Introduction and History
RewariwalayHajiRabri established in 1948. Haji Bashiruddin and his family migrated from
Rewari to settle in Hyderabad, where he set up shop in the historic Tahir Bazaar and since then
his recipe for Rabri would become a brand name, not only for his new hometown, but across
Pakistan, rather, the world. From Haji Bashiruddin's time till today, the shop has remained a
family business run.Naveed Sheikh;paternal great grand-son of Haji Bashiruddin, is now look
after the business.
Stake Holders
Management is in the hands of three brothers, named as Naveed Shaikh, Naeem Shaikh and
Fahim Shaikh. Other major stake holders include, Muhammad Hanif, sugar supplier, Ashraf
naqshbandi, milk supplier and Saleemshaikh plastic packet supplier. The profile traits cover both
good and bad qualities of them. Their good quality is, they all are focused and supportive.
Everyone contributes their fair share, that’s what makes it brand.Their bad quality is, when any
shortage occurs in the material or used item, the suppliers do not arrange for them as per contract
& ultimately they have to face difficulty to complete their orders.
Strength of Organization
They are the pioneer of rabri. They introduced it in Pakistan for the first time. Since the
establishment, it would become a brand name.Their defining item and the one sweet which sells
the most is their original Rabri. While Haji Rabri remains a specialty, they have introduced other
sweetmeats and extended their product line. The significant quality and aroma of their
sweetsintact and let travelers take it with them to other cities without affecting its taste.Their
biggest achievement is, their customer-base stretches across Pakistan.
Major Problems or Challenges
As the bashiruddin’s family was new in the town,so it was a big challenge for themto start their
business in new place. After the death of Nooruddin (Naveed’sfather), it was difficult for the
family to earn.Naveed's widowed mother then had to seek help from other family members to
look after the shop. The other challenge is related to the conservation, they had to face
preservation problems as the temperature of Hyderabad is demanded to keep the sweets cool (the
refrigerators hadn’t enough capacity to carry the large amount of sweets, so to keep it cool they
used to keep a piece of muslin over the Rabri).Still the difficulties were there, when the business
got popularity, many have tried to copy the recipe and use the ‘Haji Rabri’ brand name to lure
their customers.
Solutions
As the time passes, they had overcome all the challenges. In a very short period of time they
became known by their famous rabri and nowthey are conducting their business activities
successfully in Hyderabad. In the past they had to seek help from other family members to look
after the shop but now the business is in the hands of three brothers, currently they are running
their family business. They have dealt with the preservation problems also, now they have large
cold storage. To keep the business original, Naveed Sheikh got the name ‘Rewariwalay Haji
Rabri’ registered and trademarked a few years ago.
Results & Benefits
Haji rabri has been emerged so fast in such a competitive environment. They cope up with all the
challenges they had & became the unbeatable competitor till now due to their differentiated
product, which is rabri.
Competitors
Their biggest competitor is Haji Ibrahim rabriwalay.Still they couldn’t reach to their level. It is
not easy for them to make the rabri as tasteful as the haji rabriwalay make. Even after the 69
years of excellence, still no one can stand against them.
Plan for Future Growth
They are growing tremendously not in Hyderabad but now in Karachi. As the business got
domestic popularity in Hyderabad, the owners decided to open their branch in the area of sadder
Karachi in 2014 and now planning to expand their business in other cities of Pakistan.
Conclusion
They have widened their vision, they didn’t stick in one place but they opened new doors of
success & prosperity. They haveattained their major goals but this is not enough for them, many
more things are waiting in pipeline to be accomplished. They have such business capabilities
which differentiated them&made them more profitable in the market.
Varda Shaikh, Hiba Shaikh and Maryam Qazi in Isra University Hyderabad, Pakistan
