Background
• Born in a royal Muslim traditional family.
• Received her schooling from Irish Convent
School.
• At very young age, she had interest in
poetry and English literature.
• Married at the age of 15 and had a child at
the age of 16.
• Went to Teheran along with her husband.
Background
• Developed a keen interest in beauty
treatments.
• Trained for 10 years in cosmetic therapy
and cosmetology from leading institutions
of London, Paris, New York and
Copenhagen.
• Learnt about the harmful effects of
chemicals on human body and therefore
she turned her attention to Ayurveda.
Making of an Entrepreneur
• Returned to India in 1977.
• Started a saloon at her home in Delhi with
very little capital investment of Rs 35,000.
• Offered Ayurvedic beauty treatment.
• Soon booked for 6 months in advance.
• Believed in the word of mouth publicity by
the satisfied customers.
• Started Shahnaz Husain group.
Expansion of Her Business
• Given an opportunity to represent India in
London during “The Festival of India” in
1980.
• Captured a huge market there.
• First Asian whose goods were retailed in
western markets by Galeries Lafayette in
Paris, Harrods and Selfridges in London,
Bloomingdales in New York, Seibu Chain
in Japan, Sultan Stores in Middle-East etc.
Products
• Offers exclusive saloon treatments as well
as a number of commercial formulations
for the treatment of specific problems like
pimples, acne, pigmentation etc.
• Uses Ayurvedic method of treatment.
• Selling almost 400 types of products for
general beauty care, treatment of skin and
scalp disorders, health and fitness.
Business Mode
• Has used the franchising mode to expand
the business in India and abroad.
• A large network of over 600 franchisees
and associate clinics around the world.
• In 2002, obtained distributor rights for
Australia, New Zealand and Fizi Islands.
Diversification
• Ayurvedic centers for Panchkarma, Dhara
and Kerala massage.
• Two Shahnaz Husain Ayurvedic Health
Resorts, one near Delhi and another in
collaboration with Hyakumata group of
Japan in the US island of Spain.
• Fitness Fiesta Shadrinks-low calories
herbal drinks for summers.
Aim
It was my aim to get India
on the World beauty map
as I felt terrible about the
fact that India was never
represented at any world
beauty congress.

• Represented the country for the first time
in CIDESCO World Beauty Congress in
the late 1970s in the New York and was
appointed president of the congress
proceedings.
• Elected Chairman of the I.T.E.C.
International Beauty Congress in 1981.
• Represented India at the Cosmetic Fair at
Brighton, U.K.

Future Plans
• Has started working on formulations that
astronauts could carry them in their extra-
terrestrial sojourns to protect their skin
