Personal Experience Reflection Paper
On Tuesday, January 2, 2018, we arrived for our prearranged scheduled meeting at 9: 40 AM, for our
planned 10:00 AM, UNUM Field Visit with Ms. Veronica Alvarez at the Starbucks coffee shop,
located at 11979 Garvey Ave. El Monte, CA 91732. The Field Representative continue to wait for Ms.
Alvarez that she was late for her 10 o clock appointment, when she arrived at 10:30 AM, as she exited
from a four door white Kia compact vehicle. Ms. Alvarez who was recognized from our previous
meeting with her on December 19, 2017, when she had refused to provide her statements since she
was legally represented was observed driving the said vehicle. Miss Alvarez was seen exiting the
driver side of the car as she walked in a normal gait towards our direction where we waited for Ms.
Alvarez inside the Starbucks coffee shop. We noted that the vehicle appeared to be a newer vehicle
which had a paper rear license plate.
Before Ms. Alvarez met with us at the coffee shop, we noted that she did not ambulate with any
walking devices or walking canes. She did not appear to be in any pain or any discomfort as she had
both of her hands to her side while she swayed back and forth with both of her hands to her side as she
walked briskly across the parking lot.
When Ms. Alvarez walked into the restaurant, she used her right hand to push the last door leading
into the Starbucks coffee shop. When she entered the coffee shop, Miss Alvarez apologized for being
late for her scheduled meeting while she offered

Muslim Women
The Western media disregards the faults in the Western culture and religion by falsely depicting
Muslim women as oppressed and living very uncomfortable lives. The Western media criticizes the
way women dress and states that it is a sign of female submission. They believe that women wear the
hijab to show that they are submitting to the Muslim patriarchs and the teachings of the Qur an.
Furthermore, Muslim women are portrayed as oppressed and abused by their husbands. Through this
portrayal, the Western media limits domestic violence to the Islamic culture and religion, which is
completely incorrect. In addition, Muslim women are considered helpless and voiceless in the Western
media. The media disregards that fact that there are many Muslim ... Show more content on

The Western culture disregards many factors that prove that this statement is a fallacy. The Western
media spreads false generalizations of Muslim women around the world, which results in society
believing in these fallacies. In crime dramas such as CSI or Criminal Minds, Muslim women are
almost always represented as victims of male domestic violence; women s appearances in police films
or television shows were often cut short by a male who asserts that he is in change. (Media Portrayals
of Religion: Islam). These kinds of television shows are examples of the way that the Western media
depicts Muslim women as helpless and abused. These kinds of generalizations suggest that the
Western media believes that Muslim men are more superior to Muslim women. The media disregards
that fact that this issue is not limited to the Islamic culture because it is also an issue in the Western
culture and religion. Furthermore, domestic violence is not and will never be limited to just the
Islamic religion. This is proven by the statistic that On any given day in Canada, more than 3,300
(along with their 3,000 children) are forced to sleep in an emergency shelter to escape domestic
violence. Every night, about 200 women are turned away because the shelters are full (The Facts
about Violence against Women). This statistic shows that domestic violence occurs

Similarities in James Thurber´s The Dog that Bit People...
Mark Twain and James Thurber use conflict and figurative language to develop and enhance their
humorous writing. Although conflict can be humorous in itself, the way conflict is presented and the
author s tone used with the conflict can greatly increase the humorous effect. Mark Twain s short
story, A Toast to the Oldest Inhabitant: The Weather of New England, pokes fun at the uncertainty of
New England weather, while Thurber s short story, The Dog That Bit People, explores the adventures
of a unique, matchless dog. Both authors have a very relaxed, casual, and sometimes satirical tone.
The tone expressed by Twain and Thurber leads to very humorous moods in these two short stories.
Conflict, having the ability to control the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along with Twain, Thurber adds hyperbole to his writing: Major Moberly fired at him once with his
service revolver near the Seneca Hotel in East Broad Street (526). While people have gotten very
angry at Muggs, no policeman has actually ever shot at him. Understatement, speaking of things as if
they were less important than they are, is another tool Twain and Thurber use to add humor. You fix up
for the drought . . . and ten to one you get drowned. You make up your mind that an earthquake is due
. . . and the first thing you know, you get struck by lightning. These are great disappointments (Twain
523). Twain suggests that getting drowned or struck by lightning are just disappointments, while in
actuality, these events are catastrophic. Thurber writes, He just bumped you, after Muggs had bitten
Mrs. Detweiler (529). Being an example of understatement, getting bit by a dog is actually much
worse than just getting bumped. An author s diction can also aid in creating a humorous short story.
Mark Twain uses the words sumptuous variety, dazzling uncertainty, peculiar, utterly disproportioned,
and bewitching when describing the weather in New England (521 523). These words expand upon
the reader s understanding of the uniqueness of the weather, the hyperboles, and the understatements.
Similarly, Thurber s unique diction shows with the words he uses to describe

The World Needs a Little Courtesy Essay
The World Needs a Little Courtesy
Doesn t anyone show common courtesy anymore? When I was younger, I never knew what my
parents meant when I heard them ask that question. I thought people were polite. I never had any
problems with rude people. Now that I am older, and actually experience people outside of school, I
understand what my parents meant.
What happened to people saying Excuse me when they want to walk past you? Don t people know
what it means when someone says this to them? When I say Excuse me to someone the individual

I do expect that when someone is walking through a door and he or she sees someone else
approaching the same door that he or she doesn t just let the door shut. Is the individual in that much
of a hurry that he or she can t wait two more seconds for the other person to get to the door?
Are the people who don t hold doors the same people who don t say Thank you ? It isn t difficult to
thank someone for doing something nice. A stranger took two seconds of his or her day to do
something for you. It only takes two seconds to thank him or her for it. Even a smile would be enough,
and that only takes one second.
What about the common courtesy of not interrupting a conversation? I was taught that it was rude to
interrupt someone else s conversation. There is a woman I work with who will interrupt every
conversation she happens upon. It doesn t matter who is talking, what they are talking about, whom
they are talking to, or whether or not she is involved. This woman will walk into the office and start
talking, as though no one else was speaking! It tends to make the speaker feel unimportant. Maybe
that is why she does it. She doesn t feel important unless she is talking. It is possible she didn t realize
anyone was talking, but for it to happen as often as it does seems a little ridiculous. Interrupting phone
conversations is

Why Blonsky Is My Favorite Villain
Villain There are many villains that are in many movies and shows. A villain is someone who is the
bad guy who tries to destroy or hurt the hero of the story. Villains can come in many different shapes
and sizes, race and ethnicities. This one villain that catches my eyes is Abomination. The reason to
why he is my favorite villain is because he starts off by hating the hulk. Before the abomination turns
to what it was Blonsky. As they are fighting, Blonsky stands up to hulk as he is still in human for
which I think takes a lot of guts to do because hulk is a huge guy. Blonsky has a way to get hulk to
chase him to get hulk to go into a trap. Blonsky shows a great amount of speed to run away for the
gigantic hulk that is trying to kill him.

Feminist Student Culture And The Issues Of Postsecondary...
The purpose of this literature review is to synthesize and discuss feminist student culture and the
issues in postsecondary education. First, the paper reviews the various definitions and movements
surrounding feminism. In addition, the paper analyzes the perspectives of women and men and
whether they support or are against feminist student culture. Lastly, the paper discusses
recommendations and future research for student affairs professions to maintain feminist student
culture in higher education.
Understanding feminism
Feminism in the United States is often separated into three waves (Vaccaro, 2009, Vernet Butera,
2005). The first wave began during the late 1800s to early 20th century, women began fighting for
gender equality, emancipation, and economic rights, which lasted through the woman suffrage
movement (Breen Karpinski, 2008; Vaccaro, 2009; Vernet Butera, 2005). Dissatisfied with women s
status, women fought for social, economical, and political equality by ratifying the 19th Amendment.
However, anti feminists viewed gender equality as a minor issue and compared women to uncivilized
populations (Vernet Butera, 2005). After ratifying the 19th Amendment, the second wave peeked
during 1960s to 1970 s social movement. Women wanted control of their bodies, freely chosen
maternity, end domestic violence, and equality in a male society (Vernet Butera, 2005). The gap
between the first and second wave was separated by a long hiatus period but inspired campus

Alice In Quantumland 2014
Alice in Quantumland, speaks about a law of the quantum world, which shows that electrons have no
distinguishing features except for their spin. This law being all electrons are identical, except that
some spin up, whereas others spin down. The electrons even spin at the same speed. This allows them
to interact harmoniously with each other and to find pairs within their space based only on each other
s spins. In the novel, Alice noted that nearby was another similar looking figure to the electron, to
which the new acquaintance explained was a different electron. In the story, this principle is illustrated
by some electron beings carrying umbrellas which are either pointed up, and some electron beings

The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle states that no particle can have well defined clear values for
both position and speed; consequently, no particle can be stationary because any stationary particle
would have a clearly defined speed value of zero. In the analogy presented by Gilmore, electrons are
able to obtain loans of energy from their local bank, allowing them to exist. The energy they are
loaned becomes their rest mass energy. This principle, perhaps, is the most difficult to compare to the
macro world. The idea that there exists a quantity or measurement for lack of a better word that cannot
be measured is difficult to reconcile with the average human mind. Though there exist equal realms of
ambiguity and no definite in the macro world, such as justice and legality, or emotion and rationality
(as provided by Gilmore), the notion of an immeasurable quantity is one many cannot grasp. This
places the Heisenberg uncertainty Principle most at odds with the macro world, as in the real world,
humans go about their existence with definite: For example, the bus will arrive to take a man to work
at 09:05; a day is 24 hours long, America gained its independence in the year 1776, and there are 8
periods in our school day. That is to say, humans take solace in the definite of numbers as a source of
definite when all else is seemingly variable and perhaps even more so when everything

Similarities Between Theatre And Hospitality Industry
Comparing theatre and the hospitality industry is like comparing apples and oranges they have a
surprising amount of similarities while retaining their own individual characteristics. Theatre is the art
of performing on stage. Employees have a wide range of skills in order to produce a performance that
guests will enjoy. On the opposite side of the spectrum, hospitality involves restaurant and hotel
management, event planning, and tourism. Much of the industry is centered around providing the best
experience possible for customers, as is theatre. While hospitality workers are not actors or crew
members, employees in both industries strive to provide the best experience for their guests. Both
theatre and hospitality offer intangible goods and services, require a great amount of practice outside
of the classroom, and put an emphasis on design. Theatre and hospitality both focus on intangible
goods and services to provide the best experience for their guests. Theatre is all about the experience;

Theatre, event planning, and tourism all emphasize intangible goods and services more than tangible
ones. The guest experience is the most valuable asset. However, in restaurants and hotels, it is the
opposite; guests focus on the quality of the physical goods more than the service. Employees of both
theatre and hospitality need experience outside of the classroom in order to become truly successful in
their field. There is only so much one can learn about these skills; it is necessary to have a balance
between experience and knowledge in order to apply it. Lastly, the theatre and hospitality industries
both emphasize design, but to different extents. On the surface, theatre and hospitality appear to be
very different, but they contain many of the same core

Da Vinci created many inventions, paintings, and even study many subjects. But he was mainly an
artist. He painted the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. But those weren t his only paintings he had
many more. These were just the painting that most inspired people to paint like him. (Mona Lisa). He
was also an engineer and sketch many machines. His most famous ones were his flying machine,
submarine, and clock. (Ornithopter). He also learned more about the human body. Which is also
known as anatomy. He would dissect and do autopsies on people to see what the inside of people s
bodies looked like. He sketched many drawings of what organs and bones looked liked. (Sooke).

The Perfect Off Road Car Purchasing a vehicle requires a lot of research to make sure you get a good

Kelley Blue Book stated that if I wanted this car with all my requirements, then it would cost me
between $8,126 $10,607. This is a bit expensive. I picked my budget to be $10,000 because I believe
if I work the right summer jobs I can earn enough by the time I need the car. My parents have agreed
to pay for college, so I can use the money I earn for a car by the time I go to college. This is a very
high price for my budget, as I still need to pay for gas and insurance. If I go cheap in the $8,000 range,
though, the car will probably have hidden faults or won t be as reliable. This car is very compact with
4 person seating. This makes it easily maneuverable. This is a problem if I would like to drive lots of
people around like friends or family. This car has a very high miles per gallon. Kelley Blue Book puts
it as 14 MPG for the city and 18 MPG for the highway and it says it takes gas. This would make gas
very expensive, and I might not be able to pay for that amount of gas. The car I am looking at is the
2003 model because I m not able to afford anything newer and it should be reliable enough until I get
a new car. This car I chose not to buy because of high gas mileage, high price, and because it doesn t

Ikea And Pan Am Case Study
Introduction
From its very beginning, IKEA, the world s largest furniture retailer, experienced much success
(Loeb). Similarly, Pan American World Airways, or Pan Am, was the principal international air carrier
of the United States for most of its lifetime (Banning). However, when Pan Am went bankrupt in
1991, the company became known as one of the biggest failures in the industry. To examine why
IKEA and Pan Am had such different outcomes despite their similar beginnings, one must start with
learning the history of each company.
History of IKEA
It all started in 1943, when Ingvar Kamprad opened his first commercial business in the name of
IKEA, which derives from his initials and of Elmtaryd and Agunnaryd, the names of his family farm
and the parish in which he grew up. At first, it was just a mail order business selling pencils, postcards,
and other merchandise ( Milestones ). When the company first introduced furniture as a complement
to the general merchandise in 1948, it was an immediate success. As a result, the company started
exploring innovating solutions such as furniture design, self assembly, and advertising ( Milestones ).
The 1950s marked many milestones for the company. In 1951, IKEA published the first annual IKEA
furniture catalogue, and in 1953, it opened its first showroom ( Milestones ). In 1958, the first IKEA
store opened in Älmhult, Sweden. The IKEA brand started to take shape in the 1960s and 1970s, as
new stores opened and the company

Alfred Hitchcock Rear Window
Alfred Hitchcock s 1954 Rear Window is full of characterization, narratives and symbolism. The film
focuses around the main character of the story, Jefferies, who is a photographer but unfortunately
recently has to use a wheelchair and stay in an apartment because he broke his leg. Jeff has to spend
time alone, so he spends his time watching his neighbors through his camera. Due to the warmth of
summer most people had to open their window so now Jefferies can see what is happening in their
life. It s like he is watching multiple films at the same time. A free cinema for Jefferies. The view of
that window and Jefferies s apartment is all the viewers have.
We spent the whole time in the main protagonist s apartment. His apartment is in Greenwich Village,
New York City. The camera never leaves his apartment because Jeff can t leave his own apartment.
Which limits it to one room and the view out of his rear window. Alfred Hitchcock really wants to put
us in Jefferies s shoes, that s why the camera never leaves his apartment and we are bound to see
outside from his point of view. The camera man uses shots zooming, which make the film look more
realistic and makes it seem like we are viewing this through Jeff s perspective. As the camera moves
around some characters might go to the other side of their room which has no window. This shows ...

As a viewer we spend every minute by Jefferies s side, seeing everything he s seeing and stuck in his

Those are some qualification for considering Rear Window a first person film although it doesn t
entirely fit the definition. The mood of this film can be considered both restless and suspenseful. It
seems like Hitchcock is punishing Jeff. Maybe he is being punished for his

The Functions And Uses Of Different Servers For Small Web...
E Commerce
Describe the functions and use of different servers in benefitting in small web presence business

Web Server A Web server can refer to the hardware or the software which helps deliver content from
the web which can be accessed through the internet. The most common types of web servers are used
to host websites and also used to host gaming servers and also handling e mails.
The use of a web server is to store, process and deliver websites to clients. Generally the
communication is between the server and the client by Hypertext Transfer Protocol which is also

Every printer with the right type of connector can be useable with all print servers; producers of
servers make an available list of compatible printers because a server may not implement the
communications functionality. An example of this would be low ink signals for either or black ink or
coloured.
These are really beneficial for a small company as they are reasonably cheap and can be used to
promote the business by printing of leaflets or posters; it can also be used to print documents to use as
portable copies.
File Server A file server is computer which is attached to a network. The purpose of this is providing a
location for a shared disk access which Is a storage for all computer files, these can be things such as
documents, photos, videos and databases. A file server can be accessed by workstations which are
connected to the same computer network.
It is not intended to run programs on behalf of clients. It is designed to enable the storage and retrieval
of data while the computations are carried out by the work station. These types of servers are
commonly found in schools and larger offices where the users will use LAN (Local Area Network) to
connect their client s computers, this allows users to share information without having to physically
transfer files by an external storage device or sending attachments by email.
These are not currently advisable in a small business this is due to the limited number of employees at

Unit 1 Assignment 2 Biometrics
This report started with a motivational empirical study of the usability, security, and privacy of
enhanced fingerprint authentication as compared to password based authentication. This study
revealed that the password based authentication lacks usability and security, while the privacy
enhanced fingerprint authentication is more usable than password based authentication. However
fingerprint data on the cloud poses a greater likelihood for attacks. A risk assessment was conducted to
evaluate the adequacy of controls available to mitigate the risks. Based on a threshold set for the
residual risk, a roadmap was established to close the gap on the lack of controls.
The solutions presented in the report have an edge over different models. The reason is that, once an
attacker obtains access to a unique finger impression template, he can claim to be a validated client.

What Role Do The Witches Play In Macbeth
The witches play a vital role in Macbeth; they all have supernatural powers in which they use to feed

Macbeth was written in The Middle Ages. Shakespeare was inspired by England and Scotland. He
also uses many literary devices like foreshadowing. A perfect example is when Macbeth hears a voice
while he is killing King Duncan. It foreshadows the insomnia that plagues Lady Macbeth and
Macbeth. Another literary device is situational and dramatic irony. When Lady Macbeth dies, the
reader expects that Macbeth is going to suicide or to get crazy because it was his wife and the one
whom he could relieve his conscious, but he just stays calm and denies that death is normal in life.

The Pros And Cons Of Cambodian Labour
When Angkorian society began, Paris and London were not much more than elaborate villages.
Europe was crawling with barbarians, and here were the Khmer engineering sophisticated irrigation
systems and constructing the biggest temple in the world. Kim Fay
Six centuries of the Khmer dynasty saw incomparable technological progress and prosperity.
However, since the dark ages, Cambodia has faced major problems especially with regard to labour.
With a population of approximately 16.1 million (2017), one of the major positives of the Cambodian
labour force lies in the numbers. Able bodied individuals, especially youngsters (who make up the
majority) are readily available for work. However, due to globalisation, the market and the economy
of Cambodia has become highly volatile and dynamic.
The major challenge that recruiters face while selecting Cambodians for jobs is that there is a serious
lack of technical and hard skills, soft skills, flexibility and innovative thinking. These shortages can be
attributed to the general lack of broader educational opportunities which further their employability.

Face is an individual s honour, reputation and standing in society. Since Cambodia is a hierarchical
society, an employee is likely to listen to and agree with the employer. Because of this, a Khmer
employee is likely to show understanding of instructions when there is none. They would bend over
backwards to cover up for another employee rather than pointing out their fault because being told
about their inadequacy and exhibiting anger is seen as a loss of face (Goldberg, 2012).
Work comes after family and social network on the priority list for most Cambodians (Darren

the event of a personal problem without informing the employer. The recruitment process therefore

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Black Holes
The sixty symbols website has quite the collection of intriguing astronomical theories and interviews,
but I specifically chose that of the black hole that contains interviews by Omar Almaini, Ed Copeland,
Tony Padilla, Meghan Gray and Mike Merrifield from the University of Nottingham. The video began
by a man revealing to his audience that he is often questioned about his personal opinion on black
holes, which he informs us that of course he sees them as frightening and intimidating but goes on to
refer to them as cuddly . Upon further explanation he points out two small (but different sized), round,
black balls of fabric (that seemed to be knitted) that were gifts for his sister in law and they are meant
to be representation of black holes with their solid black exterior. This seems like a useless example,

We By Yevgeny Zamyatin And The Island Of Dr. Moreau
Deep literature analysis provides insight in understanding all of the differences and similarities
between two cultures. Slavic and Western culture have been seen as direct opposites throughout the
20th century due to the cold war. But how different are these cultures exactly? The novel We by
Yevgeny Zamyatin and The Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G. Wells explores the philosophy behind
human nature, ethics, and society. These sci fi works have similar themes, but the differences in how
they approach them can be related to their specific culture. This is shown through the use of
comparing humans to animals and machines, the impact of control on the human mind, the way
surveillance affects society, different states of consciousness, religious ... Show more content on

The repetition of the none escape furthers this idea. Control is another mechanism used to dominate
the human s behavior. In the United State, the societal governmental faction in We is said to control
the two main qualities of humans which are hunger and love. This statement is proven by The Tables
and the designated tickets to be able to have sex. Throughout We, D 503 becomes more individualistic
the less he allows complete control over his life. As the novel progresses, the journal entries become
smaller in length. As D 503 becomes more aware of his emotions, he is not able to express his
thoughts. This results in less writing and less mathematical analogies that are prevalent throughout the
novel. This shows that the less control that is being placed in the government will result in the loss of
human mechanization. Control also plays a large role in The Island of Dr. Moreau. Dr. Moreau tries to
maintain the creatures human behaviors through the use of control. A similar pattern is seen in The
Island of Dr. Moreau because the more the humanoids rebel against Dr. Moreau s command, the more
they revert back to their animal instincts. The turning point in the novel is when Prendrick plants the
seeds of rebellion by having the humanoids question Montgomery s authority and having an
indifference to him. Although there are many similarities between the two novels, they both view the

Student Centered Learning Methods vs. Teacher Centered Learning Methods
Abstract
The different types of student centered learning methods are described and compared to teacher
centered approaches. Different studies were researched with mixed results. Student centered methods,
when applied to secondary education students and above, provide social and emotional value to the
students and improve reasoning and creative ability. Teacher centered methods work best in the
primary grades and with students faced with low SES.

The categories are: active, cooperative and inductive. In active learning students solve problems,
answer questions, formulate their own questions and brainstorm to acquire knowledge. Cooperative
learning involves students working in teams on problems or projects and creates interdependence and
individual accountability. Inductive methods begin when the teacher presents students with a specific
challenge to solve. Different forms of inductive teaching include: inquiry method, case based, problem
based, project based, discovery and just in time teaching (Prince Felder 14 20).
Results
Studies conducted on each method, in order to find out if there are any significant differences in
achievement between one, and or the other, have proved to be a mixed bag of results and thus have
clouded the picture further. The results reported by Prince and Felder show the inductive learning
methods they discussed were more effective in science, medical and other health related fields.
Specifically in college level courses (14 20). A similar study reported by W.J. McKeachie at the
University of Michigan concurred with Prince and Felder on tests involving reasoning and creativity.
However, test scores of the students in teacher centered environments were higher for overall
achievement (McKeachie 147 149). In a book by Jeanne S. Chall entitled The Academic Challenge:

In 1984, a Canadian flight attendant died of AIDS because of his sexual connection to a number of the
first victims of HIV/AIDS. It was assumed that he was responsible for introducing the virus into the
general population. In the same year, Western scientists became aware that HIV/AIDS was widespread
in parts of Africa. Also, the world s first needle exchange program was set up in Amsterdam, the
Netherlands.
One of the first high profile victims of HIV/AIDS was Rock Hudson, an American gay actor who had
been married and divorced earlier in life, who died on October 2, 1985 having announced that he was
suffering from the virus on 25th of July that year. He had been diagnosed during 1984. A notable
British casualty of HIV/AIDS that year was Nicholas Eden, a gay Member of Parliament and son of
the late Prime Minister Anthony Eden.
In the same year, an HIV test was licensed for screening blood supplies. AIDS was found in China,
and had therefore been seen in all regions of the world.
In 1986, more than 38,000 cases of HIV/AIDS have been reported from 85 countries. In 1987, AZT
was approved as a drug used for treating HIV/AIDS. The next year, the American government
conducts a national HIV/AIDS education campaign. Health ministers met to discuss AIDS and
established the World AIDS Day. In 1990, around 8 million people were living with HIV worldwide.

Personal Profit s Crucial Role in Defining a Human Being
Personal Profit s Crucial Role in Defining a Human Being
College. The word brings to mind the struggle of being accepted to a top tier university. The intense
competition seen in high schools around the country to earn a seat in prestigious schools can consume
student s lives to such a degree as to corrupt their sense of place. The competition drives students to
commit uncharacteristic and almost unconceivable actions. Many cheat their way into college by
manipulating affirmative action and as a result intentionally sabotage a peer s chances of succeeding.
This pursuit highlights a false sense of entitlement among students and fosters a hostile feeling toward
peers. A similar situation is seen throughout many works of literature such as Heart of Darkness, by
Joseph Conrad, where a mariner named Marlow, who uncovers the mysteries and horrors of the
African interior, seeks to meet an esteemed figure named Kurtz. When Marlow discovers Kurtz s true
nature and actions, he realizes the extreme degree of corruptness the human race possesses. In Heart
of Darkness, Joseph Conrad suggests that humans only seek personal profit, shown through character
relationships between Marlow and the African natives, the manager, and Kurtz.
Heart of Darkness depicts the corrupt nature of humanity by illustrating Africans who sold out their
own race to Europeans and enslaved them solely for the personal gain of not becoming a slave
themselves. When Conrad originally visits the Outer Station,

The global poultry trade has been, and continues to be one of the fastest growing meat trades of the
last few years (Davis, 2015). The poultry industry has over the years has been faced a multitude of
challenges; this report explores factors that influence international trade, whilst explaining how a firm
s competitive advantage can be altered as a change in tariffs and quotas. From a Senior Managers
perspective, the report will also identify potential obstacles that a North American poultry firm may

are several factors that immediately give the company a competitive advantage. Typically, as a

productivity which results in greater exports and an improved competitive advantage. Using Tyson
Foods as an example, a senior manager would constantly seek out opportunities to excel their firm
further ahead of its competitors. One way that Tyson food s upholds it s impressive competitive

1906 San Francisco Earthquake Research Paper
Famous for its Golden Gate Bridge, street cars traveling up and down the hilly city, and a haunted
prison abandoned on Alcatraz Island, San Francisco is a city unlike any other. San Francisco during
the early 1900s, too was a great city. It was on the rise from the gold rush and a fairly new
transcontinental railroad that connected the growing western city to the rest of the united states.
On April, 18 1906, San Francisco would be divested by several disasters. That morning at five, the
San Andreas Fault shifted, resulting in an earthquake with a strength of 7.8 on the Richter Scale. It
shocked San Francisco and the surrounding areas. The quake lasted 45 seconds to one minute only,
and caused major damage and loss of life. The buildings in San Francisco during the time were largely
made of wood and some of the newly built ones were made of brick and stone. City officials worked
with builders for this change in response to six fires that occurred closely together before the
earthquake, (Gunn, 2008). The new brick buildings could survive a fire, but it was ... Show more

chaos that city officials and emergency services had to endure, was the fact that there was no water to
mitigate the fires, since there was no water pressure from the water mains that broke during the quake.
The problem that they faced was a possibility they thought could happen. However, they never did
anything to avoid the fact that the water mains would fail them in result of an earthquake. A plan had
even been made to pump water from the San Francisco bay, however it was never implemented,

number of gangs, gang members and gang related crimes in each city. In Inglewood, almost all the
neighborhoods were claimed by at least one gang, with gang unit officers agreeing that the city was

migration from other cities was thought to be the primary cause of an increase in gang members. 50%
of crime in Las Vegas is attributed to gangs, with most officers believing they had a moderate to major
gang problem. In Phoenix, the gang problem is described as wave like, with 70% of gang unit officers
thinking the city had a major gang problem. These statistics were backed up through interviews with
officers and city records. Chapter five, Form, Function and Management of the Police Gang Unit,

The Importance Of Second Language Acquisition
Abstract
An interesting phenomenon in the research of second language acquisition is that learners seem to
acquire English grammatical morphemes in a certain order, regardless of their native languages, ages,
and learning environments. Furthermore, technique of instruction and data collection seem to have
little effect on the acquisition order. This study attempts to investigate the morpheme acquisition order
in the writing of Arabic students learning English at king Faisal University, KSA. Data collected from
twenty placements tests is examined for fourteen grammatical morphemes and the participants from
Saudi Arabian male students at king Faisal University. The acquisition order obtained is compared to
orders, found in previous studies. The study does not find a significant correlation between second
language acquisition order and first language acquisition order, but high correlations between this
study s sequence and those in five other second language acquisition studies give further strength to
the idea of a universal ESL morpheme acquisition order.
Introduction
In the late fifties the predominant view of language learning was Skinner s (1957) behaviorist theory
which claimed that learning proceeds according to a series of stimulus/response associations and
reinforcement. This view has changed since Chrosky s proposal (1957 1965) that the task, of learning
a language is not learning a vast number of sentences, as Skinner believed, but rather learning a
system of rules

The Dark Ages Of The Middle Ages
The Renaissance was the period in European history that referred how people were finally learning
about the Classical antiquity. It also marked the translation from the Middle Ages to the Modern
world. The length of the period lasted from 14th century to the 17th century, but it forever changed the
Western World.
People during the Renaissance viewed the other periods throughout history differently.
Everyone was worshipping the Classical antiquity since the people were free to think and question
while the Middle Ages caused people to go into silence for fears of punishment. They were most
disgusted with the Middle Ages because of how much it wasn t the Classical antiquity. The Dark Ages,
a nickname for the Middle Ages made by the Renaissance, were often described the backwards
civilization that had formed after the Western Roman Empire collapsed. However, Classical antiquity
appealed every Renaissance man and woman because their artworks and ruins were found all over
Europe and it caused people to be curious about it. Once they learn of the Romans and the Greeks, it
led to people coming up with their own ideas while challenging the Catholic Church s ideas. Once the
Renaissance began and spread across Europe, major discoveries would forever change world history.
There were several discoveries going on during the Renaissance that forever changed the world. One
of those most important discoveries was the exploration of the New World. Christopher Columbus, the

The Rhetorical Analysis Of The King s Speech
In the film The King s Speech , written by David Seidler and released on November 26, 2010, the
filmmaker portrays Albert being constantly under pressure for speaking correctly, by comparing his
speech to great broadcasters who are anything but great leaders. The pressure that comes from Albert s
father, King George V, results in more frustration for the both of them, without either of them realising
that to lead a country into greatness depends more on just speaking well. Throughout the film, there
had been ideal speech models like Hitler, David, and King George V, shown in order to compare their
speech to Albert s and to show what a great speaker has to sound in order to gain the public s support.
Ironically, all of those speech perfect models turned out to be egocentric individuals and the least
egotistical leader, Albert, is the one with the impaired speech. I argue that in The King s Speech , the
characters who serve as models of ideal speech are figures of oppression, therefore the author is
implying that the idea of having ideal speech does not live up to it s praise.
Oppressive leaders like Hitler have used public speaking in order to bring destruction to the world like
war. In the scene when the royal family is watching him on the projector, Hitler is controlling a mass
army while speaking with a powerful tone in a fast and concise pace. Hitler s body language also

modern technology seems to continually outpace expectations of what can be reproduced in a virtual

On a more practical point, the level shouldn t be censored or deleted because it s actually unrealistic.
This, coupled with the fact the nature of the game necessarily entails violence, helps to provide an
argument for the fact the controversy surrounding the level is unwarranted. Perhaps most importantly,
the level No Russian introduces players to a take on the reality of the post 9/11 world. Video games
are known to create fantasy situations that remove the player from reality. The Call of Duty Series, on
the other hand, portrays situations that can occur in the real world, such as terrorist activities. Granted,
elements of fantasy still exist even within the Call of Duty Series, such as fighting the Russians in the
suburbs of Washington, through familiar looking subdivisions and strip malls before storming the
White House itself (Schiesel). Yet, particularly, the No Russian level plays upon the emotions of the
gamer and provokes them to consider what s really happening. The connection between airports and
potential terrorism is nothing new. In January 2011 part of the main terminal at Washington Dulles
International Airport in Virginia was shut down for hours after a suspicious package was discovered
near the baggage claim area (MSNBC). Although, it s unrealistic that terrorists would come into an

heats up quickly and bakes quickly. A convection model will ensure even baking and perfect results.
The close proximity of the heating elements in a toaster oven lead to perfectly browned tops. I m
getting hungry just thinking about these delectable treats!
While these stuffed mushrooms may be a special high calorie indulgence not meant for everyday
consumption, I still try to make them a bit healthier than traditional fare. I do this by using extra virgin
olive oil rather than butter and fresh whole wheat bread crumbs rather than store bought ... Show more

Gently pull the stems off of the cleaned mushrooms and chop very finely (stems only.) Finely mince
the red onion and the garlic (use a garlic press if you have one.) Sautee the chopped mushroom stems,
minced red onion and minced garlic in the extra virgin olive oil until tender. Transfer to a large mixing
bowl. Use your food processor to process the whole wheat bread into fine bread crumbs and add to
onion and mushroom mixture along with the shredded cheddar cheese, Worcestershire sauce, sea salt
and black pepper. Mix everything very gently till well combined.
Put the filtered water and the mushroom caps in a shallow baking dish that will fit in your toaster
oven. Fill mushroom caps with the mixture, mounding over the top. Bake in your toaster oven for 20
minutes. Enjoy!

  • 2. Personal Experience Reflection Paper On Tuesday, January 2, 2018, we arrived for our prearranged scheduled meeting at 9: 40 AM, for our planned 10:00 AM, UNUM Field Visit with Ms. Veronica Alvarez at the Starbucks coffee shop, located at 11979 Garvey Ave. El Monte, CA 91732. The Field Representative continue to wait for Ms. Alvarez that she was late for her 10 o clock appointment, when she arrived at 10:30 AM, as she exited from a four door white Kia compact vehicle. Ms. Alvarez who was recognized from our previous meeting with her on December 19, 2017, when she had refused to provide her statements since she was legally represented was observed driving the said vehicle. Miss Alvarez was seen exiting the driver side of the car as she walked in a normal gait towards our direction where we waited for Ms. Alvarez inside the Starbucks coffee shop. We noted that the vehicle appeared to be a newer vehicle which had a paper rear license plate. Before Ms. Alvarez met with us at the coffee shop, we noted that she did not ambulate with any walking devices or walking canes. She did not appear to be in any pain or any discomfort as she had both of her hands to her side while she swayed back and forth with both of her hands to her side as she walked briskly across the parking lot. When Ms. Alvarez walked into the restaurant, she used her right hand to push the last door leading into the Starbucks coffee shop. When she entered the coffee shop, Miss Alvarez apologized for being late for her scheduled meeting while she offered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Muslim Women The Western media disregards the faults in the Western culture and religion by falsely depicting Muslim women as oppressed and living very uncomfortable lives. The Western media criticizes the way women dress and states that it is a sign of female submission. They believe that women wear the hijab to show that they are submitting to the Muslim patriarchs and the teachings of the Qur an. Furthermore, Muslim women are portrayed as oppressed and abused by their husbands. Through this portrayal, the Western media limits domestic violence to the Islamic culture and religion, which is completely incorrect. In addition, Muslim women are considered helpless and voiceless in the Western media. The media disregards that fact that there are many Muslim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Western culture disregards many factors that prove that this statement is a fallacy. The Western media spreads false generalizations of Muslim women around the world, which results in society believing in these fallacies. In crime dramas such as CSI or Criminal Minds, Muslim women are almost always represented as victims of male domestic violence; women s appearances in police films or television shows were often cut short by a male who asserts that he is in change. (Media Portrayals of Religion: Islam). These kinds of television shows are examples of the way that the Western media depicts Muslim women as helpless and abused. These kinds of generalizations suggest that the Western media believes that Muslim men are more superior to Muslim women. The media disregards that fact that this issue is not limited to the Islamic culture because it is also an issue in the Western culture and religion. Furthermore, domestic violence is not and will never be limited to just the Islamic religion. This is proven by the statistic that On any given day in Canada, more than 3,300 (along with their 3,000 children) are forced to sleep in an emergency shelter to escape domestic violence. Every night, about 200 women are turned away because the shelters are full (The Facts about Violence against Women). This statistic shows that domestic violence occurs ... • 4. Similarities in James Thurber´s The Dog that Bit People... Mark Twain and James Thurber use conflict and figurative language to develop and enhance their humorous writing. Although conflict can be humorous in itself, the way conflict is presented and the author s tone used with the conflict can greatly increase the humorous effect. Mark Twain s short story, A Toast to the Oldest Inhabitant: The Weather of New England, pokes fun at the uncertainty of New England weather, while Thurber s short story, The Dog That Bit People, explores the adventures of a unique, matchless dog. Both authors have a very relaxed, casual, and sometimes satirical tone. The tone expressed by Twain and Thurber leads to very humorous moods in these two short stories. Conflict, having the ability to control the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Along with Twain, Thurber adds hyperbole to his writing: Major Moberly fired at him once with his service revolver near the Seneca Hotel in East Broad Street (526). While people have gotten very angry at Muggs, no policeman has actually ever shot at him. Understatement, speaking of things as if they were less important than they are, is another tool Twain and Thurber use to add humor. You fix up for the drought . . . and ten to one you get drowned. You make up your mind that an earthquake is due . . . and the first thing you know, you get struck by lightning. These are great disappointments (Twain 523). Twain suggests that getting drowned or struck by lightning are just disappointments, while in actuality, these events are catastrophic. Thurber writes, He just bumped you, after Muggs had bitten Mrs. Detweiler (529). Being an example of understatement, getting bit by a dog is actually much worse than just getting bumped. An author s diction can also aid in creating a humorous short story. Mark Twain uses the words sumptuous variety, dazzling uncertainty, peculiar, utterly disproportioned, and bewitching when describing the weather in New England (521 523). These words expand upon the reader s understanding of the uniqueness of the weather, the hyperboles, and the understatements. Similarly, Thurber s unique diction shows with the words he uses to describe ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The World Needs a Little Courtesy Essay The World Needs a Little Courtesy Doesn t anyone show common courtesy anymore? When I was younger, I never knew what my parents meant when I heard them ask that question. I thought people were polite. I never had any problems with rude people. Now that I am older, and actually experience people outside of school, I understand what my parents meant. What happened to people saying Excuse me when they want to walk past you? Don t people know what it means when someone says this to them? When I say Excuse me to someone the individual stares at me as if I just spoke a foreign language or said something insulting. Then the individual still doesn t move. I don t know how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I do expect that when someone is walking through a door and he or she sees someone else approaching the same door that he or she doesn t just let the door shut. Is the individual in that much of a hurry that he or she can t wait two more seconds for the other person to get to the door? Are the people who don t hold doors the same people who don t say Thank you ? It isn t difficult to thank someone for doing something nice. A stranger took two seconds of his or her day to do something for you. It only takes two seconds to thank him or her for it. Even a smile would be enough, and that only takes one second. What about the common courtesy of not interrupting a conversation? I was taught that it was rude to interrupt someone else s conversation. There is a woman I work with who will interrupt every conversation she happens upon. It doesn t matter who is talking, what they are talking about, whom they are talking to, or whether or not she is involved. This woman will walk into the office and start talking, as though no one else was speaking! It tends to make the speaker feel unimportant. Maybe that is why she does it. She doesn t feel important unless she is talking. It is possible she didn t realize anyone was talking, but for it to happen as often as it does seems a little ridiculous. • 9. Feminist Student Culture And The Issues Of Postsecondary... The purpose of this literature review is to synthesize and discuss feminist student culture and the issues in postsecondary education. First, the paper reviews the various definitions and movements surrounding feminism. In addition, the paper analyzes the perspectives of women and men and whether they support or are against feminist student culture. Lastly, the paper discusses recommendations and future research for student affairs professions to maintain feminist student culture in higher education. Understanding feminism Feminism in the United States is often separated into three waves (Vaccaro, 2009, Vernet Butera, 2005). The first wave began during the late 1800s to early 20th century, women began fighting for gender equality, emancipation, and economic rights, which lasted through the woman suffrage movement (Breen Karpinski, 2008; Vaccaro, 2009; Vernet Butera, 2005). Dissatisfied with women s status, women fought for social, economical, and political equality by ratifying the 19th Amendment. However, anti feminists viewed gender equality as a minor issue and compared women to uncivilized populations (Vernet Butera, 2005). After ratifying the 19th Amendment, the second wave peeked during 1960s to 1970 s social movement. Women wanted control of their bodies, freely chosen maternity, end domestic violence, and equality in a male society (Vernet Butera, 2005). This law being all electrons are identical, except that some spin up, whereas others spin down. The electrons even spin at the same speed. This allows them to interact harmoniously with each other and to find pairs within their space based only on each other s spins. In the novel, Alice noted that nearby was another similar looking figure to the electron, to which the new acquaintance explained was a different electron. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle states that no particle can have well defined clear values for both position and speed; consequently, no particle can be stationary because any stationary particle would have a clearly defined speed value of zero. In the analogy presented by Gilmore, electrons are able to obtain loans of energy from their local bank, allowing them to exist. The energy they are loaned becomes their rest mass energy. This principle, perhaps, is the most difficult to compare to the macro world. The idea that there exists a quantity or measurement for lack of a better word that cannot be measured is difficult to reconcile with the average human mind. Though there exist equal realms of ambiguity and no definite in the macro world, such as justice and legality, or emotion and rationality (as provided by Gilmore), the notion of an immeasurable quantity is one many cannot grasp. This places the Heisenberg uncertainty Principle most at odds with the macro world, as in the real world, humans go about their existence with definite: For example, the bus will arrive to take a man to work at 09:05; a day is 24 hours long, America gained its independence in the year 1776, and there are 8 periods in our school day. That is to say, humans take solace in the definite of numbers as a source of definite when all else is seemingly variable and perhaps even more so when everything ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Theatre is the art of performing on stage. Employees have a wide range of skills in order to produce a performance that guests will enjoy. On the opposite side of the spectrum, hospitality involves restaurant and hotel management, event planning, and tourism. Much of the industry is centered around providing the best experience possible for customers, as is theatre. However, when Pan Am went bankrupt in 1991, the company became known as one of the biggest failures in the industry. • 28. Personal Profit s Crucial Role in Defining a Human Being Personal Profit s Crucial Role in Defining a Human Being College. The word brings to mind the struggle of being accepted to a top tier university. The intense competition seen in high schools around the country to earn a seat in prestigious schools can consume student s lives to such a degree as to corrupt their sense of place. The competition drives students to commit uncharacteristic and almost unconceivable actions. Many cheat their way into college by manipulating affirmative action and as a result intentionally sabotage a peer s chances of succeeding. This pursuit highlights a false sense of entitlement among students and fosters a hostile feeling toward peers. A similar situation is seen throughout many works of literature such as Heart of Darkness, by Joseph Conrad, where a mariner named Marlow, who uncovers the mysteries and horrors of the African interior, seeks to meet an esteemed figure named Kurtz. When Marlow discovers Kurtz s true nature and actions, he realizes the extreme degree of corruptness the human race possesses. In Heart of Darkness, Joseph Conrad suggests that humans only seek personal profit, shown through character relationships between Marlow and the African natives, the manager, and Kurtz. Heart of Darkness depicts the corrupt nature of humanity by illustrating Africans who sold out their own race to Europeans and enslaved them solely for the personal gain of not becoming a slave themselves. San Francisco during the early 1900s, too was a great city. It was on the rise from the gold rush and a fairly new transcontinental railroad that connected the growing western city to the rest of the united states. On April, 18 1906, San Francisco would be divested by several disasters. That morning at five, the San Andreas Fault shifted, resulting in an earthquake with a strength of 7.8 on the Richter Scale. It shocked San Francisco and the surrounding areas. The quake lasted 45 seconds to one minute only, and caused major damage and loss of life. The buildings in San Francisco during the time were largely made of wood and some of the newly built ones were made of brick and stone. City officials worked with builders for this change in response to six fires that occurred closely together before the earthquake, (Gunn, 2008). The problem that they faced was a possibility they thought could happen. However, they never did anything to avoid the fact that the water mains would fail them in result of an earthquake. • 32. The Importance Of Second Language Acquisition Abstract An interesting phenomenon in the research of second language acquisition is that learners seem to acquire English grammatical morphemes in a certain order, regardless of their native languages, ages, and learning environments. Furthermore, technique of instruction and data collection seem to have little effect on the acquisition order. This study attempts to investigate the morpheme acquisition order in the writing of Arabic students learning English at king Faisal University, KSA. Data collected from twenty placements tests is examined for fourteen grammatical morphemes and the participants from Saudi Arabian male students at king Faisal University. The acquisition order obtained is compared to orders, found in previous studies. The study does not find a significant correlation between second language acquisition order and first language acquisition order, but high correlations between this study s sequence and those in five other second language acquisition studies give further strength to the idea of a universal ESL morpheme acquisition order. Introduction In the late fifties the predominant view of language learning was Skinner s (1957) behaviorist theory which claimed that learning proceeds according to a series of stimulus/response associations and reinforcement. This view has changed since Chrosky s proposal (1957 1965) that the task, of learning a language is not learning a vast number of sentences, as Skinner believed, but rather learning a system of rules ... It also marked the translation from the Middle Ages to the Modern world. The length of the period lasted from 14th century to the 17th century, but it forever changed the Western World. People during the Renaissance viewed the other periods throughout history differently. Everyone was worshipping the Classical antiquity since the people were free to think and question while the Middle Ages caused people to go into silence for fears of punishment. They were most disgusted with the Middle Ages because of how much it wasn t the Classical antiquity. The Dark Ages, a nickname for the Middle Ages made by the Renaissance, were often described the backwards civilization that had formed after the Western Roman Empire collapsed. However, Classical antiquity appealed every Renaissance man and woman because their artworks and ruins were found all over Europe and it caused people to be curious about it. Once they learn of the Romans and the Greeks, it led to people coming up with their own ideas while challenging the Catholic Church s ideas. • 35. The Rhetorical Analysis Of The King s Speech In the film The King s Speech , written by David Seidler and released on November 26, 2010, the filmmaker portrays Albert being constantly under pressure for speaking correctly, by comparing his speech to great broadcasters who are anything but great leaders. The pressure that comes from Albert s father, King George V, results in more frustration for the both of them, without either of them realising that to lead a country into greatness depends more on just speaking well. Throughout the film, there had been ideal speech models like Hitler, David, and King George V, shown in order to compare their speech to Albert s and to show what a great speaker has to sound in order to gain the public s support. Ironically, all of those speech perfect models turned out to be egocentric individuals and the least egotistical leader, Albert, is the one with the impaired speech. I argue that in The King s Speech , the characters who serve as models of ideal speech are figures of oppression, therefore the author is implying that the idea of having ideal speech does not live up to it s praise. Oppressive leaders like Hitler have used public speaking in order to bring destruction to the world like war. In the scene when the royal family is watching him on the projector, Hitler is controlling a mass army while speaking with a powerful tone in a fast and concise pace. Hitler s body language also represents the intensity of his message to his country by pointing his fingers vigorously. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This, coupled with the fact the nature of the game necessarily entails violence, helps to provide an argument for the fact the controversy surrounding the level is unwarranted. Perhaps most importantly, the level No Russian introduces players to a take on the reality of the post 9/11 world. Video games are known to create fantasy situations that remove the player from reality. The Call of Duty Series, on the other hand, portrays situations that can occur in the real world, such as terrorist activities. Granted, elements of fantasy still exist even within the Call of Duty Series, such as fighting the Russians in the suburbs of Washington, through familiar looking subdivisions and strip malls before storming the White House itself (Schiesel). Yet, particularly, the No Russian level plays upon the emotions of the gamer and provokes them to consider what s really happening. The connection between airports and potential terrorism is nothing new. In January 2011 part of the main terminal at Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia was shut down for hours after a suspicious package was discovered near the baggage claim area (MSNBC).
