mother s brown eyes stared

The Free funds market is also known as the Transfer or Convertible market: This market has been
promoted by the strict controls that exist in the official market and the transparency issue on duties.
It has been said that this market provides support for the management of the duty applied on goods
imported.
The forex for all prohibited goods brought into the country may also have this market as its source.
It is a widely held opinion that the substantial part of the supply to this market is sterilized official
funds.
Most foreign exchange earners (with low corporate/individual compliance commitments) supply
funds to this market because of its higher rates i.e. premium over the official sources and
confidentiality. The premium that obtains here is primarily due to the absence of documentation.
The Cash/Travelers cheque (TC) market: This is the easiest of the markets to access. It commands
the highest premium due to the speed and guarantee of delivery offered. The cash market is the
street market mostly found around the international airports, hotels and major markets. (In Lagos

In this quote, the old man explains that the extensive cemetery and various tombstones are false.
Firstly, he points out that many of the tombstones that read Here lies the body of.. have no actual
body underneath because the individuals died at sea or in another country. In addition, every
tombstone is engraved with the cheesy sentimental sayings that are common on gravestones
which portray the people below as angelic, sacred beings. However, as the old man describes,
many were far from sacred which increases the tombstone heresy. For instance, one gravestone

Jonathan is like the lost Russian ship. On his way to Dracula s castle, he is aware only of a

oppressive like when Jonathan knows he is in danger, and then the full magnitude of the storm

similar to Dracula s temperament, first gracious and polite, then concerning, and finally malicious.
Just as the ship has been wavering and losing its members, Jonathan started to lose himself;

The Effects Of Maternal Behavior On Mother Rats Essay
Two scholarly articles compared the different effects maternal behavior can have on mother rats
later on in their lifetime. A maternal behavior can be defined as an act of love and caring toward
one s young (2012). Memory, and the rats ability to learn a response were tested through two
different experiments. Learning was tested by a classical conditioningapproach. Classical condition
was first discovered by Ivan Pavlov. The overall concept of classical conditioning is when a
response is elicited by a stimulus (Huitt Hummel, 1997). On the other hand, both articles studied
rats with varying degrees of maternal experience. Comparatively, rats estrogen cycles were tested
in both articles. Overall, there are five stages: proestrus, estrus, metestrus, diestrus, and anestrus. In
rats, each cycle lasts about four to five days in length. Unlike humans, rats reach puberty at only
six to eight weeks old (Hill, 2016). Twain articles were compared through a comparative analysis.
In the article Once a Mother Always a Mother: Maternal Experience Protects Females from the
Negative Effects of Stress on Learning, the researchers tested whether maternal rat behavior has a
lasting effect on learning due to stress with virgin and parous rats. The parous had already given
birth to at least one litter of pups. Throughout the experiment, the parous rats were not taking care
of their young or lactating. For this experiment, the independent variable was stress and maternal
experience.

Analysis Of The Movie Famous
The image I ve chosen is a still from one of Kanye West s recent music videos titled Famous. I
found this video on YouTube a couple months back when it was released in July and found it
quite interesting. The specific still I m using from the video is shown towards the end of the
video when the camera completely zooms out revealing all the sleeping bodies. One of the main
reasons this image captured my attention and caught me off guard was because of the people
featured in the video and the fact that they were all completely naked. Here is a little bit of
background on the song itself. During the 2009 VMAs Taylor Swift won the award for Best
Female Video over Beyonce who was also nominated for the same category. As Taylor was
giving her acceptance speech, Kanye came onto the stage and interrupted her by saying that
Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time. Because of this historical moment (if you will)
Kanye claims that Taylor Swift is only famous because of him. A popular line from the song
Famous is I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex why?/ I made that b**ch famous. Taylor
of course did not like this and even talked about this in her Grammy acceptance speech basically
saying that she worked hard to get to where she is. Since then there s been drama between Taylor
and The Wests (Kim and Kanye). So when I saw Taylor in Kanye s video I was very shocked

Batman An Auteur Analysis
The question at hand states, In evaluating a film, should we interpret and evaluate it by considering
how the film is the creative work of a single author or auteur? (Yenter, Essay Information ).
Understanding my claim requires an understanding of what an auteur is. The original auteur theory
is the idea that the director is the sole author of the film. There are three different strategies that are
typically used to argue for the theory of single authorship. Those strategies are as follows: the
restriction strategy, the sufficient control strategy, and the construction strategy. By assessing these
various strategies attempting to defend single authorship as well as assessing the poststructuralist
theory, I will show how the director alone... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Harry Potter movies have not been evaluated based on the work of the director(s). According to
the auteur theory, each of the movies would need to be evaluated and interpreted based on the
creative work of the director each specific movie. This would be as if we are saying each Harry
Potter movie is separate and distinct from the Harry Potter movies created by a different
director. As Harry Potter is meant to be evaluated and interpreted as a unified series, the auteur
theory interpretation would make utterly no sense. Obviously, by using Harry Potter as an
example, many opponents would make that claim that J.K. Rowling wrote the books. Even if
we can compare literature to film and J.K. Rowling is also said to be the author of the films, she
is not the director. But because of her role in creating these novels, she had a say in how the
movies portrayed them, and in some cases, similar to Thor, her vision overruled the director s
vision. As intertextuality makes clear, films are collaborative efforts, not the sole work of the

The Lottery, By Shirley Jackson And An Adaptation Of ``...
The Lottery by Shirley Jackson and an adaptation of The Metamorphosis by Peter Kuper are
valuable short stories that are worth a close evaluation of. A comparison and contrast of the theme
alienation in both stories would lead to a more thorough understanding of the messages behind the
texts. The purpose of this essay is to answer the question on what insights do we gain into the
course theme of alienation when we read both The Lotteryand The Metamorphosis side by side?
Gregor Samsain The Metamorphosis by Peter Kuper and the townspeople in The Lottery by Shirley
Jacksonare similar in that they both reveal a passive approach to alienation that ultimately leads to
the growing of alienation; the alienation is different for Gregor and the townspeople in terms of
how active they participate within their community determine their likelihood of being
marginalized. Gregor s minimal expression of his feelings towards his family alienates and
marginalizes Gregor from his family. The townspeople s active participation in the lottery,
however, contributes to the severity of alienation within the town. These two stories attempt to tell
us that alienation and the failure to take initiative to resist oppression are interconnected. This

an active and inactive role in their story s context would foster different types of alienation. In The

(3) List the objectives of the pharmacokinetic study. What can we learn from studying drugs in the
selected population?
The objective of this pharmacokinetic study was to evaluate the pharmacokinetics of prucalopride
in individuals with renal impairment. By studying drugs in patients with renal impairment, a greater
understanding of the effect of decreased drug renal clearance on drug doses can be made. This is
particularly important in the current aging population, whereby decreased renal function is a natural
consequent of old age, as is the increased prevalence of constipation associated with drug treatments
and lifestyle changes. Considering 60% of prucalopride is excreted unchanged in urine, renal
excretion is one of the most important routes of elimination for prucalopride. This further validates
the importance of this study in the selected population.
Although prucalopride is not currently approved for use in men, this pharmacokinetic study
involved both men and women. This enables results of the study to be applicable for potential
future use in men.
(4) Briefly describe the study design including information about the dosage and the route of
administration.
The study involved 34 men and women aged 18 75 years old. They were each classified by renal
function:
Normal renal function (creatinine clearance ≥ 80mL/min/1.73m2)
Mild renal impairment (creatinine clearance 50 79mL/min/1.73m2)
Severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance ≤

Phy Lab Essay
Geometrical Optics: Snell s Law
PHY101 Lab 12
Date: July 23rd, 2012
Objective:
The purpose of this laboratory activity is to develop a set of experimental procedures that answer
questions regarding Snell s Law and the index of refraction. Ultimately, the experimental
procedures you develop will allow the index of refraction to be found for water and cooking oil.
1. Explain how to experimentally determine the index of refraction of two substances. 2. Develop
a set of experimental procedures to find the index of refraction for water and cooking oil. 3.
Calculate the index of refraction using Snell s Law. 4. Explain critical angle and total internal
reflection.

4. Once the ray goes through and refracts in the oil and comes out to air from the curving side of
the cell, record the point the ray comes out by drawing a dot on the paper using the pencil. 5.
Record the line that the light goes from air to oil, and connect the dot with the intersection point of
the vertical line and flat cell side. 6. Measure the angle Π2andφ2.
DATA
When light passes from one medium to another, air to water for example, part of the light is
reflected at the boundary and part of the light gets bent as it passes on to the new medium. The
bending of this light is referred to as refraction. A sketch of this is shown below.
In this example, n1 is the index of refraction for air. The index of refraction for water is n2.
According to Snell s Law:
n1 sin О = n2 sin П†
n(air)=1
Note: The angles are measured with respect to the normal (vertical).
Part of the scientific method is to develop laboratory procedures that test a hypothesis and answer a
scientific question.
Construct an Excel spreadsheet to calculate the index of refraction for water and cooking oil.
Remember that in Excel angular measurement is in radians. Pi radians = 180 degrees.

Lab Experiment
The following lab report will determine if the mass of the unknown object be predicted based on
the analysis of previous data. The purpose of this lab experiment is to find the mass of an
unknown object. The way this experiment will be accomplished is through a use of the line
regression method. This lab will begin with eight objects whose massis known to see if there is a
perfect fit relation between the mass of the objects to the period that is being tested. This lab
consists of the use of five materials that included a standard masses, a stopwatch, tape, a C clamp,
and an internal balance. The procedure was simple, measure the time it took eight masses to get to

Therefore the mass of the unknown object could be predicted based on the analysis of data
through the use of linear regression form. This is because the scared plots of the second graph
created best resemble a straight line, meaning that the unknown mass is predictable and can be
placed on the graph. An R2 value of one or close to one means the relation is fit and present. The
mass of the unknown object was determined through the use of the linear regression equation of
the second graph. The period of this unknown mass was squared and then inserted this number
into the period squared equation. The mass was determined to be between about 330g. Like in
any other experiment there is room for error, this room for error is present since the results are
based of numbers that aren t completely exact. The graph of period squared vs mass proved to
only be trusted after 300g, the graph for period vs mass had the same results. A questionable
scatter point that did arise was on the graph for period squared vs mass. In this graph a plot was
placed at .011 seconds which compared to the others is quite different. This could be the error in
the experiment, outside factors such as the force that was applied to the object could have
dramatically changed the results. In order to control this factor and get more accurate results the
experiment would have to factor that the same force be applied to each

Essay on The Supernatural in Hamlet
The Supernatural in Hamlet
Though Shakespeare cannot claim the invention of the ghosts in tragedies, still he can claim to
have clothed his ghost in Hamlet with convincingness. This essay concerns his one supernatural
character in the tragedy.
Regarding the supernatural in Hamlet, Cumberland Clark says in The Supernatural in Hamlet :
At least six or seven years pass after the writing of Midsummer Night s Dream before we find
Shakespeare engaged on Hamlet, the second of the great plays with an important Supernatural
element, and, in the opinion of many, the greatest tragedy ever penned. What a profound change
has come over his attitude towards the Unseen! No longer does he handle it in . . . [a] cheerful, ...

W.H. Clemen in Imagery in Hamlet Reveals Character and Theme describes the pervasive influence
which the Ghost s words have on the entire play:
Perusing the description which the ghost of Hamlet s father gives of his poisoning by Claudius,
one cannot help being struck by the vividness with which the process of poisoning, the malicious
spreading of the disease, is portrayed:
Sleeping within my orchard,
My custom always of the afternoon,
Upon my secure hour thy uncle stole,
With juice of cursed hebenon in a vial,
And in the porches of my ears did pour
The leperous distilment; whose effect
Holds such an enmity with blood of man
That swift as quicksilver it courses through
The natural gates and alleys of the body,
And with a sudden vigour doth posset
And curd, like eager droppings into milk,
The thin and wholesome blood: so did it mine;
And a most instant tetter bark d about,
Most lazar like, with vile and loathsome crust,
All my smooth body. (1.5)
A real event described at the beginning of the drama has exercised a profound influence upon the
whole imagery of the play. What is later metaphor is here still reality. The picture of the leprous
skin disease, which is here in the first act

Martin Luther And The Reformation
Thesis Statement
The purpose of my paper will reflect the life of Martin Luther during the Reformation period and the
changes brought forth as a result of his teachings and writings. Luther s findings not only
transformed his own actions, but change the thought process of millions. The study of Martin Luther
is the key that unlocks the background of the Protestant Reformation and it s origins.
Introduction
Research on Martin Luther was chosen to demonstrate the importance of his works, and decisions
that not only fueled his purpose, but changed the church for generations to come. Martin Luther
propelled himself into his work and was not afraid of voicing his often strong opinion of the
Catholic Church. Luther s Ninety Five Theses provides readers his opinion of the church, calling
out failures, and known corruption of leaders within.
Foundation
Martin Luther was born on November 10th, 1483 in Eisleben, Germany. He was the son of Hans
and Margareth Luder. His father worked in a copper mine, and through years of hard work they
became fruitful. Through his own personal struggles Hans Luder did not want the same life for
beloved Martin. Education and faith played a huge role during Luther s adolescent years as he
learned Latin and law and continue to excel in these areas well into his adulthood. This
development would continue to shape Luther s beliefs and principles. In the early 1500s, Luther
was able to continue his studies near Erfurt.
At the young age of eighteen

Life Cycle Segmentation Of Swatch

There are companies that base their segmentation on specific countries, or regions, however, the
other type of companies mostly focus on life cycle segmentation. Swatch do not focus on regional
segmentation because consumer of Swatch products can be anywhere in the world.
Swatch concentrates on life cycle and age segments. They believe that model and design,
technology, and materials used for production of goods are based on these factors. For example,
Swatch has Creart by Swatch line, which is designed by artists, especially street painters for
teenagers. At the same time they have Full Blooded collection, which consists of more classic
watches mostly designed for adults. Further, Swatch produces special products for special
occasions like: Valentine Day, Mothers Day, and etc.

Trait Theory, As Its Name Suggest Is A Platform To Study
Trait theory, as its name suggest is a platform to study Human Psychology that identifies and
measures the degree to which certain personality traits recurring patterns of thought and behavior,
such as anxiousness, shyness, openness to new things exist from individual to individual. The
subject involves a set number of personality traits (although the number of traits can vary wildly)
and assigns the degree that a trait exists, which then determines the individual s personality. Dr.
William Sheldon (1898 1977) was an American psychologist who during his career held teaching

Allport s theories remained influential in personality theory, but 4,000 traits were considered by
many to be unwieldy and impractical for applications. So in the 1940s, Raymond Cattell boiled Trait
Theory down to something more manageable. In Cattell s early career he was a research assistant
to Charles Spearman, who developed a way of approaching statistics called factor analysis, which
involved grouping commonly appearing factors in sets of data.
Raymond Cattell, was a British chemist, statistician and psychologist with a fascination for
human personality and behavior who disagreed with Eyesenck s view that personality could be
understood by looking at two or three dimensions. In the 1940s, Cattell began what was to be
many years of research into personality traits. Frustrated with personality theories that only
seemed to describe separate aspects of personality, he set out to try to identify all of the traits that
made up a person. He was influenced by the devastating effects of the First and Second World
Wars, and hoped that if human nature could be better understood, it would bring mankind closer to
solving global political and economic problems. In order to scientifically establish a formal
framework for understanding personality, Cattell used a statistical technique known as factor
analysis. He started out with a list of 4,500 adjectives that could describe people (taken from the

Herman Melville s Bartleby As A Scrivener
In Herman Melville s Bartleby, most of the characters either fall on the spectrum of desiring
power or submitting to the power of others. However, the title character, Bartleby, manages to
avoid either of those positions, and instead denounces any kind of power. Bartleby s passive
resistance to his work on Wall St. is his way of attempting to break free not just from the authority
of the Lawyer, but the authority of conventional society as a whole. The form of resistance
Bartleby takes erupts from the disillusionment regarding his work as a scrivener. In the beginning,
he is a hard worker, arguably an ideal employee. Yet, the more his work dehumanizes him, the more
he disconnects from any authority. Instead of actively rebelling, however,

person, he was the face of a team of rented strangers (Lewis, p. 110) who are experts at doing

team do not have their luggage stolen when the candidate changed his plans last minute. Bob Dole

Not only do they show up to debates to chant outside, but they also line up to ask questions.
These questions aim to force the candidates to take a stance, or looks foolish if they cannot
answer. Lewis emphasises Dole s unwillingness to engage in these kinds of questions by drawing
on transcripts of these interaction. The transcripts from New Hampshire and Iowa can both be
summed as question, waffle, restate question, move on (Lewis, p. 55). Gay rights, and Dole s
position on them, could only serve to hurt Dole s campaign, and that is why Dole did not want
to answer the questions. Dole s message focused on stressing his reliability, stability and his
dependability. Bob Dole keeps his word. If the farmers show up, Bob Dole ll win big time. No
one has accused Bob Dole of going in for dramatics (Lewis, p. 56). Dramatics like raising new
issues and discussions. Strategically, Dole should be risk adverse as the current course of actions
has benefitted him. The current political environment has resulted in Dole being the leading

The customer will constantly interact with the website where this adds value to the relationship
with the customers and the business. As the customer scrolls down, they are able to sign up for
Ginga Rewards Newsletter , this allows them to be constantly notified of the monthly rewards,
promotions and offers. By sending out newsletter to the customers, it helps the customers learn
about the restaurant and the food, this further builds on the relationship between the customer and
the business (Chaffey 2013).
Weakness
1. Bad site navigation: When customers visits a restaurant s website they expect the menu to be
easily located, a tab specifically for the menu perhaps. In this case, Ginga s restaurant menu was
very hard to locate, it required a lot of searching before it was finally located. This is a major flaw
for the website as it didn t allow the user to efficiently locate the information they are looking for
hence, causing them to have an unsatisfactory experience (Chaffey 2013).
2. Slow loading time: Due to the website being very intricate and detailed, the loading time for
the website is fairly slow. When pressing on different tabs, sometimes the content fails to load or
shows up a few seconds later. The rule of thumb is website visitors will not hang around the site if
they have to wait for more than 4 seconds for the content to load (Chaffey 2013). Next Step:

Theme Of Woman At Point Zero
The theme of oppression is evident in Woman at Point Zero. Firdaus the narrator of the story
narrates what she has gone through in her life until she is about to be convicted. Through her
narration, the reader is able to know the forms of oppression that Firdaus has gone through.
Firdaus experiences oppression from childhood to adulthood and whenever she tries to run from
one form of oppression, she finds herself in another. From childhood, Firdaus is oppressed by her
biological father and her uncle, in adulthood men of different calibers sexually oppress her. It is
from this painful act that when the researcher meets Firdaus, she openly tells her the hatred she has
towards men, arising from the male oppression throughout her life. She is even happy to face the
executer because the world is full of oppression. She narrates:

father constantly batters his wife. Women characters in Woman at Point Zero are oppressed by
males in the text. The homodiegetic narrator being one of the Characters, retells the ordeal that they
go through in the hands of men. The homodiegetic narrator gives out a detailed account of what
happened to her right from her childhood up to adulthood. She endures and experiences the

The Code Of Ethics And The Law Of The Public Health,...
Engineering is a vastly renowned and studied field, stemming from the rise of empires. This field
has such a wide area of study that there is no one engineer in the same, all are professionals in
their own field. In each one of these fields, there is a certain code of ethics that must be lived and
maintained, by the engineer themselves. There are lists of the different ethicsmodels, but to list a
few: there is
Rule Based Utilitarianism, Duty Ethics, Rights Ethics, Virtue Ethics, and the NCEES ethical code.
All of these individual codes clearly states, and sets guidelines for the engineers to follow and live
by. These ethics set the standard and obligations that engineers and their partners have to their
clients, society, and themselves.
According to the National Society of Professional Engineers, the services provided by engineers
require honesty, impartiality, fairness, and equity, and must be dedicated to the protection of the
public health, safety, and welfare (NSPE, 2015). This means that engineers need to work towards
providing all customers, including society as a whole, the best work and proficient product they
possibly can. To ensure that each project they work on is working correctly, they must properly test
and design said product, to shed light on any future issues they may encounter. Essentially, these
different ethical codes help to ensure that the quality of work engineers output is up to par, and in
the best interest of everyone

Psychoanalytic Criticism Of Catch 22
Reading a narrative from a psychoanalytic perspective can prove to be a sometimes frustrating
experience. Psychoanalysis often disregards the actual texts and verbal context of a piece of
literature in favor of the Freudian and Lacanian ideas, which seek to find encrypted motifs in the
depths of every creation in order to reveal the author s unconscious mind. Nevertheless, the critiques
of psychoanalytic interpretation of literature claim that such interpretations focus on the content of
the text at the expense of the literary form and temporal dimension, which can reduce the literary
plots to lifeless machinations. Furthermore, psychoanalytic interpretation of a text may tell us less
about the author s unconscious mind and more about the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s a gambit even Yossarian might hesitate on. Yossarian s sinthome, which prevents him from
losing his mind completely, can be numerous things. It could be Yossarian s insistence to survive
the war in spite of the constant attempts of nearly everyone around him to kill him. It could be
his fight for human decency in the face of the horror of war. Or, quite possibly, it could be his
struggle to prove to the big Other that he will surmount the catch 22. The war affected Heller
more than he was willing to admit at the beginning of his career; however, the more he wrote,
the more he was able to deal with his demons. As such, the real story of his war trauma slowly
unfolded. The war experience left Heller as a tortured, funny, deeply peculiar human being
(Blake, 2011). Heller s sinthome during the war, it seems, was his writing. His writing is his
relief as well. It s his unraveling agent, and in that manner, it s therapeutic. One of his roommates
had brought with him a typewriter, giving a means for Heller s burning desires to relieve stress
through his writing. His distinguished career in writing may very well have stopped him losing
his mind in the harrowing nature of war (Blake, 2011). The best approach to succeed is to mortify,
rule, and put down others, an approach wonderfully exemplified in Captain Black s never ending
attempts to inspire individuals to expend themselves with envy or, as he puts it, eat your

  • 2. Mass Incarceration And Drug Criminalization In recent decades, low income Americans have been facing the consequences of living in a country whose criminal justice system is greatly influenced by skewed prosecution dynamics, and whose structural discrepancies continue to encourage the mass incarceration phenomenon that affects millions of individuals today. At rates higher than Russia and China, the U.S is incarcerating an entire portion of its population based on irrelevant criteria such as affluence and race. The harsh reality that both, poverty stricken individuals and prisoninmates face today, indicate a dire need for systematic change, and should encourage citizens to become informed members of society. As citizens have come together, and government officials become involved, many reforms have been introduced and passed which are conducive to a more restorative approach to justice. Addressing every existent disparity in the criminal justice system is an extensive pursuit that limits the exploration of pioneering reforms via overload of information rather than focusing on the systemic approach that corresponds to one or two issues. I have chosen to focus on two major disparities that are profoundly correlated: mass incarceration and drug criminalization. By exploring the history behind each of them, and by exposing the constructs that seem to have taken the term justice out of our law enforcement practices and policies, I aim to build a platform that will lead to the exploration of current initiatives and reforms ... • 5. Consider The Lobsters By David Foster Wallace Summary Animals as well as humans have been around for an extended period of time showing that there obviously has been some sort of interactions between them throughout the years which may not have always been all the bad. They have been here for hundreds of thousands of years. They are our main source of comfort, happiness, joy, fun, and of course: food. Without animals we would not be at the point in life where we are today. Our next best source of food besides animals would have to be plants and who wants to eat plants all the time for every meal and only that? The treatment of those animals that we use as a food source and even the ones as pets is not always positive. Lobsters, a primary food source for the wealthy, are treated very poorly, for... Within his first couple pages he makes sure that he gets he view on the idea known. In principle, I have no objection to cloning as such as a technological instrument for medical and therapeutic purposes (The Dalai Lama, 135). Although there are many people who would agree with the Dalai Lama on the idea that cloning should only be used for medical purposes there are many people who would also disagree with him on this and think that it is okay to clone at any point in time for any reason, simply because they can and they want to. I once saw a BBC documentary which simulated such creatures through computer animation, with some distinctively recognizable human features. I was horrified (The Dalai Lama 135). The first successful attempt at cloning was Dolly the sheep. Animals were used as test subjects for cloning because who in their right mind would practice something that could end badly on something or someone that actually does something useful in this world. No one is going to start out testing on a human because that is just pictured as being wrong. So why is it fair to test something, that we have no idea how it will react, on a helpless animal. The name Malicious Code (Malware) Prevention Plan uses a strategy of defense in depth using operational, human, and technical controls for effectiveness. Used properly, the technical controls available to the TVA organization (TVAO) is effective in stopping a majority of malicious code threats. However, the trusted insider normally has the access needed to turn a threat into an operational risk. As to external threats, the TVAO can expect a continued pattern of organized criminal involvement and international espionage to continue to target the weakest link in the security chain: the human. The defense in depth concept is constructed to rapidly characterize, attribute, and respond to attacks and is given the name Defense of The Grid System or DTGS. The DTGS provides the capability to monitor, detect, analyze, and respond to unauthorized activity, as well as unintentional, non malicious user errors within the iSOC, Tops, and Gen, components of the DTGS. Book Review on the French Revolution and the People Essay For my report I read The French Revolution and the People by David Andress to learn what were the reasons causing the French Revolutionary War. The main thesis of the book is the known problems and reactions which affected the events and outcomes of the revolution in every stage, now everyone in France was affected by the revolution. I agree with the author s thesis on many different levels. Since the multiple troubles the people had at that time did not originate just then but decades before. • 11. Nazi Germany And The Nuclear Weapons Program In early 1939, the scientific community was stunned when German scientists discovered how to split a uranium atom. The world was shocked at the possibility of Nazi Germany building an atomic weapon, capable of destruction never before seen in warfare. Luckily for the Allied Powers, scientists Albert Einstein and Enrico Fermi, worked for the United States atomic research program codenamed the Manhattan Project. Einstein and Fermi had escaped Nazi Germany and the Fascist government in Italy, respectively. Initially the worth of the project was not realized, and it proceeded slowly. Eventually, as the worth was proved, new resources and funding were allocated, totaling 120,000 employees and two billion dollars. On July 16, 1945 the United States successfully tested an atomic bomb, and won the atomic race (The Manhattan Project). While the United States was working on the Manhattan Project, Nazi Germany was working on its own nuclear weapons program, but unlike the United States, the Nazis never realized the importance of a nuclear weapon, and allocated only a fraction of the personnel, resources, and funding the United States did. The progress of the Nazi atomic weapons program was further slowed (Walker). The debate continues whether or not a Nazi atomic bomb was ever completed, but if it were, it was not ever used in combat. Since his first appearance in Detective Comics #27 in 1939, he seems to have just gotten more famous even after over 75 years. However, the Batman that audiences see now is not the same Batman that first appeared in 1939. Batman had a solid moral compass and could very clearly see the line between right and wrong. In most of the early films and serials, he is cheesy to a point where it becomes hard to watch. Later in the film, Batman s origin story is shown and young Bruce Wayne does witness the deaths of his parents. This film is dark visually because Gotham is dark and dimly lit. They look rough and brandish weapons, instead of just fist fighting. As in most Batman films, Joker adds some danger. Jack Nicholson s portrayal of Joker definitely makes Joker seem crazier and more of a loose cannon. Jack Nicholson played crazy Jack Torrance in The Shining (1980) only nine years before playing Joker in Batman. It could be argued that audiences were so scared of his insane mannerisms as Torrance that their fear carried over when watching him as Joker in Batman. Nicholson does portray Joker as being actually crazy and unpredictable, which keeps the audience on their toes. Nicholson has crazy eyes and does not seem to be someone who is warm and cozy, in fact, he seems the opposite. Fog Computing Of Smart City Essay FOG COMPUTING IN SMART CITY Arti Agrahari Abstract: This paper represents a novel idea on how Fog computing can be used to manage the immense data generated in smart city. Fog computing can also be called as edge computing, is a distributed computing infrastructure in nature, for smart devices like mobile phones the application services should be maintained near the end user side but the services are handled at remote data server i.e. in cloud. Our aim is to reduce the amount of storage required, the time required in data processing and data analysis and the propagation time in cloud computing. Thus by handling data at network edge latency can be reduced and efficiency can be improved. In smart city where the predicted data generation seems to be high enough can be stored at network edge giving better performance in city by reducing latency. 1.INTRODUCTION Fog computing can also be called as edge computing, is a distributed computing infrastructure in nature, for smart devices like mobile phones the application services should be maintained near the end user side but the services are handled at remote data server i.e. in cloud. • 20. Huntington s Disease Study Huntington s disease, or HD, is a genetic neuro generative condition that is characterized by progressive dysfunction in motor, cognitive and behavioral abilities. There are about 4 10 cases per 100,000 throughout the world, which makes it one of the most prevalent genetic neuro generative disorders. Huntington s disease is a dominant gene mutation that occurs in the huntingtin gene. The result is an excessive repeat of the nucleotide triad cytosine adenine guanine (CAG) and causes damage to neurons. The striatum of the brainand the cerebral cortex are most affected by the gene but other parts of the brain atrophy as well. Typically, onset begins around the 4th decade of life although an early onset form can occur before the age of 20.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... compared the metabolic profiles of pre manifest, manifest HD and control groups. The results showed that amylin and ghrelin levels were significantly increased in all HD subjects compared to the control group. The increase in ghrelin, an appetite stimulant, and amylin, an appetite suppressant, demonstrates the numerous abnormalities regarding regulation of food ingestion and absorption (Wang et al., 2014). Another abnormality observed was a significant decrease in glucagon in the manifest HD group compared to the control group. Glucagon plays a major role in upholding normal metabolism in the body. It also acts as a protective agent by reducing the neurotoxic glutamate. Therefore, a decrease in glucagon can play a significant part in the pathogenesis of Huntington s disease (Wang et al., 2014). Adiponectin is a hormone that is released from adipose tissue and is negatively correlated with Body Mass Index. In HD subjects, this correlation was not significant. Decreased adiponectin levels is usually linked with obesity and insulin resistance. These changes suggest that irregular adipocyte function is associated with the metabolic changes in the pathophysiology of Huntington s disease. Prolactin and total cholesterol levels were also decreased in all HD subjects and showed erratic levels of leptin. This is likely due to impaired food digestion and absorption, which is also supported by the increased amylin levels. Essentially, the study s findings show that HD patients have a decreased ability to maintain metabolic homeostasis and abnormal hormone levels (Wang et al., ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay Cold War Rhetoric of the Lysenko Era The Cold War Rhetoric of the Lysenko Era During the Cold War, the Soviet Union forced its biologists to support the theory of the inheritance of acquired characteristics, which opposed the conventional theory of genetics accepted by the scientists in America and most of the world. This theory that environmentally induced changes to an organism s physical or biochemical traits could be passed on to its offspring was the main tenet in Lamarck s work during the early 1800s. It was accepted by most biologists during Lamarck s time, until the work of Darwin on evolution by natural selection in the mid 1800s and the discovery of Mendel s work on heredity in the early 1900s lead most biologists to discount Lamarck s theory. Joravsky, an American scholar, discounts Medvedev s argument on the influence of Marxist theory and emphasizes Lysenko s appeal to improving collectivized agriculture (The Lysenko Affair 228). Soyfer, a recent Russian scientist, adds that Lysenko s appeal to Stalin s personal interests and views may have caused his popularity with the state (Lysenko and the Tragedy of Soviet Science 202). However, these scholars focus on the forces operating within the Soviet Union, and give little consideration to the larger Cold War climate. The rhetoric of Lysenko s speech and other texts produced during the time shows that the Cold War had a profound influence on how ideas were interpreted. • 36. The Effects Of Maternal Behavior On Mother Rats Essay Two scholarly articles compared the different effects maternal behavior can have on mother rats later on in their lifetime. A maternal behavior can be defined as an act of love and caring toward one s young (2012). Memory, and the rats ability to learn a response were tested through two different experiments. Learning was tested by a classical conditioningapproach. Classical condition was first discovered by Ivan Pavlov. The overall concept of classical conditioning is when a response is elicited by a stimulus (Huitt Hummel, 1997). On the other hand, both articles studied rats with varying degrees of maternal experience. Comparatively, rats estrogen cycles were tested in both articles. Overall, there are five stages: proestrus, estrus, metestrus, diestrus, and anestrus. In rats, each cycle lasts about four to five days in length. Unlike humans, rats reach puberty at only six to eight weeks old (Hill, 2016). Twain articles were compared through a comparative analysis. In the article Once a Mother Always a Mother: Maternal Experience Protects Females from the Negative Effects of Stress on Learning, the researchers tested whether maternal rat behavior has a lasting effect on learning due to stress with virgin and parous rats. The parous had already given birth to at least one litter of pups. Throughout the experiment, the parous rats were not taking care of their young or lactating. For this experiment, the independent variable was stress and maternal experience. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Brazil Party System Essay Introduction: Political parties represent very important factor in order to have a democratic system in particular and a democratic country in general, they work as the mediator between the society and the state and the effectiveness of the party system in any country depend mainly on its ability to achieve the demands of the public. However, in Latin America, not all the countries have that important function of the party system. Brazil and Chile from the period of 1990 2006 show similar type of a party system [both have multi party politics] but not similar outcome regarding the fulfillment of public demands which should be the priority for any democratic governments]. (3) List the objectives of the pharmacokinetic study. What can we learn from studying drugs in the selected population? The objective of this pharmacokinetic study was to evaluate the pharmacokinetics of prucalopride in individuals with renal impairment. By studying drugs in patients with renal impairment, a greater understanding of the effect of decreased drug renal clearance on drug doses can be made. This is particularly important in the current aging population, whereby decreased renal function is a natural consequent of old age, as is the increased prevalence of constipation associated with drug treatments and lifestyle changes. Considering 60% of prucalopride is excreted unchanged in urine, renal excretion is one of the most important routes of elimination for prucalopride. This further validates the importance of this study in the selected population. Although prucalopride is not currently approved for use in men, this pharmacokinetic study involved both men and women. This enables results of the study to be applicable for potential future use in men. (4) Briefly describe the study design including information about the dosage and the route of administration. DATA When light passes from one medium to another, air to water for example, part of the light is reflected at the boundary and part of the light gets bent as it passes on to the new medium. The bending of this light is referred to as refraction. A sketch of this is shown below. In this example, n1 is the index of refraction for air. The index of refraction for water is n2. According to Snell s Law: n1 sin О = n2 sin П† n(air)=1 Note: The angles are measured with respect to the normal (vertical). Part of the scientific method is to develop laboratory procedures that test a hypothesis and answer a scientific question. Therefore the mass of the unknown object could be predicted based on the analysis of data through the use of linear regression form. This is because the scared plots of the second graph created best resemble a straight line, meaning that the unknown mass is predictable and can be placed on the graph. An R2 value of one or close to one means the relation is fit and present. The mass of the unknown object was determined through the use of the linear regression equation of the second graph. The period of this unknown mass was squared and then inserted this number into the period squared equation. The mass was determined to be between about 330g. Like in any other experiment there is room for error, this room for error is present since the results are based of numbers that aren t completely exact. • 51. Martin Luther And The Reformation Thesis Statement The purpose of my paper will reflect the life of Martin Luther during the Reformation period and the changes brought forth as a result of his teachings and writings. Luther s findings not only transformed his own actions, but change the thought process of millions. The study of Martin Luther is the key that unlocks the background of the Protestant Reformation and it s origins. Introduction Research on Martin Luther was chosen to demonstrate the importance of his works, and decisions that not only fueled his purpose, but changed the church for generations to come. Martin Luther propelled himself into his work and was not afraid of voicing his often strong opinion of the Catholic Church. Luther s Ninety Five Theses provides readers his opinion of the church, calling out failures, and known corruption of leaders within. Foundation Martin Luther was born on November 10th, 1483 in Eisleben, Germany. He was the son of Hans and Margareth Luder. His father worked in a copper mine, and through years of hard work they became fruitful. Through his own personal struggles Hans Luder did not want the same life for beloved Martin. Education and faith played a huge role during Luther s adolescent years as he learned Latin and law and continue to excel in these areas well into his adulthood. This development would continue to shape Luther s beliefs and principles. In the early 1500s, Luther was able to continue his studies near Erfurt. At the young age of eighteen ... In Cattell s early career he was a research assistant to Charles Spearman, who developed a way of approaching statistics called factor analysis, which involved grouping commonly appearing factors in sets of data. Raymond Cattell, was a British chemist, statistician and psychologist with a fascination for human personality and behavior who disagreed with Eyesenck s view that personality could be understood by looking at two or three dimensions. In the 1940s, Cattell began what was to be many years of research into personality traits. Frustrated with personality theories that only seemed to describe separate aspects of personality, he set out to try to identify all of the traits that made up a person. He was influenced by the devastating effects of the First and Second World Wars, and hoped that if human nature could be better understood, it would bring mankind closer to solving global political and economic problems. In order to scientifically establish a formal framework for understanding personality, Cattell used a statistical technique known as factor analysis. • 58. The Code Of Ethics And The Law Of The Public Health,... Engineering is a vastly renowned and studied field, stemming from the rise of empires. This field has such a wide area of study that there is no one engineer in the same, all are professionals in their own field. In each one of these fields, there is a certain code of ethics that must be lived and maintained, by the engineer themselves. There are lists of the different ethicsmodels, but to list a few: there is Rule Based Utilitarianism, Duty Ethics, Rights Ethics, Virtue Ethics, and the NCEES ethical code. All of these individual codes clearly states, and sets guidelines for the engineers to follow and live by. These ethics set the standard and obligations that engineers and their partners have to their clients, society, and themselves. According to the National Society of Professional Engineers, the services provided by engineers require honesty, impartiality, fairness, and equity, and must be dedicated to the protection of the public health, safety, and welfare (NSPE, 2015). This means that engineers need to work towards providing all customers, including society as a whole, the best work and proficient product they possibly can. To ensure that each project they work on is working correctly, they must properly test and design said product, to shed light on any future issues they may encounter. The war affected Heller more than he was willing to admit at the beginning of his career; however, the more he wrote, the more he was able to deal with his demons.
