Qualitative research involves collecting and analyzing non-numerical data through methods like interviews and observations to understand behaviors, feelings, and motivations. It aims to provide a detailed description of the research topic through an open-ended and interactive inquiry approach. The researcher is the primary instrument of data collection and analysis, seeking to holistically understand the human experience from the participant's perspective through themes and rich descriptions.
Quantitative Methods of Research-Intro to research
Once a researcher has written the research question, the next step is to determine the appropriate research methodology necessary to study the question. The three main types of research design methods are qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods.
Quantitative research involves the systematic collection and analysis of data.
By the end of this presentation you should be able to:
Describe the common qualitative research approaches
Demonstrate how and when to conduct different types of qualitative research
Understand that focus group discussion and interview are not qualitative research methods or designs. They are just tools for data collection.
Grounded Theory: A specific methodology developed by Glaser and Strauss (1967) for the purpose of building theory from data. In their book the term grounded theory is used in a more sense to denote theoretical constructs derived form qualitative analysis of data.

Intravital microscopy (IVM) is a powerful tool utilized to study cellular behavior over time and space in vivo. Much of our understanding of cell biology has been accomplished using various in vitro and ex vivo methods; however, these studies do not necessarily reflect the natural dynamics of biological processes. Unlike traditional cell culture or fixed tissue imaging, IVM allows for the ultra-fast high-resolution imaging of cellular processes over time and space and were studied in its natural environment. Real-time visualization of biological processes in the context of an intact organism helps maintain physiological relevance and provide insights into the progression of disease, response to treatments or developmental processes.
In this webinar we give an overview of advanced applications of the IVM system in preclinical research. IVIM technology is a provider of all-in-one intravital microscopy systems and solutions optimized for in vivo imaging of live animal models at sub-micron resolution. The system’s unique features and user-friendly software enables researchers to probe fast dynamic biological processes such as immune cell tracking, cell-cell interaction as well as vascularization and tumor metastasis with exceptional detail. This webinar will also give an overview of IVM being utilized in drug development, offering a view into the intricate interaction between drugs/nanoparticles and tissues in vivo and allows for the evaluation of therapeutic intervention in a variety of tissues and organs. This interdisciplinary collaboration continues to drive the advancements of novel therapeutic strategies.

Richard's aventures in two entangled wonderlandsRichard Gill
Since the loophole-free Bell experiments of 2020 and the Nobel prizes in physics of 2022, critics of Bell's work have retreated to the fortress of super-determinism. Now, super-determinism is a derogatory word - it just means "determinism". Palmer, Hance and Hossenfelder argue that quantum mechanics and determinism are not incompatible, using a sophisticated mathematical construction based on a subtle thinning of allowed states and measurements in quantum mechanics, such that what is left appears to make Bell's argument fail, without altering the empirical predictions of quantum mechanics. I think however that it is a smoke screen, and the slogan "lost in math" comes to my mind. I will discuss some other recent disproofs of Bell's theorem using the language of causality based on causal graphs. Causal thinking is also central to law and justice. I will mention surprising connections to my work on serial killer nurse cases, in particular the Dutch case of Lucia de Berk and the current UK case of Lucy Letby.

Qualitative research
1.
2.
3.
4. “Qualitative Research is
collecting, analyzing, and
interpreting data by observing
what people do and say.”
Also called Exploratory &
Subjective research.
Nature of QR is open-ended
It involves use & collection
of variety of Empirical material
such as Interview ,life story etc.
5. Qualitative research uses very different methods of
collecting information, including individual, in-depth
interviews and focus groups.
Refers to the meanings, concepts, definitions,
characteristics, symbols, and descriptions of things.
It is Inquiry approach.
It involves What people think OR How they
feel…………Feelings & impressions.
6.
7. The primary aim of a Qualitative Research is to
provide a complete, detailed description of the
research topic.
Is used to gain an understanding of underlying
reasons, opinions, and motivations. It provides
insights into the problem.
Qualitative researchers
aim to gather an in-depth
understanding of human
behavior and the reasons that
govern such behavior.
8. Researcher is the primary instrument for data
collection and analysis.
Involves fieldwork.
Qualitative findings are in the form of themes,
categories, concepts or tentative hypotheses or
theories.
The product of a qualitative study is richly
descriptive.
The focus is on understanding human experience
rather than explaining and predicting behaviour.
9. Emphasizes the holistic perspective
Participant perspectives are important.
Interplay or dialogue between
researchers and participants
Data is in the form of rich
verbal descriptions
The data collection is highly
interactive
10. A doctoral student collecting data by visits a third grade classroom where
two children labeled are regular members.
She goes there several days per week staying approximately four hours
each time.
She tries to remain as unobtrusive as possible observing the natural class
environment and activities as they occur.
When she leaves each day she goes to her home computer and writes
detailed notes of everything she has seen and heard.
she begins conducting recorded interviews with the teacher and other
school staff.
She even interviews some of the parents of children in the classroom. she
asks general questions, leaving room for the respondents to raise issues
and to freely express themselves.
In conjunction with this interview information she gathers various
official documents, student evaluations, and other information related to
the class.
12. Qualitative methods are often part of survey
methodology, including telephone surveys and consumer
satisfaction surveys.
Strengths and weaknesses of products/brands
New product idea generation and development
Studying emotions and attitudes on societal and public
affairs issues.
Qualitative research is used to gain insight into people's
attitudes, behaviours, value systems, concerns, motivations,
aspirations, culture or lifestyles.
Is used in many disciplines, such as in the social sciences, in
health care and the economy.
13. Uses subjective information and participant
observation to describe the context, or natural setting
Produces more in-depth, comprehensive information.
The data in qualitative research depends on human
experience and this is more compelling and powerful
Data Is usually gathered from few individuals.
The direction and framework of research can be
revised quickly as soon as fresh information and
findings emerge.
14. The very subjectivity of the inquiry leads to difficulties
in establishing validity of the approaches and
information.
The presence of researcher in the process of data
gathering is unavoidable.
Findings can be time consuming and difficult to in
attendance in visual ways.
Its scope is limited due to the in-depth, comprehensive
data gathering approaches required.
