DEFINITION
The goal of research proposal is to present and
justify the need to study a research problem and to
present the practical ways in which the proposed
study should be conducted.
They must provide persuasive evidence that a
need exists for the proposal study
Most research proposals are between 4 & 15
pages.
TITLE
 It should be concise and descriptive.
Readers should know what to expect
from the proposal
Avoid phrases in title.
Think of an informative and catchy titlee
TITLE PAGE
It introduces the title of the proposal, name and the primary institution
of the person.
Includes pg.no in upper right corner
Centre the full title of the proposal roughly 1/3 down the page. Double
space it, and immediately below the title, insert your name. Below
your name , list the institution you are affiliated with and the names
and affiliations of any co-investigators your are working with.
Sometimes state you personal data.
You may also want to give a realistic time frame in which you plan to
complete your project.
ABSTRACT
It is a summary of the research problem
It should be short and precise
Proposed solution and objectives should also be included along
with your projected funding requirements.
Centre the word abstract at the top of the page
Begin the text of your abstract directly below the word
Abstract
It must contain words between 150 & 250 .
KEYWORDS
Choose 4-5 keywords that capture the main points of your
paper, suggesting what the topic is about.
It should be phrases that many readers might be searching
for.
Eg: If your proposal is about heart diseases, use phrases like
blood, heart attack etc.,
TABLE OF CONTENTS
Longer research proposals often include a table of
contents on the third page listing each major section of
your paper.
Leaving table of contents is common.
Especially long proposals may also need a list of
illustrations, figures or tables.
INTRODUCTION
The main purpose of the introduction is to provide the
necessary background or context for your research problem
It should contain “Statement of problem” , “ Purpose of
Research” and “Significance of Research” or “Background
and significance sections.
Restate and centre the title of your paper. Include a quick note
about the topic being discussed and a definition of the theory
from which your proposed research will be based.
Statement of Problem – Write about why does
this research need to be conducted and what new
issues does this research raise?
Purpose of study – Identify the goal of the study
in one precise terms.
Significance of Research – Answer why the area
of research is important and identify the type of
research or analysis proposed.
PROVIDE BACKGROUND IN THE
INTRODUCTION
Identify the research problem and show why the work needs to
be continued.
You can break this section into multiple sections as Research
Question or Research hypothesis can be explained.
Definition of terms – define the central ideas that will be
utilized in the proposed research.
LITERATURE REVIEW
It shows the awareness of current and past research
about the topic.
It should be like a sum up existing research in a
story like manner.
Important 5 C’s to be checked are Cite, Compare ,
Contrast, Critique and Connect.
RESEARCH DESIGN & METHODS
It is the heart of the proposal.
It provides a complete explanation of your
proposed research
This can also be titled as Methodology
It also includes the information about the sample.
It can also be sub sectioned as Research Design,
Instrumentation, Data collection and Analysis procedures
It must demonstrate your knowledge of alternative
methods, while making the case that your approach is the
most effective way to tackle your research question.
It should be realistic, clear about your focus & explicit
about everything the research relies on.
It will also provide about work plan and also the
activities necessary for completion of the project.
INSTITUTIONAL
RESOURCES
It includes the information like
institution’s past competence or
contribution within the field of research.
TENTATIVE TIMETABLE
Estimated timetable indicating the sequence
of research phases and the time that you will
probably need for each phase.
Give the information about the timespan that
will be needed for each step.
BUDGET
Indicate the anticipated costs you need the
funding source to meet and specify items being
paid for by other funding sources.
Each cost should include justifying
information.
CONCLUSION
We need to give some idea about what kind of data
will be collected and what stastical procedures will
be used in order to answer your research question.
It says the importance or significance of your
proposal and provides a brief summary of the entire
study.
REFERENCES
Give all the references which you referred.
Also you can give your reference of your
own recent publications if possible.
