The document discusses emerging trends that are transforming the purchasing function. Traditional large organizations are losing their thought leadership role as legacy technologies and bureaucratic processes have hindered innovation. New segments and smaller companies are demonstrating more innovative approaches. For purchasing professionals, skills in areas like change management, technology adoption, and global experience will be increasingly important. Emerging technologies like cloud, mobile, IoT, and data analytics are shifting expectations and enabling more consumer-like and responsive processes.
This document discusses fundamentals of international purchasing and procurement strategy. It defines international purchasing as commercial transactions between buyers and suppliers in different countries. The goals are to meet manufacturing needs, ensure reliable supply sources, and access optimal global sources regardless of location. Drivers of international purchasing include technological advances, declining communication/transportation costs, and economic transformation in emerging markets. Challenges include lack of cross-cultural skills, tariffs, long lead times, and legal/logistical issues. Success requires centralized decision making, decentralized operations, communication, information sharing, critical resources, and sourcing/contracting systems. Future trends include seeking globally capable suppliers and cost reduction through emerging low-cost markets.
This document summarizes Irvine Scientific's raw material sourcing and management program. It discusses the company's 40-year history in cell culture, the markets it serves, and its parent company. The presentation outlines Irvine's raw material program elements, including historical events of contamination issues, operational excellence through industry best practices like dual sourcing, quality excellence through continuous improvement and analysis, and ensuring service excellence through seamless integration of custom customer needs. It concludes that the program aims to align with industry expectations through a practical risk-based management approach and ensure successful execution through business continuity.
The document discusses international procurement strategies and global sourcing strategies. It defines strategic purchasing as coordinating procurement requirements across business units to acquire goods and services in a way that supports business needs. A global sourcing strategy aims to reduce costs, access new technologies, establish alternative suppliers to reduce risk, and take advantage of superior quality from supplier investments. Developing an effective global sourcing strategy requires determining objectives, quality standards, quantities, suppliers, prices, and managing various risks and challenges of operating across different countries.
The document discusses the benefits and risks of international procurement. It begins by defining procurement and outlining the research objectives, which are to examine the benefits and risks of international procurement and determine if issues exist globally. Key benefits identified are lower costs due to differences in currency exchange rates and labor costs between countries. However, risks include fraud, poor quality of goods/services, and difficulties managing distant suppliers. The document provides examples and sources to support the benefits and risks discussed.
Global Sourcing Trends, Challenges, and Solutions For 2015Bill Kohnen
Global Sourcing is viewed as a common business practice but is surprisingly not well defined in practice and can mean different things depending on where one is that. However, western CEOs and CPOs view it as a basic practice to be competitive despite feeling the process is not well measured or managed. Solutions for better performance come down to developing people and evolving process.

The 7 steps include: 1) developing a category profile through spending and supply market analysis, 2) creating a sourcing strategy, 3) generating a supplier portfolio, 4) selecting an implementation plan such as negotiations or auctions, 5) negotiating and selecting suppliers, 6) implementing agreements, and 7) continuous improvement of the sourcing process. Major companies like P&G, HUL, IBM and Dell have used this framework to achieve cost savings of 10-20%.
As Procurement organizations optimize and automate sourcing and procurement processes to handle Indirect Spend, there is a renewed focus to extend the same automation to Direct Material Spend. With increased globalization, outsourcing and raw material cost inflation, controlling Direct Material spend is key to driving sustainable savings and improve risk mitigation.
Join this session to hear from Ardent Partners and key Ariba customers who leverage extensive collaboration and automation to capture more direct & indirect spend and drive sustainable savings and risk mitigation in their supply chains.

Moving from the private to the public sector procurement takes adjustment. Initially, public sector procurement feels slower and less flexible without negotiation. However, the public sector offers benefits like consortia frameworks and no competition law issues. While there is less freedom, proper preparation including strong requirements, market intelligence, and stakeholder management can blend the best of both worlds. Public sector experience values disciplined, structured processes while private sector skills provide commercial knowledge and an ability to challenge limitations productively. The ideal is bringing the confidence and control of private sector experience together with the strengths of public sector collaboration and evaluation techniques.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/hcl-notes-and-domino-license-cost-reduction-in-the-world-of-dlau/
The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. As a Notes and Domino customer, you may have faced challenges with unexpected user counts and license costs. You probably have questions on how this new licensing approach works and how to benefit from it. Most importantly, you likely have budget constraints and want to save money where possible. Don’t worry, we can help with all of this!
We’ll show you how to fix common misconfigurations that cause higher-than-expected user counts, and how to identify accounts which you can deactivate to save money. There are also frequent patterns that can cause unnecessary cost, like using a person document instead of a mail-in for shared mailboxes. We’ll provide examples and solutions for those as well. And naturally we’ll explain the new licensing model.
Join HCL Ambassador Marc Thomas in this webinar with a special guest appearance from Franz Walder. It will give you the tools and know-how to stay on top of what is going on with Domino licensing. You will be able lower your cost through an optimized configuration and keep it low going forward.
These topics will be covered
- Reducing license cost by finding and fixing misconfigurations and superfluous accounts
- How do CCB and CCX licenses really work?
- Understanding the DLAU tool and how to best utilize it
- Tips for common problem areas, like team mailboxes, functional/test users, etc
- Practical examples and best practices to implement right away

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

In a fully automated sourcing process, having the wrong MG could mean a
demand is transmitted to the wrong buyer using the wrong sourcing strategy

16. Applications
User homepage
Exostar secure log in
Open access content
Supplier Portal homepage
16
eTools start with a Portal that provides both a ‘front desk’ and a gateway to
secure transactions for all users
17. We used the Innovation Portal to ask the people (including customers and suppliers) to draw
what their perfect Portal homepage might look like……
It would be great
to LOGIN once to
all applications
I need access to
Outlook email and
calendar
I want live task
updates from
all my tools
I would like
Quick links to
frequently
used
tools/sites
I want access to my
inboxes and workqueue
I want to be able to
search for parts as
easily as Amazon
I want to create
Widgets to allow me
to switch between
tools, dashboards and
web pages
We are designing our eBusiness Portal by listening to all users…..
18. We harness these ideas to design a new Portal
that becomes an intuitive focal point for all supply
chain activities and users
CUSTOMERS:
Customers can execute
purchases
SUPPLIERS:
LOGIN as ‘License to Supply’
allowing upload of product
information
PURCHASING:
‘Back office’ tools to manage
strategy, approve items and
execute purchases
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
Back office tools to manage
supply chain enablers, e.g.
ePO, eDrawings, ERS
MANAGERS:
View up to date reports,
dashboard and KPIs
EXTERNAL AUDIT:
Access all activity and
view/edit audit reports
COMPLIANCE:
Access all activity and
upload/manage audit
reports
New Portal
….because a perfect Portal works for everyone in the supply chain

We aim to increase usage of these
applications and fully embed
them in our automated processes
Today we have a range of
applications, available to parts
of the business, which have
mixed functionality

20. Implementation plan and deliverables
▪ The customer is anyone who uses a purchasing
application or processes
▪ The model will provide both reactive
support/advice and proactive continuous
improvement for tools and processes
▪ There will be a single point of contact “triage”
▪ The model will include some form of business
representation
▪ A tool will be used to log all calls
▪ There will be clear pathways for issue
resolution
▪ There will be clear roles and responsibilities for
and between; the business, the function and IT

26. • Enabling eBusiness requires global transformation of data, eTools and
process
• Starting from a clean sheet is unlikely: existing activity, resources and
people need to be marshalled
• Collaboration leads to the quickest and most effective solution that is
fully bought into across the business
• One size does not fit all; solutions must allow for the „flavours‟ of the
business
