 The original meaning of the word
“rehabilitation” means restore to dignity, the
dignity on the individual level, - the user level.
 Definition : Rehabilitation is a process or a set
of processes which is planned and is limited in
time, having well – defined goals and means;
where several professionals or services co-
operate in assisting the individual user in his of
her efforts to achieve best possible functioning
and coping capabilities and promoting
independence and participation in society.
 Rehabilitation , commonly known as rehab is a
scientifically developed procedure for ensuring the
recovery from any kind of disability ,injury or the
habit.
 Many of the rehabilitation have ongoing processes
involved in them i.e. some processes in it are
continuous.
 Those are set of special instructions to be followed
by the patient in order to ensure that the
malfunction does not hit back again.
 Commonly there are 4 phases involved in the
rehab procedure.
1: Medical rehabilitation
2: vocational rehabilitation
3: Economical rehabilitation
4: social rehabilitation
 There are different types of rehabilitation
available for different types of disabilities.

for dependency on psychoactive
substances.
Such as alcohol, prescription drugs, and
street drugs.
The general intent is to enable the
patient to confront substance abuse .
Drug rehabilitation
To avoid psychological, legal, financial
social and physical consequences that can
be caused especially by extreme abuse.
Various types of programs offer help in
drug Rehabilitation , including : residential
treatment, local support groups, extended
cares centers, recovery and addiction
counseling , mental health and medical
care.
Some rehab centers offer age –and
gender-specific programs.
Alcohol Rehabilitation can be helpful for the
management of drinking problems.
Alcohol rehabilitation is the process of combining
medical and psychotherapeutic treatments to address
dependency on alcohol.
The Goal of both , drug and alcohol rehabilitation is for the patient to
remain permanently abstinent.
And gain the psychological tools for the long term
sobriety.

B. Establish a Positive support system
C. Improve General health
D. Improve personal circumstances
E. Meet employment and educational needs
F. Reduce criminal behavior and resolve legal problems
G. Treat psychiatric disorders and psychological problems.
Abuse is the improper usage or treatment of an entity,
often to unfairly or improperly gain benefit.
Abuse can come in many forms.
such as: Physical or verbal maltreatment, injury, assault,
violation, rape, unjust practices, crimes, or other type of
aggression.
Victims of abuse
 Victims of violence mostly are in a varying states
of crises , be it verbal, mental, physical or sexual
abuse.
 Level of damage done at each level also has very
lasting and deep effects.
 Victims of violence and abuse in indulge in various
kinds of behavior mostly irrational due to inability
to tolerate and deal with the abuse attack.
 They are called victims of abuse.
 All victims of abuse, violence and sexual abuse are
‘crisis cases’ with shock, disbelief and denial.
 Be handled sympathetically with warmth and
understanding ,so that initial shock and grief, guilt
and remorse(in some cases) can be deat with their
emotional states.
Counseling & Rehabilitation of victims
 The counselors must first assess the
a) Gravity of the abuse and assault,
b) Extent of damage done to the person and
family
c) The duration of the abuse
d) Arrange for medical help to avert the dangers
of threat to survival or suicide.
e) Help in developing new and healthy coping
styles,
f) Open the new social world by making new
relations, developing hobbies, creatively
express ones emotions
and not keep them suppressed
