4-H Positive Youth Development Paper
There are many student programs from which schools can choose to implement in a school year. Each
program provides a different focus and different results. One of these programs is the 4 H Afterschool
program. 4 H programs are nation wide and can be offered through schools and clubs and are
supported by universities in each area. 4 H offers four main after school, in school, or club programs
based around science, citizenship, healthy living, and mentoring ( 4 H Positive Youth Development ,
n.d.). According to the 4 H website , 4 H Positive Youth Development , each program offers the
potential for positive youth development and growth in a learn by doing atmosphere led by trained

20). Within a 4 H program, health needs are addressed and taught to students. Some of the habits and
ideas that are addressed include: healthy eating, physical activity, injury prevention, social emotional
health, and the prevention of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use (Downey, et al., 2014, p. 14). By
teaching these topics to the youth, they are better able to apply them to their lives and the decisions
they will make concerning their health and well being.
After learning healthy habits in the program, students tend to go home and share what they have
learned with their parents and family. The knowledge that is taught to the youth goes well beyond their
own minds and bodies, but benefits the people around them as well. The 4 H Afterschool programs
seek to not only help the individuals, but their lives as they increase knowledge and skills necessary
for improving physical activity practices and to improve the habits and behaviors of children, youth,
and families (Downey, et al., 2014, p. 14). The goals that have been set forth should ultimately reduce
the health risks that are seen in communities such as obesity and illnesses (Downey, et al., 2014, p.

Theme Of The Fifty-First Dragon
The short story, The Fifty First Dragon, was written by Heywood Brown. He was a newspaper writer
during the early 1900 s, working on several major newspapers. He stated by writing stories about
sporting events, then moved on to war related stories before finally gaining a column to write his
stories in. He has been noted for liberal political views in his essays, although they seem to be
somewhat light in this story. There are two main themes in the story which complement each other
extremely well. This first is that confidence in one s self is key, shown by how the character performs
when he is confident. The second is that relying on an outside object for confidence will lead to a fall.
This point is made clear by how the main character loses his self confidence one he realizes that the
idea he was getting his confidence from is proven false. The story is a medieval fantasy, with knights
and dragons. It is set during what appears to be the beginning stages of the renaissance in England.
The story takes place at a knight school near London which is neighbored by a forest which contains
dragons. The main character of the story is Gawaine le Coeur Hardy. His physical appearance is
described as one would picture a knight, strong and tall; however, he lacks any confidence and often
hides from anything that might present a threat. He struggles with his schoolwork and is often
forgetful. He is assisted by the headmaster of the school, whose primary concern is that Gawaine

Business Ethics Reflection Matthew Todd XMGT/216 4/22/12 Mike Ishmael Business Ethics
Reflection Matthew Todd XMGT/216 4/22/12 Mike Ishmael In my previous job, there was a couple of
ethical dilemmas I had over a period of time, but I m only choosing one of them to focus on in this
paper. This situation involved me catching another co worker stealing products from the shop. I didn t
say anything at first because I thought maybe this person had gotten permission to use these items. I
decided from then on that I was going to watch this person closely, to see if they would take anymore
products. Sure enough they did, and that was the moment I knew for sure they were stealing from the
company. I felt like I had to do something ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This stems from the greed of wanting more material assets, like I mentioned before. There are a
couple of different social pressures that I felt in this situation. The first is how nobody wants to be
called a nark or a taddle tale , so many people turn to keeping their mouth shut in situations like this so
they don t cause any waves. I felt the pressure to not say anything about the problem and just keep my
mouth shut. I also feel the social pressure of defending my employer and not letting them get taken
advantage of. There is a certain obligation that I have with the company since I m an employee, and
that is to stay honest and trustworthy, and to look out for potential problems that can conflict with
those values of honesty and trustworthiness. If I faced the same dilemma today, I think I would go
straight to management, unless I was especially close to the employee. Since I m not a manager I
should stay out of these kind of problems, and leave it up to them. It becomes to akward for me to
confront a fellow employee, because they often become to defensive and management gets involved
anyway, and then you end up looking bad if the issue is brought up in front of them. They will want to
know how come you didn t tell them and why are you trying to handle it yourself? I think in the future

$4.6 billion in 2000. Nucor recycles approximately 10 million tons of scrap steel. It operates in 9
states and produces carbon and alloy steel in bars, beams, sheet, and plate; steel joists and joist

highly motivated work force.
Analysis and evaluation
Dominant Economic Characteristics of the Steel Industry Environment
The steel industry worldwide has a huge excess capacity, forcing many companies to operate in red.
An unprecedented number of steel producers have filed for bankruptcy. Among them are Bethlehem
Steel Corporation and LTV, who were the country s third and fourth largest steel producers
respectively. With a lot of world s economies in recession in late nineties, there was a surge in the
import of steel. With unfair subsidies from their governments, foreign steel producers were dumping
steel in the U.S. market at cut rate prices. In 1999, the United States had decided not to impose any
import restrictions.
With 75% capacity utilization, a level too low for many companies, three European companies
decided to merge to form the world s largest steel producer. Two Japanese companies did the same to
form the second largest steel producer. These new mega steelmakers could easily outmuscle their U.S.
competitors. The largest steel producer in the US, USX U.S. Steel group was already at number 11,
with a threat of falling

Milk Movie Summary
The film Milk by Sean Penn and was made in 2008. The movie was based on a man named Harvey
Milk. Harvey Milk was fighting for gay rights as well as human rights. A brief summary for this film
would probably go somewhat like this. The movie starts off with Harvey Milk meeting a man on a
subway, the man was named Scott Smith. Harvey Milk and Scott Smith ended up being in an intimate
relationship. Scott Smith inspired Harvey milk to run for supervisor, so that he can help the gay
community. Milk runs to run for supervisor for 4 years and on the 5th ends up getting the job as
supervisor. A man Dan White was apart of the San Francisco board of supervisors, Dan White quits
his job and wants it back but the mayor, George Moscone, won t give it back because he had quit his
job. Because of this Dan white goes to City Hall and assassinates the George Moscone and Harvey

Harvey Milk is outraged by this action from the police that he stands on a makeshift stage outside his
shop and uses a megaphone to address to the people about what he had seen and what needs to be
done about it. People start to listen to Harvey Milk, and his boyfriend Scott Smith inspires him to run
to be a supervisor. The scene where the police are abusing the gay people is meaningful because if that
hadn t had happened, Scott nor Harvey would have had the courage to stand up for what they believe
in. The movie itself has a lot of meaning, mainly because it was an actual event is U.S history and it
happened in the Bay Area. Because of this event it allowed many gay people to come out in a way.
They all showed how much they cared about Harvey, even people who were straight went across the
city to mourn for him. They all mourned outside of city hall, they all had candles in their hand and the

The Alamo Battle Analysis
The purpose of this paper is to discuss an alternate ending to one of the greatest battles in Texas
history, the battle of the Alamo. This paper will show how using Intellectual standards and critical
seasoning can be used to conduct battle analysis as well as develop and alternate outcome to a
historical battle. The turning point in the fight for Texas independence from Mexico was the fight at
the Alamo again Santa Ana. If Santa Ana would not have won that decisive victory over the Texas
militia at the Alamo, the fight for Independence from Mexico would have possibly taken longer to
rally the troops. Before the siege at the Alamo, Santa Ana used his understanding of the battlefield by

That instant when the Alamo fell, intertwined Santa Ana s fate with the Alamo. (LSJunction, 1999)
What if Santa Ana did not strategically place forces around the Alamo and reinforcements had come to
aid the Alamo? The Alamo was never intended to be a defensive position by any means, but was
meant to be a mission. The Mission San Antonio De Valero, established in the early 18th century, was
situated along the San Antonio River. By 1800, the missionaries were displaced and their land was
seized for military purposes. Occupying soldiers called the Mission turned garrison El Alamo after the
cottonwood trees surrounding it. Eventually the mission was officially renamed The Alamo. First
Spanish soldiers, then Mexican soldiers occupied The Alamo. With only 200 Texan soldiers defending
the Alamo, Santa Ana lost 600 soldiers during the 13 day siege of the Alamo. Reinforcements would
have turned the tide in favor of the Texans. William B. Travis wrote a letter to the people of Texas and
all Americans. I am besieged, by a thousand or more of the Mexicans under Santa Anna I have
sustained a continual Bombardment cannonade for 24 hours have not lost a man. The enemy has
demanded a surrender at discretion, otherwise, the garrison are to be

Reflection Paper On My Reading
My Reading Response There is a famous saying Every time you open a book, you learn something .
Nevertheless, I had never imagined that reading could be fun, meaningful, and creative. The more I
read, and the more I was attached to the books. After I discovered a few of the readings, I realized how
the authors wanted to introduce their ideas without telling the story directly. This is fairly new to me.
In my earlier English classes that I had studied at the City College of San Francisco, I read mostly
textbooks and non fiction readings. In this English 1B class, I started reading the poem and fiction
materials and they are much harder to understand. Surprisingly, it often uses different configurations
to educate the readers. At the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For my first thought, I assumed white elephant should be connected as a precious gift or something
that is rare to obtain. I was surprised that the author used this term as a different meaning. It still
contained the ingredient of precious gift , however, he twisted to unwanted precious gift. After I read
this story about two times, I was happy that I was able to visualize the scene of this story and I
believed the conversations had helped me the most. I had also found some similarity and connections
between this story compared to the others.
Comparably, The Road Not Taken , by Robert Frost, also enclosed the mystery behind the reading.
Nevertheless, this reading was totally different than the Hills Like White Elephants . In my opinion,
poem is not something that everyone can easily handle and it s meant to be metaphorical. Everyone
can use the expression unlike than the others. As a result, it will become with different meaning. Here
s the example that I found in The Road Not Taken , and it clearly provided me the two different
meanings in sentences, although the words are the same, such as, Some dirty dog stole my wallet at
the party (Frost) and You can t teach an old dog new tricks. (Frost) The first phrase is not talking about
the dog and the second phrase was. But they look are very similar. Therefore, it requires effort and
time to understand the meaning. On the same note, a poem is also a reflection of our mood, and this is
the reason why

Summary Of Nature s Metropolis By Cronon
In the novel Nature s Metropolis by William Cronon, the author examines the city of Chicago in the
context of the environmental and economic factors that has made it a trade center. Additionally, the
novel presents the case for a looser definition of nature in relationship to urban centers emphasizing
the interconnectedness of both spaces and the role of environmental and anthropogenic factors in
shaping them. Interconnectedness to the point that Cronon encourages readers to view the city and
hinterlands related to it as a multitude of overlapping market and resource regions (Cronon 278).
Viewing the landscape through this anthropocentric lens where all spaces are involved in the
economics of the region elucidates the relationships present and breaks down the abstract walls
between city and hinterland. This essay will critically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without sunshine, ecosystems would be confined to abiotic elements and mostly bacterial organisms
and the economy would not exist sans the people that drive the exchanges that make it possible.
Conversely, sunshine is converted into food for plants which can then be consumed by another
organism (and another organism...etc.) or converted into building materials. In either case, the
sunshine is converted into something with some market value which is what Cronon describes as the
wealth of nature despite the permutations it may go through before it s final use (Cronon 150).
Consequently, economy is reliant on the ecosystem in which it exists and of which it is a part and vice
versa. For example, the prevalence of logging would vary by location and time of year and the forests
in the area would accordingly have different appearances (Cronon 156 157). This meant that the

1. Due to its low infrastructure cost, India has huge export potential. According to a recent report,
India s chemical exports have the potential to raise upto US$ 300 billion by 2019. This clearly
determines an investment of US$ 50 billion in the Indian chemical industry alone.
2. India has the capacity for high value addition in its stock as it is close to the Middle East. This is a
cheap and ample source for petrochemical feedstock.
3. In some categories of chemicals, India does have the advantage for exports by establishing strategic
alliances with countries like Russia due to the countries better capabilities in chemical products.
4. Availability and abundance of raw materials for agro based products, such as castor oil provide an
opportunity to India to yield significant value addition in the country. This, however, would require

What IS MBO ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although there is an understandable degree of variation among the scholars and practitioners about the
composition of an MBO program, they all appear to agree on the following guidelines:
* Superiors and subordinates meet and discuss goals for the subordinates that are in line with
organizational goals.
* The superior and subordinate jointly establish goals for the subordinate.
* The superior and the subordinate meet again after establishing the initial goals and evaluate the
subordinate s performance in terms of these goals.
Conceptually, MBO is the ultimate in participative management, since a subordinate can help establish
personal objectives for their job, help determine the measurements used in evaluating performance,
and receive constant feedback on progress. On the surface MBO restates the obvious. For example,
Isaiah (46:11) writes: I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it.
Unfortunately all human endeavor is full of disasters where fundamental principles or obvious data
were overlooked, ignored, or rejected.

Disney Misogyny
In Disney films, there is a lot of misogyny amongst female main characters. Many people in our
society have noticed a significant difference in the speaking roles between male and female characters
that Disney created, as men had way more lines than the women. Because these movies were mostly
created in the mid late 1900 s, this was the time that there was plenty of prejudice against females.
Now, in the year 2017, females are getting a little more equality than before to the point where many
females now have jobs that were only for males in the 1900 s. Most Disney movies for that matter
involve some sort of misogyny, even the ones that recently came out such as Brave and Frozen .
Examples of various levels of misogyny can be noticed in Disney films such as Ariel in The Little
Mermaid (1989), directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. The movie is about a 16 year old
mermaid who wants to live on land with a human Prince named Eric but is only able to after making a
dangerous wish with Ursula the Sea Witch to be a human for three days. In this movie Ariel The
Mermaid , prejudice can be seen in Ursula, by a female having too much authority, Ariel cannot speak,
and Ariel uses her appearance to attract others.
Firstly, Ursula the Sea Witch can be seen with a ton of power. The power turns Ursula evil and
manipulative, which shows that females that have too much power should be removed from society,
just like Ursula. ...And now, look at me wasted away to practically

first written in 1917, it was directed at the poet Jessie Pope, then the dedication changed to a certain
poetess . However, this dedication was never published as Wilfred Owen wanted the poem to reach
everyone and not just Pope. Pope was a famous WW1 poet best known for her pro war, motivational
poems, her most famous being Who s for the Game . The themes in Dulce Et Decorum Est (DEDE)
are war, death and patriotism. Who s for the Game (WFTG), has the same themes of war and
patriotism, but also sports and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Patriotism is a large part in any piece of war poetry, the two we are analysing show to very different
beliefs. WFTG is very patriotic almost jingoistic whereas DEDE is cynical towards patriotism. In
WFTG lines 16 17 Pope writes Your country is up to her neck in a fight // and she s looking and
calling for you with an emphasis on you . Most lines in this poem start with who ll and then finally in
the last two lines of the poem it changes from who to you. No longer who will do it, who will save
people, now it s changed you will do it. Linking back to the patriotism in these lines. It personifies the
country, as a damsel in distress figure. Something the man can save, become a hero. But not only this,
the use of your this gets the reader to believe that England is their country and they have to protect
what s theirs. Thus using patriotism to get men sign up for the war without them knowing it. As
mentioned earlier Owens view of patriotism in DEDE are very different from Pope s, almost the exact
opposite. This, however, was probably due to Owens own experience in war, seeing the suffering that
he writes about in Dulce Et Decorum Est . Much like Pope, Owens last lines show his true feeling
when it comes to patriotism. These lines are most likely aimed at Pope, the lines being My friend, you
will not tell with such high zest // To children ardent for some desperate glory // The old lie: Dulce est
decorum est // Pro patria mori. The words in this extract are so harsh and bitter. The word desperate
implies the war is pathetic, not real glory, a pathetic glory. The patronising use of friend really shows
the reader that this poem is not aimed at them but someone else. Owen is saying to Pope how can you
tell these boys, who are so excited for this great war, so prepared to die, that it is sweet and fitting to
die, for your country, when this is what death is in the war. How can this be

The Argument In Favor Of Prayer In Public Schools
For many years, students in public education were familiar with prayer in school. However, after this
practice was challenged by parents in New York State, the Supreme Court ruled on June 26, 1962 that
government endorsed prayer in public schools is unconstitutional. Many Americans still disagree with
this decision and believe in the importance of prayer in schools and that is the constitutional right of
every American. Some of the arguments in favor of prayer in public schools are that it supports
religious freedom in the United States, it acknowledges America s heritage, and it offers benefits to all
of society.
First of all, prayer in school supports the principle of religious freedom on which the United States
was founded. By banning school

Human Body Decomposition
What happens to the human body after death? What dictates the beginning of death? Why do human
bodies decompose? These are all questions that have led to the study of the decomposition of the
human body, along with the need for identifying the time of death for forensic reasons.
The heart ceasing to pump blood throughout the body, marks the beginning of death. Four minutes
after death, decomposition begins4. There are four main stages of decomposition: stage one is referred
to as fresh or autolysis, stage two is bloat or putrefaction, stage three includes putrefaction and
carnivores and is referred to as decay4. The final stage is dry and includes diagenesis4. These stages
can happen simultaneously and it is possible for a stage to be skipped4. ... Show more content on

breakdown of these proteins is aided by physical or microbial damage5. Proteins will break down into
polypeptides, amino acids, peptones, and proteoses5. The sulfur containing amino acids will further be

Data And Data Flow Documentation
The first improvement suggested is regarding data and data flow documentation. There are three
oracle databases used as the database platform for some of the transaction applications and for the
customer facing online portal. Additionally, the asset management and financial applications are
customized off the shelf applications. The development strategy in place is to develop the majority of
the applications in house. These applications are used internally by users within the lines of business.
Development can be in the form of database stored procedures. Data integration processes were

A new job for data movement is created instead of modifying an existing job to reduce the risk of an
incident. How the jobs work is known by some of the senior developers. There is minimal
documentation to provide to new employees to reduce the time required to understand the data flow.
New tables and fields to support new application functionality or enhancements are requested by
developers and added to the oracle databases. Duplicate fields are created for the same data element in
the database as a result of developers working on similar subject areas. A new field is created because
there is no central repository documenting existing data elements. The same data element exists in
duplicate fields and updated by multiple applications. Materialized views created from one database to
another include logic to modify data due to an application requirement. Developers must review the
code in the views due to the lack of documentation in a central repository. In some cases, a new
materialized view is created for the same data set. A major challenge in loading the new data
warehouse is identifying the correct tables and fields to use as the source of the loads. The extract
transformation and load code (ETL) to load the data into the new analytics database cannot be
developed until all tables and fields impacting timelines.

Discuss the impact of the Holocaust in ONE country other than Poland ITALY
The impact caused from the holocaust to Poland can t be compared to any other countries impact but
some historians believe that Italy were one of the most predisposed countries involved with the

Italians worked with the Germans which also worked in favour of the Italians.
Historians have tried to exempt Italians from their role in the holocaust. While Italy did precept racial

Anselm Faith Seeking Understanding
Faith Seeking Understanding Saint Anselm of Canterbury is without a doubt one of the most
influential Christian Philosophers. He discovered the Ontological Argument and is well known for his
doctrine of atonement. He did not stop here however, he also worked in areas such as the following:
understanding the aspects and unity of the divine nature; the extent of our possible knowledge and
understanding of the divine nature; the complex nature of the will and its involvement in free choice;
the interworkings of human willing and action and divine grace; the natures of truth and justice; the
natures and origins of virtues and vices; the nature of evil as negation or privations; and the condition
and implications of original sin. It is safe to say that Anselm had his fingers in a lot of pies. The man
led a very interesting life which resulted in him being banished not once, but twice because of his
dealings with rulers. The earliest known biography is by a man named Eadmer who was a
contemporary of Anselm s. The purpose of this paper is to give account of Anselm s life, including his
famous works and his Apologetic method. To begin with there is one phrase that really defines the
philosopher and all of his ventures: in everything he longed for faith seeking understanding .

nevertheless. Faith seeking understanding goes beyond simply establishing faith s doctrines, however,

Negative Effects Of Low Self Esteem
Currently, a significant amount of individuals with low self esteem in the world. Each day this number
increases because of the discouragement of uniqueness. Doctor Joe Rubino stated, 85% of the world s
population is affected by low self esteem. Recently, the media, Adobe Photoshop, and professional
modeling have become prevalent in lives. These negative sources are the significant causes of this
growing low self esteem. Social media, magazines, the internet, and television shows advertise
specific flawless qualities. This behavior sabotages any courage to express as unique individuals.
People are greatly depending on the media to identify what appearances are superior. The major
problem with relying on the media is sending negative messages. Instead of identifying perks, the
media is averting their attention to a person s flaws. Flaws are unnatural according to the media. Yet, it
will state that everyone should feel confident. Media sources should have no role in how one lives. It
is promoting confidence but is lowering it at the same time. The media expressing that people aren t
suitable enough is spreading hatred. This hatred is leading to low self esteem. Despite the media s
beliefs, individuals are unique and thus beautiful despite their flaws. Furthermore, any magazine cover
likely has a person with a perfect body on the cover. Although the usage of Photoshop in the past to
crop images or retouch the color, it has progressed into altering facial and body features

Differences Between Arcite And Palamon
In Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales he depicts a short story, The Knight s Tale , describing the
lives two young cousins named Arcite and Palamon. These two men are from the kingdom of Thebes,
which was under the rule of Creon, until it was defeated by Theseus, Duke of Athens. Arcite and
Palamon are found and brought back to Athens to be imprisoned for the remainder of their lives. This
short story depicts the tale of the fight between Arcite and Palamon over a beautiful woman, Emily.

A Note On The Bailout Crisis
The concept of a bailout is a loaded topic by itself, and its definition certainly does not give it any
help. The words failing, save, and collapse are usually not associated with a light hearted idea. When a
company or a country s economy is on the verge of collapse, chaos is not far behind. Job loss, bank s
individual trust, the stock market, and even each household s net. worth is at stake, all of which leads
to economic decline. During this time of panic, banks (commercial or central depending on the scale)
must make a decision on whether or not they should save/bailout the company or economy. In many
instances, especially when a country s economy is about to collapse, other central banks are usually
not seen to shy away ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Asset Relief Program, or TARP. Congress then passed, and President Bush signed, the Emergency
Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, which established the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief
Program (Investopedia). In November 2008, the Federal Reserve instituted quantitative easing
programs following the 2007 2008 financial crisis; or QE as it has become known. Quantitative easing
is the act in which central banks buy government bonds in order to promote economic growth. In
November 2010, the Federal Reserve announced a second round of quantitative easing, referring to it
as QE2. A third round again was later announced on September 13, 2013; which is now being referred

the currency used in the country. Japan, the United Kingdom, Scandinavia and the Eurozone quickly
followed, since enacting quantitative easing programs of their own (Randow). A central bank, reserve
bank or monetary authority are all institutions that manages a state s currency, money supply and
interest rates. A central bank also has the authority to print the national currency. Central banks within
countries in the Eurozone cannot unilaterally expand their money supply and therefore cannot directly
employ quantitative easing. These countries must instead, rely

Let Me Make A Declaration Of Modesty
Before I begin, let me make a declaration of modesty. I am, by no account, a legal expert, and, at this
point, having a career as illustrious and fruitful as President Garrett s is a mere dream. She is, of
course, far more intelligent, informed, and experienced than I in matters relating to law and, in
particular, the Supreme Court of the United States, and it is for this reason that I write this article not
in criticism, but in genuine confusion.
During the Question Answer portion of the September 18th faculty panel discussion regarding
Democracy Inequality, President Garrett and Professor Robert H. Frank, management and economics,
criticized the Supreme Court s holding in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission (2010) that
the First Amendment permits independent corporate political expenditures.
President Garrett and Professor Frank chastised the ruling for its pernicious consequences on
American democracy. Professor Frank derisively highlighted the ruling s establishment of corporate
personhood, and President Garrett pondered how the five justice majority (Roberts; Scalia; Kennedy,
opinion author; Thomas; Alito) could possibly have concluded that unrestricted political donations
would not inherently precipitate bribery, for which there exists, in the President s words, a compelling
State interest to prevent. Ultimately, the general panel consensus was twofold: Citizens United was
wrongly decided, and the case should be overturned.

Neoliberalism s World Order
Neoliberalism s world order was established during the 1980s under the leadership of President
Ronald Reagan and his British counterpart Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and appears to be ever
expanding, or so is perceived by large swaths of the global population. The world that these
visionaries saw was meant to unite all nations into one system, and yet, despite the Soviet Union s
implosion in 1991, there has been an increased sense of nationalism throughout the world; no other
entity exemplifies this more so than the European Union. Since the end of the Second World War,

The result of this exchange can be seen in how the German economy hegemonically supports many
other states within the union. Ironically, Europe has always been the center of hegemonic power since
the colonial era, which in turn led to national uprisings across their spheres of influence (Spiegel,
Matthews, Taw, Williams, 2015). Since the end of the economic downturn, Germany has been
unwilling to support the idea of simply bailing out nations such as Greece, opting instead for a form of
structural adjustment programme (SAP) to be imposed on the nation (Irwin, 2015). Placing such a
policy on a nation only results in the nation never being able to fully achieve sovereignty;
supranational bodies such as the IMF imposed such programmes on nations in Africa in the past, and
these programmes have merely created more issues to resolve (Mkandawire, 2014). SAPs polarization
of economics is a major contributor to the prolonging of the European debt crisis, and has been a
contributor to the skewing of global politics in favour of the powerful. In the European context, the
implementation of SAPs like policy on Greece has resulted in nationalism becoming a recurring theme
in the Greek political scene. Rising from the debt riddled aftermath of the market collapse of 2008 are

War On Drugs As A Social Problem
The problem I want to explore is how the War on Drugs has become a social problem. This is a social
problem because it has created an overpopulated prison system disproportionately filled with people
of color and the poor. The current rate of illegal drug use among African Americans and Whites is
almost the same while a little less among Latinos (7.4 percent, 7.2 percent, and 6.4 percent,
respectively) (Moore, L. D., and Elkavich, A., 2008). But because white people make up a larger
portion of the U.S. population, the number of white drug users is much greater than that of drug users
of color. Data from 1998 tells us that Whites made up 72 percent of all illegal drug users while African
Americans made up 15 percent of illegal drug users (Moore

Essay on Setting in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest
Ken Kesey s One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest is a unique fiction novel about oppression and
rebellion in an American 1950 s Mental Hospital. In this highly distinctive novel, setting definitely
refers to the interior, the interiors of the Institution. It also refers to the period this novel this was set
in, the 50 s, 60 s where McCarthyism was dominant. Furthermore, it has great symbolic value,
representing issues such as the American struggle of freedom and conformity. This essay shall discuss

The interiors are also significant as it is a representation of how society applied their expectations of
each other. Throughout the McCarthy period, there was the great threat of the Russians, the
communists, who could potentially use nuclear technology to attack America. Also, any person who
unpatriotically supported communism was harshly dealt with. These events were represented in an
exact scale model of the Mental Institution. Anyone who dared to cause an uproar was humiliated in
group therapy sessions, or given Electroshock Therapy, or in extreme cases such as McMurphy,
lobotomy. In the hospital, McMurphy represented the rebel, the opposer to the Combine
(McCarthyism), the one who wanted to break free of society s conformity.
Setting is also important, as it refers to the period this book was set in, the 1950 s. Ultimately, it is a
reflection of what was happening in American society at the time, and what American society
expected from each other. McCarthyism, as started by Senator Joseph McCarthy, was the most
prevalent movement of the 1950 s, where there was great momentum for anti communism and the
suppression of the Anti communist party. Freedom of speech was suppressed, just like speech and

Analysis Of Katherine Mansfield s Life
Katherine Mansfield was born October 14, 1888 in Wellington New Zealand. Mansfield was a well
known and respected prominent writer in the 20th century. She attended Queens College in London
with her sisters. Mansfield broke barriers for female writers in the early 20th century and even still
today. Her stories commonly focus on the theme of reality /world versus human nature while also
touching the themes of the darker and more complex sides of life. From Enheduanna to Jane Austen to
Charlotte Bronte to J.K. Rowling. Woman have proved over and over again that the role of author
and/or writer can suit females just as much as any man. Mansfield encouraged women to write and
used herself as an example with her own writing to try to attract more female authors. Often, women
are pictures as just people who birth babies, cook, clean, shopped and stayed around as house wives.
Sometimes, they did not have a wide span of education. Even in the early 1900 s women didn t often
go to college, it wasn t until the 1980 s that women began to attend college in equal numbers to men.
Poet laureate Robert Southey said Literature cannot be the business of a women s life. One of the key
assumptions that Mansfield and other women modernists faced was the habit of presenting narrative
fiction through male eyes and according to male values. Mansfield herself strived for everyone (not
limited to just women) to do whatever they wanted. She encouraged people to break rules and branch
out.

to be the beast, and ended his life.It is quite evident the boys have lost all control on all aspects of their
old lives, whether it b e by their appearance have changed, manners or their perspective on abiding

Essay on Women s Role in Society in the 1800s
AP American History Women s Role in Society During the early 1800 s women were stuck in the Cult
of Domesticity. Women had been issued roles as the moral keepers for societies as well as the
nonworking house wives for families. Also, women were considered unequal to their male
companions legally and socially. However, women s efforts during the 1800 s were effective in
challenging traditional intellectual, social, economical, and political attitudes about a women s place
in society. The foundation of colleges for women as well as events at women s rights conventions
intellectually challenged society s views on women s traditional roles. As education became more of a
public governmental service, the educational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women s rights activists influenced the nation to believe that women were men s equals, changing
traditional women social roles. During the 1800 s a husband had legal authority over their wife. In a
sense, he owned her, and for that reason women had little respect in their culture. However, as women
pursued their cause for equal rights, many men began to see women as their equals. This gained them
greater respect within their culture. An example of one of the social changes that occurred because of
women s rights movements was when Lucy Stone kept her maiden name even after she became
married. Fifty years before the women s rights movements began a small event like this would have
never been allowed within the community. As women in the 1800 s fought for women s rights, slowly
female social roles began to change. With the help of the Industrial Revolution, women made
significant strives in changing the traditional economic roles given to females. Before the industrial
revolution the only opportunity for a woman to be financially secure was for that woman to marry a
financially secure husband. This created women s dependence on men because if the man died they
would have no source of income. The Industrial Revolution provided many women with jobs of their
own helping women to become self dependant. This self dependence allowed for women to pursue
interests not involving men, such as

Essay about External Auditors Must be Independent
2001. It was the year that every individual; man, woman and children on Earth would remember.
There was the September 11 event which was considered the worst terrorist attack that has happened
in U.S. history, killing a total of 2, 977 people. And not long after that, in the business world, on
December 2, the greatest corporate failure was exposed. The crash of Enron in US, followed by the
worldwide collapse of its auditor, Arthur Andersen became one the most popular accounting scandal
where it is still being talked about even after a decade has passed. Following this scandal, other
massive organizations like WorldCom (2002), AIG (2004), and Satyam Computer Services (2009)
shared the same fate. Since then, there have been questions being ... Show more content on

The presence of an external auditor allows creditors, investors or bankers to use financial statements
that have been prepared with confidence. Although it does not guarantee the accuracy of a financial
statement, it provides users with some reassurance that a company s financial statements give a true
and fair view of its financial position and its business operations. It also provides credibility, where in
business, is a major asset. With credibility, the willingness of investors, bankers and others to relate
and undertake business projects with a company increases. Credibility is also important to build
positive reputations.
Internal auditors cannot effectively provide an analysis on the company s internal dealings as they are
part of the company. External auditors, however, can observe these processes from the outside and
then determine where the funds of the company and whether the dealings adhere to the regulations.
Using external auditors in a company prevents conflict of interest from happening. Conflict of interest
is a situation where an individual or organization has multiple interests and of those multiple interests,
one could possible corrupt the motivation for an act on the other when the auditor has any kind of
beneficial interest in their client s performance. In other circumstances, there is also the threat of
familiarity where auditors become

Analysis Of Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs
One quote people worldwide probably heard of is Magic Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of
all . In the 1930s, cinema was not one of the most viewed things, many people were being somewhat
affected by World War II. During an extremely catastrophic time, Walt Disney decided to create Snow
White and the Seven Dwarfs , a movie filled with imagination that formed an incredible legacy. This
movie was one of the earliest animated films at the time, and after a tremendous critical success, can
still be seen among our youth. It is a classic Oscar nominated film that should be watched by children,
teenagers and young adults. The fascinating plot captured the audience since the beginning. An evil
queen, who aspired to be the most beautiful woman in her kingdom, had a magic mirror to which she
asked if there was someone more beautiful than her. When the mirror responded that the young
Princess Snow White was infinitely more beautiful, the queen was enraged, and ordered a hunter to
take the girl to the forest and kill her. The hunter, taking pity on Snow White, left her and gave her
instructions to run as fast as she could. As the wicked queen demanded that the girl s heart be brought
to him, to show that he indeed fulfilled the order, the hunter killed a deer and teared out the heart, and
presented it to the queen as if it were Snow White s.
Meanwhile, Snow White takes refuge in a small house, property of seven charming dwarfs that
welcome her affectionately. But the queen

Introversion In The Mid-17th Century
In the seventeen years that I ve been alive, I have relished spending my days in a very particular
manner. Alone. And that s not to say that spending time with my closest friends has never brought me
pleasure; our late nights at wrestling competitions, playing video games, just shooting the breeze are
some of my most enjoyable memories. It s just that there s something soothing about solitary reading,
quiet introspection, and exercising alone toward which I gravitate. According to my mom it s because
she didn t arrange enough playdates for me when I was a little kid. It may just be that I was born
predestined to have an inclination towards solitude, like some puritanical hermit. But regardless of the
reasons for my social preferences, what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Be it rappers, outspoken politicians, flamboyant actors, or any number of outgoing personas,
Americans admire individuals for their attention commanding qualities. To quote Susan Cain, a former
corporate lawyer, and Tedx acknowledged authority on introversion, shyness implies submissiveness.
And in a competitive culture that reveres alpha dogs, one downmanship is probably the most damning
trait of all. THAT is why I find it so important to separate the concept of introversion from shyness: To
dispel any notion of weakness, to deny any perception of social disadvantage, and to debunk the idea
that introverts are in any way incapable of being functional members of society. After all, I m a living
contradiction to that

Since there are pros and cons to each and everything there are a few disadvantages as well.
There are capacity balancing problems. The way that you carried your supplier manufacturer relation
previously gets disturbed and therefore working with the same supplier under the same environment
gets a little difficult.
There is a decreased flexibility. The same problem that we mentioned above is that working or
carrying out two different functions under the same roof creates a higher level of difficulty for them.
Creates a barrier to market entry. As we saw before as well that whenever there is a vertical merger the
firm becomes stronger and it creates a market barrier for the other firms to enter. This perfectly gets
associated with the acquisition that we have in this case because turning out to be a market leader after
a second largest acquisition in this case makes it a market leader of a perfect sort.
EFFECTS OF THE ACQUISITION:
REVENUE:
The revenue for ZF TRW automotive initially after the merger was $ 4442 Million. Three months after
the merger the revenue increased to $ 4593 Million. This was mainly because of the stature of the
acquisition perceived in the automobile market by the

Hume True Knowledge
In a world full of false news and information, it is often difficult to distinguish truth from fiction.
Many individuals assume these ideas to be true without considering the merit behind these claims.
However, considering the facts, we also need to ponder this idea: Can we really know anything for
certain? While Hume argues, true knowledge is impossible to obtain by using experience alone, I
argue that experience is the foundation of learning and that by establishing foundational ideas, we can
ultimately reach true knowledge. Experience is something used to gain information about the world
and aids in understanding of how it functions. It is what separates instincts from science. I feel
experience is a powerful perception that allows individuals to truly learn more about the world simply
by going through everyday life. It is comparable to playing a new game online that lacks instructions.
At first, it might seem difficult adjusting to the certain strategy involved and the controls. Then, as
time goes on, skill set expands, and improvement is made at the game. This experience in the game
alone allows you to learn how to play. This is the same with real life. No one is born with the
experience and no one has instructions on what to do with their lives. ... Show more content on

Then, if people do not believe in anything at all, our existence would therefore be unreal because
something must be known to exist. So, if philosophers do not believe in our existence, they would be
saying this world were not in fact real and humans would be uncapable of thought. However, to
understand what is not real would require us to know what is real to begin with. Making the
conclusion that to say what something is not, would require defining what it is first, proving that since
our world is real because we have thoughts, life must have absolute knowledge or else life could not

History And Culture Of The Hispanic World Essay
COSTA RICA History and Culture of the Hispanic World I. La Conquista a. Initial Years of the
Conquista in Costa Rica Like many of countries in Central America, the arrival of Christopher
Columbus in Puerto Limon was met with troubles. However, the Ticos (as they are known) welcomed
them with open arms and exchanged gifts with Europeans who passed through the area. Europeans
were always given gold, coining the name the rich cost. Many natives fled areas penetrated by
European settlements due to diseases like smallpox and tuberculosis. Unlike other places that were
discovered , Europeans could not get the locals to work for them. So, Europeans were left to scratch
out new farms themselves. After 1821 s independence of Guatemala, Costa Rica held elections for a
new government the same year. (Shields). Once the new government had started, it put people to work
by building road ways, schools, and encouraged businesses to start. Costa Rica never really rebelled
against the Spaniards, but followed the lead of Guatemala. b. Colonial System In 1564, Juan Vasquez
de Coronado founded the first permanent European settlement, Cartgao (been there!). (Morrison).
Cartago is a city based mostly out of agriculture. Farming is a huge part of Cartago, and Costa Rica s
success. Driving through the streets of Cartago is like finding hundreds of carts and shops with various
produce, fruits, and vegetables. Costa Rica is known as the Switzerland of Central America. (Shields).

Some of the habits and ideas that are addressed include: healthy eating, physical activity, injury prevention, social emotional health, and the prevention of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use (Downey, et al., 2014, p. 14). By teaching these topics to the youth, they are better able to apply them to their lives and the decisions they will make concerning their health and well being. After learning healthy habits in the program, students tend to go home and share what they have learned with their parents and family. The knowledge that is taught to the youth goes well beyond their own minds and bodies, but benefits the people around them as well. The 4 H Afterschool programs seek to not only help the individuals, but their lives as they increase knowledge and skills necessary for improving physical activity practices and to improve the habits and behaviors of children, youth, and families (Downey, et al., 2014, p. 14). • 3. Theme Of The Fifty-First Dragon The short story, The Fifty First Dragon, was written by Heywood Brown. He was a newspaper writer during the early 1900 s, working on several major newspapers. He stated by writing stories about sporting events, then moved on to war related stories before finally gaining a column to write his stories in. He has been noted for liberal political views in his essays, although they seem to be somewhat light in this story. There are two main themes in the story which complement each other extremely well. This first is that confidence in one s self is key, shown by how the character performs when he is confident. The second is that relying on an outside object for confidence will lead to a fall. This point is made clear by how the main character loses his self confidence one he realizes that the idea he was getting his confidence from is proven false. The story is a medieval fantasy, with knights and dragons. It is set during what appears to be the beginning stages of the renaissance in England. The story takes place at a knight school near London which is neighbored by a forest which contains dragons. The main character of the story is Gawaine le Coeur Hardy. His physical appearance is described as one would picture a knight, strong and tall; however, he lacks any confidence and often hides from anything that might present a threat. He struggles with his schoolwork and is often forgetful. He is assisted by the headmaster of the school, whose primary concern is that Gawaine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Business Ethics Reflection Business Ethics Reflection Matthew Todd XMGT/216 4/22/12 Mike Ishmael Business Ethics Reflection Matthew Todd XMGT/216 4/22/12 Mike Ishmael In my previous job, there was a couple of ethical dilemmas I had over a period of time, but I m only choosing one of them to focus on in this paper. This situation involved me catching another co worker stealing products from the shop. I didn t say anything at first because I thought maybe this person had gotten permission to use these items. I decided from then on that I was going to watch this person closely, to see if they would take anymore products. Sure enough they did, and that was the moment I knew for sure they were stealing from the company. I felt like I had to do something ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This stems from the greed of wanting more material assets, like I mentioned before. There are a couple of different social pressures that I felt in this situation. The first is how nobody wants to be called a nark or a taddle tale , so many people turn to keeping their mouth shut in situations like this so they don t cause any waves. I felt the pressure to not say anything about the problem and just keep my mouth shut. I also feel the social pressure of defending my employer and not letting them get taken advantage of. There is a certain obligation that I have with the company since I m an employee, and that is to stay honest and trustworthy, and to look out for potential problems that can conflict with those values of honesty and trustworthiness. If I faced the same dilemma today, I think I would go straight to management, unless I was especially close to the employee. Since I m not a manager I should stay out of these kind of problems, and leave it up to them. It becomes to akward for me to confront a fellow employee, because they often become to defensive and management gets involved anyway, and then you end up looking bad if the issue is brought up in front of them. They will want to know how come you didn t tell them and why are you trying to handle it yourself? I think in the future it will be much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Mission San Antonio De Valero, established in the early 18th century, was situated along the San Antonio River. By 1800, the missionaries were displaced and their land was seized for military purposes. Occupying soldiers called the Mission turned garrison El Alamo after the cottonwood trees surrounding it. In my earlier English classes that I had studied at the City College of San Francisco, I read mostly textbooks and non fiction readings. Summary Of Nature s Metropolis By Cronon In the novel Nature s Metropolis by William Cronon, the author examines the city of Chicago in the context of the environmental and economic factors that has made it a trade center. Additionally, the novel presents the case for a looser definition of nature in relationship to urban centers emphasizing the interconnectedness of both spaces and the role of environmental and anthropogenic factors in shaping them. Interconnectedness to the point that Cronon encourages readers to view the city and hinterlands related to it as a multitude of overlapping market and resource regions (Cronon 278). Conceptually, MBO is the ultimate in participative management, since a subordinate can help establish personal objectives for their job, help determine the measurements used in evaluating performance, and receive constant feedback on progress. On the surface MBO restates the obvious. For example, Isaiah (46:11) writes: I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it. • 20. Disney Misogyny In Disney films, there is a lot of misogyny amongst female main characters. Many people in our society have noticed a significant difference in the speaking roles between male and female characters that Disney created, as men had way more lines than the women. Because these movies were mostly created in the mid late 1900 s, this was the time that there was plenty of prejudice against females. Now, in the year 2017, females are getting a little more equality than before to the point where many females now have jobs that were only for males in the 1900 s. Most Disney movies for that matter involve some sort of misogyny, even the ones that recently came out such as Brave and Frozen . Examples of various levels of misogyny can be noticed in Disney films such as Ariel in The Little Mermaid (1989), directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. The movie is about a 16 year old mermaid who wants to live on land with a human Prince named Eric but is only able to after making a dangerous wish with Ursula the Sea Witch to be a human for three days. In this movie Ariel The Mermaid , prejudice can be seen in Ursula, by a female having too much authority, Ariel cannot speak, and Ariel uses her appearance to attract others. Firstly, Ursula the Sea Witch can be seen with a ton of power. The power turns Ursula evil and manipulative, which shows that females that have too much power should be removed from society, just like Ursula. ...And now, look at me wasted away to practically ... • 21. Dulce Et Decorum Est By Jessie Pope Analysis War Poetry Comparative Essay The saying dulce et decorum est pro patria mori comes from the roman poet Horace in Ode III.2.13, it translates back to how sweet and fitting it is to die for one s country. When Dulce Et Decorum Est was first written in 1917, it was directed at the poet Jessie Pope, then the dedication changed to a certain poetess . However, this dedication was never published as Wilfred Owen wanted the poem to reach everyone and not just Pope. Pope was a famous WW1 poet best known for her pro war, motivational poems, her most famous being Who s for the Game . The themes in Dulce Et Decorum Est (DEDE) are war, death and patriotism. Patriotism is a large part in any piece of war poetry, the two we are analysing show to very different beliefs. WFTG is very patriotic almost jingoistic whereas DEDE is cynical towards patriotism. In WFTG lines 16 17 Pope writes Your country is up to her neck in a fight // and she s looking and calling for you with an emphasis on you . Most lines in this poem start with who ll and then finally in the last two lines of the poem it changes from who to you. No longer who will do it, who will save people, now it s changed you will do it. Linking back to the patriotism in these lines. It personifies the country, as a damsel in distress figure. Something the man can save, become a hero. But not only this, the use of your this gets the reader to believe that England is their country and they have to protect what s theirs. Thus using patriotism to get men sign up for the war without them knowing it. As mentioned earlier Owens view of patriotism in DEDE are very different from Pope s, almost the exact opposite. This, however, was probably due to Owens own experience in war, seeing the suffering that he writes about in Dulce Et Decorum Est . Much like Pope, Owens last lines show his true feeling when it comes to patriotism. These lines are most likely aimed at Pope, the lines being My friend, you will not tell with such high zest // To children ardent for some desperate glory // The old lie: Dulce est decorum est // Pro patria mori. The words in this extract are so harsh and bitter. The word desperate implies the war is pathetic, not real glory, a pathetic glory. The patronising use of friend really shows the reader that this poem is not aimed at them but someone else. Many Americans still disagree with this decision and believe in the importance of prayer in schools and that is the constitutional right of every American. President Garrett and Professor Frank chastised the ruling for its pernicious consequences on American democracy. Professor Frank derisively highlighted the ruling s establishment of corporate personhood, and President Garrett pondered how the five justice majority (Roberts; Scalia; Kennedy, opinion author; Thomas; Alito) could possibly have concluded that unrestricted political donations would not inherently precipitate bribery, for which there exists, in the President s words, a compelling State interest to prevent. Ironically, Europe has always been the center of hegemonic power since the colonial era, which in turn led to national uprisings across their spheres of influence (Spiegel, Matthews, Taw, Williams, 2015). Since the end of the economic downturn, Germany has been unwilling to support the idea of simply bailing out nations such as Greece, opting instead for a form of structural adjustment programme (SAP) to be imposed on the nation (Irwin, 2015). Placing such a policy on a nation only results in the nation never being able to fully achieve sovereignty; supranational bodies such as the IMF imposed such programmes on nations in Africa in the past, and these programmes have merely created more issues to resolve (Mkandawire, 2014). SAPs polarization of economics is a major contributor to the prolonging of the European debt crisis, and has been a contributor to the skewing of global politics in favour of the powerful. Also, any person who unpatriotically supported communism was harshly dealt with. These events were represented in an exact scale model of the Mental Institution. Anyone who dared to cause an uproar was humiliated in group therapy sessions, or given Electroshock Therapy, or in extreme cases such as McMurphy, lobotomy. In the hospital, McMurphy represented the rebel, the opposer to the Combine (McCarthyism), the one who wanted to break free of society s conformity. Setting is also important, as it refers to the period this book was set in, the 1950 s. Ultimately, it is a reflection of what was happening in American society at the time, and what American society expected from each other. McCarthyism, as started by Senator Joseph McCarthy, was the most prevalent movement of the 1950 s, where there was great momentum for anti communism and the suppression of the Anti communist party. Freedom of speech was suppressed, just like speech and actions were inside the hospital. Here, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Analysis Of Katherine Mansfield s Life Katherine Mansfield was born October 14, 1888 in Wellington New Zealand. Mansfield was a well known and respected prominent writer in the 20th century. She attended Queens College in London with her sisters. Mansfield broke barriers for female writers in the early 20th century and even still today. Her stories commonly focus on the theme of reality /world versus human nature while also touching the themes of the darker and more complex sides of life. From Enheduanna to Jane Austen to Charlotte Bronte to J.K. Rowling. Woman have proved over and over again that the role of author and/or writer can suit females just as much as any man. Mansfield encouraged women to write and used herself as an example with her own writing to try to attract more female authors. Often, women are pictures as just people who birth babies, cook, clean, shopped and stayed around as house wives. Sometimes, they did not have a wide span of education. Even in the early 1900 s women didn t often go to college, it wasn t until the 1980 s that women began to attend college in equal numbers to men. Poet laureate Robert Southey said Literature cannot be the business of a women s life. One of the key assumptions that Mansfield and other women modernists faced was the habit of presenting narrative fiction through male eyes and according to male values. Mansfield herself strived for everyone (not limited to just women) to do whatever they wanted. She encouraged people to break rules and branch out. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Essay on Women s Role in Society in the 1800s AP American History Women s Role in Society During the early 1800 s women were stuck in the Cult of Domesticity. Women had been issued roles as the moral keepers for societies as well as the nonworking house wives for families. Also, women were considered unequal to their male companions legally and socially. However, women s efforts during the 1800 s were effective in challenging traditional intellectual, social, economical, and political attitudes about a women s place in society. The foundation of colleges for women as well as events at women s rights conventions intellectually challenged society s views on women s traditional roles. As education became more of a public governmental service, the educational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Women s rights activists influenced the nation to believe that women were men s equals, changing traditional women social roles. During the 1800 s a husband had legal authority over their wife. In a sense, he owned her, and for that reason women had little respect in their culture. However, as women pursued their cause for equal rights, many men began to see women as their equals. This gained them greater respect within their culture. An example of one of the social changes that occurred because of women s rights movements was when Lucy Stone kept her maiden name even after she became married. Fifty years before the women s rights movements began a small event like this would have never been allowed within the community. As women in the 1800 s fought for women s rights, slowly female social roles began to change. With the help of the Industrial Revolution, women made significant strives in changing the traditional economic roles given to females. Before the industrial revolution the only opportunity for a woman to be financially secure was for that woman to marry a financially secure husband. This created women s dependence on men because if the man died they would have no source of income. The Industrial Revolution provided many women with jobs of their own helping women to become self dependant. This self dependence allowed for women to pursue interests not involving men, such as ... And that s not to say that spending time with my closest friends has never brought me pleasure; our late nights at wrestling competitions, playing video games, just shooting the breeze are some of my most enjoyable memories. THAT is why I find it so important to separate the concept of introversion from shyness: To dispel any notion of weakness, to deny any perception of social disadvantage, and to debunk the idea that introverts are in any way incapable of being functional members of society. • 50. Hume True Knowledge In a world full of false news and information, it is often difficult to distinguish truth from fiction. Many individuals assume these ideas to be true without considering the merit behind these claims. However, considering the facts, we also need to ponder this idea: Can we really know anything for certain? While Hume argues, true knowledge is impossible to obtain by using experience alone, I argue that experience is the foundation of learning and that by establishing foundational ideas, we can ultimately reach true knowledge. Experience is something used to gain information about the world and aids in understanding of how it functions. It is what separates instincts from science. I feel experience is a powerful perception that allows individuals to truly learn more about the world simply by going through everyday life. It is comparable to playing a new game online that lacks instructions. At first, it might seem difficult adjusting to the certain strategy involved and the controls. Then, as time goes on, skill set expands, and improvement is made at the game. This experience in the game alone allows you to learn how to play. This is the same with real life. Initial Years of the Conquista in Costa Rica Like many of countries in Central America, the arrival of Christopher Columbus in Puerto Limon was met with troubles. However, the Ticos (as they are known) welcomed them with open arms and exchanged gifts with Europeans who passed through the area. Europeans were always given gold, coining the name the rich cost. Many natives fled areas penetrated by European settlements due to diseases like smallpox and tuberculosis. Unlike other places that were discovered , Europeans could not get the locals to work for them. So, Europeans were left to scratch out new farms themselves. After 1821 s independence of Guatemala, Costa Rica held elections for a new government the same year. (Shields). Once the new government had started, it put people to work by building road ways, schools, and encouraged businesses to start. Costa Rica never really rebelled against the Spaniards, but followed the lead of Guatemala. b.
