What attracted European imperialism to Africa to Asia in...
Mortimer Chambers et al define imperialism as a European state s intervention in and continuing
domination over a non European territory. During the Scramble for Africa in the late nineteenth
century, the most powerful European nations desired to conquer, dominate and exploit African
colonies with the hope of building an empire. According to Derrick Murphy, in 1875 only ten
percent of Africawas occupied by European states. Twenty years later only ten percent remained
unoccupied. There were several factors which attracted European imperialists to Africa. There
were opportunities for profitable investment and trade. Raw materials, which Africa possessed in
abundance, were also desired. A cheap source of labour was required as it would... Show more

The British wanted to link their possessions in Southern Africa with their territories in East
Africa, and these two areas with the Nile basin. Obtaining the Sudan was vital to the fulfillment
of these ambitions especially since Egypt was already under British control. This red line
through Africa was made famous by Cecil Rhodes and Lord Milner who advocated for a Cape to
Cairo empire linking by rail the Suez Canal to the Southern part which possessed many minerals.
According to Brian Levack, there was also a certain level of nationalist competition. The
unification of Germany upset the balance of power in Europe. In this climate of tension,
governments looked towards enforcing national strength. The newly formed nations of Italy and
Germany now sought empires outside Europe as a means of gaining power and prestige within
Europe. In the nineteenth century, a German historian Henrich con Treitschke stated All great
nations in the fullness of their strength have desired to set their mark on barbarian lands and
those who fail to participate in this great rivalry will pay a pitiable role in time to come. Under
the leadership of Bismarck, Germany soon embarked on a quest of expansionism. Bismarck s
distrust of England under Gladstone was one of the reasons he decided to do this. Germany
became engaged in an arms race with Great Britain and it

The Black Of Black Crimes
Black crimes in America are caused solely by the actions of black people. The previous statement
is said throughout both rural and urban American, and it is based off of uneducated and racist
ideologies. The criminal actions of blacks are partly contributed to their own decision making,
though the same holds true for criminals of all races. However, black people in America have the
longest lasting and most destructive history of racismtowards them in modern American history, and
this has led them to be the most poverty stricken racein America. Black people in America are the
most poverty stricken race by percentage, with 27.2 percent of the racial population in 2012 and
2013 (U.S. Census). However, in order to discuss why nearly one third of blacks are in poverty,
then the history of racism towards blacks must be discussed. Additionally, how racist actions of
oppression has placed many blacks in a degrading, and devaluing situation that continually
promotes poverty and crime shall be discussed too (Grabbidon and Grenne, 177). From 1641 up
until 1865 Africans were captured by slavers and sold into slaveryon Southern American
plantations. British colonials viewed them as no more than personal property, as the Africans
were not under British rule and were not protected under British law (History). Thus, during this
time period blacks in slavery did not hold any rights at all (History). Those who were able to buy
their freedom were treated as second class

Descriptive Essay On The Park
I was walking towards the park my father always took me to do my project when I was little, Let
me go! I heard a girl scream.
I tried to see where it was coming from, as I looked across the green grass wondering if it was my
imagination or not. The grass had been recently mowed and the trees had animals on them as if the
whole city was perfect. I heard it again, Please let me go!
I decided to put my textbooks and the designing journal down on the bench. In the city we live
in, there is no crime so nobody would steal my stuff. I tried to hear where the scream came from.
As I walked around the whole park, the sound grew fainter. I found where the sound was coming
from. I hid behind a big, green, and growing tree. She looked tired but strong. The guards didn t
look happy. It was rare seeing them since there is no crime in Yasashi. They had her in handcuffs.
She scanned the park. We locked eyes. Her eyes were a beautiful shade of purple. Her eyes were a
like mine. Except my eyes were a little brown and slowly turned purple. In Yasashi it was
common for people to have brown eyes. So it was rare seeing another person like me who had
purple eyes. So it was rare seeing another person with purple eyes. She was dressed in a blue
muscle tee with black leather skinny jeans. Her hair is blue ombre hair and short, it complimented
her purple eyes.

d.Mediating.
Power point 11
If you are having trouble understanding this variable, you are exactly where you are supposed
to be. Hopefully, my explanation will help you! A mediating variable explains the relationship
between the two other variables. As an example, let s consider the relation between social class
(SES) and frequency of breast self exams (BSE). Age might be a moderator variable, in that the
relation between SES and BSE could be stronger for older women and less strong or nonexistent
for younger women. Education might be a mediator variable in that it explains why there is a
relation between SES and BSE. When you remove the effect of education, the relation between SES
and BSE disappears.
Power point 12
While researchers will never state that one variable caused another variable to occur, as there are
so many variables to consider in social science research.
However, we do use the term causal relationship or cause and effect relationship , where the cause
has to precede the effect and the relationship cannot be explained by any other factors that are being
considered.
Power point 13
Here s an overview of the different types of variables and their functions.

Margaret Atwood s Oryx And Crake
In Margaret Atwood s Oryx and Crake, she describes a frightening dystopian futuristic society that
consists of the compounds and the pleeblands. The compounds are home to wealthier class, that
work in industrial plants during the day and enjoy the shopping malls and fancy dining at night.
The pleeblands are nearly the exact opposite. Snowman, the main character of the novel and former
inhabitant of the compounds, describes them as disease infested, drug ridden ghettos. These two
communities could not be further separated. Unfortunately, it appears as if Margaret Atwoods
dystopia is upon us. In Slavoj Zizek s Violence, we are reminded of the time period just several
years ago right after Hurricane Katrina, when the city of New Orleans... Show more content on

Zizek is trying to address a systemic problem of objective violence that is a result of global
isolation and division. He writes on page 102, This new racism of the developed is in a way
much more brutal than the previous ones: its implicit legitimisation is neither naturalist (the
natural superiority of the developed West) nor any longer cultural (we in the West want to
preserve our cultural identity), but unabashed economic egotism. The fundamental divide is one
between those included in the sphere of (relative) economic prosperity and those excluded from
it (102). This quote perfectly describes the global epidemic that we now face, where the global
community is so fixated on building walls and turning our heads to those who do not fit our
mold. What is more frightening, however, is that economic egotism along with racial and
sociological isolation is happening on a domestic basis. It s not as simple as national pride and
desire to keep our cultural intact, as Zizek notes. Rather, in the United States, seen first hand in
New Orleans, there is a blatant rejection for those who are not on the same economic and social
platform as ourselves(102). In Oryx and Crake, Margaret Atwood illustrates a fantastical world
with compounds and pleeblands. Over the course of the book the reader is given many images of
the pleeblands. A good example is when

David Lurie Quotes
As I concluded this novel the first thing that came to mind was wow and then the fuck? . David
Lurie represents to me all that is wrong with the world and how it effects others around him. See
I wanted David to have karma show him the error of his ways however I did not want Lucy to be

came about Melanie flush through my mind. She is someone s child and the way she was treated
by David is set in stone. However he did not rape Melanie, Lucy was raped and that changed her.
By the end of the novel the two characters of Lucy and David transformed. When David first sees
Lucy she is comfortable, happy and in her own comfort zone. By the end she is in a loveless
marriage with a man and not comfortable in her own skin. David started off as a confident
reckless man who did not care for anyone s needs than his own. By becoming an euthanizer to

I woke up to my alarm clock and mom banging on my door. The time is 7:50 and I am late for my
first day to my new school. Unsure of what to do when I pull up to the school I ask my mom to
move back to my old home. I walk into my new class with all eyes on me for being the new kid
hoping the teacher seats me in the back of the classroom for a quick getaway when the bell
rings. Unfortunately I was seated dead center, with an icebreaker activity. I met a new friend, his

see how everything runs. Not to long before summer starts and I was hoping the days went by
fast. After school was finally over it was time to go home. The first day of a new school was not
as bad. I received a text message from my scout master saying the meeting starts at 7. Excited for
the meeting to start I tried doing keeping myself busy. It came time for the meeting and got my
shirt freshly ironed with my slacks. We were shown to dress up proper young men by our scout
master. I walked into the door and saw everyone already sitting at the round table talking about our

grounds picking up trash. Then the topic of our summer camp came up and we were all excited.

me, what if one of my campers is hurt? The thought of it made me ache, I tried to ignore the
feeling but it was nothing short of impossible, my campers are in danger. I told myself I was
overreacting, there s no way that out of the people who were getting hurt, one of my campers
could actually be one of them. Then we received an email: We are not sure on details but we

Radioactive Waste Of Radioactive Wastes
INTRODUCTION
Radioactive waste contains radioactive substances, which are used for the production of nuclear
power and in other scientific fields such as nuclear fission or nuclear technology (Hidaka, Yuan, and
ebrary, 2012). Currently, although the use of radioactive materials has provided great benefits to
society, the radioactive waste issue has been widely discussed in terms of being a huge problem that
may affect natural environmental systems, and also human health (Ojovan Knovel, 2011).
According to Sartori (2013), efficient radioactive waste management systems are needed to provide
safe isolation from the contact with the ecosystem as long as necessary to reduce effects on
biological systems; and it involves many steps such as treatment, conditioning, transportation,
storage and disposal of all categories of radioactive wastes, including administrative, operational and
safety related actions (The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation ANSTO,
2011). It is known that radioactive waste management activities have to follow current regulations,
which are directly related to waste characterisation that involves radioactive waste classification.
Due to the importance of radioactive waste, this report addresses a literature review of the
management of radioactive waste.
RADIOACTIVE WASTE CLASSIFICATION
Currently, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been used as the main
organization for developing the classification of radioactive waste.

Drug Problem In Brazil
Brazil, fifth largest country in the world, with a population of approximately 200 million people,
also has one of the largest disparities between the rich and poor. Profound poverty means family
disintegration due to death by AIDS, substance abuse, violence and breakup become more
prevalent leading to a growing problem. This problem is the number of children who begin to
claim the streets as their home. Life is hard on the streets, where none of the safeguards of the
society are in place, and these young people see little hope of change. As a result, drug and alcohol
abuse becomes normalized in the child street communities and children become at risk for a number
of health problems. To counteract this trend and rehabilitate children, local educational institutions
need to be established to create a safe zone for this children and program to address the risks of
drug use and encourage healthy habits.

Third Person Point Of View In Cujo By Stephen King
In the story, Cujo, the author Stephen King writes a thriller story about a mother, Donna
Trenton, and her four year old boy, Tad, fighting to survive while stranded in their car in the
middle of a heat wave, with help nowhere to be found. The mother and son are surrounded by a
St. Bernard named Cujo, that was bitten by a wild animal and has become rabid, out for blood.
Stephen King uses third person point of view to reveal Donna s thoughts and emotions to create
suspense. The author uses third person point of view by using pronouns like he, she, it or they.

from under her in the loose gravel, and she was only able to recover by slamming her arm down

shut. She had shut it herself, automatically, after getting out. The chromed button below the
handle suddenly seemed dazzlingly bright, winking arrows of sun into her eyes. I ll never be
able to get that door open and get in and get it shut, she thought, and the choking realization that
she might be about to die rose up in her. Not enough time. No way. The author makes the readers
feel nervous and adds tension when Donna freezes up, thinks negatively, falls and bumps onto
many things. This creates tension when Cujo is casing Donna while she is staggering all over
the place and the readers feel as if Cujo will spring onto Donna at any moment because she is so
slow. When the author says that the dog was looking at her, not at a woman who just happened to
be trapped in her car with her little boy, but at Donna Trenton, as if he had just been hanging

The Second Language ( L2 ) Learners
The second language(L2) learners often struggle to identify possible grammars in their second
languages. In particular, they fail to form a sentence with an appropriate functional morpheme
(Lardiere, 1998; White, 2003). A functional morpheme refers to a morpheme which performs some
kind of grammatical function, playing a role in lexical change. It consists of the function words in
the language such as definite markers. The inflection of a definite marker, in other words,
definiteness, distinguishes a nominal phrase (NP) between identifiable and non identifiable. That
is, whether or not, a referent is identifiable or previously introduced in the discourse. In addition to
identifiability, definiteness is expected to incorporate other notion,... Show more content on

This paper mostly analyzes the issue of cross linguistic variation of definiteness with sample data
and examples from English and Japanese.
Dryer (2013) classifies definiteness into five categories. The first type is the languages in which
definite article are independent, and are distinct from demonstrative words. This type is used
commonly in Western European, Oceanic and Mesoamerican languages (Dryer, 2013; Schroeder,
2006). English is categorized in this type of languages.
In English, the grammatical element is encoded with regard to a contrast between a definite article
the, and indefinite articles a/an in the language. The type of noun (count versus mass) is also a
factor: indefinite mass nouns and indefinite plural countable nouns can appear without articles, i.e.
as bare nouns. Furthermore, other determiners in English are consist of demonstratives,
possessives, quantifiers, and cardinal numbers, some of which are definite and indefinite. The
distribution of articles in English is presented in (1). Examples involving singular count nouns are
illustrated in (2). Note that these singular count nouns cannot be bare, as illustrated in (2e).

Notes On Database Management Systems Essay
Enhancement in Database Management Systems By: Nipun Jain Computer science department
Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon, Haryana, India
Abstract
This paper is based on the database systems. And will result in providing the whole new information
about that. Basically, database systems are the computer applications which interacts with the user
and help in maintaining the work by making them in synchronization and in a relative format
sometimes. Database systems are also help in keeping the records of utilities and securing them for
ages. This paper will tell you whole new achievements which can be done with the help of using the
database with its correct efficiencies.
Introduction
A database is an synchronized collection of the data. It is the collection of schemes, tables,
queries, reports, views and other objects. The data is typically organized to model aspects of
reality in a way that supports processes requiring information, such as modeling the availability of
rooms in hotels in a way that supports finding a hotel with vacancies.
A database management system (DBMS) is a computer software application that interacts with the
user, other applications, and the database itself to capture and analyze data. A general purpose
DBMS is designed to allow the definition, creation, querying, update, and administration of
databases. Well known DBMSs

Theme Of Animalism In Animal Farm
I read a book called, Animal Farm written by George Orwell. The book is about animals on a
farm who are overworked, and aren t treated well. Then, an insurgency made up of animals with
pigs as their leaders, rebel against Mr.Jones (owner of the farm) by driving him off his farm. The
animals try to make the perfect life for themselves, but that doesn t go as planned. Animal farm
then, starts to fail. The farm fails because of the pigs not being fair to the other animals, and the
animalsbeing too dumb to realize it. The other animals made mistakes, by not speaking up when
they thought something was wrong. Animalism starts to fail because pigs start to make power
grabs that screws the perfect life vision the animals have. . These reasons and many more are why...

One reason animalism fails, is because of power grabs by animals. There are many examples of
this throughout the book. One power grab that failed animalism, was when the pigs take the
milk and the apples for themselves. So it was agreed without further argument that the milk and
windfall apples (and also the main crop of apples when they ripened) should be reserved for the
pigs alone. (P.g 36) This is unfair because the pigs being selfish, but they are the leader, it
immediately grants them permission to do so. This shows why animalism fails because the pigs
don t do anything for the wellbeing of animal farm, they do things only for themselves. Another
example of a power grab is when Napoleon (a pig) takes the puppies so that they will obey and
protect him. It happened that Jessie and Bluebell had both whelped soon after the hay harvest,
giving birth between them to nine sturdy puppies. As soon as they were weaned, Napoleon took
them away from their mothers, saying that he would make himself responsible for their education.
He took them up into a loft which could only be reached by a

The Cost Of Goods Sold For Medtronic
Ratios If an investor is curious about how much of the market share a specific company
possesses, they have to add up the total sales revenue for the particular market and divide the
specific company s revenue by the total revenue for the industry to decipher their market share.
For example, Johnson Johnson possesses $27.43 billion in total revenue; GE Healthcare
generated $18.29 billion in revenue, Siemens Healthcare earned $17.54 billion, Medtronic made
$16.20 billion in total revenue, and Baxter International gained $14.20 billion in revenue. The
total revenue for the top 5 medical device manufacturers is $93.66 billion dollars. Medtronic s total
revenue of $16.20 billion divided by $93.66 billion dollars = .1729 or 17.3% of the total... Show

from $15.8 billion in 2010 to $16.2 billion in 2013. The pay out of its dividends has also increased

Grecian Couch The Grecian couch, otherwise known as a Kline in Greece, is a blending of a
bed, couch, and sofa. Its functions is not only limited to providing a seat for sleeping and
reposing, but also for reclining in when eating food. The long frame of the couch provides just
the right length for a petite lady to repose in. Also the top of the frame is usually fixed with
interlaced cords and on the interlacing; a mattress is placed on top of it with covers and a single

This is where Hugh Finlay discovered the Empire motif and brought it back to America where
with John helped develop quickly a familiarity and comfort with the neoclassical idiom that was
readily apparent in the field. They became the first firm to readily advertise painted classical
furniture with great success. The trip to Europe and back by the Finlay brothers was one of the
first Americans who brought the Grecian Roman revival to the public. After the War of 1812, a
sense of renewal of a better time became a distinct interest to designers as well as the public. With
the help of the Finlay brothers, there was a civility and sophistication in the late neoclassical ideals
(Greene, 122) that mirrored the continued success of the newborn America. Thus from it grew the
early empire style furniture in America, which featured elegant and delicate furniture with waterleaf
carving being one of the favorite treatments like the Grecian couch. The Grecian style in which the
Finlay brothers pulled from was perfected in the 5th century B.C. and it stayed as a furniture with
curving lines and elegant simplicity till the emergence of the American empire style that pulled
directly from it in the early 1800s. The height to the American Empire style furniture

The, Pastel Blues, By Nina Simone
Nina Simone s 8th studio album, Pastel Blues, is an album featuring a fusion of sistering genres:
blues, jazz, soul, folk, and gospel. Nina, being the brilliant arranger she was, is known for her
ability to blend these genres into her signature sound. A sound most struggle to classify due to its
avant garde nature. She got her start in music by playing the pianoin church. One evening her
church had a recital where her talents were recognised. Which lead to her starting piano lessons.
Nina and her teacher s goal was for her to become the first black classical pianist. However after
being rejected from school for being black, her dream died and she had to pick up jobs at clubs
playing piano and later singing. From there she never stopped singing. As her fame grew in pop
music she became more depressed. Later in her life she discovered she was riddled with mental
illness. Manic depression being one of these illness.
Nina Simone was a troubled woman but she was a gifted one. Simone was often looked at as
difficult while others would say she was just extremely honest. She was a very controversial
character in history along being a strong political figure. She was one of the well known civil
rights activist along Lorraine Hansberry, Dr. King, and Malcolm X. She made it known that she
was not non violent. When she met Dr. King for the first time, she walked up to him and said I m
not non violent! He replied, kind of ticked, saying That s okay sister. You don t have to be!

Taking a Look at Writs of Habeas Corpus
September 11th was a day that was burned into the conscience of the American identity. The
response of the Bush Administration was to launch a full scale military operation against terrorist
entities, in particular Al Qaeda and their foreign supporters. This series of operations, became what
was to be known as the Global War on Terror . Subsequently, the invasion of Afghanistan and other
military operations resulted in the capture of high value targets with known connections to terrorist
organizations. While these events this had dramatic ramifications on geo political landscape,
American courts were also given the unenviable task of determining if those captured by the U.S
government were entitled to the rights and privileges enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. The
Supreme Court in particular faced a particular set of problems in confronting this issue. Precedent
on the matter had been established over fifty years earlier under far different circumstances that
were unable to reflect today s modern challenges. Secondly, the Court needed to determine whether
they had the jurisdictional authority to accept writs of habeas corpusfrom detainees held in
Guantanamo Bay Cuba. Historically, Lincoln s unilateral suspension of habeas corpus during the
Civil War was the first instance in which the courts had a chance to review the indefinite detention
of citizens of the United States. The detention of John Merryman, a southern sympathizer who

The Hurt Locker By Film Maker Kathryn Bigelow
The Hurt Locker
The Hurt Locker by film maker Kathryn Bigelow conveys the theme of the movie at the very
beginning. The theme is a simple quote by Chris Hedges which states, The rush of battle is often a
potent and lethal addiction, for war is a drug. (Hedges) The film s greatest achievement is its ability
to communicate the underlying truth of this quote consistently throughout the movie. Sergeant First
Class William James, played by James Renner, captures this message through his job description,
dialogue, and demeanor, which is presented his obstinate/erratic behaviors. The creative selective
style of slow motion effects, instability of camera movement, and the intense sound/visual effects
clearly evokes the chaos and confusion associated with any drug/addiction. The location, scenery
and lighting contribute to the feel of realism. Furthermore, to truly grasp the meaning of this quote
by Chris Hedges it would be imperative to have some knowledge /understanding of the mental
struggle as well as the consequences associated with war. The insightful dirty truth/reality that war
is a drug and the rush of battle is the addiction is communicate is throughout the movie. (Dashiell)
Kathryn Bigelow distinct ability to introduce the audience two types of terrorists is remarkable.
A terrorist which is easily recognizable and another terrorists, that is, hidden deep within the mind
of any soldier who has experienced this lethal drug/potent addiction called war.

Georgia s Craft Beer Industry
Problem Statement From the end of prohibition in 1933 to the turn of the new millennium,
Georgia s craft beer industry had seen more failure than success. Over a 67 year span, 9 of the 14
microbreweries to operate in the state failed. Was it the cost and availability of big beer and
product loyalty that caused this to happen?
But in 2013, Georgia s craft beer industry took a drastic turn. Microbreweries were opening at an
exponential rate. That year, Creative Loafing, an alternative news weekly, reported eight
microbreweries opening in the city of Atlanta, alone. Georgia had entered into a craft beer boom.
Today, there are 31 microbreweries operating in Georgia, and 24 more in planning, bringing the
total to 55 of these small production breweries. What could have changed to cause an historically
failed industry to boom in such a short period of time?
Millennials.
According to U.S. Census data, Georgia s population of Millennials, defined as those born between
1980 and 2000, significantly increased between 2010 and 2014, the generation growing from
15.3% of the population in 2010 to 26.61% of the population in 2014. (Pew Research, U.S. Census).
Earlier this year, Forbes reported that the group with the most purchasing power in the United
States had shifted from the Baby Boomers to the Millennials. It is estimated that Millennials in the
U.S. alone will spend around $200 billion annually by 2017.
The positive relationship between the population of Millennials in

The Apology Of Socrates Analysis
According to Dr. Dave Yount, many Athenians still regret their decision to put Socrates to death to
this day. Is this feeling of regret acceptable? This paper will explore the details surrounding the trial
of Socrates and whether or not he was treated fairly throughout the sentencing process. In The
Apologyof Socrates, Platodescribes the charges against Socrates as not believing in the gods
recognized by the state, introducing supernatural beings, and corrupting the youth (246. 9 12). By
considering Socrates impiety, internal betrayal of the city, and arrogance and hypocritical words, it
should be understood that the Athenians were just in their verdict and punishment of Socrates.
It is argued that the charges brought against Socrates

Cone beam computed tomography

Dental Assisting 125
Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a specialized type of x ray examination used to
create 3 dimensional images of the head and neck structure. After attending a lecture on this
technology I was greatly interested to learn more. For this research paper I wanted to compare and
contrast cone beam CT with other more traditional types of radiographic exam equipment.
Since their first discovery and usage in the 1890 s, X ray machines have seen many developments
and improvements. One of the biggest advances has been the creation of machines which can
produce a fully three dimensional image. When most people think of dental x rays, ... Show more

This mode of examination allows the healthcare provider to obtain a much greater amount of
information then is available with more traditional forms of x ray examination. Because most x
rays are a 2 dimensional representation of a 3 dimensional object, many important details and
subtle differences are lost in the translation. With cone beam CT you are able to see different
structures from multiple vantage points. These characteristics make it the choice of many
speciality dental practices, in particular oral surgery. While it s cost does make it a major
investment, cone beam CT is an excellent technology which is able to do things which other x ray
units cannot. I look forward to hopefully getting some more hands on experience with this

Bipolar Disorder And Major Depressive Disorder
Moods are feelings we all go through. Many different things can affect our moods. We can be
super happy or super down by anything instantly. If we were to accomplish something, get a
good grade, or a raise that will instantly change our mood and bring us to a happy state. If we
were to fail, lose a job, get a ticket that might make us go into a down or depressive mood. It is
very normal for us to have our moods affected by day to day life events. People who experience
mood disorders get affected longer and more severe to where it affects their lives so badly they
can t function well. Even if things are going well some people still get depressed, or when
something they encounter bothers them. People who experience extreme mood swings suffer
drastically with their emotions. Their are two types of mood disorders: bipolar disorder and major
depressive disorder. Bipolar disorder is also known to be called manic depressive disorder.
Research shows that bipolar disorder is genetic. Bipolar disorder has two stages that people deal
with, the manic stage and depressive stage. These stages can each last from hours, days, to even
years. Stress plays a role in these stages. These stages go from an intense happy stage to a deep
derisive stage. People suffer with elevated moods and personality change, and this tends to affect
their friends and family around them. Medication and psychotherapy both help treat this disorder.
In the manic phase people tend to be extremely happy and work and

The pixar movie is adorable and entertaining and adds to theories about fish s memories, a
persistent myth that fish can only remember something for 3 to 5 seconds, Dr. Kevin Warburton
has been studying fish behavior for the past 15 years at Charles Sturt University and he says that
the theory is nothing but Rubbish! . Warburton says that fish are sophisticated and that fish can

for months and once a fish has been caught on a hook and escape they are able to avoid hooks for
at least a year, for example about a year after the salmon is born they will follow the river to the

North And South By Elizabeth Gaskell Essay
North and south is considered as the significant piece of Victorian literature, written by Elizabeth
Gaskell. Elizabeth Gaskell was a novelist and short story writer. Her stories usually have a
contemporary attitude she emphasized more on the women s role, complex and realistic female
characters. North and south is considered as her best known work .It features a strong lead female
,a mature love story and relevant social and political explanation about industrialization and class
conflict present in mid 19th century in England. Through, North and south, Elizabeth Gaskell
challenges the limiting genderroles of the Victorian era, by giving her heroin , Margaret both the
feminine qualities of virtue and selflessness and Masculine qualities of independence and action .
Gaskell perfectly balances her heroin between feminine and the masculine world as to not to
appear unwomanly and subtly influence the readers and call for changing gender norms. During
Victorian era novelist had to develop ways to avoid posing as threats to the order of the society .
Something which even make the look anti feminist, but still many of female writers of that period

The Ethical Requirements Protecting Confidential Information
The ethical requirements protect confidential information and only disclose such information as
mandated by law or where committed by law for a valid purpose (APA, 2005). In this particular
case, the social worker chose not to break confidentiality without her clients consent because there
was not a valid purpose in doing so according to her code of ethicsin her profession. Had she
complied with the court order, she would have gone against her professions ethical code and could
have faced punishment and possible loss of licensing. The justice system could not force the social
worker to testify because there was no imminent danger involved. When law and ethical standard
separate, confidentialitysituations become very complex. On one hand, a person could not fault a
social worker therapist for exposing confidential communication if ordered by the court. On the
other hand, a person could reasonably question the correctness of violating the law if believed
that in doing so they are behaving ethically. In the example of this case, the social worker was
required by law to disclose confidential information regarding a client during the course of their
social worker relationship. The social worker claimed that the law and ethical practices
conflicted, making it appear that the ethical practices in question seem illegal. The social worker
choose civil disobedience at her own risk, following the code of ethics provided by her practice,

The Case of Kelo v. City of New London
Eminent Dominant According to the facts, it seems that the sentiment of John (Cougar)
Mellencamp s hit in the 1984 fueled the controversies basing on the court s decision on June 23,
2005. The ruling stated that the local government or federal government was entitled to exercise
eminent dominant rules to enable them acquire private propertyand utilize it for purposes of
economic development. Eminent domainalso referred to as condemnation, is the act of taking
private property and making it public property by the local governing authority, state, or federal
government (Bradley 65). The private property taken away is converted to public property for
public use. With reference to the case of the Kelo v. city of New London, the court ruled that the
government should take private property through eminent domain for public use. This is due to the
provisions of Fifth Amendment of the U.S constitution. New London, Connecticut, could exercise
eminent domain for economic development. New London, Connecticut, was experiencing hard
economic times majorly due to the closure of the U.S. Naval Undersea Warfare Center, which
was the major employer in the region. This prompted a decrease in the tax base and population in
general. This made the city leaders desperate for some development in the city s economy.
Afterwards, a pharmaceutical giant Pfizer started to construct a facility used for research in the

E Voting And Its Effect On Voting
Introduction
E voting is an e government concept that uses the Internet to allow people to vote. The use of e
voting is usually applied by countries and companies. In companies, this use of e voting can be
used in shareholder meetings or other instances where it is not physically possible for all
individuals with a vote to be present.
E voting is a new concept that has recently been used by countries that are not willing to dedicate
the necessary funds to provide paper votes. The use of e voting eliminates the use of paper and
ensures that voter turnout will be higher as it will eliminate issues with travelling to the voting
venue and waiting in any lines that may occur. In addition, the process of tallying votes will be far
faster since e voting will eliminate the manual counting of votes as well as issues such as the vote
counting machine malfunctioning. E votes will be counted using software designed to tally votes.
The concept of e voting has been analyzed to ensure that it is a fair process. The fairness of this
new type of voting will be critical to its acceptance. However, there is a portion of the population
which feels that the system can be easily manipulated and argue that the Internet is vulnerable to
hacker attacks, something that can lead to an invalid and unfair result. With advanced technology,
it should be relatively easy for IT experts to devise ways that will ensure that the system will not be
hacked.

relationship, there are now defined strategies and objectives that both parties are tackling
together. This is a new initiative for KKLC, and one that is necessary to foster the creation of a
synergistic approach to mutual growth. If each of the five sale team members have eight
personal objectives, strategies and action plans and each establishes eight additional objectives
and strategies with two sales managers who we are assigned to from the licensee side, as a total

Renaissance Era Research Paper
The Renaissance Era is a period approximately dated from the 1460 s to the 1600 s. It was a
period where reason was celebrated and advanced over metaphysics and mysticism. The general
conclusion when Renaissance comes to mind always seems to center around the growth of Art and
Science. The topic of the contributions made to Psychology by the citizens of the RenaissanceEra is
often overlooked, and not many are privy to the role Psychology played in the development of the
Era by perfecting scientific methods and researching reason, thought, and mental illness. The
Renaissance Era was viewed as the rebirth. It was a period where people went back to their more
open minded method of inquiry that had characterized early Greek philosophy. It was... Show more

Though the Renaissance Era is thought to have played a major role in giving birth to the modern
secular life, it began by looking backwards instead of forward to the future with the works of
Francesco Petrarch 1304 1374, who was an influential philosopher whose writings are said to have
marked the beginning of the Renaissance. Petrarch had particular interest in freeing the human
spirit, which he believed was held in the confines of medieval traditions and opted for a more
personal religion based on personal feelings and personal faith. Martin Luther, not to be confused as
Civil Rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was an Augustinian Priest and biblical scholar who
did not agree with what he had witnessed Christianity turn into. His view of Christianity aligned
with the beliefs of St. Paul s and St. Augustine s than that of Aquinas. He believed everyone should
suffer the consequences of their sins, and that God was the only person any human being was
answerable to. The Renaissance was a paradoxical time. There was a growth of interest in human
potential coupled with human achievements, and simultaneously, there was also persecution, witch
hunting, superstition, exorcism, and

The Five Primary Types Of Ionizing Radiation
Ionizing radiation is a type of radiation that is able to disrupt atoms and molecules on which they
pass through, giving rise to ions and free radicals. It is made up of energetic subatomic particles,
ions or atoms moving at high speeds, and electromagnetic waves on the high energy end of the
electromagnetic spectrum. There are five primary types of Ionizing Radiation, Alpha Particles, Beta
Particles, Gamma Rays, X Rays and Neutrons. Alpha Particles are charged particles, which are two
neutrons and two protons. They have a very limited ability to penetrate other materials, because
they travel short distances and they have large mass. The only hazard that the caused is when they
are inhaled. Beta Particles are electrons or positrons, which are

Jacksonian Democrats Dbq Analysis
The Constitution has had many people who were guardians and people who were not throughout
the history of the United States. Reforms and major events under the administration of Jackson
were huge turning points in history. Women were starting to have a voice, property qualifications
died off, and the nullification crisis are examples. Although these reforms make it seem Jacksonian
democrats were guardians, Jacksonian democrats were not guardians of the United States
Constitution, political democracy, individual liberty, and the equality of economic opportunity.
With the dissipating property qualifications, Jackson did little to help others who needed rights
for which the Constitution was created. We hold these truths self evident that all men are created
equal (Doc. A). Yes, it does say all men, but Jackson did nothing to help men who needed it the
most. He did not help men such as blacks and native americans and did nothing about women s
rights. During his presidency, women were petitioning for rights and jobs besides factory workers,
stay at home mothers, and school teachers and yet he did nothing about it. Also, he did not help
workers who wanted labor unions. Instead, he stated that the employer has full control over them
and that it was illegal to form labor unions. Then there is the slaveryissue which no president had yet

Mill s Beliefs
The relationships between Dr. Andrey Yefimitch Ragin s and Mihail Averyanotch, Pedro
Paramo s and Dolores Preciado, and Elesin s and his new bride; all support Mill s position that
individuals may use impose their individual beliefs, such as their superiority, on others which
might prevent people from forming their own individuality. In Ward No. 6 by Anton Chekhov,
Dr. Ragin start out as being the controlling individual who imposes his beliefs on immortality and
superiority on Mihail. However, it seems as the story progresses, Mihail keeps trying to convince
Dr. Ragin to go to a mental hospital and will not leave Dr. Ragin alone because he believes that he
needs company. In Pedro Paramo by Juan Rulfo, Pedro keeps controlling Dolores behavior because
he believes that men are superior to women. In Death and the King s Horseman by Wole Soyinka,
Elesin controls his bride s behavior because he also believes that men are superior to women

their emissary to the land of the ancestors, and perhaps your warmth and youth brought new

Scott Sanders Use Of Metaphors In This Passage Annotation
Throughout this passage Scott Russell Sanders uses metaphors to persuade the readers to think
migration is not a helpful characteristic in human beings lives. You can see this by the metaphor,
The habit of our industry and commerce has been to force identical schemes onto differing
locales, as though the mind were a cookie cutter and the land were dough from the article
(Sanders 59). With this quote the author is trying to say cookie dough is like the land and we are
like a cookie cutter, that is why this is a metaphor because he is comparing us and the land to
another object. The author uses this quote to explain how migration has forced us to move
industries to lands that can not handle it. He relates cookie dough and us being the cookie

Basic Rules Of Evidence Are No Different For Electronic...
General Requirements for Admissibility Generally, the rules of evidence are no different for
electronic records than for paper records. Medical records are first subject to the hearsay rule,
which says that any statement made out of court by a person not currently testifying is not
admissible. However there are a number of exceptions to this rule, one of which is the Business
Records Rule. Medical records are considered business records. For any business record to be
admissible in a legal proceeding, it must be properly authenticated. In the case of medical records, a
sponsoring witness must normally testify that the medical record meets certain conditions. Usually
the sponsoring witness will be someone who knows enough about your medical record procedures
to testify about how they are created and maintained. Computerprint outs are often used when the
evidence is stored electronically. This is typical procedures for producing records from EHR or
other electronic data systems.
Evidence in Electronic Form While the basic rules of evidence are the same for paper and
electronic records, there are several important differences. Compared to paper records, most courts
consider electronic records to be more voluminous, more difficult to destroy, easily modified,
easily duplicated, potentially more expressive, and more readily available. As a consequence, strict
new rules were enacted in December 2006 requiring the preservation and disclosure of
electronically stored

The Tragelaphus Is The Second Largest Antelope Just Behind...
The Tragelaphus strepsiceros is the second largest antelope just behind the giant Eland. With
strips down its back and large spiral horns around three ft. in length make the kudu easily
distinguishable. Males tend to be much larger than females, ranging from 200 850 pounds,
reaching heights of around five feet and lengths almost eight feet long. Females are much smaller,
weighing 260 460 lbs. standing around four feet and lengths six seven feet. With them being that
size they seem to not have a large number of predators; lions, leopards, hyenas, wild dogs as well
as humans for the larger ones, with the young s having predators from cheetahs, eagles, and snakes.

With gestation being 9 months, babies are usually seen between February and March when the
grass tends to be at its highest. Greater Kudus tend to have one calve, rarely two; mothers suckle
for 7 minutes at a time until calf is nearly 3 weeks old. Hiding for 2 weeks calves join the herd
but continue to lie out at least at night for an additional 4 5 weeks. Vocal communication is
common with a gruff bark is one of the loudest noises antelope make. Males grunt loudly when
rutting and fighting, with a suppressed whine during courtship. The greater kudu does have a SSP
with Dennis Charlton as the SSP and studbook coordinator. The main goal for the greater kudu is
to maximize genetic diversity in the captive population to maintain it as genetically diverse as
possible this provides for sustainable and cooperative zoo populations of kudu to avoid having to
pull animals from the wild. Originally establish as a PMP (Population Management Plan) in
1995 as kudu were not necessarily endangered in the wild but the AZA community wanted to
manage captive species for sustainability in the long run. The PMP title dropped off in 2012 and
all programs earned the SSP designation (just on different tiers based on sustainability
parameters.) The greater kudu has been in US zoos since the early 1900 s! There are certain
protected preserves where kudu would be relatively safe from poaching but they would

Analysis of Sherman Alexie s The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven and Smoke Signals
Sherman Alexie based on some short stories included in his book, The Lone Ranger and Tonto
Fistfight in Heaven, wrote the screenplay for the movie Smoke Signals. Both the movie and the
book portray problems that Indians had to deal with, and how they dealt with it. The book is far
more complex than the movie, showing a wider variation of characters facing different situations.
In the movie there is Victor, the main character, which tries to be the typical Indian, or maybe just a
typical man. He shows just hate towards his father, who left Victor and his mother alone and fled to
Phoenix. The picture Victor has about his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though she said so many good things about his father and about things he was afraid of,
Victor did not want to show any compassion for his father. It is like the story on Real Boys,

he would not show his emotions. However, after the accident, he began to think about his father. He
understood that no one could be perfect and he finally saw that he really loved his father.
The book has many short stories that sometimes are connected with others. The book focuses
mainly on showing the degraded Indian society, where everyone is or will be an alcoholic. The
story ?The Only Traffic Signal on the Reservation Doesn?t Flash Red Anymore? (Alexiep. 43 53)
is an example of how the author depicts alcoholism in the Indian society. In this story there is a
young Indian that could have a nice future playing basketball. However, he turns out to be just like
most of the other Indians in his reservation. He was committing crimes and then started drinking.
By reading the book, the author showed me was that the only thing left for the remaining Native
Americans is to drink, since everything they once had has disappeared. Most part of the book is
about Indians having bad experiences in life and facing the loss of their tradition.
The book and the movie are great examples of how a man, or boy, tries to behave like a man that

The Acceptance Of Oneself In Walt Whitman s A Song Of Myself
A Song of Myself; a poem of learning to love yourself A Song of Myself by Walt Whitman
portrays many things, but the most overwhelming message is the acceptance of oneself and their
surroundings. Whitman used this poem as an ode to life, to give a sense of liberation from
conformity. Whitman begins the poem with I celebrate myself, in order to show how the poem
is a celebration not only for life but of the acceptance for oneself. Not only does Whitman accept
himself, he urges others to do the same. In the poem he states, For every atom belonging to me as
good belongs to you. This sentence means that Whitman and the readers can both succeed, and
also means both figures can accept themselves. Whitman also talks about how easy it is to step
away from conformity and be himself, saying that the Me is nearest and easiest to him. In one of
the last sections of the poem, Whitman states that his essence has always been present in the
universe and always will be. Whitman talks about how the entire history of the universe has been

Whitman uses Grass to symbolize hope, growth and death. In the first section of the poem,
Whitman wants to look at a spear of grass. The grass is now representing weapons and danger in
the surroundings of one s life, but still overcoming the obstacles to love one. Also, grass was a
great representation of the resurrection of someone; the grass grows from the decomposition in
the soil. The way grass represents growth and death is exactly what the readers go through every
day. Death happens every day and grass represents that though death happens we can rebuild and
flourish. Grass can grow through the cracks of concrete; it can grow high and thick above the
decomposition below. It is representation of us in society and how we can overcome these
obstacles, the same way Whitman writes about and

Ancient Egypt Mummification
Ancient Egyptians are one of the most fascinated time period, which they experience some of the
earliest developments of writing, agriculture, religion, and central government. If I could go back in
time, it would be when the Ancient Egyptian began. The Ancient Egyptian started around 3100
B.C.E (Before Common Era). I want to learn their lifestyle, their religion and of course their
mummification. Its amazing how even back in the Ancients Egyptianstime they had makeup, but it
wasn t just women who wore makeup, men also whore makeup. The dramatic makeup imitated
the facial markings of Horus, god of sun. Horus was portrayed as a falcon. The smokey kohl
liner served both as a practical and ritualistic purposes. It was thought to repel flies, protect their
eyes from the sun rays, and to ward off infection. Egyptians mothers would apply kohl to the
eyes of their infants as soon after they were born believing it would strengthen the child and
preventing them from being cursed by the evil eye . They also used a type of Rouge to stain their
lips and cheeks. The makeup was achieved by the use of ochre. To make the ochre used for... Show

Is Society Becoming too Dependent on Computers Essay
The computer has been one of man s most influential inventions, paving the way for greater
achievements with time. Today, computers have become an essential component in fulfilling
everyday tasks in both our professional and personal lives. Computers are used to store vast
amounts of information, and even replace humans in factories throughout the world. We must now
ask ourselves, is this reliance on computers aiding the human mind in achieving its full potential or
rather replacing it and hindering our progress? Society has now become dependant on computers.

and soon there may be no need for us humans. Our sense of creativity and ingenuity is neither
needed nor utilized as we can easily use a computer application to achieve those once rare results

number of services, such as online chatting, social sites, and dating. Interactions between humans
have suffered with the use of these services. Those once memorable face to face moments have
been replaced by a few clicks of the keyboard and mouse. There are individuals who cannot
survive without the computer and in its absence suffer from depression and anxiety. In factories
around the world, there are computers doing the jobs of once hard working men and women. This
not only contributes to the unemployment rate, but also puts us in a position where we must
question the need for humans in the work place. Basic daily tasks are now unnecessarily achieved

Economies of scope refer to a reduction in unit cost based on the idea that the total cost of

Why Is Barnum Considered The Greatest Showman
Come one, come all to the greatest show on earth! Phineas Taylor Barnum is commonly known as
the greatest showman. However, his diabolical actions are frequently overlooked. From public
humiliation and dehumanization to inhumane treatment of animals to deceptive advertising,
Barnum was certainly not the picture of inclusion and amazement that historians paint him to be.
Because of P. T. Barnum
s dehumanization of people, mistreatment of animals, and deceptive
advertisement, he should not be considered the greatest showman.
Many historians consider Barnum the greatest showman. In their opinion he brought things into the
public eye which would normally never have been seen jugglers, unusual people, opera singers,
exotic animals, and many other spectacles. He didn t invent the circus; he reinvented it and made it

and presented them all as interesting and different from the common man. The belief among
historians is that Barnum exhibited these eclectic collections of people in order to try unite a
divided and racist country. Not only do historians believe the Barnum used humans to improve his
show, but the animals he used also enhanced his extraordinary show. The feats he forced his
animals to do were dangerous, yet incredibly exciting. Barnum trained one of his horses,

Peeling Back the Layers of being Privileged
The concept of privilege is a fairly easy concept to understand once you peel back all of its
layers. But it is also a concept that is rarely discussed among society. Because society is so
focused on how everyone is one in the same , the conversation of how people are actually different
is never discussed. Understanding that even though we all are human beings; our race, class,
sexuality, religion, and many other things is what makes us all different in some shape or form.
Conversations revolved around institutional discrimination and institutional racismcan prevent
certain people with privilege from understanding how marginalized groups are being oppressed
by certain systems. For some reason, privileged people, particularly white privileged people,
assume that all experiences are universal when we all know they aren t. Assuming that all
experiences are universal erases the lived experiences of marginalized people. Not only is there
privilege related to skin color, but there is also privilege in sexuality as well. Heterosexual men
and women have privilege as well. There have been well documented cases of institutional
discrimination against those in the LGBTQIA community. While white privilege and
heteronormativity privilege are forms of privilege, there are also other forms of privileges as well.
But of course, there are some heterosexual men and women that don t believe that they have
problem. Sadly, they do, but they fail to recognize even the smallest things that form

The Treaty Of Versailles And Japan
On January 1919, Saionji Kinmochi, Japan s representative to the Versailles Peace Conference
found himself seated alongside the leaders of the Big Four (Great Britain, France, Italy, and the
United States). This occasion marked Japan s status as one of the world s great powers after the
First World War. More importantly the Treaty of Versailles expanded the Japanese Empire
because it legalized Japanese annexation of former German concessions in China and its colonies
in the South Pacific. Although far from the battlefields of Europe, Japan was an active participant
of the First World War because of the Anglo Japanese Alliance. The alliance called for mutual

In 1858 Britain imposed another treaty called the Anglo Japanese Treaty of Amity and Commerce
which forced Japan to make concessions to Britain such as the opening of the ports of Hakodate,
Kanagawa, and Nagasaki to British commerce. For a while parts of Japan were turned into semi
colonial status, which motivated the Meiji regime to modernize and strengthen Japan. Although
Britain imposed unequal treaties to Japan, it helped Japan to modernize, because Britain played
host to the Japanese delegation that studied the political system, industries, education, and the
militaries of the western world. The military cooperation between the two countries was especially
strong because the leaders of the Imperial Japanese Navy were keen on modelling the organization
after the British Royal Navy. Since the 1870 s, Japanese sailors and officers were sent to the
United Kingdom to study the methods and organization of the Royal Navy. Moreover the newly
formed Imperial Japanese Navy acquired some of its first vessels from Britain. In 1894, a new
treaty called the Anglo Japanese Treaty of Commerce and Navigation was signed which paved the
way for the Anglo Japanese Alliance in 1902. Unlike the previous two treaties between Britain and
Japan, the 1894 treaty was a breakthrough agreement because it heralded the end of the unequal
treaties and the system of extraterritoriality in Japan. British citizens living in Japan were now

  • 2. What attracted European imperialism to Africa to Asia in... Mortimer Chambers et al define imperialism as a European state s intervention in and continuing domination over a non European territory. During the Scramble for Africa in the late nineteenth century, the most powerful European nations desired to conquer, dominate and exploit African colonies with the hope of building an empire. According to Derrick Murphy, in 1875 only ten percent of Africawas occupied by European states. Twenty years later only ten percent remained unoccupied. There were several factors which attracted European imperialists to Africa. There were opportunities for profitable investment and trade. Raw materials, which Africa possessed in abundance, were also desired. A cheap source of labour was required as it would... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The British wanted to link their possessions in Southern Africa with their territories in East Africa, and these two areas with the Nile basin. Obtaining the Sudan was vital to the fulfillment of these ambitions especially since Egypt was already under British control. This red line through Africa was made famous by Cecil Rhodes and Lord Milner who advocated for a Cape to Cairo empire linking by rail the Suez Canal to the Southern part which possessed many minerals. According to Brian Levack, there was also a certain level of nationalist competition. The unification of Germany upset the balance of power in Europe. In this climate of tension, governments looked towards enforcing national strength. The newly formed nations of Italy and Germany now sought empires outside Europe as a means of gaining power and prestige within Europe. In the nineteenth century, a German historian Henrich con Treitschke stated All great nations in the fullness of their strength have desired to set their mark on barbarian lands and those who fail to participate in this great rivalry will pay a pitiable role in time to come. Under the leadership of Bismarck, Germany soon embarked on a quest of expansionism. Bismarck s distrust of England under Gladstone was one of the reasons he decided to do this. Germany became engaged in an arms race with Great Britain and it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Black Of Black Crimes Black crimes in America are caused solely by the actions of black people. The previous statement is said throughout both rural and urban American, and it is based off of uneducated and racist ideologies. The criminal actions of blacks are partly contributed to their own decision making, though the same holds true for criminals of all races. However, black people in America have the longest lasting and most destructive history of racismtowards them in modern American history, and this has led them to be the most poverty stricken racein America. Black people in America are the most poverty stricken race by percentage, with 27.2 percent of the racial population in 2012 and 2013 (U.S. Census). However, in order to discuss why nearly one third of blacks are in poverty, then the history of racism towards blacks must be discussed. Additionally, how racist actions of oppression has placed many blacks in a degrading, and devaluing situation that continually promotes poverty and crime shall be discussed too (Grabbidon and Grenne, 177). From 1641 up until 1865 Africans were captured by slavers and sold into slaveryon Southern American plantations. British colonials viewed them as no more than personal property, as the Africans were not under British rule and were not protected under British law (History). Thus, during this time period blacks in slavery did not hold any rights at all (History). Those who were able to buy their freedom were treated as second class ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Descriptive Essay On The Park I was walking towards the park my father always took me to do my project when I was little, Let me go! I heard a girl scream. I tried to see where it was coming from, as I looked across the green grass wondering if it was my imagination or not. The grass had been recently mowed and the trees had animals on them as if the whole city was perfect. I heard it again, Please let me go! I decided to put my textbooks and the designing journal down on the bench. In the city we live in, there is no crime so nobody would steal my stuff. I tried to hear where the scream came from. As I walked around the whole park, the sound grew fainter. I found where the sound was coming from. I hid behind a big, green, and growing tree. She looked tired but strong. The guards didn t look happy. It was rare seeing them since there is no crime in Yasashi. They had her in handcuffs. She scanned the park. We locked eyes. Her eyes were a beautiful shade of purple. Her eyes were a like mine. Except my eyes were a little brown and slowly turned purple. In Yasashi it was common for people to have brown eyes. So it was rare seeing another person like me who had purple eyes. So it was rare seeing another person with purple eyes. She was dressed in a blue muscle tee with black leather skinny jeans. Power point 11 If you are having trouble understanding this variable, you are exactly where you are supposed to be. Hopefully, my explanation will help you! A mediating variable explains the relationship between the two other variables. As an example, let s consider the relation between social class (SES) and frequency of breast self exams (BSE). Age might be a moderator variable, in that the relation between SES and BSE could be stronger for older women and less strong or nonexistent for younger women. Education might be a mediator variable in that it explains why there is a relation between SES and BSE. When you remove the effect of education, the relation between SES and BSE disappears. Power point 12 While researchers will never state that one variable caused another variable to occur, as there are so many variables to consider in social science research. • 6. Margaret Atwood s Oryx And Crake In Margaret Atwood s Oryx and Crake, she describes a frightening dystopian futuristic society that consists of the compounds and the pleeblands. The compounds are home to wealthier class, that work in industrial plants during the day and enjoy the shopping malls and fancy dining at night. The pleeblands are nearly the exact opposite. Snowman, the main character of the novel and former inhabitant of the compounds, describes them as disease infested, drug ridden ghettos. These two communities could not be further separated. Unfortunately, it appears as if Margaret Atwoods dystopia is upon us. Zizek is trying to address a systemic problem of objective violence that is a result of global isolation and division. He writes on page 102, This new racism of the developed is in a way much more brutal than the previous ones: its implicit legitimisation is neither naturalist (the natural superiority of the developed West) nor any longer cultural (we in the West want to preserve our cultural identity), but unabashed economic egotism. The fundamental divide is one between those included in the sphere of (relative) economic prosperity and those excluded from it (102). This quote perfectly describes the global epidemic that we now face, where the global community is so fixated on building walls and turning our heads to those who do not fit our mold. What is more frightening, however, is that economic egotism along with racial and sociological isolation is happening on a domestic basis. It s not as simple as national pride and desire to keep our cultural intact, as Zizek notes. Rather, in the United States, seen first hand in New Orleans, there is a blatant rejection for those who are not on the same economic and social platform as ourselves(102). In Oryx and Crake, Margaret Atwood illustrates a fantastical world with compounds and pleeblands. Over the course of the book the reader is given many images of the pleeblands. • 11. Radioactive Waste Of Radioactive Wastes INTRODUCTION Radioactive waste contains radioactive substances, which are used for the production of nuclear power and in other scientific fields such as nuclear fission or nuclear technology (Hidaka, Yuan, and ebrary, 2012). Currently, although the use of radioactive materials has provided great benefits to society, the radioactive waste issue has been widely discussed in terms of being a huge problem that may affect natural environmental systems, and also human health (Ojovan Knovel, 2011). According to Sartori (2013), efficient radioactive waste management systems are needed to provide safe isolation from the contact with the ecosystem as long as necessary to reduce effects on biological systems; and it involves many steps such as treatment, conditioning, transportation, storage and disposal of all categories of radioactive wastes, including administrative, operational and safety related actions (The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation ANSTO, 2011). It is known that radioactive waste management activities have to follow current regulations, which are directly related to waste characterisation that involves radioactive waste classification. Due to the importance of radioactive waste, this report addresses a literature review of the management of radioactive waste. Profound poverty means family disintegration due to death by AIDS, substance abuse, violence and breakup become more prevalent leading to a growing problem. This problem is the number of children who begin to claim the streets as their home. Life is hard on the streets, where none of the safeguards of the society are in place, and these young people see little hope of change. As a result, drug and alcohol abuse becomes normalized in the child street communities and children become at risk for a number of health problems. The mother and son are surrounded by a St. Bernard named Cujo, that was bitten by a wild animal and has become rabid, out for blood. In particular, they fail to form a sentence with an appropriate functional morpheme (Lardiere, 1998; White, 2003). A functional morpheme refers to a morpheme which performs some kind of grammatical function, playing a role in lexical change. It consists of the function words in the language such as definite markers. The inflection of a definite marker, in other words, definiteness, distinguishes a nominal phrase (NP) between identifiable and non identifiable. Destiny or maybe just the name curse, Aeldra wasn t sure what it was. Deniz means sea in Turkish and Bora has the meaning of hurricane and that is where their life ended, where their destiny landed them at the end so Aeldra made a promise to herself to call her first born baby Hakan which meant emperor so the destiny would make him the ruler. Aeldra hated the fact of being lonely and a family was what she desired the most in her life. A need to belong, to be part of something, that was all she wanted from this world but at the age of sixteen she got the most horrible lesson on her life: Better off alone than with monsters. She got raped on a rainy night while she was alone in the street and from that horrific experience, she got pregnant. Then, an insurgency made up of animals with pigs as their leaders, rebel against Mr.Jones (owner of the farm) by driving him off his farm. The animals try to make the perfect life for themselves, but that doesn t go as planned. Animal farm then, starts to fail. The farm fails because of the pigs not being fair to the other animals, and the animalsbeing too dumb to realize it. The other animals made mistakes, by not speaking up when they thought something was wrong. One reason animalism fails, is because of power grabs by animals. There are many examples of this throughout the book. One power grab that failed animalism, was when the pigs take the milk and the apples for themselves. So it was agreed without further argument that the milk and windfall apples (and also the main crop of apples when they ripened) should be reserved for the pigs alone. (P.g 36) This is unfair because the pigs being selfish, but they are the leader, it immediately grants them permission to do so. This shows why animalism fails because the pigs don t do anything for the wellbeing of animal farm, they do things only for themselves. Another example of a power grab is when Napoleon (a pig) takes the puppies so that they will obey and protect him. It happened that Jessie and Bluebell had both whelped soon after the hay harvest, giving birth between them to nine sturdy puppies. As soon as they were weaned, Napoleon took them away from their mothers, saying that he would make himself responsible for their education. Over a 67 year span, 9 of the 14 microbreweries to operate in the state failed. Was it the cost and availability of big beer and product loyalty that caused this to happen? But in 2013, Georgia s craft beer industry took a drastic turn. Microbreweries were opening at an exponential rate. That year, Creative Loafing, an alternative news weekly, reported eight microbreweries opening in the city of Atlanta, alone. Georgia had entered into a craft beer boom. The justice system could not force the social worker to testify because there was no imminent danger involved. When law and ethical standard separate, confidentialitysituations become very complex. On one hand, a person could not fault a social worker therapist for exposing confidential communication if ordered by the court. On the other hand, a person could reasonably question the correctness of violating the law if believed that in doing so they are behaving ethically. In the example of this case, the social worker was required by law to disclose confidential information regarding a client during the course of their social worker relationship. City of New London Eminent Dominant According to the facts, it seems that the sentiment of John (Cougar) Mellencamp s hit in the 1984 fueled the controversies basing on the court s decision on June 23, 2005. The ruling stated that the local government or federal government was entitled to exercise eminent dominant rules to enable them acquire private propertyand utilize it for purposes of economic development. Eminent domainalso referred to as condemnation, is the act of taking private property and making it public property by the local governing authority, state, or federal government (Bradley 65). The private property taken away is converted to public property for public use. With reference to the case of the Kelo v. city of New London, the court ruled that the government should take private property through eminent domain for public use. This is due to the provisions of Fifth Amendment of the U.S constitution. New London, Connecticut, could exercise eminent domain for economic development. New London, Connecticut, was experiencing hard economic times majorly due to the closure of the U.S. Naval Undersea Warfare Center, which was the major employer in the region. This prompted a decrease in the tax base and population in general. This made the city leaders desperate for some development in the city s economy. • 40. E Voting And Its Effect On Voting Introduction E voting is an e government concept that uses the Internet to allow people to vote. The use of e voting is usually applied by countries and companies. In companies, this use of e voting can be used in shareholder meetings or other instances where it is not physically possible for all individuals with a vote to be present. E voting is a new concept that has recently been used by countries that are not willing to dedicate the necessary funds to provide paper votes. The use of e voting eliminates the use of paper and ensures that voter turnout will be higher as it will eliminate issues with travelling to the voting venue and waiting in any lines that may occur. In addition, the process of tallying votes will be far faster since e voting will eliminate the manual counting of votes as well as issues such as the vote counting machine malfunctioning. E votes will be counted using software designed to tally votes. The concept of e voting has been analyzed to ensure that it is a fair process. The fairness of this new type of voting will be critical to its acceptance. However, there is a portion of the population which feels that the system can be easily manipulated and argue that the Internet is vulnerable to hacker attacks, something that can lead to an invalid and unfair result. With advanced technology, it should be relatively easy for IT experts to devise ways that will ensure that the system will not be hacked. Literature Review Marcus, J. 2010. Technical ... Reforms and major events under the administration of Jackson were huge turning points in history. Although these reforms make it seem Jacksonian democrats were guardians, Jacksonian democrats were not guardians of the United States Constitution, political democracy, individual liberty, and the equality of economic opportunity. With the dissipating property qualifications, Jackson did little to help others who needed rights for which the Constitution was created. • 47. Basic Rules Of Evidence Are No Different For Electronic... General Requirements for Admissibility Generally, the rules of evidence are no different for electronic records than for paper records. Medical records are first subject to the hearsay rule, which says that any statement made out of court by a person not currently testifying is not admissible. However there are a number of exceptions to this rule, one of which is the Business Records Rule. Medical records are considered business records. For any business record to be admissible in a legal proceeding, it must be properly authenticated. In the case of medical records, a sponsoring witness must normally testify that the medical record meets certain conditions. Usually the sponsoring witness will be someone who knows enough about your medical record procedures to testify about how they are created and maintained. Computerprint outs are often used when the evidence is stored electronically. This is typical procedures for producing records from EHR or other electronic data systems. Evidence in Electronic Form While the basic rules of evidence are the same for paper and electronic records, there are several important differences. Compared to paper records, most courts consider electronic records to be more voluminous, more difficult to destroy, easily modified, easily duplicated, potentially more expressive, and more readily available. As a consequence, strict new rules were enacted in December 2006 requiring the preservation and disclosure of electronically stored ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
