Two Kinds Strengths, Weaknesses, and More...
After exploring the contradictions in the lives of the Joy Luck Club such as, strength and weaknesses,
obedience and independence, individuality and society, joy and sadness, and hope and despair. It
really got me thinking about my strengths and weaknesses as a person (and where they came from).
Obviously, people s strengths and weaknesses are subjective so during the course of this writing
session I will either use my own personal opinion of what my strengths and weaknesses are. Or I will
state who said what my strengths and weaknesses are.
When thinking about about my strengths and weaknesses I asked my friend Harrison for help, he
thinks that I am fairly intelligent. On the downside he says that I give myself too much credit,
meaning I got a big ego. Harrison also claims that I have a short temper and always say the same stuff
sometimes. I think that my intelligence comes from my genetics, specifically from my dad, he got a
partial scholarship to Iowa for accounting. He majored in business to become a car salesman. He is
now the general manager of Carousel Motors in Iowa City and he pressures me to do good in school.
Along with my intelligence, he also brings me my short temper. My dad has always had a short fuse,
every time I did something wrong, he would either yell at me or be visibly upset about the situation.

Abstract:
The purpose of the experiment is to cycle solid copper through a series of five reactions. At different
stages of the cycle, copper was present in different forms. First reaction involves reaction between the
copper and nitric acid, and copper changed from elemental state to an aqueous. The second reaction
converted the aqueous Cu2+ into the solid copper (2) hydroxide. In the third reaction Cu(OH)2
decomposed into copper 2 oxide and water when heated. When solid CuO reacted with sulfuric acid,

In this experiment an elemental copper was cycled a series of five reactions where it ended with pure
elemental copper as well, but at different stages of the cycle the copper was in different forms. In the
first reaction, elemental copper was reacted with concentrated nitric acid where copper changed the
form from solid to aqueous. Second reaction then converted the aqueous Cu2+ into the solid copper II
hydroxide (Cu(OH)2) through reaction with sodium hydroxide. The third reaction takes advantage of
the fact that Cu(OH)2 is thermally unstable. When heated, Cu(OH)2 decomposes (breaks down into
smaller substances) into copper II oxide and water. When the solid CuO is reacted with sulfuric acid,

True Grit Analysis
St. George, South Carolina claims to be the Grits Capital of the World , eating more pounds of grits
per capita than any place else in the world. Grit, what is it? Well it can be food or a personality trait,
depending on how you look at it. This question is underlined in the novel True Grit. This idea of grit
comes from the book True Grit by Charles Portis, about a 14 yr. old girl, Mattie Ross, who has come
to find someone with grit to avenge her father. She hires a U.S Marshall named Rooster Cogburn who
brings along a Texas Ranger named La Boeuf to help her capture and/or kill her father s murderer,

In my opinion someone with true grit is not being pitiless, tough and fearless. Mattie reiterates this grit
description by telling him, They tell me you are a man with true grit (Portis 59). I disagree with Mattie
on this one, to me there are other traits of true grit shown later that describe the meaning of grit better.
This tells us that Rooster has a grit that is different from Mattie s grit shown in the book, and that grit
can also mean being harsh, resilient and fearless. Rooster and them finally run into the gang that
Chaney is in, led by Lucky Ned Pepper. At this point Ned s gang has left Chaney with Mattie, to cash
their stolen goods when La Boeuf and Rooster come to halt them in their tracks. La Boeuf knocks
Chaney out while Rooster challenges the band of four bandit s head on, like so, He took the reins in
his teeth and pulled the other saddle revolver and drove his spurs into the flanks of his strong horse
and charged directly at the bandits (Portis 201). This action quote is my favorite display of Rooster s
true grit because he shows it as being bold and courageous. Rooster kills all but one, by means of this
action he illustrates grit in his boldness, strength and roughness by literally gritting his teeth together
to perform this act of true grit. After this event, Mattie is poisoned by a snake bite and Rooster shows
grit again by risking many things, including his hat, Rooster lost his hat and never looked back (Portis
215). I have a favorite hat and would be sad to lose it, so for me this shows that Rooster s meaning of
grit changed. If it wasn t for his care about Mattie, he probably would have turned back for his hat. He
did it to save Mattie s life, displaying a different type of grit, one of valor, resolution and care of her.
While Rooster showed us more sides to grit, La Boeuf surprisingly proved that even Texas
