Rebel Without a Cause
1955 marked the year in which Nicholas Ray's film Rebel Without a Cause was released as the latest
Hollywood success. With its revolutionary acting and modern style, Rebel Without a Cause proved
to be an ideal example of progressive, contemporary cinema. Amidst these factors is the intricate
screenplay regarding a rebellious adolescent and his troubled relationships with his family and new
found friends. Unfortunately, this was a film that was produced in the mid–1950s, a time when the
self–censorship board in the U.S. did not permit certain political and societal issues to be addressed
in films. As a result, various controversial matters could only be suggested or implied, opposed to
directly dealt with. One such issue that Rebel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fundamentally, point of view and the gaze provide an early establishment of Plato's ‘rebellious'
character as an emerging homosexual.
The framing of this particular scene also manages to accentuate Plato's sexual insecurities, which
could have contributed to his failure to peacefully cope amongst his peers. The sole picture that
Plato has hung in his locker and that the frame is centered upon is one that could most likely be
perceived to be taken of his estranged father. In a fairly indirect manner, Plato is making a bold cry
for help for guidance and parenting. In doing so, understanding is made clearer in regards to his
character's uncertainty. Consequently, his identity issues become evident to be a matter of his
lacking guidance. As Plato suffers from parental attachment, he is unsure of who his parents are as
people, while he is also uncertain of who his friends are and ultimately who he is. In essence, the
framing of Plato's locker picture conveys his overwhelming anxiety and his uncertainty in own
sexuality.
From a psychological perspective, Plato's notion of friendship and personal identity also links with
his apparent civil and sexual insecurities. In understanding that the picture in Plato's locker suggests
his lack of a definitive father figure, it may be assumed that he is unaware of the basic societal
conventions with which he is expected to uphold. Essentially, he is inept in terms of social customs,

The M23: Rebel Group
M23 is a rebel group that formed in April of 2012. Comprised primarily of Tutsis formerly members
of the Congolese army, M23 began tearing up the eastern DRC displacing thousands. They named
themselves M23 after a peace deal signed on March 23, 2009, between the DRC and the former
militia group CNDP (BBC News, 2013). The DRC accused Rwanda and Uganda of supporting
M23, allegations that were denied. M23 declared a ceasefire leading up to the time of the peace
talks, in which eleven countries in Africa decided to work together to end the conflict in the DRC.
M23 essentially disbanded in March 2013 when Bosco Ntaganda, their alleged founder, surrendered,
and signed a peace deal with the DRC that December (BBC News, 2013).
"As of mid–2014, there were more than 2.8 million internally displaced persons and refugees. This
violence and turmoil it creates has severely affected the agricultural livelihoods of the poor,
reducing their capacity to produce and trade. As of 2006, more than 70 percent of the Congolese
population lived below the poverty threshold of $1.25 a day" (Peace Direct, 2016).
In January of 2015 an uprising began in the DRC when the government attempted to make changes
to the electoral law. Those opposing the changes believed that they ... Show more content on

Archetypal Hero's Journey In Star Wars IV : A New Hope
" The force will be with you, always." This is advice given to Luke Skywalker by his mentor Obi
Wan Kenobi. In the archetypal hero's journey a wise and experienced mentor such as Obi Wan will
often help guide or offer advice to the youthful and budding hero. Throughout time and across
different cultures there are certain symbols, events and characters which can be found in literature
and Star Wars IV: A New Hope follows this trend step by step. During the film Star Wars IV: A New
Hope, the main protagonist Luke undergoes a stereotypical, or in literary terms an archetypal hero's
journey. Luke starts from humble beginnings and when he is called upon to save the galaxy; he then
faces various tests which help him hone skills that he will need for the final life or death battle.
Even at the beginning of the film it is clear that the archetypal hero's journey is being portrayed due
to various symbols, events and lines from characters which help identify the ordinary world as well
as the call to adventure. Starting from Luke's home planet of Tatooine, which is a desolate and
barren desert. In literature a desert usually symbolizes dullness, hopelessness and an overall lack of
excitement; a classic case of foreshadowing in that Luke has a desire to escape this empty and
lifeless humdrum. Later in the film the audience is introduced to Luke Skywalker, a plain farm boy
who is caught in a seemingly never ending routine. Day after day Luke spends his time performing
chores and aiding

The Characters Of Day And June In Plato's The Republic
There were two main in the novel: Day – Daniel Alton Wing – and June Iparis. Day was previously
the Republic's most wanted criminal and was accused of murdering Metias Iparis. June was the
Republic's favorite prodigy as she earned the only ever perfect score on her trial. Both Day and June
prove to be very important within the novel: Day and June led each other along throughout the plot
of the story which kept the novel moving. It was Day's idea to join the Patriots a rebel group that is
trying to overthrow the Republic. However, June was unsure but because she "loved" Day, she
followed him. Also, June, after they had joined the Patriots, it was June who said they should do

While in Denver, after being reunited with his brother, Day had found out that he was dying. There
was an area in his brain that was basically telling his body that he should be dead. In response, his
body started to break down – he was slowly but surely dying. Though the doctor had tried to come
up with ways to save his life, he was unable to – if tried to fix that part of his brain he would have
severely damaged the rest of it – and Day – even though he did not know how much longer he
would live – was going to die. Meanwhile, June had received an offer from the Elector to be
promoted from an agent to his Princeps or right hand woman. She would be unable to see Day for
long periods at a time because her job would require to be by the Electors side almost 24/7 leaving
little time even for herself. Because of both of their situations, it all led down one road – they could
no longer be together. Day then visited June to tell her to accept Anden's – the Elector's – offer and
give her one last kiss before he left to live the rest of his short lived life without her. June wanted to
find a way around their problems but it was no use: he was going to leave her anyway. They wanted
to be together but their was no solution to both of their struggles that could keep them together. This
problem was left unsolved. However, there may be a solution in the third novel, Champion, but

Rhetorical Analysis Of Star Wars : Rogue One
Rhetorical Analyses for Star Wars: Rogue One
The Star Wars franchise has been a beloved series from Lucas Films since the first movie aired in
1977. Since then, the directors have composed a saga of movies that are dramatic and awe inspiring
to the audience. In order to perceive what makes these films so popular to the audience, we must
analyze the techniques used in one of the saga's latest installments, Star Wars: Rogue One. This film
was an installment meant to be set in the time period between Star Wars 3: The Return of the Sith,
and Star Wars 4: A New Hope. The film pictures the events that happened in order to receive the
plans for the Death Star, and interstellar spacecraft designed to be capable of destroying entire

The daughter of Galen Erso, Jyn Erso, had been abandoned to an imperial prison, and was being
used as a slave. When the rebel crew broke her out of that prison, she shown that she was capable of
taking down all but one of the rebels. This proves that without her parents, she had lived a long life
of hardship, further giving her the necessary skills to be able to join the rebellion. Pathos, perhaps
the most commonly used rhetorical technique used in the entire Star Wars franchise, is first utilized
the opening scene of the film. The Erso family was discovered by the Galactic Empire to have been
living on a farm. Director Krennic, and a squadron of elite Stormtroopers, depart to capture the Erso
family. However, things do not go as planned. Galen Erso's wife is murdered and he is captured,
while Jyn goes missing, only to come out hiding to discover she is now alone. Erso kneels on the
ground, holding his wife's lifeless body, while a stoic Krennic rushes him to depart. This scene uses
pathos to convey an emotion of sadness to the audience. The audience is forced to try to relate to the
tragedy of having one's parents simultaneously taken away. To add to the sad emotion the audience
is likely already experiencing, we view in the next scenes that because of this, Jyn was forced to live
a life as a captured imperial slave. Only in the time of needing to find her father was she
remembered and saved. Furthermore,

The Role Of The Hero's Journey In Star Wars
The hero's journey is an ongoing concept used in many tales which involves a hero who goes on an
adventure, wins a victory, and then comes home changed or transformed. In the society that we live
in, the hero becomes a hero by attaining in what they believe in for the good of others. Among the
numerous tales which the hero's journey is utilized there are some that stand out more compared to
others. Star Wars which is an extremely popular film known by many which clearly demonstrates
the hero's journey. The hero in this film is known as Luke Skywalker whom goes through all the
ordeals and comes out as a hero.
The hero's journey is comprised of 12 steps in which the protagonist must complete in order to be
known as a "hero". The first step is known as the "Ordinary World" which is where the hero exists
before his present story begins. In Star Wars, Luke's story begins on the desert planet of Tatooine,
where he is just a simple farmer working with his family. Although this is where Luke's world starts
off the journey really begins for him when he experiences his "Call to Action". In Luke's case this
was when he finds a message stored in R2–D2 from Princess Leia a high ranking leader in the rebel
alliance, saying the famous line, "Help me, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

destroying the Death Star signifying that they have achieved their goal and his friends and rebels
will survive to fight another day. Now that Luke has completed his journey he will never be able to

Short Story Of A Rebel
My mother always told me one bad apple can spoil the whole tree. Your parents can tell you who is
real and who is fake before you can. Once you get mixed up with the wrong crowd, people start to
look at you differently. Do not let one bad person ruin your life for you.
Because that's exactly what happened to me. Choose your friends wisely because if not, their
bullshit will become yours!
You ever had a life changing moment in your life that makes you look at someone in a different
light? I have, when I was a junior in high school, my perspective on people changed dramatically.

ready to go. It was weird because she didn't bring the clothes out to put on the counter so the
workers can put them back. I was just hoping that she didn't steal out of this store because Macy's
doesn't play when it comes to stolen merchandise.
Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! Was all I heard as we walked out of the store. I was livid as fuck because I
had a feeling Asonte's dumb ass did something stupid. I didn't even hear the manager saying, "We
needed to follow her to the back to discuss the stolen merchandise." I swear I felt my body heat up

hand was acting funny,

Book Review Of The Whiskey Rebels
The novel I chose to read for my summer book critique was called The Whiskey Rebels by an
American author, David Liss. The Whiskey Rebels is an American fiction novel inspired by events
in the early history of the United States. The setting of where the book took place was after the
Revolutionary War and in the late 1700s. The book's main characters are its two narrators, Joan
Maycott and Ethan Saunders who live two separate lives but cross paths in time over the scandal of
William Duer. Ethan Saunders was a spy during the Revolution for Colonel George Washington but
after being charged with accusations of treason he is living in Philadelphia in disgrace. Joan Maycott
and her husband Andrew Maycott who was a Revolutionary war veteran were moved to the west
where they were promised land for Mr. Maycotts' war debt. Soon after receiving land from their
landlord they realize that their land is worthless and they won't profit off of it. Later they make an
accomplishment off of their whiskey distilling. After Tindall realizes they are the ones making the
new whiskey he takes all of their land including killing Andrew. After the killing of her husband
Joan sets out on revenge for William Duer in hopes of stopping his hopes for taking over the
banking system of the United States and also Hamilton's rise of power. Ethan Saunders the disgrace
of the war hopes to finally figure out who framed him and his lost love Cynthia Pearson's father

Essay on Camus’ The Stranger (The Outsider): Meursault as...
Meursault as Metaphysical Rebel in The Stranger (The Outsider)
The Stranger by Albert Camus was published in 1942. The setting of the novel is Algiers where
Camus spent his youth in poverty. In many ways the main character, Meursault, is a typical Algerian
youth. Like them, and like Camus himself, Meursault was in love with the sun and the sea. His life
is devoted to appreciating physical sensations. He seems so devoid of emotion. Something in
Meursault's character has appealed primarily to readers since the book's publication. Is he an absurd
anti–hero? Is he a moral monster? Is he a rebel against a conventional morality? Critics and readers
alike have disputed a variety of approaches to Meursault. I believe he is the embryo ... Show more

Camus describes in detail the street scenes yet never does Meursault become involved in them.
Meursault is distant from the messiness of plans, ambitions, desires, hatreds, even love. Marie's
protestations of love only puzzle him. When she asks him if he wishes to marry her he agrees only
because he sees no real reason to refuse. He helps in Raymond's nefarious schemes for equally bland
reasons, and also because Raymond plies him with food, drink, and cigarettes. He is even distant
from his own trial. It interests him because he has never seen a trial before.
This easy–going, pleasant hedonism is interrupted permanently by Meursault's murder of the Arab
on the beach. Not only is he incarcerated, but also he must examine the reality behind the illusion of
his trial and, ultimately, of his life. Introspection has not been his metier. It takes him a while to
realize that the judge, the jury, the journalists, even his own lawyer, do not wish him well. Meursault
finally realizes that he is going to be convicted, not because he killed an Arab but because he did not
mourn his mother's death.
During the trial, conventional morality is satirized. The Public Prosecutor's convoluted logic equates
Meursault's lack of emotion of his mother's death to symbolic matricide and even to actual parricide.
As foolish and bizarre as this reasoning is perhaps there is a kernel of truth to it. Meursault has
neither parents nor children. He is without a past that he cares about, nor

INTRODUCTION: The act of recycling has been and is very influential around the world for the
last decade, where global warming is not easily seen on news headline; strongly encouraged for all
people, especially strongly advised to recycle in the United States. Recycling plastic and other
reusable materials are a process that takes decades to have at least half of the world's population to

Essay On Rebel Violence
There are significant correlations between voting results and exposure of violence, and some of
these correlations could be manipulated by politicians to target their own preference hence induces
the first referendum failure. The two characteristics of rebel violence, civilian killing and
kidnappings, have different effects on the voting result. The total rebel violence and the exposure to
kidnappings has a significant positive impact on share of NO votes, yet not with the exposure to
civilian killings. Furthermore, the exposure to rebel violence has no general impact on voters'
turnout ratio, whereas civilian killings might depress some citizens to not participate in public
referendum.

However, not all rebel characteristics tend to favor to vote NO for the peace accord.
There is a clear positive relationship between vote share of NO ballots and kidnappings (see Figure
2). Citizens who exposed to rebel attacks such as kidnappings tend to favor to vote against the peace
accord referendum.
However, there are no obvious positive or negative relationships shown between vote share of NO
ballots and the citizens who exposed to civilian killings as Figure 3 shows.
The data of results was drawn at the municipality level, but each municipality has different
population that vary largely from 284 to 7,362,782 (see table 1), thus, only looking at the
relationship at each municipality level could possibly bias the estimation because of the variation
across municipality level. Therefore, by looking at the rebel violence characteristics per capita could
give more precise results, since it rescales the rebel violence same per capita for every
municipalities. The relationship between rebel violence per capita level and per municipal level on
the voting behavior gives the same answer, this further strengthens the results shown

Rebel Without A Cause
The film Rebel without a Cause masterfully juxtaposes two characters that have seemingly opposite
conditions: Jim Stark and Judy. Of the many differences that these two characters share, their
contrasting family structures are perhaps the most interesting aspect of the movie. Rebel without a
Cause displays a snapshot of how the family structure of the 1950s functioned with Judy's family. To
counter this, the movie depicts the Stark family, which is a direct opposite of the accepted family
structure at the time. Making a social commentary on this topic of the household ranking could have
been one of the main intentions of the movie's director, Nicholas Ray, in producing the film. Even

The Rebels' Revolt
The Sparks of War
1765, Great Britain is 72 million pounds in debt due to The Seven Years War. To recover from their
financial loss they create and pass the Tax Act. This act directly taxed the American Colonies'
Citizens. The colonists had a miniscule revolt against this act and later that year, the Stamp Act
Congress added that Native Englishman could only be taxed by their own representative(s). The
very next year the Declaratory Act was created as a mean to make peace with Britain. One of the
final actions that sparked the Revolution occurred on December 16th, 1773 with the Boston Tea
Party. The British sent three ships carrying a total of over 300 chests of tea was to be sent to Boston
Harbor. When the ships had been landed, Radical Bostonians threw around 340 chests of tea into the
water of Boston Harbor.

regional community (Bayart 1993). Mampilly (2011) argues that it is crucial to consider the impact
of transnational actors on the behavior of rebel groups as it relates to civilian governance. These
relations can bolster non–state actors, including armed groups (Guyer 1994; Ferguson & Gupta
2002). Zahar even argues that because insurgents view themselves as "independent political
entities," they "work to legitimize themselves by interacting with transnational actors" (2001: 60).
Mampilly comments that transnational actors support rebel groups by providing them with resources
that influence their ability and will to deal with civilian governance (2011: 89). Rebel groups
incorporate these transnational actors into their governance systems in order to supplant or
supplement their dependence on civilian support, and therefore, their own capacity to provide
civilians with goods. And so in general, it is feasible to assume that help drawn from other states
will have a damaging effect on civilian governance

Rebel Without A Reason
Rebel Without A Cause' and 'Raw' effectively elucidates the profound struggle of adolescent
transition into adulthood. 'RWC' follows the story of protagonist Jim stark, an emotionally
distraught, morally perplexed individual. Projected throughout the film are Jim's struggles to adapt
to the experiences of the broader world because of his confusion on what it means to be a man.
Resulting in a constant quest for a stable role model to guide him to a virtuous and honourable way
of life. 'Raw' pursues the story of Brett Dalton, an adolescent delinquent determined to dismiss any

The relationship between Jim and his parents at the start of the film provides a powerful insight into
how his personal values create a barrier between him and his parents, who evidently retain values
that derive from an alternate generation. This notion is employed in The 'Police Station Scene'. Jim
is seen fidgeting in emotional pain while his parents argue about the situation. Jim's father tries to
identify the motives behind Jim's actions: "Don't I buy you everything you want? A bicycle, you get
a bicycle, a car...well, not just buy. We give you love and affection, don't we?" Jim deems his parents
love to be artificial and smothering. His emotional anger climaxes with his out burst: "You're tearing
me apart! You say one thing, he says another, and everybody changes back again." He feels
alienated from his conformist parents and their values. He additionally blames them for the misery
in the family. Jim's emotional anger derives from his lack of a father figure. He hates that his father
is incessantly submissive to his mother. The effect of this dysfunctional family results in Jim not
being able to establish any personal values that coincide with the values of the broader world,
resulting in Jim not feeling he possess any sense of ethical direction. This is the basis of his
overwhelming struggle of transition from adolescence to adulthood. In 'Raw', Brett struggles to

Essay on Why Star Wars was such a Ground Breaking Movie
Why Star Wars was such a Ground Breaking Movie
There are many reason for 'Star Wars' being such a ground breaking movie. 'Star Wars' is a science
fiction film, a science fiction includes new world and civilisations that are discovered and aliens are
featured in a lot of science fiction films, the setting of the films are usually set in the future and
where the world is in danger. There are some characters that are computer generated and they sue
special effects for fighting scenes when they use lasers. These are some of the things that are
included in that particular genre.
The plot of 'Star Wars' is simple and easy to understand. The hero Luke Skywalker lives on the
planet Tatooine and wants to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A man named Vladimir Propp studied fairy tales and found out that the 8 basic characters that is
included in many fairy tales are the hero, the villain, the donor, the dispatcher, the false hero, the
helper, the princess and the princess' father. In 'Star Wars Luke Skywalker plays the hero, Han Solo
is the donor because he provides Luke and Obi–Wan Kenobi the space ship, Princess Leia is the
princess and also plays the role of her father because she rewards Han Solo and Luke at the end,
Obi–Wan Kenobi is also the donor who gives he force to Luke, Darth Vader is the villain who
captures the princess and the droids are the dispatcher because R2D2 shows the message to Luke.
Propp's theory is a much more simple way of looking at 'Star Wars' as a fairy tale however there is
another way but is more complicated than Propp's theory. The story plot always has a battle between
good and evil, the hero becomes a man after leaving home and going on a quest, the hero becomes
stronger by wrestling with his conscience and listening to advice from the spiritual leader, the hero
rescues an imprisoned princess who is found asleep. 'Star Wars' plot fits into all these ingredients
that make 'Star Wars' a fairy tale story and different from other films. The characters in 'Star Wars'
are easily recognisable by the audience because it includes the 8 basic characters that make up a
fairy tale.

Star Trek Future
The Future Is Not Far Beyond Our Potential When thinking of science fiction stories and films, their
concepts and ideals seem far out of our own world. The beauty of science fiction films is the ability
of them to take the audience to a different world to excite the feelings of awe and wonder, making us
leave the realism and probable behind. These alterations from ordinary life and reality may take
away from authenticity, but science fiction can prove to resemble more of our society when
analyzing the societies and advancements created in these films. All the sights, sounds, characters

Looking first at Star Trek, the main female character throughout the movie is Nyota Uhura. She is
only seen in few scenes in the exposition of the movie and onboard the U.S.S Enterprise, but she is
not given any characterization, backstory, or even a clear duty as a crew member. While every
character is given a few seconds to either say or show their importance to the spaceship, Uhura is
given the smallest description of her role, if there really is a clear one given. Her main scenes in the
movie and role are being "Spock's girlfriend, comforting him in the elevator, kissing him goodbye as
he leaves for a mission, and speechlessly gazing at him with love or concern while the men define
the action the crew will take," showing how far away this female character matters to the plot
(Tudor and Meehan 132). Looking at another female character, Gaila is given the same treatment as
Uhura in filling a non–progressive role in society. Gaila is seen in her main scene as a sexy female
involved with Kirk with the coincidence run into Uhura once again. Gaila falls into the minimal role
of a sexual distraction to the main character that ends up depicting women to an unimportant role in
developing the story. These women and other female characters that appear in the movie mostly
"occupy traditional narrative roles: mother, sexual partner, and girlfriend," giving them supportive
roles and ultimately sticking to the conservative story where men are the heroes and women are
there to support the men on their quest (Tudor and Meehan 132). Women depicted in this futuristic
movie are not given the development and opportunity to break stereotypes of society and are left to
fit in the shadows of prominent male leaders as seen in a majority of prior

Star Wars : Return Of The Jedi
Star Wars: Return of the Jedi is final chapter in an epic story of good versus evil. The script was
written by George Lucas and was released in theatres on May 25, 1983 (IMDb.com). It was the third
film released in the Star Wars saga, following Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope and Star Wars:
Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (IMDb.com). At the time, Episode VI concluded the story of
Luke Skywalker and his Rebel friends fighting against Darth Vader and the evil Empire.
The entire plot of Return of the Jedi is the conclusion of a story of a young man and his friends
trying to find their way in a battle between good and evil. Throughout the film, the characters each
have their own, unique, inner struggle while all fighting in the same galactic battle. While the theme
of darkness versus light is strong, there are also hints of other themes, such as power, corruption,
love and sacrifice. All of these components are set in front of the backdrop of a nonstop battle
between the freedom seeking Rebels and the evil Galactic Empire. This sixth chapter in the Star
Wars series is told in a third person omniscient perspective. It tells the facts and interprets events,
feelings, and thoughts from each character throughout the story. The viewer gets to see the story
from multiple perspectives. Primarily in the earlier chapters, the narration followed Luke, but in this
chapter it follows his friends, like Han Solo and Chewbacca, in smaller subplot stories to give each

Divergent Archetypes
Two literary works that have similar archetypal meanings are Veronica Roth's fictional story
Divergent and George Lucas's written film Star Wars. The plot of Divergent is based on a post–

The Whiskey Rebellion
The end of the Revolution was not the end of political turmoil in the United States. In the years
following the Revolution, political parties were forming and disbanding which then led to rebellions
starting. The future of what the country looked like was seen differently by each political faction.
All of the conflicting views of American politics began to manifest into governmental affairs
because of the imposed tax on distilled spirits made by the federal government to pay off the
nation's debts from the American Revolution. This tax was only to be paid in cash, which was
particularly hard on the small frontier farmers because of the fact that they bartered and did not have

The tax took away much of the farmers' income in western Pennsylvania. They relied on whiskey to
make most of their money and that was taken away from them. In today's society, The Affordable
Care Act relates to the Whiskey Rebellion in a way that it benefits a few but hurts the majority. This
act is meant to grant free health care to those who cannot afford it, and although it helps those who
have lost their jobs it gives free health care to some people who have decided to make bad choices
in life and not work for it like others. By forming this act, it has raised taxes over all for people in
America. These relate because the Whiskey Rebellion was formed as a result of the government
taxing whiskey and making people pay this tax in cash. It was hard on farmers because they did not
have access to currency. The Affordable Care Act is taxing everyone to support those people who
have done nothing to benefit their lives and help make them successful in life. Although both of
these points pose as challenges, they did benefit some of the people in the world. The government's

Analysis Of The Movie ' Rogue One '
The primary source that is being analyzed in this paper is a trailer for the upcoming Star Wars film,
Rogue One. It was released in early April by Lucasfilm and Disney. While the actual movie doesn't
drop until December 16, the trailers people have seen so far display quite a lot about the theme,
attitude and how dark the upcoming film will be. These few pages of rhetorical analysis will mainly
focus on how much darker Rogue One will be and how that compares to and changes the previous
films and media. Before getting to deep into the analysis of the trailer, it is important for people who
are not very familiar with the terminology of Star Wars know the basics of the universe. Rogue One
will take place during the third and fourth films. The two main factions are the Rebellion, who are
painted as the true heroes of the movies, and the Empire, who are shown to be an evil regime in the
galaxy. The Empire has constructed a superweapon called the Death Star, which has the firepower to
destroy a planet in one use of its weapon. This weapon is unknown to most of the galaxy, but the
Rebellion knows of its existence. It is also important to distinguish that there are many new
characters to the franchise in this film. First of which is a woman named Jyn Erso. She is given a
brief description in the beginning of the trailer. Mon Mothma describes her as "reckless, aggressive,
and undisciplined". In addition to this, Jyn is said to have a fairly long criminal record, including

Rebel Without A Cause Character Analysis
Blood makes you related, but loyalty makes you family. Family is a key part of everyone's life and
makes a person who they are. Family gives people somewhere to go to when they are struggling or
cannot figure out what to do. Nicholas Ray directs the 1955 award winning drama film, Rebel
Without a Cause. Jim Stark (James Dean), Plato (Sal Mineo), and Judy (Natalie Wood) are not all
friends at the beginning, but through a series of events their friendships create a mini family. Rebel
Without a Cause shows a couple of rebellious teens who have little to no guidance at home trying to
be themselves in a society that will not allow it to happen. Jim Stark is a problematic teen who
constantly gets into trouble which makes his family move from place to place. Judy catches Jim's
eyes and they seem to have a connection, but she already has a boyfriend. Jim starts out the school
year at a new High School and has no friends. He gets into trouble with some "tough guys" led by
Buzz (Corey Allen), which creates inconvenience for Jim and his family. He befriends an odd boy
named Plato. Buzz challengers Jim to a competition which ends with Buzz dying. Jim befriends
Buzz's girl, Judy after this dramatic event and makes sure she is okay. Jim, Plato, and Judy now are
on the run from the "tough guys" and the police for the death of Buzz. It ends with Plato dying

Similarities And Differences Between Star Wars A New Hope...
Star Wars: A New Hope and 12 Angry Men are two movies that have underlying similarities and
visible differences. While not entirely obvious, there are similarities between the movies based on
character development and plot lines. Due to the nature of the two movies, it is extremely obvious as
to the differences between the two. The similarities include the character development of Juror 7
(Jack Warden) in 12 Angry Men and Han Solo (Harrison Ford) in Star Wars: A New Hope and a
"good vs. bad" theme. Some of the differences include the setting of the two movies and the drastic
difference in special effects.
When examining the similarities between SW and 12 AM, it can be argued that the development of
Jack Warden's character and Han Solo have very similar characteristics. Both characters start out
with the goal of personal gain but eventually find a genuine reasoning behind their decisions. This is
clearly seen when Jack Warden, in 12 AM, notifies the other jurors that he is just trying to get out of
the meeting in time to watch a baseball game. He quickly joins the majority of the jurors in voting
that the defendant is guilty, even though he can not give a clear reason for his response. Eventually,
Juror 8, played by Henry Fonda, is able to provide evidence as to why he feels the defendant is not
guilty. Many of the jurors change their response to not guilty because the genuinely believe the
evidence given is sufficient. However, Juror 7 changes his vote to not guilty with the

"Star Wars" was arguably the first in a new breed of high concept, high budget sci–fi action films. It
was directed by George Lucas and originally released in only a few cinemas in 1977. However, the
buzz around the film grew, and it is now one of the highest grossing films of all time, and along with
its sequels, prequels and re–mastered re–releases, has a large cult following. I feel this is because of
Lucas` ability to engage the audience through careful use of sound and camera technique; The use of
the scrolling story in space sets up many audience expectations, that the action will be set in space,
and that it will base around a struggle between the rebels and the Empire. Narration is a fairly

We also realize they are important because their bright metallic colouring makes them stand out
from the background of uniformed rebels. Their voices are quite comical; C3P0's English accent is
so camp and inappropriate to the action packed setting that the audience find themselves laughing.
R2D2's language is not easily decipherable, and so many laughs are gained by inferring what he has
said by C3P0's response. This section introduces the audience to the idea that these characters will
provide the comic relief for the film, and indeed, their presence in this section allows the audience to
relieve a little of their tension by laughing, this is important because of the family based nature of
the film, parents do not want their young children to be too scared. The camera moves to a tight shot
of the door, framing it within the screen, showing that all attention is now diverted to it. The sparks
from the cutters are exaggerated , to emphasise their importance, and run around the screen, creating
the impression that the intruders are breaking into the audience's real world, further allying them
with the rebels. The Storm troopers break through, and an eye line shot from their perspective is
used to show the rebels firing back; connoting a "new perspective" has arrived. The cutters continue,

Then, Vader confesses that he's Skywalker 's father, and he responds with a dramatic response. The

suspense and entertainment of one of the most quotable movie scenes of all time. This scene
contains approximately 35 shots with each a straight cut. The joining end of each shot, to the

Star Wars IV: A New Hope
External influences may guide an individual towards their destiny, but only the person themselves
can attain their full potential once they believe in their own ability to succeed. As American
positivist author Norman Vincent Peale once said, "Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities!
Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or
happy" (Brainy Quote). This can be seen in George Lucas' Star Wars IV: A New Hope, the
protagonist, Luke Skywalker, is an isolated young farmer on the planet Tatooine who is propelled in
an unexpected mission to save the Rebel Alliance Leader, Princess Leia, as they struggle to defeat
the Galactic Empire. To that effect, when analyzing George Lucas' film from a Jungian
psychoanalytic perspective, Luke is the main character ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To exemplify, while Luke, Obi–Wan, and the droids arrive at Mos Eisley spaceport, they are stopped
by a group of stormtroopers as C–3PO and R2–D2 are the droids the Empire is looking for.
However, Obi–Wan is able to manipulate a stormtrooper's mind into repeating his words and
believing that they do not hold the droids wanted by the Empire, to which, they finally let them "go
about your [their] business" without any conflict (Star Wars IV: A New Hope 43:51). This
showcases how Obi–Wan is in–tune with the Force and can use it to his advantage in such a
situation due to the Force having "a strong influence on the weak–minded," something that Luke has
yet to learn and adhere to his own skills (Star Wars IV: A New Hope 44:23). Particularly, after Luke
gets struck by a laser during his training with the simulator, Obi–Wan guides Luke in the first steps
of controlling the Force by supplying his wisdom and knowledge on

Essay on How Technology is Represented in Star Wars
How Technology is Represented in Star Wars
When watching the film, Star Wars, it is impossible not to be aware of the technology that is
represented in the film, partly because it is so much more advanced than our own is now, but also
because we can imagine how we might someday acquire such technology. The central theme in Star
Wars is good versus evil, clearly demonstrated by the technology in the film. While the Rebels (the
good guys) use technology primarily to fight for freedom and quality of life for all, the Empire (the
bad guys) use technology to develop weapons of destruction and war in an attempt to rule the
galaxy. In addition to these two opposing sides, there is another group that doesn't use technology
for war. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, even if we don't look into the future, Star Wars can tell us volumes about how technology
can affect our society, especially as it pertains to war.
Through the ages there have been constant struggles to resolve disputes. However, as we can see
through our history, sometimes peaceful resolutions are not possible because of misunderstandings,
corruption, power, or greed. In these cases, one alternative to settling the dispute is war. Technology
plays an extremely important role in war, and this is clearly demonstrated in Star Wars. Star Wars
possesses similarities to our own culture and with the vast amounts of technology represented in the
film, it is an ideal choice to better understand our own society.
We are delighted to have the opportunity to examine Star Wars because we feel intimately connected
to the film and all that it represents. We grew up with R2D2, C3PO, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia,
Han Solo, and Chewbacca. We dressed up like them for Halloween, we played Star Wars games for
countless hours, we imagined ourselves using their futuristic technology, and now we want to study
how this artifact has affected our society and how it might affect our future.
Research Question:
In the movie, Star Wars, how is technology represented differently in its ability to help humankind
and/or destroy it?
Methods:
We decided to conduct our analysis on the

Essay On Soldiers Uprising
A little over a week ago, the most I'd ever seen of an uprising, was from a film in one of my classes
at Duke. I can still remember one film they'd shown us in particular. There had been a small group
of people protesting their...something. Their living conditions maybe. I remember watching as the
soldiers were forced to throw pulse grenades into the crowd, that threw people to the ground, so the
soldiers could take them into custody. But I have never seen anything like this before, a crowd of
couple hundred strong risking their lives like this. I shake my head. I don't understand why their
doing this, don't they have any idea how will be forced to respond? "Are these people insane?" I ask
Commander Winters. Were standing on top of a raised platform behind a line of soldiers armed with
stun sticks, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other side of me Commander Winter's eyes narrow, as he stares at the group. His mouth
presses into a hard line, before turning and speaking quickly into his com. At a slight movement, I
glance up at the top of several close builds to see armed soldiers taking up positions along the roofs.
I frown, Commander Winters turns and strides away. What is he doing? The second I see one of the
soldiers raise his gun, my muscles tighten like a coiled wire, as the truth hits me. "Commander
Winters, wait what are you doing?" I say, but he can't hear me over the screams of those in the
crowd who've noticed, the soldiers on top of the buildings. Commander Winters glances at the
crowd, as some of them push their way through the crowd in an attempt to escape. Commander
Winter looks towards the roof. "Fire." he shouts into his com. "Commander, please wait there
has–––" I want to say more, but at that moment, shots tear through the crowd. I lunge toward hi,
unsure of what I can do to stop this?––but a hand grabs me by the arm, and twist it hard behind my
back. Its

Rebel Without A Cause

  • 1. Rebel Without a Cause 1955 marked the year in which Nicholas Ray's film Rebel Without a Cause was released as the latest Hollywood success. With its revolutionary acting and modern style, Rebel Without a Cause proved to be an ideal example of progressive, contemporary cinema. Amidst these factors is the intricate screenplay regarding a rebellious adolescent and his troubled relationships with his family and new found friends. Unfortunately, this was a film that was produced in the mid–1950s, a time when the self–censorship board in the U.S. did not permit certain political and societal issues to be addressed in films. As a result, various controversial matters could only be suggested or implied, opposed to directly dealt with. One such issue that Rebel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fundamentally, point of view and the gaze provide an early establishment of Plato's ‘rebellious' character as an emerging homosexual. The framing of this particular scene also manages to accentuate Plato's sexual insecurities, which could have contributed to his failure to peacefully cope amongst his peers. The sole picture that Plato has hung in his locker and that the frame is centered upon is one that could most likely be perceived to be taken of his estranged father. In a fairly indirect manner, Plato is making a bold cry for help for guidance and parenting. In doing so, understanding is made clearer in regards to his character's uncertainty. Consequently, his identity issues become evident to be a matter of his lacking guidance. As Plato suffers from parental attachment, he is unsure of who his parents are as people, while he is also uncertain of who his friends are and ultimately who he is. In essence, the framing of Plato's locker picture conveys his overwhelming anxiety and his uncertainty in own sexuality. From a psychological perspective, Plato's notion of friendship and personal identity also links with his apparent civil and sexual insecurities. In understanding that the picture in Plato's locker suggests his lack of a definitive father figure, it may be assumed that he is unaware of the basic societal conventions with which he is expected to uphold. Essentially, he is inept in terms of social customs, making ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comprised primarily of Tutsis formerly members of the Congolese army, M23 began tearing up the eastern DRC displacing thousands. They named themselves M23 after a peace deal signed on March 23, 2009, between the DRC and the former militia group CNDP (BBC News, 2013). The DRC accused Rwanda and Uganda of supporting M23, allegations that were denied. M23 declared a ceasefire leading up to the time of the peace talks, in which eleven countries in Africa decided to work together to end the conflict in the DRC. M23 essentially disbanded in March 2013 when Bosco Ntaganda, their alleged founder, surrendered, and signed a peace deal with the DRC that December (BBC News, 2013). "As of mid–2014, there were more than 2.8 million internally displaced persons and refugees. This violence and turmoil it creates has severely affected the agricultural livelihoods of the poor, reducing their capacity to produce and trade. As of 2006, more than 70 percent of the Congolese population lived below the poverty threshold of $1.25 a day" (Peace Direct, 2016). • 9. Archetypal Hero's Journey In Star Wars IV : A New Hope " The force will be with you, always." This is advice given to Luke Skywalker by his mentor Obi Wan Kenobi. In the archetypal hero's journey a wise and experienced mentor such as Obi Wan will often help guide or offer advice to the youthful and budding hero. Throughout time and across different cultures there are certain symbols, events and characters which can be found in literature and Star Wars IV: A New Hope follows this trend step by step. During the film Star Wars IV: A New Hope, the main protagonist Luke undergoes a stereotypical, or in literary terms an archetypal hero's journey. Luke starts from humble beginnings and when he is called upon to save the galaxy; he then faces various tests which help him hone skills that he will need for the final life or death battle. Even at the beginning of the film it is clear that the archetypal hero's journey is being portrayed due to various symbols, events and lines from characters which help identify the ordinary world as well as the call to adventure. Starting from Luke's home planet of Tatooine, which is a desolate and barren desert. In literature a desert usually symbolizes dullness, hopelessness and an overall lack of excitement; a classic case of foreshadowing in that Luke has a desire to escape this empty and lifeless humdrum. Later in the film the audience is introduced to Luke Skywalker, a plain farm boy who is caught in a seemingly never ending routine. Day after day Luke spends his time performing chores and aiding ... Day was previously the Republic's most wanted criminal and was accused of murdering Metias Iparis. June was the Republic's favorite prodigy as she earned the only ever perfect score on her trial. Both Day and June prove to be very important within the novel: Day and June led each other along throughout the plot of the story which kept the novel moving. It was Day's idea to join the Patriots a rebel group that is trying to overthrow the Republic. However, June was unsure but because she "loved" Day, she followed him. In response, his body started to break down – he was slowly but surely dying. Though the doctor had tried to come up with ways to save his life, he was unable to – if tried to fix that part of his brain he would have severely damaged the rest of it – and Day – even though he did not know how much longer he would live – was going to die. Meanwhile, June had received an offer from the Elector to be promoted from an agent to his Princeps or right hand woman. The setting of the novel is Algiers where Camus spent his youth in poverty. In many ways the main character, Meursault, is a typical Algerian youth. Like them, and like Camus himself, Meursault was in love with the sun and the sea. His life is devoted to appreciating physical sensations. He seems so devoid of emotion. Something in Meursault's character has appealed primarily to readers since the book's publication. Is he an absurd anti–hero? Is he a moral monster? Is he a rebel against a conventional morality? Critics and readers alike have disputed a variety of approaches to Meursault. I believe he is the embryo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Camus describes in detail the street scenes yet never does Meursault become involved in them. Meursault is distant from the messiness of plans, ambitions, desires, hatreds, even love. Marie's protestations of love only puzzle him. When she asks him if he wishes to marry her he agrees only because he sees no real reason to refuse. He helps in Raymond's nefarious schemes for equally bland reasons, and also because Raymond plies him with food, drink, and cigarettes. He is even distant from his own trial. It interests him because he has never seen a trial before. This easy–going, pleasant hedonism is interrupted permanently by Meursault's murder of the Arab on the beach. Not only is he incarcerated, but also he must examine the reality behind the illusion of his trial and, ultimately, of his life. Introspection has not been his metier. It takes him a while to realize that the judge, the jury, the journalists, even his own lawyer, do not wish him well. Meursault finally realizes that he is going to be convicted, not because he killed an Arab but because he did not mourn his mother's death. During the trial, conventional morality is satirized. The Public Prosecutor's convoluted logic equates Meursault's lack of emotion of his mother's death to symbolic matricide and even to actual parricide. As foolish and bizarre as this reasoning is perhaps there is a kernel of truth to it. Meursault has neither parents nor children. He is without a past that he cares about, nor ... The two characteristics of rebel violence, civilian killing and kidnappings, have different effects on the voting result. The total rebel violence and the exposure to kidnappings has a significant positive impact on share of NO votes, yet not with the exposure to civilian killings. However, there are no obvious positive or negative relationships shown between vote share of NO ballots and the citizens who exposed to civilian killings as Figure 3 shows. The data of results was drawn at the municipality level, but each municipality has different population that vary largely from 284 to 7,362,782 (see table 1), thus, only looking at the relationship at each municipality level could possibly bias the estimation because of the variation across municipality level. In the years following the Revolution, political parties were forming and disbanding which then led to rebellions starting. The future of what the country looked like was seen differently by each political faction. All of the conflicting views of American politics began to manifest into governmental affairs because of the imposed tax on distilled spirits made by the federal government to pay off the nation's debts from the American Revolution. This tax was only to be paid in cash, which was particularly hard on the small frontier farmers because of the fact that they bartered and did not have access to currency. This act is meant to grant free health care to those who cannot afford it, and although it helps those who have lost their jobs it gives free health care to some people who have decided to make bad choices in life and not work for it like others. It was released in early April by Lucasfilm and Disney. While the actual movie doesn't drop until December 16, the trailers people have seen so far display quite a lot about the theme, attitude and how dark the upcoming film will be. These few pages of rhetorical analysis will mainly focus on how much darker Rogue One will be and how that compares to and changes the previous films and media. Before getting to deep into the analysis of the trailer, it is important for people who are not very familiar with the terminology of Star Wars know the basics of the universe. Rogue One will take place during the third and fourth films. The two main factions are the Rebellion, who are painted as the true heroes of the movies, and the Empire, who are shown to be an evil regime in the galaxy. The Empire has constructed a superweapon called the Death Star, which has the firepower to destroy a planet in one use of its weapon. This weapon is unknown to most of the galaxy, but the Rebellion knows of its existence. It is also important to distinguish that there are many new characters to the franchise in this film. First of which is a woman named Jyn Erso. She is given a brief description in the beginning of the trailer. Mon Mothma describes her as "reckless, aggressive, and undisciplined". • 117. Similarities And Differences Between Star Wars A New Hope... Star Wars: A New Hope and 12 Angry Men are two movies that have underlying similarities and visible differences. While not entirely obvious, there are similarities between the movies based on character development and plot lines. Due to the nature of the two movies, it is extremely obvious as to the differences between the two. The similarities include the character development of Juror 7 (Jack Warden) in 12 Angry Men and Han Solo (Harrison Ford) in Star Wars: A New Hope and a "good vs. bad" theme. Some of the differences include the setting of the two movies and the drastic difference in special effects. When examining the similarities between SW and 12 AM, it can be argued that the development of Jack Warden's character and Han Solo have very similar characteristics. Both characters start out with the goal of personal gain but eventually find a genuine reasoning behind their decisions. This is clearly seen when Jack Warden, in 12 AM, notifies the other jurors that he is just trying to get out of the meeting in time to watch a baseball game. He quickly joins the majority of the jurors in voting that the defendant is guilty, even though he can not give a clear reason for his response. Eventually, Juror 8, played by Henry Fonda, is able to provide evidence as to why he feels the defendant is not guilty. Many of the jurors change their response to not guilty because the genuinely believe the evidence given is sufficient. However, Juror 7 changes his vote to not guilty with the ... It was directed by George Lucas and originally released in only a few cinemas in 1977. However, the buzz around the film grew, and it is now one of the highest grossing films of all time, and along with its sequels, prequels and re–mastered re–releases, has a large cult following. I feel this is because of Lucas` ability to engage the audience through careful use of sound and camera technique; The use of the scrolling story in space sets up many audience expectations, that the action will be set in space, and that it will base around a struggle between the rebels and the Empire. Narration is a fairly formal method of exposition, linked to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their voices are quite comical; C3P0's English accent is so camp and inappropriate to the action packed setting that the audience find themselves laughing. R2D2's language is not easily decipherable, and so many laughs are gained by inferring what he has said by C3P0's response. This section introduces the audience to the idea that these characters will provide the comic relief for the film, and indeed, their presence in this section allows the audience to relieve a little of their tension by laughing, this is important because of the family based nature of the film, parents do not want their young children to be too scared. The camera moves to a tight shot of the door, framing it within the screen, showing that all attention is now diverted to it. The sparks from the cutters are exaggerated , to emphasise their importance, and run around the screen, creating the impression that the intruders are breaking into the audience's real world, further allying them with the rebels. The Storm troopers break through, and an eye line shot from their perspective is used to show the rebels firing back; connoting a "new perspective" has arrived. The movie sequel, Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back, directed by Irvin Kershner, is about the continuing adventure after destroying the Death Star. The Rebel Alliance are forced to stop the freezing planet of Hoth and hide across the galaxy from the Empire. The Empire tries to find their secret base while Luke Skywalker travels to the planet of Dagobah to receive training from the Jedi master Yoda. In one major scene, Skywalker arrives at Cloud City where Darth Vader suddenly appears and starts a lightsaber duel with Skywalker. Vader slices off Luke 's hand and pushes him to the end of a balcony. Vader attempts to manipulate Skywalker into betraying the Rebel Alliance. Then, Vader confesses that he's Skywalker 's father, and he responds with a dramatic response. The scene ends with Skywalker throwing himself off the balcony. The various film elements create the suspense and entertainment of one of the most quotable movie scenes of all time. This scene contains approximately 35 shots with each a straight cut. The joining end of each shot, to the beginning of the following shot, created the scene to have no lap dissolves or fades. The two main key shots I found in this scene was Darth Vader and Skywalker fighting against each other with their life sabers on the balcony. This shot was filmed at shot eight with a duration of about ten seconds long. The next key shot was Vader confessing to Skywalker that he was his father. This shot was approximately number 29 ... Essay on How Technology is Represented in Star Wars How Technology is Represented in Star Wars When watching the film, Star Wars, it is impossible not to be aware of the technology that is represented in the film, partly because it is so much more advanced than our own is now, but also because we can imagine how we might someday acquire such technology. The central theme in Star Wars is good versus evil, clearly demonstrated by the technology in the film. While the Rebels (the good guys) use technology primarily to fight for freedom and quality of life for all, the Empire (the bad guys) use technology to develop weapons of destruction and war in an attempt to rule the galaxy.
