as he welded pieces of steel together, while doing body work on motor vehicles. The

appendix of a patient previously writhing in pain and see the genuinely thankful smile
during a follow up consultation, completely remove a cancer caught in its early

In Ghana, for example, Illegal mining is more prevalent and has been a major
contributor to these primary crimes especially for the widespread destruction of
arable land. The country is rich in gold and in turn shows the foundations of
environmental crime as being the cause of greed and ignorance (Grabosky
2003:237). In according to Ghana National Commission for UNESCO statistics
(2013, cited in Dwumor and Arko, 2013) the mining industry offers employment
opportunities, estimating that it employs over 500,000 Ghanaians making it
unfortunately too widespread to tackle. On a global scale, the issue of illegal
mining tends to relate directly to safety. In fact, it is observed by Pyatt et al.
(2000) the environmental impact of illegal mining boils down to the lack of

views the deviation from one s inherent goodness as a source of psychological

life in more satisfying ways (Cooper, 2003). With the person centred approach
being more an attitude than a set of definitive techniques, a better understanding of
its process is formed through connecting theory and practice. As such, this case
study aims to apply the person centred approach to a fictional client based around
Lester Burnham from American Beauty (Cohen, Jinks Mendes, 1999). Initially, an
introduction to the client will be presented, followed by the assumptions,
assessment, and goals formed when working with him from a person centred
perspective. Several hypothetical helping sessions will then be presented. The
Presenting Problem Lester is a 40 year old man referred to me for counselling by
his doctor. He is currently married and lives with his wife, Carolyn, and their 16

Another one of McMurphy s hero types is an anti hero, which is a hero who lacks
some attributes of being a classic hero. A classic hero is a hero with ethics and
morals and who respects everyone and everything. This is not who McMurphy is. He
swears all the time, he gambles and cheats the other patients out of their money, not
