Ladybird Research Paper
Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Anthopoda Class: Insecta Order: Coleoptera Family:
Coccinellidae The Ladybird is a small beetle varying in sizes but predominately range between
3mm (such as the psyllobora vigintiduopuatar species) to 10mm (such as the coccinella
septempretara species). There are at least 5,000 known different species of Ladybird in the
world. Because they have a diverse variety of habitats which include forests, fields, gardens and
grasslands they have a global spread but are not found in colder places such as the Antarctic or
warmer far north regions of North America, Europe and Asia. Ladybirds can eat nearly anything;

Ladybirds are vital to the ecology as they keep such pests populations, such as the aphid, down
and help lower the loss of plants, them making them a welcome resident in mainly gardens,
forests and crops. Ladybirds are small circular beetles that have their head tucked under the
pronotum and also have an elytra convex which is very much like a shield. Well developed legs
which can tuck underneath the flat underside of their body. A sturdy durable outer skeleton and
hard wing case not only can protect the delicate second wings and the softer underpart of the
body, provide safety from other predators but they also guard against desiccation, water loss.
Spiracles can also be found on the sides of the abdomen and thorax exoskeleton. Spiracles are
tiny pores that help with breathing and gas exchange as the ladybird s tracheal system opens to
the outside of the body. Spiracles also open and close in an effective manner to regulate air flow
and also help limit and regulate water

Buffalo Bill Cummings
e.e. cummings Buffalo Bill s is a poem obviously about Buffalo Bill, but the speaker symbolically
and uniquely connects Buffalo Bill s fame with death. As the poem progresses cummings distinctive
yet basic use of punctuation develops imagery that connects the concept of death with iconic people
of the world. Through its overall structure and unique use of punctuation, Buffalo Bill s suggests
that regardless of social status, deathis inevitable. cummings unique style of punctuation plays a
role in creating an image of Buffalo Bill for the reader. When describing Buffalo Bill s actions in his
western show cummings uses varied punctuation to emphasize the performance: ride a watersmooth
silver stallion and break onetwothreefourfive pigeonsjustlikethat (cummings, lines 3 5)
These descriptive lines create an image of Buffalo Bill horseback riding while shooting clay
pigeons with ease. The speaker uses the adjective watersmooth to describe his silver stallion. This
connection implies how polished and smooth Bill s performance is and how sleek his stallion
appears. The use of having no spaces in between the final lines of the quote can imply that Buffalo
Bill shot the pigeons very quickly without hesitation adding ... Show more content on

cummings Buffalo Bill s the idea that everyone is equal in death is quite relevant throughout the
poem. It emphasizes that regardless of social status, death is inevitable. The use of punctuation
and structure creates imagery and provides examples to support the poems message. By using
punctuation in a visual way cummings was able to create pace changes and meaning while
reading. This visual structure helped to show the progression of Bills life from birth to death. e.e.
cummings poem Buffalo Bill s confirms that death escapes no one even the most idolized people.
It would be wise to remember that no matter your skill, class, or looks everyone is born and
everyone will die. Nobody can escape Mister Death (cummings, line

David Moore s A Defense Of Common Sense
There are certain beliefs about the world that we can conclude to be absolutely true. For Moore,
these beliefs are Common Sense. It is our basic view and common sense of the world that is
correct. Moore believes that you have to be justified in what you believe, and common sense is an
adequate way of justifying those beliefs. In A Defense of Common Sense , Moore argues these
claims in 5 different sections. These include: certain knowledge of truisms, the distinction between
mental facts and physical facts, the existenceof God, God creating all material things and the
afterlife, how common sense propositions are to be analyzed concerning sense data, and how
philosophers are confused about analyzing interactions between the external world... Show more

Heading (2) is comprised of a single proposition, which makes an assertion of an entire set of
classes of propositions. It is a proposition that cannot be asserted without the whole list of truisms
from (1). Heading (2)of propositions correspond with (1) regarding to someone knowing that there
are many human beings other than oneself that have gone through the same processes and
experiences on Earth as asserted in heading (1) of propositions.
Moore identifies that heading (2) of propositions differs in opinion with other philosophers. Moore
splits philosophers differing in his opinion of Common Sense propositions from being wholly true
into two categories. Some philosophers either deny the truth of the beliefs or deny that we know
the beliefs at all. Moore uses the example of the earth has existed for many years past to point out
that these other philosophers that dispute an assertion like that, do not mean it to be a simple
question when as if it is true. They are abstract in their thinking, by asking more questions on the
meanings of the words being asserted. For example, if you are asked if you think that humans
have existed on earth for many years , the other philosophers might answer with more questions.
They may ask questions like, what do you mean by exist? Moore thinks these philosophers are
impractical in asking those questions. It is clear that a question like, do you think humans have
existed on earth for many years , that it is an

Utopian Cults Essays
For many years, cults have been a subject of great controversy. A cult is a group of people that
are bound together by an appreciation of the same thing, person, ideal, etc. Usually these groups
keep close because of religious reasons, but their beliefs are almost always considered strange by
outsiders. Cults are similar to clans or congregations, but are usually referred to as sects.
There are many different categories that a cult could be sorted into. Apocalyptic, Utopian,
Spiritualistic, Satanic, and Witchcraft/Voodoo cults are just some of the more basic types. While
an Apocalyptic cult would focus on the end of the world, a Utopian cult would center more on a
perfect land, or in other words a heaven on Earth. Spiritualistic cults ... Show more content on

A utopia is any visionary system of political or social perfection. In Moore s novel an ideal place
to live was described and since then many people on Earth have searched to find a utopia of their
own. Utopian Cults created exclusive, self supporting communities that were completely isolated
from the sinful world. In all of these cults, success of the community was most important and
individual wants came second. The leader of the clan would assign jobs to his/her followers and
they had to work. Assignments were usually tasks such as farming, because the cult s community
was isolated from the rest of the world and needed to feed themselves. All recorded Utopian cults
have failed within 20 years of effort proving that none of them were up to the enormous challenge
of perfection. The most famous Utopian cult of all time was led by Jim Jones and it was called the
People s Temple. At the age of 22, Jim Jones opened his first church, the People s Temple in
Indianapolis, Indiana. Jones taught his followers to treat all races equally which was not popular
in the early fifties. To show their disapproval, many people would knock him off of his bike and
some even threw dead cats into his church, but Jones kept preaching. Things turned around for
Jones when the Civil Rights Movement began, his church expanding not only over Indianapolis
but all over America. In 1961, Jim Jones and his family moved to Brazil where Jones served as a
missionary for two years. He

Different Morals, Attitudes, and Goals with Changing...
As generations come and go, I ve noticed that each generation has grown up with different
morals, attitudes, and goals for their life. Which puts a gap on all these generations, each
generation is very distinct in their own ways. With each new generation being shaped and
molded by the previous one, by offering more and more to help them. Now when you look at my
generation now and the new one slowly coming up as well, you can see that we have been
turned into a selfish, lazy, and even rude generation. If you look back on our older generations,
they were never handed anything. Everything they wanted they had to work hard for an even
struggle doing it. In this day and age it seems all anyone looks for is hand outs, no one wants to
work hard for anything and achieve it. Everyone looks for the shortcuts through life, when there
are none. Another reason why things are so much easier for this generation is the new
technology we have available. With all the new technology and so much help from our previous
generations, it has gave this generation a different attitude and not so much in a good way. This
generation s attitude has been infected with laziness, selfishness, and greed. It seems that most
people in my generation today is very and only self focused. They are all worried about how
much money they can make and care about only what they want, and how quick they can obtain it.
I feel as though previous generations have made our life so much easier, we take it for

Singapore Airlines Pestel Analysis
This report will examine the success of Singapore Airlines(SIA) Pte Ltd. It will show how the
company vision, culture, values and operational strategies help propel SIA into becoming the world
s top 100 airline. Moreover, through the analysis or PESTEL and Five Force model, it will show
how both internal and external environment impacts the growth of SIA and how the competitive
environment stimulates the growth of this company.
2.0 Background of SIA
It all began in 1947 when Malayan Airways started having scheduled services from Singapore,
Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh and Penang. It was until 1955 Malayan Airways Started scheduling flights

Airline suppliers expands drastically in their research and development in order to bring new
levels of comfort and new fleets in order to boost sales. And again by bring in new fleets, it gives
customer a sense of security. New developments made a huge impact on Singapore Airlines. Its
carrier are the very few with younger fleets in the market and on top of that it s the first to adopt
new innovations such as reclining seats and seatback entertainment system with headsets.
Environmental
In recent years, there is a growing concern among passengers regarding environmentally friendly
services. Due to carbon reduction targets and increasing energy prices, this preference is likely to
grow. Certain airlines have already started to tackle this green issue, amalgamating into their
company social responsibility. But SIA has been slow to respond to this demand from customers.
Legal
Changing the regulatory framework may impact heavily on airlines, especially those which are
national carriers. Each government has their own outlook and strategies, which may impact the
aviation industry heavily. For example, the terrorist event that happened in September 11, 2001.
After the incident there were huge changes being made in security which impacted customers

With 14 million followers, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints is a very interesting
religion for many different reasons. Mormons, as they are commonly known, have an interesting
origin, different traditions, and a fascinating founder. Mormonism is the term used for describing
the practice and beliefs of followers of The Church of JesusChrist of Latter day Saints. The core
belief is that a prophet named Joseph Smith restored doctrines of the church to earth. Smith
became the founder of what is now considered The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints
and widely followed. One of the ideas most central to the Mormons is their love for Jesus Christ,
the savior. That idea is stated very well when Joseph Smith said, The fundamental... Show more

Smith claims that he had begun recieveing messages at age 14. Smith received messages from
Jesus Christ, God, and other messengers such as angels. A few years later, at age 17, the angel,
Moroni, visited Smith. Moroni was the one who told him about the mysterious Golden plates
that told the story of the Israelites who left Jerusalem in 600 BC and came to North America
once they received a calling from god. The plates also said that the Israelites set up civilizations
here in America and viewed an appearance by Jesus after his crucifixion and later resurrection.
This angel Moroni had the name that gave inspiration for the title, The Book of Mormon. Martin
Harris helped Smith in the writing of The Book of Mormon . Smith told Harris to write down
words that Smith was translating from the plates through the use of seer stones that Moroni told
him about. Martin Harris finished the writing and brought it home to his wife who did not
believe the story. The partially written book was lost and Smith claimed that he was punished for
the loss of it. The angel came and took the plates and Smiths ability to translate. Months later, the
angel returned the plates to him and he resumed the translation and dictation in April 1829 with
Oliver Cowdery as his new scribe. At one point, the story required baptism and Smith and
Cowdery baptized each other in order to complete the book, which they did in July of 1829. On

Olympic Stadium Controversy
Introduction
This controversy revolves around the stadium meant to be the host for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic
Games. With the preparations for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, one of the preparations
was to build a new stadium to host the games and in 2012, Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) won
the stadium commission through an international competition (Dezeen, 2015a). Soon after ZHA
bid won, they started work on the site and after two years, and after Japan had won the bid to
host the 2020 Olympics, the controversy began with the main argument against the project being
that the architectural design was over budgeted and that it could not be financially sustainable.
As a result, ZHA had to revise their design in 2014 with a new design that addressed the
previously voiced criticism. However, with criticism still raging on, Japan Sports Council (JSC)
canceled the firm s plans in July 2015, after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe weighed into
the issue by announcing that the design plans will be scrapped as a result of spiraling costs and
that the project would be started from scratch. This issue ended up being referred to as the Tokyo
2020 Olympic stadium controversy and one of the major architectural controversies of 2015
(Dezeen magazine, 2015b). This paper, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Carter V. Canada
1) Carter v. Canada is considered one of the most significant recent SCC rulings because it
redefines the meaning of life, liberty and security in Section 7 of the Charter. It expands the scope
of our liberty to include autonomy and control over our body and how we choose to proceed when
given the choice to suffer intolerable pain or to commit premature suicide(Tupman Lionel). The
Supreme Court carved out a new path for people suffering from grievous and irremediable
illnesses and offered them a third choice. The choice to seek medical assistance to end life when
the burden of suffering is so intolerable that deathbecomes dignified and pleasant alternative.
This ruling challenges the notion of sanctity of life, the traditional view that ... Show more content

The law was an infringement on the rights of people to exercise the right to life, liberty, and
security and this is not justified in a democratic society. Forcing terminally ill patients to endure
intolerable pain and suffering is cruel and inhumane. It has no place in our society and no one
has a right to tell terminally ill people to continue to suffer. If suffering is the only choice we
provide them then we force them to end their life early through other painful means. We also
expose family members and medical professionals to criminal liability that may be tempted to
help terminally ill people end their lives. This ruling gives people the choice to either end their
life if they wish to no longer live, and also provides the option to continue living if a person
wishes to continue living. It does not force anyone to do anything against their wishes, whereas
the previous law forced people to continue to suffer. It also puts more pressure on the health care
system to provide more palliative care to people who need it and this is a positive

Vice President Essay
Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen,
First and foremost, thank you for being here in support of the student government association. I
want to thank our amazing dean Edina for encouraging me to run for vice president of SGA.
Many people have asked me why I am running for vice president. Would you ask a fifth grader if he
is going to go to the 6th grade? No right because they have to keep going to the next level. Ever
since I came to the University of Bridgeport, I constantly looked for ways to become more
involved and to keep having an impact in the university. Every year, here at the University of
Bridgeport I am involved in something new. Whether it s being an OL, President of a Club or
even starting a chapter/club which is known as the food recovery network, with the help of my
peers. The food recovery network have recovered more than 300 pounds of food that would
otherwise have been thrown out.
My last involvement with SGA was when I was a senator. As a senator, I held various town halls
that had a high number of participants from students and teachers. I engaged the students in various
topics in those town halls, such as what we could do to make the school of business better? How

Benefits Of Superweeds
Breeding Unkillable Weeds
In the late nineties crop seeds were genetically modified to be protected from the herbicide
glyphosate. These glyphosate resistant (GR) seeds encouraged farmers to use glyphosate almost
exclusively to kill weeds. Unfortunately, weeds adapted to live through being sprayed with
glyphosate. These weeds are referred to as superweeds. These superweeds invade farmland and are
extremely hard to kill. Currently American farmers have no ways to control theses superweeds
except to spray their fields with increasingly large amounts of glyphosate.
Superweeds are hard to get rid of and encroach on American farmland, forcing farmers to use
heavy doses of poisonous glyphosate. Superweeds can be found in over half of U.S. ... Show more

Their supposed solution is to create and use seeds immune to stronger chemicals such as 2, 4 D
and Dicamba.(Bomgardner) This solution will only make the issue worse; substituting in these
deadlier chemicals is only a short term solution as scientists predict weeds will quickly adapt to
them, and 2, 4 D and Dicamba are extremely hazardous to humans. According to an article that is
supporting this solution, dicamba is considered only mildly toxic to people, pollinators, wildlife,
and aquatic organisms. (Par. 6, Barth) As in, the less poisonous solution is only mildly deadly
to people, animals, and plants. It is unacceptable that farmers will be using toxic chemicals on
our food while breeding even stronger, more resilient weeds to kill American crops. The
underlying cause of superweeds is the genetic engineering of crops. When the biotechnic
company Monsanto introduced GR seeds to American farmers they started a whirlwind of
events. As Bomgardner explains, Farmers liked glyphosate because it vastly simplified weed
control. (Par. 3) Farmers like using GR seeds because they let entire fields of crops be sprayed with
weed killer. This is a simple and easy way to control weeds, but it led to the creation of
superweeds. Superweeds persist because farmers have no other way to control weeds other than
using GR seeds and spraying their fields with glyphosate. There are other ways to kill weeds, such
as manually ripping

Reflective Models Used by Nurses Essay
Reflective Practice Introduction: Reflection its self is looking into personal thoughts and actions.
For nurses this would mean looking at how they performed a particular task taking into
consideration their interaction with their colleagues and other members of staff, patients and in
some cases relatives This then enables the nurse to assess their actions and thought processes.
There are various frameworks of reflection that one could choose and the examples used for this
work is by Gibbs (1988), Johns (2000) and Benner (1982) Gibbs: Gibbs reflective cycle
encourages one to think in order about the different areas of an experience. It is presented in a

How did my actions match my beliefs? How do I feel about the situation? Has this changed my

this method of reflection is rather prescriptive asking many questions but maybe this idea helps

such a deep level of reflection requires the personal and daily practice of the nurse to undertake
this commitment for ontological development of one s self. A model of structured reflection (10th

The Brown Auto Company Essay
The Brown Auto Company At the Brown Auto Company, the two partners divided the
operational responsibilities. Robert performed the duties of the primary salesman and the chief
mechanic whereas his brother, Harry, more commonly called Skin, ran the office. The Ford
Motor Company shipped each Model T, colloquially nicknamed the Tin Lizzie, into Bradley on
the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul Railroad only partially assembled. Since the body, frame,
engine, wheels, doors, and windows, each came as parts; the brothers completed the assembly
on the rail siding before driving them to the garage. The Brown Auto Company, which used
Bradley s Fourth of July parade to advertise their product, on at least one occasion, obtained
assistance from Robert s multi talented wife, Bessie, for the design and construction of a float.
Using Ford s colors, Bessie decorated the float, which featured a Model T on a flatbed truck, by
sewing many strips of crГЄpe together to create a huge blue and white hoop skirt around the car.
The float prominently displayed Ford s motto, Henry s Made a Lady out of Lizzie. Selling cars
sometimes required overcoming unique challenges. The owner of Carson s Ranch, Lloyd Carson,

Auto Company driven by Robert Brown competed against a Chevrolet from a dealership in

comments in her lecture segment How do we decide what to believe? in which she introduces
the claim tester tools: Even our best scientific theories are subject to revision in the light of new
evidence. So, although what you re being presented with here is the best scientific knowledge we
have now, it may turn out that some of it s false. It s very likely to turn out that it s at least
incomplete. So as well as providing you with information through the course, we want to provide
you with tools to help you deal with information effectively, to help you be selective and discerning
about the kinds of things you believe. These questions are important for us because our society is
one in which we are constantly bombarded with information from a variety of often conflicting
sources. Certainly when adopting a transdisciplinary approach and being presented with vast
quantities of mind boggling and headache inducing information, it is very easy to become seduced
by knowledge that seems to offer a shortcut and comfortable explanation, but which could in
actuality be the completely wrong solution,

Three Techniques To Integrate Database To The Web Analysis
InfoHarness Repository Language, has the capability to generate simple metadata. It provides
automation for generation of metadata; InfoHarness is often used to encapsulate raw data
(heterogenous), and used as a runtime entity to search that encapsulated data.
In this technique, when the data item arrives for archiving, information is automatically extracted
and sent to a catalog named summary. Simultaneously, more information is gathered and sent to
catalog named program. Now, the users have the ability to locate data from the summary, using
which they analyze the data retrieved through program catalog.

The idea is to rebuild parts of the UI on web before executing/displaying them on the user s
machine. Hence, improving the scalability issues that the web currently faces. Although it reduces
the load of the server, this approach is largely platform dependent. For example, web programs
written in java improves interaction with the database. i.e., it will limit the disadvantage of the
stateless protocol (HTTP).
Middle Layer approach, this technique mainly concentrates on the heterogenous form of the data
and how to improve its integration to the web. CORBA, is an existing technique in this area that
can be used to solve this issue. It supports interoperability between the objects. It is capable of
handling different machines written in different languages, considering that these systems work
mostly on a distributed/heterogenous environment.
4.4Techniques to improve scalability factor for Web Based Databases
Especially with the growth of web usage, there has come a time to relook into the design of both
web based applications and traditional DB techniques that are currently in place to counter
scalability issues. Below are some of the suggestions to improve the database techniques,
In order to achieve a cut edge database application, there should be freedom for the web clients to
update DB. Example, an accepted order should trigger the update of available quantity. The current
and traditional DBs use conventional models for transaction purpose,

Workplace Bullying And The Workplace
Workplace bullying is something that is a big contemporary problem, that I feel is often pushed
under the rug and not discussed. Workplace bullying can effect a person s health, and it can also
affect their role as it relates to their workplace performance. I would like to discuss workplace
bullying to help those that has been through this or is currently going through this. I want to
provide different steps workers can take if they feel they are being bullied in their workplace.
According to the Workplace BullyingInstitute (2015) workplace bullying is repeated, health
harming mistreatment of one or more persons (the targets) by one or more perpetrators. Bullying
in the workplace is one of the most contemporary problems I feel that we are faced with today.
According to the Waitt Institute (2016) Workplace Bullying is an Epidemic and 37% of American
workers, an estimated 54 million people, have been bullied at work.
Types of Bullying
There are different types of bullying that take place. Workplace bullying can consist of verbal
abuse using choice words such as a form of attacking another person. Another type of bullying can
be offensive behavior that can consist of verbal or nonverbal, it can also be threatening and
humiliating, or intimidating actions towards another person. Workplace bullying can also be a
person interfering with another person work such as trying to sabotage their work. Bullying can be
aggressive towards another person with threats or screams.

Chapter 1 Part 1 Competing with Operations USING OPERATIONS TO COMPETE Discussion
Questions 1. It is often not a good idea for a company to try to excel in all of the competitive
priorities because it is generally impossible to do so. Mediocrity is a predictable result. The choice
and the minimum level of one or more of the competitive priorities are set by the order qualifiers for
the particular product or service. The choice of the competitive priorities that the company should
emphasize is usually governed by the company s strategy driven by its mission statement and the
core competencies that the company wants to harness to seek the best competitive advantage. 2.

But many other Baby Bells are in a similar position. a. Strategic plans include reducing overhead,
reengineering operations, and investing in new technologies to meet competition. The do nothing
option of remaining a local monopoly telephone company is not viable because of competition
from cable systems and wireless systems that are capable of business and personal communication.
If the mission is too broad, Wild West should sell its financial services and commercial real estate
businesses. Those businesses do not match their distinctive competencies. b. One environmental
issue is whether communication, like health care, will be viewed as a right and therefore should be
free. A significant portion of Wild West s business is governed by regulatory agencies. Customer
service in their core business is essential to maintaining a favorable regulatory environment. Other
business opportunities, such as manufacturing and providing information services, are prohibited
by the same court order that formed the Baby Bells from AT T. c. Wild West s distinctive
competency is in connecting people (or machines) for the purpose of communication. A weakness

The Shift of Power in Oleanna
Joseph Koltes M. Guista English 101 14 Oct. 2010 Oleanna is a two character play about a
power struggle between a University Professor, John, and a student, Carol, who accuses John of
sexual harassment. The play begins when John, a condescending University Professor who holds
power with his status, expresses his frustration at Carol s class performance as she deduces that
he is buying a house. He feels she is, in reality, bright but troubled, and she agrees, citing her
social and economic background as impediments to her class performance. John lowers his guard

The Issue Of Substance Abuse Essay
It is well known that any form of substance use can be fatal, but so can a lot of other things:
choking, accidents, health issues, and sheer bad luck. However, there is something special
about substance abuse fatalities from substance use are considered preventable. Take deaths
associated with driving under the influence of alcohol, lung cancer brought on by smoking, or
heart attacks associated with cocaine use. A person could die in a car crash, from lung cancer,
or a heart attack without ever touching alcohol, cigarettes, or cocaine respectively. However,
there is an increase in death associated with these items. The most curious part of this is the legal
versus illegal categorization of substances. According to the Center for Disease Control, tobacco
is considered the leading cause of preventable death (CDC, 2016). Yet, not only is it legal, a
person in the U.S. can purchase cigarettes as young as 18, which is three years earlier than the
legal age to drink alcohol. This knowledge leads to questions about addictionand prevalence of
substance use. Besides being readily available and highly addictive, are there other factors in the
use and abuse of legal substances and are they good indicators of illicit drug use? There is clear
evidence to support that children, adolescents, and adults learn and emulate what they see on
television. The American Academy of Pediatrics has done research and come to the conclusion that
the causes of adolescent substance use are

Minority Serving Institutions and the American Education...
Minority serving institutions have been an integral part of the education system in the United
States since before the Civil War (LeMelle, 2002). Historically black colleges and universities
(HBCUs) have, for much of their existence, been criticized for the level of academic rigor,
political context, and their social agenda have created controversy for generations. With that being
said, HBCUs hold a valuable place in the landscape of US higher educationinstitutions. The culture,
history, and perspective that is taught and shared are unparalleled and cannot be replicated at a
predominately white institution (PWI). The Higher EducationAct of 1965 gave opportunities for
educational advancement and financial aid programs to previously disadvantaged students
(Roebuck, 1993). This meant that underrepresented minorities were then granted access to colleges
and universities which they were previously not permitted. As PWIs were increasing
underrepresented minority enrollment in the 1960s, HBCUs were gaining strength. Financial aid
and accrediting bodies were paying closer attention to the needs of these institutions; more and
more students were enticed to enroll in higher education and seek otherwise impossible
opportunities. HBCUs face significant challenges. When compared to PWIs, HBCUs are more
likely to have students which are from low income environments, be the first in their families to
attend college, or need developmental courses (Rios, 2008). These challenges that

how radio has changed
Radio has been existing since the 20th century; it has a great significance to every one of us,
especially when it comes to entertainment. Through the years, we depend on the radio when
traveling or relaxing at home, it is where we listen to music, news or even soap operas. Well the
sound quality has increased dramatically. So has the amount of stations. When radio was first
invented there was only something on the air for a few hours a day, now radio is 24/7. Also,
when radio was first invented, there was no FM. Everything was AM. Then once FM was
introduced people were skeptical that it would catch on. Back then they would sell either an AM
radio, or an FM radio. These days it s a law that every radio must have AM and FM capabilities....

In addition to music, radio stations also played dramatic episodes of programs, such as Amos n
Andy and Superman. Radios also became the preferred method for communicating the news of the
day. While the AM frequency was popular for broadcastingthroughout the 1950s and beyond,
researchers began developing the FM in the 1940s as an alternative to FM. This method became
popular during the 1960s and took hold throughout the 1970s. It was more popular than the AM
signal because it could transmit on any frequency. Although its original purpose was intended
for classical music lovers and educational purposes, the FM method was a favorite for rock
music in the 1960s. It wasn t until 1978, however, that the FM programming had more listeners
than the AM. In recent years, radio has made even more developments that have made listening
to your favorite music even easier. With a simple internet connection, you can listen to streaming
audio from almost any radio station all over the world. A new trend in radio broadcasting is also
the podcast. This is where individuals put together a recording that resembles a radio show and
then post it online for anybody to listen to. In addition to these developments, there is also the
creation of the subscription based radio services. Sirius and XM radio are not controlled by
federal regulations in the same way that normal airwaves are governed. This gives both listeners
and broadcasters more options to fit their listening pleasure. Made popular

Elements Of Romanticism In Keats AndThe Wild Swans At Coole
In the context of John Keats Ode to a Nightingale, The Wild Swans at Coole by William Butler
Yeats raises compelling dialogue with Keats piece, which suggests that Yeats, to some degree,
draws inspiration from John Keats, in that his pose concerning the nightingale becomes a basis and
touchstone for The Wild Swans at Coole. Aside from commonalities concerning avians, both poems
share elements of Romanticism, melancholy, feelings of weariness, and other key ideas, images, and
plots as Ode to a Nightingale and thus, The Wild Swans at Coole strengthens Keats initial ideas in a
harmonic and resonant fashion using its own unique methods. As a response to Keatsian
Romanticism, Yeats revises the ideas surrounding transcendence of... Show more content on

Keats artfully notes that the only sound in the night comes from the nightingale s singing;
alternatively, the sole nightingale is the only sound that poet speaker can hear in his reflection,
implying that the bird is as solitary as the poet speaker, as most birds sing during the day. Yeats,
however, comments on his loneliness indirectly with the mention of nine and fifty swans that he
has been counting for nineteen meticulous autumns. Swans, famous for finding mates for life,
characteristically live in pairs and are known to create a heart shape with their necks Yeats
recognizes this explicitly later in the poem by observing that they travelled lover by lover. Thus,
the inclusion of the odd numbers is not coincidental and raises a question of why Yeats chose to
use 59 and 19 in particular. Perhaps the speaker of the poem has lost his spouse and feels lonely,
or perhaps he has yet to find a spouse and will soon die in either case, the solitude is strongly
apparent by the lines, I have looked upon those brilliant creatures ( lover by lover ) / And now my
heart is sore. Additionally, 59 swans in one area is an uncommon sight and catches the guaranteed
attention of any passerby and suggests an element of meticulousness from the speaker. By including
the absurd number of swans in his sight, it is as though

introduced a new motivational theory in his book The Human Side of Enterprise , stating that all
workers were divided into two groups: Theory X and Theory Y. Theory X workers were lazy,
irrational and unreliable, and were only motivated by money and threatened by punishment. Theory
Y workers were able to seek and accept responsibilities and fulfil any goals given.
The Human Side of Enterprise, written my McGregor in 1960, was voted the fourth most influential
management book of the 20th century by the Fellows of the Academy of Management. The ideas
and theories shown in the book have remained relevant and are taught in Universities across ...

Social needs acquired by such employees include love, acceptance and belonging. They must
feel accepted and a sense of worthiness before they can work up to fulfilling other, more difficult
needs. The esteem level on Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs is the need for appreciation and
respect. After the other levels of needs have been fulfilled, the esteem needs begin to play a
prominent role in motivating behaviour. Theory Y employees will be motivated to gain respect in
their organisation by achieving company objectives and by showing management their skills and
abilities. The top need desired by such employees is self actualisation. Maslow himself said;
What a man can be, he must be
What he meant by this is that people must achieve their full potential as human beings and that
nothing else is worth more that becoming the best you can be. Theory Y employees spend their
working lives striving for self actualisation, which is the ultimate source of motivation. It stimulates
the desire for more once experienced.
Contrasts
Although Maslow and McGregor are thinking alike, as I mentioned earlier, The Human Side of
Enterprise makes no concrete references to Maslow s theories. He doesn t seem to recognise the
condition of lower level needs to be met for people to aspire to those of higher level. McGregor
simply separates workers into different groups

Developing A Competitive And International Business...
To begin with, Scholes, Johnson and Ambrosini (1998) explained strategy as the direction of a firm
for the long term which accomplishes benefit for the firm through its allocation of resources within
a dynamic environment to meet markets requirements and to achieve stakeholder expectations.
Furthermore, Kelly and Zaman (2014) noted that strategies are strongly impacted by the
environment of a firm. It is recommended that the strategies also implicate considerations about
organization s internal factors and include choices about structure, technology and other factors.
Both planned and emergent approaches must be studied under the progressively change, highly
competitive and international business environment. External forces are driving companies to
cut costs, improve processes and recognize new opportunities for growing. This paper will
define and compare emergent and planned approaches to strategy formulation, and explain how
utilizing organizational resources and capabilities play a key role in creating competitive
advantage. Some valuable tools such as Porter s value chain and Economic moat will be
introduced to show how internal and external factors can be evaluated. Apple company was
selected to exemplify those aspects. Brief of Apple Company Based on Downie (2016), Apple
Company is recognized as the largest international company, with a market capital of $540 billion.
The company has accomplished this scale in spite of promoting a few number of products. Apple

The Phantom of the Opera, by Gaston Leroux, is an intense story that keeps readers intrigued
with complex and mysterious characters. Readers are told the stories of the lives of four different
characters. Each character s story is told in a different way over the course of the entire book.
Set in Paris, France in the late 1800 s, The Phantom of the Opera tells the tale of a love triangle
between a young woman, her childhood sweetheart, and a mysterious man believed to be a
ghost. Erik, also referred to as the Opera Ghost or the Angel of Music or the Phantom, lives in the

The Concept Of American Democracy
Democracy is perhaps the most elusive concept of all times. But if there has to be something more
elusive, it will surely be the concept of American democracy. In 1858, Abraham Lincoln is known
to have written:
ВЁAs I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master ... This expresses my idea of democracy.
Whoever differs from this, to the extent of the difference, is no democracy.ВЁ
The initial understanding of American democracy takes the form of an antithesis of English
colonialism and slavery. Based on this understanding, there is little doubt that the foundations of the
Вґgreatest democracy on earthВґ are to be found in the darkest, the most blatantly majoritarian and
atrocious times. There is little disagreement among constitutional ... Show more content on

How does the American concept of democracy reconcile with the ВЁrule by the people, of the
people and for the peopleВЁ conception of democracy today?
While America truly is exceptional in its dynamism, it is also shockingly imperfect in ways that
most true patriots refuse to accept. ItЕ› greatness and freeness is by no means premised on
empirical facts. If anything, the situation is otherwise. Freedom House, is an independent watchdog
that rates countries based on their civil and political rights accessibility to the citizens. According to
their 2017 report, America scored the highest mark on each front, just like many other European
countries, but it ranks much lower according to the aggregate score, which takes into account
factors like electoral process, political pluralism and participation, and functioning of government,
freedom of expression and belief etc.
For me, as a foreigner, the idea of American democracy can be better understood as a culture,
rather than a system of government. As someone not fully versed with the specifics of the political
history and the intricacies of the electoral system, I view American democracy as a set up
characterized by three things:
An unprecedented level of individual autonomy
A deep distrust for the government
The concept of limited government (which has increasingly become a contentious feature of
American governance)
Based on these

Gardasil Research Paper
Summary
The research questions are why is Gardasil such a controversial topic and why can t the debate on
if Gardasil is safe, on what age it should be given, and how successful it would be when
administered be settled? The research was conducted to answer these questions because Merck, the
maker of Gardasil, presented this vaccine as the first vaccine to prevent HPV and cervical cancer in
girls but there was no real solid proof that the vaccine was successful since Merck and the FDA
(Food and Drug Administration) approved the vaccine a year before the results/data on the vaccine
s safety and efficacy became available. Likewise, researchers were trying to learn if Merck s claims
of one less life being affected by cervical cancer with their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I feel like the article should have talked about both sides of the debate because, despite people s
personal beliefs/feelings on Gardasil, the vaccine does work, just not on everything that the
company is advertising that it does. It does not prevent cervical cancer mainly because with the
way the lesions of cervical cancer are (CIN 1 3) the lesions hardly ever develop into the other two
lesions known as CIN 2 and CIN 3. This article was completely against the vaccine but it
provided plenty of proof and detail to back up why Gardasil should not be required, especially
because research has proven that a pap smear can do more for women when it comes to cervical
cancer than Gardasil can. I like the article overall, and it helped me understand a little more of
what Gardasil can or cannot do. However, I feel like the article could ve been dumbed down
some just because I never even heard of CIN lesions before and so I felt like they should ve
explained a little easier and in simpler terms of what these cells are, otherwise those without any
medical background/schooling would not follow too well with the

New Mexican Culture Essay
From January 20 to 23, I went to Santa Fe and San Ildefonso in New Mexico with Dr. Laughlin
and my classmates. I was totally surprised by the architecture of the housing and the rich collection
of Native American cultures. I expected to see traditional suburbs but instead I found almost
everyone has built houses resembling traditional adobe homes which I had never seen. Houses,
businesses, government buildings including museums are almost built in this style. The colors
seem to blend in with the desert. One of the most exciting events I attended in New Mexicowas the
museum presentation of the Zuni tribe. Although we actually did not meet the Zuni tribe, we
learned a lot about them because Dawn Kaufmann who is a guide at the Museum of... Show more

I actually encountered with many vaguely familiar words when studying Native Americans cultures
such as Kachina, Sacagawea, and Maria Montoya Martinez. Both Zunian and Japanese are unique
and distinct from all the world s languages, and I believe that there is language connection between
Zuni and Japanese.
Moreover, Zunian is not only the language and a way of communication; it also helps in teaching
traditions to younger generations. As time progresses, the quality and amount of language spoken
is affected by other languages such as English and Spanish. However, all generations can speak
both Zunian and English fluently today (5). The Zunian traditionally learned from elders and
parents by words of mouth. Many projects have been established to transform the knowledge
communicated in spoken language to written form such as books. The language is incorporated
into teaching methods in public schools and other cultural resources. For instance, the Zuni literacy
program was introduced into the School District in 1989. The Zuni Public School District media
centers were awarded an electronic storage to restore Zunian language from Apple as part of its
Apple Library of Tomorrow Program. According to the official website of the Zuni tribe, this
equipment has allowed the district to begin production of both print and electronic versions of the
first bilingual Zuni English Dictionary.

  • 4. David Moore s A Defense Of Common Sense There are certain beliefs about the world that we can conclude to be absolutely true. For Moore, these beliefs are Common Sense. It is our basic view and common sense of the world that is correct. Moore believes that you have to be justified in what you believe, and common sense is an adequate way of justifying those beliefs. In A Defense of Common Sense , Moore argues these claims in 5 different sections. These include: certain knowledge of truisms, the distinction between mental facts and physical facts, the existenceof God, God creating all material things and the afterlife, how common sense propositions are to be analyzed concerning sense data, and how philosophers are confused about analyzing interactions between the external world... Some philosophers either deny the truth of the beliefs or deny that we know the beliefs at all. Moore uses the example of the earth has existed for many years past to point out that these other philosophers that dispute an assertion like that, do not mean it to be a simple question when as if it is true. They are abstract in their thinking, by asking more questions on the meanings of the words being asserted. For example, if you are asked if you think that humans have existed on earth for many years , the other philosophers might answer with more questions. A cult is a group of people that are bound together by an appreciation of the same thing, person, ideal, etc. Usually these groups keep close because of religious reasons, but their beliefs are almost always considered strange by outsiders. Cults are similar to clans or congregations, but are usually referred to as sects. There are many different categories that a cult could be sorted into. Apocalyptic, Utopian, Spiritualistic, Satanic, and Witchcraft/Voodoo cults are just some of the more basic types. Utopian Cults created exclusive, self supporting communities that were completely isolated from the sinful world. In all of these cults, success of the community was most important and individual wants came second. The leader of the clan would assign jobs to his/her followers and they had to work. Assignments were usually tasks such as farming, because the cult s community was isolated from the rest of the world and needed to feed themselves. In this day and age it seems all anyone looks for is hand outs, no one wants to work hard for anything and achieve it. Everyone looks for the shortcuts through life, when there are none. Another reason why things are so much easier for this generation is the new technology we have available. With all the new technology and so much help from our previous generations, it has gave this generation a different attitude and not so much in a good way. This generation s attitude has been infected with laziness, selfishness, and greed. It seems that most people in my generation today is very and only self focused. With the preparations for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, one of the preparations was to build a new stadium to host the games and in 2012, Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) won the stadium commission through an international competition (Dezeen, 2015a). Soon after ZHA bid won, they started work on the site and after two years, and after Japan had won the bid to host the 2020 Olympics, the controversy began with the main argument against the project being that the architectural design was over budgeted and that it could not be financially sustainable. As a result, ZHA had to revise their design in 2014 with a new design that addressed the previously voiced criticism. However, with criticism still raging on, Japan Sports Council (JSC) canceled the firm s plans in July 2015, after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe weighed into the issue by announcing that the design plans will be scrapped as a result of spiraling costs and that the project would be started from scratch. For example, web programs written in java improves interaction with the database. i.e., it will limit the disadvantage of the stateless protocol (HTTP). Middle Layer approach, this technique mainly concentrates on the heterogenous form of the data and how to improve its integration to the web. CORBA, is an existing technique in this area that can be used to solve this issue. It supports interoperability between the objects. It is capable of handling different machines written in different languages, considering that these systems work mostly on a distributed/heterogenous environment. 4.4Techniques to improve scalability factor for Web Based Databases Especially with the growth of web usage, there has come a time to relook into the design of both web based applications and traditional DB techniques that are currently in place to counter scalability issues. Guista English 101 14 Oct. 2010 Oleanna is a two character play about a power struggle between a University Professor, John, and a student, Carol, who accuses John of sexual harassment. However, there is something special about substance abuse fatalities from substance use are considered preventable. Take deaths associated with driving under the influence of alcohol, lung cancer brought on by smoking, or heart attacks associated with cocaine use. A person could die in a car crash, from lung cancer, or a heart attack without ever touching alcohol, cigarettes, or cocaine respectively. However, there is an increase in death associated with these items. The most curious part of this is the legal versus illegal categorization of substances. According to the Center for Disease Control, tobacco is considered the leading cause of preventable death (CDC, 2016). Yet, not only is it legal, a person in the U.S. can purchase cigarettes as young as 18, which is three years earlier than the legal age to drink alcohol. This knowledge leads to questions about addictionand prevalence of substance use. Besides being readily available and highly addictive, are there other factors in the use and abuse of legal substances and are they good indicators of illicit drug use? Minority serving institutions have been an integral part of the education system in the United States since before the Civil War (LeMelle, 2002). Historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) have, for much of their existence, been criticized for the level of academic rigor, political context, and their social agenda have created controversy for generations. With that being said, HBCUs hold a valuable place in the landscape of US higher educationinstitutions. The culture, history, and perspective that is taught and shared are unparalleled and cannot be replicated at a predominately white institution (PWI). The Higher EducationAct of 1965 gave opportunities for educational advancement and financial aid programs to previously disadvantaged students (Roebuck, 1993). This meant that underrepresented minorities were then granted access to colleges and universities which they were previously not permitted. As PWIs were increasing underrepresented minority enrollment in the 1960s, HBCUs were gaining strength. Financial aid and accrediting bodies were paying closer attention to the needs of these institutions; more and more students were enticed to enroll in higher education and seek otherwise impossible opportunities. HBCUs face significant challenges. When compared to PWIs, HBCUs are more likely to have students which are from low income environments, be the first in their families to attend college, or need developmental courses (Rios, 2008). This method became popular during the 1960s and took hold throughout the 1970s. It was more popular than the AM signal because it could transmit on any frequency. Elements Of Romanticism In Keats AndThe Wild Swans At Coole In the context of John Keats Ode to a Nightingale, The Wild Swans at Coole by William Butler Yeats raises compelling dialogue with Keats piece, which suggests that Yeats, to some degree, draws inspiration from John Keats, in that his pose concerning the nightingale becomes a basis and touchstone for The Wild Swans at Coole. Aside from commonalities concerning avians, both poems share elements of Romanticism, melancholy, feelings of weariness, and other key ideas, images, and plots as Ode to a Nightingale and thus, The Wild Swans at Coole strengthens Keats initial ideas in a harmonic and resonant fashion using its own unique methods. Keats artfully notes that the only sound in the night comes from the nightingale s singing; alternatively, the sole nightingale is the only sound that poet speaker can hear in his reflection, implying that the bird is as solitary as the poet speaker, as most birds sing during the day. Yeats, however, comments on his loneliness indirectly with the mention of nine and fifty swans that he has been counting for nineteen meticulous autumns. Swans, famous for finding mates for life, characteristically live in pairs and are known to create a heart shape with their necks Yeats recognizes this explicitly later in the poem by observing that they travelled lover by lover. Thus, the inclusion of the odd numbers is not coincidental and raises a question of why Yeats chose to use 59 and 19 in particular. Perhaps the speaker of the poem has lost his spouse and feels lonely, or perhaps he has yet to find a spouse and will soon die in either case, the solitude is strongly apparent by the lines, I have looked upon those brilliant creatures ( lover by lover ) / And now my heart is sore. • 42. Developing A Competitive And International Business... To begin with, Scholes, Johnson and Ambrosini (1998) explained strategy as the direction of a firm for the long term which accomplishes benefit for the firm through its allocation of resources within a dynamic environment to meet markets requirements and to achieve stakeholder expectations. Furthermore, Kelly and Zaman (2014) noted that strategies are strongly impacted by the environment of a firm. It is recommended that the strategies also implicate considerations about organization s internal factors and include choices about structure, technology and other factors. Both planned and emergent approaches must be studied under the progressively change, highly competitive and international business environment. External forces are driving companies to cut costs, improve processes and recognize new opportunities for growing. This paper will define and compare emergent and planned approaches to strategy formulation, and explain how utilizing organizational resources and capabilities play a key role in creating competitive advantage. Some valuable tools such as Porter s value chain and Economic moat will be introduced to show how internal and external factors can be evaluated. • 47. The Concept Of American Democracy Democracy is perhaps the most elusive concept of all times. But if there has to be something more elusive, it will surely be the concept of American democracy. In 1858, Abraham Lincoln is known to have written: ВЁAs I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master ... This expresses my idea of democracy. Whoever differs from this, to the extent of the difference, is no democracy.ВЁ The initial understanding of American democracy takes the form of an antithesis of English colonialism and slavery. Based on this understanding, there is little doubt that the foundations of the Вґgreatest democracy on earthВґ are to be found in the darkest, the most blatantly majoritarian and atrocious times. There is little disagreement among constitutional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How does the American concept of democracy reconcile with the ВЁrule by the people, of the people and for the peopleВЁ conception of democracy today? While America truly is exceptional in its dynamism, it is also shockingly imperfect in ways that most true patriots refuse to accept. ItЕ› greatness and freeness is by no means premised on empirical facts. If anything, the situation is otherwise. Freedom House, is an independent watchdog that rates countries based on their civil and political rights accessibility to the citizens. According to their 2017 report, America scored the highest mark on each front, just like many other European countries, but it ranks much lower according to the aggregate score, which takes into account factors like electoral process, political pluralism and participation, and functioning of government, freedom of expression and belief etc. For me, as a foreigner, the idea of American democracy can be better understood as a culture, rather than a system of government. As someone not fully versed with the specifics of the political history and the intricacies of the electoral system, I view American democracy as a set up characterized by three things: An unprecedented level of individual autonomy A deep distrust for the government The concept of limited government (which has increasingly become a contentious feature of American governance) Based on these ... • 48. Gardasil Research Paper Summary The research questions are why is Gardasil such a controversial topic and why can t the debate on if Gardasil is safe, on what age it should be given, and how successful it would be when administered be settled? The research was conducted to answer these questions because Merck, the maker of Gardasil, presented this vaccine as the first vaccine to prevent HPV and cervical cancer in girls but there was no real solid proof that the vaccine was successful since Merck and the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved the vaccine a year before the results/data on the vaccine s safety and efficacy became available. Likewise, researchers were trying to learn if Merck s claims of one less life being affected by cervical cancer with their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I feel like the article should have talked about both sides of the debate because, despite people s personal beliefs/feelings on Gardasil, the vaccine does work, just not on everything that the company is advertising that it does. It does not prevent cervical cancer mainly because with the way the lesions of cervical cancer are (CIN 1 3) the lesions hardly ever develop into the other two lesions known as CIN 2 and CIN 3. This article was completely against the vaccine but it provided plenty of proof and detail to back up why Gardasil should not be required, especially because research has proven that a pap smear can do more for women when it comes to cervical cancer than Gardasil can. I like the article overall, and it helped me understand a little more of what Gardasil can or cannot do. However, I feel like the article could ve been dumbed down some just because I never even heard of CIN lesions before and so I felt like they should ve explained a little easier and in simpler terms of what these cells are, otherwise those without any medical background/schooling would not follow too well with the ... • 49. New Mexican Culture Essay From January 20 to 23, I went to Santa Fe and San Ildefonso in New Mexico with Dr. Laughlin and my classmates. I was totally surprised by the architecture of the housing and the rich collection of Native American cultures. I expected to see traditional suburbs but instead I found almost everyone has built houses resembling traditional adobe homes which I had never seen. Houses, businesses, government buildings including museums are almost built in this style. The colors seem to blend in with the desert. One of the most exciting events I attended in New Mexicowas the museum presentation of the Zuni tribe. I actually encountered with many vaguely familiar words when studying Native Americans cultures such as Kachina, Sacagawea, and Maria Montoya Martinez. Both Zunian and Japanese are unique and distinct from all the world s languages, and I believe that there is language connection between Zuni and Japanese. Moreover, Zunian is not only the language and a way of communication; it also helps in teaching traditions to younger generations. As time progresses, the quality and amount of language spoken is affected by other languages such as English and Spanish. However, all generations can speak both Zunian and English fluently today (5). The Zunian traditionally learned from elders and parents by words of mouth. Many projects have been established to transform the knowledge communicated in spoken language to written form such as books. The language is incorporated into teaching methods in public schools and other cultural resources. For instance, the Zuni literacy program was introduced into the School District in 1989. The Zuni Public School District media centers were awarded an electronic storage to restore Zunian language from Apple as part of its Apple Library of Tomorrow Program. According to the official website of the Zuni tribe, this equipment has allowed the district to begin production of both print and electronic versions of the first bilingual Zuni English Dictionary.
