Should Uniforms Wear School Uniforms
For many years schools have become more about fashion rather than education. During this time
teachers and principals have debated on what solution to come up with. Should Sir John A. Macdonald
(SJAM) have uniforms? Some people believe that uniforms take away the right of self expression.
Others argue that uniforms keep students focused on studies rather than fashion. Wearing school
uniforms should become mandatory because it ensures equality within the school, reduces expenses,
and it creates discipline in the school. Uniforms maintain equality within the school. Students should
not have to worry about peer pressure when it comes to their clothes. When everyone is dressed the
same, concerning about how you look isn t so important. A study in the U.S Department of Education
shows that by wearing a school uniform student s sense of security raised 41% and over ¾ of teachers
agreed that uniforms were the reason for that happened. Students feel much more secure in school
since they cannot be victims of bullies for being dressed in a certain way. For example, it would be
much more difficult for a bully to make fun of how students are dressed especially if they are dressed
exactly the same. According to the Department of Education in the U.S students sense of belonging
also increased, this is because when students are dressed like their peers it makes them feel more
equitable, valuable and included. Academically this is important for students because if students are
feeling unhappy and excluded they will not be interested in their studies or even coming to school.
Some people might argue that uniforms do not spread equality because it takes away the right of
expressing their individuality. While that may be true individuality is what distinguishes us from
others, but clothing isn t the only way to do that. You can express yourself through what you do for
example sports, music, art, etc. This is beneficial to students because they won t judge others by their
looks but by their personality. As for equality, it means equal, which is a key reason to have uniforms
because it allows all students to look and feel equal. In Junior high, it is hard enough to go through
your peers judging you for how you look, but

Rites of Passage: Laotian Culture
Here I am at the crossroads into adulthood. I stand before the threshold to adulthood ready to sever the
ties of my youth, and begin new growth on the dead tree that represents childhood. The tree of youth
that once stood tall with all of it s quirky branches and knots, now lays horizontal, ready to give my
new growth all the water and nutrients it needs to grow. (Eli Keltz) From birth to death in any culture
whether it be eastern or western there are special times in ones life that signify the path to maturity
through birth, adolescence, marriage and death. Rite of passage is a term ... Show more content on

For example after a couples first child is born, a ceremony is held to give an honorific name to the
young father. The ceremony marks the young grooms passage into full familial responsibility. During
the event the father in law is invited to give the child an honorific name which usually means he
would add one name to the son in laws original name. Occasionally the father in law would give the
young man a completely new name which is usually two or more syllables long. Hence Laotians long
first and last names on paper. But that isn t all, three days after a child is born the family holds a sort
of soul calling ceremony which is added on to the naming ceremony also. The purpose of the ritual is
to call upon the soul of the newborn towards the family to aid in giving the child a name. Being a
highly superstitious culture the belief in ghosts, spirits and monsters is highly regarded. This relates
back to the roots that are retained from ancient Buddhist beliefs that came throughout history over
time. Yet in order to call the soul of the child to the family a pig or a chicken is ritually slaughtered,
then roasted and eaten by the family thus ending the ritual. As the child gets older there is not really
any rite of passage into the adolescent stage of life. Unlike those who have Bar mitzvahs and
quincineras to signify passage into adulthood for women and men Lao culture is more simple and
everything is based on gender and again reflects Buddhist thinking of

Malthus s Theory Of The Demographic Transition Theory
In 1798, Thomas Robert Malthus was ahead of his time. Malthus, an English economist and
demographer, brought to life his theory on how an over populated planet would not be able to provide
for those who reside on it (Macionis, 2013 p .635). Although Malthus was an economic pessimist, he
brought to light a very real truth. Now, 218 years later, Malthus s theory has in some way become a
reality. Although rich nations have slowed in regards to reproduction, poor nations continue to have
high birth rates which put a strain on the global aspects of the environment. As our planet now holds
over 7 billion people (US Census Bureau, 2016), scientists, economists, and environmentalist s
struggle to find a solution to our growing problem. One theory that explains this population change is
the demographic transition theory. This theory, defined as a thesis that links population patterns to a
society s level of technological development (Macionis, 2013 p. 636), suggests that the key to
population control lies in technology. Demographic transition theory is a general description of the
mortality, fertility and growth rates as societies move from one transition to another. There are 4 main
stages of the demographic transition theory. Stage 1 includes preindustrial and agrarian societies in
which high birth rates and high death rates were common (Macionis, 2013 p. 637). With there being
no form of birth control, children become an economic value in the fields as workers. Death is

My favourite constellation is Orion (the hunter). I chose this constellation because I am very interested
in Greek mythology (which is where the story of this constellation comes from), and I often see this
constellation in the night sky. Orion can be found throughout the world and is on the celestial equator.
It is one of the most well known constellations in the sky. Orion is most clearly visible from February
to November. This constellation is comprised mainly of 7 stars three make up Orion s belt, two make
up his feet, and two make up his shoulders. Alnilam, Mintaka and Alnitak are the three stars in Orion s
belt, Betelgeuse is his right shoulder, Bellatrix is his left shoulder, Rigel is his left foot and Saiph is his
right foot. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

skilled huntsman, he was unable to defeat the scorpion, and he died. When Artemis found out, she was
heart broken, and in order to maintain his memory and legacy, she placed him among the stars in a
constellation. One day, the great huntsman Orion was out looking for prey in a forest. Out of the
corner of his eye, he glimpsed a flash of white. He turned around extremely slowly, while at the same
time readying his bow and nocking an arrow. There in front of him was a magnificent white stag. It
did not move, but gazed at him, as if daring him to shoot. Suddenly, within his mind, Orion heard a
voice. You have the opportunity to kill me, to take me as your own. But be aware that the
consequences will be great. You will have the feeling of success as you take my life, but the loss of a
life must be repaid in kind. Orion realised the voice was coming from the stag. He had heard before of
the magical powers of white stags, but he decided to not heed the words of the majestic creature. He
took aim, and loosed his bow. His arrow flew through the air. Just as it was about

Mental Illnesses Analysis
Regarding what is known as, mental illness makes it hard to believe or not to believe that mental
illness is real and not a myth. With the ongoing changes that are made to diagnosing patients as well
as the symptoms they must encounter, it is hard to know exactly what medical abnormalities would
fall under this category to be diagnosed with what is known as a mental illness. Do to the various
definitions and meanings that fall under mental illnesses I would have to say that I agree and disagree
with what Thomas Szasz has written. Szasz has some great points but many that I disagree with.
Doctors, as well as, medical experts diagnose individuals with what they are thought to be as mental
illnesses. But how is a mental illness diagnosed

The Effect Of Solar Power On The Environment
There is basic knowledge known about solar power, but do we know as much as we should? The
answer is no. Citizens and everyday people living in the United States do not know as much as they
should about solar power. Because these people do not know as much as one should, the government
should allow more money to be spent on researching and finding improvements to solar power for
several reasons. Despite how much knowledge we know about solar power, the US government
should fund research for solar power to better the environment.
It is important for the government to set aside money for to research solar power because of the
improvements that can be made. With this research that could be done, these kinks in solar power now
can be ironed out, and make solar power more efficient and better which will eventually in the long
run help our environment. The many advantages that solar gives to a person living an everyday life
and the benefits to the environment is unbelievable. Although, there are many advantages already
associated with solar power having more research done could never hurt to someone who is going to
potentially buy solar panels. Solar power right now has several uses and ways the sun can help in
everyday life, but with more research solar power can have many more uses and eventually become
more efficient and more widely used instead of using the alternative fossil fuels. Despite the fact that
fossil fuels do everything for most families and people, it is terrible

California Compare And Contrast
Utah / California
Compare and Contrast
Utah and California have numerous similarities and differences from post Native American settlement,
religious affiliation, to demographic concentrations. Both states are in the western United States but I
believe that there are more obvious differences between the states then similarities between them. A
majority of lower and mid western US states has seen the exploration efforts of the Spanish, but other
then this the settlement efforts of Utah and California have a bigger presence of distinctions. Utah can
be seen being settled by the Latter Day Saints to escape religious persecution from those in the US
east, while California rather than religion experienced immigration and settlement due to the

Growing Up In A Bilingual Classroom
I stare mesmerized at the Fourth of July fireworks exploding colorfully overhead and struggle to form
an intelligible sound. Gurgling and sputtering, I finally spit out the French word violet as if by magic.
My first word. As the son of an American dad and a French mom, I bleed red, white, and blue and
bleu, blanc, et rouge. Although my first word was in French, I grew up in the United States and
learned the French and English languages simultaneously in a bicultural environment. I spoke French
at home with my parents and English in public. My American and French backgrounds are an
inextricable part of my identity and the experiences they bring have shaped and enhanced my life.

from the exposure to languages with others, this summer, without any prior computer programming
experience, I combined my passion for languages and technology by developing a smartphone
application that teaches toddlers simple words and sentence structure in various languages. The
application is intuitive enough for young children to effortlessly handle and has modes of use that
imitate the way humans naturally learn to speak a language: through listening, repetition, and

The Effects Of Technology On The Human Mind
As time continues on, technology slowly grows as a bigger part of people lives every day. In the Back
to the Future film series, people truly thought that by this time in the 21st century, 2015, the world
would hold some of the greatest technology yet, and humans have created some immensely useful
machines, but most people cannot step away from a tiny piece of tech that people call a smartphone.
They might be deemed as helpful but also damaging if taken advantage of. Albert Einstein, a German
theoretical physicist, once said, I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction.
People have begun to believe that this day has come upon us. Human s involvement with smartphones
has grown significantly, and this has begun a list of negative effects on the human mind. Scientists
have studied some of the many effects of the internet and smart phones. Many people have noticed a
growing change with cell phones and mental disorders, and this has started to become a problem. Cell
phones have many components, and their link to mental disorders also holds many parts. The first part
in the link between cell phones and mental disorders classifies to all of their growing components,
their causes and negative effects, but people have started to find ways to put their phones down and
others, and studies have begun the help prevent even further damage. Cell phone growth has become a

The Pervasiveness Of Media In Contemporary US Culture
Indeed, the pervasiveness of media in its copious forms in contemporary US culture today is
undeniable. Almost anywhere one looks, one can find media; a magazine at a doctor s office, a
billboard alongside a freeway, a painting at an art gallery, a performance on television or on stage.
Media, undeniably, is ubiquitous. However, in the innumerous forms media comes to us in, every one
of these forms are created for a purpose; to communicate of an idea or message. But how are students,
as well as educators, supposed to interact and interpret media? Auspiciously, just as with any subject
of study, one must become literate in its forms and uses. Thus, media literacy is a vital tool set for
interacting and interpreting content of any discipline; particularly history education. Certainly, media
literacy seeks to teach fluency in the forms of media, how it functions and can influence trends in
society. However, media and its messages are not a direct form of communication. Media does not
offer a transparent window, as Buckingham writes, only a representation of an idea (Buckingham,
2004. p. .) Further, this representation of an idea or message, as Hoechsmann Poyntz write, always
involve(s) a reflection, selection and deflection of reality (Hoechsmann Poyntz, 2012, p. 73). Thus, to
achieve fluency with media, the goal of media literacy is to develop personal agency within an
individual. Personal agency, as defined by Buckingham, is the ability to be an active

activities. Cells in our bodies need glucose to respire and in the process release the energy we need.
Glucose is also a type of carbohydrate. It has a chemical formula of C6H12O6 and is a
monosaccharide reducing sugar (Kolej Mara Banting Students Handbook for Biology HL Year 1). It is
the simplest form of carbohydrate. In this experiment, sulphuric acid, H2SO4 and potassium

The Four Function of Management
Abstract
I will be providing an overview of the four functions of management and how it relates to the agency I
am currently employed with, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control
(SC DHEC). Based on what I have read in Management: The New Competitive Landscape (2004) I
find that my agency is typical in many ways. We have multiple layers of management:
1. SC DHEC Director
a. Assistant Agency Director
i. Region 1 Health Director
1. Region 1 Administrator
a. Region 1 System Coordinator
i. Region 1 BabyNet System Manager

3. Leading – the management function that involves the manager s efforts to stimulate high
performance by employees.
a. Our RLT is made up of exceptional leaders. They have vision and incite to come together as a team
to create a plan that is obtainable and challenging. We have team meetings, Region 1 Day, and an
Excellence Award programs. With these incentives, our team is able to keep our employees motivated
and inspired to reach our day to day goals. We have a customer concern/compliment form where we
get feed back from customers and I am happy to say that we receive more compliments than concerns.
I believe this is because of the leadership team that we have.
4. Controlling – the management function of monitoring progress and making needed changes.
a. One of the ways that we have to monitor our agency is by performing audits. We use tools that are
tailored to the policies and procedures we must follow. We also use specific tools for each para
professional discipline. We have to ensure that each discipline is meeting the specific requirements to
maintain his or her license. Summary
To summarize, I have to say that each function of management is important to business today. They
may be ever changing but the basic fundamentals will always stay the same. We must have managers
that are prepared, who can systematize, who can be influential, and with the abilities to evaluate.

My 3 Values Essay
Maturity is achieved when a person postpones immediate pleasures for long term values, according to
Joshua Liebman. Values can be just about anything that you can imagine. My 3 values are respect,
loyalty, and honesty. I believe that my three values are what describe me and will help me when I m
older with the decisions that I make.
Respect is one of the most important values to me because they mostly matter in the way that if
someone shows no respect for you or others they more than likely have no respect coming to
themselves or showing it to others. To be respected, learn to respect others to show growth and
maturity. If we don t learn at an earlier age to respect others, such as our peers, adults, or parents, we

To have loyalty in life, can go a long way, most of my values, and goals, the mostly contribute to the
fact that, promotion and advancement are the two main consistent goals in my life. Loyalty contributes
to many things in life such as how we work relationships. Loyalty is treated in my different ways, I
had a dog named Rex, he was a small Pitbull mixed with Boxer, him and I, were playing outside one
day, he saw another boy, and ran off with him, I thought he would ve came back, but he never showed
up, I thought I could never have another dog without knowing what happened to my first dog. I
realized that you have to move on from the hard and difficult and just accept life, even if it is hard, just
never giving up or not stopping because of one person or of one thing that is making you stop and not
accomplish your dreams. Loyalty is the second value most important to me in my 3 values, such as

Essay On A Rose For Emily Grierson
In William Faulkner s short story A Rose for Emily, Faulkner uses¬ the normality of tradition versus
change that is destined to occur, along with the power of death. Through the enigmatic figure of Emily
Grierson, Faulkner conveys that Emily struggles to come to terms with death, rather than accepting it
she tries to overrule it. As a living testament to the past, she serves as the traditions from past decades
that people wish to respect and honor; nonetheless, she is also a burden and entirely disconnected from
the outside world as she sees it. Within these struggles that we see our main character go through we

works for her. Rather than go out and experience the new innovations throughout her town she refuses
to simply let it go. More specifically, Emily Grierson has been a traditionalist, a duty, and a care; a sort
of hereditary obligation upon the town (33). The importance of tradition was very important to Emily,
due to the fact that she simply could not accept change. For instance there was a scene in which the
whole town had gotten there mail boxes up to date with brand new numbers affixed to the side of their
house. Emily refused all of it. The past is not a vague shimmer but more of an ideal reality. Emily s
frightening bridal chamber is an intense attempt to stop time and to simply stop change, although this
comes at the expense of another human beings life. Death hangs over A Rose for Emily, from the very
beginning Faulkner s mention of Emily s death through these descriptions of modern changes
occurring within her society. In every case, death prevails and always out beats over every other

Essay on Bop Music in the 1950s
The Bop Beat
The bebop revolution coincided with the birth of the Beat Generation. In a slightly unbalanced
relationship, Beat writers often molded their poetics and style after the playing of such jazz music.
Jazz writers, such as Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg, upheld their poetic ideals to the techniques of
jazz musicians, such as rhythm, improvisation, and call and response. The structure of creative writing
underwent a change, as the importance of form equaled that of theme.
Swing, the predecessor of bop, was big, sweet, and hot. The performers were big bands, fronted by a
charismatic bandleader, yet the success of a piece depended mostly on the unity of the ensemble as a
whole, rather than on the showcasing of prodigious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of the traditional stressing of the first and third beat of a measure, as in traditional Western
music, bop music stresses the second and fourth. The playing pattern usually initiates with the theme,
then follows with a reed solo, trumpet solo, piano solo, bass or drum solo every second, third, or
fourth number. Within a song would sometimes hold trading fours, alternating four bar improvisations
between instruments. Usually, the piece would end with a restatement of the theme (Jones 42 43).
Additionally, when familiar tunes were included, it was to satirize such antiseptic creations of the
white world, and were more often then not turned upon their heads and wrecked for bop motives.
Bop musicians rejected the idea of playing solely for an audience; they graduated from the roles of
entertainers to the positions of musicians. Their music was not as melodic and hyperactive as swing.
Subsequently, bop never became an obsession of popular culture, and remained introspective, for a
largely introspective Beat culture.
The Beat Generation was a movement which rebelled against the social and literary conformity and
conservatism of white, middle class, suburban, post war America. The term Beat holds many origins.
One is canonized, as tired and weary. Another derivation, pinpointed by Kerouac, comes from the
word beatitude, holy, state of ultimate bliss. A relevant definition to jazz involves the

Southern Mesopotamia
Some of the earliest human civilizations arose in southern Mesopotamia, in what is now southern Iraq,
in the fourth millennium B.C.E. In the second half of the millennium, in the south around the city of
Uruk, there was an enormous escalation in the area occupied by permanent settlements. A large part of
that increase took place in Uruk itself, which became a real urban center surrounded by a set of
secondary settlements. While population estimates are notoriously unreliable, scholars assume that
Uruk inhabitants were able to support themselves from the agricultural production of the field
surrounding the city, which could be reached with a daily commute. But Uruk s dominant size in the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Driverless Car
Advantages: 1.Driverless cars can improve the safety of the traffic. According to the statistics of the
World Health Organization, there are 1.24 million people die of traffic accidents each year in the
world, and this figure will reach 2.2 million by 2030. In the United States, about 33,000 people die of
traffic accidents each year. Driverless cars can dramatically reduce the number of traffic accidents,
which could save the lives of millions of people. The Eno Center for Transportation study shows that
if 90% of cars on the road in the U.S. will become driverless cars, the number of car accidents will
drop from 6 million to 1.3 million. Driverless can avoid some traffic accidents caused by driver s
error, and can reduce drunk driving, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Second, smart cars can monitor real time traffic conditions by using satellite navigation to map out the
best route, in order to reduce the traffic jams. 4. Allow the driver to have more free space. People are
not allowed to use their mobile phone while driving a car. Drivers need to concentrate on driving a car
to prevent accidents. So people waste a lot of time driving the car. Driverless is the liberation of the
driver. Instead of paying too much attention to the road conditions, they can spend their time freely
doing what they want to do. 5. To improve mobility of the elderly, and the disabled people Relying on
driverless cars, the elderly and disabled people do not need to worry about the inconvenience of
traveling, and this will help further the development of social welfare. 6.Parking resources are no
longer nervous. Driverless cars can look for parking spaces on their own when they arrive, rather than
stopping nearby. This can effectively ease the shopping malls, hotels, stations and other crowded
places parking pressure. Disadvantage: Security can not be fully

The Pros And Cons Of Portfolio Theory
During the interviews, it was understood that Portfolio Theory is difficult to apply to loaning
administration. A bank is required to have a flexible credit evaluating process to capture the
individuality of each loan. These differences depend on the size of the loan and the different clients
risks. This makes it difficult to apply loan portfolio diversification compared to a portfolio of bonds or
stocks. Nevertheless, more than the fixed principles banks seem to follow the intuition behind it not to
expose themselves more than a limit.
The banks seem to assume that a well diversified loan portfolio will happen on its own as long as it
covers the strategically important regions. The banks have not focused in on a certain industry or
geographical area historically, all the banks seem to rely on their size when it comes to having a well
diversified loan portfolio. They also maintain the individual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The respondents for this exercise have immense amount of knowledge in the lending context, with
their experience ranging from departments of Credit Risk assessment to loan resolution processing
unit. The designed qualitative method of research in this project probes the respondents as much as
possible. This is done through the design of questions containing only the theoretical framework. It
accurately reflects the complication prevalent in the lending industry and there is possibility that the
respondent will give answer that will try to be succinct and to the point. In the current study, attempt
was made to eliminate as much bias from the pre interview background theory portion by sending the
respondents the set of questions in advance. Furthermore, both positive and negative arguments
concerning loan portfolio diversification were put across to make sure the respondents are supportive
as well as critical of the firm policies and

Identifying Their Usefulness Towards Students Studying...
Sustainability as stated in the oxford dictionary is defined as the ability of something to be maintained
at a certain rate or level. For Geographers this term is often widely used within the discipline. It can be
used to refer to sustainable development or to describe aspects within nature such as sustainable
environments. In this literature review, we will be looking at three different types of resources that
discuss sustainability. Before evaluating their usefulness towards students studying geography. We
will begin by looking at the most traditional form of resource used by students, a book by Cabezas et
al, that discusses a multi disciplinary view of sustainability, then more on towards more modern
resources such as academic journals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2012). Combing the ecological, political and cultural definitions to come to this conclusion. Very early
on the book the importance of sustainability is stressed, linking it both the human and physical
geographical viewpoints in its analysis. Stating that the overconsumption, coupled with the dramatic
increase in our population, taxing the earth in what they argue in a way our species has not done so

disciplines. The book then proceeds to discuss the subject from a biological point of view, before
discussing the other disciplines views relating to the subject.

Roy Adaptation Theory
Running head: ROY S ADAPTATION MODEL Nursing theory is an organized framework of
concepts that are designed to guide nursing practice and provide a foundation for clinical decision
making. There are many different types of nursing theories. This present paper will focus on one of the
Grand theories, the Roy Adaptation model (RAM). The paper is divided into four main sections
focusing on the importance of the RAM; summary of key concepts; view of RAM on specialization;
and conclusion. There has been an evolution of nursing practice from when Florence Nightingale
started. Nurses used to take direct medical direction to an evolution of independence. Today, advanced
practice nurses are PHD, DNP, researchers, nurse practitioners, ... Show more content on

The six steps include assessing behaviors, assessing and categorizing the stimuli, making a diagnosis,
setting goals, implementing interventions, and evaluating achievement. Roy also emphasizes that the
nurses should use their intuitive skills while assessing and initiating interventions. Roy s adaptation
theory has been used to perform nursing research for the past 35 years (Dobratz, 2008). The Boston
Based Adaptation in Nursing Research Society (BBARNS) helped provide and validate the use of Roy
adaptation model in nursing research. They helped identify over 163 studies of which 116 had links to
the RAM process. As a consequence, this theory has been used world wide for research including
holistic methods. I have practiced as a cardiology nurse for the past twenty years and I have seen the
implementation of RAM. Roy s theory can be applied to research pertaining to Cardiology patients.
On example of this is patients suffering with heart failure. It is estimated that 5.1 million patients have
heart failure and one in 9 will die from it (CDC.gov). Furthermore, more than half the patients gt; 65
years of age are readmitted with heart failure with in 6 months. This has started to place a significant

Essay on Exegesis of Matthew
Exegesis of the Gospel according to Matthew Chapter 5:3 12
The Eight Beatitudes
In Matthew s Gospel, starting with Chapter five verses three through twelve, Jesus tells us of the Eight
Beatitudes. These verses are much like The Ten Commandments in nature, but more philosophical:
· Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
· Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
· Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the Earth.
· Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
· Blessed are those who are merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
· Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
· Blessed are the peacemakers, for they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The beatitudes are just a sample of the many teachings that this book has to offer. The text itself
written by Matthew, one of Jesus disciples, does coincide with the beatitudes written by another of
Jesus disciples; Luke. Only Luke writes the beatitudes a little differently than Matthew. One example
of the differences is in the first beatitude where Matthew writes, Blessed are the poor in spirit where
as Luke recorded Jesus as saying only, Blessed are the poor By annexing in spirit Luke suggests that
only the monetarily poor belong in God s kingdom, where Matthew seems to state that material status
or social poverty alone are not the standards for faith. All throughout the beatitudes there seems to be
the theme that it does not matter what is on the outside, but God sees and is only concerned with the
inside of his children. Their hearts and their souls. It doesn t appear God cares much for material
wealth or success in the world, but more so for what is in mans heart. Luke suggests ‘the poor should
be monetarily poor, and if they have any wealth they should give it all up to those more needy to give
glory to God. Money and wealth may be seen by some as a sign of being in God s favor with darker
signs and adversity a sign of some sort of punishment. Which should not be the case at all, Matthew
seems to add in spirit more to identify wealth and social status is not the standard by which God will
judge. Money and wealth do have an

The Codes Of Practices Within The Uk
Introduction
In this piece of work we will be looking briefly at the different codes of practices established in the
UK about corporate governance, merging in it actual data from one of the largest low cost airlines in
Europe and analyzing through a few scandals the issues they have to manage its business, therefore
come to a conclusion on how they should be overcoming this difficulties. Some theories about CG
will be presented in a brief manner, linking them to the way the chosen company has been running its
business.
Corporate Governance
With the time, companies and businesses have become larger and a more powerful force, meaning
they are doing the right things to keep them afloat and gain profits. This is directly related with the
corporate governance within the organization; so to speak, this term is used to define the way the
companies are being directed by its owners and more important what the managers are doing to guide
and how they are achieving it. Cadbury 1992 defines it as the process by which companies are
directed and controlled.
It is needed when the ownership and the management are separated, so there have to be a way to
control the company in harmony between the two parts.
Corporate governance has developed widely as many theories and new best practices codes have been
introduced since the 90s. The introduction in 1992 of the Cadbury report in the UK, recommended a
code of best practice and made companies to comply with it, and if it was unable to do

Evolution Vs. Creationism Debate
In this paper I will be explaining two sides of the evolution vs. creationism debate. The topics I am
going to write about are fossil evidence, the origin of life, and Darwin s theory of natural selection. I
will be presenting a view of both sides of the argument they will be on the creation side and evolution
standpoint. I would suggest that you, the reader, would have a previous knowledge of all the topics so
that you may get a full understanding of both sides. If there is no prior knowledge of one side or
another know that not all people that have beliefs in any of these topics agree with all of these
standings.
There will be three topics discussed that will provide a view of two sides of the argument on the way
that life happened upon earth. For the views of fossil evidence I will present the ideas of relative
dating, this is the assumption that the lower layers of strata are older than the ones atop. For the
creationist, view that a Great Flood happened. The next topic is the origin of life. For the two views I
will present the Miller Urey experiment why it proves evolution and why it doesn t. For my final topic
I will present Darwin s ideas of natural selection why it proves evolution and why it does not.
Fossil evidence is a leading example of why evolution is true. If you open any biology text book you
will find a section on fossils and relative dating. Relative dating is the science of taking fossils from
one sedimentary layer and comparing it to the ones

Carl Jung on Synchronicity
Carl Jung wrote fully about synchronicity very late in his life. His book Synchronicity: the principle of
non causal relations was published in 1952, when he was already over 70 years old. Jung called it an
attempt to represent together all that I can say on this subject. This work is complex, with a lot of
fiddling work that has been read as lectures a year earlier under the title On synchronicity. The great
psychiatrist introduced the concept of synchronicity in 1930, in a speech commemorating his friend
Richard Wilhelm. However, the first draft of the concept of synchronicity was introduced in 1949 in
the introduction to the Book of Changes (I Ching), translated by William. Jung rarely mentioned the
ted synchronicity throughout his works. Synchronicity is a descriptive term for the relations between
the two events related to a common value. To illustrate this concept, Jung described an event that
happened to his patient who always knew everything better than others, making it difficult to advance
therapy. A young woman I was treating had, at a critical moment, a dream in which she was given a
golden scarab. While she was telling me this dream, I sat with my back to the closed window.
Suddenly I heard a noise behind me, like a gentle tapping. I turned round and saw a flying insect
knocking against the window pane from the outside. I opened the window and caught the creature in
the air as it flew in. It was the nearest analogy to a golden scarab one finds in

Crime Prevention Programs Help Protect And Deter Crime...
Crime prevention programs help to prevent and deter crime within neighborhoods by getting the
neighbors involved. Neighborhood watches use residents within a neighborhood to look out for
suspicious activity/ issues then report them to police before any crime occurs. Using this method
potentially deters crime and offenders from committing more crimes. A neighborhood watch can
consist of a block watch, community watch, home watch and citizen alert. Neighborhood crime
prevention programs arose because of the need to get citizens involved in preventing crime.
Overview of history and objectives
Neighborhood Crime Prevention Programs vary in number and purpose. One of the oldest and most
effective neighborhood crime prevention programs in the U.S. is the Neighborhood Watch which was
first started in 1972. The concept of a neighborhood watch can be traced back to days when night
watchmen patrolled the streets. Today, what we know as the neighborhood watch was developed from
sheriff and police chiefs who wanted a neighborhood crime prevention program that would involve the
citizens and to reduce the increase in robberies. Neighborhood watches worked then and continue to
work now because it helps reduce the opportunities to commit crime. The Neighborhood watch was
created to help strengthen the relationships between the neighbors and community crime prevention.
The police have relied on the community for years to help assist with crime prevention. In fact,
neighborhood watches have

African-American Literacy
According to the author, education was not bestowed upon African American by enlightened citizens.
Literacy is viewed as a valuable commodity that African Americans have had limited opportunities to
acquire. And for them becoming literate is perceived as continuous struggle. So Literacy serves
emancipatory function when appropriate to reconstruct a society, so it limits access to those who are
not literate to participate in all cultural institutions. According to Harris, European American do not
fully support the education of African American and would prefer not to fund it at the levels
comparable to funding for their children and would prefer curricula that do not enable African
American to compete with their children for access to high education and possibly opportunities . ...

How Did The Enlightenment Influence Russian Government
Influences of the Enlightenment and Napoleonic France on Russia, Egypt and the Ottoman Empire
In the nineteenth century, leaders of Russia, Egypt and the Ottoman Empire looked to the seventeenth
and eighteenth century philosophies of the European Enlightenment and Napoleonic France as guides
for building a modern state. They emulated military strength and thriving academic and agricultural
institutions, as well as a direct relationship between the general population and national authority
figures. In Russia, Tsar Nicholas looked to the principle of democracy which pervaded the French
revolution, as it was characterized by a direct relationship between the government and its
constituents. In order to appeal to a Russian population that was moved by the prospect of democracy,

His was not the only nation adopting these qualities. In Egypt, Muhammad Ali used the convictions of
these periods as guiding principles in establishing a modern state, beginning with military reform. He
set about modernizing his army, before expanding the Enlightenment and Napoleonic influences
which manifested themselves in his country, to include investment in academia and agriculture. In
response to the Enlightenment s emphasis on free thought and reason, he built new schools for
medicine and engineering. Looking to compete with western European civilizations like Napoleonic
France, he invested in agriculture, developing irrigation systems and building dams. In the Ottoman
Empire, the Sultan Mahmud II also drew inspiration from the Enlightenment and Napoleonic France
on a strategic level, leveraging Western military techniques to recover the national dignity lost in
embarrassing defeats by European armies. His other Enlightenment inspired goal was to make the
Ottoman Empire a society that was hospitable to all religious practices. In seeking to implement his
plans, he was forced to pander to the Muslim population, and local wealthy

The Crucible; Belonging and Identity. Pan s Labyrinth and...
The Crucible Discussion Notes. One s belonging will always be entrenched in the belonging
established by another group; regardless of whether or not you wish to be a part of such a group. That
is to say, even if it is your aim to find your sense of belonging totally outside of another group, the
course of action required to achieve this belonging through not belonging will be influenced by the
sense of belonging established by the group; in your wish to contrast that belonging. A less convoluted
illustration of this concept is embodied in The Crucible s John Proctor; who we all know as the play s
non conformist character. Proctor s identity (identity and belonging being intrinsically linked) is
defined by his rejection of the goings on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, whilst Ofelia may be an individual, there is no escaping the fact that her individualism is
entrenched in (though diametrically opposed to) the belonging established by the group she wishes to
rebel against. Consequences, however, need not be always negative. Angela Carter s short story The
Company of Wolves explores belonging and consequences of belonging through the reinterpretation
of the Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale. In Carter s version, the Red Riding Hood character has
agency unparalleled in any other telling of the tale. In the climax and resolution of the short story, the
text is obviously heavily influenced by second wave feminism (the text was written in 1979, over a
decade since Germaine Greer s groundbreaking The Female Eunuch ). All the better to eat you with.
The girl burst out laughing; she knew she was nobody s meat. She laughed at him full in the face; she
ripped off his shirt for him and flung it into the fire, in the fiery wake of her own discarded clothing.
(pg. 5, para. 6) The whole short story is laced with allusions to coming of age and subtle sexual
imagery; in this excerpt Carter uses the double entendre of the word meat to create an image of
violence (becoming the wolf s meat suggests brutal disembowelment) and sexual objectification (the
wolf sees the girl as simply a virgin sex object; a piece of meat for his consumption), to which the girl
not only objects, but

  • 2. Should Uniforms Wear School Uniforms For many years schools have become more about fashion rather than education. During this time teachers and principals have debated on what solution to come up with. Should Sir John A. Macdonald (SJAM) have uniforms? Some people believe that uniforms take away the right of self expression. Others argue that uniforms keep students focused on studies rather than fashion. Wearing school uniforms should become mandatory because it ensures equality within the school, reduces expenses, and it creates discipline in the school. Uniforms maintain equality within the school. Students should not have to worry about peer pressure when it comes to their clothes. When everyone is dressed the same, concerning about how you look isn t so important. A study in the U.S Department of Education shows that by wearing a school uniform student s sense of security raised 41% and over ¾ of teachers agreed that uniforms were the reason for that happened. Students feel much more secure in school since they cannot be victims of bullies for being dressed in a certain way. For example, it would be much more difficult for a bully to make fun of how students are dressed especially if they are dressed exactly the same. According to the Department of Education in the U.S students sense of belonging also increased, this is because when students are dressed like their peers it makes them feel more equitable, valuable and included. Academically this is important for students because if students are feeling unhappy and excluded they will not be interested in their studies or even coming to school. Some people might argue that uniforms do not spread equality because it takes away the right of expressing their individuality. While that may be true individuality is what distinguishes us from others, but clothing isn t the only way to do that. You can express yourself through what you do for example sports, music, art, etc. This is beneficial to students because they won t judge others by their looks but by their personality. As for equality, it means equal, which is a key reason to have uniforms because it allows all students to look and feel equal. In Junior high, it is hard enough to go through your peers judging you for how you look, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Rites of Passage Laos Essay Rites Of Passage In Third World Laos Thaviesak Nachampassak APY 105 Intro to Anthropology Poltorak, D L Rites of Passage: Laotian Culture Here I am at the crossroads into adulthood. I stand before the threshold to adulthood ready to sever the ties of my youth, and begin new growth on the dead tree that represents childhood. The tree of youth that once stood tall with all of it s quirky branches and knots, now lays horizontal, ready to give my new growth all the water and nutrients it needs to grow. (Eli Keltz) From birth to death in any culture whether it be eastern or western there are special times in ones life that signify the path to maturity through birth, adolescence, marriage and death. Rite of passage is a term ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example after a couples first child is born, a ceremony is held to give an honorific name to the young father. The ceremony marks the young grooms passage into full familial responsibility. During the event the father in law is invited to give the child an honorific name which usually means he would add one name to the son in laws original name. Occasionally the father in law would give the young man a completely new name which is usually two or more syllables long. Hence Laotians long first and last names on paper. But that isn t all, three days after a child is born the family holds a sort of soul calling ceremony which is added on to the naming ceremony also. The purpose of the ritual is to call upon the soul of the newborn towards the family to aid in giving the child a name. Being a highly superstitious culture the belief in ghosts, spirits and monsters is highly regarded. This relates back to the roots that are retained from ancient Buddhist beliefs that came throughout history over time. Yet in order to call the soul of the child to the family a pig or a chicken is ritually slaughtered, then roasted and eaten by the family thus ending the ritual. As the child gets older there is not really any rite of passage into the adolescent stage of life. Unlike those who have Bar mitzvahs and quincineras to signify passage into adulthood for women and men Lao culture is more simple and everything is based on gender and again reflects Buddhist thinking of ... • 4. Malthus s Theory Of The Demographic Transition Theory In 1798, Thomas Robert Malthus was ahead of his time. Malthus, an English economist and demographer, brought to life his theory on how an over populated planet would not be able to provide for those who reside on it (Macionis, 2013 p .635). Although Malthus was an economic pessimist, he brought to light a very real truth. Now, 218 years later, Malthus s theory has in some way become a reality. Although rich nations have slowed in regards to reproduction, poor nations continue to have high birth rates which put a strain on the global aspects of the environment. As our planet now holds over 7 billion people (US Census Bureau, 2016), scientists, economists, and environmentalist s struggle to find a solution to our growing problem. One theory that explains this population change is the demographic transition theory. This theory, defined as a thesis that links population patterns to a society s level of technological development (Macionis, 2013 p. 636), suggests that the key to population control lies in technology. Demographic transition theory is a general description of the mortality, fertility and growth rates as societies move from one transition to another. There are 4 main stages of the demographic transition theory. Stage 1 includes preindustrial and agrarian societies in which high birth rates and high death rates were common (Macionis, 2013 p. 637). With there being no form of birth control, children become an economic value in the fields as workers. Death is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Feminist Explanation My favourite constellation is Orion (the hunter). I chose this constellation because I am very interested in Greek mythology (which is where the story of this constellation comes from), and I often see this constellation in the night sky. Orion can be found throughout the world and is on the celestial equator. It is one of the most well known constellations in the sky. Orion is most clearly visible from February to November. This constellation is comprised mainly of 7 stars three make up Orion s belt, two make up his feet, and two make up his shoulders. Alnilam, Mintaka and Alnitak are the three stars in Orion s belt, Betelgeuse is his right shoulder, Bellatrix is his left shoulder, Rigel is his left foot and Saiph is his right foot. The ... Even though he was a very skilled huntsman, he was unable to defeat the scorpion, and he died. When Artemis found out, she was heart broken, and in order to maintain his memory and legacy, she placed him among the stars in a constellation. One day, the great huntsman Orion was out looking for prey in a forest. Out of the corner of his eye, he glimpsed a flash of white. He turned around extremely slowly, while at the same time readying his bow and nocking an arrow. There in front of him was a magnificent white stag. It did not move, but gazed at him, as if daring him to shoot. Suddenly, within his mind, Orion heard a voice. You have the opportunity to kill me, to take me as your own. But be aware that the consequences will be great. You will have the feeling of success as you take my life, but the loss of a life must be repaid in kind. Orion realised the voice was coming from the stag. He had heard before of the magical powers of white stags, but he decided to not heed the words of the majestic creature. With the ongoing changes that are made to diagnosing patients as well as the symptoms they must encounter, it is hard to know exactly what medical abnormalities would fall under this category to be diagnosed with what is known as a mental illness. Do to the various definitions and meanings that fall under mental illnesses I would have to say that I agree and disagree with what Thomas Szasz has written. Szasz has some great points but many that I disagree with. Doctors, as well as, medical experts diagnose individuals with what they are thought to be as mental illnesses. • 7. The Effect Of Solar Power On The Environment There is basic knowledge known about solar power, but do we know as much as we should? The answer is no. Citizens and everyday people living in the United States do not know as much as they should about solar power. Because these people do not know as much as one should, the government should allow more money to be spent on researching and finding improvements to solar power for several reasons. Despite how much knowledge we know about solar power, the US government should fund research for solar power to better the environment. It is important for the government to set aside money for to research solar power because of the improvements that can be made. With this research that could be done, these kinks in solar power now can be ironed out, and make solar power more efficient and better which will eventually in the long run help our environment. The many advantages that solar gives to a person living an everyday life and the benefits to the environment is unbelievable. Although, there are many advantages already associated with solar power having more research done could never hurt to someone who is going to potentially buy solar panels. Solar power right now has several uses and ways the sun can help in everyday life, but with more research solar power can have many more uses and eventually become more efficient and more widely used instead of using the alternative fossil fuels. Despite the fact that fossil fuels do everything for most families and people, it is terrible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

California Compare And Contrast Utah / California Compare and Contrast Utah and California have numerous similarities and differences from post Native American settlement, religious affiliation, to demographic concentrations. Both states are in the western United States but I believe that there are more obvious differences between the states then similarities between them. A majority of lower and mid western US states has seen the exploration efforts of the Spanish, but other then this the settlement efforts of Utah and California have a bigger presence of distinctions. Gurgling and sputtering, I finally spit out the French word violet as if by magic. My first word. As the son of an American dad and a French mom, I bleed red, white, and blue and bleu, blanc, et rouge. Although my first word was in French, I grew up in the United States and learned the French and English languages simultaneously in a bicultural environment. It has helped me to be more mentally flexible and to think divergently, a skill that allows me to more easily abstract and conceptualize ideas. I also receive immense satisfaction from being able to speak directly to people from all walks of life in their own languages. To share the benefits I have gained from the exposure to languages with others, this summer, without any prior computer programming experience, I combined my passion for languages and technology by developing a smartphone application that teaches toddlers simple words and sentence structure in various languages. The application is intuitive enough for young children to effortlessly handle and has modes of use that imitate the way humans naturally learn to speak a language: through listening, repetition, and immediate feedback. My experience with a bilingual and bicultural upbringing has given me an insatiable curiosity for all languages, cultures, histories, and places. It has also equipped me with the necessary skills to function in diverse environments and easily adapt to new situations. In the Back to the Future film series, people truly thought that by this time in the 21st century, 2015, the world would hold some of the greatest technology yet, and humans have created some immensely useful machines, but most people cannot step away from a tiny piece of tech that people call a smartphone. They might be deemed as helpful but also damaging if taken advantage of. Albert Einstein, a German theoretical physicist, once said, I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. People have begun to believe that this day has come upon us. Human s involvement with smartphones has grown significantly, and this has begun a list of negative effects on the human mind. Scientists have studied some of the many effects of the internet and smart phones. Many people have noticed a growing change with cell phones and mental disorders, and this has started to become a problem. The first part in the link between cell phones and mental disorders classifies to all of their growing components, their causes and negative effects, but people have started to find ways to put their phones down and others, and studies have begun the help prevent even further damage. • 12. The Pervasiveness Of Media In Contemporary US Culture Indeed, the pervasiveness of media in its copious forms in contemporary US culture today is undeniable. Almost anywhere one looks, one can find media; a magazine at a doctor s office, a billboard alongside a freeway, a painting at an art gallery, a performance on television or on stage. Media, undeniably, is ubiquitous. However, in the innumerous forms media comes to us in, every one of these forms are created for a purpose; to communicate of an idea or message. But how are students, as well as educators, supposed to interact and interpret media? Auspiciously, just as with any subject of study, one must become literate in its forms and uses. Thus, media literacy is a vital tool set for interacting and interpreting content of any discipline; particularly history education. Certainly, media literacy seeks to teach fluency in the forms of media, how it functions and can influence trends in society. However, media and its messages are not a direct form of communication. Media does not offer a transparent window, as Buckingham writes, only a representation of an idea (Buckingham, 2004. p. .) Further, this representation of an idea or message, as Hoechsmann Poyntz write, always involve(s) a reflection, selection and deflection of reality (Hoechsmann Poyntz, 2012, p. 73). Thus, to achieve fluency with media, the goal of media literacy is to develop personal agency within an individual. Personal agency, as defined by Buckingham, is the ability to be an active ... In a slightly unbalanced relationship, Beat writers often molded their poetics and style after the playing of such jazz music. Jazz writers, such as Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg, upheld their poetic ideals to the techniques of jazz musicians, such as rhythm, improvisation, and call and response. The structure of creative writing underwent a change, as the importance of form equaled that of theme. Swing, the predecessor of bop, was big, sweet, and hot. The performers were big bands, fronted by a charismatic bandleader, yet the success of a piece depended mostly on the unity of the ensemble as a whole, rather than on the showcasing of prodigious ... The playing pattern usually initiates with the theme, then follows with a reed solo, trumpet solo, piano solo, bass or drum solo every second, third, or fourth number. Within a song would sometimes hold trading fours, alternating four bar improvisations between instruments. Usually, the piece would end with a restatement of the theme (Jones 42 43). Additionally, when familiar tunes were included, it was to satirize such antiseptic creations of the white world, and were more often then not turned upon their heads and wrecked for bop motives. Bop musicians rejected the idea of playing solely for an audience; they graduated from the roles of entertainers to the positions of musicians. Their music was not as melodic and hyperactive as swing. Subsequently, bop never became an obsession of popular culture, and remained introspective, for a largely introspective Beat culture. The Beat Generation was a movement which rebelled against the social and literary conformity and conservatism of white, middle class, suburban, post war America. The term Beat holds many origins. One example of the differences is in the first beatitude where Matthew writes, Blessed are the poor in spirit where as Luke recorded Jesus as saying only, Blessed are the poor By annexing in spirit Luke suggests that only the monetarily poor belong in God s kingdom, where Matthew seems to state that material status or social poverty alone are not the standards for faith. This work is complex, with a lot of fiddling work that has been read as lectures a year earlier under the title On synchronicity. The great psychiatrist introduced the concept of synchronicity in 1930, in a speech commemorating his friend Richard Wilhelm. Essay on Ethos, Pathos, Logos Kings Letter to Birmingham Ethos, Pathos amp; Logos in The Letter from Birmingham Jail Some varieties of inspiration come as passionate love while others appeal as injustice as did Martin Luther King in his Letter from Birmingham Jail. Martin Luther King Jr. effectively crafted his counter argument by first directly addressing his audience, the clergymen, and then using logos, pathos, and ethos to refute his opponent s statements and present his own perspective. After stating the general purpose of his letter, Martin Luther King Jr. specifically addressed the clergymen to set up for his logical counterargument. First Martin Luther King effectively makes use of logos throughout his letter. He clarifies all of the reasons for his arguments and supports them ... King demonstrates his ability to inspire his fellow civil rights activists, raise empathy in the hearts of white conservatives, and create compassion in the minds of the eight clergyman to which the Letter is directed.Ethos are present throughout the Letter but there was one specific example that caught my attention. A less convoluted illustration of this concept is embodied in The Crucible s John Proctor; who we all know as the play s non conformist character. Proctor s identity (identity and belonging being intrinsically linked) is defined by his rejection of the goings on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, whilst Ofelia may be an individual, there is no escaping the fact that her individualism is entrenched in (though diametrically opposed to) the belonging established by the group she wishes to rebel against. Consequences, however, need not be always negative. Angela Carter s short story The Company of Wolves explores belonging and consequences of belonging through the reinterpretation of the Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale. In Carter s version, the Red Riding Hood character has agency unparalleled in any other telling of the tale. In the climax and resolution of the short story, the text is obviously heavily influenced by second wave feminism (the text was written in 1979, over a decade since Germaine Greer s groundbreaking The Female Eunuch ). She laughed at him full in the face; she ripped off his shirt for him and flung it into the fire, in the fiery wake of her own discarded clothing. (pg. 5, para. 6) The whole short story is laced with allusions to coming of age and subtle sexual imagery; in this excerpt Carter uses the double entendre of the word meat to create an image of violence (becoming the wolf s meat suggests brutal disembowelment) and sexual objectification (the wolf sees the girl as simply a virgin sex object; a piece of meat for his consumption), to which the girl not only objects, but ...
