JOB DESCRIPTION
• INTENSIVE CARE UNIT (ICU)
• Perform duties and tasks as per the Code of Conduct Agreement and Policy
• Actively participates in all quality and performance improvement activities
within the department/service and within the hospital as per the Quality
Improvement and Patient Safety Program.
• Actively participates in all of the education requirement and activities as per
the hospital education program
• Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient
care in accordance with established Policies and Guidelines; provides
guidance, direction and coordination for assigned personnel in activities
directed towards standards of patient care, safety and Infection Control.
• Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates individual patient care.
• Performs a variety of supportive and technical nursing skills and utilizes a
range of equipment, supplies, medications, treatments, monitoring techniques
and other diagnostic, therapeutic and supportive measures in carrying out
medical orders
• Initiates and perform a range of nursing measures based on patient needs
related to physical and mental comfort, positioning and mobilization,
nutrition and hydration, bowel and bladder elimination, care of skin and
wounds, support of respiration, hygiene, communication and other physical
and mental bodily functions as required.
• Establishes therapeutic relationships with patients/families and elicit their
participation in care.
• Assumes responsibility for quality of care delivered to patients
• Assesses patients’ needs and condition
• Collaborates with other health care team members in planning and providing
safe and comprehensive care.
• Performs procedures accurately, completely and safely according to hospital
policy
• Takes charge of the unit in the absence of the person responsible as required
or requested
• Undertakes the role of the primary care provider specific to defined patient
group
