Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior By Amy Chua Essay
People have different ways to raise children, and there is clearly a difference between the Western
and Chinese mothers. It s clearly that it s because of their cultures, that they have dissimilar ways
to raise children. One of the discussable topics of how to raise children is to see the differences
between the Chinese and Western way, which Amy Chua writes about in an article in The Wall
Street Journal. The article Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior is published in the newspaper The
Wall Street Journal on January 8th 2011. Amy Chua writes about the recent topics, in the Western,
about the Asian mothers and how they raise their children, and her way of achieving attention she
uses Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior as a headline to make a controversy among the
Westerners. Chua attends to provoke the reader, as we get in her headline because it s something
which humiliates the reader s way of parenting. Chua uses the appeal pathos by using provocation,

As she mentions that Chinese parents spends approximately 10 times as long every day drilling
with academic activities with their children, then the Western parents, can cause problematic of
clash of cultures. Chinese way of learning is to practice many times a day, and that usually takes
a lot of their children s time to be social with their friends, but they have priorities that comes first
which is perfection Tenacious practice, practice, practice is crucial for excellence; rote repetition
is underrated in America compared to the Western time for being social is their highest priority
Western kids are more likely to participate in sports teams This can create a difficult social gap
between the children and cultures. As if Chinese children have to study and practice all day, then
there will not be time to full fill their social departments, which is a consequence by bringing up a
child outside the

Congestive Heart Failure
Introduction
Everyone loses pumping ability in their heart as they age. The serious case of heart failure
develops when other health conditions cause the heart to work harder or become damaged due to
increased stress. Heart failure is usually a chronic disease. It gradually tends to become worse. By
the time someone is diagnosed with it, the heart has most likely begun to lose pumping capacity
for quits some time. Nearly five million Americans are living with heart failure and 550,000 new
cases are diagnosed each year. This paper will discuss what heart failure is, and what nursing
interventions may be of help to patients who suffer from this disease. My grandmother was recently
diagnosed with congestive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This excess fluid or congestion is where the term congestive heart failure comes from.
Right sided failure is often a result of left sided failure. When the left side fails, increased fluid
pressure develops in the lungs and damages the heart s right side. When pumping power is lost in
the right side, blood backs up in the veins causing swelling in the legs and ankles.
The heart tries to make up for loss of pumping capacity in three ways enlarging, developing more
muscle mass, and pumping faster. By enlarging, the heart contracts more strongly and pumps more
blood. When the contracting cells of the heart increase in size, an increase in muscle mass also
occurs. Pumping faster helps to increase the heart s output.
The body also does other things to help compensate for the loss in power in the heart. Blood
vessels narrow to keep the blood pressure up. The body diverts the majority of the blood to the
heart and the brain. Eventually the heart can t keep up and the person will suffer from fatigue,
breathing problems or various other symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, loss of appetite,
nausea, confusion, or increased heart rate. Factors such as smoking, being overweight, having a
diet high in fat and cholesterol, and not exercising can contribute to heart failure.
Background
After reviewing medical journals related to my topic, I discovered that many physicians and nurses
think that congestive heart failure is

Alternative Fuel, Global Climate Change and the Categorical Imperative
While environmental questions are frequently channeled through practical and economic prisms, it
is also appropriate to consider our econolgy as a function of morality. The ethical dilemmas which
contribute to our policies and our behaviors regarding the use of fossil fuels and our attention to
global climate change are frequently overshadowed by more immediate concerns of survival or
mere comfort.
However, German philosopher Immanuel Kant offers what has become an important if
decidedly rigid framework for facing such an ethical dilemma. According to Kant s
deontological constructs, delineated in his landmark 1785 work, Groundwork for the
Metaphysics of Morals, morality is to treated as a science. In treating this as a science subject to
the immutable laws of nature, morality becomes the purview of what Kant calls the categorical
imperative. For Kant, questions of morality and ethical decision making are to be settled by an
unchanging set of principles shared by all men. To this end, Kant argues that physics will have its
empirical part, but it will also have a rational one; and likewise ethics although here the empirical
part might be called specifically practical anthropology, while the rational part might properly be
called morals. (Kant, 20) From this view, Kant takes the perspective that ethical free will is a
danger to civil and social order. Absent the categorical imperative, man is left

The Cold War Saga
The United Nations
It was said that the purpose of the UN was to create a collective security system because of the
division after World War II. Hostility reigned after the war between two political powers, the United
States of America and the U.S.S.R., mainly the fight against communism, making the U.S.S.R. as
carrier of this dreaded political disease. Nuclear fears were rampant during these times and the fight
for the U.S. and its allies was to end communism, which was growing in some areas that included
more than the U.S.S.R. (China, Korea (North) and Vietnam (North).
The United Nations held a responsibility to the superpowers to mitigate war, maintaining peace.

Animal Rights Argumentative Analysis
What makes hunting and trapping for sport is that people that do hunt or trap are seeing these
animals as renewable resources. They can reproduce without the help of humans; however, that
does not give humans the right to use them as a natural resource. It is a failure to not treat them
with respect. One of the main concerns for defending hunting is that it is not different than what
wildlife does to each other. The rights view sees that animals not moral agents, and have different
morals than what humans have. Then only have to kill what they need to. The still cause harm, but
do no moral harm in the logic of the rights view.
Regan does take into account how humans treat endangered species. The rights view is not

Leaver culture considers nature in how it improves with the world around it. Ismael uses the
story of Cain and Able to explain the difference. For anyone that has grown up learning about
Christian beliefs, the story of Cain and Able is taught as a way that if you go against God then
you get punished. The way Ishmael explains it, is more about a difference of cultures. Able
represents the Leaver culture, while Cain is a part of the Taker culture. If humans look at the
story from the Taker perspective, they see how it is a perspective in the bible. The story makes
more sense if it looked from a Leavers perspective. However, Leaver culture is not fully gone; but
Taker culture has taken a majority of control.
Regan main claim is that humans are no capably of fully knowing when the animals suffer, but that
does not deny them the rights they need. Regan is searching for the answer in how to communicate
with animals. Ishmael knows that our lost connection with nature is due to human s own fault.
Humans separated ourselves so far that humans cannot reach that communication point with nature.
However, if humans were to be like Leaver culture, then humans would be able to work with nature.
At that point humans could gain the communication back to

The Creation Of Adam s Ceiling Essay
According to arthistory.about.com The Creation of Adam is a fresco painting by Michelangelo,
which is on the Sistine Chapel s ceiling. The Sistine Chapel forms part of the large Papal Chapel
built within the Vatican by Pope Sixtus IV. Pope Julius II asked Michelangelo to paint the Sistine
Chapel s ceiling in 1508. Michelangelopainted the ceiling from July 1508 to October 1512. The
creation of Adam was painted in 1511. In fact, The Creation of Adam took less than three weeks to
complete. In the Sistine Chapels this painting is located next to the Creation of Eve, which is the
panel at the center of the room, and the Congregation of the Waters, which is closer to the altar.
The ceiling measures about 141 feet by 43 feet. Michelangelo painted over 5,000 square feet of
frescoes. (arthistory.about.com)
According to www.britannica.com/art/fresco painting fresco painting is a method of painting water
based pigments on freshly applied plaster, usually on wall surfaces. The colors are made by
grinding dry powder pigments in pure water. Then, the paint dries and sets with the plaster to
become a permanent part of the wall. Fresco painting is ideal for making murals because it lends
itself to a monumental style, is durable, and has a matte surface. This contributed to why
Michelangelo chose to paint using this style. (www.britannica.com/art/fresco painting)

High fructose corn syrup is known to be a tasty and all around unhealthy sweetener that we human
consume. The inexpensive and readily obtainable sweetener has caused an epidemic obesity that
plagued the world shortly after it has been introduced worldwide at supermarkets. Considering that
HFCS is heavily processed in many foods as a substitute for table sugar, it is permeated into almost
every food we eat. Eating too much food containing HFCS may be good for our taste bud, but it
does not mean it is good for our body. The predominant sweetener leads to obesity because it has a

Fructose can only be metabolized by the liver because only the liver has a transporter for it.
Whereas glucose can be metabolized by every cell in the body. Also, fructose goes through a
metabolic change that keeps your body from burning fat. This means that all fructose gets stored
in your fat cells and are then turned into fat. Moreover, fructose causes people to gain more
calories because they do not feel as if they are full. As Jacqueline states, As an increase in insulin
and leptin are associated with satiety, some researchers theorized that perhaps ingesting fructose
instead of glucose leads people to consume more calories because they do not get the right signals
to feel full (Jacques, n.d.). Insulin is a hormone that regulates the amount of glucose in the blood.
Leptin is a hormone that will help regulate your appetite. A increase in insulin and leptin will
signal your body that you are full. Although, as you become resistant to the results of insulin and
leptin, you end up eating more. Nowadays many food are advertised to persuade the audience that

The authors of this article conducted this experiment in order to discover how different racial
audiences respond to ethnic stand up comedy, as well as to better understand how it can help the
long standing issues of racial inequality in America. To perform this experiment, the authors
decided to create several small focus groups. They chose to employ this method because it more
closely replicates the setting where stand up comedy is traditionally received, and it creates a
much more natural environment for the participants. They selected eleven 19 26 year old college
student (5 men and 6 women), all of whom were very racially aware. The authors then separated

Alex Turner Interpretation
Do I Wanna Know? by the Arctic Monkeys is a song about a man who wants a girl back. The
theme that Alex Turner, the song s writer, could be trying to get across is that love is very
difficult to let go of. In the song, Turner writes Been wondering if your heart s still open and if
so I wanna know what time it shuts. These lyrics express his questions about the way she feels for
him. Turner also continually questions in the song Do I wanna know? , which really highlights the
indecision he is facing. He is afraid she doesn t feel the same way towards him and he doesn t want
to hear that. The chorus also contains the powerful lyrics: Ever thoughtof calling when you ve had a

Freak the MIghty is a book by Rodman Philbrick. It is a book about friendship between two guys.
Freak the Mighty and The Mighty have many differences and alikes like when they became Freak
the MIghty, when they stopped a girl from getting robbed, and where Kevin dies. One difference
between the two is when they became Freak the Mighty. In the book this happens at the pond. The
cops asked who they were and Kevin said we are Freak the Mighty. In the movie it happened at the
museum.
Also in the movie Max and Kenvin save a girl from getting her purse stolen at a bakery. In the
movie it never even happened. It was important because it showed how strong Freak the Mighty
was, and how they work well together even though they are different. If

Mental Health Treatment Of Mental Illnesses
Approximately 20% of all children show at least minimal impairment from a mental health
illness (Odar, C. o., Canter, K., Roberts, M. m. 2013). Around 31% of girls and 42% of boys
between the ages of 9 and 16 years old meet the criteria of at least one mental health illness
(Costello, E. J., Mustillo, S., Erkanli, A., Keeler, G., Angold, A. 2003). Some of these illnesses
may include schizophrenia, bipolar disease, depression, etc. These illnesses may require
continuous care and treatment for many years and can be very costly. There are many problems
when it comes to the treatment of mental illnesses. Some of these problems are access, cost and
funding, and the delivery of care.
The first problem with mental health treatment is access. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The cost of outpatient treatment is expensive. Most psychiatrists offices and hospitals require
high copayments and deductibles if the treatment is covered under the patient s insurance plan.
But according to a report done by the Center for Disease Control, people with serious mental
illnesses are less likely to have health insurance, so they would be required to pay even more
money out of pocket if they decide to receive treatment (Cohn, J. 2015). The funding required for
treatment is also a big issue. In the early 20th century, insurance companies did not cover mental
health care at all. Eventually, they started adding mental health coverage, and by the 1980s,
managed care was introduced and was lowering costs (Cohn, J. 2015). But patients were concerned
that these lower prices were compromising the quality of care.
The quality and delivery of care is another mental health problem in the healthcare system. Due to
the Mental Health Parity Act of 2008, insurers are required to provide the same coverage for both
mental health treatment and medical/surgical treatment (Burns, J 2014). This could cause insurers
to limit the length of stay for all patients in hospitals or residential care and could cause more
readmissions to occur. It could also cause all patients to receive insufficient treatment.
Implications
Having little access to treatment or care can affect both patients and providers. It makes it harder
for patients to receive

Compare And Contrast The Great Gatsby And The King s Speech
I have had the privilege to study two compelling masterpieces this year. The enthralling novel The
Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald and the exceptional visual sensation that is The King s Speech .
The cultural context alludes what aspects are relevant to the society of that world and their daily
lives. I was very intrigued when comparing both of these texts.
While the texts presents very different worlds there are some striking similarities. Ultimately each
text creates its own unique universe which impacts the protagonist in a variety of ways.
Setting
The king s Speech is set in England during the time period of 1925 1939. This was a very tense

In The King s Speech The main protagonists are either members of the English Royal family or a
family man from the colonies in middle class. A moment of class snobbery was availed in the
film when Bertie and Elizabeth went to Balmoral castle to attend one of David and Wallace s
extravagant parties. This itself was a red flag to the Duke and Duchess since the royal family
doesn t throw such informal and decadent parties since they too respected and classy for events
like that. Elizabeth s short wit and tempered and vivid when Wallis greets them informally and
acted as if everything was hers. This was evident in the mise en scene showing her close up with
the expensive chandelier overhead. Elizabeth rudely brushed her off then stated I was invited on
behalf of the king . Afterwards her and Churchill discussed how a commoner like her couldn t

The Open Boat by Stephen Crane Essay
The Open Boat by Stephen Crane
The Open Boat Four men drift across a January sea in an open boat, since they lost their ship some
time after dawn. Now, in the clear light of day, the men begin to grasp the full gravity of their
situation. Realizing that their main conflict will be man versus nature, in this case, the raging sea.
In the short story The Open Boat, Stephen Crane gives an itemized description of the two days
spent on a ten foot dinghy by four men a cook, a correspondent, which is Crane himself, the injured
Captain and Billy Higgens, the oiler. The men in the open boat show us that compassion for one s
comrade, unfeeling endurance, and courage are the true moral standards in a neutral universe.

It is explained in the story that many men should have a bathtub bigger than the boat they were
riding in. This is amazing at the beginning of the story, when Crane mentions that they were the
only ones to survive how ungrateful these characters are to be alive in this big hateful world.
During the story the correspondent realizes how lucky he is to be alive and how this was the
best experience of his life. He learns how not to be cynical of men because we are all in the war
against nature together. While the men are afloat they learn a highly momentous lesson about
man versus nature. The natural world does not play favorites among men. The captain realizes
this when all of his crew goes down with the ship except him and three other men. The
correspondent found this to be true when the shark was hunting him while he rowed. The war
with nature raged on in the story showing no signs of letting go. With nature playing tricks on
them as they go. For example, The people on the beach, waving at them. Also, the man swinging
his coat continuously. Then when the thought it could not get worse the boat capsizes. When the
exhausted passengers eventually drifted to shore the oiler finds himself a victim of man versus
nature. Another conflict in this story was with man versus self. An example of this conflict is, If
I am going to be drowned if I am going to be drowned if I am going to be drowned, why, in the
name of the seven mad gods who rule the sea, was I

Zimbardo s Experiment, Studying The Way Prisoners And...
Likewise Zimbardo s (1971) experiment, studying the way prisoners and guards interacted,
demonstrated similar ethical failings, such as consent gained without individuals being made
fully aware of the involvements; physical, emotional and psychological harm subjected; violation
of rights, including privacy, respect, confidentiality and the ability to withdraw (). Fascinated by
the volume of ordinary individuals who executed terrible things to others during WWII,
Zimbardo predicted that all people, even the good, had the potential to conduct malevolence
when sited in the correct environment (Haney et al, 1973). In a mock prison participants were
recruited to play a role, half as prisoners and the rest as guards. Both were dressed accordingly,
with the guards wearing a uniform with mirrored sunglasses which promotes anonymity as their
emotions are obscured, but yet denotes their position of power and authority. According to
Zimbardo (2000) these conditions of deindividuation allow for the facilitation of evil.
Subsequently it becomes acceptable to enforce measures which degrade prisoners of their self
respect, including being stripped, deloused and ordered to carry a chain around their ankle, whilst
the mandatory wearing of a smock and a cap made from a stocking demoralized them as it
impacted upon their masculinity. Additionally, not only were prisoners assigned a number by

Crime And Punishment By Fyrodor Doveskey
The Theorized Extraordinary to the Ordinary Romantic
The human race remembers people in history who fought for something they believed in. For
example, both Neapolitan Bonaparte and George Washington killed other people in battle, because
they had something that they believed worthy to fight for regardless of the established and
universal law against killing. In Raskolnikov`s words from Crime and Punishment, they were
extraordinary men. These men, according to Raskolnikov, had the right to commit any crime,
because they were leading ordinary people into a new and improved society, without any moral
repercussions. In Fyrodor Doveskey`s, Crime and Punishment, his character Raskolnikov`s

Raskolnikov feels guilty for what he did is that, at the end of the novel, Raskolnikov confesses in

The Boy In The Striped Pajamas Short Story
Two stories that are quite alike are The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and Ten days in a Madhouse.
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is historical fiction about a young boy who is in a concentration

that asylum. Both stories were different but their conflict was quite the same, both main
characters in the story saw horrible things while they were in captivity. I believe the best way
conflict should be responded is in a positive way; I m going to compare the conflicts in both The
Boy in the Striped Pajamas and Ten days in a Madhouse.
The story Ten days in a Madhouse conflict is that Nellie Bly, the reporter, is that the people in the
asylum were treated horrible and she had to live with that since she was also considered a maniac

One Day In The Life Of Ivan Denisovich Essay
Solzhenitsyn s book, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, is a well written piece of literature
that describes in stunning detail the life that may await a Zek in the Gulag System. One Day in
the Life of Ivan Denisovich is not spread over an extended period of time, but about a single day
from reveille to when Ivan Denisovich s eyes close that night. This allows for a more critical and
unshrouded view of what Denisovich is thinking while performing menial tasks such as eating,
walking to the work site, and observing those around him. Denisovich tells the reader about the

Effectiveness Of Successful Resilience Programs For Nurses
Shortcomings in the Literature
Although CF and resilience are relatively new areas of research, there are several studies that cite
their importance and benefit to combatting illness, nursing and patient quality of life, and retention
rates. As mentioned previously, CF adversely affects both nursing retention rates, as well as patient
outcomes. Hart, Brannan, and Chesnay felt a majority of factors in patient dissatisfaction were the
same factors that increased stress in nurses; thus, patient and nurse quality of life are inseparably
tied together. Preliminary studies show that resilience strengthening classes for nurses significantly
alleviates CF rates. However, no studies to date try to link these classes for nurses with patient
outcomes. Patients who have more resilience have better outcomes, especially long term and with
regard to their families. Research should be done to examine whether successful resilience
programs for nurses also affect both patient outcomes and patient resilience levels. If these are
significantly benefited by resilience programs, then resilience programs for nurses will have a
greater reputation among healthcare organizations. If both nursing and patient outcomes are
benefited, the cost effectiveness and necessity of these programs will be realized, as well as
advancement in healthcare efficacy.

Compare And Contrast The Veldt And Marionettes Inc.
In the modern society, technology has repeatedly shown its unpredictability and unreliability.
Recently, many scary occurrences have aroused due to exceptional grade technology. The Veldt and
Marionettes Inc. by Ray Bradbury, both warn of the dangers of trusting any artificial intelligence.
These short stories support the theme that Ray Bradburybelieved in, that technology hurts
humankind.
The Veldt is about children who find refuge for their feelings in a nursery that creates a virtual
reality to soothe their feelings. However, something goes wrong in the nursery causing the
children to be able to kill the parents in reality, even though the nursery was supposed to be only a
virtual reality. This shows that technology can turn its back and cause major dilemmas when
abused. But, the nursery did not only physically cause problems for the parents, it also provided a
blanket of ignorance for them to shield themselves under. The parents were too afraid to discipline
their children, so they used the nursery they had bought to allow themselves ... Show more content

Therefore, the characters relied on fake human replicas of them, marionettes, to replace them for a

motivated one of the marionettes to lock up its real self, in order to fall in love with his wife.
Also, another marionette was used to distract one s husband without him finding out for over a
month. Once again, both replicas were used as distractions as to what they users did not want to

technology. These stories were authored to warn about when the limit as to how much technology

The Banquet Scene In The Iliad
The Iliad is the quintessential epic. It is full with gods, goddesses, heroes, war, honor, glory, and
the like. However, for just short while near the very conclusion Homer avoids all of those epic
qualities. The banquet scene in Book XXIV is the most touching, the most human scene in the
entire poem . In the midst of the dreadful gulf of war and anger there occurs an intimate moment
between two men who ironically have much in common below the surface.
Priam, old and fragile, makes his way to the camp of the enemy s greatest warrior late at night. He
bears what little treasures have not been exhausted by the ten year conflict and plans to plead for
the rightful return of his son s body. This is his final heroic endeavor. And... Show more content on

Recall in Book III his kindliness towards Helen. This perception of Achilles as a vision of Hektor is
also a reaction to Achilles his newly developed warmth and tenderness. And in fact, not overlooking
what Achilles has done, Priam cannot deny that he is a great strong warrior and has brought much
glory to the side of the Achaians.
By reaching out to Priam, Achilles, for a moment, brings these two bitterly warring nations into a
zone of peace.
. There is no pretty ending; Troy, we know, will soon be destroyed. The scene is
uncompromisingly tragic: Patroklos is dead, Hektor is dead, Priam will soon be killed, and
Achilles will soon be killed. Yet somehow, in the midst of suffering, moral beauty survives.
Though the human lot he portrays is grim, his actions show a human decency that somehow softens
our sense of what it means to be human
NOTE: Observe how the plot structure of the Iliad completes itself. In the first book, a father
(Chryses) comes to Agamemnon to plead for the return of his child but is refused. In the last
book, a father (Priam) also pleads to Achilles for the return of a child; this time pity is shown.
Though this symmetry is surely there, Homer is an artist who permits complexities and
contradictions. As you begin to sum up your feelings about the Iliad, test all the threads. The
question is not simply is Achilles right or wrong, or are the Trojans or Argives the real heroes.
Homer values both

Golfers
Executive Summary
GolfLogix was founded in May of 1999 by Todd Kuta and Scott Lambrecht. The GolfLogix
system used Global Positioning System (GPS) technology and came equipped with a handheld
receiver called the xCaddie. The xCaddie made it easier for golfers to measure the distance
between their current position and the green. This concept helped diffuse the frustrations of the
golfers themselves and of the other golfers who were waiting on the course. In 2002, GolfLogix
was faced with the decision of whether or not to keep focusing their target market on the individual
golf courses or to start marketing directly to consumers. After researching the company, its
competitors, and the industry, we were able to consider both options and ... Show more content on

The xCaddie was easy for the golfers to read and it enabled the golfers to view their distances in
both yards and meters. The product also included custom features that would tailor to the different
needs of the different golfers (Gourville 1).
After deciding they wanted to carry out the idea, the two men first had to find out if such a
device would be legal in the United State Golf Association (USGA). They found that the standard
rule for using a GPS was that it could be used for recreational golf but could not be used during
tournament play (Gourville 3). By May 2002, GolfLogix consisted of six full time employees
and had managed to raise $12 million. Although the company seemed to have a great start in the
industry, there were many measurement systems that were currently being used by golf courses
all around the world, including the yardage markers, sprinkler heads, yardage booklets, and
rangefinders (Gourville 4). The yardage markers are considered the most widely used tool for
golfers to measure the distance between the green and their current position. The yardage markers
are typically colored plastic or concrete plates that are embedded in the center of the fairway. The
sprinkler head system involves marking the distances on the sprinkler heads. There are typically ten

There are more than one billion cars around the world up to date and this number is increasing

now. Big engines are made of eight cylinder (V8), ten cylinder (V10), or twelve cylinder (V12

Panamera with the same engine options in 2011. Porsche mostly used their V8 engines in their four
door cars until 2014, but after that year they started to downsize their engines because of the new
emission rules that their government released. By those new reduced emission regulations, Porsche
become one of the first sports car manufacturers that started to downsize their engines. Downsizing
the engine is pretty simple. They are actually taking 4.8 liter, eight cylinder V8 engine and
changing it with the 3.6 liter, six cylinder V6 engine. When they are downsizing the engine, they
are also adding that engine a turbocharger to make it much powerful as the bigger engine.
(Turbocharger is helping the engine to get more air to the pistons to increase its performance) Most
of the Porsche customers thought bigger engines are stronger and it makes the car go faster, but
actually it is not true because when they add turbochargers to the new downsized engine, it makes
the car much powerful as the old models. Another thing about the downsizing the engine is the fact
that, when the manufacturer makes the engine smaller, they are actually making the car lighter too
and that lighter car goes faster on the road than the previous models because it has

The Human Body In Greek Art

defined as Greek sculpture today while Greek vase painting and other representations of the human

Flood Case Study
Other Factors Contributing to the Flood
The Arun and Sunkosi sub catchments of the upper catchment area contribute to the intensity of
floods, with the former possessing highest surface runoff potential (Wakode et al., 2013). As the
Kosi River exits at the base of the mountain, the ability to transport sediment is dampened, leading
to deposition of sediment and aggradation (Kale, 2008). High silt content in the river was due to
soil erosion and landslides and the presence of narrow gorges (Wakode et al., 2013). The
construction of the eastern embankment increased aggradation on the western side of the river,
making the embankment vulnerable to breaching (Sinha, 2009). Furthermore, Chakraborty et al

They are more deadly than ordinary floods because they intensify the moment the dams and
embankments experience failures and breaches respectively (Singh and Kumar (2013); Singh and
Kumar, 2017). The high discharge of water from rivers can cause extensive damage to life and
property (Singh Kumar, 2017), both of which include livestock, croplands and public utilities (i.e.
electricity, telephones, and roads) (Singh Kumar, 2013). For instance, a lot of agricultural land was
rendered uncultivable because the flood had transported and deposited excess sediment
(Chakraborty et al., 2010).
Singh and Kumar (2013) noted that millions of people in India are affected by flash floods
yearly. In this regard, it can be deduced that countless people were displaced, many villages were
flooded, and Bihar s infrastructure was compromised (Kale, 2008). While there have been no
reliable estimate of deaths and loss of properties for the flood event, it can be said that more than
30 million people were affected (Sinha, 2009). The 2008 flood was an unprecedented human
misery due to increased population density (Kale, 2008).

Examples Of Heroism In Beowulf
Heroism and Its Adaptation Over Time (Prompt #3)
Heroism is defined as great bravery, but there are many interpretations of what great bravery truly
signifies. Over time the image of heroism is altered to conform to cultural beliefs and morals.
Often times, heroes are written into poems, or stories to set an exceptionally high standard and
become a role model for people in their time period. In the famous epic, Beowulf, the ideal hero is
portrayed as a superior warrior who is able to overcome unthinkable means. This proposal of a
warrior as a hero did not last long in history, however. As times changed, people developed different
values and beliefs that transformed a hero from a warrior to a saint. In today s world, a hero is

As new religions develop and spread, people began to form a new idea of perfection. As the new
image of an ideal hero was formed, poems, books, and such were written to set example for how
people should act in their day and age. The reason that these heroes change over time more
specifically is due to their lifestyles. In ancient times, people required different traits to be
successful. Due to the warring lifestyle that was existent during the writing of texts such as
Beowulf, heroes were modeled to be great fighters. This is also consistent with other ancient
heroes such as Achilles in Greek Mythology; however, this changed over time as religions were
established and people became more civilized. Religion gave people a more positive outlook on
life and ended much of the barbarian lifestyle. The new idea of a hero developed into a righteous
god fearing person; so, saints became the newfound role models. Saints are still seen as heroes
today, but much more sparsely. This can be accredited to various events in history including the
Renaissance and Protestant Reformation. With the Renaissance came an increase in
individualistic thinking, and so on the entire root of modern day heroism. People of all types
began highly regarding artists and philosophers, longing to be of their caliber. With the
colonization of the Americas also came a new type of hero. Adventurers such as Christopher
Columbus were praised received glory for their accomplishment. Jumping forward to today,
heroes are labeled daily for their acts of bravery and quick thinking abilities that save lives.
Everyday individuals such as pilot Chesley Sullenberger, the pilot that crash landed into the
Hudson River, are remembered as heroes for saving lives, as stated many times that He was
hailed as a national hero (Chesley). Not only is the word hero used in relation to real events, but

wars and is often referred to by many as the Roaring Twenties as it was a time for great celebration
and advancement as modern mass production and consumption was introduced and many
Americans began to increase their material wealth. While this decade brought on the lux and
lavish of life, it also brought with it many different types of people as well as objects. While
reading The Great Gatsby, a novel by F.Scott Fitzgerald, these objects are referred to as symbols
and in reading the novel, are able to provide many shades of meaning to the reader depending on
how the reader views and interprets the symbols. The ash heaps and valley of ashes, the billboard
sign of Doctor T.J. Eckleburg, and the green dock light are some of the many symbols in the novel
that can provide different shades of meaning to the reader through the course of the novel.
Throughout the novel, the ash heaps and valley of ashes are one of the most referenced symbols
found within the Great Gatsby. These symbols in turn are also able to provide different shades of
meaning to the reader depending on how the reader interprets the ash heaps and valley of ashes.
One shade of meaning that can be offered to the readers is that the ash heaps represent success of
the factories during the time of the 1920s. During this period of time, modern mass production as
well as consumption began to grow as economic prosperity

Character Analysis Of King Kong
King Kong is exciting screenplay that does a great job at demonstrating what the characters are
feeling. When the writers wanted to illustrate fear, they do so by painting an image terror, and
makes it relatable. By making a scene relatable, it helps with the understanding of the character s
motives, and gives insight to the kind of person that character is. By having a complex villain such
as King Kong, one battles the urge to root for Kong, as well as wanting him to ceased. While
writers do an overall great job with the development of the characters, where they lacks is in love
story between Darrow and Driscoll. By not successfully developing the relationship between
Darrow and Driscoll in the beginning, love between the two feels rushed, which therefore makes it
challenging to care about their relationship. Overall King Kong is a well written screenplay, that
shows does a great job at showing what the characters are feeling throughout.
Where the writers of the screenplay succeed is in illustrating the emotion that the character is
feeling at that moment. If one does not do this successfully, it makes it hard to invest in the
characters, and understand the situation of the scene. An example of this is when Carl and the
ship crew approach Skull Island. As they are approaching the undiscovered island, the writers
describe this thick fog that the characters enter (47). By doing this, the writers demonstrates
imagery to describe the dark and eerie place. As the characters are unable to see through the fog,
they start to become afraid, as they fear of the unknown. An example of this being expressed is
when one of the ship crew members Hayes yells captain, you don t know where the hell you re
going (49)! Panic and terror possess the characters, and the writers do a great of showing it.
The writers do a great job with the development of King Kong and making him a complex
character. At first, King Kong appears to be the stereotypical monster/villain that only kills and
destroys, but later in the story, King Kong shows a different side of him that a character such as
himself usually does not display. A moment where the complexity of King Kong s character is
shown is when Ann and Kong have their first real

Analysis Of Peter Gray s Next Great Baker
From a small town in Massachusetts, to the Next Great Baker, to owning his own business, this
man has done a lot to get where he is today. Peter Gray has always loved baking but could never
imagine owning his own business as fast as he did. Gray is from East Longmeadow and studied
at the New England Culinary Institute. After he graduated he decided to compete against
twelve other contestants on TLC s Next Great Baker. Unfortunately he lost this competition but
was offered an opportunity of a lifetime. After being on the Next Great Baker he did radio
interviews every week trying to sell himself in order to get himself a job. One day four years
ago, a couple, who owned a gelato store, heard him on the radio and offered to let Gray take over
the shop in their off season, because who wants to eat gelato in the middle of winter, not many
people. This allowed him to get his feet wet before jumping right into a business. After a while
they gave him an offer to take over their gelato business but since he was just starting out and the
gelato with his desserts was expensive, he decided not to take the offer and opened his business in
that location, Pete s Sweets. Gray said that many people do not know what they want when they
come to him and they just say I want a cake. He compared this to saying I want a car, you could
want something, like a Honda that it simple and gets you from point A to point B or you could
want something expensive and flashy, like a Lamborghini.

Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder was first mentioned in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual
4th edition (DSM IV) as a depressive disorder not otherwise specified. It was actually a renaming
of a diagnosis that was originally in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual 3rd edition (DSM III).
That diagnosis was the Late Luteal Phase Dysphoric Disorder (LLPDD), which had been found to
be false because these symptoms did not always occur during the late luteal phase in the menstrual
cycle(Severino, 2009). The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual 5th edition (DSM 5) officially
recognized PMDD as a diagnosis, placing it under Depressive Disorders. It seems the symptoms of
PMDD very much so mirror those of Major Depressive Disorder (DMM) that appeared... Show

Dr Rieux Character Analysis
The character that I have chosen to study is Dr Rieux. He is the narrator of this story and is a
highly respected surgeon in the town of Oran. Rieux is of average height and has broad
shoulders. He has dark steady eyes, a big, well modeled nose, and thick, tight set lips. His black
hair is cut short and slick. He belongs to a small group of people dubbed as the true healers.
While he had the opportunity to leave Oran and join his wife, he refused. He remained in Oran to
fight the plague with all his abilities and strength. He claims that there is nothing heroic about his
actions and that he is simply doing his job. He fights because he has been trained to and because
of his philosophy; he believes of his life having value only when he is

Past, Present, and Future Paper
Before I began my program here at University of Phoenix my learning and personal growth was not
a major factor. In May 2002, I was faced with a life or death situation. I was attending a private
college in New Jersey. I went in for an annually check up and was informed that I was pregnant.
That day changed my life drastically. I was working two jobs and going to school part time, so I
always have been hard working and a dedicated individual. Learning that I was about to have a
child immediately made me become unfocused. In December 2002, I was about to give birth when

I did awful on my final, which was a grammar quiz. After taken this course, I realized Accounting
was the field for me! Before I started my program at University of Phoenix I had trouble with
proper grammar. I believe I have grown in this area because University of Phoenix offers
excellent resource materials and services, such as the library and the lab. I have learned that
professionally or personally I have to be proficient in writing. Businesses have to know that they
trust that I can put an important document together error free. Another course that impacted my
life was MTH208/209. Both of these math courses were not hard however, MTH208 was a
refresher algebra course. My high school focused on accounting so I was proficient in this area. I
absolutely love math! Both of these courses focus on college algebra. By taking MTH 208/209 I
realized how much I have forgotten since high school. This course impacted my decision to
progress and earn my master s in business in accounting. Math is relates to anything an individual
does such as scheduling appointments, jotting down milling information, and keeping track of
hours worked on a time sheet. My personal, professional, and educational goals will vary for the
next five years. After obtaining my bachelors of science in management, I am going to take some
time to self reflect. I will reflect on what I have learned over the past four years at University of
Phoenix. After I have

Essay about Locus of Control and Social Behaviour
Imagine, you just recently came down with a cold and you are feeling really sick. How did you end
up getting sick in the first place, was it just due to random chance, or was it because you were
stressed and not watching your health? According to Julian Rotter s social learning theory, the two
different mentalities people have about how much influence they themselves have on their life
events can be categorized into two different groups. Those with internal control believe that they
have control over their own behaviour and the subsequent outcomes. Conversely, those with
external control more often tend to believe that outcomes are beyond their control. The locus
control concept of internal versus external control can be used to understand... Show more content

Freedom of movement in this case is taken to mean ...a person s generalized expectancy that
any...related set of behaviours will lead to need satisfaction (Crowne, 2009). Evidence suggests
that the relationship between expectancy (freedom of movement) and reinforcement or need
values to be multiplicative, but an ampersand is used instead because data on the relationship is
still considered inconclusive (Crowne, 2009). Note that in both cases, expectation plays a huge
role in determining whether behaviour occurs. Regardless of how big a need or reinforcement, if
expectation of satisfaction in a given situation is zero or low, behaviour is unlikely to happen. The
concept of external and internal control can be thought of as having low or high expectations for
situations that involves personal commitment or action. The primary concerns of this concept
involve activities that require one to make judgments about one s own skill or aptitude in a task.
If one does not believe that they are skilled, and that any choices they make will make any
difference, than activities that are mostly skill based are highly unlikely to occur. Instead, people
with external control will be inclined to participate in activities that are more heavily luck based,
because the expectancy for reinforcement (rewards) or a need fulfillment tend to be higher than
ability based activities. Consider the

Racial And White-Dominated Society In Ralph Ellison s The...
The Invisible Man was an interesting book to read. It showed the event of African American
racism in 1930 through the eyes of the narrator. Ralph Ellison shows his journey through the
white dominated society. Ellison intended outcome is to us about the African American society;
tell us about the racial, white dominated society; tell us about his experiences in 1930. Ellison
intends to write about the African America society in 1930. He tells us the African Americans
are constantly discriminated. They are blind to the fact that they are being mistreated and avoid
knowing the truth. They try to find their identity in a White dominated society. The Narrator
thinks that he is alive to support and gain recognition of white people. He spends many years
trying to blend into society. Another example is Mr. Bledsoe. He is an African American person
who puts blending into white society above his own people. He declares that he would bring
down every African American before he loses his job. Ellison shows how African Americans try
to join white society and those that have been excepted keep it as an accomplishment and would
never give it away. The second intended outcome was to tell us about racial, white dominated
society. He tells us that they discriminated African Americans and believed that every one of them
was not a human. They also believed that every African American was a tool. The Narrator tells us
that he was thrown into a battle royal for the white people to enjoy. Then after the battle, he was
shown money, but it was a fake and a trick to entertain the white people. A second example is the
statue of the founder. The Narrator sees that the statue shows a symbolism that white people still
did not believe that African Americans were not entirely free. Another example is when the narrator
is in the hospital. While he is at the hospital the doctor tests electrical shock therapy on the narrator
and even tries to castrate him. The white people believe that African Americans are not entirely free
and that they can be used for their own entertainment or for their testing. The third intended
outcome is to tell us about his experience through this time period. He shows us that he experiences

Summary Of Don t Let Me Be Lonely By Claudia Rankine
Inequality
In the book Don t let me be lonely by Claudia Rankine, Politics, racism, and loneliness happened
to appear with several situations she mentions in her book. These topics don t just affect one
person but many because with politics a whole country can be affected by the decisions that
happen and actions. Racism also takes part of this reading with the attack of Louima by police
while being incarcerated, the attack affected him emotionally and mentally because of the abuse
he put up with. The attack not only affected Louima but the people that heard about his attack got
angry at the discrimination he faced during the time he was in jail. Loneliness can be in either
passages because when Louima was asked how it felt to be rich Louima answered that he was
only grateful to be alive he felt lonely in this situation because others were worried about how he
would spend the money instead of his health and with Princess Diana the people were weeping
because they loved her and losing her impacted the people, in my opinion they were lost and
confused about who would be there for them.
When reading Don t let me be lonely by Claudia Rankine. The passage I came across on was
(Rankine 39) the way people mourned for Princess Diana and how they addressed their grief
towards her death was the way that I ve have mostly commonly seen which would show people
weeping and being there for one another. The citizens would leave flowers and candles on the
palace to show respect and

Studies in Brazil Resulted in Janice Perlman s Book, The...
For once complete year (1968 1969), Janice Perlman lived in the favelas (informal housing
settlements of Rio de Janeiro in the beautiful country of Brazil. Her studies conducted research
which resulted in the book The Myth of Marginality: Urban Poverty and Politics in Rio de
Janeiro, published in 1976. The book extensively disagreed with the negative perspectives of the
urban poor that were prevalent at the time. Her first book criticized the attitude accepted by the
people against the urban poor for their alleged disability to integrate themselves into the city s job
market. Moreover, a key argument was to identify the irony and absurdity behind blaming the
victims for their own poverty. In 1999, thirty years later, Perlman decided to revisit Rio de Janeiro
and began a new study with the previously used locations: the favela of Catacumba, which was
destroyed in 1970, forcing its residents to relocated to multiple low income apartment complexes
known as conjuntos; Nova Brasilia, which became part of the infamous Complexo do Alemao (a
complex of many favelas); and lastly the municipality of Duque de Caxias which is located in
region known as the Lowlands of the State of Rio (Baixada Fluminense). This newly acquired
research served in the production of Favela: Four Decades of Living on the Edge in Rio de Janeiro.
This book tells the stories of people that Perlman interviewed along with their children and
grandchildren. She blends detailed personal testimonies with insightful

Lines Written a Few Miles above Tintern Abbey by William...
William Wordsworth was a very wise man. He was born into a lot of wealth. In his time, the
wealthy people could afford not to work. Some of them would just travel. They would walk
from town to town, paying for whatever they needed to survive. Wordsworth was one of those
people. He would take trips that lasted years. After one of these very long journeys, he came
back home, and sat on a hillside a few miles above Tintern Abbey, an old, ruined cathedral. It truly
was a long journey. Five years have past, he says. Five years is a long timeto be away from home.
As he sat there, above the cathedral, he thought a lot about what it was like to come back home. In
his poem, Lines Written a few Miles Above Tintern Abbey, William Wordsworth
says a lot about the
progression of individual life, and the steady, circular repetitiveness of life as a whole. First,
Wordsworth writes about the past. Much of the poem is a reflection of his earlier days. He feels
quite nostalgic toward his childhood. He misses the simplicity and the naivety of when he was a
young boy. Although he thinks that he enjoyed his past, he can t quite remember that far back.
Wordsworth says, with gleams of half extinguished thought. With many recognitions dim and
faint... The past was definitely an important part of who he is, but he can t remember exactly what
happened way back then. Next, Wordsworth talks about his presentfeelings. To sum it all up in one
sentence, he is happy. He

What could she have done to prevent the situation and what more could she do to ensure that
this type of situation does not occur in the future? When Maalick originally went to Marta Ford
he spoke to her about the questions regarding his religion his co coworkers had been asking.
Rather than disregard his concerns she should have been proactive in addressing the issue rather
than waiting until it got worse. She could have held a meeting with everyone in the facility and
reminded them of the company policy regarding harassment. According to Gomez Mejia, L.,
Balkin, D., Cardy, R. (2012) companies that are proactive toward issues are better prepared to
deal with future problems. Had she done this the issue likely would not have escalated to the point
that it became a hostile work environment for Maalick. To prevent the situation from happening in
the future Marta Ford could provide additional training to all employees and require annual
retraining so that all employees and management are aware of company policies. 3. How would
you characterize Clive Jenkins behavior and response to this situation? As a member of
management Clive Jenkins is responsible for boosting employee morale to ensure that company

Black Friday Research Papers
Black Friday Shopping Great discounts, lower prices, and many sales are things you think of
when you hear the words Black Friday . A lot of Americans find that these sales are worth it , but
who wouldn t want discounts on new items? In my opinion, Black Friday is not even worth the
time and effort. Most of the time when you enter the store you are risking getting into an
altercation with very greedy people that only think about themselves since most items are a lot
cheaper. You also have to stand in long lines just to check out which takes a lot of time. I also feel
that you shouldn t cut down on family time to go shopping. Like myself most people are trying to
do Christmasshopping for family members , but end up buying things for themselves. For the

If no one went shopping on Black Friday it wouldn t mean people would miss out on holiday time
deals. Cyber Monday, which is usually the Monday following Thanksgiving, has become my
preferred way to shop and is a safer, less stressful, and less time consuming way. You won t have
camp outside of Walmart or any other store for hours, no altercations with people for the last TV.
You can shop online from at home, although some of the deals from Black Friday might be
gone, many sites offer better or different sales on Cyber Monday. During Black Friday most
things are cheaper and sometimes lower than usual. Some stores also give you incentives like
gift cards if you purchase something or spend a certain amount. That all sounds like something
most people are interested in right? But sometimes people are mistaken. The cons of Black
Friday are the large crowds, tons of people, and long lines , but if you are ok with this then Black
Friday is for you. Personally I m not a huge fan of Black Friday not matter how much you save. I
would rather be at home with my

Essay On Casablanca Movie
Casablanca Film Critique In the film, Casablanca, director Michael Curtiz uses screenplay,
cinematography, music and sound, and acting performances to highlight the pitfalls of
neutrality in both love and war. Humphrey Bogart (portraying Rick Blaine) and Ingrid Bergman
(portraying Ilsa) had an onscreen chemistry that just clicked. Through performance, I was able to
identify with Bogart because in life everyone will be given different ultimatums given on the
different life choices. People just have to learn which choice is the right one. Every time the
camera was on Bogart, he almost always looked ill/ or was sweating when he was faced with
making a difficult choice. Aside from Bogart sweating a lot, the audience would see Ilsa crying in
at least every other scene. Both Bogart and Ilsa got the audience to feel sadness and fear while the

The climatic scenes in the movie surround those moments when the characters are presented
with a choice. The ultimate final scene when Rick has to choose whether to be with Ilsa or
sacrifice his happiness for the greater good. Rick was telling Ilsa that you may not regret it now
but soon you will if you don t leave. The dialogue conveys this point as well when he tells her
that she needs to leave. Had the movie ended with Rick getting on the plane or with him
withholding the passes with Ilsa, it would ve been a letdown. The screenplay s use of flashbacks
heightens the plot by demonstrating how much Rick really loves Ilsa even though he pretends
to put up with her. Rick is conveying to Ilsa what he has learned in the final scene that you ve
got to sometimes make a choice when it is hard. The script in the dialogue was very genuine
because Rick is a cynic and his dialogue makes him seem like he knows it all and that he doesn t

  • 3. Chf Essay Congestive Heart Failure Introduction Everyone loses pumping ability in their heart as they age. The serious case of heart failure develops when other health conditions cause the heart to work harder or become damaged due to increased stress. Heart failure is usually a chronic disease. It gradually tends to become worse. By the time someone is diagnosed with it, the heart has most likely begun to lose pumping capacity for quits some time. Nearly five million Americans are living with heart failure and 550,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This excess fluid or congestion is where the term congestive heart failure comes from. Right sided failure is often a result of left sided failure. When the left side fails, increased fluid pressure develops in the lungs and damages the heart s right side. When pumping power is lost in the right side, blood backs up in the veins causing swelling in the legs and ankles. The heart tries to make up for loss of pumping capacity in three ways enlarging, developing more muscle mass, and pumping faster. By enlarging, the heart contracts more strongly and pumps more blood. When the contracting cells of the heart increase in size, an increase in muscle mass also occurs. Pumping faster helps to increase the heart s output. The body also does other things to help compensate for the loss in power in the heart. Blood vessels narrow to keep the blood pressure up. The body diverts the majority of the blood to the heart and the brain. Eventually the heart can t keep up and the person will suffer from fatigue, breathing problems or various other symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, loss of appetite, nausea, confusion, or increased heart rate. Factors such as smoking, being overweight, having a diet high in fat and cholesterol, and not exercising can contribute to heart failure. • 4. Alternative Fuel, Global Climate Change, and the... Alternative Fuel, Global Climate Change and the Categorical Imperative While environmental questions are frequently channeled through practical and economic prisms, it is also appropriate to consider our econolgy as a function of morality. The ethical dilemmas which contribute to our policies and our behaviors regarding the use of fossil fuels and our attention to global climate change are frequently overshadowed by more immediate concerns of survival or mere comfort. However, German philosopher Immanuel Kant offers what has become an important if decidedly rigid framework for facing such an ethical dilemma. According to Kant s deontological constructs, delineated in his landmark 1785 work, Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals, morality is to treated as a science. In treating this as a science subject to the immutable laws of nature, morality becomes the purview of what Kant calls the categorical imperative. For Kant, questions of morality and ethical decision making are to be settled by an unchanging set of principles shared by all men. To this end, Kant argues that physics will have its empirical part, but it will also have a rational one; and likewise ethics although here the empirical part might be called specifically practical anthropology, while the rational part might properly be called morals. (Kant, 20) From this view, Kant takes the perspective that ethical free will is a danger to civil and social order. Absent the categorical imperative, man is left ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Animal Rights Argumentative Analysis What makes hunting and trapping for sport is that people that do hunt or trap are seeing these animals as renewable resources. They can reproduce without the help of humans; however, that does not give humans the right to use them as a natural resource. It is a failure to not treat them with respect. One of the main concerns for defending hunting is that it is not different than what wildlife does to each other. The rights view sees that animals not moral agents, and have different morals than what humans have. Then only have to kill what they need to. The still cause harm, but do no moral harm in the logic of the rights view. Regan does take into account how humans treat endangered species. The rights view is not contrasting to the efforts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Leaver culture considers nature in how it improves with the world around it. Ismael uses the story of Cain and Able to explain the difference. For anyone that has grown up learning about Christian beliefs, the story of Cain and Able is taught as a way that if you go against God then you get punished. The way Ishmael explains it, is more about a difference of cultures. Able represents the Leaver culture, while Cain is a part of the Taker culture. If humans look at the story from the Taker perspective, they see how it is a perspective in the bible. The story makes more sense if it looked from a Leavers perspective. However, Leaver culture is not fully gone; but Taker culture has taken a majority of control. Regan main claim is that humans are no capably of fully knowing when the animals suffer, but that does not deny them the rights they need. Regan is searching for the answer in how to communicate with animals. Ishmael knows that our lost connection with nature is due to human s own fault. Humans separated ourselves so far that humans cannot reach that communication point with nature. However, if humans were to be like Leaver culture, then humans would be able to work with nature. At that point humans could gain the communication back to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Sistine Chapel forms part of the large Papal Chapel built within the Vatican by Pope Sixtus IV. Pope Julius II asked Michelangelo to paint the Sistine Chapel s ceiling in 1508. Michelangelopainted the ceiling from July 1508 to October 1512. The creation of Adam was painted in 1511. In fact, The Creation of Adam took less than three weeks to complete. The ceiling measures about 141 feet by 43 feet. Michelangelo painted over 5,000 square feet of frescoes. The colors are made by grinding dry powder pigments in pure water. Then, the paint dries and sets with the plaster to become a permanent part of the wall. Fresco painting is ideal for making murals because it lends itself to a monumental style, is durable, and has a matte surface. This contributed to why Michelangelo chose to paint using this style. The inexpensive and readily obtainable sweetener has caused an epidemic obesity that plagued the world shortly after it has been introduced worldwide at supermarkets. Considering that HFCS is heavily processed in many foods as a substitute for table sugar, it is permeated into almost every food we eat. Eating too much food containing HFCS may be good for our taste bud, but it does not mean it is good for our body. Whereas glucose can be metabolized by every cell in the body. Also, fructose goes through a metabolic change that keeps your body from burning fat. This means that all fructose gets stored in your fat cells and are then turned into fat. Moreover, fructose causes people to gain more calories because they do not feel as if they are full. As Jacqueline states, As an increase in insulin and leptin are associated with satiety, some researchers theorized that perhaps ingesting fructose instead of glucose leads people to consume more calories because they do not get the right signals to feel full (Jacques, n.d.). Insulin is a hormone that regulates the amount of glucose in the blood. Leptin is a hormone that will help regulate your appetite. The theme that Alex Turner, the song s writer, could be trying to get across is that love is very difficult to let go of. • 13. Mental Health Treatment Of Mental Illnesses Approximately 20% of all children show at least minimal impairment from a mental health illness (Odar, C. o., Canter, K., Roberts, M. m. 2013). Around 31% of girls and 42% of boys between the ages of 9 and 16 years old meet the criteria of at least one mental health illness (Costello, E. J., Mustillo, S., Erkanli, A., Keeler, G., Angold, A. 2003). Some of these illnesses may include schizophrenia, bipolar disease, depression, etc. These illnesses may require continuous care and treatment for many years and can be very costly. There are many problems when it comes to the treatment of mental illnesses. Some of these problems are access, cost and funding, and the delivery of care. The first problem with mental health treatment is access. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The cost of outpatient treatment is expensive. Most psychiatrists offices and hospitals require high copayments and deductibles if the treatment is covered under the patient s insurance plan. But according to a report done by the Center for Disease Control, people with serious mental illnesses are less likely to have health insurance, so they would be required to pay even more money out of pocket if they decide to receive treatment (Cohn, J. 2015). The funding required for treatment is also a big issue. In the early 20th century, insurance companies did not cover mental health care at all. Eventually, they started adding mental health coverage, and by the 1980s, managed care was introduced and was lowering costs (Cohn, J. 2015). But patients were concerned that these lower prices were compromising the quality of care. The quality and delivery of care is another mental health problem in the healthcare system. Due to the Mental Health Parity Act of 2008, insurers are required to provide the same coverage for both mental health treatment and medical/surgical treatment (Burns, J 2014). This could cause insurers to limit the length of stay for all patients in hospitals or residential care and could cause more readmissions to occur. The cultural context alludes what aspects are relevant to the society of that world and their daily lives. I was very intrigued when comparing both of these texts. While the texts presents very different worlds there are some striking similarities. Ultimately each text creates its own unique universe which impacts the protagonist in a variety of ways. A moment of class snobbery was availed in the film when Bertie and Elizabeth went to Balmoral castle to attend one of David and Wallace s extravagant parties. This itself was a red flag to the Duke and Duchess since the royal family doesn t throw such informal and decadent parties since they too respected and classy for events like that. Elizabeth s short wit and tempered and vivid when Wallis greets them informally and acted as if everything was hers. This was evident in the mise en scene showing her close up with the expensive chandelier overhead. Elizabeth rudely brushed her off then stated I was invited on behalf of the king . Afterwards her and Churchill discussed how a commoner like her couldn t marry David. This proves the class snobbery that is present in The King s Speech In The Great Gatsby we also see this exact same class consciousness at myrtle and Tom s apartment. Now, in the clear light of day, the men begin to grasp the full gravity of their situation. Realizing that their main conflict will be man versus nature, in this case, the raging sea. In the short story The Open Boat, Stephen Crane gives an itemized description of the two days spent on a ten foot dinghy by four men a cook, a correspondent, which is Crane himself, the injured Captain and Billy Higgens, the oiler. The men in the open boat show us that compassion for one s comrade, unfeeling endurance, and courage are the true moral standards in a neutral universe. Characterization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is explained in the story that many men should have a bathtub bigger than the boat they were riding in. This is amazing at the beginning of the story, when Crane mentions that they were the only ones to survive how ungrateful these characters are to be alive in this big hateful world. During the story the correspondent realizes how lucky he is to be alive and how this was the best experience of his life. He learns how not to be cynical of men because we are all in the war against nature together. While the men are afloat they learn a highly momentous lesson about man versus nature. The natural world does not play favorites among men. The captain realizes this when all of his crew goes down with the ship except him and three other men. The correspondent found this to be true when the shark was hunting him while he rowed. The war with nature raged on in the story showing no signs of letting go. With nature playing tricks on them as they go. For example, The people on the beach, waving at them. Also, the man swinging his coat continuously. Then when the thought it could not get worse the boat capsizes. When the exhausted passengers eventually drifted to shore the oiler finds himself a victim of man versus nature. Another conflict in this story was with man versus self. An example of this conflict is, If I am going to be drowned if I am going to be drowned if I am going to be drowned, why, in the name of the seven mad gods who rule the sea, was I ... Fascinated by the volume of ordinary individuals who executed terrible things to others during WWII, Zimbardo predicted that all people, even the good, had the potential to conduct malevolence when sited in the correct environment (Haney et al, 1973). In a mock prison participants were recruited to play a role, half as prisoners and the rest as guards. Both were dressed accordingly, with the guards wearing a uniform with mirrored sunglasses which promotes anonymity as their emotions are obscured, but yet denotes their position of power and authority. According to Zimbardo (2000) these conditions of deindividuation allow for the facilitation of evil. Subsequently it becomes acceptable to enforce measures which degrade prisoners of their self respect, including being stripped, deloused and ordered to carry a chain around their ankle, whilst the mandatory wearing of a smock and a cap made from a stocking demoralized them as it impacted upon their masculinity. One Day In The Life Of Ivan Denisovich Essay Solzhenitsyn s book, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, is a well written piece of literature that describes in stunning detail the life that may await a Zek in the Gulag System. One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich is not spread over an extended period of time, but about a single day from reveille to when Ivan Denisovich s eyes close that night. This allows for a more critical and unshrouded view of what Denisovich is thinking while performing menial tasks such as eating, walking to the work site, and observing those around him. Denisovich tells the reader about the people around him and his thoughts on their character. For example, Senka was a quiet, luckless fellow. One of his ear drums had been mashed in 41. Through this constant observation, Solzhenitsyn gives the readers further insight into the everyday lives of these those who were in the GulagSystem. Denisovich also tells the reader about his wife and home, which is seen in glimpses through their rare letters. The work Denisovich does is described in a constant flow, just as it was performed at that time. • 24. Effectiveness Of Successful Resilience Programs For Nurses Shortcomings in the Literature Although CF and resilience are relatively new areas of research, there are several studies that cite their importance and benefit to combatting illness, nursing and patient quality of life, and retention rates. As mentioned previously, CF adversely affects both nursing retention rates, as well as patient outcomes. Hart, Brannan, and Chesnay felt a majority of factors in patient dissatisfaction were the same factors that increased stress in nurses; thus, patient and nurse quality of life are inseparably tied together. Preliminary studies show that resilience strengthening classes for nurses significantly alleviates CF rates. However, no studies to date try to link these classes for nurses with patient outcomes. Patients who have more resilience have better outcomes, especially long term and with regard to their families. Research should be done to examine whether successful resilience programs for nurses also affect both patient outcomes and patient resilience levels. If these are significantly benefited by resilience programs, then resilience programs for nurses will have a greater reputation among healthcare organizations. If both nursing and patient outcomes are benefited, the cost effectiveness and necessity of these programs will be realized, as well as advancement in healthcare efficacy. However, There Is One Issue Regarding To The Downsized However, there is one issue regarding to the downsized engines.Porsche s Engine Downsizing There are more than one billion cars around the world up to date and this number is increasing rapidly because of the demand for them. Most of the cars in the world have big engines right now. Big engines are made of eight cylinder (V8), ten cylinder (V10), or twelve cylinder (V12 / W12). Those types of engines have been used for many years in the car industry. Most of the car manufacturers prefer to use those engines because their customers like them and thinking that more cylinder means more power. After introducing the Cayenne, they also started to produce four door coupe alike sedan called Panamera with the same engine options in 2011. Porsche mostly used their V8 engines in their four door cars until 2014, but after that year they started to downsize their engines because of the new emission rules that their government released. By those new reduced emission regulations, Porsche become one of the first sports car manufacturers that started to downsize their engines. Downsizing the engine is pretty simple. They are actually taking 4.8 liter, eight cylinder V8 engine and changing it with the 3.6 liter, six cylinder V6 engine. When they are downsizing the engine, they are also adding that engine a turbocharger to make it much powerful as the bigger engine. (Turbocharger is helping the engine to get more air to the pistons to increase its performance) Most of the Porsche customers thought bigger engines are stronger and it makes the car go faster, but actually it is not true because when they add turbochargers to the new downsized engine, it makes the car much powerful as the old models. Another thing about the downsizing the engine is the fact that, when the manufacturer makes the engine smaller, they are actually making the car lighter too and that lighter car goes faster on the road than the previous models because it has ... Made of bronze yet so full of life, the Spear Bearer is one of many ancient Greek sculptures surviving, as good as new, till this day. On the other side of the world stands the New York Kouros at the Metropolitan Museum, rigid and awkward, and all together unrealistic. Flood Case Study Other Factors Contributing to the Flood The Arun and Sunkosi sub catchments of the upper catchment area contribute to the intensity of floods, with the former possessing highest surface runoff potential (Wakode et al., 2013). As the Kosi River exits at the base of the mountain, the ability to transport sediment is dampened, leading to deposition of sediment and aggradation (Kale, 2008). High silt content in the river was due to soil erosion and landslides and the presence of narrow gorges (Wakode et al., 2013). For instance, a lot of agricultural land was rendered uncultivable because the flood had transported and deposited excess sediment (Chakraborty et al., 2010). Singh and Kumar (2013) noted that millions of people in India are affected by flash floods yearly. In this regard, it can be deduced that countless people were displaced, many villages were flooded, and Bihar s infrastructure was compromised (Kale, 2008). While there have been no reliable estimate of deaths and loss of properties for the flood event, it can be said that more than 30 million people were affected (Sinha, 2009). • 39. Examples Of Heroism In Beowulf Heroism and Its Adaptation Over Time (Prompt #3) Heroism is defined as great bravery, but there are many interpretations of what great bravery truly signifies. Over time the image of heroism is altered to conform to cultural beliefs and morals. Often times, heroes are written into poems, or stories to set an exceptionally high standard and become a role model for people in their time period. In the famous epic, Beowulf, the ideal hero is portrayed as a superior warrior who is able to overcome unthinkable means. This proposal of a warrior as a hero did not last long in history, however. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As new religions develop and spread, people began to form a new idea of perfection. As the new image of an ideal hero was formed, poems, books, and such were written to set example for how people should act in their day and age. The reason that these heroes change over time more specifically is due to their lifestyles. In ancient times, people required different traits to be successful. Due to the warring lifestyle that was existent during the writing of texts such as Beowulf, heroes were modeled to be great fighters. This is also consistent with other ancient heroes such as Achilles in Greek Mythology; however, this changed over time as religions were established and people became more civilized. Religion gave people a more positive outlook on life and ended much of the barbarian lifestyle. The new idea of a hero developed into a righteous god fearing person; so, saints became the newfound role models. Saints are still seen as heroes today, but much more sparsely. This can be accredited to various events in history including the Renaissance and Protestant Reformation. With the Renaissance came an increase in individualistic thinking, and so on the entire root of modern day heroism. People of all types began highly regarding artists and philosophers, longing to be of their caliber. With the colonization of the Americas also came a new type of hero. Adventurers such as Christopher Columbus were praised received glory for their accomplishment. Jumping forward to today, heroes are labeled daily for their acts of bravery and quick thinking abilities that save lives. Everyday individuals such as pilot Chesley Sullenberger, the pilot that crash landed into the Hudson River, are remembered as heroes for saving lives, as stated many times that He was hailed as a national hero (Chesley). • 43. Character Analysis Of King Kong King Kong is exciting screenplay that does a great job at demonstrating what the characters are feeling. When the writers wanted to illustrate fear, they do so by painting an image terror, and makes it relatable. By making a scene relatable, it helps with the understanding of the character s motives, and gives insight to the kind of person that character is. By having a complex villain such as King Kong, one battles the urge to root for Kong, as well as wanting him to ceased. While writers do an overall great job with the development of the characters, where they lacks is in love story between Darrow and Driscoll. By not successfully developing the relationship between Darrow and Driscoll in the beginning, love between the two feels rushed, which therefore makes it challenging to care about their relationship. Overall King Kong is a well written screenplay, that shows does a great job at showing what the characters are feeling throughout. Where the writers of the screenplay succeed is in illustrating the emotion that the character is feeling at that moment. If one does not do this successfully, it makes it hard to invest in the characters, and understand the situation of the scene. An example of this is when Carl and the ship crew approach Skull Island. As they are approaching the undiscovered island, the writers describe this thick fog that the characters enter (47). By doing this, the writers demonstrates imagery to describe the dark and eerie place. As the characters are unable to see through the fog, they start to become afraid, as they fear of the unknown. An example of this being expressed is when one of the ship crew members Hayes yells captain, you don t know where the hell you re going (49)! Panic and terror possess the characters, and the writers do a great of showing it. The writers do a great job with the development of King Kong and making him a complex character. At first, King Kong appears to be the stereotypical monster/villain that only kills and destroys, but later in the story, King Kong shows a different side of him that a character such as himself usually does not display. How did you end up getting sick in the first place, was it just due to random chance, or was it because you were stressed and not watching your health? According to Julian Rotter s social learning theory, the two different mentalities people have about how much influence they themselves have on their life events can be categorized into two different groups. Those with internal control believe that they have control over their own behaviour and the subsequent outcomes. Evidence suggests that the relationship between expectancy (freedom of movement) and reinforcement or need values to be multiplicative, but an ampersand is used instead because data on the relationship is still considered inconclusive (Crowne, 2009). Note that in both cases, expectation plays a huge role in determining whether behaviour occurs. Regardless of how big a need or reinforcement, if expectation of satisfaction in a given situation is zero or low, behaviour is unlikely to happen. The concept of external and internal control can be thought of as having low or high expectations for situations that involves personal commitment or action. The primary concerns of this concept involve activities that require one to make judgments about one s own skill or aptitude in a task. If one does not believe that they are skilled, and that any choices they make will make any difference, than activities that are mostly skill based are highly unlikely to occur. Instead, people with external control will be inclined to participate in activities that are more heavily luck based, because the expectancy for reinforcement (rewards) or a need fulfillment tend to be higher than ability based activities. • 50. Racial And White-Dominated Society In Ralph Ellison s The... The Invisible Man was an interesting book to read. It showed the event of African American racism in 1930 through the eyes of the narrator. Ralph Ellison shows his journey through the white dominated society. Ellison intended outcome is to us about the African American society; tell us about the racial, white dominated society; tell us about his experiences in 1930. Ellison intends to write about the African America society in 1930. He tells us the African Americans are constantly discriminated. They are blind to the fact that they are being mistreated and avoid knowing the truth. They try to find their identity in a White dominated society. The Narrator thinks that he is alive to support and gain recognition of white people. He spends many years trying to blend into society. Another example is Mr. Bledsoe. He is an African American person who puts blending into white society above his own people. He declares that he would bring down every African American before he loses his job. Ellison shows how African Americans try to join white society and those that have been excepted keep it as an accomplishment and would never give it away. The second intended outcome was to tell us about racial, white dominated society. He tells us that they discriminated African Americans and believed that every one of them was not a human. They also believed that every African American was a tool. The Narrator tells us that he was thrown into a battle royal for the white people to enjoy. Then after the battle, he was shown money, but it was a fake and a trick to entertain the white people. A second example is the statue of the founder. The Narrator sees that the statue shows a symbolism that white people still did not believe that African Americans were not entirely free. Another example is when the narrator is in the hospital. While he is at the hospital the doctor tests electrical shock therapy on the narrator and even tries to castrate him. The white people believe that African Americans are not entirely free and that they can be used for their own entertainment or for their testing. The third intended outcome is to tell us about his experience through this time period. He shows us that he experiences ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Racism also takes part of this reading with the attack of Louima by police while being incarcerated, the attack affected him emotionally and mentally because of the abuse he put up with. Her studies conducted research which resulted in the book The Myth of Marginality: Urban Poverty and Politics in Rio de Janeiro, published in 1976. The book extensively disagreed with the negative perspectives of the urban poor that were prevalent at the time. Her first book criticized the attitude accepted by the people against the urban poor for their alleged disability to integrate themselves into the city s job market. In 1999, thirty years later, Perlman decided to revisit Rio de Janeiro and began a new study with the previously used locations: the favela of Catacumba, which was destroyed in 1970, forcing its residents to relocated to multiple low income apartment complexes known as conjuntos; Nova Brasilia, which became part of the infamous Complexo do Alemao (a complex of many favelas); and lastly the municipality of Duque de Caxias which is located in region known as the Lowlands of the State of Rio (Baixada Fluminense). Some of them would just travel. They would walk from town to town, paying for whatever they needed to survive. Wordsworth was one of those people. He would take trips that lasted years. After one of these very long journeys, he came back home, and sat on a hillside a few miles above Tintern Abbey, an old, ruined cathedral. It truly was a long journey. Five years have past, he says. Five years is a long timeto be away from home. As he sat there, above the cathedral, he thought a lot about what it was like to come back home. In his poem, Lines Written a few Miles Above Tintern Abbey, William Wordsworth says a lot about the progression of individual life, and the steady, circular repetitiveness of life as a whole. First, Wordsworth writes about the past. Much of the poem is a reflection of his earlier days. He feels quite nostalgic toward his childhood.
