1970 s Music Videos
Back in the 1970 s music videos were already able to be produced by record companies and were
being used in promotional sites. This was thanks to technology that was created in the 1950 s by
French artists (Serge Gainsbourg, François Hardy, Jacques Dutronc) . They had created a
machine called the Cine box that would allow them to play a short film and a tape recording. The
videos they created were the beginnings of the music video that even involved lip syncing. Their
technology became more popular and advanced as it was used throughout the 60 s and so on by
popular bands and musicians. When the 70 s arrived people had already begun to insert short songs
throughout many films and from then on the music video continued

Special Interest
Define an interest group with examples. Interest group usually a voluntary organization where
members share a common interest in which they seek to influence public policy, without seeking
political control. They have primary activities such as lobbying the members of the legislative
bodies through contributions to political parties, trying to elect sympathetic or pliable politicians,
and by conducting covert or open propaganda campaigns. (Interest Groups, n.d.) There are a few
different types of interest groups and they are as follows:
Economic Interest Groups This is the largest category that includes organizations that represent big
businesses, such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers

(1) They seek to win elections or electoral positions; (2) they reorganize around those periodic
elections and then may become less active, and (3) they depend on the local mobilization of voters
who support political candidates but not necessarily the party organization. Interest groups are more
issue oriented, are continuously maintained, and are dependent on supporters who identify with
their organization. (Browne, n.d.) One thing that differentiates political parties from interest groups
arises from the nature of the political system in which they operate and from the various electoral
rules and structures that exist in different countries. In corporatist societies, interest groups may be
invited to participate in government decisions to the exclusion of competitor interests. In
parliamentary system, a party may have a narrow base and may try to win only a small number of
legislative seats. (Browne, n.d.)
Explain how interest groups try to influence the president and Congress as these two branches work
together to make policy. Trying to persuade government officials through direct inside contact is
called the inside game. Lobbying is another term for inside game. Lobbyists normally work for a
specific interest group, corporation, or law firm that specializes in professional lobbying. (Interest
Groups, 2012) Lobbying originates from the way interest groups played the inside games in the

My Day At High School
The idea came upon me late on a Sunday night in early February. An idea that me and my
buddies from high school need one last get together before the end of the semester. Yes, the end
of the semester is not for another 2 months, but many of my friends go to a variety of different
colleges which means many different weeks of spring break. I realized that this would be our last
chance together so let s go home this weekend and get together. We ran with the idea. We all found
ways back home and our plan was to get together that Friday night. I looked forward to that
Friday night all week, but when that Friday night came it was all ruined by a guy that would do
anything to never be unfair to someone on purpose. On February 7th around 8 o clock or so me
and my roommates were eating dinner discussing spring break. We talked about when our spring
break was and how it was going to be way different since many of our buddies go to different
colleges and have separate spring break dates. As we talked dates I realized that our spring break
was a week before all my other buddies spring breaks were. This is the reason upon deciding to
have a get together later that week. I immediately sent out a text to one of my good buddies
Jackson. Jackson has a garage that is fully renovated therefore it is our primary hang out spot.
We talked about if it was a good idea and if we could stay in the garage that Friday night. All went
well that entire week. Me and my five other buddies all found

James Whitman Vision Analysis
We made it to Whitman Mission. It s burned down and there is nothing left. Literally everything
is burned down. We met a family and they told us to go Fort Vancouver for supplies and then go to
Oregon City but we decided to just travel the rest of the way to Oregon City without stopping. We
leave for Oregon City today and we will get there in a few days. Betsy is sick once again and
running low on energy. We finally make it about halfway and we get to The Dalles. It s a nice
place but now we got to go on the Barlow Road. It is pretty dumb but we have to pay a toll to use
this road too. It came out as 2.80 total but we can t spend much so instead we pay 1 dollar and we
trade a cow. We take the road but it is very steep and Juan s horse got

Jazz Messenger Art Blakey
In the same way as other admired jazz artists, the drummer Art Blakey held tight sufficiently long to
see his way to deal with music return into style.
A main drummer of the post World War II bop style exemplified by Charlie Parker, Blakey was
better known for his authority of his Jazz Messengers, one of the longest running and reliably
superb gatherings in jazz. The street to incredible status was twisting, in any case. Shunning the
vanguard, Blakey was overlooked by jazz faultfinders in the trial 1960s and disregarded by
American groups of onlookers in the 1970s, when rock applied its hegemonic control over the
matter of popular music. Not able to land a U.S. recording contract, he discharged various
collections for European names in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Putting aside his neo bop style, which he spearheaded, Blakey took in band individuals whose
tastes were unequivocally more pop than jazz. Throw Mangione s minimal known stay in the
Messengers trumpet seat was maybe a definitive impression of the breakdown in the social
concensus about the components of true jazz. Yet for Blakey afficianados, the 1970s have much to
offer, as another re issue from Fantasy Records illustrates. Mission Eternal contains two full
collections recorded by a heavenly Blakey band in March 1973 and initially discharged by the
Prestige mark under the titles of Buhaina and Athenagin. A cut underneath Blakey s best recordings
of the 1960s, these collections by and by demonstrate a familiarity with the cutting edge, a desire
for Latin beats and roused exhibitions by solid sidemen. Cedar Walton stays the gathering on piano
and contributes some solid organizations, outstandingly Mission Eternal. Carter Jefferson, an
innovative saxophonist who merits more extensive thankfulness, strikes a decent harmony between
constancy to models and the unavoidable quest for new sounds. His performance on Gertrude s
Bounce is brutish yet melodic. Vocalist Jon Hendricks, who joins the gathering on two cuts, is
hypnotizing on the jazz standard Moanin and spooky on Along Came

The St. Francis Xavier Secondary School Deca
The St. Francis Xavier Secondary School DECA Chapter advocated and fundraised for the leading
cause for over 3 million child deaths annually: malnutrition. The campaign, entitled
Mission4Malnutrition (M4M) , is a not for profit campaign which is dedicated to eliminating
hunger within impoverished communities internationally. It strives to bring awareness to
malnutrition, which can be defined as the lack of sufficient nutrients which are normally obtained
through food. There are countless consequences of malnourishment, including deteriorating
immunity, susceptibility to rare illnesses, as well as the physical inability to attend school. In order
to eradicate malnutrition as well as its detrimental effects, M4M has partnered with two charities:
Sharelife Canada and ACF International.
ACF International is a global organization which is devoted to eliminating world hunger and
providing lifesaving treatment, especially for amongst children. This charity is currently executing
a not for profit campaign, entitled Action Against Hunger . This campaign provides impoverished
communities with RUTF (ready to use therapeutic foods), as well as lifesaving treatment to
alleviate the detrimental effects of malnourishment. Through donations and sponsors, their main

Iconography Of Virgin Mary
The iconography contained in this painting is religious for the most obvious reasons such as the
depiction of the Virgin Mary, baby Jesus, along with the angel holding the Virgin s crown. Also,
the capitals that are shown on the left include scenes from the Old Testament which highlight
humanity errors. Some of the errors that are depicted are Adam and Eve getting thrown out from
the Garden of Eden, the sacrifice of Caine and Abel, God receiving Abel s offering, along with
other scenes. Another reason why there is religious iconography can be seen between the positions
of the individuals who are being portrayed. For example, the chancellor appears to be kneeling
down towards baby Jesusand the Virgin Mary, on one side of the painting you have sacred figures
and on the left side you have the chancellor representing the public.... Show more content on

Needed. That is just one of the many words that pop into my mind when I hear the word
Confederation. My fellow fathers of confederation as many of you may already know I am
John. A. Macdonald and I am very much in favor of confederation. When I was just a little boy I
moved from Scotland to amazing Canada West. That is who I am here representing. Since a
young boy I have always thought that Confederation would be a great idea. I have over the years
realized what this would bring to all of us. My fellow colonies of Nova Scotia New Brunswick and
Prince Edward IslandI will tell you today in beautiful Charlottetown P.E.I why I believe so much
in confederation. I will change any doubters to believers of confederation. Today will change
history for the next generations to come, that is your children and all their children to come. One
vote could change everything. It can take us a long way.
Advantages to every colony is what confederation will bring. The first thing that is great is that
we can build a connecting railway from colony to colony, wouldn t that be great, my fellow
friends. What is so great about that you may ask. Every winter the St. Lawrence freezes, we can
t take the chance of falling through, why not build a connecting rail way Well obviously you
could move from colony to colony so much faster. There is also a chance for war outbreak with the
U.S, and a key to beating them is to be able to move troops very fast. Trading would be increased

Biography of Robert E. Lee
Robert E. Lee was born in Stratford Hall, near Montross, Virginia, on January 19, 1807.
He grew up with a great love of all country life and his state. This stayed with him for the rest of
his life. He was a very serious boy and spent many hours in his father s library. He loved to play
with some his friends, swim, and he loved to hunt. Lee looked up to his father and always wanted
to know what he was doing. George Washington and his father, Light Horse Harry Lee, were his
heroes. He wanted to be just like his father when he grew up.

The Mexicans soon gave up Vera Cruz. General Scott thanked Lee for his work. Now the Army
could move on to the Mexican capital. The march to Mexico City wo!uld be hard. General Scott
asked Lee to find the best way to go. And he asked him to see what Santa Anna, the Mexican
general, was doing. To get news for Scott, Lee went behind the lines of enemy soldiers. This was
dangerous work. Once when Lee was behind enemy lines he heard voices. Mexican soldiers
were coming to drink at a spring. Lee jumped under a log. More Mexicans came. They sat on the
log and talked. Lee had to hide there until dark. Lee found out many things for Scott. Once he
even found a secret road for the army. He was extremely brave. At Cerro Gordo he led the first
line of men into battle. The Americans won. Lee then wrote to his son, Custis, You have no idea
what a horrible sight a field of battle is. 2 Then came the biggest battle of the war. The Americans
attacked a fort outside Mexico City. Lee planned the attack. For days he worked without sleep. He

King Lear Comparison Essay
Originally written at the start of the 17th century, William Shakespeare s play, King Lear, has
become one of his most famed works. The tragedy was first adapted for the screen in 1909 as a
black and white, silent film. Almost a century later in 2008, King Lear was once more brought to
life through director Trevor Nunn s film adaptation of the same name. Staring Ian McKellen as
King Lear, the film adaptation is based on the 2007 production of the play by the renowned Royal
Shakespeare Company. King Lear is a story of betrayal, loss and madness and to accurately convey
this while simultaneously distinguishing it from other screen renditions, Nunn alters the setting
and utilises the colours of the costumes and backdrop to symbolise the virtues... Show more content

Characters with titles that derive from English place names, such as the Duke of Cornwall, indicate
that the film takes place in England. Also, many scenes occur on heaths which can be commonly
found throughout England but rarely in Russia. However, the costumes worn by male characters,
especially Lear s scarlet tunic, closely resemble those worn by the Tsar and his high ranking
officials. Additionally, Lear s 100 knights have also been transformed into 100 singing, squat
dancing Cossacks which further reinforces the films connection to Imperial Russia as Cossacks are
an ethnic group known for their historic loyalty to the Tsar. The inclusion of rifles as well as glasses
suggests that King Lear is set in the 1800 s which coincides with both Victorian England and
Imperial Russia. Although using elements from two eras may confuse some viewers, historical and
geographical references are negligible to most audience members, allowing them to generate their
own opinion about the setting. At the same time, the setting makes Nunn s production unique.
Since 1909, King Lear has been adapted for the screen on numerous occasions with the majority of
these adaptations retaining the original setting of pre Christian England. By drastically changing
the setting, it distinguishes Nunn s King Lear from other

El Rio De La Huma Research Paper
El Rio de la Plata (Spanish for Silver River ) it is an estuary located southeast of South America in
between the countries of Argentina and Uruguay, draining its waters into the vast Atlantic Ocean. It
is formed by the mixture between the ParanГЎ River and the Uruguay River which extend the
estuary for a 274 km of longitude, with 48 km wide at the head of the estuary and 220 km wide
at the mouth, making it the widest estuary in the world. The waters of the estuary flow from the
northwest to southeast of South America, traveling through the countries of Argentina, Bolivia,
Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. The location of El Rio de la Plata allows the existence of two
major ports located in the cities of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Montevideo, Uruguay. The
estuary is mostly used for its commercial and sport fishing, access to other important ports,
recreation, and tourism. Also along the northern coastline is an important habitat for a variety
marine life such as marine mammals, fishes, aquatic birds, etc. El Rio de la Plata is characterized

a big amount of deposition of sediment accumulates in a specific place, normally at the entrance of

sand which interrupts with navigation of large boats. This leads to the formation of different natural
and artificial sediment channels which are utilized as access routes for large boats to travel from

Film Analysis Of The Film Edward Scissor Hands
Essay
The film Edward Scissor Hands by Tim Burton is seen as a modern day fairytale with the story of
a young man being pulled out of a solitary life into a large town that has a very social community.
When you look closely at the film you can see that it has many deeper meanings and emotions that
are displayed themes throughout the film, some of these are: appearance vs reality, Conformity
/sameness and Self discovery.
Throughout this film we see the theme appearance vs reality which is shown many times. For
example, at the start of the movie we see the mansion which makes the film look like a horror film
but when you see it you are surprised since it has a big colorful well kept garden and it makes it
look a lot less intimidating. The most noticeable example of this theme is Edward, when you
first get a glimpse of Edward we see him in a dark corner inside his mansion. He is spotted by
peg who is trying to sell make when she first sees him she doesn t feel threatened by him, then
she sees that he has a lot of features that make him look like a dangerous person some of these
are, sharp scissors/blades as hands, scars on his face, pale skin and dark clothes with black untidy
hair, when she sees these she tries to leave the mansion but Edward tells her not to go.
Peg Boggs: Why are you hiding back there? You don t have to hide from me I m Peg Boggs, your

Sodium Carbonate And Paba Polar
The sodium carbonate was added in this experiment is because it separates the hydroxyl group s
hydrogen atom from the oxygen on PABA. The O on sodium carbonate attacks the hydrogen on the
hydroxyl group of PABA, thus making the sodium carbonate a hydroxyl group. Meanwhile, the
initial hydroxyl group on PABA becomes O . This reaction makes the oxygenatom on PABA polar.
The reason to make the oxygen on PABA polar is to make it dissolve in water, because water is
polar, and polar likes polar; thus the main reason for adding sodiumcarbonate is to allow PABA to
dissolve in water.
The hydrogen chloride was added in this experiment is because it recombined the previously
separated hydrogen back to the O on PABA, and return the hydroxyl group

Proponents Of Lawyer Dissatisfaction Discredit The...
C. Reasons to Question Survey Data
Proponents of lawyer dissatisfaction discredit the reliability of survey data in several ways. First,
proponents look at the procedural and substantive defects inherent to survey testing. Second,
proponents highlight related survey data such as the high levels of lawyer depression, alcoholism,
and suicide rates, to name a few which are complimentary to the view that many lawyers are
dissatisfied. Last, proponents and opponents alike, suggest that lawyers may be in denial or
untruthful when responding to satisfaction surveys. Therefore, proponents of lawyer
dissatisfaction argue that survey data is unreliable in measuring lawyer dissatisfaction. David
Chambers, a law professor at the University of Michigan Law School, argues that procedural and
substantive defects inherent to survey data make it an unreliable method for measuring lawyer
dissatisfaction. First, most lawyers only place themselves above the midpoint on a satisfaction
scale, which is barely more positive than negative. Second, surveys are conducted at a specific
time and place, and therefore do not give a complete analysis of satisfaction. Last is the fact that
many lawyers do not respond to surveys; and this is likely to be the most true among lawyers that
are the least satisfied. As a result, the deference given to positive claims about lawyer satisfaction
are not grounded in reliable evidence. Positive survey data on lawyer satisfaction cannot be
reconciled with

Renaissance Knights Research Paper
The knights were the warriors of the time period in between the fall of Rome and the beginning of
the Renaissance, also known as the Middle Ages. Knights had to undergo years of training starting
as a young boy. Though they were well trained, knights still needed protection. To protect
themselves, knights would wear complex armor that usually took over an hour to put on, and often
needed the help of his squire. In order to fight well, they needed strong weapons. A knights weapons
were sharp and durable. In France, England, and Germany, knights defended their lords
Usually if a boy s father was a knight or was of a noble family, he would automatically become a
knight. Sometimes, if a man proved that he was good on the battlefield, he was pronounced a
knight. Young boys, usually age seven, were sent to castles or to wealthy people s houses. There,
they would start their training. The ranks of a knight in training showed how long he had been
working towards knighthood. The ranks are from least to greatest: page, squire, and knight. From
age seven to fourteen, the boys trained as medieval pages. From age fourteen to twenty one, they

Correlation Between Lower Extremity Biomechanics and Hip Drop During Single Leg Landing
Post ACLR
Purpose/Hypothesis: Incidence of second ACL Injury after ACL reconstruction is 17 times higher
than healthy uninjured peer athletes. There is high interest in understanding and correcting LE
mechanics during single leg landings as the majority of injuries occur during single leg tasks.
Strengthening and motor control of the proximal hip musculature has been emphasized to improve
pelvic stability and reduce injury risk. Alternatively, decreased load acceptance at the kneemay
contribute to excessive hip drop during landing. Those with ACLR consistently demonstrate
quadriceps weakness and reduced knee extensor moment during landing. Our aim is to ... Show

The isometric strength of the quadriceps was significantly different side to side (INV QUAD =
2.72 В± 0.77, UNINV QUAD = 3.07 В± 0.78, quad LSI = 89% В± 14%). The hip drop of the two
limbs were weakly related to one another (r= 0.237, p = 0.026), the involved limb demonstrated
more hip drop than the uninvolved (INV HIP ADD =14.55 В± 5.05, UNINV HIP ADD = 11.00 В±
5.31). Quadriceps strength symmetry and normalized max knee extensor moment were inversely
related to hip drop with a stronger relationship on the surgical limb (INV: QUAD MVIC r = .341 p

Conclusions: There is a significant correlation between sagittal plane knee and frontal plane hip
moment during SLL in both limbs. Increased quadriceps strength and increased knee moment was
associated with less hip drop during landing. Moreover, the quadriceps strength asymmetry in this
population further amplified this relationship on the surgical side. The increased hip drop indicates
that the participants involved side was not fully recovered post surgery. Limitations: As a

The Consequences Of Evil In The Book Of Job
The Book of Job gives an answer as to why bad things happen to good people. God allows people
to suffer for the good they will attain in the future, both immaterial and physical. This is why
many Christians believe that suffering is not necessarily an evil in itself. The Book of Job also
contains elements of Paul Ricoeur s typologies of evil; including the elements of combat and chaos,
the questioning of God s goodness, and the tragic existence of man s soul.
The Book of Job tells the story of ha satan (the adversary) testing Job s faith by asking God to
plague Job with diseases and allow his family to die. God allows Job to be tested by many
different tribulations, including ulcers and sores, along with losing his family and property. This
brings to question concerning evil: why do bad things happen to good people?
The Book of Job gives an answer to this theodicy. It explains how an omnipotent, omnibenevolent,
and omniscient God could allow bad things to happen to good people. The Book of Job gives an
example of the educational and eschatological theodicy. When applying the educational theodicy,
bad things happen to good people because of what they learn from the suffering. In the case of Job,
Job learned that God has complete power over mankind, and that man is far beneath Him and
everything he has is a gift from God, to begin with. In Chapter 38, verse four, God says to Job:
Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? . He then goes on to say that as God

Edward Luttwak s Analysis On Military Force, Military...
Edward Luttwak s analysis of Roman strategy evaluates the link between military force, military
power, policy, and deterrence. Luttwak describes force as the actual application of a state s
military capability while power is derived from the state s perceived ability to impose force. The
Romans employed a combination of force and power to achieve their policy aims regarding
security. Deterrence provides security by relying on power and the threat of force to prevent an
adversary from committing an unwanted act. Today, United States policy leverages the nation s
perceived power, bolstered by its potential to employ force, in order to deter aggression by
potential adversaries and enhance security. To begin, it is important to explore Luttwak s
definitions of force and power. He describes the use of militaryforce as a finite ability to directly
apply military means in order to force an adversary s compliance. A state s ability to use force is
thus limited by the size of its military capabilityand its ability to concentrate that capability against
an enemy. More importantly, once military forces are committed to an action they are no longer
available to pursue other objectives and are essentially consumed. The implication is that reliance
on military force limits a state s ability to achieve its objectives to the amount of force it can
employ at a given time and place. Examples of the finite nature of military force are numerous.

Louis Pontmercy s Participation In The Rebellion
Marius Pontmercy should not be convicted for his participation in the rebellion against the
French government because it was not a direct assault on the government. First, Marius father,
Georges Pontmercy, was a soldier in Napoleon s army. He fought long and hard for a cause he
believed in and because Marius had great respect for his father he probably wanted to honor his
legacy by following his example. Second, the friends of Marius were very involved in the

John Ford Impact On Westerns
He was the academy winning Western legend, recognized as one of the best filmmakers of all
time, his name was John Ford. He started out his career in film in July 1914 as an assistant,
labourman and actor for his brother Francis Ford. It was not until 1917 where he made his debut
as a director with the lost film, The Tornado and ended his career in the early 1970s with his last
film Chesty: A Tribute to a Legend. During his early years, he was making silent films where
Westerns were very popular during the time. When the introduction of sound came and the birth
of Talkies came, however, the genre started losing its popularity. Yet, that did not stop the director
from working on the genre, eventually to the point where he is now credited today as the man
who played a huge role in bringing the westerns back to popularity. So, in this video essay, I will
be talking about John Fords take on Westerns and how he revolutionized the genre.
Now, what made him so unique in his take was his use of the scenery to enhance how the story is
being told and how the characters were presented and developed in the movies.
As I have said, one of his trademark characteristics was his use of scenery. John Ford used the
environment to describe his characters and the situations they were in instead of ... Show more

He was what many people called a poet who was able to aesthetically display the American
environment, especially those in the Old West. He was reported to have been able to visualize the
scene in his head without the need for storyboards or graphical outlines. Furthermore, he added
layers to his characters that added the gray areas in morality, taking one step further from just black
and white characters. In conclusion, he was influential for his efforts in the revival of the western
genre and his ability to make visually appealing scenes for the audience that would carry on the
style in future westerns, showing his footprint in filming

Compare And Contrast The Hammurabi Code And The Ten...
Hammurabi s Code Vs. the 10 Commandments Have you ever thought of how and what made
everyone want to follow the law nowadays? Hammurabi s code and the Ten Commandments were
two early (not the earliest) codes of law that were used in the ancient times as methods of justice,
both of the laws shaped society then and now. Hammurabi s code goes back to ancient
Mesopotamian culture that flourished way before the Bible was written or the Greek and the
Roman civilizations had even developed. Hammurabi made a collection of 282 laws that
established values of manner and justice for keeping order in his kingdom. God engraved the Ten
Commandments on stone tablets that were given to Moses and the population of Israel. Even
though the code and the commandments... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hammurabi s code influenced the people of his kingdom greatly, he set valuable legitimate
standards that have lasted to this day. Not only did this code set standards but it also includes a
modern day take of court and justice procedures. The Ten Commandment shaped people s belief
not only for Christians, it also shaped morality in all cultures and religions. Because of the two
laws/codes, civilizations learnt what was right and what was wrong; the two laws influenced
them to do the same. What would happen if one disobeyed the rules? It would count as a sin or
be punished, which is also the way legal judiciaries do, however the punishments are not so
brutal. Why? Because people have learnt how to be wise with the decisions they make,
civilizations have gotten a moral sense because of these laws. In addition to the last point stated,
the two laws give a basic and complex legal code that defends the innocent, punishes the guilty, it
establishes a right to own and regulate private land, allows for self defense, enforces the law to
treat people with respect etc. All of the laws stated above apply to modern day society and culture,
especially in judicial

Paul Mccartney s Impact On Pop Music
Paul McCartney was born June 18, 1942, in Liverpool, England. His contribution in the Beatles in
the 1960s helped pop music ascend from its origins in the entertainment business and morphed it
into a highly respected creative commercial art form. He also remains as one of the most
prominent solo performers of all time in terms of both recordings at his concerts and sales of his
attendants.
Sir James Paul McCartney was born on June 18, 1942, in Liverpool, England, to James and Mary
McCartney. His father was a cotton salesman, who would often play the piano with a local jazz
band his mother was a maternity nurse. As a labor man s child he grew up in a traditional working
class family, similar to later bandmates of the Beatles George Harrison and Richard Starkey (Ringo
Starr). An early tragedy happened when Paul was just fourteen years old, his mother died. Her
death was linked to complications after a mastectomy. McCartney s later band member, John
Lennon, also suffered the loss of his mother at an early age a connection that Paul would later point
to as the start of a close bond between the two musicians.
He was inspired by his father to explore different musical instruments, Paul initiated his lifelong
love affair with music as a young kid growing up in Liverpool. Although he took proper music
lessons as a kid, he found it easier to learn by ear, teaching himself the Spanish guitar, piano and
trumpet. The teenaged musician met John Lennon in 1957 at a church festival where

Essay on Collins Theory of Intersectionality
Intersectionality according to Patricia Hill Collins is the theory of the relationship between race,
gender and class (1990), also known as the matrix of domination (2000). This matrix shows that
there is no one way to understand the complex nature of how gender, race and class inequalities
within women s lives can be separated; for they are intertwined within each other. Genderorder
according to our text is labeled as hierarchal (2008), stating that Men dominate women in terms of
wealth, power, and social position, but not all men dominate all women (2008). While this may be
true, it is creating a divide between the two genders. This divide is apparent by looking at the pay

Our text notes that However, no one person is completely oppressed or completely privileged
(2008). This is a completely true statement, and it coincides with the theory of intersectionality
because everyone regardless of your gender, race, or class; had been at one point or another been
oppressed by someone or something. The class inequality has been an issue for quite some time;
the levels of this are the elite, middle, and lower class tiers. But even within these three major
tiers, there are sub tiers, but mostly within the United States, society tends to rate women within
the Middle to Lower class. This is true within the professional world of women, seeing as how
they are considered on the weaker, lower class tier, Collins refers to an outsider within status

Disadvantages Of Contract Employment Versus At-Will...
What are the comparative advantages and disadvantages of contract employment versus at will
employment for an employer and employee?
There are advantages and disadvantages for both the employee and the employer with contract
employment.
For the employer, it gives them a way to keep their best employees around, along as they can
provide terms that the employee finds advantageous. However, by the same token, a good
employee could be offered a more attractive contract by another employer when it comes contract
renewal time, having a contract doesn t mean you own that employee, but it gives each of the
parties involved a measure of comfort.
As an employer and an employee having a contract spells out the terms of employment, it gives
each of you a clear expectation of the job that should be performed, the benefits such as health
insurance, sick days and even protection for any trade secrets that the employee may be privy to.
Moreover, it can limit the reasons that an employee can leave the company and terminate the
contract early (Findlaw, n.d.).
Furthermore, as an employee you can have your pay with subsequent raises included in the terms
as well as know exactly what could be grounds for dismissal.
All in all a contract can provide each of you with an equitable premise to keep each party happy and
the employment relationship healthy.

While each company and corporations have a lot of freedom to choose the employees they feel

The Stereotypes Of Discrimination In The Workplace
Infringement of people s rights because of their race, sex, age, marital status, sexual orientation is a

Discrimination in the labor market is a widespread process that can be defined as the unequal

Pontius Pilate Influence On Jesus Plate
Pontius Pilate was a Roman governor who overlooked Judea. To me, he was made out to seem
like a weak leader in the gospels, however in all actuality, he was a harsh and strong governor. He
could arguably be considered the single man who changed history as we know it. The gospels do
not explain much about Pilate and his background. The only time he was really introduced was
during the trial of Jesus. He was acknowledged a few times to show he was the one who followed
through with the crucifixion, and then he ceased to be brought back up again. However, the book
Pontius Pilateby Paul L. Maier thoroughly and adequately illustrates Pilate s life before and after
the life changing verdict. This was a fascinating read that really captivated my interest. It was long

I never understood how serious the division was but Pontius Pilate helped inform me of the
magnitude. There was serious tension since Pilate was governor over Jews and that ultimately
affected his decisions. He went so far as to use Jesus being on trial as a way to manipulate the
Jews to admit they had no king but Caeser. This was a confidence booster for Pilate because it
reaffirmed his authority of Rome. Not surprisingly, he didn t stop there. Pilate made sure the
Jews felt guilty about the crucifixion. It was said that Pilate washed his hands clean of Jesus
blood. After, the Jews replied by saying, His blood be on us and on our children (238). Pilate
operated the whole production so the blame would be focused on the Jews and not him. I was
very shocked to see such evil works from a man. I didn t know how intense the rivalry between

Brando, an inarticulate former prizefighter in his late twenties, serves as a petty errand boy for
the union head, Johnny Friendly. The Hoboken, New Jersey port across the river from
Manhattan, is the setting of the film where gangs run the docks and work in the area. The film
shows realism in many different cinematic and thematic ways throughout the film. In the sense
of cinematically, this film was filmed on the actual docks of New Jersey in the winter time.
Kazan is able to brilliantly create the realistic port feel by filming on scene and using the natural
surroundings as his canvas . The cargo ships in the background coming in and out, the slummy
docks where men find work, and the local bars from the area. These natural settings and props
made the film real and alive as it was what was actually going on in the ports. The background
sounds on the dock ships whistles and chains clanging through metal loops add to the realistic
aural environment. Kazan also uses the natural cold and winter to film in which give the film a
realistic mise en scГЁne. Breaths are visible and steam up in the bone cold air. A small detail like
this suggests the brutal treatment these dock workers face daily, not only from the corrupt union
officials but from the elements themselves. The visible breaths also affirm the unique existence of
each character. Kazan casted not just actors to play these though

changing society. It is believed to originate from wide scale and far reaching changes to Western
civilization in the late 19th and early 20th centuries the years following World War1. Modernism
involves breaking from the past set of established rules, traditions and conventions in search of
new forms of expression and man s functions. New ideas in politics, psychology and philosophical
theories are the main factors that led to a search for new modes of expression. Characterized by

Aztec Culture And The Aztec Civilization
Aztec culture flourished in the highlands of central Mexico between the twelfth and sixteenth
centuries, AD. As the last in a series of complex urban civilizations in Mesoamerica, the Aztecs
adopted many traits and institutions from their predecessors such as the Maya and Teotihuacan.
The Aztecs also devised many innovations, particularly in the realms of economics and politics.
Azteccivilization was destroyed at its height by the invasion of Spanish conquerors under
Hernando CortГ©s in 1519. The Aztecs, like many other Mesoamerican cultures, used a limited
form of writing that consisted of pictorial representations painted on bark paper and animal
hides. (Diego 8). The Aztecs were a very religious group, many of their traditions and recorded
history has been related to the religion of the Aztec civilization. Even after the Aztec culture was
dominated by the Spaniards, religion was still a big part of Mesoamerican culture. Regardless of
what happened to the Aztecs, religion never strayed from them even if their beliefs changed. The
Aztec empire stretched throughout large portions of what is now Mexico and was powerful native
empires that was created during its time period, the Aztecs though were immigrants of this area.
According to their pictorial histories the Aztec peoples claimed to have migrated to central Mexico
from a place in the north called Aztlan (Diego 10). The Aztec immigrants arrived in central Mexico
during a time of low population and abundant land so it

Feminism In Flatland
A movement called Feminism started in the 1840 s and even still exists today. The movement
fights for women s equality with men. In the book, Flatland, by Edwin A. Abbott, the women
living in Flatland, a land of two dimensions, are seen as straight lines with no brains by the men
who are shapes. The book is narrated by A. Square who discovers new dimensions, or lands, and
learns about them. The theme of the story is that women in the Victorian Era are treated as if they
are less superior than men.
Abbott expresses that women are useless throughout his book. In Flatland, their angles are very
small, due to being a very skinny parallelogram, therefore they lack intelligence. For as they have
no pretensions to an angle . . . they are consequently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women are very thin parallelograms that resemble a needle. For if a Soldier is a wedge, a
Woman is a needle; being, so to speak, all point, at least at the two extremities (Abbott 10). In
Victorian era, women all wanted a small waist because men thought it was beautiful. A needle
represents the woman because needles are thin. In Flatland, they were assigned similar color as
Circles for the Universal Colour Bill. For by assigning to the Women the same two colours as
were assigned to the Priests . . . every Woman would appear like a Priest, and be treated with
corresponding respect and deference a prospect that could not fail to attract the female Sex in a
mass (Abbott 29). A. Square s usage of words makes women seem selfish. The Circles are the
highest class and are treated with respect. He says that women are painted the same as circles,
which rounded up all the female s attention because they want respect. Women are useless when it
comes to education. About three hundred years ago, it was decreed by the Chief Circle that, since
women are deficient in Reason but abundant in Emotion, they ought no longer to be treated as
rational, nor receive any mental education (Abbott 39 40). The Chief Circle thinks women are
useless in reasoning and education, yet very emotional. he believed women do not deserve to be
able to learn so he took it as their consequences. Abbott shows that how the women acts reflects on

Summary of the Hidden Persuaders by Vance Packard
| Book Summary and Critique: The Hidden Persuaders Summary of THE HIDDEN
PERSUADERS by Vance Packard 1. The Depth Approach. This book is about the large scale and
sometimes impressively successful efforts to use insights from psychiatry and the social sciences
(and provided all too willingly by cooperative psychologists and social scientists) to channel our
unthinking habits, our purchasing decisions, and our thought processes. The use of mass
psychoanalysisto guide campaigns of persuasion has become the basis of a multimillion dollar
industry. Some of the attempted manipulation is simply amusing. Some of it is disquieting,
particularly when viewed us a portent of more intensive and effective efforts that may lie ahead....

Studies of narcissism indicated that nothing appeals more to people than themselves, so why
not help people buy products that were projections of themselves? The image builders reasoned
that they could thus spark love affairs by the millions, and the sale of self images soon was
expediting the movement of hundreds of millions of dollars worth of merchandise to
consumers, particularly gasoline, cigarettes, and automobiles. 6. Rx for Our Secret Distresses.
The merchandisers concluded that billions of dollars worth of sales depended heavily on
successfully manipulating or coping with our guilt, fears, anxieties, hostilities, loneliness, and
inner tensions. Guilt proved to be one of the major problems the motivational analysts had to
grapple with, for though self indulgent and easy does it products such as candy, soft drinks,
cigarettes, liquor, cake mixes, and laborsaving appliances were becoming a significant sector of
the total market, Americans still were basically puritans at heart. Therefore, the marketing of
such products had to assuage guilt feelings and offer absolution. Cigarette advertising began to
reflect the insights of MR: people were shown smoking while under pressure or as a reward for
tough jobs done. Similarly, candy was marketed as a way to reward oneself, or, when sold in bite
sized pieces, as self indulgence in moderation. Household appliances were

Explain Why Christians Should Create A Society Separate...
REST OF THE WORLD
Consideration: Christians should create a society separate from the rest of the world.
Objection 1: In the Bible, God commanded his people to go out and evangelize the rest of the
world. Thus, Christians should live in a society with a non religious population and be part of the
world.
Objection 2: By living in a separated community, people tend to think they are greater than everyone
else, thus losing the virtue of humility.
Objection 3: Living in a separate society is unnecessary, as separation can cause a person to lose
touch with reality. Therefore, Christians should remain in the world and not try to separate
themselves from it.
On the contrary: In the second book of Thessalonians 3:6, it says: Now we command you, brethren,
in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from every brother who leads an unruly
life and not according to the tradition which you received from us. The brethren of our Lord
should avoid all men who are a bad influence on them. Our world today is so corrupt that many
non Christian men and women will lead Christians to a life of sin and a way of life that is not
Christian. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Rod Dreher, If we are going to be for the world as Christ meant for us to be, we are
going to have to spend more time away from the world, in deep prayer and substantial spiritual
training just as Jesus retreated to the desert to pray before ministering to the people. We cannot
give the world what we do not have. The Christian people have themselves too often become
corrupted by the world. If they were to live in their own separate community they could rebuild
their faith. For these reasons, Christians should work on the strength of their own faith before they
try to pass it on to others. Only when their faith is strong can they bring Christ to the

Comparing Margaret Cavendish s The Description of a New World, Called the Blazing World and
Sir Thomas More s Utopia
The so called Utopia the quasi perfect society flourishes in Margaret Cavendish s The Description
of a New World, Called a Blazing World and Sir Thomas More s Utopia. While the formeris a
dreamlike account of fantasy rule and the latter a pseudo realistic travelogue, both works paint a
picture of worlds that are not so perfect after all. These imperfections glitter like false gemstones in
the paths of these Utopians religious beliefs, political systems, and philosophical viewpoints.
Religion and spirituality reach into the depths of the human psyche and strongly influence a nation
s way of life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In More s Utopia, everyone does indeed worship different gods, yet they must all believe in one
single eternal power. This allows Hythloday the narrator and his comrades to convert some of
the Utopians into Christians, for the citizens readily accept the one god notion and the practice
of sharing communal goods (More 517). No one is condemned due to his or her religious beliefs
in Utopia. A fanatic who begins condemning other religions is tried on a charge, not of despising
their religion, but of creating a public disorder and is sent into exile (More 518). Does this
reflect a society with utopian religious ideals? In Utopia, there are two sects of religious people
the ascetic sect whose members do not marry or eat meat, and the sect that allows its members
to marry and eat meat. The Utopians regard the second as more sensible, but the first holier.
They believe that anyone [who] chose celibacy over marriage and a hard life over a comfortable
one on grounds of reason alone is insane; but as these men say they are motivated by religion, the
Utopians respect and revere them (More 520). Truly, religion shapes a nation s identity and beliefs,
and in the cases of the Blazing World and Utopia, some aspects of their religion mars their perfect
societies.
Closely linked to religion is marriage, a celebration governed by the government of Utopia.
Marriage is a

The Devil Wears Prada Analysis
Have you ever been intimidated by someone merely by their presence? What is making their
presence intimidating, even if they haven t said anything? This situation would be primarily due to
their body language, eye contact, and/or confidence to name a few; it is a known fact that 95% of
communication revolves around nonverbal cues such as these. This large percentage of nonverbal
cues can be seen in the movie The Devil Wears Prada.
An average but intelligent woman named Andy Sachs lands a job at a popular fashion magazine as
Meryl Streep s aka Miranda Priestly s aka the devil s assistant. She has to deal with the devils
difficult demands and trying to fit into this new world she had mocked before; as she proves, and
seemingly loses, herself she must decide what she really wants and how to deal with Miranda.
This movie contains many examples of nonverbal language, making it hard to narrow down. In the
end I chose the three things I thought had the most prevalence in the movie: Influencing others
/body movement, the ambiguous nature of nonverbal, and managing impressions
Influencing Others/Physical Attractiveness How we look, act, and sound to others
After a while of working there, Andy starts wearing more fashionable clothes and changes her hair
/makeup. Along with this, as she gets more accustomed and comfortable with her job she gets more
confidence in her body movements. One particular scene about 30 minutes into the movie, Andy
walks into the office very confidently and

My Favorite Game Of Football
The team was on fourth down and five yards away from the touchdown. Down, set, hike. The
quarterback rolled right. He threw a bullet across the field to number 7, the receiver, who was
wide open and ready for the ball. Number 9 leaped from midfield and knocked the ball down.
The crowd went wild. He had just saved the team from losing. All his teammates ran onto the
field and chanted his name. It was at this moment that I knew I loved football and wanted to feel
like the guy that was number 9. Growing up, I loved playing sports. They got my mind off other
things going on and was like therapy for me. My favorite sport to play was football. My parents
never put me in any sports. They had just never felt the need to. My parents grew up in India
with poor education and knowing little English, played a huge part in my childhood. They did
not read kid s books to me and I don t remember watching all the hit shows that children my age
use to watch. They were busy on putting food on the plate and focused on securing mine and my
brother s future. I was always jealous of the other kids in my class of the nice clothes they wore
and their connection with their parents. I would stay after school sometimes to watch kids from
my grade practice on the field. I always thought that I would never be able to play as good
because of my genetics. I would hate my parents for not putting me into sports and not having
the right genes. I knew I would never get to be as tall or as big as them and I blamed it all on my
parents. When I got into my teens, my cousin invited me to go to a flag football practice that he
played for. I watched him and his other friends play and I was intrigued. As soon as I learned the
rules, they put me in as the wide receiver. I was very nervous because I did not know what to
expect. The quarterback called hike and I ran the play that he gave me. He made me do it at
least ten times and I probably had only caught the ball twice. I was extremely embarrassed. But,
the people on the team encouraged me and told me I would get better with practice. That is
exactly what I did. I came out to every practice with my cousin driving me there and poured my
heart out in every single one. I switched positions and moved

  • 2. 1970 s Music Videos Back in the 1970 s music videos were already able to be produced by record companies and were being used in promotional sites. This was thanks to technology that was created in the 1950 s by French artists (Serge Gainsbourg, FranГ§ois Hardy, Jacques Dutronc) . They had created a machine called the Cine box that would allow them to play a short film and a tape recording. The videos they created were the beginnings of the music video that even involved lip syncing. Their technology became more popular and advanced as it was used throughout the 60 s and so on by popular bands and musicians. When the 70 s arrived people had already begun to insert short songs throughout many films and from then on the music video continued ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Special Interest Define an interest group with examples. Interest group usually a voluntary organization where members share a common interest in which they seek to influence public policy, without seeking political control. They have primary activities such as lobbying the members of the legislative bodies through contributions to political parties, trying to elect sympathetic or pliable politicians, and by conducting covert or open propaganda campaigns. (Interest Groups, n.d.) There are a few different types of interest groups and they are as follows: Economic Interest Groups This is the largest category that includes organizations that represent big businesses, such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (1) They seek to win elections or electoral positions; (2) they reorganize around those periodic elections and then may become less active, and (3) they depend on the local mobilization of voters who support political candidates but not necessarily the party organization. Interest groups are more issue oriented, are continuously maintained, and are dependent on supporters who identify with their organization. (Browne, n.d.) One thing that differentiates political parties from interest groups arises from the nature of the political system in which they operate and from the various electoral rules and structures that exist in different countries. In corporatist societies, interest groups may be invited to participate in government decisions to the exclusion of competitor interests. In parliamentary system, a party may have a narrow base and may try to win only a small number of legislative seats. (Browne, n.d.) Explain how interest groups try to influence the president and Congress as these two branches work together to make policy. Trying to persuade government officials through direct inside contact is called the inside game. Lobbying is another term for inside game. Lobbyists normally work for a specific interest group, corporation, or law firm that specializes in professional lobbying. (Interest Groups, 2012) Lobbying originates from the way interest groups played the inside games in the nineteenth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. My Day At High School The idea came upon me late on a Sunday night in early February. An idea that me and my buddies from high school need one last get together before the end of the semester. Yes, the end of the semester is not for another 2 months, but many of my friends go to a variety of different colleges which means many different weeks of spring break. I realized that this would be our last chance together so let s go home this weekend and get together. We ran with the idea. We all found ways back home and our plan was to get together that Friday night. I looked forward to that Friday night all week, but when that Friday night came it was all ruined by a guy that would do anything to never be unfair to someone on purpose. On February 7th around 8 o clock or so me and my roommates were eating dinner discussing spring break. We talked about when our spring break was and how it was going to be way different since many of our buddies go to different colleges and have separate spring break dates. As we talked dates I realized that our spring break was a week before all my other buddies spring breaks were. This is the reason upon deciding to have a get together later that week. I immediately sent out a text to one of my good buddies Jackson. Jackson has a garage that is fully renovated therefore it is our primary hang out spot. We talked about if it was a good idea and if we could stay in the garage that Friday night. All went well that entire week. Me and my five other buddies all found ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We met a family and they told us to go Fort Vancouver for supplies and then go to Oregon City but we decided to just travel the rest of the way to Oregon City without stopping. We leave for Oregon City today and we will get there in a few days. Betsy is sick once again and running low on energy. We finally make it about halfway and we get to The Dalles. It s a nice place but now we got to go on the Barlow Road. It is pretty dumb but we have to pay a toll to use this road too. It came out as 2.80 total but we can t spend much so instead we pay 1 dollar and we trade a cow. We take the road but it is very steep and Juan s horse got ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Jazz Messenger Art Blakey In the same way as other admired jazz artists, the drummer Art Blakey held tight sufficiently long to see his way to deal with music return into style. A main drummer of the post World War II bop style exemplified by Charlie Parker, Blakey was better known for his authority of his Jazz Messengers, one of the longest running and reliably superb gatherings in jazz. The street to incredible status was twisting, in any case. Shunning the vanguard, Blakey was overlooked by jazz faultfinders in the trial 1960s and disregarded by American groups of onlookers in the 1970s, when rock applied its hegemonic control over the matter of popular music. Not able to land a U.S. recording contract, he discharged various collections for European names in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Putting aside his neo bop style, which he spearheaded, Blakey took in band individuals whose tastes were unequivocally more pop than jazz. Throw Mangione s minimal known stay in the Messengers trumpet seat was maybe a definitive impression of the breakdown in the social concensus about the components of true jazz. Yet for Blakey afficianados, the 1970s have much to offer, as another re issue from Fantasy Records illustrates. Mission Eternal contains two full collections recorded by a heavenly Blakey band in March 1973 and initially discharged by the Prestige mark under the titles of Buhaina and Athenagin. A cut underneath Blakey s best recordings of the 1960s, these collections by and by demonstrate a familiarity with the cutting edge, a desire for Latin beats and roused exhibitions by solid sidemen. Cedar Walton stays the gathering on piano and contributes some solid organizations, outstandingly Mission Eternal. Carter Jefferson, an innovative saxophonist who merits more extensive thankfulness, strikes a decent harmony between constancy to models and the unavoidable quest for new sounds. His performance on Gertrude s Bounce is brutish yet melodic. Vocalist Jon Hendricks, who joins the gathering on two cuts, is hypnotizing on the jazz standard Moanin and spooky on Along Came ... • 8. Iconography Of Virgin Mary The iconography contained in this painting is religious for the most obvious reasons such as the depiction of the Virgin Mary, baby Jesus, along with the angel holding the Virgin s crown. Also, the capitals that are shown on the left include scenes from the Old Testament which highlight humanity errors. Some of the errors that are depicted are Adam and Eve getting thrown out from the Garden of Eden, the sacrifice of Caine and Abel, God receiving Abel s offering, along with other scenes. Another reason why there is religious iconography can be seen between the positions of the individuals who are being portrayed. For example, the chancellor appears to be kneeling down towards baby Jesusand the Virgin Mary, on one side of the painting you have sacred figures and on the left side you have the chancellor representing the public.... • 9. The New Brunswick And Prince Edward Island Needed. That is just one of the many words that pop into my mind when I hear the word Confederation. My fellow fathers of confederation as many of you may already know I am John. A. Macdonald and I am very much in favor of confederation. When I was just a little boy I moved from Scotland to amazing Canada West. That is who I am here representing. Since a young boy I have always thought that Confederation would be a great idea. I have over the years realized what this would bring to all of us. My fellow colonies of Nova Scotia New Brunswick and Prince Edward IslandI will tell you today in beautiful Charlottetown P.E.I why I believe so much in confederation. I will change any doubters to believers of confederation. Today will change history for the next generations to come, that is your children and all their children to come. One vote could change everything. It can take us a long way. Advantages to every colony is what confederation will bring. The first thing that is great is that we can build a connecting railway from colony to colony, wouldn t that be great, my fellow friends. What is so great about that you may ask. Every winter the St. Lawrence freezes, we can t take the chance of falling through, why not build a connecting rail way Well obviously you could move from colony to colony so much faster. There is also a chance for war outbreak with the U.S, and a key to beating them is to be able to move troops very fast. Trading would be increased simply because for ... He grew up with a great love of all country life and his state. This stayed with him for the rest of his life. He was a very serious boy and spent many hours in his father s library. He loved to play with some his friends, swim, and he loved to hunt. Lee looked up to his father and always wanted to know what he was doing. George Washington and his father, Light Horse Harry Lee, were his heroes. He wanted to be just like his father when he grew up. When he could, Lee went to stand by his brother s gun. I could see his white teeth through all the smoke of the fire 1 Lee said, in a letter to Mary. The Mexicans soon gave up Vera Cruz. General Scott thanked Lee for his work. Now the Army could move on to the Mexican capital. The march to Mexico City wo!uld be hard. General Scott asked Lee to find the best way to go. And he asked him to see what Santa Anna, the Mexican general, was doing. To get news for Scott, Lee went behind the lines of enemy soldiers. This was dangerous work. Once when Lee was behind enemy lines he heard voices. Mexican soldiers were coming to drink at a spring. Lee jumped under a log. More Mexicans came. They sat on the log and talked. Lee had to hide there until dark. Lee found out many things for Scott. Once he even found a secret road for the army. He was extremely brave. At Cerro Gordo he led the first line of men into battle. The Americans won. Lee then wrote to his son, Custis, You have no idea what a horrible sight a field of battle is. 2 Then came the biggest battle of the war. • 11. King Lear Comparison Essay Originally written at the start of the 17th century, William Shakespeare s play, King Lear, has become one of his most famed works. The tragedy was first adapted for the screen in 1909 as a black and white, silent film. Almost a century later in 2008, King Lear was once more brought to life through director Trevor Nunn s film adaptation of the same name. Staring Ian McKellen as King Lear, the film adaptation is based on the 2007 production of the play by the renowned Royal Shakespeare Company. King Lear is a story of betrayal, loss and madness and to accurately convey this while simultaneously distinguishing it from other screen renditions, Nunn alters the setting and utilises the colours of the costumes and backdrop to symbolise the virtues... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Characters with titles that derive from English place names, such as the Duke of Cornwall, indicate that the film takes place in England. Also, many scenes occur on heaths which can be commonly found throughout England but rarely in Russia. However, the costumes worn by male characters, especially Lear s scarlet tunic, closely resemble those worn by the Tsar and his high ranking officials. Additionally, Lear s 100 knights have also been transformed into 100 singing, squat dancing Cossacks which further reinforces the films connection to Imperial Russia as Cossacks are an ethnic group known for their historic loyalty to the Tsar. The inclusion of rifles as well as glasses suggests that King Lear is set in the 1800 s which coincides with both Victorian England and Imperial Russia. Although using elements from two eras may confuse some viewers, historical and geographical references are negligible to most audience members, allowing them to generate their own opinion about the setting. At the same time, the setting makes Nunn s production unique. Since 1909, King Lear has been adapted for the screen on numerous occasions with the majority of these adaptations retaining the original setting of pre Christian England. By drastically changing the setting, it distinguishes Nunn s King Lear from other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Film Analysis Of The Film Edward Scissor Hands Essay The film Edward Scissor Hands by Tim Burton is seen as a modern day fairytale with the story of a young man being pulled out of a solitary life into a large town that has a very social community. When you look closely at the film you can see that it has many deeper meanings and emotions that are displayed themes throughout the film, some of these are: appearance vs reality, Conformity /sameness and Self discovery. Throughout this film we see the theme appearance vs reality which is shown many times. For example, at the start of the movie we see the mansion which makes the film look like a horror film but when you see it you are surprised since it has a big colorful well kept garden and it makes it look a lot less intimidating. • 14. Sodium Carbonate And Paba Polar The sodium carbonate was added in this experiment is because it separates the hydroxyl group s hydrogen atom from the oxygen on PABA. The O on sodium carbonate attacks the hydrogen on the hydroxyl group of PABA, thus making the sodium carbonate a hydroxyl group. Meanwhile, the initial hydroxyl group on PABA becomes O . This reaction makes the oxygenatom on PABA polar. The reason to make the oxygen on PABA polar is to make it dissolve in water, because water is polar, and polar likes polar; thus the main reason for adding sodiumcarbonate is to allow PABA to dissolve in water. The hydrogen chloride was added in this experiment is because it recombined the previously separated hydrogen back to the O on PABA, and return the hydroxyl group ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Proponents Of Lawyer Dissatisfaction Discredit The... C. Reasons to Question Survey Data Proponents of lawyer dissatisfaction discredit the reliability of survey data in several ways. First, proponents look at the procedural and substantive defects inherent to survey testing. Second, proponents highlight related survey data such as the high levels of lawyer depression, alcoholism, and suicide rates, to name a few which are complimentary to the view that many lawyers are dissatisfied. Last, proponents and opponents alike, suggest that lawyers may be in denial or untruthful when responding to satisfaction surveys. Therefore, proponents of lawyer dissatisfaction argue that survey data is unreliable in measuring lawyer dissatisfaction. David Chambers, a law professor at the University of Michigan Law School, argues that procedural and substantive defects inherent to survey data make it an unreliable method for measuring lawyer dissatisfaction. First, most lawyers only place themselves above the midpoint on a satisfaction scale, which is barely more positive than negative. Second, surveys are conducted at a specific time and place, and therefore do not give a complete analysis of satisfaction. Last is the fact that many lawyers do not respond to surveys; and this is likely to be the most true among lawyers that are the least satisfied. As a result, the deference given to positive claims about lawyer satisfaction are not grounded in reliable evidence. Positive survey data on lawyer satisfaction cannot be reconciled with ... Long Day Landing Essay Correlation Between Lower Extremity Biomechanics and Hip Drop During Single Leg Landing Post ACLR Purpose/Hypothesis: Incidence of second ACL Injury after ACL reconstruction is 17 times higher than healthy uninjured peer athletes. There is high interest in understanding and correcting LE mechanics during single leg landings as the majority of injuries occur during single leg tasks. Strengthening and motor control of the proximal hip musculature has been emphasized to improve pelvic stability and reduce injury risk. The hip drop of the two limbs were weakly related to one another (r= 0.237, p = 0.026), the involved limb demonstrated more hip drop than the uninvolved (INV HIP ADD =14.55 В± 5.05, UNINV HIP ADD = 11.00 В± 5.31). Quadriceps strength symmetry and normalized max knee extensor moment were inversely related to hip drop with a stronger relationship on the surgical limb (INV: QUAD MVIC r = .341 p = .001, KNEE MOM: r = .425 p .001 (n=88), UNINV: QUAD MVIC r = 0.278 p = .009, KNEE MOM: r = .294 p = .005). • 19. The Consequences Of Evil In The Book Of Job The Book of Job gives an answer as to why bad things happen to good people. God allows people to suffer for the good they will attain in the future, both immaterial and physical. This is why many Christians believe that suffering is not necessarily an evil in itself. The Book of Job also contains elements of Paul Ricoeur s typologies of evil; including the elements of combat and chaos, the questioning of God s goodness, and the tragic existence of man s soul. The Book of Job tells the story of ha satan (the adversary) testing Job s faith by asking God to plague Job with diseases and allow his family to die. God allows Job to be tested by many different tribulations, including ulcers and sores, along with losing his family and property. This brings to question concerning evil: why do bad things happen to good people? The Book of Job gives an answer to this theodicy. It explains how an omnipotent, omnibenevolent, and omniscient God could allow bad things to happen to good people. The Book of Job gives an example of the educational and eschatological theodicy. When applying the educational theodicy, bad things happen to good people because of what they learn from the suffering. In the case of Job, Job learned that God has complete power over mankind, and that man is far beneath Him and everything he has is a gift from God, to begin with. In Chapter 38, verse four, God says to Job: Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? . He then goes on to say that as God ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Edward Luttwak s Analysis On Military Force, Military... Edward Luttwak s analysis of Roman strategy evaluates the link between military force, military power, policy, and deterrence. Luttwak describes force as the actual application of a state s military capability while power is derived from the state s perceived ability to impose force. The Romans employed a combination of force and power to achieve their policy aims regarding security. Deterrence provides security by relying on power and the threat of force to prevent an adversary from committing an unwanted act. Today, United States policy leverages the nation s perceived power, bolstered by its potential to employ force, in order to deter aggression by potential adversaries and enhance security. To begin, it is important to explore Luttwak s definitions of force and power. He describes the use of militaryforce as a finite ability to directly apply military means in order to force an adversary s compliance. A state s ability to use force is thus limited by the size of its military capabilityand its ability to concentrate that capability against an enemy. More importantly, once military forces are committed to an action they are no longer available to pursue other objectives and are essentially consumed. The implication is that reliance on military force limits a state s ability to achieve its objectives to the amount of force it can employ at a given time and place. Examples of the finite nature of military force are numerous. Luttwak points to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He started out his career in film in July 1914 as an assistant, labourman and actor for his brother Francis Ford. It was not until 1917 where he made his debut as a director with the lost film, The Tornado and ended his career in the early 1970s with his last film Chesty: A Tribute to a Legend. During his early years, he was making silent films where Westerns were very popular during the time. When the introduction of sound came and the birth of Talkies came, however, the genre started losing its popularity. Yet, that did not stop the director from working on the genre, eventually to the point where he is now credited today as the man who played a huge role in bringing the westerns back to popularity. So, in this video essay, I will be talking about John Fords take on Westerns and how he revolutionized the genre. Now, what made him so unique in his take was his use of the scenery to enhance how the story is being told and how the characters were presented and developed in the movies. Hammurabi s code goes back to ancient Mesopotamian culture that flourished way before the Bible was written or the Greek and the Roman civilizations had even developed. Because of the two laws/codes, civilizations learnt what was right and what was wrong; the two laws influenced them to do the same. What would happen if one disobeyed the rules? It would count as a sin or be punished, which is also the way legal judiciaries do, however the punishments are not so brutal. Why? Because people have learnt how to be wise with the decisions they make, civilizations have gotten a moral sense because of these laws. In addition to the last point stated, the two laws give a basic and complex legal code that defends the innocent, punishes the guilty, it establishes a right to own and regulate private land, allows for self defense, enforces the law to treat people with respect etc. All of the laws stated above apply to modern day society and culture, especially in judicial ... • 35. Disadvantages Of Contract Employment Versus At-Will... What are the comparative advantages and disadvantages of contract employment versus at will employment for an employer and employee? There are advantages and disadvantages for both the employee and the employer with contract employment. For the employer, it gives them a way to keep their best employees around, along as they can provide terms that the employee finds advantageous. However, by the same token, a good employee could be offered a more attractive contract by another employer when it comes contract renewal time, having a contract doesn t mean you own that employee, but it gives each of the parties involved a measure of comfort. As an employer and an employee having a contract spells out the terms of employment, it gives each of you a clear expectation of the job that should be performed, the benefits such as health insurance, sick days and even protection for any trade secrets that the employee may be privy to. Moreover, it can limit the reasons that an employee can leave the company and terminate the contract early (Findlaw, n.d.). Furthermore, as an employee you can have your pay with subsequent raises included in the terms as well as know exactly what could be grounds for dismissal. All in all a contract can provide each of you with an equitable premise to keep each party happy and the employment relationship healthy. Is it appropriate for governments to interfere with private businesses to prevent discrimination? In what situations do you believe the government should intervene to prevent discrimination? While each company and corporations have a lot of freedom to choose the employees they feel is right for the company, and should have choices, in many cases excellent candidates could be looked over because of their skin color, age or disability (EEOC, n.d.) (Lau Johnson, 2011). Subsequently, the government has based various laws to protect people that fall into specific classes, Lau and Johnson, (2011, p.213) named these classes as race, color, religion, sex, national origin, and then later, age and disability were added to these protected classes. This phenomenon contradicts the eternal aspirations of humanity to freedom, equality, and justice. To me, he was made out to seem like a weak leader in the gospels, however in all actuality, he was a harsh and strong governor. He could arguably be considered the single man who changed history as we know it. The gospels do not explain much about Pilate and his background. The only time he was really introduced was during the trial of Jesus. He was acknowledged a few times to show he was the one who followed through with the crucifixion, and then he ceased to be brought back up again. However, the book Pontius Pilateby Paul L. Maier thoroughly and adequately illustrates Pilate s life before and after the life changing verdict. This was a fascinating read that really captivated my interest. There was serious tension since Pilate was governor over Jews and that ultimately affected his decisions. He went so far as to use Jesus being on trial as a way to manipulate the Jews to admit they had no king but Caeser. This was a confidence booster for Pilate because it reaffirmed his authority of Rome. Not surprisingly, he didn t stop there. Pilate made sure the Jews felt guilty about the crucifixion. It was said that Pilate washed his hands clean of Jesus blood. After, the Jews replied by saying, His blood be on us and on our children (238). Pilate operated the whole production so the blame would be focused on the Jews and not him. I was very shocked to see such evil works from a man. On The Waterfront Analysis In the 1954 film, On the Waterfront directed by Elia Kazan, Terry Malloy, played by Marlon Brando, an inarticulate former prizefighter in his late twenties, serves as a petty errand boy for the union head, Johnny Friendly. The Hoboken, New Jersey port across the river from Manhattan, is the setting of the film where gangs run the docks and work in the area. The film shows realism in many different cinematic and thematic ways throughout the film. In the sense of cinematically, this film was filmed on the actual docks of New Jersey in the winter time. Kazan is able to brilliantly create the realistic port feel by filming on scene and using the natural surroundings as his canvas . The cargo ships in the background coming in and out, the slummy docks where men find work, and the local bars from the area. These natural settings and props made the film real and alive as it was what was actually going on in the ports. The background sounds on the dock ships whistles and chains clanging through metal loops add to the realistic aural environment. Kazan also uses the natural cold and winter to film in which give the film a realistic mise en scГЁne. Breaths are visible and steam up in the bone cold air. A small detail like this suggests the brutal treatment these dock workers face daily, not only from the corrupt union officials but from the elements themselves. • 47. Explain Why Christians Should Create A Society Separate... REST OF THE WORLD Consideration: Christians should create a society separate from the rest of the world. Objection 1: In the Bible, God commanded his people to go out and evangelize the rest of the world. Thus, Christians should live in a society with a non religious population and be part of the world. Objection 2: By living in a separated community, people tend to think they are greater than everyone else, thus losing the virtue of humility. Objection 3: Living in a separate society is unnecessary, as separation can cause a person to lose touch with reality. Therefore, Christians should remain in the world and not try to separate themselves from it. On the contrary: In the second book of Thessalonians 3:6, it says: Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from every brother who leads an unruly life and not according to the tradition which you received from us. The brethren of our Lord should avoid all men who are a bad influence on them. No one is condemned due to his or her religious beliefs in Utopia. A fanatic who begins condemning other religions is tried on a charge, not of despising their religion, but of creating a public disorder and is sent into exile (More 518). Does this reflect a society with utopian religious ideals? In Utopia, there are two sects of religious people the ascetic sect whose members do not marry or eat meat, and the sect that allows its members to marry and eat meat. This situation would be primarily due to their body language, eye contact, and/or confidence to name a few; it is a known fact that 95% of communication revolves around nonverbal cues such as these. This large percentage of nonverbal cues can be seen in the movie The Devil Wears Prada. He had just saved the team from losing. All his teammates ran onto the field and chanted his name. It was at this moment that I knew I loved football and wanted to feel like the guy that was number 9. Growing up, I loved playing sports. They got my mind off other things going on and was like therapy for me. My favorite sport to play was football. My parents never put me in any sports. They had just never felt the need to. My parents grew up in India with poor education and knowing little English, played a huge part in my childhood. They did not read kid s books to me and I don t remember watching all the hit shows that children my age use to watch. They were busy on putting food on the plate and focused on securing mine and my brother s future. I was always jealous of the other kids in my class of the nice clothes they wore and their connection with their parents. I would stay after school sometimes to watch kids from my grade practice on the field. I always thought that I would never be able to play as good because of my genetics. I would hate my parents for not putting me into sports and not having the right genes. I knew I would never get to be as tall or as big as them and I blamed it all on my parents. When I got into my teens, my cousin invited me to go to a flag football practice that he played for. I watched him and his other friends play and I was intrigued. As soon as I learned the rules, they put me in as the wide receiver. I was very nervous because I did not know what to expect. The quarterback called hike and I ran the play that he gave me.
