Family Medical Leave Act
The Family Medical Leave Act The Family Medical Leave Act was passed in 1993 and updated in
2008 and 2009. The law requires employers with 50 or more employees to allow up to 12 weeks of
unpaid leave. The provision of the law would allow employees who have worked for one year and
have worked at least 1,250 hours to use the unpaid leavefor family or medical reasons (DeCenzo
267). It is important to note that the employee does not have to work for one year of continuous
service, any combination of weeks worked that equal to 52 weeks makes and employee eligible for
FMLA leave. If the employee has a break of seven years or longer, that time does not have to be
counted towards the 52 weeks (United States Dept of Labor, 2017). To count the... Show more

Employers must also provide a written general notice to employees, this can be done in the form
of a poster. The poster must be posted where all employees and applicants can see it. The poster
can be ordered thru the Department of Labor at no charge to the employer. Failure to post the
poster can result in a civil penalty of one hundred and sixty six dollars (United States Dept of
Labor, 2017). The employer must also print a notice in the employee handbook of FMLA
procedures and rights of the employee. If no handbook exists the employer must give written
notice to every new employee upon hire (United States Dept of Labor, 2017).
There are many different types of qualified leave under the FMLA law. Employees can use
family medical leave for the following reasons. The birth of a son or daughter, the placement of
a fostered or adopted son or daughter with the employee. To care for a spouse, son, daughter or
parent of the employee if they have a serious medical condition that requires doctors care. For the
employee if they have a serious medical condition that prevents them from performing their
position, and lastly if because of any qualifying exigency (as the Secretary shall, by regulation,

Force, Nameless Character
Use The Force, Nameless Character Originally released exclusively for the PC in 2011 as the
simply titled Q.U.B.E., Q.U.B.E: Director s Cut is the official re release of the game, this time
coming to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Wii U, and even iOS. The main
difference between the original and this remastered version is that this time Q.U.B.E. has a plot,
and though I think that it is utterly uncalled for, I still got to give the developers credit for some
good plot twists and what I suppose is a somewhat good/ok story. In Q.U.B.E., you can force push

There are multiple types of blocks, and whether or not they re interactive depends on their color,
which also determines the cube s function. From yellow stairs to blue bouncing cubes, going
through yellow elevators like parallelepipeds which really are just a group of cubes Q.U.B.E. has
them all, and you simply need these special gloves to control and manipulate every single one of
them. Most levels simply require you jumping from one cube to another in the right order, but
from time to time, the game will want to reward you for your hard work by providing the most
painful puzzles related to balls I ve seen to date, and that s saying a lot. The puzzles involve you
changing a learning terrain where a green sphere will fall in order for her to always go through
little doors, causing the doors and walls to open. It can get really tricky because it involves you
turning the walls, which block the ball and may even be entirely blacked out, making everything
invisible to the player. I m not complaining too much, however, because I found Q.U.B.E. to be
simple and easy to master. Having these little challenges from time to time is in no way

The Dutch Republic Downfall Essay
Within 1650 to 1713 the Dutch Republic underwent a formidable transformation, which changed its
status as a major influence in Europe. The Dutch Republic was a political union of seven provinces
that was not only an impressive banking and commercial capital, but the Dutch also had a great
navy as well. Additionally, the center of flourishment in the Dutch Republicwas Amsterdam, which
was the foremost trading and banking center in all of Europe. The changing environment of the late
seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries forced the Dutch Republicinto a position of conflict and
unbalance, which proved detrimental to their country as a whole. One of the first challenges to the
Dutch Republic dealt with military and how countries, such as... Show more content on

Additionally, another major conflict of militaristic means was against the English, in which
approximately 2,000 to 2,700 Dutch ships were seized by the English in the three Anglo Dutch
Wars, (Doc. 3). This document primarily showed that Dutch had major troubles with their security
to other foreign nations. England was the main competitors of the Dutch for trade during this time
period, and these seizing of ships made perfect sense if the English wanted to come out on top. For
example, these conflicts are shown on a map of the naval battles between the English and Dutch,
during the years 1652 1674, (Doc. 1). On the map the most battles occurred between the Dutch trade
route that went through waters close to England, which ended up being one of the biggest
challenges to the Dutch republic militarily. Marquis de Pamponne, French ambassador to the Dutch
Republic, reported to the French government that the wars between the English and Dutch were
primarily over trade and obtaining trade routes, (Doc. 11). This document was written by a foreign
opinion to the French government because the French were obviously curious about these conflicts
that were occurring. More importantly, this document showed trade routes were a major cause of
challenges on the military on the Dutch, which caused an increase

Essay on Salvation on Sand Mountain by Dennis Covington
Dennis Covington writes about a unique method of worship snake handling, in his memoir,
Salvation on Sand Mountain. He begins as a journalist, looking in on this foreign way of life;
however, as time progresses he increasing starts to feel a part of this lifestyle. As a result loses his
journalistic approach, resulting in his memoir, detailing his own spiritual journey. Upon the
conclusionof his stay in this world, Covington realizes the significance of this journey, and argues
in his memoir that we cannot entirely know ourselves until we step outside of our comfort zone
and separate ourselves from our norm. It is almost as if Covington was in a dream or some sort of

Allowing himself to be pulled into this world says a lot about the author s character: it is almost as
if he is vulnerable, and this vulnerability in some cases can be seen as a weakness. However, this
vulnerable act allowed him to find himself and strengthen his previous beliefs and attitude.
According to Aristotle, authors have an ethical obligation to have a strong ethos: this entails authors
to have intelligence, rectitude, and goodwill, and Covington expresses this throughout his entire
memoir. Even though, at the beginning he does not understand their behavior, and after he is
embarrassed and virtually kicked out of the society, he is able to write the truth about the handlers
with the utmost respect. Yes, he exposes many aspects of the handlers lives, but he does so in a
respectful and journalistic manner: it is clear that the information he divulges is essential to the
reader understanding the true meaning of his argument. The author does not purposely try to
portray these people in the best light possible, but rather the most ingenuous way. He demonstrates
his goodwill by remaining impartial during most of the memoir: occasionally he allows his
emotions to effect his depiction of the characters; however, this is almost impossible to achieve,
because he interacted with these people and was reacting to certain situations.
Covington writes this memoir for many reasons: he writes in order publicize this exclusive

Reye s syndrome was first discovered in 1963, however the connection to aspirin was not

are linked to this condition? Reye s syndrome is less common now because aspirin is no longer
recommended for children. However, according to the New England Journal of Medicine, it
likely becomes more common and prevalent during influenza outbreaks (Balay et al. 1999). Risk
factors include taking aspirin to treat a viral infection, such as an upper respiratory issue, chicken

Nighthawks By Edward Hopper Analysis
Nighthawks Displayed at the Art Institute of Chicago is Nighthawks, a 1942 oil painting by
Edward Hopper. The subject of Hopper s painting is an empty restaurant. The painting depicts a
late night scene. Inside the restaurant there are three customers and one worker. Many seats are
left open. The restaurant s light is all that illuminates the area. The outside streets and back
buildings are dark. The image leaves the viewer wondering what was Hopper s message? In this
paper, I will show that Hopper was trying to convey the message of loneliness the average person
deals with using the element and principle of design. Hopper use of space with the element of
design creates the illusion of loneliness. For example, the painting displays an open area. There
are empty streets, large windows, and many empty seats between the one person. There is also
the use of light in the restaurant that illuminates out just to the front of the street gives the look of
space. The light in the restaurant makes it look like the viewer is standing outside the building
looking inside. Behind the restaurant there are darker doorways and windows of other buildings.
The depth of the space is unknown due to the darkness. I feel that the darkness in the space can
show the sadness or uncertainty. Another element of design is color in this painting. The colors
are a good mixture of bright and dark hues. A good contrast to relay a message in his painting. The
men are in black. The color can

Essay On The Sound Of Letting Go
In the book, The Sound of Letting Go, Ward illustrates the average stress on a normal teenager s life
through chronological events. Teenagers today have experienced many factors through mass
amounts of stress and cause them to change or become deeply inserted into unnecessary
circumstances. Ward shows this great example through chronological events in the book.
In the beginning, we start to perceive the stress through Daisy s extracurricular activity. This is
called Jazz band, and although it takes up the majority of her time, this is a distraction from her
own household and a future dream job. She is one of the most superlative trumpets in the band,
and is called to perform several solos. However, her attitude towards the subject and hobby is not
always impeccable. While it soothes her brother, it pressures her when she isn t perfectly playing

Understanding and critically Evaluating Entry Modes of...
Business s choice of entry modes in international market and its advantages and disadvantages
Introduction Well known companies like Nike, Microsoft, Sony, Shell Group are just some of the
big companies that went global and expanded their trading around the world, they are large
businesses that operate internationally in many countries. Development of worldwide integration
urges companies to reach out international markets and interact with foreign customers. Businesses
focus on fulfilling the demand of the market by its products or services, besides their target is
increasing profit, in order achieve these goals they favor to expand their work in a foreign market.

How these modes were established and by whom will be defined in the following part. In 1977
Swedish researchers at Uppsala University came up with a model/theory how businesses should
grow their activities in foreign market, this model explains that companies should select an entry
mode by taking into consideration their own resources and exploring costs, and risks based on
market nature. (Johanson and Vahnle, 2009) Researchers at Uppsala University in their empirical
study found that Swedish firms mostly started their process of internationalization by exporting,
initially companies had agents that represented them in foreign market, but these firms exported in
countries that had little differentiation in culture, language and political systems from their home
country, this was labeled in their model as physically close countries. Uppsala Model considers
two types of knowledge objective and experience based knowledge, the model describes that after
first entrance in foreign market businesses understands how to work in external country, and later
they step by step increase level of internationalization to physically distant countries. (Johanson and
Vahnle, 2009) But, can Uppsala model be applied to services? This model was mainly reliable for
manufacturing industries; a paper with contrary arguments was published in 2008, providing two
variables; environment related and service specific, to question whether Uppsala model can be
used for service

An Evaluation Of A Uk Public Limited Manufacturing Company
Introduction
This report is an evaluation provided to a finance director of a UK public limited manufacturing
company, whose subsidiaries are around the world. The company s stock is trading on the London
Stock Exchange. The report is going to provide some information about working capital
management (WCM).
It is commonly known that working capital investment has become a large proportion in a firm s
balance sheet. According to Bank of Belgium, the proportion of accounts receivable, payment and
inventory were respectively 17%, 13% and 10% of total assets of all Belgian nonfinancial firms in
1997 (Deloof, 2003). There is a similar situation in Spanish firms: there is 69% current assets of
total assets and 52% current liabilities of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, firms may lose the early payment discount offered by its suppliers, which may
result in more finance costs (Wong, 2002).
Trade receivable: Trade receivable may boost sales because it allows customers to access product s
quality before paying. The flip side of trade receivable is that capital would be locked in working
capital, as a result the company s financial department may face cash flow and liquidity problems
(Jose, Lancaster and Stevens, 1996; Lazaridis and Tryfonidis, 2006).
Inventory: A larger inventory reduces the risk of stock out and it is also a vehicle to increase
sales. The negative side of inventory is the same as trade receivable (Nazir and Afza, 2009;
Deloof, 2003). Lazaridis and Tryfonidis (2006) states that an optimum level of inventory will have
a direct effect on profitability since it will release cash invested in working capital and could also
respond to a high demand.
The measurement of WC
Cash conversion cycle (CCC) is a widely used WC measurement, which is the time lag between
the raw material purchase and the collection of finished goods. The CCC can be calculated as:
The cash conversion cycle = Number of days accounts receivable + Number of days inventory
Number of days accounts payable payments. In real business operations, CCC as whole and each
parts of CCC could be used to measure the efficiency of WCM (Deloof, 2003; GarcГa Teruel and

David Brooks s Our Sprawling Supersize Utopia
David Berreby who is known as the author of It Takes a Tribe, was born in France in 1958. He
was raised by an American mother and a Jewish father. Berreby talks about the lifestyle of being
a college student in gaining a respectable position in the hierarchy of a college tradition within

Brooks was born and raised by his American citizen father in Canada. He made a claim on how
suburbs were sprawling and the lifestyles in this society are becoming complex for those people
who desire to expand their way of adapting and living in the different environment. Both authors
have the same similarities for advancing in a new way of living and as a group, people should
be addressed in fitting in a particular social society. As a human being, our ability to consider
something is extraordinary due to our needs and wants. Once people see that they ve been
divided into groups, they ll act accordingly, even if they know that the divisions are as
meaningless (Berreby 10). Is it necessary for us to divide ourselves according to who is better and
not? The group of people are frightened to speak on their own behalf and appoint an opinion, due

Summary Of Charles Dickens And Catherine Havisham
Every person has that one thing that they never want to lose, and many think that the way to
make sure it is always and forever theirs, is to become overly preoccupied and obsessed with the
object, or person, that they hold dear. In all reality, becoming this obsessed, with anything, will
just drive it away until it is eventually lost. Fictional characters are not prone to this mindset and
can easily become infatuated with a person or object, especially since their actions are at the
authors disposal. Both, Charles Dickens and Ronald Frame took advantage of this luxury and
were able to manipulate the characters as they pleased. While writing Havisham, Ronald Frame
was not permitted to put in as much imagination into the story since he was putting a twist on a
story that was already written, all he did was give his reader an inside look into the
transformation of Catherine Havisham. Frame clearly added information to Havisham s story
that readers could not have possibly pulled from Herbert Pocket s short explanation, but he also
kept true to her character that was previously developed by Dickens. Catherine Havisham, in both
novels, was a woman who was full of sorrow after being left at the altar. Frame took details that
Dickens wrote and elaborated on them, he told us that Catherine Havisham was raised without any
constant female figure in her life, due to the death of her mother and the exile Mr Havisham placed
on her grandmother: My father [...] was depriving me of an

Power Behind Dreamcatchers
Dreamcatchers are supposed to keep the bad dreams away. Little kids are given these when they
are young to keep the night terrors away. Most people don t even know their background or
origin. The lack of this knowledge leave people to believing in something less special than it could
be. It is important for them to realize the knowledge and power behind the dreamcatcher.
Dreamcatchers are made the way they are to let the positive dreams slip through the holes, to glide
down the feathers to the sleeping person below. Negative dreams would get caught in the web, and
got away when the first light from the sun hit the dreamcatcher. This is why you must have the
dream catcher above your bed at night. The hoop of the dreamcatcher is a symbol for strength and

west so this results in this part of the garden being warmer, because places facing the sun are

Precipitation levels change over my garden with site 1 collecting the most over that night with

in site 5 is mainly due to being under a gutter so all the precipitation would come down the gutter
here therefore we don t use this part of the garden much. Site 9 had the lowest precipitation
collected this is mainly because the precipitation doesn t collect in this location as most of it
would falls down onto the shed and collects there instead as this area doesn t get as much
precipitation the tables and chairs are permanently set up there so the tables don t get too wet if we
want to eat on them the next day and being metal the tables and chairs wont rust as much.
Others parts of my garden have varied microclimate. There was a large range of temperature in my

The Pros And Cons Of The Milky Way
E.T. phone home : this quote has been very popular for decades now (Verhoeven). Ever since
Steven Spielberg directed the movie E.T. in the 1980 s, this movie caused an up rise about extra

own planet. In addition, this caused xenophobes to start rising around the world. With many so

proof aliens exist? The Milky Wayin which we live in is expanding 3.25 million light years per

plants her another kiss and another kiss she can enjoy. The lust in this part of the story is the
dramatic first kiss for the young girl. She was walking in the dark and the boy of her dreams comes
out of no where and kisses her. Her response to the lust of the kiss was excitement, joy, and
curiosity of what would to come next. The boy s response to the kiss is basically I m older and I
can have whom ever I want and whenever I want. He has no feelings towards this girl whatsoever.
The young girl interpreted the kiss as he wanted to be with her and maybe start a relationship, but
on the other hand the young mans interpretation of the kiss was basically his role in the social
status meaning that he is the oldest which gives him the right to kiss her with no meaning behind
the kiss.
This story ends with the girl living with her mama in Puerto Rico and the young man still

Sustainable Tourism In Ugand Principles Of Sustainable...
1.Introduction
Sustainable tourism is a very important element today because it not only meets the needs of the
present but also protecting and increasing opportunities of destinations for the future. Uganda (M.
Semakula M. Kiwanuka, 2017) is a country located in east central Africa, which has diverse
ecosystems such as rainforest jungles, high volcanic mountains on the border or the Albert Nile
River swamps. However, for many years Uganda has stagnated progress and development due to
political problems, environmental degradation and the spread of AIDS epidemic. By the beginning
of the 21st century, Uganda has taken new steps in political stability and gradually resolved its
remaining problems and became Africa s fastest growing economy. This paper is going to discuss
about the key issues and challenges in managing Uganda in term of two principles of sustainable
development (responsibility and responsible citizenship) in context to sustainable host communities
and collaborative partnerships.
2.The key issues and challenges in managing
According to Michael Campbell (Director of University of Manitoba) (Youtube, 2013), the key
issues in Uganda are deforestation and disappearance of some wildlife. Deforestation is an
alarming situation in Uganda. Mr. Michael Campbell mentioned that he was a witness for change
in Uganda. During his first trip to Uganda he still saw rainforest from Mubende to Fort Portal, but
recent trips he saw many forests have been lost and replaced with

Economic Inequality, Inequality And Inequality
According to the OECD, the term inequality in the opposite of equity can be defined as evenness or
fairness within the social, political, and economic perspectives. Equity forms the core value of both
the western democratic tradition and religions. From the concept of equality, inequality can be
described as unfair or uneven treatments of the people within the society or unequal distribution of
resources, income, and other factors between different sectors in the society. Inequality can be
defined as the unfair or uneven conditions within the society, where some people control more
wealth, money, opportunities, income, as well as political favoritism than others (Stiglitz, 2013).
For some reasons, economists have included economic background of the people in the society as
another form of equality. Inequality comes in different forms: The different types of inequalities are
political inequality, inequality of outcome, economic inequality, Social inequality, and inequality of
opportunity (Clark 2015).
First, political inequality can be defined using either distributional or interdependency approaches.
With respect to distributional approach, political inequality is defined as structured differences
within the society in the acquisition and distribution of political resources. On the other hand,
interdependency approach defines this type of inequality as the influences that a person or persons
have on government legislation as compared to others (Stiglitz,

Compare Death Of A Moth By Annie Dillard
Death of a Moth There are stories that have been written that can be similar and different in many
ways. This can be seen through the story, Death of a Moth by Virginia Woolf and Annie Dillard.
Both writers share a similar topic, though their style of narration can compare and differ in many
ways. A theme throughout the story is death. Both authors take on a different view of death. While
death can be seen as a haunting experience or the end of a life. There are other interpretations that
can be made on this one topic. Both authors have twists in their stories with different ideas, which
aid to reveal their narration and expression regarding death.
Something both authors did similarly discuss the setting. Dillard was very specific with the
setting of the environment she is narrating from. She states, while warbler swung in the leaves
overhead and bristle worms trailed their inches over the twiggy dirt at my feet; and I read every
night by candlelight, while barred owls called in the forest and pale moths massed round my
head in the clearing (Dillard) She goes in depth to construe and give her readers the real
visualizing feeling that they are with her as she speaks. Similarly, Woolfe depicts her setting with
detail as well. She states, Presumably it was mid day, and work in the fields had stopped. Stillness
and quiet had replaced the previous animation. The birds had taken themselves off to feed in the
brooks. The horses stood still. Yet the power was there, all

What is science? What is natural science? What is social science? The following words were

through observation and/or predictions. Natural science is explained through the scientific method
which follows a particular series of seven steps. However, social science can t follow the scientific

human behaviour as it relates to society.
Natural science gathers information through cause and effect. Social science studies a specific

Samalan Christmas Religion
In Spain, Samana Santa is the most spectacular one week celebration of Easter that I have ever
seen. It is a week of celebration leading to Easter weekend. Although it is celebrated all over the
Spain, the one in Seville is one of the most elaborate ones. It is very normal to experience cultural
shock when living in a different country, but during this week, I experienced one of the greatest
cultural shocks. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the processions and learning about the history and
the reasoning behind them, I was shocked to see the costumes of the people who took part in the
religious processions. Samana Santa, known as the Holy Week in English, consists of religious
processions every day. It is a time when the devotees recognize and repent for their wrongdoings,
reflecting the fact that Jesus Christ died on the cross to save them. People from various
brotherhoods called the cofradias, participate in the processions. In Seville, there are 55... Show

After researching and talking to the Sevillanos, I found that the Nazarenos have been dressing like
this for more than 500 years, which is well before KKK originated. There is no defined link
between the two, but there is a possibility that one of the KKK members must have witnessed the
Samana Santa parade and gotten inspired by their costume. Unlike KKK, there is a very religious
reason behind why the Nazarenos dress up like that. Walking for about eight hours in the burning
sun, while wearing that costume is a sign of penance. They cover their faces in mourning and as a
sign that they are shameful for the sins that they have committed. On the morning of Easter Sunday,
they remove their head covers to mark the end of the mourning. After learning about the reason
behind this costume and the tradition associated with it, I think it is shame to associate this sacred

Reverse Gender Roles in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
The role gender holds in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is not one many were familiar with at the
time it was written. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz reverses the accepted gender roles of its time,
women taking control, even helping men in times of need. This idea is depicted throughout the
entire novel, affecting almost every character introduced. This novel essentially questions and
challenges the accepted beliefs on the roles of gender in the society at that time, showing how
things would be if roles were different. With this, through a description of the characters, you can
see who was empowered by Baum and who held an inferior role. In this novel, the women and the

She then gave Dorothy what she had been looking for throughout the entire novel, a way home,
something the Wizard failed to give her. Your Silver Shoes will carry you over the desert (Baum
133). Dorothy had the answer to her question the entire time, but she was meant to help all the
other characters along the way, really making her the heroine of the story. Two other women that
were empowered by Baum were the female stork and the Queen of Mice. The group came upon the
female stork when they were in trouble. The Scarecrow was stuck in the river, and the Tin Woodman
and the Lion were not able to save him. It seemed as if they had given up, until the Stork came
and offered her help to get him across. Then the Stork with her great claws grabbed the
Scarecrow by the arm and carried him up into the air and back to the bank... (Baum 47). She was
able to do something that the men were unable to do. Baum made her more powerful than them.
The Queen of Mice was also empowered by Baum, first off by just being a leader, as a woman, to
a large group. She also guided the group of mice to save the Lion from the poisonous field, which
the Tin Woodman and the Scarecrow could not do alone. With her help, their friend was saved.
Being that all the characters that were empowered were women, it is easy to see what aspects of
gender are questioned or challenged in this novel.

Waterproofing Myths
3 Myths About Basement Waterproofing
Homeowners with basements are well aware of the potential problems it has, which includes
flooding, mold, and mildew issues. Thankfully, there are several methods available to you for
basement waterproofing. Before you pick a method to use for your basement, it s important to
understand the truth behind the following 3 myths.
Damp Proofing Inside A Home Prevents Moisture From Seeping Inside
Tar is a great way to help keep your basement dry, but it will not completely eliminate moisture in a
basement. It s typical for homes to have a concrete or brick basement, which are materials that are
very porous. Rainwater can eventually seep into the concrete or bricks, which will cause
condensation to form.

It is important to repair cracks immediately instead of letting them get worse. Unfortunately, you
need to fix the parts of the crack that you can and cannot see if you want to fix it properly.
Otherwise, a patch over a visible crack is only a costly temporary fix.
You ll need a contractor to do exterior crack repair to ensure the problem is fixed properly. It s a
more involved repair process, since they will need to dig around your home to get access to the
basement s exterior walls. They will apply polymer material to the outside of the walls, which will
become a protective barrier against water and moisture, preventing it from getting inside.
Waterproofing Material Installed Under your Floor Prevents Dampness
Cracks can be very troubling in a basement, which is why some homeowners decide to have a
waterproof underlay installed underneath the surface of the basement floor. It works great for
places like a bathroom, since moisture is present and not very prevalent, but not so great for a
basement floor. The waterproof underlay isn t fool proof. While it can help prevent humidity from
building up, keeping your floor dry, it shouldn t be the only

Organizations can effectively use the intranet to achieve knowledge sharing within it. According to
Robertson (2004), the intranet can provide a dynamic living environment necessary for knowledge
sharing. This aspect is also supported by Averweg (2011) who states that knowledge management
involves the contribution of knowledgein organizations especially in the sharing of knowledge in
informal infrastructure, essentially through communities of structure. Organizations can enable this
through the acquisition of necessary infrastructure for the same. Essentially, the intranet contains
technology tools that support knowledge sharing.

People can place ideas on platforms and these will progressively be modified or rejected but
overall knowledge sharing is encouraged (Mpindiwa 2010). Cultural change is critical in the
effectiveness of the intranet as a knowledge management tool and organizations can achieve this
through the involvement of its staff in design and implementation of the platform, which will
promote the culture and drive to use the intranet and hence lead to better knowledge acquisition
(Oyekan 2007).
The intranet should be designed and tailored to provide for knowledge management needs. Here
technology can essentially be used on a push and pull basis where the push aspect of the technology
provides for the dissemination of information to the employees and the pull aspect enables the
obtaining of information from the same employees. The organizations can basically enable these
functions by obtaining the relevant infrastructure; this infrastructure can then utilize a standard
Internet browser for the platform on which the organization can perform its functions (Averweg
2008).
Overall, I believe that the intranet function should typically enable communication and
collaboration and organizations can achieve this through sending and reception of faxes, creating
discussion rooms as well as chat rooms. This can also be supported by the use of

A Research Study On Business Education
Running head: LEVERAGING RESEARCH TOENHANCE UNDERGRADUATE BUSINESS
EDUCATION1
Leveraging research to enhance undergraduate business education
Luke Maass
Northwest Missouri State University
Authors note
This paper was prepared for
Student involvement in research activities in U.S. business schools used to be primarily offered to
graduate students. However, many universities are now offering undergraduate research
opportunities that can provide students with a deep understanding of the academic environment.
Research allows the exploration and questioning of significant issues in today s world.
This type of learning can provide students with more understanding than can be taught in a
classroom or read in a textbook. Research challenges students to engage in the process of
identifying and evaluating major issues and trends impacting businesses and society. Students also
explore potential business implications that can drive innovation (The Boyer Commission). One
goal of business school research is to enhance the prestige of the business school where the
research is done. There is evidence that research does achieve that goal, as research has,
historically, been regarded as the primary determinant of a school s prestige (Armstrong, 1995:
103). For example, Business Week magazine has added a research influence measure in its ratings
of business schools. If a school scores highly on that measure, it enhances the overall prestige
ranking.

During the Holocaust, many townspeople didn t bother coming outside and sat as bystanders

The Task of Keeping a Driver Sober
There are many reasons people drink, however keeping a driver sober can be a monumental task.
Often times drunk driving ends grimly. Every 51 minutes on average, someone is killed in a

What Is The Theme Of The River By James W. Brown
Analytical essay on The river by James W. Brown
Raising a child can be done in various ways. Of course it depends on which gender your child is,
but overall it is pretty much the same. The best way to raise a child is to make sure that they respect
things around them. That they cannot go around behaving, as they want too. But, men have a thing
that they always want to learn their boys. Manhood. Manhood is something a boy needs. Manhood
is the thing that separates the boys from the men. It can be taught in many ways and some men
take their boys on survival trips. This is what a father does with his young boy in the short story
The river by James W. Brown written in 2009.
In the short story The river we hear about a father and a son on a trip. The father wants to teach
the son how to cross a strong river. Trying to make a manout of him. While trying to teach his son,
he makes some mistakes and it will make him pay a great price.
The short story The river takes place in a few places. We first hear about the father and his son
sitting in a car on the way, on their trip. Later we hear about them in the forest, of some kind,
while the father explains to his son how to get over the river. We hear about the father and the son,
but we do not hear that much about the mother. The only thing we hear about her is in line 18 20: At

How Does Elie Wiesel Use Dark Imagery In Night
In the book Night by Elie Wiesel, it shows the things that Elie went through in the concentration
camp. Elie uses dark imagery to show how physically miserable it was for them. Also, we are able
to see his perspective on how they were treated to the point all they felt was pain, and mostly what
he went through mentally and physically. In Night, the most crucial external conflict revolves
around the Nazi party which is shown through the perspective of Elie Wieseland his use of dark
imagery. The way it impacted the life of Elie because the Nazi party caused him more personal
problems like questioning if his father is worth being with, his relationship with God, if he
should still live, and in the end the way he saw himself was different. One way the conflict
develops is by Wiesel s use of dark imagery. In the text it states I no longer felt anything except
the lashes of the whip (Wiesel 57). This quote gives you an image of torture, shows how they were
treated by the Nazi party. By him saying I no longer felt anything it indicates that they treat them at

that it doesn t matter if it is your father, so Elie should only care for himself. This impacts Elie

Ueckerdt et al. (2013) define grid costs to be twofold. First is the transmission costs generated
because of the distance between power plants and load centres. Second, the fact that diversified
energy sources can prosper electricity supply is also a contributor to the increased re dispatch costs
as the result of congested grid.
In terms of transmission costs, such costs can vary to a great extent. Some power plants can be
far away from the load centres, which drives transmission costs relatively high. Conventional
power plants such as coal and gas can be less constrained to geographic location. However, for
those renewable energy (RE) plants such as off shore wind and PV ones which are highly
geographic oriented, it is a considerable proportion of the total cost that cannot be neglected.
When speaking of re dispatch costs, it is often concerned with congestion management. On the one
hand, the development of RE relieves the pressure of electricity supply due to constrained amount
of conventional energy and escalating consumptions. On the other hand, because of the nature of
randomness (or unpredictability) of RE, the electricity generation of RE especially PV and wind are
dominated by natural force which is hardly human manipulated. The electricity dispatch,
nevertheless, is the complicated systematic work based on historical consumptions and future
predictions. In this case, the RE generation can rarely correspond to

What does Tilley mean when he says, Hope is not faith. (16)
Hope is merely a component of faith. Hope is always about the future, faith is not. Hope and faith
have different levels of certitude.
What does Tilley mean when he says: Emotions may be fleeting; faith endures. (19)
Again, feelings are a mere component of faith, but not equivalent to faith. Feelings come and go but
faith remains.
What does Tilley mean when he says: Science versus religions is not an opposition of reason to

Summary Of The Allegory In Aesop s Three Fables
After reading all the fables in Aesop s Fables, There are three fables impresses me most. The first
one is The Mountain in Labor. Nevertheless, my opinion is different from that of the allegory. As
far as I m concerned, preparing well before a coming calamity is better than doing nothing and
just waiting. Taking the agitated mountain for example, loud groans and noises were heard from
the mountain in labor and crowds of people came from all parts to see what the matter was. The
mouse coming out of the mountain is the cause. Nevertheless, I think the people s behavior is
right and reasonable. What if they all had paid no attention to the strange mountain in labor?
Indeed, there is no calamity but just a mouse. However, what if there had been a disaster such as
earthquake? We cannot predict what will happen the next moment and we are not always lucky.
What we should do is to prepare well and act when there is an omen, but not just think that do not
make much ado about nothing. It is not a waste of time but protection for people against being
ruined. The fable reminds me of the earthquake which happened in Tangshan, Hebei about forty
years ago. Unlike the people living around the agitated mountain in the fable, people in Tangshan
paid no attention to the strange things such as the agitated livestock and the well appearing cracks
which were omens of the disaster in which a lot of people died in sleep. As far as I am concerned,
the people could have protected themselves from the earthquake if they had paid attention to the
obvious omens of the disaster. However, it is because they thoughtit did not matter that the
earthquake caused the death of so many people. There is no doubt that the death toll would have
been decreased if more people had attached importance to those obvious omens. That is to say, we
should learn that preparing and acting when an omen appears is better than doing nothing but just
waiting. The truth can also apply to our daily life. What will you do when you are faced with
some abnormal things in your life? Will you pay attention to them or do just like the word Don t
make much ado about nothing ? In my opinion, we should prepare regardless of the things
indicating what is likely to happen

The Value Of College Education
The mindset of young people today is that school is, above all, a chore rather than an opportunity
to grow and be free. Today s youth will complain about classes being too demanding, but at the
same time continue to complain because there are no enjoyable courses. Schools are intended to
create a space where students can feel comfortable and confident enough to learn what they need to
live successful lives. However, this is not the case, as many students growing up, seem to be less
passionate about their actual education, and instead, are centered on the overall effect that comes
from receiving a higher education. Since currently job security and financial prosperity have been
so heavily linked with a college education or degree, young adults are strongly encouraged to go to
university. This leads them to have a desperation in order to succeed to ensure that future employers
will be tended to hire them because of their supposed academic abilities. This would then contribute
to the conclusion that to ensure the success of young adults, educational institutions need students
to see the value in their work ethic and the institution at a young age to then later apply this
mentality into the continuation of their education.
Lynda Barry talks to her readers that the school environment has the ability to provide its students
with a space to escape personal problems, like unstable homes. She expresses her belief that without
these foundations many young people, like herself, would

(Adapted from Document Based Assessment for Global History, Walch Education)
Historical Context:
Even though the 1920 s began with a favorable outlook for peace, toward the end of the decade
and throughout the 1930 s the clouds of war were forming. Dictators arose in countries that were
dissatisfied with the results of World War I. Germany, Italy and Japan took aggressive actions, and
neither the League of Nations nor the democratic countries were able or willing to stop them. British
Prime Minister Chamberlain suggested the best way to deal with Hitler was a policy of
appeasement.

The Herbal And Dietary Supplement Market
INTRODUCTION Nutraceutical, a term derived from the words nutrition and pharmaceutical
refers to food or a constituent of the food which has been scientifically proven to provide health and
therapeutic benefits such as the prevention and treatment of a disease. The term was formulated by
Dr Stephen de Felice in 1989. Nutraceuticals have a role in maintaining and improving the
wellbeing and health of an individual as well as regulating immunity. Consequently preventing and
treating particular diseases (Chauhan et a.l, 2013). Nutraceuticals are found in a diverse group of
products coming forth from the food industry, the pharmaceutical industry, the herbal and dietary
supplement market. They are present in most of the food ingredients with varying concentration. A
diet rich in these along with regular exercise, stress reduction and maintainance of healthy body
weight will maximize health and reduce disease risks (Chaturvedi et al., 2011). Nutraceuticals are
on demand because medical science is now realising the importance of food in treatment and
prevention of diseases since regular consumption of synthetic drugs sometimes cause organ failure
and so many other effects. Again, consumers have the belief that food like substances are either
harmless or less toxic as compared to conventional drugs, furthermore nutraceuticals are cheaper
and are safe with regards to avoiding the side effects associated with drugs (Tapans et al., 2008).

Understanding Child Support
What is Child Support?
To convey the message that the financial support of parents in the lives of their children is vital,
Title IV D of the Social Security Act established the Federal Child Support program in 1975 which
exhibits how financial participation by both parents in the life of a child is essential and
encourages accountability amongst parents. An individual s understanding of Child Support is
shaped not only by their knowledge of its legal elements, but also by their personal opinions and
social environments. As a society, there are many varying views of child support, but the general
understanding of the program relates to the understanding of how child support works.
Child support stresses the importance of financial support of children and its foundation is based on
the legal theory that parents are responsible for the upbringing and providing of minimum

age of majority at which the child is then considered a young adult by the state.
Misconceptions about Child Support
There are several common misconceptions of child support that can impair one s understanding of
the child support program. First, the stigma exists that child support is for single mothers, this is
inaccurate and child support can be award to any individual determined an obligee (child support
recipient). While the custodial parent is the most common obligee an obligee can also be an
appointed guardian, caregiver, or government agency. Second, the belief that non custodial parents
are forced to pay child support. Child support can be entered into voluntarily, by court order or by

Shrek is a great example of a movie that makes use of computer graphics extremely well. The
movie Shrek is about a green ogre name Shrek who becomes friend with a talking donkey. In the

The Fundamental Law Of Nature And Government
In this essay I will be arguing that the prerogative is a right that is needed by the executive
branch in order to fulfill the fundamental law of nature and government: the preservation of all of
its members. So long as the fiduciary grant is meant to achieve this goal it has the right to be
exercised at the discretion of its user. This argument will discuss the nature of the prerogative, its
necessity, and its justification for use. This will be supported with evidence from Locke s Second
Treatise of Government. The prerogative is not an abusive instrument that is meant to subverts the
laws society; it is a tool meant to adhere with utmost urgency to the fundamental law of society:
doing what is best for the people and their property. It is meant to ensure that not even its own laws
can do harm to the citizens it so righteously protects. The enshrinement of this ideal is founded on
the social contractall members of civil society enter into when they become a part of society. This
contract is created from something as well; the law that governed man in its original state of
nature, reason. Locke asserts that man was born into the world in a perfect state of freedom to
order his own actions. He is capable of reciprocal jurisdiction without consent from any outside
influence. Abiding by the law of nature he came to find that all men were independent and equal
by divine will. Since God had created all men they would be his property, and thus all would be
held in the same

Major Worldviews
It s really cool to know from you! I m really happy that you are doing well in College and that you
are enjoying every part of it. The class that you are taking about Religion sounds really
interesting, I hope that as the semester goes by you learn new different things that may be
helpful to you whenever you find yourself in tough situations like the one you had with your
teacher. You may have noticed that there are many worldviews and it is alright if you don t
know about all of them, by the time that the class that you are taking finishes, you should be able
to know the difference between all of the major worldviews . But first of all, you need to know
what a worldview is in order to understand what the teacher is saying. A worldview is the way you

How Did Christianity Influence Medieval Literature
The Medieval Period was a time in history that lasted from the 5th Century to the 16th Century.
Medieval literature has been hugely influential in modern popular culture. During the middle Ages,
a great emphasis was placed on the combination of fantasy and reality. Though characters were
given human characteristics, their personalities transcended to those of fabricated figures as of
God, Saints, and brave leaders. The Middle English period features a host of firsts in English
literature, such as the first romance, drama, autobiography, fiction, and the first woman writer in
English history. That period was a gateway for cultural movement for later centuries such as the
Renaissance, Romanticism and so on. Furthermore, there was a great influence of Christianity on
the literature since Christianity was only religion at that time. Positive impact in literature was
very notable by the presence of Christianity. Middle age shows how the romance of medieval
England engages with its Christin culture. Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and Malory s Morte
Darthur, establishes the importance of reading romances and culture represented by Christianity.
Heroism, loyalty, personal honor and chivalry were addressed in this period by every author.
Nature and status of women was one of the challenging parts for the medieval period. At... Show

at age fifty nine due to severe depression.
One of Virginia Woolfs most well known novels The Death of the Moth is very unique. Woolf was
distracted by a moth that was fluttering around her house and explained how it failed at its life
purpose then died. I think she was an incredible author because so many thoughts and ideas flew

  • 2. Family Medical Leave Act The Family Medical Leave Act The Family Medical Leave Act was passed in 1993 and updated in 2008 and 2009. The law requires employers with 50 or more employees to allow up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave. The provision of the law would allow employees who have worked for one year and have worked at least 1,250 hours to use the unpaid leavefor family or medical reasons (DeCenzo 267). It is important to note that the employee does not have to work for one year of continuous service, any combination of weeks worked that equal to 52 weeks makes and employee eligible for FMLA leave. If the employee has a break of seven years or longer, that time does not have to be counted towards the 52 weeks (United States Dept of Labor, 2017). To count the... The poster must be posted where all employees and applicants can see it. The poster can be ordered thru the Department of Labor at no charge to the employer. Failure to post the poster can result in a civil penalty of one hundred and sixty six dollars (United States Dept of Labor, 2017). The employer must also print a notice in the employee handbook of FMLA procedures and rights of the employee. If no handbook exists the employer must give written notice to every new employee upon hire (United States Dept of Labor, 2017). There are many different types of qualified leave under the FMLA law. Employees can use family medical leave for the following reasons. The birth of a son or daughter, the placement of a fostered or adopted son or daughter with the employee. To care for a spouse, son, daughter or parent of the employee if they have a serious medical condition that requires doctors care. For the employee if they have a serious medical condition that prevents them from performing their position, and lastly if because of any qualifying exigency (as the Secretary shall, by regulation, determine) arising out of the fact that the spouse, or a son, daughter, or parent of the employee is on covered active duty (or has been notified of an impending call or order to covered active duty) in the Armed ... • 3. Force, Nameless Character Use The Force, Nameless Character Originally released exclusively for the PC in 2011 as the simply titled Q.U.B.E., Q.U.B.E: Director s Cut is the official re release of the game, this time coming to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Wii U, and even iOS. The main difference between the original and this remastered version is that this time Q.U.B.E. has a plot, and though I think that it is utterly uncalled for, I still got to give the developers credit for some good plot twists and what I suppose is a somewhat good/ok story. There are multiple types of blocks, and whether or not they re interactive depends on their color, which also determines the cube s function. From yellow stairs to blue bouncing cubes, going through yellow elevators like parallelepipeds which really are just a group of cubes Q.U.B.E. has them all, and you simply need these special gloves to control and manipulate every single one of them. Most levels simply require you jumping from one cube to another in the right order, but from time to time, the game will want to reward you for your hard work by providing the most painful puzzles related to balls I ve seen to date, and that s saying a lot. The puzzles involve you changing a learning terrain where a green sphere will fall in order for her to always go through little doors, causing the doors and walls to open. It can get really tricky because it involves you turning the walls, which block the ball and may even be entirely blacked out, making everything invisible to the player. I m not complaining too much, however, because I found Q.U.B.E. to be simple and easy to master. Having these little challenges from time to time is in no way ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Dutch Republic Downfall Essay Within 1650 to 1713 the Dutch Republic underwent a formidable transformation, which changed its status as a major influence in Europe. The Dutch Republic was a political union of seven provinces that was not only an impressive banking and commercial capital, but the Dutch also had a great navy as well. Additionally, the center of flourishment in the Dutch Republicwas Amsterdam, which was the foremost trading and banking center in all of Europe. The changing environment of the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries forced the Dutch Republicinto a position of conflict and unbalance, which proved detrimental to their country as a whole. Additionally, another major conflict of militaristic means was against the English, in which approximately 2,000 to 2,700 Dutch ships were seized by the English in the three Anglo Dutch Wars, (Doc. 3). This document primarily showed that Dutch had major troubles with their security to other foreign nations. England was the main competitors of the Dutch for trade during this time period, and these seizing of ships made perfect sense if the English wanted to come out on top. For example, these conflicts are shown on a map of the naval battles between the English and Dutch, during the years 1652 1674, (Doc. 1). On the map the most battles occurred between the Dutch trade route that went through waters close to England, which ended up being one of the biggest challenges to the Dutch republic militarily. Marquis de Pamponne, French ambassador to the Dutch Republic, reported to the French government that the wars between the English and Dutch were primarily over trade and obtaining trade routes, (Doc. 11). This document was written by a foreign opinion to the French government because the French were obviously curious about these conflicts that were occurring. More importantly, this document showed trade routes were a major cause of challenges on the military on the Dutch, which caused an increase ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He begins as a journalist, looking in on this foreign way of life; however, as time progresses he increasing starts to feel a part of this lifestyle. As a result loses his journalistic approach, resulting in his memoir, detailing his own spiritual journey. Upon the conclusionof his stay in this world, Covington realizes the significance of this journey, and argues in his memoir that we cannot entirely know ourselves until we step outside of our comfort zone and separate ourselves from our norm. Allowing himself to be pulled into this world says a lot about the author s character: it is almost as if he is vulnerable, and this vulnerability in some cases can be seen as a weakness. However, this vulnerable act allowed him to find himself and strengthen his previous beliefs and attitude. According to Aristotle, authors have an ethical obligation to have a strong ethos: this entails authors to have intelligence, rectitude, and goodwill, and Covington expresses this throughout his entire memoir. Even though, at the beginning he does not understand their behavior, and after he is embarrassed and virtually kicked out of the society, he is able to write the truth about the handlers with the utmost respect. Yes, he exposes many aspects of the handlers lives, but he does so in a respectful and journalistic manner: it is clear that the information he divulges is essential to the reader understanding the true meaning of his argument. The author does not purposely try to portray these people in the best light possible, but rather the most ingenuous way. He demonstrates his goodwill by remaining impartial during most of the memoir: occasionally he allows his emotions to effect his depiction of the characters; however, this is almost impossible to achieve, because he interacted with these people and was reacting to certain situations. Covington writes this memoir for many reasons: he writes in order publicize this exclusive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Nighthawks By Edward Hopper Analysis Nighthawks Displayed at the Art Institute of Chicago is Nighthawks, a 1942 oil painting by Edward Hopper. The subject of Hopper s painting is an empty restaurant. The painting depicts a late night scene. Inside the restaurant there are three customers and one worker. Many seats are left open. The restaurant s light is all that illuminates the area. The outside streets and back buildings are dark. The image leaves the viewer wondering what was Hopper s message? In this paper, I will show that Hopper was trying to convey the message of loneliness the average person deals with using the element and principle of design. Hopper use of space with the element of design creates the illusion of loneliness. For example, the painting displays an open area. There are empty streets, large windows, and many empty seats between the one person. There is also the use of light in the restaurant that illuminates out just to the front of the street gives the look of space. The light in the restaurant makes it look like the viewer is standing outside the building looking inside. Behind the restaurant there are darker doorways and windows of other buildings. The depth of the space is unknown due to the darkness. I feel that the darkness in the space can show the sadness or uncertainty. Another element of design is color in this painting. The colors are a good mixture of bright and dark hues. A good contrast to relay a message in his painting. The men are in black. The color can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1977 Swedish researchers at Uppsala University came up with a model/theory how businesses should grow their activities in foreign market, this model explains that companies should select an entry mode by taking into consideration their own resources and exploring costs, and risks based on market nature. (Johanson and Vahnle, 2009) Researchers at Uppsala University in their empirical study found that Swedish firms mostly started their process of internationalization by exporting, initially companies had agents that represented them in foreign market, but these firms exported in countries that had little differentiation in culture, language and political systems from their home country, this was labeled in their model as physically close countries. Uppsala Model considers two types of knowledge objective and experience based knowledge, the model describes that after first entrance in foreign market businesses understands how to work in external country, and later they step by step increase level of internationalization to physically distant countries. (Johanson and Vahnle, 2009) But, can Uppsala model be applied to services? It is commonly known that working capital investment has become a large proportion in a firm s balance sheet. According to Bank of Belgium, the proportion of accounts receivable, payment and inventory were respectively 17%, 13% and 10% of total assets of all Belgian nonfinancial firms in 1997 (Deloof, 2003). On the other hand, firms may lose the early payment discount offered by its suppliers, which may result in more finance costs (Wong, 2002). Trade receivable: Trade receivable may boost sales because it allows customers to access product s quality before paying. The flip side of trade receivable is that capital would be locked in working capital, as a result the company s financial department may face cash flow and liquidity problems (Jose, Lancaster and Stevens, 1996; Lazaridis and Tryfonidis, 2006). Inventory: A larger inventory reduces the risk of stock out and it is also a vehicle to increase sales. The negative side of inventory is the same as trade receivable (Nazir and Afza, 2009; Deloof, 2003). Lazaridis and Tryfonidis (2006) states that an optimum level of inventory will have a direct effect on profitability since it will release cash invested in working capital and could also respond to a high demand. The measurement of WC Cash conversion cycle (CCC) is a widely used WC measurement, which is the time lag between the raw material purchase and the collection of finished goods. The CCC can be calculated as: The cash conversion cycle = Number of days accounts receivable + Number of days inventory Number of days accounts payable payments. • 12. Summary Of Charles Dickens And Catherine Havisham Every person has that one thing that they never want to lose, and many think that the way to make sure it is always and forever theirs, is to become overly preoccupied and obsessed with the object, or person, that they hold dear. In all reality, becoming this obsessed, with anything, will just drive it away until it is eventually lost. Fictional characters are not prone to this mindset and can easily become infatuated with a person or object, especially since their actions are at the authors disposal. Both, Charles Dickens and Ronald Frame took advantage of this luxury and were able to manipulate the characters as they pleased. While writing Havisham, Ronald Frame was not permitted to put in as much imagination into the story since he was putting a twist on a story that was already written, all he did was give his reader an inside look into the transformation of Catherine Havisham. Frame clearly added information to Havisham s story that readers could not have possibly pulled from Herbert Pocket s short explanation, but he also kept true to her character that was previously developed by Dickens. Catherine Havisham, in both novels, was a woman who was full of sorrow after being left at the altar. Frame took details that Dickens wrote and elaborated on them, he told us that Catherine Havisham was raised without any constant female figure in her life, due to the death of her mother and the exile Mr Havisham placed on her grandmother: My father [...] was depriving me of an ... • 32. A Research Study On Business Education Running head: LEVERAGING RESEARCH TOENHANCE UNDERGRADUATE BUSINESS EDUCATION1 Leveraging research to enhance undergraduate business education Luke Maass Northwest Missouri State University Authors note This paper was prepared for Student involvement in research activities in U.S. business schools used to be primarily offered to graduate students. However, many universities are now offering undergraduate research opportunities that can provide students with a deep understanding of the academic environment. Research allows the exploration and questioning of significant issues in today s world. This type of learning can provide students with more understanding than can be taught in a classroom or read in a textbook. Research challenges students to engage in the process of identifying and evaluating major issues and trends impacting businesses and society. Students also explore potential business implications that can drive innovation (The Boyer Commission). One goal of business school research is to enhance the prestige of the business school where the research is done. There is evidence that research does achieve that goal, as research has, historically, been regarded as the primary determinant of a school s prestige (Armstrong, 1995: 103). For example, Business Week magazine has added a research influence measure in its ratings of business schools. If a school scores highly on that measure, it enhances the overall prestige ranking. ... Of course it depends on which gender your child is, but overall it is pretty much the same. The best way to raise a child is to make sure that they respect things around them. That they cannot go around behaving, as they want too. But, men have a thing that they always want to learn their boys. Manhood. Manhood is something a boy needs. Manhood is the thing that separates the boys from the men. It can be taught in many ways and some men take their boys on survival trips. This is what a father does with his young boy in the short story The river by James W. Brown written in 2009. In the short story The river we hear about a father and a son on a trip. The father wants to teach the son how to cross a strong river. Trying to make a manout of him. While trying to teach his son, he makes some mistakes and it will make him pay a great price. The short story The river takes place in a few places. We first hear about the father and his son sitting in a car on the way, on their trip. Later we hear about them in the forest, of some kind, while the father explains to his son how to get over the river. Elie uses dark imagery to show how physically miserable it was for them. Also, we are able to see his perspective on how they were treated to the point all they felt was pain, and mostly what he went through mentally and physically. In Night, the most crucial external conflict revolves around the Nazi party which is shown through the perspective of Elie Wieseland his use of dark imagery. The way it impacted the life of Elie because the Nazi party caused him more personal problems like questioning if his father is worth being with, his relationship with God, if he should still live, and in the end the way he saw himself was different. One way the conflict develops is by Wiesel s use of dark imagery. In the text it states I no longer felt anything except the lashes of the whip (Wiesel 57). This quote gives you an image of torture, shows how they were treated by the Nazi party. This quote shows that it doesn t matter if it is your father, so Elie should only care for himself. This impacts Elie because he loves his father, you should love your father. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ueckerdt et al. (2013) define grid costs to be twofold. First is the transmission costs generated because of the distance between power plants and load centres. Second, the fact that diversified energy sources can prosper electricity supply is also a contributor to the increased re dispatch costs as the result of congested grid. In terms of transmission costs, such costs can vary to a great extent. Some power plants can be far away from the load centres, which drives transmission costs relatively high. Conventional power plants such as coal and gas can be less constrained to geographic location. However, for those renewable energy (RE) plants such as off shore wind and PV ones which are highly geographic oriented, it is a considerable proportion of the total cost that cannot be neglected. When speaking of re dispatch costs, it is often concerned with congestion management. On the one hand, the development of RE relieves the pressure of electricity supply due to constrained amount of conventional energy and escalating consumptions. On the other hand, because of the nature of randomness (or unpredictability) of RE, the electricity generation of RE especially PV and wind are dominated by natural force which is hardly human manipulated. The electricity dispatch, nevertheless, is the complicated systematic work based on historical consumptions and future predictions. In this case, the RE generation can rarely correspond to ... • 41. Summary Of The Allegory In Aesop s Three Fables After reading all the fables in Aesop s Fables, There are three fables impresses me most. The first one is The Mountain in Labor. Nevertheless, my opinion is different from that of the allegory. As far as I m concerned, preparing well before a coming calamity is better than doing nothing and just waiting. Taking the agitated mountain for example, loud groans and noises were heard from the mountain in labor and crowds of people came from all parts to see what the matter was. The mouse coming out of the mountain is the cause. Nevertheless, I think the people s behavior is right and reasonable. What if they all had paid no attention to the strange mountain in labor? Indeed, there is no calamity but just a mouse. However, what if there had been a disaster such as earthquake? We cannot predict what will happen the next moment and we are not always lucky. What we should do is to prepare well and act when there is an omen, but not just think that do not make much ado about nothing. It is not a waste of time but protection for people against being ruined. The fable reminds me of the earthquake which happened in Tangshan, Hebei about forty years ago. Unlike the people living around the agitated mountain in the fable, people in Tangshan paid no attention to the strange things such as the agitated livestock and the well appearing cracks which were omens of the disaster in which a lot of people died in sleep. As far as I am concerned, the people could have protected themselves from the earthquake if they had paid attention to the obvious omens of the disaster. However, it is because they thoughtit did not matter that the earthquake caused the death of so many people. There is no doubt that the death toll would have been decreased if more people had attached importance to those obvious omens. That is to say, we should learn that preparing and acting when an omen appears is better than doing nothing but just waiting. The truth can also apply to our daily life. What will you do when you are faced with some abnormal things in your life? Will you pay attention to them or do just like the word Don t make much ado about nothing ? In my opinion, we should prepare regardless of the things indicating what is likely to happen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Today s youth will complain about classes being too demanding, but at the same time continue to complain because there are no enjoyable courses. Schools are intended to create a space where students can feel comfortable and confident enough to learn what they need to live successful lives. However, this is not the case, as many students growing up, seem to be less passionate about their actual education, and instead, are centered on the overall effect that comes from receiving a higher education. Since currently job security and financial prosperity have been so heavily linked with a college education or degree, young adults are strongly encouraged to go to university. This leads them to have a desperation in order to succeed to ensure that future employers will be tended to hire them because of their supposed academic abilities. This would then contribute to the conclusion that to ensure the success of young adults, educational institutions need students to see the value in their work ethic and the institution at a young age to then later apply this mentality into the continuation of their education. Lynda Barry talks to her readers that the school environment has the ability to provide its students with a space to escape personal problems, like unstable homes. • 50. The Fundamental Law Of Nature And Government In this essay I will be arguing that the prerogative is a right that is needed by the executive branch in order to fulfill the fundamental law of nature and government: the preservation of all of its members. So long as the fiduciary grant is meant to achieve this goal it has the right to be exercised at the discretion of its user. This argument will discuss the nature of the prerogative, its necessity, and its justification for use. This will be supported with evidence from Locke s Second Treatise of Government. The prerogative is not an abusive instrument that is meant to subverts the laws society; it is a tool meant to adhere with utmost urgency to the fundamental law of society: doing what is best for the people and their property. It is meant to ensure that not even its own laws can do harm to the citizens it so righteously protects. The enshrinement of this ideal is founded on the social contractall members of civil society enter into when they become a part of society. This contract is created from something as well; the law that governed man in its original state of nature, reason. Locke asserts that man was born into the world in a perfect state of freedom to order his own actions. He is capable of reciprocal jurisdiction without consent from any outside influence.
