Inland waterways play an important role in transporting goods across Europe. Over 37,000 kilometers of waterways connect hundreds of cities and industrial regions across 13 European countries. Inland waterway transport accounts for around 7% of total transport modes in Europe. Countries with the highest density of inland waterways networks are the Netherlands and Belgium. The Rhine river accounts for 68% of total inland waterway transport across Europe and moves goods like metals, chemicals, and fuels between countries. Inland waterway transport is most competitive for distances of 200-300 km or over 400 km due to its low variable costs over large transport volumes. Reliable infrastructure, sufficient transport volumes and distances, and integrated transport services are necessary for further development

24. NECS 2016 Connectivity through inland waterways_ Mr.Mahboob AhmedFICCINorthEast
Presentation made at 3rd Northeast Connectivity Summit,2016 on Connectivity through inland waterways by Mr.Mahboob Ahmed,Managing Director,Shipwright resources ltd,Dhaka
‘Inland Waterways’ is economically most viable sector and, as such it should be an integral part of infrastructure development in India. Though environment-friendly and, frequently, the most economical mode of inland transport, it remains largely under-exploited
India has an extensive network of inland waterways in the form of rivers, canals, backwaters and creeks. Development of inland waterways would be suitable for heavy and bulky goods as well as it will lower the logistics cost of production and in turn, make the prices of the products more competitive in global market
Ukraine in Transit: From Digital Resistance to Digital RenaissanceInternews Ukraine
The presentation explores the digital dimension of Ukrainians protests Euromaidan and the digital challenges for Ukrainian non-profits and news organizations
India has about 14,500 km of navigable and potentially navigable waterways of which around 55% is used regularly.
Inland waterways in India consist of the Ganges (Ganga)–Bhagirathi–Hooghly rivers, the Brahmaputra, the Barak river, the rivers in Goa, the backwaters in Kerala, inland waters in Mumbai and the deltaic regions of the Godavari - Krishna rivers.
About 44 million tones of cargo is moved annually through these waterways using mechanized vessels and country boats.
We suddenly live in a strange and wonderful nexus of digital and physical. Touchscreens let us hold information in our hands, and we touch, stretch, crumple, drag, and flick data itself. Our sensor-packed phones even reach beyond the screen to interact directly with the world around us. While these digital interfaces are becoming physical, the physical world is becoming digital, too. Objects, places, and even our bodies are lighting up with with sensors and connectivity. We’re not just clicking links anymore; we’re creating physical interfaces to digital systems. This requires new perspective and technique for web and product designers. The good news: it’s all within your reach. With a rich trove of examples, Designing for Touch author Josh Clark explores the practical, meaningful design opportunities for the web’s newly physical interfaces.
The focus of this presentation is on the factors that drive Europe’s successful container on barge markets, and the lessons that can be applied in the United States.

The european programe Weastflows
AURH is involved in Weastflows, a European project led in the frame of the program INTERREG IVB for North-West Europe area, with 21 other partners.
The aim of this project is both :
- improve logistic operations and freight transport in North-West Europe
- decongest the traditional North-South axis.
These objectives could be reached by :
- encouraging the shift from road to more sustainable modes (railway and inland waterway transport, short sea shipping)
- promoting the development of freight flows on a new west-east axis.
Thanks to Weastflows, AURH saw the opportunity to include in a new dynamic the Seine estuary area and the Seine Valley at the heart of the European freight transport system.
The project recognized as "strategic initiative" by the European Commission, is divided into 12 actions. AURH is in charged of the first one, entitled "Assessment of capacity for sustainable transport". This action mainly mobilizes the geographical and geomatic expertise of the AURH.
The Atlas of major North-West European freight infrastructures achieved by AURH is the first deliverable of the project
The Atlas is based on the implementation of a Geographic Information System (GIS) built by the AURH team and covering the seven countries of North West Europe involved in Weastflows. Composed of 47 maps, the Atlas presents the organization of freight infrastructure in North-West Europe, all types of infrastructures and all modes included (road, rail, inland waterways, sea and air). Never before such work had been done on this scale.

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).
Unveiling the Secrets How Does Generative AI Work.pdfSam H
At its core, generative artificial intelligence relies on the concept of generative models, which serve as engines that churn out entirely new data resembling their training data. It is like a sculptor who has studied so many forms found in nature and then uses this knowledge to create sculptures from his imagination that have never been seen before anywhere else. If taken to cyberspace, gans work almost the same way.

Volumes and
distance
The greater the volumesat the seaport or the final destination, the more advantageous
it becomes to use inland waterway services. Inaddition, the more distant the markets
from the port the greater the opportunities to exploit waterway transport.
Reliability and
frequency
It is necessaryfor inlandwaterway servicesto be reliable and frequent and offer a
transit time which is acceptable in comparison with road and rail. There must be a
network of inland waterway terminalsor inland hubs, where traffic flows are
concentratedand broken up in order to be routed to their final destinations.
End-haulroad
transport
Terminal handling costs in the barge terminal should not be too great to threaten the
competitiveness of the combined waterway-road services in compared to allroad
transport.
Full chain
control
There is a need to provide the shipper with an integrated end-to-endservice between
the maritime terminal and the final destination. This requires actors that are able to
coordinate the inlandchain.
