49. The Port of Antwerp : Entering a new decade Dr. Chris Coeck BDM Transport Insurance Seminar 2010
Editor's Notes
Antwerp is located in the Hamburg-Le Havre Range. The ports in this range partly serve the same hinterland and thus are competing for the same customers.
Logistical know-how is also deeply rooted in the numerous distribution companies. In total they offer over 4.8 million m 2 of covered storage space. A large part of this warehouse space is designed to cater to the special needs of particular products. An ever-growing number of distribution firms also offer value-added logistics. These activities include items such as preassembly, labelling, quality control, inventory management, and after-sale service. As logistic service providers they take the management of the flow of goods out of the hands of the customer, and attend to the administration of the entire information flow as well. By leaving the logistics side to specialists, producers are able to concentrate on their core activities and gain in competitiveness and effectiveness.
