Five Forces Analysis For Trader Joe s
Introduction: Trader Joe s is a neighborhood grocery store chain which was founded by Joe Coulombe
in 1967. It started as one store in California in 1967 and has grown to be 414 stores in 38 states as of
July, 2013. As of 1979, It is privately held by German grocer Theo Albrecht, owner of Aldi North.
Consumer Reports ranked Trader Joes the second best supermarket in the US in 2012.
Industry:
Grocery industry is a highly competitive market with thin profit margins. Super markets are dominant
players in the grocery industry. They use grocery offerings to drive traffic to their higher profit margin
retail items. With its operations efficiency, Walmart, the largest grocery retailer has been able to offer
significant price drops. This also forces other grocery stores to drop prices which keeps the profit
margin thin. Even with all the advantages of operational efficiency and economies of scale, Walmart s
share in grocery sales was down at 51% in 2011.
Industry Analysis:
Trader Joe s occupies a niche position in the grocery market by providing natural, organic and eclectic
selection of wines, frozen food, prepared food and groceries at everyday low prices. They have a small
area format with limited products which has put them in the top rank for sales per square feet.
Exhibit A shows Porter s Five forces analysis for Trader Joe s. Competition within the incumbents is
high. Trader Joe s biggest competitor would be Whole foods, nation s largest retailer of organic and

Hate and Love in Romeo and Juliet
Romeo states in Act 1, Here is much to do with hate, but more with. By analyzing the many forms
love takes in the play, explore whether Romeo was right in his contention.
Romeo and Juliet, the tragic play by William Shakespeare, centers around the love story between
Romeo, the young heir of the Montagues, and Juliet, the daughter of the house of Capulet. Because of
an on going feud between the two families, Romeo and Juliet are forced to keep their love a secret,
marry in secret and, due to ill fated consequences; they die together in the tomb of the Capulets.
Romeo and Juliet has to be one of the most famous love stories ever written, however to every good

Friar Lawrence s place in the play is in between these two opposites, as is the nurses. In Act 2, scene 5
after returning from her first mission to Romeo, Juliet s Nurse tells her impatient mistress, I am the
drudge, and toil in your delight . At this point, we are inclined to take the Nurse at her word. When we
first encounter her in Act I, scene 3, the Nurse of Romeo and Juliet appears to be a comic character
given to bawdy humor and innuendo, but this coarse character is softened by her fondness for Juliet.
In Friar Lawrence s case I think when he agrees to marry Romeo and Juliet It is a desperate attempt to
fuse together two opposites to end the skirmish between the two families. County Paris is juxtaposed
with Romeo throughout the play, and by doing so; Shakespeare highlights the extraordinary nature of
Romeo s love for Juliet. Paris is completely ignorant of the romance between Romeo and Juliet, and
so while his own suit for Juliet threatens the lovers plans, he is not a blocking character. Moreover, in
the tomb scene, Paris acquits himself well, displaying a depth of affection for Juliet and earning
Romeo s praise. Juliet on the other and has absolutely no interest in Paris, this is another illustration of
unrequited love. Taking this into consideration I believe that Paris does not only love Juliet out of lust
because in the tomb scene Paris puts his own life on the line to save the one he claims to love. Alas his

Malcom X s Experiences Inspired His Autobiography
Malcom X s Experiences inspired his Autobiography
Considered as one of the greatest and influential in African Americans in history, Malcon Little was
born on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska, and murder on February 21, 1965 in New York by three
Nation of Islam members. Best known as Malcon X, he was also known as El Hajj Malik El Shabazz,
an American Muslim minister and a human rights activist. Malcon X was a fervent advocate the
separation of black and white Americans, and rejected the civil rights movement s emphasis on
integration. He fought for the promotion of black supremacy. However, it is impossible to speak about
Malcom X s life, accomplishments or fights without evoking his relation to racism. Experiences that
Malcolm X had relating to racism shaped the way he thought throughout his life. The experiences
inspired him to be one of the iconic figures against racism, which Africa American experienced before
his assassination in 1965. Malcolm went ahead and collaboratively wrote his autobiography with Alex
Haley that would inspire the African American race with the hope that they would go on fighting for
their rights in the following years.
Right from his childhood, Malcolm X, experienced racism. As a child brought up in Omaha,
Nebraska, Malcolm experienced his father being nearly lynched and his home being burnt down by
the Klansmen. Later, white supremacists killed his father and his mother was committed to a mental
hospital. Despite his father being clearly

The Origins Of The Percussion Family
Examining the Origins of the Percussion Family
To get a clear view of the origins of the percussion family, one should first have to the ability to
classify the plethora of instruments. For the sake of this document we will use the broad classification
of Janissary instruments and non Janissary instruments. The Janissary instruments find their roots in
the Turkish military bands of the Ottoman Empire. The term Janissary refers to the Turkish Yeñi çeri,
or new troops . Sultan Orkhan I, of the Ottoman Empire, created The Janissaries, but his successor,
Murad I, officially established the corps circa 1360 s CE. They were originally an elite corps of troops
made up of the Sultan s loyal slaves. The corps eventually picked up the use of ... Show more content

This is most likely the influence of the Crusades that would have brought Arabic culture, albeit in a
violent way, to Europe.
Timpani, as aforementioned, hold an intrinsically military tradition. Because of its use in the Turkish
armies, the Europe borrowed the instrument in its armies. These influences can be seen in the earliest
uses of timpani. The timpani that were taken from the Arabs were made into an essential element of
prestige for the nobility. During the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries both trumpeters and kettle
drummer were restricted to only those of high rank or nobility. This lead to the creation of an
exclusive guild to train the instrumentalists. This lead to a surplus of players, especially after the last
failed Siege of Vienna in 1683 CE. Due to this surplus, the Classical period, when timpani were used
on a regular basis, began to use timpani in a limited fashion. In combination with the trumpets, the
timpani mostly played rhythmically driving music. This is best observed in Handel s Messiah. During
the Hallelujah Chorus the trumpets and timpani can be easily heard playing the same material. This
pairing is not coincidental, both instruments had a high amount of military background during the time
of Handel. So, the pairing would have observed that military tradition, but this military tradition
followed the Eastern custom of pairing trumpet with timpani. It is important to note that this trend
among the Classical composers to use timpani

Theory X, Theory Y
Theory X, Theory Y by Douglas McGregor is a motivation theory. Douglas McGregor is a social
psychologist and applied two sets of assumptions to the organizational structure called Theory X and
Theory Y. His theory is based on managerial views of human beings. In his book, The Human Side of
Enterprise, he outlined a new role for managers. He stated that managers should assist subordinates in
reaching their full potential, rather than commanding and controlling. Theory X is negative and
Theory Y can be stated as the opposite, positive. Douglas concluded that managers shaped their
behavior towards workers based on either the X or Y views.
Theory X presumes that average employees dislike work, are lazy, dislike responsibility, and must be
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Theory X and Y call for managers to examine their assumptions about human nature and see how
these models lead to managerial practices. These assumptions will be reflected in management
attitudes toward employees, the kind and amount of participation they allow, and the outcomes they
expect. The strength of McGregor s theory is its significance. When McGregor formulated his theory,
companies competed on their ability to mass produce goods. Today, however, paying attention to the
human aspect is a requirement if any organization. Without a powerfully motivated, highly skilled,
self reliant human resource, organizations do not stand a chance to survive, much less compete.
McGregor s theory provides the solution to problems related to the human aspect of an organization.
Some of the weaknesses in McGregor s Theory X and Theory Y theory are that there is only so much
money that can be offered as motivation and only so much control that can be applied. People change
and so do motivators. McGregor states that a satisfied need no longer motivates. This theory has no
evidence to support Theory X or Theory Y. There s no validity in the assumption that managers who
modify their actions or behaviors will lead to more motivated workers (textbook citation p177). It is
part of the manager s job to exercise control and influence, and there are situations in which this

Compare And Contrast The Landlady And Lamb To The Slaughter
In stories, The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe, The Landlady and Lamb to the Slaughter both by
Roald Dahl, ideas of guilt and sanity prevail. In these short stories, the lack of guilt and insanity create
a mental state which not only allows them to commit their crimes but also to do so without remorse.
Poe uses close description and large amounts of figurative language to bring through the ideas of trust,
insanity, lack of guilt and perfect crimes . In contrast, Roald Dahl uses other figurative language
techniques such as juxtaposition and foreshadowing.
In all three horror stories Roald Dahl and Poe explore the lack of guilt. There are direct references to

Mending Wall Essay
In Robert Frost s timeless piece, Mending Wall, he creates a tranquil mood that has a small climatic
bump between to neighbors who come together to mend their stone fence. He throughout the poem he
uses metaphors, symbolism, similes, as well as other literary elements to convey the importance of the
wall. Without the use of literary elements his poem wouldn t have the same effect on the reader, it
would change the whole poem and the way it s perceived. The theme of the poem is to respect others
choices or decisions.
Frost uses several metaphors within the whole poem to further the reader s visual picture of the
literature pieces. When they collect rocks to mend the wall he says some are loves and some so nearly

As mentioned in the last poem the wall is an ongoing metaphor for their relationship. In lines 1 and 35
frost repeats the phrase Something there is that doesn t love a wall . This represents the Narrator s side
of the disagreement. He no longer want the separating him, from his neighbor, he wants to befriend
him. Several times he points how there is an entity or force that doesn t want the wall up. And that
maybe it s for the best if it isn t dividing them. That sends the frozen ground swell under it, And spills
the upper boulders in the sun; And makes gaps even two can pass abreast. (2 4). He suggests that
nature takes course in destroying the wall so they can meet. And even alter he suggests that maybe its
elves, That wants it down. I could say Elves to him But it s not elves exactly (36/37). In both lines 27
and 45 the neighbor states that Good fences make good neighbours. On the other side of the spectrum,
this is the neighbor s rebuttal as to why the fence should remain. The fence is to maintain their
nonexistent relationship. Without having the neighbors disagree on the fence the story would be

The Modern Era
Prestigious artists in the modern era have created highly abstract and non representational work. The
average everyday person who looks at Kandinsky, Picasso, or Duchamp may genuinely believe that
they can produce better work without any art experience. But from their lack of art history they will
not be able to produce work that has deep meaning like Picasso, or psychoanalysis of color theory like
Kandinsky.
Firstly, Kandinsky s Composition VII, initially seems messy, unorganized, or even accidental. But the
colors are not random; each color has a purpose behind it. He analyses color to the point where he
made a Basic Color Theory analysis.
For example, the yellow represents joy, happiness, satisfaction. Kandinsky says, yellow is warm,
cheeky and exciting. In life yellow is seen in nature and fast food industries. The yellow sun is
commonly preferred over a dark black sky at night; Vitamin D from the sun is necessary as it increases
biologic hormones, hence, makes a person more positive and joyous. Similarly, the McDonald s logo
of the Golden Arches is bright yellow. This color was chosen because it evokes a positive emotion.
Therefore, even though Composition VII looks like a random mess that a child could do there is
significant breakdown behind the color palette.
Understandably, kids like bright colors and various sounds. In 1923, Composition VIII by Kandinsky
presents another theory; that color and line are reflective of sound/music. The

The Harmful Effects Of Animal Testing On Animals
It is beyond my understanding how that cute dog in the window of that store could be one of the 115
million animals that are tested on every year in the U.S. Behind those cute puppy eyes may be a whole
world of pain. Animal testing can be using anything on animals from lipstick to medicine to dangerous
chemicals. Testing has been going on as early as 1832 (according to this picture on animal

are getting tossed into testing, unaware of what is happening to them without choice. Testing may not

Ars Poetica By Macleish Essay
The poem Ars Poetica by Archibald MacLeish asks and then answers the question: What makes a
poem, a poem. As the poem progresses many traits are described, but in metaphor and simile. A poem
should be wordless as the flight of birds. Or A poem must be motionless in time as the moon climbs.
From these lines and other lines in the poem, the answer to what makes a poem, a poem can be found.
The first description given of a poem is A poem should be palpable and mute as a globed fruit. The
fruit, as a poem should be, palpable. We can hold it and see it. But as a globed fruit, you can hold it,

A poem should be able to speak truths, but they shouldn t be evident. One shouldn t look at a poem
and be able to only find a single truth, many truths could apply to any poem, and it is up to the reader
to find out what that poem means to them. Next in the poem is what a poem should be for love. The
leaning grasses and two lights above the sea The answer to what that means is not explicitly said in the
poem, and is up to the readers perspective. The imagery created by the line, gives an idea of what a
poem for love should be. It should evoke thought and in a way, evoke emotions, just as emotions are
evoked by the imagery of The leaning grasses and two lights above the sea . Lastly, to close the poem,
MacLeish says A poem should not mean but be. This line reflects what the poem has said since the
beginning. A poem should not explicitly say what it means and have one correct answer as to what the
poem means. The poem is just words that evoke an image or an opinion in the readers mind, and the
reader is the one who finds meaning. A poems job is not to have a direct meaning that you can find by
reading through, a poem is meant to just be what it means and give the reader imagery to find that

he is regularly seen dangling from the roof, climbing trees, and of course, his ritual of scaling the

The Importance Of Chlorinating Water For The Purpose...
Introduction:
The process of chlorinating water for the purpose purifying it, has only been around for just over a
hundred years. Although the process has been seen to have a great effect, in reducing the amount of
disease caught from drinking water (such as typhoid and cholera), it s been a heated debate for years.
The first case of water being disinfected on a mass scale, was done by a man named John L. Leal. Leal
was a physician by profession, but was thought by many to be a bit of a mad man at the time, because
of his idea that chlorine had the properties to disinfect water for drinking. It was thought at the time,
that if chlorine is poisonous when in a gaseous state, then what s to say that it s not poisonous when it
s added to water (creating calcium hydrochloride), which it was (reference 1).Leal spent years of his
life observing the effects were when very small amounts of chloride of lime was added to bacteria
filled water. He observed in more cases than not that the chlorine of lime in the water, ended up killing
almost all of the bacteria while leaving it at a similar PH level of water. During the year of 1908, soon
after Leal was given a job at the Jersey City Water Supply, and with the help of his friend George
Warren Fuller (an engineer). In complete secrecy they installed a chloride of lime feed facility at the
Boon Reservoir, which was the main reservoir for Jersey City (reference 1). Three months after he
committed this daring act, he was called to court

Essay on The Perverse in the Short Stories of Edgar Allan...
Edgar Allan Poe is perhaps the best known American Romantic who worked in the Gothic mode. His
stories explore the darker side of the Romantic imagination, dealing with the grotesque, the
supernatural, and the horrifying. He defined the form of the American short story. As one might
expect, Poe himself eschewed conventional morality, which he believed stems from man s attempts to
dictate the purposes of God. Poe saw God more as process than purpose. He believed that moralists
derive their beliefs, and thus, the resultant behavioral patterns, from a priori knowledge. In Eureka, we
find that Poe shunned such artifices of mind, systems which, he professed, have no basis in reality. Yet
Poe employed in his writing the diction of the moral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Menageries are exhibits of animals, especially wild animals, in enclosures. During the ancient times,
explorers, aristocrats and noblemen showcase their power, wealth and expeditions through

The Effects Of Psychological Techniques On Innocent...
FALSE CONFESSIONS The majority of people find it hard to believe that an individual who is
innocent would confess to a serious crime that they did not commit. However, empirical data has now
revealed that many innocent defendants have been convicted on the basis of their false confessions
(White, 2003). The following section will analyze false confessions and how they happen. This
section will examine the characteristics of a defendant that may alter a confession, and then go on to
looking at the circumstances of the interrogation.
In the majority of false confession cases, police did not extract the confession by employing torture
techniques. However, the effects of psychological techniques on innocent defendants may have been
underestimated in the past. There are many contributing factors that lead to the admission of false
confessions. The system must consider these factors when determining if a confession is legitimate.
Mental health is one of the major factors one must consider when looking at a confession. Mentally
handicapped defendants are far more susceptible to respond to suggestive police interrogations with
false confessions (White, 2003). To provide an adequate defense, a lawyer should access a defendant s
IQ and determine weather there is a possibility that the defendant may have a mental disability.
Next, it is important to examine the circumstances of the police interrogation. When a defendant
confesses, it may be due to the police interrogation

Paradise Lost And Antigone Comparison
To educate a man in mind and not in morals is to educate a menace to society. (Roosevelt). Since the
beginning of time societies have existed, thriving among mankind. Societies dictate norms and
regulations for the people living within them by establishing a status quo. Since the status quo exists, a
large majority of people alter their actions and words they do and say to fit the societal norm, the
status quo in order to seem normal . As common as a status quo is to societies, so is the reality of a
rebel: someone who goes against the status quo, such as Antigone. Societies also have people who
overly conform, in turn suffering negative consequences, such as Eve. If a comparison of both works
(Antigone and Paradise Lost) are taken, it will remain obvious that Antigone materializes as a
stronger, more self independent character who is against the societal norms, whereas Eve lacks enough
inner strength and willpower to avoid conforming to the origin of the negativity of social norms. In
general, society is not an evil device to have a part in, rather, it is completely normal. If an individual
lives in a community, neighborhood, city, town, village, etc., they belong in a society. Societies
provide chaos management ; they keep people supposedly in line and provide rules. Rules are not
wicked, but sometimes certain rules may go against the morals of a person, making the rules a
negative aspect of society. This transforms the relationship of an individual existing in

Sigma And The Cost Of Quality
Introduction
Six Sigma and the Cost of Quality to a manufacturing company is a systematic approach that increases
profits and improves customer satisfaction rates by eliminating the root cause for defects or errors in
all processes, by creating new and more effective processes. To the health care company, The Cost of
Quality may look and feel slightly different, yet in many ways both are the same. Both companies may
operate and produce different products, and operate in two different market segments, both are
concerned with delivering customer driven quality products or services in the most cost effective
manner. Therefore, if we use a comparative analysis and the Six Sigma standard problem solving
methodologies and apply it to the Costs of Quality , Six Sigma Project Selection and the role of The
Green Belt we know that each looks to eliminate the root cause of defects and poor customer
satisfaction scores. We will discuss these similarities and the differences in manufacturing and in
health care and the importance of determining who the Voice of the Customer (VOC) is, to responding
quickly to any sudden market change or in customer driven demand changes and for each current
customer, lost customer, or any future customers.
Similarities in The Cost of Quality
The cost of quality in a manufacturing company versus a health care company is identifying the areas
of similarities and differences in their use of a cumulative cost of a quality measurement system.

Sam is Dead is written by James and Christopher Collier. The authors introduce many strong
characters that include Sam, Tim, Life, and Susannah Meeker and takes place during the American
Revolutionary War. The authors, Collier and Collier, try to prove that war does not help by adding the
theme inside of a realistic plot that involves family and death, something everyone has or has gone

death occur within their family. War can obviously get someone killed and they cannot be brought

after Mr.Meeker s death, Susannah, Tim and Sam s mother, becomes an alcoholic and Tim becomes
more mature and responsible. This changed the Meeker s way of how they act and the way they
process information. It makes them take sides and blame others for actions they cannot control. Bah
patriotism. Your patriotism has got my husband in prison and one of my children out there in the rain

Report on the book The Goal by Eliyahu Goldratt and Jeff Cox
I really enjoyed this book. It was easy to read and easy to comprehend. The examples used in the book
make the main ideas of the book memorable and easy to understand. I loved how the authors
described the thinking process of the main character, Alex, in a day to day every person s situations.
To me the main value of this book is that its main concepts are applicable to every business, not just
manufacturing facilities. I work in marketing and I was surprised to gain knowledge that can help me
in my job, specifically business customer relationships. The Goal gave me a better understanding of
how market operates in general. Below I described the summary of the book.

Jonah explains to him that the first thing he has to do is to identify dependent events ( events in which
the output of one event influences the input to another event ) and statistical fluctuations ( common
cause variations in output quantity or quality ). Alex doesn t understand what Jonah is talking about
and how these two terms can be the problem if his plant, especially taking into consideration that the
calculated efficiency of his plant is high. He doesn t believe that these are the reason for late orders.
The next day after returning home, Alex is taking his son and a class of Boy Scouts out on a hiking
expedition. Here comes my favorite part of the book. One of the boys, Herbie, becomes a constraint
because he slows down the whole group. While trying to manage the hiking and the boys Alex realizes
that different average walking speed of the boys doesn t compensate for itself. He tries to figure out
why the speed differentiations accumulate and the group is continuously spreading out farther and
farther, even when Herbie is putting in extra effort not to lag behind the group. Alex tries to apply two
of the principles of the theory of constraints into the hiking trip and then he applies it as a comparison
model for his manufacturing cycle. Now Alex sees clearly that the professor was right that in a chain
of dependent processes, statistical

Another great influence that has provided my life with a lot of ease and that is the invention or the use
of computers for trains. An electronic train time table provides me with quick easy to read access for
when and where trains are coming and going when I go out with family or friends to different parts of
England. The major issue with these is there accuracy they can be very inaccurate at times, along with
them not working. This result in mass panic as there is not a reliable back up system to go with this if
for some reason it fails. Impact On Friends and Family TV provides inspiration to my brother who
studies music this is due to the subscription service (Sky) offering TV channels like sky arts and other
media based services. This provides him with help in his studies by being able to study certain
musicians as well as the channels providing lessons and support for musicians out there. It also
provides help for him to unwind for example it gives him access to entertainment channels where he
can watch TV shows like Friends . Also TV provides my Mum access to many channels which were

Introduction This is an analysis memorandum proposing the use of Microsoft Access databases within
our Security Division s infrastructure. Many security managers are relying heavily on the use of
Microsoft Excel spreadsheets in order to keep track of their personnel, security violations, inspection
programs and training. While spreadsheets are effective means for complex calculations they are also
limited in that they basically fall short in showing the relational qualities of security data in
relationship to particular fields and queries. Not only do they fall short in ... Show more content on

With Microsoft Access you can create a query which links tables and their relationships. This allows
for better analysis of your data, thus making Microsoft Access a powerful tool in which to analyze
critical security data. Not only can you analyze critical security data you can perform simple
calculations in queries. For example, you can calculate when an individual s next personnel security
reinvestigation is due. When you type a date into a generated form or table, you can add a column to a
query which will automatically calculate the next periodic reinvestigation date. You can later create a
form which includes the query s calculated column. After you type in a date, the adjusted date appears
automatically. With forms, you can ease the input of data into your tables. You can set the values of
each field or column, such as text, number, date, yes or no, hyperlink, as well as other options. You
can also create pull down menus in which the user can choose an input rather than type one. This
assists the database operator by giving quick choices to fields like States and Countries. Forms also
comes with input masks, which allow for the easy input of fields like dates, phone number, social
security numbers, zip codes and the like. The form will not accept any errors input. You can also
create icon driven forms. In other words, you can click icons on your form to

The Role Of Uniform Law In The United States
Introduction
Almost seventy years ago Professor Hessel Yntema wrote that a large and diverse country needs a
complex governmental structure that balances national interests and local liberties. The resulting
complexity is accentuated by history. The United States traces its roots to geographically dispersed
communities of migrants from different countries. They brought with them different cultural baggage.
Followed by rapid industrialization, this introduced new problems and worsened old ones. Industrial
accidents, complex corporate structures, labour unions and urbanization have induced increasingly
detailed regulation. Yet, despite this complexity and diversity, Professor Yntema suggests that there is
a fundamental unity of law in the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Federalisation of law by Constitutional Decisions of the US Supreme Court
Supreme Court decisions instantly bring legal unification. The Court is best at prohibiting
contradictory legislation, but also does well on prescribing positive legislation. Where the Court does
prescribe these specific rules, typically these norms overwhelm any state rules. For example, on
January 21, 1973, first trimester abortion was legal in some states and illegal in others. On January 22,
1973, when the Supreme Court decided the case of Roe v Wade, 410 U.S. 113 (1973), it became legal
in all states.
While this approach has the upside of immediate applicability, it also has drawbacks. When
constitutionalizing an issue you largely eliminate legislative solutions. These legislative solutions can
be political compromises. They can change as political temperaments change. They can make clear
rules that are easy to apply, but may not be that easy to justify. Constitutional solutions are, by the
nature of American constitutional decision making, judge made solutions, normally no clear rules.
They invite litigation to change them or just to determine what they mean, for there is no other way to
obtain an authoritative interpretation. Other examples of unifying law through the US Supreme Court
are the Brady materials and the Miranda

Initial Ph Test Lab Report
Upon completion of each spot test, as well as initial pH tests, the results were then recorded. It was
known that the 10 solutions consisted of 1 M hydrochloric acid, 1 M nitric acid, 3 M acetic acid, 1 M
sodium hydroxide, 0.1 M silver nitrate, 0.1 M sodium chloride, 0.1 M zinc chloride, 0.1 M aluminum
nitrate, 3 M ammonium hydroxide and 0.1 M lead nitrate, however their corresponding number was
unknown. The first identified unknown was 98, acetic acid, given its highly prevalent scent, in
addition to it not forming a precipitate with any substance due to the solubility rules. Given that two
bases were present on the initial pH test, one being strong (93) and one being weak (91), it was then
concluded that they were the strong base NaOH and the weak base NH4OH, respectively. Once
identified, the precipitates formed by these two bases were then taken into account. Given that both
bases reacted with the weak acid, 99, yet it drastically different manners (white and copper), it was
then researched to see what would react with these bases to form a copper colored precipitate,
resulting in AgNO3. Given that this was only one reaction, 99 as AgNO3 was not a fully supported
result yet; further reactions would have to be considered. Next, the chemical reactions were written

compounds react differently when mixed with another substance, the precipitate, pH, and chemical

conducted in this experiment are especially useful in determining which chemical is which, if it is

  • 3. Hate and Love in Romeo and Juliet Romeo states in Act 1, Here is much to do with hate, but more with. By analyzing the many forms love takes in the play, explore whether Romeo was right in his contention. Romeo and Juliet, the tragic play by William Shakespeare, centers around the love story between Romeo, the young heir of the Montagues, and Juliet, the daughter of the house of Capulet. Because of an on going feud between the two families, Romeo and Juliet are forced to keep their love a secret, marry in secret and, due to ill fated consequences; they die together in the tomb of the Capulets. Romeo and Juliet has to be one of the most famous love stories ever written, however to every good thing there is in life, there is a bad, an opposite or an inverse. In our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Friar Lawrence s place in the play is in between these two opposites, as is the nurses. In Act 2, scene 5 after returning from her first mission to Romeo, Juliet s Nurse tells her impatient mistress, I am the drudge, and toil in your delight . At this point, we are inclined to take the Nurse at her word. When we first encounter her in Act I, scene 3, the Nurse of Romeo and Juliet appears to be a comic character given to bawdy humor and innuendo, but this coarse character is softened by her fondness for Juliet. In Friar Lawrence s case I think when he agrees to marry Romeo and Juliet It is a desperate attempt to fuse together two opposites to end the skirmish between the two families. County Paris is juxtaposed with Romeo throughout the play, and by doing so; Shakespeare highlights the extraordinary nature of Romeo s love for Juliet. Paris is completely ignorant of the romance between Romeo and Juliet, and so while his own suit for Juliet threatens the lovers plans, he is not a blocking character. Moreover, in the tomb scene, Paris acquits himself well, displaying a depth of affection for Juliet and earning Romeo s praise. Juliet on the other and has absolutely no interest in Paris, this is another illustration of unrequited love. Taking this into consideration I believe that Paris does not only love Juliet out of lust because in the tomb scene Paris puts his own life on the line to save the one he claims to love. Alas his ... Best known as Malcon X, he was also known as El Hajj Malik El Shabazz, an American Muslim minister and a human rights activist. Malcon X was a fervent advocate the separation of black and white Americans, and rejected the civil rights movement s emphasis on integration. He fought for the promotion of black supremacy. However, it is impossible to speak about Malcom X s life, accomplishments or fights without evoking his relation to racism. Experiences that Malcolm X had relating to racism shaped the way he thought throughout his life. The experiences inspired him to be one of the iconic figures against racism, which Africa American experienced before his assassination in 1965. For the sake of this document we will use the broad classification of Janissary instruments and non Janissary instruments. The Janissary instruments find their roots in the Turkish military bands of the Ottoman Empire. The term Janissary refers to the Turkish Yeñi çeri, or new troops . Sultan Orkhan I, of the Ottoman Empire, created The Janissaries, but his successor, Murad I, officially established the corps circa 1360 s CE. This is most likely the influence of the Crusades that would have brought Arabic culture, albeit in a violent way, to Europe. Timpani, as aforementioned, hold an intrinsically military tradition. Because of its use in the Turkish armies, the Europe borrowed the instrument in its armies. These influences can be seen in the earliest uses of timpani. The timpani that were taken from the Arabs were made into an essential element of prestige for the nobility. During the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries both trumpeters and kettle drummer were restricted to only those of high rank or nobility. This lead to the creation of an exclusive guild to train the instrumentalists. This lead to a surplus of players, especially after the last failed Siege of Vienna in 1683 CE. Due to this surplus, the Classical period, when timpani were used on a regular basis, began to use timpani in a limited fashion. In combination with the trumpets, the timpani mostly played rhythmically driving music. This is best observed in Handel s Messiah. During the Hallelujah Chorus the trumpets and timpani can be easily heard playing the same material. This pairing is not coincidental, both instruments had a high amount of military background during the time of Handel. So, the pairing would have observed that military tradition, but this military tradition followed the Eastern custom of pairing trumpet with timpani. It is important to note that this trend among the Classical composers to use timpani ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Theory X, Theory Y Theory X, Theory Y by Douglas McGregor is a motivation theory. Douglas McGregor is a social psychologist and applied two sets of assumptions to the organizational structure called Theory X and Theory Y. His theory is based on managerial views of human beings. In his book, The Human Side of Enterprise, he outlined a new role for managers. He stated that managers should assist subordinates in reaching their full potential, rather than commanding and controlling. Theory X is negative and Theory Y can be stated as the opposite, positive. Douglas concluded that managers shaped their behavior towards workers based on either the X or Y views. Theory X presumes that average employees dislike work, are lazy, dislike responsibility, and must be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Theory X and Y call for managers to examine their assumptions about human nature and see how these models lead to managerial practices. These assumptions will be reflected in management attitudes toward employees, the kind and amount of participation they allow, and the outcomes they expect. The strength of McGregor s theory is its significance. When McGregor formulated his theory, companies competed on their ability to mass produce goods. Today, however, paying attention to the human aspect is a requirement if any organization. Without a powerfully motivated, highly skilled, self reliant human resource, organizations do not stand a chance to survive, much less compete. McGregor s theory provides the solution to problems related to the human aspect of an organization. Some of the weaknesses in McGregor s Theory X and Theory Y theory are that there is only so much money that can be offered as motivation and only so much control that can be applied. People change and so do motivators. McGregor states that a satisfied need no longer motivates. This theory has no evidence to support Theory X or Theory Y. There s no validity in the assumption that managers who modify their actions or behaviors will lead to more motivated workers (textbook citation p177). It is part of the manager s job to exercise control and influence, and there are situations in which this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Modern Era Prestigious artists in the modern era have created highly abstract and non representational work. The average everyday person who looks at Kandinsky, Picasso, or Duchamp may genuinely believe that they can produce better work without any art experience. But from their lack of art history they will not be able to produce work that has deep meaning like Picasso, or psychoanalysis of color theory like Kandinsky. Firstly, Kandinsky s Composition VII, initially seems messy, unorganized, or even accidental. But the colors are not random; each color has a purpose behind it. He analyses color to the point where he made a Basic Color Theory analysis. For example, the yellow represents joy, happiness, satisfaction. Kandinsky says, yellow is warm, cheeky and exciting. In life yellow is seen in nature and fast food industries. The yellow sun is commonly preferred over a dark black sky at night; Vitamin D from the sun is necessary as it increases biologic hormones, hence, makes a person more positive and joyous. Similarly, the McDonald s logo of the Golden Arches is bright yellow. This color was chosen because it evokes a positive emotion. Therefore, even though Composition VII looks like a random mess that a child could do there is significant breakdown behind the color palette. Understandably, kids like bright colors and various sounds. In 1923, Composition VIII by Kandinsky presents another theory; that color and line are reflective of sound/music. The ... • 14. The Importance Of Chlorinating Water For The Purpose... Introduction: The process of chlorinating water for the purpose purifying it, has only been around for just over a hundred years. Although the process has been seen to have a great effect, in reducing the amount of disease caught from drinking water (such as typhoid and cholera), it s been a heated debate for years. The first case of water being disinfected on a mass scale, was done by a man named John L. Leal. Leal was a physician by profession, but was thought by many to be a bit of a mad man at the time, because of his idea that chlorine had the properties to disinfect water for drinking. It was thought at the time, that if chlorine is poisonous when in a gaseous state, then what s to say that it s not poisonous when it s added to water (creating calcium hydrochloride), which it was (reference 1).Leal spent years of his life observing the effects were when very small amounts of chloride of lime was added to bacteria filled water. He observed in more cases than not that the chlorine of lime in the water, ended up killing almost all of the bacteria while leaving it at a similar PH level of water. During the year of 1908, soon after Leal was given a job at the Jersey City Water Supply, and with the help of his friend George Warren Fuller (an engineer). In complete secrecy they installed a chloride of lime feed facility at the Boon Reservoir, which was the main reservoir for Jersey City (reference 1). His stories explore the darker side of the Romantic imagination, dealing with the grotesque, the supernatural, and the horrifying. He defined the form of the American short story. As one might expect, Poe himself eschewed conventional morality, which he believed stems from man s attempts to dictate the purposes of God. Poe saw God more as process than purpose. He believed that moralists derive their beliefs, and thus, the resultant behavioral patterns, from a priori knowledge. In Eureka, we find that Poe shunned such artifices of mind, systems which, he professed, have no basis in reality. Yet Poe employed in his writing the diction of the moral ... FALSE CONFESSIONS The majority of people find it hard to believe that an individual who is innocent would confess to a serious crime that they did not commit. However, empirical data has now revealed that many innocent defendants have been convicted on the basis of their false confessions (White, 2003). The following section will analyze false confessions and how they happen. This section will examine the characteristics of a defendant that may alter a confession, and then go on to looking at the circumstances of the interrogation. In the majority of false confession cases, police did not extract the confession by employing torture techniques. However, the effects of psychological techniques on innocent defendants may have been underestimated in the past. There are many contributing factors that lead to the admission of false confessions. The system must consider these factors when determining if a confession is legitimate. Mental health is one of the major factors one must consider when looking at a confession. Mentally handicapped defendants are far more susceptible to respond to suggestive police interrogations with false confessions (White, 2003). • 19. Paradise Lost And Antigone Comparison To educate a man in mind and not in morals is to educate a menace to society. (Roosevelt). Since the beginning of time societies have existed, thriving among mankind. Societies dictate norms and regulations for the people living within them by establishing a status quo. Since the status quo exists, a large majority of people alter their actions and words they do and say to fit the societal norm, the status quo in order to seem normal . As common as a status quo is to societies, so is the reality of a rebel: someone who goes against the status quo, such as Antigone. Societies also have people who overly conform, in turn suffering negative consequences, such as Eve. If a comparison of both works (Antigone and Paradise Lost) are taken, it will remain obvious that Antigone materializes as a stronger, more self independent character who is against the societal norms, whereas Eve lacks enough inner strength and willpower to avoid conforming to the origin of the negativity of social norms. In general, society is not an evil device to have a part in, rather, it is completely normal. If an individual lives in a community, neighborhood, city, town, village, etc., they belong in a society. Societies provide chaos management ; they keep people supposedly in line and provide rules. It was easy to read and easy to comprehend. The examples used in the book make the main ideas of the book memorable and easy to understand. I loved how the authors described the thinking process of the main character, Alex, in a day to day every person s situations. To me the main value of this book is that its main concepts are applicable to every business, not just manufacturing facilities. I work in marketing and I was surprised to gain knowledge that can help me in my job, specifically business customer relationships. The Goal gave me a better understanding of how market operates in general. Below I described the summary of the book. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jonah explains to him that the first thing he has to do is to identify dependent events ( events in which the output of one event influences the input to another event ) and statistical fluctuations ( common cause variations in output quantity or quality ). Alex doesn t understand what Jonah is talking about and how these two terms can be the problem if his plant, especially taking into consideration that the calculated efficiency of his plant is high. He doesn t believe that these are the reason for late orders. The next day after returning home, Alex is taking his son and a class of Boy Scouts out on a hiking expedition. Here comes my favorite part of the book. One of the boys, Herbie, becomes a constraint because he slows down the whole group. While trying to manage the hiking and the boys Alex realizes that different average walking speed of the boys doesn t compensate for itself. He tries to figure out why the speed differentiations accumulate and the group is continuously spreading out farther and farther, even when Herbie is putting in extra effort not to lag behind the group. Alex tries to apply two of the principles of the theory of constraints into the hiking trip and then he applies it as a comparison model for his manufacturing cycle. Now Alex sees clearly that the professor was right that in a chain of dependent processes, statistical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Memorandum Running head: Analysis Memorandum Analysis Memorandum Steven Aran University of Phoenix EDTC 550 Information Technology Janet Luch (FAC) 11/21/2004 Introduction This is an analysis memorandum proposing the use of Microsoft Access databases within our Security Division s infrastructure. Many security managers are relying heavily on the use of Microsoft Excel spreadsheets in order to keep track of their personnel, security violations, inspection programs and training. While spreadsheets are effective means for complex calculations they are also limited in that they basically fall short in showing the relational qualities of security data in relationship to particular fields and queries. Not only do they fall short in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With Microsoft Access you can create a query which links tables and their relationships. This allows for better analysis of your data, thus making Microsoft Access a powerful tool in which to analyze critical security data. Not only can you analyze critical security data you can perform simple calculations in queries. For example, you can calculate when an individual s next personnel security reinvestigation is due. When you type a date into a generated form or table, you can add a column to a query which will automatically calculate the next periodic reinvestigation date. You can later create a form which includes the query s calculated column. After you type in a date, the adjusted date appears automatically. With forms, you can ease the input of data into your tables. You can set the values of each field or column, such as text, number, date, yes or no, hyperlink, as well as other options. You can also create pull down menus in which the user can choose an input rather than type one. This assists the database operator by giving quick choices to fields like States and Countries. Forms also comes with input masks, which allow for the easy input of fields like dates, phone number, social security numbers, zip codes and the like. The form will not accept any errors input. You can also create icon driven forms. In other words, you can click icons on your form to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. The Role Of Uniform Law In The United States Introduction Almost seventy years ago Professor Hessel Yntema wrote that a large and diverse country needs a complex governmental structure that balances national interests and local liberties. The resulting complexity is accentuated by history. The United States traces its roots to geographically dispersed communities of migrants from different countries. They brought with them different cultural baggage. Followed by rapid industrialization, this introduced new problems and worsened old ones. Industrial accidents, complex corporate structures, labour unions and urbanization have induced increasingly detailed regulation. Yet, despite this complexity and diversity, Professor Yntema suggests that there is a fundamental unity of law in the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Federalisation of law by Constitutional Decisions of the US Supreme Court Supreme Court decisions instantly bring legal unification. The Court is best at prohibiting contradictory legislation, but also does well on prescribing positive legislation. Where the Court does prescribe these specific rules, typically these norms overwhelm any state rules. For example, on January 21, 1973, first trimester abortion was legal in some states and illegal in others. On January 22, 1973, when the Supreme Court decided the case of Roe v Wade, 410 U.S. 113 (1973), it became legal in all states. While this approach has the upside of immediate applicability, it also has drawbacks. When constitutionalizing an issue you largely eliminate legislative solutions. These legislative solutions can be political compromises. They can change as political temperaments change. They can make clear rules that are easy to apply, but may not be that easy to justify. Constitutional solutions are, by the nature of American constitutional decision making, judge made solutions, normally no clear rules. They invite litigation to change them or just to determine what they mean, for there is no other way to obtain an authoritative interpretation. Other examples of unifying law through the US Supreme Court are the Brady materials and the Miranda ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was known that the 10 solutions consisted of 1 M hydrochloric acid, 1 M nitric acid, 3 M acetic acid, 1 M sodium hydroxide, 0.1 M silver nitrate, 0.1 M sodium chloride, 0.1 M zinc chloride, 0.1 M aluminum nitrate, 3 M ammonium hydroxide and 0.1 M lead nitrate, however their corresponding number was unknown. The first identified unknown was 98, acetic acid, given its highly prevalent scent, in addition to it not forming a precipitate with any substance due to the solubility rules. Given that two bases were present on the initial pH test, one being strong (93) and one being weak (91), it was then concluded that they were the strong base NaOH and the weak base NH4OH, respectively. Once identified, the precipitates formed by these two bases were then taken into account. Given that both bases reacted with the weak acid, 99, yet it drastically different manners (white and copper), it was then researched to see what would react with these bases to form a copper colored precipitate, resulting in AgNO3. Given that this was only one reaction, 99 as AgNO3 was not a fully supported result yet; further reactions would have to be considered. Next, the chemical reactions were written out to determine ...
