Organizational Behaviour (Busi 2733 X2)
March 5th, 2015
Organizational Behavior is a field of study devoted to understanding, explaining, and ultimately
improving the attitudes and behaviours of individuals and groups in organizations (Colquitt,
LePine, Wesson, 2013, p. 7). One way in which we can understand an individual s behaviour in an
organization is by researching why workers may feel alienated on the job. Kai Erickson, an
American sociologist who studied workers in the workplace, once said Alienation, then, is

287). In other words, the organization in which a worker belongs leaves them feeling worthless,
insecure, useless and empty .It may even leave them feeling aggravated and inadequate of
actually making a difference in the product that they are making. Erickson explained why this
happens by stating For one thing, people can be said to be alienated when they lose contact with
the product of their own labour (Erickson, 1986, p. 2). In Fact ,these feelings may become
apparent when workers are given tedious tasks to perform with no rewards or consideration to how
they feel. For example, the following excerpt relates the personal experience of Xu Lizhi an
employee of Foxann Company that produces I phones in China:
Even the machine is nodding off ,Sealed workshops store diseased iron ,Wages concealed
behind curtains , Like the love that young workers bury at the bottom of their hearts ,With no
time for expression, emotion crumbles into dust they have stomachs forged of iron Full of thick
acid, sulphuric and nitric Industry captures their tears before they have the chance to fall Time
flows by, their heads lost in fog Output weighs down their age, pain works overtime day and
night In their lives, dizziness before their time is latent The jig forces the skin to peel And while
it s at it, plates on a layer of aluminum alloy Some still endure, while others are taken by illness I
am dozing between them, guarding The last graveyard of our youth. (Lizhi, 2015)

The Thin Red Line Movie Essay
An Examination of War Through Nature
Films such as, The English Patient, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler s List, Gettysburg and
Stalingrad, prove that the nineteen nineties were a boom time for American war movies.
Terrence Mallick s The Thin Red Line is different from these films because of its focus on
nature. All of Mallick s films concentrate on the link between nature and origin, Mallick explores
this relationship by having his characters audibly ask questions of origin such as Where did we
come from? and Why are we this way? . Mallick uses The Thin Red Line to ask similar questions
about the origin of war and to look to nature and our origins for answers. Interestingly, if one was
to simply listen to The Thin Red Line they would have no idea that the director uses the film ...

The shots that bookend The Thin Red Line represent these two themes, death and the will to
survive. As if to warn and prepare the viewer Mallick begins his film with a crocodile who
slowly bellies into a swamp. As it nearly disappears we understand (with a little help from
Zimmer s sinister score) that we re are looking at an apex predator nearly unchanged from its
ancestors of a few million years ago. This crocodile is genetically geared for killing, and is the
animal embodiment of mortality and the timelessness of death. The final shot of the film
contains a single plant growing on a rock which resides just off shore of a grey landscape. As the
wind blows the fickle plant around we are in awe of its will to overcome the odds and to survive
another day. Mallick presents life as defined by this struggle to survive and the presence of
imminent death, this is life for the things of nature, this is life the way our ancestors once
experienced it. Mallick doesn t just draw us to thinking about nature through images of it, he also
links certain basic elements (Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water) to significant

The Catcher In The Rye Essay
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger is about a boy named Holden Caulfield and his struggle
with life. Like any other teenager, he is simply looking for his place in the world. However, it is
shown that Holden is no ordinary teenager for he displays many signs of depression. His
depression seems to escalate throughout the novel. For example, many nights he has trouble
sleeping, he also is quite the alcoholic and a heavy smoker, he doesnt feed his body with the proper
nutrients and he talks of committing suicideat various points in the novel. Holden feels he has
been alienated his whole life and that after losing his brother Allie, there was really no place for
him anywhere. Holden Caulfield is a complex character that is in need of... Show more content on

The last time Id eaten was those two hamburgers I had with Brossard and Ackley when we went
in to Agerstown to the movies. That was a long time ago. It seemed like fifty years ago.(105)
Although Holden is aware that he hasnt eaten in quite some time, he just hasnt felt hungry.
Holdens nutrition is just all over the place. His depression has forced him to do crazy things.
For example, after a night of drinking Holden says, I puked before I went to bed, but I didnt
really have to I forced myself.(90) This shows that Holden is hurting his body in defiantly more
ways than one. Holden is also aware that he is somewhat depressed due to his lousy feelings and
inability to eat much of anything. Holden is on a walk when he says, Id feel better if I had
something to eat. So I went in this very cheap looking restaurant and had doughnuts and coffee.
Only, I didnt eat the doughnuts. I couldnt swallow them too well. The thing is if you get very
depressed about something, its hard as hell to swallow.(196) This just goes to show that Holden
is very depressed and it effects the way he handles simple tasks such as eating. Even though he is
aware of his depression, Holden does not speak of seeing a psychiatrist for serious issues such as
his malnutrition even though he should really see one.
An obvious sign of Holdens depression is the fact that he talks of committing suicide at various
points of the novel. Every time Holden is feeling really lousy he would

Colony Optimization (ABCO) algorithm based on PID control to Maximum Power Point
Tracking (MPPT) of a PV system with energy storage powering DC motor pump system during
isolationand load variations. First, the total model of the entire system is obtained, including the
PV, the boost converter, the storage system, and the DC motor pump system. The controller
performance with the proposed system is studied with a DC motor load deriving a pump of
certain mechanical power. Moreover, the proposed system performance with the optimal approach
in case of applying MPPT is compared with the system in case of operating without MPPT. The
simulation results show that the performance of proposed system in case of operating at MPPT is
improved by about 43% more than at operating without MPPT condition. Index Terms Photovoltaic;

The Better Together Campaign
Independence is something being fought for in many countries today. Hen autonomy is no longer
enough to preserve and protect countries seek to separate themselves. Both Catalonia and Scotland
have some rights to have autonomy, but are seeking to separate from their larger nations to better
serve the needs of their people and preserve their culture. Catalonia has been granted a great deal of
control over its own affairs, including transportation, commerce, culture and safety (Knowledge).
Although this may be the case Catalonia is financially dependent on Spain and does not have the
legal right to completely self govern, set their own taxes, etc. Similarly, Scotland is also dependent
on the United Kingdom. With both nations having thier own... Show more content on

It was instead offered continued union with the UK, but with another name. It was offered the same
shoddy, unicameral devolved Parliament. The same bankrupt political parties. The same Head of
State; the same currency; the same ongoing treaties; the same rotten banking economic system
(Raeburn). Raeburn believes the status quo needs to be shaken and continuing the same practices
are not truly change. Many Scottish people understood this. Voting No as not truly a gage of
whether Scotland anted independence rather a rejection of continuing the same practices under a
different name. That is not true separation. For this reason Raeburn and other critics believe that
the independence vote will continue to fail until true change is sought after in order to create a
thriving separate country. There quite a few similarities between Scotland s failed attempt and
Catalonia s filed attempt at independence. The key factor for the both failing is economic hardship.
Scotland accounts for 8.4 percent of the UK population and 8.3 percent of the UK s total output.
Under the current spending formula Scotland receives about ВЈ31000 ($5000) more per capita than
England. By one calculation even if Scotland were to receive 90 percent of the North Sea oil
revenue, something the UK would never allow,

Certainly, health care services in the United States are a controversial topic. In 1900, the child
welfare movement made an impact on public health as well as in child health care. Public health
helped to catch infectious diseases and many other family conditions. Accordingly, the government
established a national public health infrastructure. Indeed, hospitals, medical schools and research
laboratory creation made a difference in children s health. In fact, the government commitment was
to prevent the infant and child s mortality. Later, the government expands health programs. It
determined the formation of health care programs such as Medicare and Medicaid. Indeed, the
government mandated Early and Periodic Screening for children. Then, the United States
government established the State Children s Insurance Programs (SCHIP). However, more
services should to be offered to support the children s wellbeing. Health care insurance must offer
full cover services to each child in the United States. This way, children s illnesses will be treated
effectively (Howard Golden, 2017). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Power In Margaret Atwood s The Penelopiad
It has been said that the winners of war write the history books. Such is the case in the literary
world of The Odyssey, written around the life of Odysseus about his voyage home from the victory
of the Trojan War. Without much emphasis on his wife, Penelope, or child, Telemachus, Margaret
Atwood took it upon herself to convey how she thought they would be portrayed. Thus, The
Penelopiad was born to attempt to fill in the gaps of The Odysseyfrom the point of view of
characters that had no voice. With a greater perspective given by Atwood also comes more
knowledge, and with knowledge comes power; a phrase heard quite commonly in the English
language. Atwood gives the power of the narrative to Penelope, for the most part, to explain and
command... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She states in the opening on the first page of the book: Now that I m dead I know everything,
and then light heartedly admits, This is what I wished would happen, but like so many of my
wishes it failed to come true (1). Straight off the bat she admits that she does not know
everything, even in the afterlife, instead she only knows a few factoids that [she] didn t know
before (1). It s interesting that Penelope, as a narrator, admits that she doesn t know everything
and conveys the fact to the readers. This gives the readers the impression that perhaps Penelope
is a trustworthy narrator, since she can wholeheartedly admit that she doesn t know everything.
Yet, despite what she s said about wishing she knew everything, she quickly reconsiders the
consequences of knowing, backpedaling through what she s just said and admits: I ve learned
some things I would rather not know, as one does when listening at windows or opening other
people s letters. You think you d like to read minds? Think again, (1). A strong note of
ambivalence is presented in the conflict of knowing versus not knowing. It seems as though she s
at a sort of cognitive dissonance, she wants to know everything but she admits, It s much too high
a price to pay for the satisfaction of curiosity, needless to say (1). As readers analyze the first page
of the novella what comes to mind is Penelope s intended sarcasm could be related to her
ambivalence to the subject of knowing/not

Compare And Contrast Achilles And Odysseus
Achilles and Odysseus are quite different in the way they view combat and take down their
enemies. Achilles seems to rely on his physical prowess, often charging in headfirst into battle using
surprise and brute force to overpower his opponent whereas Odysseus has a tendency to use his
intelligence and cunning nature in both the battlefield and politics as he stealthily plans the demise
of his unsuspecting opponent. Gnashing his teeth with rage, Achillesleaped from his chariot, made
for his enemy, and lunged out at him with his sword (341). Even when faced with a seemingly
invincible assailant, Achilles uses his anger and sheer power to overtake Cycnus and
impulsively attacks his unblemished skin in the hopes to end his life. It is Achilles agile and
finesse in battle that has led to many victories for him. Even though the reasoning for his actions
are more simplistic and even quite animalistic in some scenarios, it is this godlike strength and
vicious temper that makes him the physical embodiment of a vengeful hero and in the Greeks
stories he possesses all of the physical traits a hero should exemplify. For now Odysseus began
to boil with envy and thought up a despicable plan to end his rival (342). Odysseus is quick and
decisive in his actions but he relies on his sly nature to defeat and overwhelm his opponent in
battle. Odysseus is valued for his wisdom and fair counsel, he has experience in the real world and
this shows in the way he manipulates and even plays

Lester B. Pearson and the Suez Canal Crisis
The Suez crisis was a conflict that could have easily turned into a third World War. With a battle
between the Israelis and Egyptians at Sinai, the British and French invasion of Egypt, and nuclear
threats from the Soviet Union, all of the elements were present to escalate the conflict and pull
other countries into the fray. Canada had no direct ties to the Suez crisis, in terms of control or
economic interest. However, Canadian Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Lester B. Pearson,
persuaded the UN General Assembly to send in the United Nations Emergency Force. Even though

The Israeli advance towards the canal is a fake to show the world that Egypt in danger of being
overthrown by the Israelis. The British and French then dissimulate as peacekeepers, trying to
diffuse then tension between Egypt and Israel. They offer Nasser an ultimatum: Israel and Egypt are
to cease fighting or the two Western powers will intervene . On the 31st of October this ultimatum
expires and France and Britain attack, bombing Alexandria and sending in thousands of troops.
Russia then threatens Britain and France with Nuclear weapons. At this point it looks as though the
world is on the brink of another World War.
Canada had no interest to the Suez crisis, in terms of control, economic or military interest, but
Lester B. Pearson saw an opportunity to intervene. While the Cabinet in Ottawa debated about the
attack on Egypt, the UN Security Council met in New York. Even though Canada did not have a
permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, Lester B. Pearson and the Foreign
Affairs delegation of Canada worked towards building an agreement for the proposal to the UN,

which enables a debate to be moved to the General Assembly. The UK and France do not block
this, however, negative votes would not constitute a veto. The Suez Canal

The Characteristics Of Hegemonic Masculinity In The Film
Hegemonic masculinity is present in many forms throughout life and allows for certain types and
groups of people to have an advantage. This typically discourages women, other genders, and men
of not Caucasian decent. In many twenty first century movies this is prevalent and sets a standard
for other people to follow which is wrong in so many ways. Throughout the films Dope and Rogue
One hegemonic masculinityoccurs which causes men to perform acts to assert dominance, which in
turns suppresses women and other races. In the filmDope hegemonic masculinityis present
throughout the film. The main character Malcom, as well as Dom and AJ all display
characteristics of the hegemonic masculinity. They all present ideas of homosocial interactions
which include emotional detachment, competitiveness and sexual objectification of women. (Bird
131) This is extremely prevalent when Malcolm assumes the worst with Nakia being sent by
Dom. He pushes her away which exemplifies emotional detachment. Early the sexual
objectification of women comes into play when Malcolm becomes seduced by Lily and which
leads to her domination and she uses it order to get the drugs which he has in his backpack. The
story itself presents many manhood acts with the boys attempting upgrade their social status
through parties and drugs. Later in the movie Malcom pulls a gun on the bully which he later
becomes respected for doing and is now accepted into the group and drug community. The women

Ethical Hacking And Information Security Essay
Ethical Hacking and Information Security
Merriam Webster defines Hacker as, a person who secretly gets access to a computer system in
order to get information, cause damage. But what if I told you that having a hacker is necessary?
Ethical Hacking is paramount to the security of our Information Technologies (IT). The task of
testing your computers and network for security vulnerabilities and plugging the vulnerabilities you
find before the opposition gets a chance to exploit them. Without having the ability to do what
devious personnel can do inside your IT, you will never fully understand the holes in your security.
It all began in the 1960s at MIT, origin of the term hacker , but the science dates back to 1903 to
the first ever documented hacking of an electronic device. In 1932, Marian Rejewski hacked the
German Enigma Machine. The Enigma machine was an electromechanical device, equipped with
a 26 letter keyboard and 26 lamps, relating to the letters of the alphabet. Inside was a set of wired
drums (rotors and a reflector) that jumbled the input. The Enigma used a plug board to swap pairs
of letters, and the encryption varied from one key press to the next. For two operators to
communicate, both Enigma machines had to be set up in the same way. The large number of
possibilities for setting the rotors and the plug board combined to form an exponential number of
configurations, and the settings were changed daily, so the machine code had to be broken each
day. Marian s

Service Oriented Architecture
Software Architecture is how a system is structured, it is a collection of all the elements that are
what make the system, there are several different styles which can be used to create a Program or
Programs. Software Architecture styles will describe the classes of the architecture being used, these
classes of course can be used repeatedly, there are known practices that allow the reuse ( Clements,

Resource Oriented Architecture
Resource Oriented Architecture (ROA) is the structural design supporting the internetworking of
resources. A resource in this context is any entity that can be identified and assigned a uniform
resource identifier ( URI) (whatis.techtarget.com). Per Dr. Roy Fielding, Resource oriented
software is known as an architectural style that exploits the existing technology and protocols of
the web, including HTTP and XML. There are four concepts that are most essential for ROA s
which are:
Resources
Names (URIs)
What they represent
Links between each
And there are also four properties;
Addressability
Uniform Interface
Statelessness
Connectedness (whatis.techtarget.com).
With ROA s it is very important to first determine what should be considered as a Resource, this
is what really distinguishes the difference between the SOA s and the ROA s, once this has been
done the next thing would be to determine the resource types and how to invoke methods and also
how to correspond to the responses. The resources will be accessed through the HTTP interface.
Because the Resource Oriented Architectures are still in its beginning stages, in my opinion, I don
t believe it would be the best choice between itself and a Service Oriented
Architecture at this time, I honestly believe

The Scientific Method Of Science Essay
The Scientific Method
Introduction
The Scientific Method is defined as a method of procedure that has characterized natural science
since the 17th century, consisting in systematic observation, measurement, and experiment, and the
formulation, testing, and modification of hypotheses. The scientific method is used throughout the
world which makes it a uniform way to systematically conduct experiments. The guidelines in this
method are used so that anyone can repeat the experiment as accurate as possible every time the
experiment is done. All measurements in the scientific world are made in metric measurements so
there is a uniform system of measurement. The Scientific Method has steps that are taken to get
faster, more accurate results. The first step is to make observations over the subject you are
testing. This includes studying previous data over the topic under investigation, and making your
own observations. Step number two is to form a testable hypothesis. Also, by forming a
hypothesis the scientist can plan out how the experiment will be conducted. If the scientist has a
well prepared hypothesis they should be able to make a prediction of what the results of the
experiment will be. After the hypothesis has been formed it is time for the experiment. With the
experiment the hypothesis will be tested, data will be obtained, and the results will be concluded.
The data will also be used to reject, support, or to modify the hypothesis. Step number four is to

Alfred Hitchcock s 1963 thriller, The Birds, is known as an apocalyptic masterpiece. Advertising

reason for birds all of species flocking together to kill and to cause chaos still goes unknown today.
Tippi Hedren and Rod Taylor star in this disastrous horror filmthat throws the viewer for a loop at
the end of all the slaughtering and disorder in a small ordinary town in California. Through
choosing a specific setting and dynamic characterization, Alfred Hitchcockshows that nature cannot

shows Melanie crouched down in the boat as Mitch goes into the house. He is then shown running

Melanie, begins waving, and jumps into his truck to meet her back at the dock. Melanie is almost

off a chain reaction that progresses and worsens through the rest of the movie.
The setting, Bodega Bay, California, is a small city north of San Francisco, where mostly
everyone knows each other. In 1963, the town was somewhat remote which made for a perfect
reason to use. Hitchcock knew that it would take a while for the word to spread that birds were
attacking the residents adding to the horror. Being that the town is a beach town, it gave an open

Science Should Progress Through Falsification And...
Popper believes science should progress through falsification and demarcation as a way to
distinguish real scientific theories from pseudoscience. (A. Popper) Falsification is how a
scientist should look at a problem they are attempting to solve instead of using existing theories
and treating them as scientific laws you should instead try and prove existing theories wrong
using emperical evidence to solve the questions being asked. (A. Popper) believes Science keeps
moving forward and the only way to progress is to prove existing theories wrong, replacing them
with new theories. In contrast verification of theories (attempting to prove a theory right) holds
little water with Popper this is because proving a theory right has already been done. All a
researcher must do to prove a theory right is duplicate a previous study or experiment and this
according to (A. Popper) is not science and is not the advancement of scientific knowledge.
Furthermore (A. Popper 4.0 The growth of Human Knowledge) Popper believes science is
falsifiable and that their are no true facts. The scientific methoduses a deductive process. However
this deductice process does not compare the hypothesis and conclusions with the actual theory. All
observations and conclusions are theory based. Discussed previously theories according to Popper
should be scrutinized using falsification.
Popper has a four step procedure for his view of the deductive process. (A. Popper 4.0 The growth

Introduction
The reason we choose Italy as our country project and wine as our product of choice to export into
Italy is because exporting American wine into Italy is difficult and demanding. Italy is number two
in wine consumption by country. Per person, Italians drink more wine than anyone in the world.
The average Italian drinks approximately 15 gallons a year, mostly of Italian wine. We hope to
change that by expanding our foreign market sales of wine distribution export to include Italy as
part of our direct export sales.
The name of our company is American Wine Exports Company, Ltd. We currently export
American made wine into many different countries and now we are looking to expand our sales
into one of the toughest wine regions in the world, Italy. The global market as a strong interest in

The objective of this paper is to research the country of Italy, to decide the best mode of entry into
Italy from the U.S. and to determine if there are any trade related issues. Furthermore, to conduct
research to help our company develop a marketing strategy to expand our global sales of wine to
include Italy. Our projections for success are huge with Italy being number two on the list of wine

Analyzing The Distinctive Sorts Of Management Structures
Summary
This report clarifies the distinctive sorts of management structures that are being used, their
advantages and disadvantages, and gives illustrations of where to utilise each one. Furthermore, it
examines different variables that ought to be considered when surveying management structures in
quickly changing economic situations.
Introduction
At the point when another representative joins an organisation one of the first things they learn is
the organisation s management structure. This incorporates understanding the working associations
with their manager, subordinates and team. Management factors in every type of business from
large multinational corporations to small enterprises. A Company that has 150 staff will not need
the same management style to that of a small 6 member staff team.
Picking the right management structure guarantees an organisation proceeds with development,
happy employees and gainful returns for the shareholders. Picking an unsuitable structure makes
pressures in the middle of employees and supervisors, permits wasteful work practices to thrive and
decreases organisation profits. In the most pessimistic scenario an inaccurate management structure
can prompt organisation closure.
Sadly, numerous organisations place confidence in their association s management structure is
right, static and never calls for evolving. In any case, such suspicions are guileless and as the pace
of progress increments, there is a need to persistently evaluate the

Ethical Theories Of Normative Ethics
Over the last couple of weeks in Philosophy 103, we learned five theories concerning normative
ethics: utilitarianism, duty ethics, virtue ethics, care ethics, and natural law ethics. While learning
about those theories, I often thought about how the arguments for some theories included
interesting ideas that I personally agreed with, but the methods of reasoning were somewhat
lacking. Contrastingly, I encountered theories with arguments that were not thought provoking
ideas at first, but I became acclimated to them due to the logical and well thought out
methodologies. In this essay, I will argue for my own normative ethical theory; an act is right if it
is virtuous and conductive towards relationships with other people and wrong if it is... Show more

A person who practices virtue attempts to live a well balanced and stable life. While I recognize
Aristotle s argument, the argument itself presents people as isolated human beings who try to be
virtuous, or at least attempt to, with no consideration of how our interactions with others affect us
and, therefore, affect what is considered right and wrong.
The lack of reflection on how interpersonal relationships affect morality is where Virginia Held s
view completes my normative ethical theory. Her view of care ethics establishes the importance of
relationships with others, as people depend on one another to some capacity. Virginia Held declares
that an act is right if it nurtures a relationship and wrong if it does not. What is significant about
Held s methodology is that it considers the feminine perspective of caring for someone, which many
philosophers did not consider when making their arguments. The importance of interpersonal
relationships in care ethics is something that is certainly applicable to this day and age. With new
technology and globalization, our capacity to interact with others has greatly increased, and to
dismiss our connectedness while making a normative ethical theory in the modern era would be
irrational. Aristotle s virtue ethics and care ethics could then be

Four Characteristics Essay Comparison Of Four Ecosystems
Comparison of Four Ecosystem Essay Assignment An ecosystem is the relationship between the
biotic and abiotic components. Biotic components are composed of all living things in contrast,
abiotic components are composed of the non living parts of an environment. (Ms. Blackshaw) This
essay is focused on the abiotic factors that influence an ecosystem. They are many abiotic factors
affecting an ecosystem such as temperature, water, wind, sunlight, rocks, soil, and oxygen.
However, the three abiotic factors that affect a parking lot, field, meadow, and forest the
greatest are wind, rock and water. Wind is defined as the movement of the air. Even though,
Wind is an abiotic factor it is still vital for various ecosystems. In parking lots, wind is non
prominent due to the lack of trees compared to the forest, where it is chilly and windy. Some
biotic factors that were recorded in the parking lot were, grass, tress, and dandelions. Dandelions
are important for bees and other organisms that consume nectar. Without wind, the dandelion
blossoms would not be able to blow away creating more dandelions for bees and other insects to
consume. This gives the organisms less nectar and it may cause death because the lack of
resources for them to consume in that area. Fields produce more wind currents compared to
parking lots because its an open space, with more trees. Since there are not a lot of interferences
with the fields, wind picks up grass pollens and spreads it throughout the fields making the fields
richer and healthier. This allows the primary consumers to eat the grass and be healthy. Causing
the entire food chain to be healthy. Meadows compared to fields, have a bit more wind due to the
trees and bushes that compose the ecosystem. The winds help for cooling birds and insects. Wind
also affects plants throughout their growth. Slight winds help the plants grow sturdier, so other
consumers can benefit from it. Winds in forests are very high due to the number of trees. Due to
more wind, it helps animals such as birds to fly without much effort and the same with butterfly s.
Without wind in forests animals that fly tend to struggle a lot because it does not have wind
support. Rock or stone is a natural substance.

Nt1310 Unit 8 Lab
The objective of the lab was to program a vehicle to continuously drive in a one meter square.
The square was to be completed in less than 20 seconds, and only the wheel encoder could be used
to navigate the vehicle. All of this was done by using the Arduino software tool and the Redbot
library to create a program that would satisfy the given lab requirements. The program below has a
void setup() function which only runs once and is used to create a pin input into the board. Next is
the void loop() function which runs forever until there is a condition that makes the program exit
the loop. In the loop() function, there is a for loop that contains the functions driveStraight() and
turnLeft() with a delay command after each one. The drive Straight() function takes in the two
parameters, the preferred distance and motor power. The turnLeft() function takes in an angle and
turning speed.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next, there is a while loop that continues to run if the left encoder is less than the value of the
number of revolutions multiplied by the counted ticks per revolution. After this, if the computed
motor ticks are unequal between the two motors, the function is written to where the vehicle can
adjust and correct itself if it starts to drift to one side. This is done by if else statements in which
each motor power is adjusted. Variables used in the driveStraight() function were used in the
turnLeft () function as well. The function contains a turningTime variable, which is set to the
inputted angle multiplied by 1000 and is divided by the inputted turning speed. Like the previous
function, if else statements were used to adjust each of the motors power to make a proper turning
angle. At the end of the function, the command encoder.clearEnc(Both) clears both the encoders

Essay On Surveillance Of Consumers
The eye on shoppers.
Nothing is in a grocery store is where it is by accident. Every item on a shelf has been planned
Paco Underhill claimed, who studied behavior and flavor of million American shoppers by looking
at the recorded footages inside the stores for years. By tracing customer s movement through the
lens, Paco drew out functions of customer s attention and action in stores, and then found out ways
which help stores improve their quality of services. Therefore, Paco s research such as a gold key
for business s successful that every company wants. However, his research turned to a controversy
when some critics arraigned the surveillance of consumers by retail anthropologists is manipulative
and unethical. Some people concerned about customer s privacy and argued that using their
information for the business s profit is unacceptable. Nonetheless, surveillance of consumers is
definitely scot free and advantageous by benefits it brings, which are making convenience for
customers, improving store s services, and developing the economy.
Firstly, making convenience for customers is one of the reasons surveillance of consumers is
beneficial. In the twenty first century, shopping became a common sense for every single one in
the world. Stores do not only provide food and drink which help people survive but supply other
necessities and hobbies. However, in the modern life, majority people are busy with their job so

Buying Coffee From A Coffee Shop
When I think about all the purchases I make on a somewhat regular basis, the major item that
stands out the most to me is coffee. I can confidently say that a coffee from a coffee shop is an
item that I absolutely by on a daily basis. Some other items I purchase somewhat regularly, but
on a less frequent basis than a daily coffee, would be weekly or biweekly groceries. A little less
frequently I will make beauty purchases. I would say on a monthly basis I will buy hair products
and make up. Although there are many other purchase that I make within a given year, I would say
that these items are the consistent ones that I continue purchase regularly. When it comes to buying
coffee, I don t give it a whole lot of thought. I am not picky when it comes to my coffee, any kind
will do. The sole purpose of purchasing it is to give me a boost of caffeine in the morning to start
my day. I never really thought too much about how buying a coffee would have any affects on the
environment, but being forced to think about it really opens up my eyes. Coffee that people grab
on the go will either come in plastic or styrofoam. I will admit that I am guilty of not always
properly disposing of these cups in the proper recyclingbins, and I have seen first hand that I am not
alone. I never really thought about how the amount of coffee that I buy in a given year, and all of
the un recycled plastic and styrofoam could be causing environmental harm. It s not just the

The Importance Of Equality In The French Revolution
The French Revolution is a great example of how equality leads to peace and order; if the people
of France were equal during the time of the Revolution, there would not have been so much
conflict and reformation of government. I want to focus on equality because it is a topic that is
dear to my heart for many reasons and I firmly believe that the lack of equal rights is what fueled
the French Revolutionand led to the violence and chaos that occurred during that time. Due to the
Monarchy that the French had at the time, citizens were under a feudal class system that kept
their people from being equal in government. This division between classes is just one of the
things that aided the violence that occurred during the French Revolution simply because people
were not equal. No one was represented in government and no power was distributed amongst the
people; therefore, people felt they were walked on and that their life was not as valuable. The
imbalance of power drove people to violence because the citizens of France felt this was the only
way to make themselves heard. This is just one example of how inequality led to the destruction of
the society in France during the French Revolution. The Feudal Class System and active and
passive citizenship were the main contributors to the lack of equality in France and that is why it
fueled the French Revolution. The first issue that led to the revolution was misrepresentation in
government. This misrepresentation I m referring is

The Civil War, By Harriet Beecher Stowe
Albert Einstein once said, You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play

Beauregard better than that? It could be said that Beauregard, with his quick wit and
tremendous skill, was destined to play a vital role in the Civil War. Decades of tension and
rivalry between the North and the South led to the five year war between the states, more
commonly known as the Civil War. No one knows for certain what the true cause for war was;
some people claim it was slavery; some people insist it was state s rights. The main issues included

The five year war resulted in over 360,000 Union deaths and over 260,000 Confederate deaths,
with gruesome and bloody skirmishes and battles such as the Battle of Antietam, the bloodiest
single day of the war, and the Battle of Gettysburg, the bloodiest battle of the war . The war
ended in a Union victory after General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant at
Appomattox Courthouse on April 9, 1865 (historynet). But how did General Beauregard affect the
Civil War? To summarize, Beauregard played a key role in the Battle of Fort Sumter, the First
Battle of Bull Run, and was an excellent militant. Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard was born
on May 28, 1818, into a well respected Creole family. He was raised on a sugarcane plantation in

Research On The Methods Of Surveying
Surveys and Happiness: A study on the different techniques used to persuade individuals to
participate in survey taking
By: Zachary Bernal
University of Kansas
Abstract
Many studies have been done regarding researchers abilities to obtain information from individuals
from various methods of surveying. Drawing on the social psychological factors of persuasion and
compliance, studies have shown that if individuals receive something from the researcher (e.g.
money, conversation, advice) they are much more likely to agree to participate in the survey due
to the norms of reciprocity (Groves et al., 1992). Another key factor in determining people s
compliance with a request draws on the ideas that individuals in a ... Show more content on

Over the years I started to wonder what the most effective way was to address new customers.
Sometimes I would approach them and before I say a word they already dismiss me with an, I m
good, thanks. Making it quite clear they don t want my help or anything I m selling. So I started
to ask myself what leads to the most customer involvement and willingness to be sold to? I
finally began to notice that if the customer was simply asked how their day was going, or first
primed with casual conversation before asking if they needed any help on the sales floor, they
were much more likely to request my help or ask a question. These interactions between customers
lead to broader implications of persuasion and compliance. Compliance is defined as, Responding
favorably to an explicit request by another person. (Gilovich, et al., 2013). Persuasion is defined
as, The action of influencing someone or of being influenced to do or believe something. (Gillath,
2014). These mechanisms of persuasion and compliance could carry larger implications outside of
the retail setting. It seems as though people are much more likely to be compliant to a request and
succumb to persuasion if they are in a better mood. Therefore, if salespeople, telemarketers,
charities, and other institutions were to add a more personal experience to their target they will
increase the likelihood of that individual to be persuaded or

Beast From Water Alternate Ending Essay
CHAPTER FIVE Beast from Water
The tide was coming in and there was only a narrow strip of firm beach between the water and the
white, stumbling stuff near the palm terrace. Ralph chose the firm strip as a path because he
needed to think, and only here could he allow his feet to move without having to watch them.
Suddenly, pacing by the water, he was overcome with astonishment. He found himself
understanding the wearisomeness of this life, where every path was an improvisation and a
considerable part of one s waking life was spent watching one s feet. He stopped, facing the strip;
and remembering that first enthusiastic exploration as though it were part of a brighter childhood,
he smiled jeeringly. He turned then and walked back toward the platform with the sun in his face.
The time had come for the assembly and as he walked into the concealing splendors of the sunlight
he went carefully over the points of his speech. There must be no mistake about this assembly, no
chasing imaginary. . . . He lost himself in a maze of thoughts that were rendered vague by his
lack of words to express them. Frowning, he tried again. This meeting must not be fun, but

wind created by his speed that breathed about his face. This wind pressed his grey shirt against his

Fourteenth Amendment is talking about the equal protect clause. It states, No matter the race or
gender, you will be protected by the law and is a very important part of the constitution of 1868.
The clause has also helped secure court cases. First, equal protection of the laws means that
everyone, no matter raceor gender, will be protected by the law. During the segregation times,

It was added as a part of the fourteenth amendment. The Fourteenth Amendment forbade states
from taking away rights from citizens. This means that everyone now has the full rights of an
American citizen. Even though this was now a law, whites still tried to bed the rules. To prevent
stop that from happening, the equal protection clause was added to the amendment. This law not
only applies to African Americans, but also to Males, Females, Mexicans, Asian, etc. No matter
what your race or gender is, you are guaranteed protection too and that is important. Third, U.S.
Supreme Court cases have helped secure the equal protection laws. The clause helped brown
win the case of Brown vs Board of Education. Brown sued the Board of Education because his
daughter had to walk a mile and under a dangerous railroad track to get to school instead of
going to the all whites school that was a couple of blocks away. In the beginning, the court was in

The Student Movement of 1968 Essay
After the Revolution of 1910, the Mexican political system depended on tactics of repression,
manipulation and coercion to control the actions of the opposition. In 1968 the government faced a
movement that could not be controlled through the same tactics. The Student Movement of 1968
represented a changing in the political system where those who felt suppressed voiced their
discontent, in spite of government suppression. Luis Echeverria, the president following the
Student Movement, faced political turmoil and instability during his presidency; he instituted
reforms that were considered left during his time. Although Echeverria did this because he felt the

Signaled by green flares, authorities gunned down on students, teachers, children and families. The
granederos and la brigada blanca ran into the crowd and indiscriminately began to break up the
peaceful crowd. Although there are no official counts of those who were killed, it is estimated that
hundreds died and countless other were injured, or disappeared completely that night. The massacre
at Tlatelolco signified the inability of the PRI regime to control the opposition. Their techniques of
oppression and coercion were no longer working the regime faced trouble. Tlatelolco marked the
beginning of a new political era: one of mutual distrust between the people and government.
Although the movement was localized in Mexico City and was represented elsewhere in weaker
forms, the social and political implications that the movement had has a deeper impact in Mexican
history. Although the students initiated the movement in response to the acts of disproportionate
violence that the government acted in towards the students, it continued to be fueled by underlying
issues with the government. For one, the students were enraged at the expenditures that Mexico
was making for the Olympic Games; they viewed the Olympic Games as a spectacle for the
world, while the people in Mexico lived in mediocre conditions. Students wanted to strip away the
mask and destroy forever the myth of the PRI.

A Summary On The New Offence
1a) The new offence is triable either way meaning it is a crime which can be tried as a summary
offence (Magistrates court less serious crime e.g. petty theft) or as an indictable offence (Crown
Court with Jury more serious crime e.g. robbing a bank). If the magistrates feel that their
sentencing powers are sufficient if convicted, they can indicate they accept jurisdiction. The
defendant can then have the choice to choose if they wish to be tried in the magistrate s court or
before a jury. This is not the case in some offences e.g. case concerning criminal damage which is
less the ВЈ5000 would be tried summarily or a case on homicide would be tried upon indictment. If
tried in magistrates the maximum imprisonment sentence would be 6 months, a fine or both and in
the Crown court the maximum imprisonment sentence would be a term not exceeding 3 years, a
fine or both.
1b) Explanation of each crime is as follows:
i.Result Crime
Here the defendants conduct must create a particular result e.g. murder, where the accused s act
must cause the death of a human being e.g. R v Mellor [1996], here the defendant injured the
victim who died two days later in hospital, thus defendant was found guilty of murder by the court.
ii. Status Crime
These are offences where the actus reus (AR) consists of particular situations and sometimes a
consequence but no physical act. This is an offence of being rather than doing i.e. Winzar v Chief
Constable of Kent (1983), here the defendant

Integrating Religious And Spirituality Within Counseling,...
Summary There are several key concepts in this study. Religion and spirituality are discussed and
compared to the knowledge and skills one learns when dealing with multicultural counseling.
Walker, Gorsuch, and Tan (2004), there are three approaches to integrating religious and
spirituality in counseling, explicit integration, implicit integration, and intrapersonal integration.
Explicit integration is a more overt approach that directly and systematically deals with spiritual
or religious issues in therapy and uses spiritual resources (Tan, 1996a; as cited in Walker et al.,
2004, p. 70). The implicit integration is described as a more covert approach that does not initiate
the discussion of religious or spiritual issues and does not openly, directly, or systematically use
spiritual resources (Tan, 1996a; as cited in Walker et al., 2004, p. 70). Finally the authors discuss
intrapersonal integration which refers to the manner in which a therapist uses his or her personal
religious or spiritual experiences in counseling (Tan, 1996a; as cited in Walker et al., 2004, p. 70)
Literature is used to identify studies that they used in the meta analysis. They also use demographic
characteristics and computation of effect size in their calculations. As a result of these calculations
the study revealed several key findings. First, the majority of therapist contrasted with the general
population by being inactive in the denominations (Walker et al., 2004). Second, consulting

I wasn t interested in books when I was very young, except for an interest in comic books. Maybe
that s because I was never really read to consistently. My mother claims to have read to me some

whether I wanted to or not, and usually I didn t want to.
Part of the reason I didn t enjoy my early years in school was that I was an average student who
made terrible marks in penmanship, something they graded students on back then as if fine motor
skills, or more to the point the lack of them were a sign of your place on the scale between true
intelligence and dull existence. By the second grade I consistently made D s on my report card in
handwriting, which prompted my mother, who had beautiful penmanship, to force me to sit for
hours practicing my letters.

How Did Julius Caesar Change
Augustus became Rome s first emperor after Rome changed from republic to empire after Julius
Caesar assassination. Julius Caesar is Augustus great uncle and adopted father. He shrewdly
combined military might, institution building and lawmaking to become Rome s sole ruler, laying
the foundations of the 200 year Pax Romana (Roman Peace) and an empire that lasted, in various
forms, for nearly 1,500 years (History.com).
He was born in 63 B.C. and even his adoption he was known as Octavian. At the age of 16
Octavius donned the toga because it was the Roman sign of manhood and was taking on
responsibilities through his family connections (History.com). Octavius went to modern day Spain
to fight alongside Caesar even though his shipwrecked, so he had to cross enemy territory to get
to Caesar. This act impressed Caesar most that Octavian was named heir and successor in Caesar s
will. At the age of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
and then he was granted the name Augustus. They say that Octavian his name changed to Augustus
because he was born in August, like his uncle Julius Caesar changed his name because he was born
in July. In a four year span Octavian secured his rule by using Cleopatra s seized treasure to pay
his soldiers to keep them happy and content, but mostly importantly having their loyalty. Also he
passed laws bring back the traditions of the Roman Republic to mollify the Rome s Senators and
ruling classes. Octavian worked to improve and beautify the city of Rome to make the people
happy and content. During his 40 years reign, Augustus nearly doubled the size of the empire,
adding territories in Europe and Asia Minor and securing alliances that gave him effective rule
from Britain to India (History.com). He also spent much of his time outside of Rome to
consolidate power in the provinces and instituting of system of taxation to integrate the empire s
reaches and goals. He also expanded Rome by updating the roads and by putting in a postal

The Power of Cleopatra Essay
How did Cleopatra rise to and maintain her power? Not much is known about her life since she
lived so long ago, but what is known is enough to piece together some of her life story. Cleopatra
was a strong and intelligent woman who made it through all the struggle and strife of the ancient
world until it became too much for her. Cleopatra s reign began and ended with tragedy, but was
maintained by exploited love connections.
Cleopatra VII Philopator was born in 69 B.C. in Alexandria, Egypt. ( Cleopatra: The Woman... )
Her father was Ptolemy XII. Her mother was speculated to be Cleopatra V Tryphaena, who was
possibly her father s half sister. ( Cleopatra. ) She had five siblings which included two older
sisters, two younger brothers, and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
( Cleopatra: The Woman... ) In 49 B.C., Cleopatra was forced to flee to Syria after Pothinus,
Achillas, and Theodotus, who were Ptolemy XIII s advisors, sought to overthrow her. They
convinced the Egyptian people that Cleopatra was the cause of the famine that they were
experiencing. ( Cleopatra. )( Cleopatra VII s Childhood... ) She smuggled herself into the royal
palace in a rug to plead her case with Julius Caesar. Cleopatra and Caesar became lovers. Ptolemy
XIII discovered this and declared war on Caesar. Caesar overpowered Ptolemy XIII s army and
Ptolemy XIII drowned in the Nile River while trying to escape. (Cleopatra: The Woman... )
After Ptolemy XIII s death, Caesar restored Cleopatra and Ptolemy XIV, her youngest brother, as
rulers of Egypt. In 47 B.C., Cleopatra gave birth to a child that was believed to be Caesar s. The
child was Ptolemy XV Philopator Philometor Caesar, but was known to the Egyptian people as
Caesarion, which means Little Caesar. In 46 to 45 B.C. Cleopatra, Ptolemy XIV, and Caesarion
traveled to Rome to be with Caesar. He was murdered soon after in March of 44 B.C. They
returned to Egypt where Ptolemy XIV died soon after their return. ( Cleopatra VII s Childhood... )
Cleopatra feared for their lives because of the Caesarion posed to Octavian. ( Cleopatra: The

Sahel Climate
The Sahel is an area in Africa which suffers droughts and it is hard to grow crops due to the hot
climate. Seasonal shifts there lead to decreased rainfall and the drought tolerant maize helps farmers
adapt to climate change.
The Sahel is the transition zone in Africa. It has a great typical ecoclimatic and biogeographic
reflection of a semi arid climate. It is located between the Sahara to the north and the Sudanian
Savanna which was historically called the Sudan region to the south.[1] The Sahel crosses the south
central latitudes of Northern Africa between the Atlantic Ocean and the Red Sea. And the Sahel
has a tropical, hot steppe climate which means the climate there is typically hot, sunny, dry and
there are winds all year long. The cause of the hot weather is that the Sahel has a high to very
high sunshine duration year round while the Sahel is near the equator. It has annual sunshine
duration between 2,700 hours which is more than about 61% of the daylight hours on other
places and 3,500 hours which is more than 79% of the daylight hours. The sunshine duration in
the Sahel approaches desert levels, and is comparable to that in the Arabian Desert, even though
the Sahel is only a steppe and not a desert. Also the cloud cover of the Sahel is low to very
low.[2] Because of the above reasons, the climate is generally hot, with unreliable rains across
different seasons. The dry season is usually from October to ... Show more content on

developed countries set up this project to decrease the level of drought and other constraints to

ton per hectare under moderate drought and with a 20 to 30% increase over farmers current yields,
benefiting 30 40 million people in 13 African countries.[4] The project made many Africans life

The Importance Of Language In Communication
Language has an array of layers that generate and promote a vast degree of social and cultural
interactions, contributing to the communications of humans in each aspect of their lives. As
Vyvyan Evans (2014) states language is central to our lives, and is arguably the cultural tool that
sets humans, us, apart from any other species . (p.1)
Language has an indefinite list of rules, conventions and ideas that come together to create
communications among humans across the world. When described, language can be defined as an
object by it s various definitions which include the functions of language, material forms, language
as a system, social semiotics, language variations and syntax in sentences among adults and
children.
The functions of language can be easily described as the use of language for a range of different
reasons in order to talk, write, listen, read. (Halliday, 1985, p.1). These functions may be for
personal, interpersonal, directive, referential and imaginative reasons. Personal may be expression
of ones feelings, thoughts and ideas. Interpersonal would include discussion, social chat and sharing
ideas or concerns, which may possibly occur in a work place or in general situations. Directive
might be to influence the actions of others, which might occur in leadership roles. Referential is
reporting actions or events. Finally, imaginative encompasses storytelling and problem solving.

shifting your diet dramatically really that healthy?
Carbohydrates are the main source of our energy and the nutrient that our brain uses the most.

individuals. These individuals have shown a high jump on their LDL levels. Their HDL levels
seem to stay at a constant for the most part, except for a few in which it drops.

The Flipped Classroom Experience
Technologies have its own share of advantages and disadvantages. Technology can be a boon in
disguise or it can work in opposite way. In past, several learning institutes have tried applying new
and latest technologies to enhance the teaching experience. Technology needs to be analysed
methodically to estimate the benefits. The technology we discussed and recommend includes
Webex, classroom recording which facilitate collaborative online interactive sessions. These
technology have played important role in making teaching more flexible and beneficial to students
and teachers. Many universities across the world have started using online interactive sessions for
teaching. This is also known as online tutoring or online course. As of now, major US universities
including MIT and Harvard are offering online courses. It has its own unique selling point of
location flexibility. It has been successfully tried across the world to give more value to students
and make educationtruly global globalized.
This can be also used to have mix of both worlds. Not just online or full recorded classroom videos
but something that gives a better learning experience. It is also called as Flipped learning. Flipped
learning is combination of online teaching and recorded video sessions, which students watch
usually at home and homework is now completed in the class with interaction from teachers and
collaboration of students. Flipped teaching is a new form of blended learning instead of pure
lecturing.

This doesn t seem like a big number but if you think about it all of these people have something
tragic happening in there country like: war, torture and cruel punishment. One of the most
important part is they have a act called the Immigration And Refugee Protection Act. This act
has three key points to it: to save lives, to meet the legal obligations that Canada has agreed too
and lastly to offer a place of refuge. This act was made because of the Singh Decision. In 1985
Canada supreme court ruled that the 1976 immigration act was a violation of section 7 of The
Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms witch is the right to life, liberty and security of the
person. After this discussion they came up with the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act that
doesn t violate immigrants rights. Refugees are also very great workers they come to Canada
ready to work hard and start a new life. In 2016 the amount of immigrants that came to Canada
was 46,700, that is the highest it has been since 1980. Helping refugees is an amazing way to
spend life and Canada has done it

Green Student Identification #: 100120221 Acadia University Dr. Dye Kelly Organizational Behaviour (Busi 2733 X2) March 5th, 2015 Organizational Behavior is a field of study devoted to understanding, explaining, and ultimately improving the attitudes and behaviours of individuals and groups in organizations (Colquitt, LePine, Wesson, 2013, p. 7). One way in which we can understand an individual s behaviour in an organization is by researching why workers may feel alienated on the job. Kai Erickson, an American sociologist who studied workers in the workplace, once said Alienation, then, is disconnection, separation the process by which human ... In other words, the organization in which a worker belongs leaves them feeling worthless, insecure, useless and empty .It may even leave them feeling aggravated and inadequate of actually making a difference in the product that they are making. Erickson explained why this happens by stating For one thing, people can be said to be alienated when they lose contact with the product of their own labour (Erickson, 1986, p. 2). In Fact ,these feelings may become apparent when workers are given tedious tasks to perform with no rewards or consideration to how they feel. For example, the following excerpt relates the personal experience of Xu Lizhi an employee of Foxann Company that produces I phones in China: Even the machine is nodding off ,Sealed workshops store diseased iron ,Wages concealed behind curtains , Like the love that young workers bury at the bottom of their hearts ,With no time for expression, emotion crumbles into dust they have stomachs forged of iron Full of thick acid, sulphuric and nitric Industry captures their tears before they have the chance to fall Time flows by, their heads lost in fog Output weighs down their age, pain works overtime day and night In their lives, dizziness before their time is latent The jig forces the skin to peel And while it s at it, plates on a layer of aluminum alloy Some still endure, while others are taken by illness I am dozing between them, guarding The last graveyard of our youth. • 3. The Thin Red Line Movie Essay An Examination of War Through Nature Films such as, The English Patient, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler s List, Gettysburg and Stalingrad, prove that the nineteen nineties were a boom time for American war movies. Terrence Mallick s The Thin Red Line is different from these films because of its focus on nature. All of Mallick s films concentrate on the link between nature and origin, Mallick explores this relationship by having his characters audibly ask questions of origin such as Where did we come from? and Why are we this way? . Mallick uses The Thin Red Line to ask similar questions about the origin of war and to look to nature and our origins for answers. Interestingly, if one was to simply listen to The Thin Red Line they would have no idea that the director uses the film ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The shots that bookend The Thin Red Line represent these two themes, death and the will to survive. As if to warn and prepare the viewer Mallick begins his film with a crocodile who slowly bellies into a swamp. As it nearly disappears we understand (with a little help from Zimmer s sinister score) that we re are looking at an apex predator nearly unchanged from its ancestors of a few million years ago. This crocodile is genetically geared for killing, and is the animal embodiment of mortality and the timelessness of death. The final shot of the film contains a single plant growing on a rock which resides just off shore of a grey landscape. As the wind blows the fickle plant around we are in awe of its will to overcome the odds and to survive another day. Mallick presents life as defined by this struggle to survive and the presence of imminent death, this is life for the things of nature, this is life the way our ancestors once experienced it. Mallick doesn t just draw us to thinking about nature through images of it, he also links certain basic elements (Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water) to significant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Catcher In The Rye Essay The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger is about a boy named Holden Caulfield and his struggle with life. Like any other teenager, he is simply looking for his place in the world. However, it is shown that Holden is no ordinary teenager for he displays many signs of depression. His depression seems to escalate throughout the novel. For example, many nights he has trouble sleeping, he also is quite the alcoholic and a heavy smoker, he doesnt feed his body with the proper nutrients and he talks of committing suicideat various points in the novel. Holden feels he has been alienated his whole life and that after losing his brother Allie, there was really no place for him anywhere. Holden Caulfield is a complex character that is in need of... His depression has forced him to do crazy things. For example, after a night of drinking Holden says, I puked before I went to bed, but I didnt really have to I forced myself.(90) This shows that Holden is hurting his body in defiantly more ways than one. Holden is also aware that he is somewhat depressed due to his lousy feelings and inability to eat much of anything. Holden is on a walk when he says, Id feel better if I had something to eat. So I went in this very cheap looking restaurant and had doughnuts and coffee. Only, I didnt eat the doughnuts. I couldnt swallow them too well. The thing is if you get very depressed about something, its hard as hell to swallow.(196) This just goes to show that Holden is very depressed and it effects the way he handles simple tasks such as eating. Even though he is aware of his depression, Holden does not speak of seeing a psychiatrist for serious issues such as his malnutrition even though he should really see one. An obvious sign of Holdens depression is the fact that he talks of committing suicide at various points of the novel. Every time Holden is feeling really lousy he would ... Abdelaziz2 1Electrical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Sohag University, Sohag, Egypt 2Electrical Power and Machines Department, Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt Abstract This paper investigates the application of the Artificial Bee Colony Optimization (ABCO) algorithm based on PID control to Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) of a PV system with energy storage powering DC motor pump system during isolationand load variations. First, the total model of the entire system is obtained, including the PV, the boost converter, the storage system, and the DC motor pump system. The controller performance with the proposed system is studied with a DC motor load deriving a pump of certain mechanical power. Moreover, the proposed system performance with the optimal approach in case of applying MPPT is compared with the system in case of operating without MPPT. The simulation results show that the performance of proposed system in case of operating at MPPT is improved by about 43% more than at operating without MPPT condition. Both Catalonia and Scotland have some rights to have autonomy, but are seeking to separate from their larger nations to better serve the needs of their people and preserve their culture. Catalonia has been granted a great deal of control over its own affairs, including transportation, commerce, culture and safety (Knowledge). Raeburn believes the status quo needs to be shaken and continuing the same practices are not truly change. Many Scottish people understood this. Voting No as not truly a gage of whether Scotland anted independence rather a rejection of continuing the same practices under a different name. That is not true separation. For this reason Raeburn and other critics believe that the independence vote will continue to fail until true change is sought after in order to create a thriving separate country. There quite a few similarities between Scotland s failed attempt and Catalonia s filed attempt at independence. The key factor for the both failing is economic hardship. Scotland accounts for 8.4 percent of the UK population and 8.3 percent of the UK s total output. Under the current spending formula Scotland receives about ВЈ31000 ($5000) more per capita than England. In 1900, the child welfare movement made an impact on public health as well as in child health care. Public health helped to catch infectious diseases and many other family conditions. Accordingly, the government established a national public health infrastructure. Indeed, hospitals, medical schools and research laboratory creation made a difference in children s health. In fact, the government commitment was to prevent the infant and child s mortality. Later, the government expands health programs. It determined the formation of health care programs such as Medicare and Medicaid. Indeed, the government mandated Early and Periodic Screening for children. Then, the United States government established the State Children s Insurance Programs (SCHIP). However, more services should to be offered to support the children s wellbeing. • 9. Power In Margaret Atwood s The Penelopiad It has been said that the winners of war write the history books. Such is the case in the literary world of The Odyssey, written around the life of Odysseus about his voyage home from the victory of the Trojan War. Without much emphasis on his wife, Penelope, or child, Telemachus, Margaret Atwood took it upon herself to convey how she thought they would be portrayed. Thus, The Penelopiad was born to attempt to fill in the gaps of The Odysseyfrom the point of view of characters that had no voice. With a greater perspective given by Atwood also comes more knowledge, and with knowledge comes power; a phrase heard quite commonly in the English language. Atwood gives the power of the narrative to Penelope, for the most part, to explain and command... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She states in the opening on the first page of the book: Now that I m dead I know everything, and then light heartedly admits, This is what I wished would happen, but like so many of my wishes it failed to come true (1). Straight off the bat she admits that she does not know everything, even in the afterlife, instead she only knows a few factoids that [she] didn t know before (1). It s interesting that Penelope, as a narrator, admits that she doesn t know everything and conveys the fact to the readers. This gives the readers the impression that perhaps Penelope is a trustworthy narrator, since she can wholeheartedly admit that she doesn t know everything. Yet, despite what she s said about wishing she knew everything, she quickly reconsiders the consequences of knowing, backpedaling through what she s just said and admits: I ve learned some things I would rather not know, as one does when listening at windows or opening other people s letters. You think you d like to read minds? Think again, (1). A strong note of ambivalence is presented in the conflict of knowing versus not knowing. It seems as though she s at a sort of cognitive dissonance, she wants to know everything but she admits, It s much too high a price to pay for the satisfaction of curiosity, needless to say (1). As readers analyze the first page of the novella what comes to mind is Penelope s intended sarcasm could be related to her ambivalence to the subject of knowing/not ... • 10. Compare And Contrast Achilles And Odysseus Achilles and Odysseus are quite different in the way they view combat and take down their enemies. Achilles seems to rely on his physical prowess, often charging in headfirst into battle using surprise and brute force to overpower his opponent whereas Odysseus has a tendency to use his intelligence and cunning nature in both the battlefield and politics as he stealthily plans the demise of his unsuspecting opponent. Gnashing his teeth with rage, Achillesleaped from his chariot, made for his enemy, and lunged out at him with his sword (341). Even when faced with a seemingly invincible assailant, Achilles uses his anger and sheer power to overtake Cycnus and impulsively attacks his unblemished skin in the hopes to end his life. It is Achilles agile and finesse in battle that has led to many victories for him. Even though the reasoning for his actions are more simplistic and even quite animalistic in some scenarios, it is this godlike strength and vicious temper that makes him the physical embodiment of a vengeful hero and in the Greeks stories he possesses all of the physical traits a hero should exemplify. For now Odysseus began to boil with envy and thought up a despicable plan to end his rival (342). Odysseus is quick and decisive in his actions but he relies on his sly nature to defeat and overwhelm his opponent in battle. Odysseus is valued for his wisdom and fair counsel, he has experience in the real world and this shows in the way he manipulates and even plays ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Canada had no direct ties to the Suez crisis, in terms of control or economic interest. However, Canadian Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Lester B. This typically discourages women, other genders, and men of not Caucasian decent. • 14. Ethical Hacking And Information Security Essay Ethical Hacking and Information Security Merriam Webster defines Hacker as, a person who secretly gets access to a computer system in order to get information, cause damage. But what if I told you that having a hacker is necessary? Ethical Hacking is paramount to the security of our Information Technologies (IT). The task of testing your computers and network for security vulnerabilities and plugging the vulnerabilities you find before the opposition gets a chance to exploit them. Without having the ability to do what devious personnel can do inside your IT, you will never fully understand the holes in your security. It all began in the 1960s at MIT, origin of the term hacker , but the science dates back to 1903 to the first ever documented hacking of an electronic device. In 1932, Marian Rejewski hacked the German Enigma Machine. The Enigma machine was an electromechanical device, equipped with a 26 letter keyboard and 26 lamps, relating to the letters of the alphabet. Inside was a set of wired drums (rotors and a reflector) that jumbled the input. The Enigma used a plug board to swap pairs of letters, and the encryption varied from one key press to the next. For two operators to communicate, both Enigma machines had to be set up in the same way. The large number of possibilities for setting the rotors and the plug board combined to form an exponential number of configurations, and the settings were changed daily, so the machine code had to be broken each day. There are four concepts that are most essential for ROA s which are: Resources Names (URIs) What they represent Links between each And there are also four properties; Addressability Uniform Interface Statelessness Connectedness (whatis.techtarget.com). With ROA s it is very important to first determine what should be considered as a Resource, this is what really distinguishes the difference between the SOA s and the ROA s, once this has been done the next thing would be to determine the resource types and how to invoke methods and also how to correspond to the responses. • 16. The Scientific Method Of Science Essay The Scientific Method Introduction The Scientific Method is defined as a method of procedure that has characterized natural science since the 17th century, consisting in systematic observation, measurement, and experiment, and the formulation, testing, and modification of hypotheses. The scientific method is used throughout the world which makes it a uniform way to systematically conduct experiments. The guidelines in this method are used so that anyone can repeat the experiment as accurate as possible every time the experiment is done. All measurements in the scientific world are made in metric measurements so there is a uniform system of measurement. The Scientific Method has steps that are taken to get faster, more accurate results. The first step is to make observations over the subject you are testing. This includes studying previous data over the topic under investigation, and making your own observations. Step number two is to form a testable hypothesis. Also, by forming a hypothesis the scientist can plan out how the experiment will be conducted. If the scientist has a well prepared hypothesis they should be able to make a prediction of what the results of the experiment will be. After the hypothesis has been formed it is time for the experiment. With the experiment the hypothesis will be tested, data will be obtained, and the results will be concluded. The data will also be used to reject, support, or to modify the hypothesis. Step number four is to analyze ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Popper believes science should progress through falsification and demarcation as a way to distinguish real scientific theories from pseudoscience. (A. Popper) Falsification is how a scientist should look at a problem they are attempting to solve instead of using existing theories and treating them as scientific laws you should instead try and prove existing theories wrong using emperical evidence to solve the questions being asked. (A. Popper) believes Science keeps moving forward and the only way to progress is to prove existing theories wrong, replacing them with new theories. In contrast verification of theories (attempting to prove a theory right) holds little water with Popper this is because proving a theory right has already been done. All a researcher must do to prove a theory right is duplicate a previous study or experiment and this according to (A. Popper) is not science and is not the advancement of scientific knowledge. Furthermore (A. Popper 4.0 The growth of Human Knowledge) Popper believes science is falsifiable and that their are no true facts. The scientific methoduses a deductive process. However this deductice process does not compare the hypothesis and conclusions with the actual theory. All observations and conclusions are theory based. • 20. Analyzing The Distinctive Sorts Of Management Structures Summary This report clarifies the distinctive sorts of management structures that are being used, their advantages and disadvantages, and gives illustrations of where to utilise each one. Furthermore, it examines different variables that ought to be considered when surveying management structures in quickly changing economic situations. Introduction At the point when another representative joins an organisation one of the first things they learn is the organisation s management structure. This incorporates understanding the working associations with their manager, subordinates and team. Management factors in every type of business from large multinational corporations to small enterprises. A Company that has 150 staff will not need the same management style to that of a small 6 member staff team. Picking the right management structure guarantees an organisation proceeds with development, happy employees and gainful returns for the shareholders. Picking an unsuitable structure makes pressures in the middle of employees and supervisors, permits wasteful work practices to thrive and decreases organisation profits. In the most pessimistic scenario an inaccurate management structure can prompt organisation closure. Sadly, numerous organisations place confidence in their association s management structure is right, static and never calls for evolving. • 22. Ethical Theories Of Normative Ethics Over the last couple of weeks in Philosophy 103, we learned five theories concerning normative ethics: utilitarianism, duty ethics, virtue ethics, care ethics, and natural law ethics. While learning about those theories, I often thought about how the arguments for some theories included interesting ideas that I personally agreed with, but the methods of reasoning were somewhat lacking. Contrastingly, I encountered theories with arguments that were not thought provoking ideas at first, but I became acclimated to them due to the logical and well thought out methodologies. In this essay, I will argue for my own normative ethical theory; an act is right if it is virtuous and conductive towards relationships with other people and wrong if it is... While I recognize Aristotle s argument, the argument itself presents people as isolated human beings who try to be virtuous, or at least attempt to, with no consideration of how our interactions with others affect us and, therefore, affect what is considered right and wrong. The lack of reflection on how interpersonal relationships affect morality is where Virginia Held s view completes my normative ethical theory. Her view of care ethics establishes the importance of relationships with others, as people depend on one another to some capacity. Virginia Held declares that an act is right if it nurtures a relationship and wrong if it does not. What is significant about Held s methodology is that it considers the feminine perspective of caring for someone, which many philosophers did not consider when making their arguments. The importance of interpersonal relationships in care ethics is something that is certainly applicable to this day and age. With new technology and globalization, our capacity to interact with others has greatly increased, and to dismiss our connectedness while making a normative ethical theory in the modern era would be irrational. • 23. Four Characteristics Essay Comparison Of Four Ecosystems Comparison of Four Ecosystem Essay Assignment An ecosystem is the relationship between the biotic and abiotic components. Biotic components are composed of all living things in contrast, abiotic components are composed of the non living parts of an environment. (Ms. Blackshaw) This essay is focused on the abiotic factors that influence an ecosystem. They are many abiotic factors affecting an ecosystem such as temperature, water, wind, sunlight, rocks, soil, and oxygen. However, the three abiotic factors that affect a parking lot, field, meadow, and forest the greatest are wind, rock and water. Wind is defined as the movement of the air. Even though, Wind is an abiotic factor it is still vital for various ecosystems. In parking lots, wind is non prominent due to the lack of trees compared to the forest, where it is chilly and windy. Some biotic factors that were recorded in the parking lot were, grass, tress, and dandelions. Dandelions are important for bees and other organisms that consume nectar. Without wind, the dandelion blossoms would not be able to blow away creating more dandelions for bees and other insects to consume. This gives the organisms less nectar and it may cause death because the lack of resources for them to consume in that area. Fields produce more wind currents compared to parking lots because its an open space, with more trees. Since there are not a lot of interferences with the fields, wind picks up grass pollens and spreads it throughout the fields making the fields richer and healthier. This allows the primary consumers to eat the grass and be healthy. Causing the entire food chain to be healthy. Meadows compared to fields, have a bit more wind due to the trees and bushes that compose the ecosystem. The winds help for cooling birds and insects. Wind also affects plants throughout their growth. Slight winds help the plants grow sturdier, so other consumers can benefit from it. Winds in forests are very high due to the number of trees. Due to more wind, it helps animals such as birds to fly without much effort and the same with butterfly s. Without wind in forests animals that fly tend to struggle a lot because it does not have wind support. Rock or stone is a natural substance. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. The Importance Of Equality In The French Revolution The French Revolution is a great example of how equality leads to peace and order; if the people of France were equal during the time of the Revolution, there would not have been so much conflict and reformation of government. I want to focus on equality because it is a topic that is dear to my heart for many reasons and I firmly believe that the lack of equal rights is what fueled the French Revolutionand led to the violence and chaos that occurred during that time. Due to the Monarchy that the French had at the time, citizens were under a feudal class system that kept their people from being equal in government. This division between classes is just one of the things that aided the violence that occurred during the French Revolution simply because people were not equal. No one was represented in government and no power was distributed amongst the people; therefore, people felt they were walked on and that their life was not as valuable. The imbalance of power drove people to violence because the citizens of France felt this was the only way to make themselves heard. This is just one example of how inequality led to the destruction of the society in France during the French Revolution. The Feudal Class System and active and passive citizenship were the main contributors to the lack of equality in France and that is why it fueled the French Revolution. The first issue that led to the revolution was misrepresentation in government. This misrepresentation I m referring is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The war ended in a Union victory after General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Courthouse on April 9, 1865 (historynet). Drawing on the social psychological factors of persuasion and compliance, studies have shown that if individuals receive something from the researcher (e.g. money, conversation, advice) they are much more likely to agree to participate in the survey due to the norms of reciprocity (Groves et al., 1992). Making it quite clear they don t want my help or anything I m selling. So I started to ask myself what leads to the most customer involvement and willingness to be sold to? I finally began to notice that if the customer was simply asked how their day was going, or first primed with casual conversation before asking if they needed any help on the sales floor, they were much more likely to request my help or ask a question. These interactions between customers lead to broader implications of persuasion and compliance. Compliance is defined as, Responding favorably to an explicit request by another person. (Gilovich, et al., 2013). Persuasion is defined as, The action of influencing someone or of being influenced to do or believe something. (Gillath, 2014). These mechanisms of persuasion and compliance could carry larger implications outside of the retail setting. It seems as though people are much more likely to be compliant to a request and succumb to persuasion if they are in a better mood. A Summary On The New Offence 1a) The new offence is triable either way meaning it is a crime which can be tried as a summary offence (Magistrates court less serious crime e.g. petty theft) or as an indictable offence (Crown Court with Jury more serious crime e.g. robbing a bank). If the magistrates feel that their sentencing powers are sufficient if convicted, they can indicate they accept jurisdiction. The defendant can then have the choice to choose if they wish to be tried in the magistrate s court or before a jury. This is not the case in some offences e.g. case concerning criminal damage which is less the ВЈ5000 would be tried summarily or a case on homicide would be tried upon indictment. If tried in magistrates the maximum imprisonment sentence would be 6 months, a fine or both and in the Crown court the maximum imprisonment sentence would be a term not exceeding 3 years, a fine or both. 1b) Explanation of each crime is as follows: i.Result Crime Here the defendants conduct must create a particular result e.g. murder, where the accused s act must cause the death of a human being e.g. R v Mellor [1996], here the defendant injured the victim who died two days later in hospital, thus defendant was found guilty of murder by the court. ii. Status Crime These are offences where the actus reus (AR) consists of particular situations and sometimes a consequence but no physical act. • 38. Integrating Religious And Spirituality Within Counseling,... Summary There are several key concepts in this study. Religion and spirituality are discussed and compared to the knowledge and skills one learns when dealing with multicultural counseling. Walker, Gorsuch, and Tan (2004), there are three approaches to integrating religious and spirituality in counseling, explicit integration, implicit integration, and intrapersonal integration. Explicit integration is a more overt approach that directly and systematically deals with spiritual or religious issues in therapy and uses spiritual resources (Tan, 1996a; as cited in Walker et al., 2004, p. 70). The implicit integration is described as a more covert approach that does not initiate the discussion of religious or spiritual issues and does not openly, directly, or systematically use spiritual resources (Tan, 1996a; as cited in Walker et al., 2004, p. 70). Finally the authors discuss intrapersonal integration which refers to the manner in which a therapist uses his or her personal religious or spiritual experiences in counseling (Tan, 1996a; as cited in Walker et al., 2004, p. 70) Literature is used to identify studies that they used in the meta analysis. They also use demographic characteristics and computation of effect size in their calculations. As a result of these calculations the study revealed several key findings. First, the majority of therapist contrasted with the general population by being inactive in the denominations (Walker et al., 2004). Second, consulting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Personal Narrative- Books Have Greatly Impacted my Life... I wasn t interested in books when I was very young, except for an interest in comic books. Maybe that s because I was never really read to consistently. My mother claims to have read to me some when I was younger, but I don t remember it. Giving birth to five kids in seven years, and having one die at three daysold, sort of cut into her time for entertaining me with thrillingrenditions of The Cat in the Hat. I had to entertain myself with what I could find, and I picked up some basic reading skills from some of the kid s shows on television in the sixties. When I hit that magical age of six and went to elementary school, I was introduced to the first real books I can remember. There I learned about the world of Alice and Jerry,... Through the brightly colored images I could visualize myself flying through the sky like Superman; I even had dreams about flying that way and was convinced I actually could during part of my childhood I just could never seem to manage it while I was awake. And I could so easily see myself in a poodle skirt and matching sweater, hanging out at the malt shoppe with Archie and Betty and all of the gang. The words there told me little. I didn t really care what they were actually talking about from frame to frame. The pictures were my inspiration simply to be there with the characters, and that was the fun of it for me. About the only thing I actually remember reading for fun during my elementary years was Mad Magazine, because reading much of anything was just too much like school to me. Reading for school was something I had to do whether I wanted to or not, and usually I didn t want to. Part of the reason I didn t enjoy my early years in school was that I was an average student who made terrible marks in penmanship, something they graded students on back then as if fine motor skills, or more to the point the lack of them were a sign of your place on the scale between true intelligence and dull existence. By the second grade I consistently made D s on my report card in handwriting, which prompted my mother, who had beautiful penmanship, to force me to sit for hours practicing my letters. ... • 42. Sahel Climate The Sahel is an area in Africa which suffers droughts and it is hard to grow crops due to the hot climate. Seasonal shifts there lead to decreased rainfall and the drought tolerant maize helps farmers adapt to climate change. The Sahel is the transition zone in Africa. It has a great typical ecoclimatic and biogeographic reflection of a semi arid climate. It is located between the Sahara to the north and the Sudanian Savanna which was historically called the Sudan region to the south.[1] The Sahel crosses the south central latitudes of Northern Africa between the Atlantic Ocean and the Red Sea. And the Sahel has a tropical, hot steppe climate which means the climate there is typically hot, sunny, dry and there are winds all year long. The cause of the hot weather is that the Sahel has a high to very high sunshine duration year round while the Sahel is near the equator. It has annual sunshine duration between 2,700 hours which is more than about 61% of the daylight hours on other places and 3,500 hours which is more than 79% of the daylight hours. The sunshine duration in the Sahel approaches desert levels, and is comparable to that in the Arabian Desert, even though the Sahel is only a steppe and not a desert. Also the cloud cover of the Sahel is low to very low.[2] Because of the above reasons, the climate is generally hot, with unreliable rains across different seasons. The dry season is usually from October to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is the Drought Tolerant Maize for Africa project which also called DTMA. • 43. The Importance Of Language In Communication Language has an array of layers that generate and promote a vast degree of social and cultural interactions, contributing to the communications of humans in each aspect of their lives. As Vyvyan Evans (2014) states language is central to our lives, and is arguably the cultural tool that sets humans, us, apart from any other species . (p.1) Language has an indefinite list of rules, conventions and ideas that come together to create communications among humans across the world. When described, language can be defined as an object by it s various definitions which include the functions of language, material forms, language as a system, social semiotics, language variations and syntax in sentences among adults and children. The functions of language can be easily described as the use of language for a range of different reasons in order to talk, write, listen, read. (Halliday, 1985, p.1). These functions may be for personal, interpersonal, directive, referential and imaginative reasons. Personal may be expression of ones feelings, thoughts and ideas. Interpersonal would include discussion, social chat and sharing ideas or concerns, which may possibly occur in a work place or in general situations. Directive might be to influence the actions of others, which might occur in leadership roles. Referential is reporting actions or events. Finally, imaginative encompasses storytelling and problem solving. Theorists including Malinowski, Buhler, Britton and Morris categorised the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This act has three key points to it: to save lives, to meet the legal obligations that Canada has agreed too and lastly to offer a place of refuge. This act was made because of the Singh Decision. In 1985 Canada supreme court ruled that the 1976 immigration act was a violation of section 7 of The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms witch is the right to life, liberty and security of the person.
