Music, The Orchestra, And The Romantic Symphony
Since the beginning of the semester, I have learned three concepts about music in western civilization.
The 3 concepts I have learned is elements of music, the orchestra, and the romantic symphony. Theses
concept are very interesting to me because I don t have any type of musical background and I got the
chance to learn about how music really started. There are many elements I learn when it comes to
making an orchestra and composing a music program. An orchestra is a group of musicians that come
together to make background music for a TV show or movie. During the class, I learn that they also
provide concerts, ballets, and opera to the public. According to English online.at The word orchestra
was first used by the ancient Greeks and meant the front part of a stage. During the Middle Ages, it
also included the musicians on the stage. The orchestra has a lot of history that goes back to the late
6th and early 7th century. The orchestra group was organized by the kings and queens of Italian and
French churches. They used string instruments to perform at dance parties, ballet, and operas. This is
fascinating that the orchestra music goes back as far as the late 6th century. I could see how
Beethoven, Smetana, Tchaikovsky and among other have made amazing orchestral music and how
they were influenced by it. When the orchestra is playing it could have 10 or more instruments.
During class, I learn that when we talk about the orchestra it usually means a symphony orchestra. A

Introduction:
There have been numerous changes in the computer technology since the first computer was invented
and this is an ongoing process. During this whole time computers have shrinked tremendously in size
and now can be carried in pocket and as a wearable object. Wearable technology provides human
enhancement in personal level and offers several opportunities in enterprise. It is essential to
understand the history, evolution and other enabling technologies to effectively adopt and improve the
use of wearable technologies.
History and evolution of Wearable Technology:
The first form of wearable technologies was probably the wrist watch, which was designed to provide
a particular service to the users, was invented as early as the late 1500s. Then the portable radio, later
evolved into the Walkman which was also perpetuated because of users desire to have access to a
particular service all the time. These desires for continuous access of services have pervaded the
development of most of the wearable technologies. The development of computers has exhibited a
progression towards mobility and portability, from massive mainframe computers to desktops to
laptops, to PDA s and to wristwatch computers which were

Summary #1 Katz
This article is about heterosexuality and it talks about homos vs. hetero and how it s different in other
culture. Katz goal of this article to get people to have open minds about the name heterosexuality . He
wants to remove the idea of heterosexuality from the realm of the taken for granted, subjecting it to
the dangers of analysis and the possibility of critique (67). To me this article make the readers open
their mind up to things they never properly thought of and think out of their own boxes. Makes them
think what hereto and homo people are like and how they live their lives. Katz goes back to the 19th
century and talks about the history back then and how sexuality wasn t a

Self Reflection And Professional Development
In my journey of becoming a professional teacher, the main two events which took place in my life
were self reflection and professional development.
In my opinion, self reflection is to reflect back and think about what I have done in order to develop
myself. As it is written in the Collaborative website of the MCH Training Grantee Network, self
reflection is the way of evaluating the effect of our values, style of thinking and communicating and
experience. Also the process of self reflecting helps to develop people s culture, skills and principles
since these may affect the future actions and learning.
There are many benefits of self reflection. It helps teachers to give a clear picture of what they have
done before in their life. And what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As professional learning association in the year 2015 states, professional development is defined to be
the basic tool that education institutes can use to help the teaching staff continuously learn and
develop their skills and knowledge. According to Guskey. T, (2010), high quality professional
development is the major element in nearly every modern proposal for improving education,
The primary purpose of professional development is to prepare and support teachers by giving them
the knowledge and skills they need to help all students achieve high standards of learning and
development (U.S. Department of Education, 1996).
Professional development is not a one day job. It should be a continuous thing if teachers want to
become knowledgeable. In the early days, to refresh teachers, weekly workshops or seminars were
conducted which was not very effective. Now the trend has changed. It became a continuous process.
All the trainings that are carried out including course level ones are also known as professional
development. Teachers gain a lot of knowledge, training and experience from those

The Sunni-Shia Conflict
The historic background of the Sunni Shia lies in the schism that occurred when the Islamic prophet
Mohammed died in the 632, leading to a dispute over succession to Mohammed as a caliph of the
Islamic community spread across various parts of the world, which led to the battel of Safin. The
dispute intensified greatly after the battle of Karbala, in which Hussein ibn ail and his household were
killed by the ruling Umayyad caliph Yazidi, and the outcry for revenge divided the early Islamic
community. Today, there are differences in religious practice, traditions, and customs, often related to
jurisprudence. Although all Muslims groups consider the Quran to be divine, Sunni and Shia have
different opinions on hadith.
Over the years, Sunni relations have been marked by both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His sons, Hassan and Hussain, were denied what they thought was their legitimate right of accession
to the caliphate.
Hassan is believed to have been poised in 680 by muawiyah, the first caliph of the Sunni Umayyad
dynasty, while Hussein was killed on the battlefield by the Umayyad s in 691.these events gave rise to
the Shia concept of martyrdom and the rituals of grieving.
Shia Islam: Shia Islam encompasses most Muslims who are not counted the Sunni. The division
between Sunni and Shia, dates to the death of the prophet Mohammed when his followers were faced
with the decision of who would be his successors as the leader of Islam s. Shiites are those followed
Ali, the closest relatives of Mohammed, as Muhammad s successor. Today there are approximately
120 million Shiite Muslims in the world.
The Shia consists of one major of thought known as the jafaryia or the Twelver s , and a few minor
schools of thought, as the Seveners or the fivers . These names all refers to the number of imams they
recognize after the death of Mohammed. The term Shia is usually meant to be synonymous with the

Power In Dracula
The Gothic world is fascinated by the struggle for power . In light of this statement, discuss the ways
in which writers present types of power. Gothic writers are fascinated by power struggles, but often
shock readers by reversing conventional power differences. Examples of this include the power of
rationality against religion, and the female voice and sexuality being powerful, highly controversial
topics during the Victorian era. These power struggles often reflect the writer s own experiences and
views, for example Poe frequently presents power struggles between humans and the supernatural due
to losing his loved ones, and mental illness. Similarly, in Dracula , Stoker portrays the supernatural as
powerful, but with strong sexual undertones, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carter uses sexual dominance in The Bloody Chamber as a metaphor for women s social inequality
with He in his London tailoring; she, bare as a lamb chop . The separation of the pronoun she
represents the isolation forced upon her by her overbearing husband. The girl is also mentioned after
the Marquis in this sentence, showing how she ranks after him and has no control now that she s
married. Women are often seen as passive as the Marquis assesses the girl with the eyes of a
connoisseur , implying that she is an object to be owned and lusted after. Sivyer writes the man
assumes an active and dominant role whilst his bride is positioned as passive . Her passivity is shown
when she says He made me put on my choker , she was forced to do it and offered no resistance. The
choker itself represents her captivity as it s similar to a collar, implying that the Marquis is her owner,
also exemplified as he calls her my little nun . This condescension mocks the girl for her innocence,
asserting the Marquis s dominance, but also the possessive pronoun my shows ownership; he believes
that his wife belongs to him. Interestingly, Dracula uses similar possessive language to assert power
over another male (Jonathan), exclaiming This man belongs to me! This declarative statement shows
that he has decided that Jonathan is his property, showing his desire for dominance and possession to
exhibit his power. His wickedness is

Effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
A study by Possemato, K., Pratt, A., Barrie, K., Ouimette, P (2015) that showed how PTSD affects
returning veterans and the individuals in contact with them by using a method of a longitudinal study
examining daily fluctuations in PTSD and alcohol use among OEF (Operation Enduring
Freedom)/OIF (Operation Iraqi Freedom) combat veterans recruited from VA primary care Inclusion
criteria consisted of combat during an OEF/OIF deployment, hazardous alcohol use and symptoms of
combat related PTSD, defined as functional impairment associated with at least one Diagnostic and
Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fourth edition (DSM IV) reexperiencing symptom, plus three
avoidance or two arousal symptoms measured by a clinical interview The sample (N 137) comprised
both men (88%, n 120) and women (12%, n 17), with a mean age of 30 (SD 7.2). Most self identified
as White (81.8%, n 112) and reported having at least some college education (70%, n 96). About half
of the participants were employed (53%, n 73), and the estimated average annual income was $41,642

My Resolution For New Year
Every year my family and I count down to the new year, this year I am came up with a resolution that
I can keep with myself for a long time and use it until I am out of school all the way up to collage.
New Year has always seemed to be a fresh start of a new cycle, this year I hope my resolution shall be
one of the best one! My new year s resolution for 2018 is to do better in school and to think outside
the box when it comes to schoolwork. This has been something that I have been trying to reach since
Middle school and I am still trying even harder to do my very best in school now. There is also still
some improvements that I need to make in school, like if I do bad on a test I know for next time to
study real good for that subject. However, I am going to start off this year the right way by not only
setting my goal, but also making sure I achieve each and every one of them.
This year I aim to focus on getting remarkable grades and staying focused in school no matter how
boring and long it is. I plan to do better in school than I did in 2017. Just some things I have to stay on
top of is studying and doing well on my homework no matter how long it takes. When I take tests I
have to be careful and pick the best possible answer, again that s where the studying should pay off. If
I am able to do everything I said then I should be sure to achieve my New Year s goal! This resolution
will make me more focused and be ready for tests and homework that my teachers throw at me. If I
make this change now then I will not have to worry about it in the future and I will be more on track
and in good shape.
Change is 100% needed in this area because I should be performing at my highest capability.
Homework so far this year in most of my subjects is difficult and sometimes confusing. I am trying to
get good grades in my subjects and so far I am not doing too bad but I need to do work beyond my
ability. If I am having trouble my first instinct is to wait and go ask the teacher the next day, but I fell
like now I should at least try my best and or ask family members for help. School is a #1 priority in
my family and it can pretty much decide where you go. You could go to a great collage and have an
amazing high paying job or

Ith Reference to One Major International Conflict, Analyse...
With reference to one major international conflict, analyse and assess the geographical impacts of
conflicts on the area (40) A conflict is a disagreement caused by the actual or perceived opposition of
needs, values and interests between people; which can vary in intensity from political non violent
activity, to direct action and violence. When a conflict is created an extensive list of geographical
impacts follow, including social, political, environmental or even international impacts. For centuries
there was no such conflict. In the 19th century the land of Palestine was inhabited by a multicultural
population, approximately 86% Muslim, 10% Christian, and 4% Jewish living in peace. However, in

As a result, Palestinians will lose nearly 18% of their share of the basin s water. The sandy desert soil
tends to absorb water and other pollutants such as sewage easily. This along with the groundwater
remaining fairly close to the surface leads to easy contamination. This combined with an aging, poorly
maintained, and now war damaged sewage system, has led to groundwater pollution, which could
severely affect the lives of many. Secondly, the close relation between the social and environmental
impacts that this Middle Eastern conflict is creating for the citizens of both Palestine and Israel
becomes evident. In 2010, UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reported that, almost all of
Gaza s 13,000 families who depend on farming, herding and fishing have suffered damage to their
assets during the recent conflict and many farms have been completely destroyed. Owing to a limited
agricultural production, people in Gaza are facing an acute shortage of nutritious, locally produced
and affordable food. Over 10,000 Palestinian men, women, and children are held in Israeli prisons.
Few of which have had a legitimate trial reporting that Physical abuse and torture are frequent.

Foxconn In China Case Study
China s success in consumer electronic manufacturing can be traced to the creation of special
economic zones in the early 1980s, intended to increase foreign capital and boost exports as the means
to integrate regional and global economies (Chan and Seldon 2013, 103). This capitalism was a sharp
departure from the previous Communist based economic policies that dominated the country for
decades (Ya and O Donnell 2017). The Shenzhen Special Economic Zone (one of four) was
established in May 1980 adjacent to the border with Hong Kong, which was experiencing its own
economic boom (Ngai and Chan 2012, Ya and O Donnell 2017). Manufacturing in the Shenzhen

Grain dependent Henan Providence, which has the largest population of any providence, is largely

economic prosperity in a region of China otherwise extremely poor (Barboza 2016). Zhengzhou is
inseparably linked with the Chinese government; the Foxconn factory there provides a case study of
exclusive economic incentives provided by the government to the company. Based on documents
obtained by the New York Times, these benefits are unlike anything else in the world. For instance, the
Zhengzhou government spent $1 billion dollars on housing for iPhone City s six million people, most
of them Foxconn workers. The $600 million factory itself was largely financed by the government,
and taxes were eliminated for Foxconn for five years. To facilitate rapid exportation of electronics,

To Kill A Mockingbird Analysis
To Kill A Mockingbird takes place during the 1930 s, a time of intense racial inequity and prejudice.
Harper Lee intends for the novel to display the harsh reality to the real world, and exhibit how life and
society were really like during this period in history. Humanity s views and morals have shown little
sign of ever being able to accept change or difference as seen in particular issues such as racism,
discrimination, sexism, prejudice etc. Whilst reading the novel, readers can identify these well known
problems and maybe even relate to some of the ideas that Lee is portraying. Lee uses symbols to
effectively communicate and express her thoughts and opinions on the various themes of the book.
Moreover, these symbols are able to tap into the subconscious mind to implement ideas that can be
analyzed in order to understand their relevance to not only the plot line and major theme topics of the
novel: appearance versus reality, conscience and integrity, and loss of innocence, but also to modern
society. At first glance, Maycomb appears to be a quaint, peaceful town. Lee later proves this to be a
common misconception made by outsiders. Throughout the novel, we come to learn the true nature
and life of Maycomb. Underneath the picture perfect image, there is a disease spreading, infiltrating
and infecting the minds of Maycomb. (pg 117). Jem, I ain t ever heard of a nigger snowman, I said. To
this Jem replies with He won t be black for long. (Lee pg 89) The snowman is a

How does it look in Engineering, Frank?
I ve just reviewed the design for the second time, Frank replied. If Ron Porter can keep the salesmen
out of our hair, and avoid any more last minute changes, we ve got a shot. I ve pulled the draftsmen
off three other overdue jobs to get this one out. But, Dave, that means we can t spring engineers loose
to confer with your production people on manufacturing problems.
Well, Frank, most of those problems are caused by the engineers, and we need them to resolve the
difficulties. We ve all agreed that production bugs come from both of us bowing to sales pressure, and
putting equipment into production before the designs are really ready. That s just what we re trying to
avoid on the 802. But I can t have 500 people sitting on their hands waiting for an answer from your
people. We ll have to have some engineering support.
Bill Hunt broke in, So long as you two can talk calmly about the problem I m confident you can
resolve it. What a relief it is, Frank, to hear the way you re approaching this. With Kilmann (the
previous director of engineering) this conversation would have been a shouting match. Right, Dave?
Dave nodded and smiled.
Now there s one other thing you should both be aware of, Hunt continued. Doc Reeves and I talked
last night about a new filtering technique, one that might improve the signal to noise ratio of the 802
by a factor of two. There s a chance Doc can come up with it

The Function Of Insulin Or Rapid-Acting Insulin Analogs
insulin or rapid acting insulin analogs Preparations included with phenolic excipients serves two
purposes: retaining solution sterility and stabilization of the insulin molecule in the hexameric form to
avoid aggregation(35). These compounds are may cause problems since they are proved to be toxic
and irritant, and are being investigated for their role as sensitizers and carcinogens (36).
Generally the human insulin monomers may assemble into insulin dimer and insulin hexamer which is
more stable than that of dimeric form. Regarding the main function of insulin which is regulating the
uptake of glucose, both insulin dimer and hexamer are inactive in biological environment. However
they are much more stable from conformational viewpoint ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

When phenolic preservatives were depleted insulin glulisine dissociated or broke down from a
structure with higher molecular weight (hexamer) structures into a number of intermediate molecular
weight one, usually between monomer and hexamer, whereas insulin aspart and insulin lispro
separated into monomers and dimmers. The ultimate disintegration of Insulin lispro and aspart was
due to the large extent of their dissociation when they were depleted of their excipients while insulin
glulisine was dissociated to intermediate molecular weight molecules in the absence of the phenol and
m cresol (39).
In general they concluded that insulin degradation was inversely related to the concentration of phenol
and m cresol as phenolic preservatives.
Tissue response and inflammation (cytotoxic effect of insulin with and without excipients)
CD54, CD11b and CD14 are surface proteins considered as markers of inflammatory cell activation.
Weber et al explored these markers to investigate whether the phenol and m cresol could cause the
inflammatory response. In order to study the potential inflammatory effect of phenolic preservatives of
insulin they selected monocytic cell line THP 1. The mentioned cell lines were exposed to sub toxic
concentration of phenol and m cresol as well as insulin analogues formulation for 24 hours. Since they
found that insulin with

culture. Hawaiian culture was certainly well established by 1400 AD, the exciting history and culture
of ancient Hawaii was in full swing!
The Polynesian migration to Hawaii was part of one of the most remarkable achievements of
humanity: the discovery and settlement of the remote, widely scattered islands of the central Pacific.
When European explorers found the islands of Polynesia, the common ancestry of the Polynesians
was evident the inhabitants of widely separated islands looked alike, spoke alike, and had similar
cultural practices. Their manufactured products such as fishhooks, trolling lures, adzes, and ornaments
also revealed similarities. And they had the same basic stock of domesticated plants and animals.
The Polynesian people are considered to be by linguistic, archaeological and human genetic ancestry a
subset of the sea migrating Austronesian people and tracing Polynesian languages places their
prehistoric origins in the Malay Archipelago, and ultimately, in

The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association
The question of whether the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) should separate
public and private schools into their own divisions has been a topic of discussion for years. As a
product of 14 years of Catholic education, I was fortunate enough to be able to participate in athletics
during my high school career. Many of the teams that we played were public school teams from small
communities where athletics were almost more important than an education. Unfortunately, I have
witnessed firsthand the animosity that has surfaced between public and private schools.
The PIAA is the governing body of high school sports in the state of Pennsylvania. The PIAA was
founded in 1913 and initially included only public schools as members. Parochial and private schools
were admitted to the PIAA in the late 1970 s. In 1997, the PA Charter School Act was passed which
allowed for the creation of charter schools. The emergence of charter schools, particularly in the
Philadelphia area, created even greater animosity between private and public schools. The
Philadelphia schools, many of which are charter schools, were not members of the PIAA until 2003.
Their athletic success at the state championship level has raised many concerns from the public sector.
The primary problem that the PIAA faces today is the dominance of private schools winning the
majority of state titles in all sports. Public schools have geographic boundaries that determine the
school a student must

Patriotism In White City
The World s Columbian Exposition, or Chicago World s Fair of 1893 as it came to be known, was the
fair that changed America (Larson). It ushered in a period of great achievements and a sense of
patriotism, as well as civic pride. However, amidst the glorious celebration, there was an evil lurking;
from the murderous Dr. Henry Howard Holmes to the delusions of Patrick Eugene Joseph
Prendergast. Erik Larson tells the story of Chicago s White City (named for the color of the exhibits),
touching upon the lives of those who were affected, and successfully conveying to the reader an image
of a time period that changed the course of America. The White City was used to show the world that
America was not a small nation struggling to get along, but rather a nation that could compete with
any other in every imaginable area. It served as a symbol of American and civic pride. The decision to
hold the exposition came in 1889, after Alexandre Gustave Eiffel unveiled his tower. To America, this

American Pie Summary
Don McLean wrote American Pie to make people cognizant of the plane crash that killed Buddy
Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P Richardson. Through metaphors and allegories, he tries to explain that
the death of these musicians was a sad and almost unholy event that he was grieving severely about. In
it though he also references things that other musicians did in their lifetimes. In the stanza We all got
up to dance/ Oh, but we never got the chance/ Cause the players tried to take the field/ The marching
band refused to yield, it in its entirety is an allegory for how the Beatles were trying to make music
that you would listen to, but not dance to, and then started writing anti violence songs against the
Vietnam protesters, that made some of the protesters question their actions. The players being the

Essay on Ralph´s Metamorphosis in the Lord of the Flies
The novel, Lord of the Flies, is a compelling story displaying the metamorphosis of an individual
when faced with external and internal conflicts. Ralph is the first character to be introduced in the
book. He is the most likeable as he is charming, athletic, and displays strong leadership qualities.
However, as the novel progresses, Ralph loses his sense of civilization and undergoes a change in
character discovering the evil man is capable of. Ralph s metamorphosis is captivating and displays
the inevitable loss of innocence.
To start off, Golding displays Ralph s character development with a deeper meaning connecting Ralph
with Adam in Garden of Eden. In the beginning of the book, Ralph takes his clothes off and goes

However, Ralph argues, You haven t got the conch, Sit down (102). Following his displeasure at Jack
s point he tells the boys, Hasn t anyone got any sense?... don t any of you want to be rescued (102)?
The reader sees the start of abandoning civilization among the boys, although Ralph still believes in
the conch. Therefore Ralph believing in the conch shows that he is still civilized. It is not until the
very end of the novel where Ralph goes down hill with the rest of the boys when the conch is broken.
Mass chaos erupts on the island as Jack and his crew chase Ralph with the island burning in flames.
When the boys are rescued Ralph acknowledges the fall through of civilization. The officer mentions
that they should have put up a better fight. In response, Ralph argues, It was like that at first... before

In addition, to the conch revealing Ralph s abandonment to civilization, Ralph s transformation in hair
coincides with the growth of savagery within him. In the beginning of the novel, Ralph is a well kept
boy. He is described as, The boy with fair hair (7). However, as the novel progresses and Ralph starts
to face internal and external conflicts on the island the reader sees the meaning behind his hair. When
the rules on the island are put aside, the other boys start to hunt and use their power for killing. In the

Creating Artificial Heart Research
This paper will present to you the current developments in the area of creating artificial hearts.
Artificial hearts are synthetically made devices designed to replace flesh and blood hearts when they
no longer work to their full capacity. Researchers have created many artificial hearts that are suitable
for assisting the heart when half of the heart is no longer functioning well, but they have not yet
created an artificial heart that can function in place of a heart for a person s entire life. This topic is
interesting and gives scientists a better understanding of how our heart functions and how to replicate
those functions to prolong people s lives. This paper will present the research in a chronological order
of discoveries. Human hearts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was a failure, however scientists have discovered since then that pig hearts are relatively effective
for heart transplantation (Maher, 2013). The first electronically powered artificial heart was
transplanted into a human in 1991. Electronically powered hearts are powered by a battery pack inside
the heart. They are easier to manage, make no noise and are usually rechargeable through the skin.
Since then, most artificial hearts have become electronically powered. In the early 1900s, researchers,
finding they had created multiple artificial hearts that functioned correctly, focused their attention on
creating a smaller, but just as powerful artificial heart for children and small adults. DeBakey
Ventricular Assist Device is one of those. The device was created out of a collaboration of DeBakey
and NASA, and is a tenth the size of most artificial hearts. It only requires 8 watts of power to
function, and it can be recharged through the skin. This artificial heart was rather successful, and most
likely saved many lives ( Artificial Heart Invention ,

Homelessness Issues In Canada
The Problem:
We have experienced many homelessness issues here in Canada. Recently, in 2014, the Canadian
Observatory on Homelessness estimated that almost 35,000 Canadians were homeless every night and
an estimated 235,000 Canadians experience homelessness each year. Many Canadians meet the
requirements for hidden homelessness. The requirements include: sheltered people and families who
temporarily live in their relative s homes in order to avoid living on streets; women and children
experiencing domestic violence; people sleeping in abandoned buildings and families living in
unsustainable housing due to evacuations. Unfortunately, here in Ontario, we have one of the highest
rates of homelessness for a major province in Canada.
For instance, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

homelessness. After analyzing the needs of the homeless people in our community, our province have
decided to implement laws and regulations to make housing accessible and affordable for all
Ontarians.
Solution:
This is not the first time that we have worked to achieve affordable housing. In fact, in 2003, we
invested in more than $4 billion for social housing. Now, we are determined to invest more and create
more sustainable housing to ensure that homelessness will not be an issue in the future.
Our goal is to end homelessness in 10 years by creating a framework for a portable housing for people
to receive housing assistance flexibility to choose where to live. For this reason, we are proposing
legislation for inclusionary zoning because it would enable municipalities to ensure affordable
housing. Ontario has updated the Long Term Affordable Strategy legislation, which was implemented
in 2010, because we want to implement people centered housing program and provide municipalities
with flexibility to meet local needs in the community. We are introducing new legislative and policy
measures by investing $178 million over the

Radiation and chemotherapy may only partially penetrate a tumor; remaining malignant tissue will
allow the cancer to reoccur within the patient. Incomplete tumor removal is a risk associated with
surgical removal of cancerous tissue.3 Additionally, studies have shown that radiation promotes
cancerous cell growth. Radiation promotes a cellular process known as autophagy, which supports
metabolic functions while a cell is living with some sort of environmental stress. Typically, the cell
will degrade longstanding organelles and proteins to recycle the molecular units of macromolecules.
This becomes an alternate source of nutrients during cell survival. Within a premalignant cell,
autophagy will prevent a cell from replicating if it is cancerous. Once the cell has become malignant,
it is living under environmentally stress induced by hypoxia and nutrient depletion. Malignant cells
are dependent of autophagy for survival, and radiation promotes autophagy; this, radiation promotes
cancer.4 Current cancer treatments have high risks of harsh side effects and a high probability of
reoccurring cancer. There is an urgent need for new anticancer therapies; compounds derived from the
natural products of bacteria and fungi have been investigated as a possible solution. The natural
product industry gained popularity around1970 1980 and the primary focus is to determine the

Who Is Walter Mitty In Third Person
When I write I almost always go with third person narrative. It s easy, creates good imagery, and it
gives the author more freedom. I believe, in part, that this is why James Thurber write this story in
third person. However, I also believe that third person simply fit better with what he was trying to
convey about Walter Mitty, the titular main character.
Firstly, as I said before, James Thurber possibly could have written Walter Mitty s story in third person
because it allowed him to tell the story in a way that was easy to understand and so that we could get a
good understanding of Walter s mind. Walter is a forgetful, daydreaming, ordinary guy. He s bossed
around by those in his life and to make up for this he creates fantasies throughout they day in which he
is extraordinary and beloved by everyone. Third person allows Thurber to smoothly transition between
his fantasies and reality. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Food has to be broken down by the body from things like broccoli and steak into pieces. The nutrients
that the body takes from these foods include amino acids from the proteins, fatty acids and cholesterol
from the fats, and simple sugars from the carbohydrates, as well as all the vitamins, mineral, and other
types of compounds. Digestive enzymes in the pancreas and the small intestine break down the food
into nutrients so that the body can absorb them. They are also located in the saliva glands and the
stomach; however, we are not going to focus on those.
Digestive Enzyme Deficiency
It is important to know that when a person has a digestive enzyme deficiency, it could mean that the
person has a disease that is preventing the production. Issues that are caused by the deficiency include:
Pancreatic problems that include cystic fibrosis, acute or chronic pancreatitis, and pancreatic cancer.
It can also cause Crohn s disease.
Reasons for the Deficiency
Low grade inflammation located in the digestive tract can lead to the deficiency.
Aging can be a cause of the deficiency.
It can be caused by low stomach acid.
Chronic stress can also cause the deficiency due to the fight or flight response.
Signs of Deficiency

Conglomerates In The United States
Describe the difference between a corporation and a conglomerate.
A corporation is independently owned by shareholders; they are larger companies with multiple
employees. Some examples of corporations would be; airline companies, soda companies, Google,
Hasbro and many more. A conglomerate is a large corporation that has several smaller companies.
Business associated with a conglomerate are unrelated and offer different products or services. John
Rockefeller of Standard Oil, Alfred Sloan of General Motors and Gerald Swope of General Electric
are some of the business tycoons credited with revolutionizing business practices, which contributed
to the organization of today s conglomerates. (Keefer).
Consider the ethics of media conglomerates in the United States. What are the ethical advantages and
disadvantages of allowing large conglomerates to control the mass media? What are alternative ways
the media might be organized that would be more ethical or moral? Explain your reasoning using both
concepts from the course and academic resources. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

would be reduced. Another advantage would be, what works for the people, works for the media. We
all know that the media works to promote ads to make a profit, but the only way to do this is to offer
what the people want. A disadvantage would be if we allow large conglomerates to control the mass
media, the media would be more loyal to their advertisers and sponsors, rather than the viewers.
Another disadvantage would be the lack of competing viewpoints and perspectives. (Solanki). I think
an alternative method of operating would be that if they acted like one entity, delivering better quality

Professor Anton Weichselbaum was able to determine a cause of meningitis: a bacterium called
Neisseria meningitides. Penicillin was first used to combat meningitis in 1944, and in 1978, a vaccine

is a pathenogenic, gram negative aerobe, which resides primarily in mucous membranes. The shape of

Viral meningitis is more common, but not nearly as severe (8). It is hardly ever fatal and mostly
caused by enteroviruses. Other viruses can induce a person to contract viral meningitis. These include:
mumps, herpes, measles, and varicella zoster. Even an infection from a mosquito bite could potentially

by Cryptococcus and Candida. The people affected with fungal meningitis are mostly those who have
an inadequate immune system (3). A person may not know he or she has meningitis right away. Many
symptoms are analogous to the flu. These symptoms include a stiff neck, headache, fever, chills,
nausea, light sensitivity, and possible changes in mental state (8). Even after a person recovers from

Charlemagne Essay
After reading two versions of The Life of Charlemagne , one written by a person who lived with
Charlemagne, and one who didn t, it is evident that Charlemagne is portrayed in a negative way by the
author, the Monk of St. Gall, and in a positive way by Einhard. Einhard was very close to
Charlemagne. He lived at the same time and with Charlemagne himself. His version of The Life of
Charlemagne was writing right after his death. The Monk of St. Gall wrote his version more than 70
years after Charlemagne s death. He did not live with or even at the same time as Charlemagne. This

Altogether, Charlemagne s rule was a successful one and Charlemagne rarely, if ever, made mistakes
according to Einhard.
In St. Gall s version of The Life of Charlemagne the author does not give any background information
at all. The reason St. Gall is writing this version of Charlemagne s life is to blame him for the attacks
going on at present times. He gives no information about Charlemagne s family or ancestors. The
author immediately begins to start his complaining about how Charlemagne basically did nothing
good for the empire he was ruling. After the omnipotent ruler of the world, who orders alike the fate of
kingdoms and the course of time, had broken the feet of iron and clay in one noble statue, to wit the
Romans, he raised by the hands of the illustrious Charles the golden head of another, not less
admirable, among the Franks . At the beginning of this quote, Einhard is praising Charlemagne. St.
Gall is placing Charlemagne at the same level as the Romans, saying God has raised up Charlemagne
to succeed them. Then, at the end of the quote, it is unclear why St. Gall says that the bishop falls of
his horse. To me, this seems some sort of a negative passage making the reader think Charlemagne is
somewhat incompetent. This being the first entry in this author s text, it immediately gives off a
negative feeling towards Charlemagne. The reader immediately has a negative bias towards
Charlemagne

George Orwell Use Of Conformity In 1984
A rebel is a person who rises in opposition against an established government; a person who refuses
allegiance to and resists a ruling party. Every society s set of rules and regulations evokes the inner
insurgent of a minority; George Orwell s dystopia demonstrates the execution of pursuing ones
rebellious tendencies and the unconscious destruction that follows. In George Orwell s 1984, Orwell
juxtaposes rebellion and conformity by using various techniques. The portrayal of London, the Prole
District and the Golden Country, the contrast between the Parson s family unit and Winston s
relationship with Julia along with the depiction of mind versus body are all ways in which Orwell
chooses to analogize rebellion and conformity.
Within Orwell s dystopia, London, the Golden Country and the Prole District play large roles in the
way Winston and Julia not only act, but also speak of themselves and the Inner Party. London is a
concrete jungle where, ...there seemed to be no colour in anything except the posters that were

he could establish connections that join the wine consumers and the wine producers, such as

The first of three issues the network was obligated to focus on was customer acquisition. The growth
of users, both individuals and wineries, on the network is what supported the growth of the network
and community. In fact, without the user base, there would be no growth of the network and no
revenue generation. It was evident that neither Vaynerchuk nor Ronga knew how to draw individual
users or wineries to the network and consistently reinforce growth in this area. In particular, there was
a lack of understanding of the growth relationship of individual users and wineries such as balancing
recruiting efforts and the ability to grow the two groups simultaneously. Also, the resources that were
used in the case of recruiting were heavily dedicated to recruiting wineries and not even with
individual users. Though, they had periods of strong user and winery growth that were defined by the
marketing strategies that they used. However, it was not enough in drawing long term growth of the

All my life my family has encouraged me to do what I love and, to never let anyone or anything make
me feel like I wasn t good enough. Failing my C.N.A exam set me back in ways that are painful for
me to think of. I ve learned now that I should have never gave up on myself. Losing my confidence,
happiness, desires and, motivation to failure was the worst thing I have felt in my life. For instance
when I failed that exam I went on a downward spiral for two messy years, I wasn t happy with my
studies and, I was never happy where I was working.
During the course of the two years, that followed failing my exam joy was difficult to find. In that
period of time everything just felt like what s the point of trying? I honestly had no idea of ... Show

I can honestly say that I am much more content with myself, I regained my confidence and decided to
enroll to Keiser University. Going back to school after having let myself be knocked down so hard
that my dreams were completely obliterated feels monumental for me. Honestly I can say that today I
am so proud of myself. From completely giving up on myself and allowing myself to settle for less, to
once again striving for my true passion is incredible to me. This has been one of the most difficult
obstacles I have had to overcome in my life. Failing my C.N.A exam had impacted my life in such a

The Gay as a Literary Figure in The Picture of Dorian Gray
This paper shall explore the gay as a literary figure based on Oscar Wilde s The Picture of Dorian
Gray. The aim of the essay is threefold. Firstly, to show how the gay is related to two of the most
potent archetypal images: those of Dionysos and Apollo. Secondly, to demonstrate that the Wildean
gay is profoundly afraid of life, and that his interest in form and aesthetic proportion rests on a
principle of evasion. Thirdly, to contend that the humor in this novel, and by extension also in Wilde s
plays, is a symptom of the author s fascination with an archetypal gay.
The Picture of Dorian Gray revolves around Dorian s dual nature. On the one hand, he is the ... Show

(Book IV, lines 17 ff.)
It is extraordinary how many of these epithets, such Ovid s puer aeternus, also describe Dorian, and
Dorian, but these parallels are unlikely to have been intended. That Dorian is invested with the
attributes of Dionysos is, however, corroborated in the novel. The morning after he cold bloodedly
turns his back on Sibyl Vane, he checks to see whether Basil s portrait has really altered. It has and he
immediately understands what this signifies for him:
Eternal youth, infinite passion, pleasures subtle and secret, wild joys and wilder sins he was to have all
these things. The portrait was to bear the burden of his shame: that was all. (105)
The young man who realizes this has known only the passions of an adolescent s dreams. In other
words, he believes that, under normal circumstances, such pleasures would stain him, not only
morally, but physically. And so he prays that he may enjoy every pleasure which life can offer him,
and yet remain unmarked by his experience. Such passions as those he wants to enjoy are associated
with Dionysos. This is confirmed toward the end of the novel, when Lord Henry, following their
discussion of Basil s murder, says to Dorian:
You have drunk deeply of

Escitalopram Case Study
Escitalopram is an antidepressant approved by the FDA for treatment of major depressive disorder
(MDD) or generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). Development of escitalopram, achieved by
collaboration of Lundbeck and Forest Laboratories, began in the summer of 1997 and took only 3.5
years. The first patients participated in studies for marketing authorization in summer of 1999, and the
first clinical results were published in December 2000. A year later, in December 2001, Lundbeck
received Swedish approval for the treatment of depression and panic disorder. By May of 2002, the
product had been approved in many European countries thanks to the European Mutual Recognition
Procedure. Meanwhile, in March 2001 Forest submitted a New Drug Application ... Show more

Therefore, escitalopram has been claimed to be a more potent antidepressant than a racemic mixture,
citalopram, of the two enantiomers. Researchers from Lundbeck tried to explain this phenomenon by
proposing that escitalopram enhances its own binding by interacting with another allosteric site on the
transporter. However, additional research showed that (R) citalopram also enhances the binding of
escitalopram, so allosteric interaction cannot explain the observed counteracting effect. Of the SSRIs
currently on the market, escitalopram has the highest affinity for the serotonin transporter, and thus
has a relatively mild side effect profile. Some of the more commonly reported side effects are
diarrhea, drowsiness, headache, ejaculatory disorder, nausea, insomnia, and delayed ejaculation. More
include anorgasmia, constipation, fatigue, dizziness, and decreased libido. Many side effects affect the
reproductive system, probably because serotonin also plays a role in sexual desire and function. Other
SSRIs that may be used as antidepressants include Zoloft, Celexa, Paxil, and Prozac. Other common
antidepressants include Wellbutrin and Xanax, and Abilify is commonly used in combination with

The Economic Health Of The World Is Not Dependent On Just One
The economic health of the world is not dependent on just one thing . There is no single variable that
can be narrowed down that is responsible for the ups and downs that we as a global economy
experience in any given day, month, or year. Instead, the health of the global economy is heavily
reliant on the amount of effort that is put into keeping and maintaining it. How is this done? By
making sure that we are all on the same page and working toward a similar goal. One of the bigger
problems that the world is facing right now, however, is that each individual country s goals might not
necessarily line up the way others might want them to. What would be a good and successful plan for
the United States might not necessarily be beneficial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in terms of the country composition for the slowed growth rate, the revisions are largely
accounted for by the Middle East, the United States, and Brazil: the Middle East, where prospects are
hurt by lower oil prices; the United States, where growth momentum is now expected to hold steady
rather than gather further steam; and Brazil, where the recession caused by political uncertainty
amongst continued fallout from the Petrobras investigation is proving to be deeper and more extensive
than previously expected. All these events pave the way down one of two roads the first being down a
road of global economic prosperity, the second being down a road of global economic loss. So how
exactly do the events happening in Brazil have such huge impacts on global economic welfare? Brazil
s economy has been suffering for quite some time now. The country, part of the BRIC (Brazil, Russia,
India, and China) grouping, was supposed to bring in a new wave of economic prosperity through
abounding growth rates through the coming years. It was successful for a while when it experienced
impressive growth rates on its commodities and energy exports; however, once China s economy
started to slow down, Brazil s slowly

Cave Allegory
Biographical information: Plato was one of the earliest ancient Greek philosophers who lived from
427 to 347 B.C. He was a student of Socrates, who was also a prominent Greek philosopher at that
time. Socrates had a massive influence on Plato, who called him the most upright man of that day
(The Seventh Letter). Plato adopted his philosophy and dedicated his studies to formation of a noble
character. Born in Athens to a family of aristocrats, Plato attained an exceptional education, most
likely taught by notable educators such as Pythagoras and Parmenides. With the help of these scholars,
Plato began the basis on which he developed a foundation for the study of epistemology and
metaphysics, which connects to his famous cave allegory. Between ... Show more content on

In the cave allegory, a man is bound in a cave, which represents misunderstanding, and facing a wall
his entire life with a fire burning behind him. From this fire, he sees shadows and hears people passing
by, so he believes people are two dimensional beings, this is known as perception. This shows that
knowledge gained through the senses is based on opinion. Only the enlightened ones will break free
from the restraints and turn around to see what the shadows really are. These people are called
philosopher kings. Based on this allegory, these men are not evil, but rather ignorant. They may not
perceive racism as immoral based on several factors such as how and where they were raised and their
experiences, but through philosophical reasoning it can be determined that what they were doing is
wrong. Plato believed in civil disobedience, which is disobeying the law on moral grounds. Carl Lee
Hailey took the law into his own hands because he knew of a previous case similar to his where justice
was not served. Plato would see this as moral because the outcome would not have been just. In
addition, the men in the KKK would use religion as an excuse to carry out unjust

Modern Social Norms In Shakespeare s Twelfth Night
Although written over four centuries ago, Shakespeare s play Twelfth Night successfully portrays
modern social norms. Still going on today, people feel the need to change who they are due to
opinions of others around them. The social aspects of the Renaissance still parallel those of the
present. The paranoia of people believing they need to be someone else has stayed constant throughout
the past five centuries because of society s influence on people. Using cultural and social criticism,
readers can see how in Shakespeare s Twelfth Night that people use deception to mask their identity
when they are in love, they are in need and they are insecure. The main idea behind the intricate love
combinations of Twelfth Night is that people change who they are to be with the ones they love. This
love story isn t similar to the usual Shakespearean play. Compare to the usual tragedy he writes,
Shakespeare changed the tone of this story to comedy. But the main difference of this play to others, is
the ending. Shakespeare finishes the story of in a happy ending where everyone gets what they want
without dying. According to Tan, The proper axis of desire is thus crisscrossed by improper ones. ...

The Declaration Of Sentiments And Resolutions
Feminism in the United States:
The Declaration of Sentiments
Kyron Brown
History 2010 W9
Professor Pennig
November 26, 2014 Introduction
In the year 1848, Elizabeth Cady Stanton conveyed to the audience of the Seneca Falls Convention the
Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions . The Declaration of Sentiments was written with the
purpose of demanding civil freedom for women and of righting the wrongs of society. The Declaration
included events where women s rights were being oppressed and violated and where laws were giving
special treatment to men. It also included the resolutions they demanded on these particular cases.
In addition, the Declaration was written due to the fact that women in all parts of the globe were being
oppressed for many years. The women in many countries, just like in the United States of America,
were given a limited set of rights in the society compared to their male counterparts. One great
example of this was the women s suffrage in the United States, which was not inherently given to
them until its national enactment in the year 1920.
Analysis
The document was specifically written for women and the events that revolved around their poor
conditions in the past. It was also evident that one of its objectives was to promote and endorse
feminism. This was due to the fact that women in America were being oppressed up until the mid 20th
century. As Martha C. Wright indicated, the American women at the time, specifically the wives,

A Constructivist approach according to Wenglisnky, H.,(2005) will use technology to help a student
better learn and understand a given topic, using visual aids, programs etc. While a didactic will do the
complete opposite. It will combine the larger picture of a scenario, going into advanced and more
complicated problems that the student can understand.
Aside from the teaching methods used in a technology based education system. There is always
constructive ways to use technology as well as unconstructive ways. In a classroom environment a
teacher may ask students to do research on a given topic, while setting standards of plagiarism and
showing students how to complete research at an early age. It can also be beneficial for students to
familiarize themselves with commonly used programs and software used in today s work industry,
such as Microsoft word and power point. It can give the student the ease and facility to find the
resources needed at his fingertips.
At the same time it can be very un constructive for a student if he or she uses technology in a
classroom for entertainment and media. While most schools and universities do a very good job in
filtering their systems so that students do not access these websites, student always find a way to get to
them. It is also possible that the use of a computer or technology can limit a student in certain
instances. For instance, a student may be given an assignment to

Introduction Of The Bank Of England
Introduction
The Bank of England has been playing the role of issuing banknotes since 1694. Until middle of the
19th century, a number of private banks in the Great Britain and Ireland gained freedom of issuing
their own banknotes, while the notes issued by the provincial banking companies commonly under
circulation. Over the years, a number of Acts of Parliament were subject to introduce by the UK
Parliament in order to increase confidence in the banknotes that were in circulation through limiting
on the rights of banks in issuing notes. This concept leads to general idea of this paper, which will
look at the evolution of output, inflation, the official bank rate set by the Bank of England and
government spending in the UK (Greer, 2009).
It is fascinating for one to track on how the global financial integration has been evolving for the past
century. Understanding the evolution of output is possible by looking at the measured stocks of the
external assets and liabilities; together with the cumulative consequences of the past cross border
capital flows. Global integration of trade and finance started prior to the World War I, at the time when
the capital liberalization was last at their peak. Both global integration of trade and finance fell during
the interwar years, with the national protectionism leading to the creation of trade and financial
barriers. From 1960s and onwards, both trade and finance started rising once more due to the lofting
on a number of restrictions

  • 2. Music, The Orchestra, And The Romantic Symphony Since the beginning of the semester, I have learned three concepts about music in western civilization. The 3 concepts I have learned is elements of music, the orchestra, and the romantic symphony. Theses concept are very interesting to me because I don t have any type of musical background and I got the chance to learn about how music really started. There are many elements I learn when it comes to making an orchestra and composing a music program. An orchestra is a group of musicians that come together to make background music for a TV show or movie. During the class, I learn that they also provide concerts, ballets, and opera to the public. According to English online.at The word orchestra was first used by the ancient Greeks and meant the front part of a stage. During the Middle Ages, it also included the musicians on the stage. The orchestra has a lot of history that goes back to the late 6th and early 7th century. The orchestra group was organized by the kings and queens of Italian and French churches. They used string instruments to perform at dance parties, ballet, and operas. This is fascinating that the orchestra music goes back as far as the late 6th century. I could see how Beethoven, Smetana, Tchaikovsky and among other have made amazing orchestral music and how they were influenced by it. When the orchestra is playing it could have 10 or more instruments. During class, I learn that when we talk about the orchestra it usually means a symphony orchestra. A ... During this whole time computers have shrinked tremendously in size and now can be carried in pocket and as a wearable object. Wearable technology provides human enhancement in personal level and offers several opportunities in enterprise. It is essential to understand the history, evolution and other enabling technologies to effectively adopt and improve the use of wearable technologies. History and evolution of Wearable Technology: The first form of wearable technologies was probably the wrist watch, which was designed to provide a particular service to the users, was invented as early as the late 1500s. Then the portable radio, later evolved into the Walkman which was also perpetuated because of users desire to have access to a particular service all the time. These desires for continuous access of services have pervaded the development of most of the wearable technologies. The development of computers has exhibited a progression towards mobility and portability, from massive mainframe computers to desktops to laptops, to PDA s and to wristwatch computers which were ... • 4. Heterosexuality Katz Summary Jasmine Thomas Kardina 2/5/16 Summary #1 Katz This article is about heterosexuality and it talks about homos vs. hetero and how it s different in other culture. Katz goal of this article to get people to have open minds about the name heterosexuality . He wants to remove the idea of heterosexuality from the realm of the taken for granted, subjecting it to the dangers of analysis and the possibility of critique (67). To me this article make the readers open their mind up to things they never properly thought of and think out of their own boxes. Makes them think what hereto and homo people are like and how they live their lives. Katz goes back to the 19th century and talks about the history back then and how sexuality wasn t a ... • 5. Self Reflection And Professional Development In my journey of becoming a professional teacher, the main two events which took place in my life were self reflection and professional development. In my opinion, self reflection is to reflect back and think about what I have done in order to develop myself. As it is written in the Collaborative website of the MCH Training Grantee Network, self reflection is the way of evaluating the effect of our values, style of thinking and communicating and experience. Also the process of self reflecting helps to develop people s culture, skills and principles since these may affect the future actions and learning. There are many benefits of self reflection. It helps teachers to give a clear picture of what they have done before in their life. And what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As professional learning association in the year 2015 states, professional development is defined to be the basic tool that education institutes can use to help the teaching staff continuously learn and develop their skills and knowledge. According to Guskey. T, (2010), high quality professional development is the major element in nearly every modern proposal for improving education, The primary purpose of professional development is to prepare and support teachers by giving them the knowledge and skills they need to help all students achieve high standards of learning and development (U.S. Department of Education, 1996). Professional development is not a one day job. It should be a continuous thing if teachers want to become knowledgeable. In the early days, to refresh teachers, weekly workshops or seminars were conducted which was not very effective. Now the trend has changed. It became a continuous process. All the trainings that are carried out including course level ones are also known as professional development. Teachers gain a lot of knowledge, training and experience from those ... • 6. The Sunni-Shia Conflict The historic background of the Sunni Shia lies in the schism that occurred when the Islamic prophet Mohammed died in the 632, leading to a dispute over succession to Mohammed as a caliph of the Islamic community spread across various parts of the world, which led to the battel of Safin. The dispute intensified greatly after the battle of Karbala, in which Hussein ibn ail and his household were killed by the ruling Umayyad caliph Yazidi, and the outcry for revenge divided the early Islamic community. Today, there are differences in religious practice, traditions, and customs, often related to jurisprudence. Although all Muslims groups consider the Quran to be divine, Sunni and Shia have different opinions on hadith. Over the years, Sunni relations have been marked by both ... Shia Islam: Shia Islam encompasses most Muslims who are not counted the Sunni. The division between Sunni and Shia, dates to the death of the prophet Mohammed when his followers were faced with the decision of who would be his successors as the leader of Islam s. Shiites are those followed Ali, the closest relatives of Mohammed, as Muhammad s successor. Today there are approximately 120 million Shiite Muslims in the world. • 7. Power In Dracula The Gothic world is fascinated by the struggle for power . In light of this statement, discuss the ways in which writers present types of power. Gothic writers are fascinated by power struggles, but often shock readers by reversing conventional power differences. Examples of this include the power of rationality against religion, and the female voice and sexuality being powerful, highly controversial topics during the Victorian era. These power struggles often reflect the writer s own experiences and views, for example Poe frequently presents power struggles between humans and the supernatural due to losing his loved ones, and mental illness. Similarly, in Dracula , Stoker portrays the supernatural as powerful, but with strong sexual undertones, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Carter uses sexual dominance in The Bloody Chamber as a metaphor for women s social inequality with He in his London tailoring; she, bare as a lamb chop . The separation of the pronoun she represents the isolation forced upon her by her overbearing husband. The girl is also mentioned after the Marquis in this sentence, showing how she ranks after him and has no control now that she s married. Women are often seen as passive as the Marquis assesses the girl with the eyes of a connoisseur , implying that she is an object to be owned and lusted after. Sivyer writes the man assumes an active and dominant role whilst his bride is positioned as passive . Her passivity is shown when she says He made me put on my choker , she was forced to do it and offered no resistance. The choker itself represents her captivity as it s similar to a collar, implying that the Marquis is her owner, also exemplified as he calls her my little nun . This condescension mocks the girl for her innocence, asserting the Marquis s dominance, but also the possessive pronoun my shows ownership; he believes that his wife belongs to him. Interestingly, Dracula uses similar possessive language to assert power over another male (Jonathan), exclaiming This man belongs to me! This declarative statement shows that he has decided that Jonathan is his property, showing his desire for dominance and possession to exhibit his power. His wickedness is ... • 10. My Resolution For New Year Every year my family and I count down to the new year, this year I am came up with a resolution that I can keep with myself for a long time and use it until I am out of school all the way up to collage. New Year has always seemed to be a fresh start of a new cycle, this year I hope my resolution shall be one of the best one! My new year s resolution for 2018 is to do better in school and to think outside the box when it comes to schoolwork. This has been something that I have been trying to reach since Middle school and I am still trying even harder to do my very best in school now. There is also still some improvements that I need to make in school, like if I do bad on a test I know for next time to study real good for that subject. However, I am going to start off this year the right way by not only setting my goal, but also making sure I achieve each and every one of them. This year I aim to focus on getting remarkable grades and staying focused in school no matter how boring and long it is. I plan to do better in school than I did in 2017. Just some things I have to stay on top of is studying and doing well on my homework no matter how long it takes. When I take tests I have to be careful and pick the best possible answer, again that s where the studying should pay off. If I am able to do everything I said then I should be sure to achieve my New Year s goal! This resolution will make me more focused and be ready for tests and homework that my teachers throw at me. If I make this change now then I will not have to worry about it in the future and I will be more on track and in good shape. Change is 100% needed in this area because I should be performing at my highest capability. Homework so far this year in most of my subjects is difficult and sometimes confusing. I am trying to get good grades in my subjects and so far I am not doing too bad but I need to do work beyond my ability. If I am having trouble my first instinct is to wait and go ask the teacher the next day, but I fell like now I should at least try my best and or ask family members for help. School is a #1 priority in my family and it can pretty much decide where you go. You could go to a great collage and have an amazing high paying job or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Ith Reference to One Major International Conflict, Analyse... With reference to one major international conflict, analyse and assess the geographical impacts of conflicts on the area (40) A conflict is a disagreement caused by the actual or perceived opposition of needs, values and interests between people; which can vary in intensity from political non violent activity, to direct action and violence. When a conflict is created an extensive list of geographical impacts follow, including social, political, environmental or even international impacts. For centuries there was no such conflict. The sandy desert soil tends to absorb water and other pollutants such as sewage easily. This along with the groundwater remaining fairly close to the surface leads to easy contamination. This combined with an aging, poorly maintained, and now war damaged sewage system, has led to groundwater pollution, which could severely affect the lives of many. Secondly, the close relation between the social and environmental impacts that this Middle Eastern conflict is creating for the citizens of both Palestine and Israel becomes evident. In 2010, UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reported that, almost all of Gaza s 13,000 families who depend on farming, herding and fishing have suffered damage to their assets during the recent conflict and many farms have been completely destroyed. Owing to a limited agricultural production, people in Gaza are facing an acute shortage of nutritious, locally produced and affordable food. • 13. Foxconn In China Case Study China s success in consumer electronic manufacturing can be traced to the creation of special economic zones in the early 1980s, intended to increase foreign capital and boost exports as the means to integrate regional and global economies (Chan and Seldon 2013, 103). This capitalism was a sharp departure from the previous Communist based economic policies that dominated the country for decades (Ya and O Donnell 2017). The Shenzhen Special Economic Zone (one of four) was established in May 1980 adjacent to the border with Hong Kong, which was experiencing its own economic boom (Ngai and Chan 2012, Ya and O Donnell 2017). The Zhengzhou factory, however, is an outlier: a global symbol of foreign capitalism and economic prosperity in a region of China otherwise extremely poor (Barboza 2016). Zhengzhou is inseparably linked with the Chinese government; the Foxconn factory there provides a case study of exclusive economic incentives provided by the government to the company. Based on documents obtained by the New York Times, these benefits are unlike anything else in the world. For instance, the Zhengzhou government spent $1 billion dollars on housing for iPhone City s six million people, most of them Foxconn workers. The $600 million factory itself was largely financed by the government, and taxes were eliminated for Foxconn for five years. To facilitate rapid exportation of electronics, customs is located directly outside the factory s perimeter. An airport is nearby, in which the Zhengzhou government will be pumping $10 billion into. • 14. To Kill A Mockingbird Analysis To Kill A Mockingbird takes place during the 1930 s, a time of intense racial inequity and prejudice. Harper Lee intends for the novel to display the harsh reality to the real world, and exhibit how life and society were really like during this period in history. Humanity s views and morals have shown little sign of ever being able to accept change or difference as seen in particular issues such as racism, discrimination, sexism, prejudice etc. Whilst reading the novel, readers can identify these well known problems and maybe even relate to some of the ideas that Lee is portraying. Lee uses symbols to effectively communicate and express her thoughts and opinions on the various themes of the book. The Model 802 wide band modulator, released for production the previous Thursday, had just come back to Frank s Engineering Services Department with a caustic note that began, This one can t be produced, either. . . . It was the fourth time Production had kicked the design back. Frank Forbus, director of engineering for Rondell Data Corp., was normally a quiet man. If Ron Porter can keep the salesmen out of our hair, and avoid any more last minute changes, we ve got a shot. I ve pulled the draftsmen off three other overdue jobs to get this one out. But, Dave, that means we can t spring engineers loose to confer with your production people on manufacturing problems. Well, Frank, most of those problems are caused by the engineers, and we need them to resolve the difficulties. We ve all agreed that production bugs come from both of us bowing to sales pressure, and putting equipment into production before the designs are really ready. That s just what we re trying to avoid on the 802. But I can t have 500 people sitting on their hands waiting for an answer from your people. We ll have to have some engineering support. Bill Hunt broke in, So long as you two can talk calmly about the problem I m confident you can resolve it. What a relief it is, Frank, to hear the way you re approaching this. The Function Of Insulin Or Rapid-Acting Insulin Analogs insulin or rapid acting insulin analogs Preparations included with phenolic excipients serves two purposes: retaining solution sterility and stabilization of the insulin molecule in the hexameric form to avoid aggregation(35). These compounds are may cause problems since they are proved to be toxic and irritant, and are being investigated for their role as sensitizers and carcinogens (36). Generally the human insulin monomers may assemble into insulin dimer and insulin hexamer which is more stable than that of dimeric form. When phenolic preservatives were depleted insulin glulisine dissociated or broke down from a structure with higher molecular weight (hexamer) structures into a number of intermediate molecular weight one, usually between monomer and hexamer, whereas insulin aspart and insulin lispro separated into monomers and dimmers. The ultimate disintegration of Insulin lispro and aspart was due to the large extent of their dissociation when they were depleted of their excipients while insulin glulisine was dissociated to intermediate molecular weight molecules in the absence of the phenol and m cresol (39). In general they concluded that insulin degradation was inversely related to the concentration of phenol and m cresol as phenolic preservatives. Tissue response and inflammation (cytotoxic effect of insulin with and without excipients) CD54, CD11b and CD14 are surface proteins considered as markers of inflammatory cell activation. The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association The question of whether the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) should separate public and private schools into their own divisions has been a topic of discussion for years. As a product of 14 years of Catholic education, I was fortunate enough to be able to participate in athletics during my high school career. Many of the teams that we played were public school teams from small communities where athletics were almost more important than an education. Unfortunately, I have witnessed firsthand the animosity that has surfaced between public and private schools. The PIAA is the governing body of high school sports in the state of Pennsylvania. The PIAA was founded in 1913 and initially included only public schools as members. Parochial and private schools were admitted to the PIAA in the late 1970 s. In 1997, the PA Charter School Act was passed which allowed for the creation of charter schools. The emergence of charter schools, particularly in the Philadelphia area, created even greater animosity between private and public schools. The Philadelphia schools, many of which are charter schools, were not members of the PIAA until 2003. Their athletic success at the state championship level has raised many concerns from the public sector. The primary problem that the PIAA faces today is the dominance of private schools winning the majority of state titles in all sports. Typically, the cell will degrade longstanding organelles and proteins to recycle the molecular units of macromolecules. This becomes an alternate source of nutrients during cell survival. Within a premalignant cell, autophagy will prevent a cell from replicating if it is cancerous. Einhard was very close to Charlemagne. He lived at the same time and with Charlemagne himself. His version of The Life of Charlemagne was writing right after his death. The Monk of St. Gall wrote his version more than 70 years after Charlemagne s death. He did not live with or even at the same time as Charlemagne. This is probably one of the reasons the view on the ruler are completely different. The reason Einhard wrote his biography of Charlemagne was to explain to the world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Altogether, Charlemagne s rule was a successful one and Charlemagne rarely, if ever, made mistakes according to Einhard. In St. Gall s version of The Life of Charlemagne the author does not give any background information at all. The reason St. Gall is writing this version of Charlemagne s life is to blame him for the attacks going on at present times. He gives no information about Charlemagne s family or ancestors. The author immediately begins to start his complaining about how Charlemagne basically did nothing good for the empire he was ruling. After the omnipotent ruler of the world, who orders alike the fate of kingdoms and the course of time, had broken the feet of iron and clay in one noble statue, to wit the Romans, he raised by the hands of the illustrious Charles the golden head of another, not less admirable, among the Franks . At the beginning of this quote, Einhard is praising Charlemagne. St. Gall is placing Charlemagne at the same level as the Romans, saying God has raised up Charlemagne to succeed them. Then, at the end of the quote, it is unclear why St. Gall says that the bishop falls of his horse. To me, this seems some sort of a negative passage making the reader think Charlemagne is somewhat incompetent. This being the first entry in this author s text, it immediately gives off a negative feeling towards Charlemagne. The reader immediately has a negative bias towards Charlemagne ... Every society s set of rules and regulations evokes the inner insurgent of a minority; George Orwell s dystopia demonstrates the execution of pursuing ones rebellious tendencies and the unconscious destruction that follows. In George Orwell s 1984, Orwell juxtaposes rebellion and conformity by using various techniques. The portrayal of London, the Prole District and the Golden Country, the contrast between the Parson s family unit and Winston s relationship with Julia along with the depiction of mind versus body are all ways in which Orwell chooses to analogize rebellion and conformity. Within Orwell s dystopia, London, the Golden Country and the Prole District play large roles in the way Winston and Julia not only act, but also speak of themselves and the Inner Party. London is a concrete jungle where, ...there seemed to be no colour in anything except the posters that were plastered everywhere. (Orwell 2). Wine appreciator, Gary Vaynerchuk, bought the network because he wanted to build a community, one that was more specialized than any other social media like Facebook for other wine worshipers like him. With this, he could establish connections that join the wine consumers and the wine producers, such as vineyards, to help others better connect with their passions. On a greater level, however, Vaynerchuk also desired to connect those who love wine with the wineries that create it. The first of three issues the network was obligated to focus on was customer acquisition. The growth of users, both individuals and wineries, on the network is what supported the growth of the network and community. In fact, without the user base, there would be no growth of the network and no revenue generation. It was evident that neither Vaynerchuk nor Ronga knew how to draw individual users or wineries to the network and consistently reinforce growth in this area. In particular, there was a lack of understanding of the growth relationship of individual users and wineries such as balancing recruiting efforts and the ability to grow the two groups simultaneously. Also, the resources that were used in the case of recruiting were heavily dedicated to recruiting wineries and not even with individual users. Though, they had periods of strong user and winery growth that were defined by the marketing strategies that they used. However, it was not enough in drawing long term growth of the network. Thus, equivalent strategies surrounding individual users and wineries should have been present in the Cork d case. The ongoing method to recruit wineries and individual users alike did not involve appealing to their customers. Many of the wineries hoped for metrics to understand the benefit that the network might have for them. However, the network was unable to provide the data and therefore did not properly incentivize wineries ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Gay as a Literary Figure in The Picture of Dorian Gray This paper shall explore the gay as a literary figure based on Oscar Wilde s The Picture of Dorian Gray. The aim of the essay is threefold. Firstly, to show how the gay is related to two of the most potent archetypal images: those of Dionysos and Apollo. Secondly, to demonstrate that the Wildean gay is profoundly afraid of life, and that his interest in form and aesthetic proportion rests on a principle of evasion. Thirdly, to contend that the humor in this novel, and by extension also in Wilde s plays, is a symptom of the author s fascination with an archetypal gay. The Picture of Dorian Gray revolves around Dorian s dual nature. On the one hand, he is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Book IV, lines 17 ff.) It is extraordinary how many of these epithets, such Ovid s puer aeternus, also describe Dorian, and Dorian, but these parallels are unlikely to have been intended. That Dorian is invested with the attributes of Dionysos is, however, corroborated in the novel. The morning after he cold bloodedly turns his back on Sibyl Vane, he checks to see whether Basil s portrait has really altered. It has and he immediately understands what this signifies for him: Eternal youth, infinite passion, pleasures subtle and secret, wild joys and wilder sins he was to have all these things. The portrait was to bear the burden of his shame: that was all. (105) The young man who realizes this has known only the passions of an adolescent s dreams. In other words, he believes that, under normal circumstances, such pleasures would stain him, not only morally, but physically. And so he prays that he may enjoy every pleasure which life can offer him, and yet remain unmarked by his experience. Such passions as those he wants to enjoy are associated with Dionysos. This is confirmed toward the end of the novel, when Lord Henry, following their discussion of Basil s murder, says to Dorian: You have drunk deeply of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Development of escitalopram, achieved by collaboration of Lundbeck and Forest Laboratories, began in the summer of 1997 and took only 3.5 years. The first patients participated in studies for marketing authorization in summer of 1999, and the first clinical results were published in December 2000. A year later, in December 2001, Lundbeck received Swedish approval for the treatment of depression and panic disorder. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, escitalopram has been claimed to be a more potent antidepressant than a racemic mixture, citalopram, of the two enantiomers. Researchers from Lundbeck tried to explain this phenomenon by proposing that escitalopram enhances its own binding by interacting with another allosteric site on the transporter. However, additional research showed that (R) citalopram also enhances the binding of escitalopram, so allosteric interaction cannot explain the observed counteracting effect. Of the SSRIs currently on the market, escitalopram has the highest affinity for the serotonin transporter, and thus has a relatively mild side effect profile. Some of the more commonly reported side effects are diarrhea, drowsiness, headache, ejaculatory disorder, nausea, insomnia, and delayed ejaculation. • 45. Modern Social Norms In Shakespeare s Twelfth Night Although written over four centuries ago, Shakespeare s play Twelfth Night successfully portrays modern social norms. Still going on today, people feel the need to change who they are due to opinions of others around them. The social aspects of the Renaissance still parallel those of the present. The paranoia of people believing they need to be someone else has stayed constant throughout the past five centuries because of society s influence on people. Using cultural and social criticism, readers can see how in Shakespeare s Twelfth Night that people use deception to mask their identity when they are in love, they are in need and they are insecure. The main idea behind the intricate love combinations of Twelfth Night is that people change who they are to be with the ones they love. This love story isn t similar to the usual Shakespearean play. Compare to the usual tragedy he writes, Shakespeare changed the tone of this story to comedy. But the main difference of this play to others, is the ending. The Declaration Of Sentiments And Resolutions Feminism in the United States: The Declaration of Sentiments Kyron Brown History 2010 W9 Professor Pennig November 26, 2014 Introduction In the year 1848, Elizabeth Cady Stanton conveyed to the audience of the Seneca Falls Convention the Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions . The Declaration of Sentiments was written with the purpose of demanding civil freedom for women and of righting the wrongs of society. The Declaration included events where women s rights were being oppressed and violated and where laws were giving special treatment to men. It also included the resolutions they demanded on these particular cases. In addition, the Declaration was written due to the fact that women in all parts of the globe were being oppressed for many years. The women in many countries, just like in the United States of America, were given a limited set of rights in the society compared to their male counterparts. One great example of this was the women s suffrage in the United States, which was not inherently given to them until its national enactment in the year 1920. Analysis The document was specifically written for women and the events that revolved around their poor conditions in the past. It was also evident that one of its objectives was to promote and endorse feminism. This was due to the fact that women in America were being oppressed up until the mid 20th century. As Martha C. Over the years, a number of Acts of Parliament were subject to introduce by the UK Parliament in order to increase confidence in the banknotes that were in circulation through limiting on the rights of banks in issuing notes.
