Some Theorists Believe Cinema Must Be Realistic And May
Some theorists believe cinema must be realistic and may only be seen as art if it remains in its
original form a static image on film stock. Others, however, argue that cinema is an important and
relevant art medium no matter its form. Digital cinema, while making use of new and different
technologies such as animation, is the next step in the evolution of film. Contrary to what certain
theorists believe, it is the most efficient and most artistically inclined way to create films as it
offers a world of possibilities. This is elaborated on in Digital Cinema and the History of a
Moving Image, an excerpt from What Is Cinema? the sixth chapter of The Language of New
Cinema, a book penned by Lev Manovich. Indeed, the author describes how... Show more content

This mobility was acquired thanks to pre cinematic creations such as the Zootrope. What followed
was the debut of cinema as a moving image on film stock. This prompted documentary style short
films, such as L ArrivГ©e d un train en gare Г la Ciotat by Auguste and Louis LumiГЁre, as well
as, later on, fictional feature films, like Charlie Chaplin s Modern Times. However, by mid
2011, 50 per cent of the more than 39,500 North American screens had become digital. [And, in]
the United States, the major distributors have announced that they will cease to distribute films
on 35mm film by the end of 2013. Thus, certain directors such as James Cameron and George
Lucas are advocates for fully digitally shot films. As a matter of fact, in 1984, George Lucas
developed EditDroid and SoundDroid, computerized, electronic non linear editing systems for
image and sound. Furthermore, cinema has evolved in terms of animation as well. In fact, the
types of animation that are currently in use are so entirely different than the kinds filmmakers
had to use in the past. For example, while MeliГЁs was required to hand paint each and every
single one of his film s frames for Le Voyage dans la Lune, James Cameron s Avatar was able to
make use of digital technologies in order to make the film 3D as well as to turn human actors into
the aliens featured in the film. Nevertheless, this new technological development

Brief Explanation of the Basic Framework of the Principal...
PRELIMINARIES
This section expands a brief explanation of the basic frame work of the principal component
analysis and fuzzy logic, along with some of the key basic concepts.
A. The principal component analysis (PCA)
The Principal component analysis (PCA) is an essential technique in data compression and feature
reduction [13] and it is a statistical technique applied to reduce a set of correlated variables to
smaller uncorrelated variables to each other. PCA is considered as special transformation which
produces the principal components (PCs) Known as eigenvectors. PCs are sorted decreasing i.e. the
first prin cipal component (PC

to reduce redundancy and uncertainty. So this paper used the PCA as the preprocessing step on the
multispectral images to reduce the redundancy information and focus on the component; that have
a significant impact on the data.
B. Fuzzy logic
Zadeh [15] introduced the concept of fuzzy logic to present vagueness in linguistics, and to
implement and express human knowledge and inference capability in a natural way. The fuzzy
logic starts with the concept of fuzzy sets which is defined as a set without a crisp. It is clearly
defined boundary and can contain elements with only a partial degree of member ship. The main
power of fuzzy logic image processing is in the middle step (membership function) [16] A
membership function defines how each value in the input space is mapped to a membership
value (or degree of membership) between the range of 0 and 1. LetXbe the input space andxbe a
generic element ofX. A classical set Ais defined as a collection of elements or objectsx2X, such that
each xcan either belong or not belong to the setA, AvX.

Case Study-Hubbard Foods-Fake Company
COMPANY BACKGROUND
Hubbard Foods Ltd started up in mid 1988 and a private limited company. The company was
originally named Winner Foods Ltd and only 4 employees at that moment, now currently has staff
about 150.
In 1990, DickВЎВ¦s decision was made to introduce the Hubbard brand as the main brand for
breakfast cereal products. The companyВЎВ¦s products set the price at both the high price range
and low end of the cereal market.
HubbardВЎВ¦s has consistently built a culture around caring for others, creating employment and
being socially responsible. In 2000, the company increased pay and allowances, and increased
communication between management, the union and employees.

In fact, it doesnВЎВ¦t have enough power to do the acquisition. Licensing is one of the good way
also because it is both low in cost and risk, it only license out the production way is enough.
However, the consideration is the returns are not high.
Actually, exporting rate is low; it have to see the internal strategic and external strategic position
first if they analysis this problem. There has a major change in internal strategic position from no
production line to a systematic production way, this would be the significant change. In an
external way, the extension of the production would let to export product to the world wide where
is an untapped market. It should be a major change because it is only export to Australia, U.K.,
Singapore and Hong Kong only if it is not have a systematic production line. Now, which way
should take if enter into a new market. Using exporting way; itВЎВ¦s a high cost and low control
method because they need to spend a lot of marketing and distributing expense to form the channel
for them to export, however, ВЎВ§no pain, no gainВЎВЁ. (Hanson, 2005)
A strategic alliance is a good way for the company because it allows sharing the risks and the
resources with the alliance that mean does not have to bear all the risk of the exporting. In
addition, the alliance can help it to develop the new competencies maybe the new product or

Beethoven Americans Research Paper
There are many influential people in the arts, government, and sports. Given a choice, I would
interview, Ludwig van Beethoven, Barack Obama, and Jordan Spieth. These people are successful
and have had historical influence.
Beethoven was a composer during the 1700 s into the early 1800 s. He wrote many pieces, even
as he slowly became deaf. I would ask, Once a composer dies, he often becomes more famous.
How does that make you feel? Once Beethoven died, people started to discover his pieces and
started reproducing them, which led to more fame. Another would be, Are your works of music
dedicated to anyone? Beethoven never married, and works of art always have inspirations behind
them. People also found a mysterious love letter addressed to Immortal Beloved which they
assumed was Beethoven s lover. I would ask, Do you think that one of today s artists could be
regarded as the next ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of my questions would be, What/who made you start playing golf? This person may have
influenced Spieth as he has become the top golfer in the world. What are the responsibilities you
have? Being top golfer is a lot of work. Spieth has to maintain his golf game and win every
tournament he enters. The third question would be, Many of your competitors are much older
than you, How does being young affect a golfer? Spieth s skill in golf could come from his youth
and the techniques he is able to use while he is still young. The fourth question is, Are you being
mentored or do you mentor? The best way to learn is from experienced people and then
experience it yourself. Spieth is a young golfer who has good game and how he changed the past
and future.

they affected history. These people have taught me a lot a through asking these questions I can find

Cerebroarterial Amyloidosis
Proteins play a critical role in normal human function and are made up of a sequence of amino
acids that have to be precise, to allow for proper folding to a functional three dimensional structure
(confirmation). This sequence is coded in the DNA in genes and hence any changes through
mutation or allele combinations can cause a change in the protein(s) coded, resulting in a diseased
state. Such a case is a disease called Cerebroarterial Amyloidosis, Icelandic type (CAI) that arises
from a mutation on chromosome 20 in the CST3 genelocated in the short arm of the chromosome
(20p11.21).1 It is an autosomal dominant hereditary disease and the mutated gene leads to the

theory and concept behind this technology. Advanced Research Project Agency (ARPA) Depart of

Moreover, it becomes easy to understand the network process as it can be explained through
seven different steps. It is important to note that each of these layers is inter related and acts as
a support for the respective upper layers. Below is the diagrammatic representation of the seven
different layers of the OSI model. Figure 1: OSI Model As shown in the above figure 1, these
seven layers can be segmented into two groups namely; Upper Layers and Lower Layers. Upper
layers comprises of top three layers such as Application, Presentation, and Session whereas lower
layers comprises of remaining layers such as Transport, Network, Data Link and Physical. In
general, the upper layers are mostly software programs running on a computer or some hardware
device which interacts with the user and are primarily concerned with implementing the
application running over the network whereas the lower layers are mostly hardware at physical
layer and steadily involves software as it moves closer to network layer and it mainly takes care
of data formatting, data encryption and data transmission over the network. 2.1.OSI Layering
Layer 1 Physical Layer It is the bottom layer of the OSI protocol stack as shown in figure 1. It is
termed as physical , mainly because it facilitates physical or hardware medium for sending and

Biography of Hieronymus Bosch
Hieronymus Bosch was born at the beginning of the Renaissance just after the end of the Dark
Ages. Bosch was born in the netherlandish city of Hertogenbosch. Hertogenbosch is where Bosch
got his last name. Bosch lived, grew up and died in Hertogenbosch. He never left the city, it is
surprising that his artwork became famous. Bosch came from a family of painters. His father, uncle,
and grandfather were all painters, unfortunately none of their works survived.
Bosch joined the Brotherhood of Our Lady, a local religious organization devoted to the Virgin
Mary, around 1486. Some of his first commissions came through the Brotherhood ,but
unfortunately, none of those works survived. He then married Alety Goyaerts den Meervenne. Her
family was wealthy so this union improved Bosch s social status.
Bosch s most famous painting is the Garden of Earthly Delight. It has amazing imagery and
exaggerations and also contained many vivid scenes. Few painters packed more detail into their
work than Hieronymus Bosch. The wings of Bosch s triptych open to reveal a color filled interior
bursting with strange architecture, unnatural landforms, and all types of hybrid creatures. In the
main part of the left hand panel, God the Father stands between the naked figures of Adam and
Eve, surrounded by various flora and fauna. This is the Garden of Eden, though the scene has a
dark side. In the distance, an animal tears at the flesh of his prey. Another one of Bosch s famous
paintings was the Last

Hrm 531 Week 2 Individual Assignment
Discussion questions Once again, this week s reading is very timely and coincides with current
work situations. This week, it has become more apparent that the culture of where I work
conflicts with my personal values. Over two years ago, I moved to the Boston area for this job
and at the time I realized that there were geographical and historical differences than from previous
places I had lived. I also expected social and economic differences. Being the newcomer, to the
work situation and environment, there was the need for me to learn about the governmental rules
and processes for how decisions are made. In addition, after a few times of being corrected, I
learned to call Massachusetts a Commonwealth, not a State. For a time, I embraced the cultural
differences and contributed any unease to my unfamiliarity with the area. Then, I started to notice
some current organizational values that contrast with my beliefs. For instance, the organization I...

Specifically, I applied my work to situational favorability. Partly due to being a union
environment, the task structure in the library is very high. There are detailed work conditions and
job descriptions. Also, although I am the library Director (a non union position), I have low
positional power. The Town Administrator negotiates the contract with the union members. Also,
the union staff in the library do not receive performance reviews due to contractual restrictions.
Therefore, out of necessity, I have focused on leader member relations. At first, I was frustrated
at the lack of task structure and position power. Now, I see how the power of building
relationships is stronger than both of those variables. For instance, because I have friendly
relationships with staff, we work well together and tasks are completed because employees feel
motivate and empowered. In any future situation I am in, I plan to focus heavily on leader members

Ministry Interview Report
Following and understanding the journeys of the ministers before us is significant in the light of
our own ministry. Each person should look up to a minister in their lives and understand their
methods along with their past and current positions. An interview is one of the best ways to
discover these. The person I interviewed has been my pastorand guide since I was born. He has
pastored at Community Baptist Church, the church I attend, my whole life. He has taught me most
of the things I knew concerning God previous to attending Barclay College. He baptized me when
I decided to accept Jesusas my savior at seventeen years old and helped keep me with Christ
throughout the years. This man s name is Richard Bishop, informally known as Pastor Rick. I
inquired of him the answers to four questions; How long have you been a pastor, and is
Community Baptist Church the only one you ve pastored? , What do you consider to be your
philosophy in ministry? , What type of educationdid you receive in order to become a pastor? , and,
What is the story behind your call to worship? .... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before Pastor Rick came to Community Baptist Church he had been a campus minister for sixteen
and a half years at the University of Phoenix. Thus leading to his participation in an
Interdenominational Christian Fellowship there on campus that helped train and teach student
leaders to lead other students to fellowship in Jesus Christ. Their goal was to administer
evangelism, discipleship, and ministry while helping lead students to Christ. Eventually, he felt a
calling to come back home to Wyoming to become a pastor. When he came back, he was assigned
to Community Baptist Church to serve as a pastor. He has now been there for twenty years and

Voltaire s Candide
Within the text, I really didn t have a take for many of the other stories besides Candide itself,
which seemed to be the highlight of the stories as it seems to be more humane based compared to
the others. When looking at the other stories, I felt that many of them strayed from key ideas of
humanity and relatableness that didn t really make me want to read them. For this reason, I ve
focused more on understanding Candidesince it was a very odd and compelling story that I both
took joy in reading along with a bit of confusion. Throughout it, I m often surprised with how the
story goes not because it is complex, but because it takes some weird turns in terms of plot. For
instance, we see that many characters die but within just a little bit later they are suddenly alive
for some random reason even though they should be dead. It kind of brought an odd feeling as I
was reading not only because elements similar to this were scattered about the story, but the story
itself was also comprised of many irregular elements. One of the main things that made me conflict
with the text a bit was it s simplistic way of developing the text through Candide s misfortunes. He
s consistently thrown out, beaten, tortured (both mentally and physically), and put to the test on
more than one occasion. Though, for some reason he seems to always be okay with it all even
coming to the point of progressing past many things that others wouldn t be able to handle. A big
part that I can remember is when

Jacob Riis How the Other Half Lives Essay
Jacob Riis How the Other Half Lives In How the Other Half Lives, the author Jacob Riis sheds
light on the darker side of tenant housing and urban dwellers. He goes to several different parts
of the city of New York witnessing first hand the hardships that many immigrants faced when
coming to America. His journalism and photographs of the conditions of the tenant housing
helped led the way of reformation in the slums of New York. His research opened the eyes of
many Americans to the darker side of the nation s lower class. Though it seems that he blamed
both the victims and the board forces of society, I believe that he placed more of the blame on the
board forces for the conditions that many immigrants faced. In the first few... Show more content on

Most contracts never mentioned the safety and comfort of tenants (p. 10). In addition, many of
the tenants were working and needed to be close to where they worked. The costs of living in
these tenement houses were ridiculously high for the condition and size of the rooms. Riis
described how some Italians were given board as long as the Italian made enough ash barrels to
feed him, which unfortunately caused many Italians to get use to free rent and thus many were
driven to another dump. Riis did not care much for the Italians, because of their lack of focus
and life style. One of the well known tenement housing the Bend was labeled as one of the bad
tenement houses, and even the optimists agreed. It was said that the more you had done the less it
has seemed to accomplish in the way of real relief (p 46). Also under the pressure of the growing
Italian community, the standard of breathing space required for an adult by the health officers was
cut from six hundred to four hundred cubic feet. With such increase in population in certain
tenement housing the sanitary policeman would locate the bulk of his four hundred, and the
sanitary reformer gives up the task in despair (p. 55). I personally think what he is saying is that
the community and government waited too long to start helping the lower class. That the problem
of overcrowding and of health regulations had gotten too far out of reach for us to help them. I had

Four Categories of Human Environmental Hazards Essay

The Four Categories of Human Environmental Hazards
There are many exposures to hazards in our environment today that brings along the risk of an
injury, different types of diseases, and even in some cases death. These hazards are called human
environmental hazards. There are four categories to human environmental hazards which we will
discover and discuss further in detail and they consist of cultural hazards, biological hazards,
physical hazards, and chemical hazards (Wright amp; Boorse, 2011).
We first begin with Cultural Hazards. Cultural hazards can result... Show more content on

The second environmental hazard we will look at is Biological Hazards. Up until around the 19th
and 20th centuries, the world became overwhelmed with serious issues such as pathogenic bacteria
and viruses that took millions of people lives. We now have available medicines and shots that
have disposed of many of these childhood sicknesses such as polio and smallpox (Wright amp;
Boorse, 2011). But the battle is not over, every person in every society are hosts to pathogenic
bacteria, fungi, viruses, protozoans, and worms. There are approximately one fourth of these
deaths that are due to serious issues such as infectious and parasitic diseases. The leading causes of
death are from acute respiratory infections and pneumonia has been by far the most deadliest and
serious of them all (Wright amp; Boorse, 2011).
The third environmental hazard is Physical Hazards. These types of hazards occur naturally, and
are the outcome of hydrological, meteorological, or geological forces. Physical hazards are
natural disasters such as hurricanes, volcanic eruptions, twisters, tsunamis, earthquakes, and floods
(Wright amp; Boorse, 2011). These hazards can come from nowhere and have little to no
warnings before they hit. Natural hazards are usually experienced by the least fortunate also
known as the poor who are not able of dealing with their effects of these disasters. Climate change

The Meaning Of The Movie Maleficent And Sleeping Beauty
Maleficent VS Sleeping Beauty
Throughout many years fairy tales have changed from warnings and nightmares to life goals
and bedtime stories. The movie Maleficent is a modern day retelling for the story Sleeping
Beauty. In Maleficent there is a fairy named Maleficent who falls in love with a boy who later
breaks her heart and has a baby with another woman. When Maleficent finds out he has had a
child, she curses the baby girl so she will prick her finger on her 16th birthday, causing her to fall
into a death like sleep that only true love s kiss will wake her from. Maleficent sneakily watches
over the child until her 16th birthday and loves her like her own child. When the 16 year old girl
pricks her finger the kiss from her prince does not wake her, but Maleficent s kiss goodbye does.
In the movie a lot of special effects are used when Maleficent is using magic or flying, and it is
also used when the other magical creatures are in any scene. The music used throughout the movie
sets the tone of what is happening and shows emotion. Many of the costumes used are similar to
Disney s movie of Sleeping Beauty like Maleficent s all black outfit and horns. The movie
Maleficent is a good retelling of the story Sleeping Beauty because of the special effects, music, and
costumes used within the film.
Special effects play a large role in movies now a days to better the quality and understanding of the
movie. In Maleficent special effects are used greatly when Maleficent is flying. When

Emerson s Theory Of Self-Reliance
An individual deferring to an expert opinion on a practical matter and instead chooses to follow
blindly to their own opinion is not a practitioner of self reliance. The moment an individual
chooses to forgo the guidance of an expert, who has the time and dedication in the field where
they spent their lives perfecting their craft, is the moment they become enslaved by their ego. I
will first give a brief explanation of Emerson s view on self reliance, and then show it relates to
today. Lastly I will explain the difference between being self reliant and thinking that you are self
reliant. Self Reliance, is an essay in which Ralph Waldo Emersonstresses his stance on why an
individual should be self reliant, a term in which he describes as a person who possesses the
necessary traits to carry out his own individuality against external norms and what their society
wishes for them to become. For a person to become self reliant, under Emerson s point of view, I
find three quotes that can support his notion: An individual must not seek things outside other than
himself, meaning one must not be seeking ideas that he did not formulate on his own, seek
approval from others who wish to change his character, or to seek to fit in a society that doesn t
match his interests. Instead, that person must embrace the qualities that make up themselves, not
making up for the community. For an individual to be a nonconformist, they should be stubborn to
conforming to the type of person

Impact of NAFTA on US Trade and Economy
Abstract The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has boosted the US economy
growth by introducing free trade with Mexico and Canada. Since, after the implementation of
NAFTA in 1994, US have experienced several favourable outcomes. The imports and exports of
agricultural goods, electronic equipment, machinery, automobiles, drugs, oil and minerals have
been increased among the NAFTA countries thus giving rise to total profits. The agreement has
also contributed in eliminating the unemployment in United States and has controlled inflation
rates. NAFTA bloc has also created number of job opportunities in the country. Moreover, the
consumer prices have been decreased and income levels of US citizens have been raised due to
reduced tariffs and taxes. This paper will discuss the facts and figures since 1993 and show how
United States has achieved benefits with NAFTA agreement. Introduction The North American
Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) is an international agreement between Canada, America and
Mexico. This agreement took effect in January 1994 and was signed by President Bill Clinton. This
agreement brought great changes in trade volumes and open new opportunities for millions of
labours. Later, in January 2008 according to the schedule all duties and restrictions were eliminated.
About 45,000 tariffs were eliminated in 1994 and only 3000 were left until 1999. NAFTA
implementation was highly supported by majority analysts and investors in United States. Though,

Abstinence-Only Curriculum
The controversial topic of whether or not sex education curriculum should teach contraceptive use
or abstinence only is heavily debated. In 2013, the U.S. totaled 273,105 babies born by teenagers,
ages from 15 to 19 ( About Teen Pregnancy ). This raises the question: why is the number of
pregnancies so high? Is the reason for that unsettling high, number because abstinence only is being
taught or contraceptive use is being taught? Students who are taught abstinence only are more
likely to wait to have sex, which results in the lowering of teen pregnancy. The abstinence only

Many think that teaching students about contraceptives will reduce teenagers from having
unplanned pregnancies. Research confirms that education provided by Planned Parenthood, which
teaches contraceptive use, helps increase the use of contraceptives and condoms when students do
become sexually active (Neering). This means that they stress the use of condoms over the idea of
waiting. What happens when condoms or birth control fail? The curriculum of abstinence only
believes that teaching contraceptive use just encourages teenagers to become sexually active
(ProQuest). According to the Center of Disease Control, waiting lowers the risk of unintended

Overall, sex education in U.S. schools should remain abstinence only curriculum. Abstinence only

contraceptive use curriculum will teach students to have less unprotected sex. This leaves the

Analysis Of The Book Watchmen By Dc Comics

Watchmen
Watchmen, by DC Comics, should be considered a literary work for its great use of realism and
deconstruction, storytelling and subplots, and the focus on personal character development and
their moral codes. Watchmen utilizes these aspects in a way that makes the reader change the way
they think about their popular culture and what is valuable to them. These aspects help solidify the
idea that Watchmenis the first in a new breed of comics, one in which they make the transition
from fantasy to literature. It is a work that is recognized by many as a revolutionary comic series,
and is even lauded as one of the best novels and most significant works of the 20th century. It has
solidified its place as a cultural classic in America and it would be injudicious to not see Watchmen
as a literary work.
In order to see Watchmen as a literary work, one must understand what that is. A classic is a
literary work our culture studies due to its ability to maintain being conventional, or popular, and
relevant despite times changing. When people think of an American classic, people think of
stories like Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird, F. Scott Fitzgeralds The Great Gatsby, and John
Steinbeck s The Grapes of Wrath. In these novels, the authors utilize certain aspects of language,
such as intense character development, subplots, and realism, and ties them together to create great,
detailed storylines. This use of language and

Alfred Hitchcock Use Of Suspense Essay
Alfred Hitchcock uses omission to set up suspense and a feeling of skepticism for the viewer.
Lighting, dialogue, and distance all are tools Hitchcock employs to aid in his omission of certain
details. The main asset Hitchcock exploits is the distance L.B. Jeffries is trapped at in comparison
to where the real drama takes place for much of the film. This distance leaves the viewer feeling
perturbed.
Hitchcock utilizes the distance between Jeffries s window, through which most of the film is
shot, and the actions taking place in the apartments all the way across the courtyard to hide the
dialogue between the characters. Jeffries is unable to leave his apartment and since the camera
does not either, the viewer is rendered just as impotent as him. Hitchcock makes it clear that Mr.
Thorwald is on the phone and from the attention drawn to him the viewer is led to believe that
what he is saying could lead to the discovery of what happened to his wife. The aspect of this
scene that adds suspense is the dark lighting making it impossible to see what he is saying. ... Show

Another consequence of Jeffries limited mobility is the paucity of sight. Hitchcock focuses in on
specific objects or moments implying their importance, but then gives no further information to
the viewer. When the men come to move the trunk the only information given is its relative size,
the caution with which it was packed, and Mr. Thorwald s desire to have it taken from his home.
Hitchcock omits what is in the trunk or where it is going. The viewer is then left to their
imagination to decide what it could possibly contain. Another aspect of the film omitted by limited
sight is what is happening with Mrs. Thorwald s jewelry. The viewer is able to see that the jewelry
was left behind, but any indication of what this actually means is left up in the

How Does Dave Barry Use Satire
Do you know what comedy is? Comedy is jokes or satirical sketches. Dave Barry s humorous
anecdote Dave Barry teaches his grandson life s lessons beginning with the ketchup is a high
level of comedy that uses satire and physical humor to reveal a universal truth about being trendy
and being a jerk. Also about making the right decisions in life. First Dave Barry uses satire that
forms comic situations. This makes people smirk and laugh a little. One of them is in the
beginning of the short story it says, If you want to impress a woman, do not buy her a gift that
has a plug (Barry 2). This quote shows that girls don t want appliances for a gift because they
will probably never use it and say this is the worst gift ever . Another way Barry uses satire is in
the middle of the short story Barry says, Popularity is way overrated, friendship is not (Barry 2).
This quote shows that friendship is better than having fake friends. These quotes made people smile
because they are two human situations that are realistic. Another comical thing... Show more content

This quote shows physical humor because it is very true that people believe their animals like
them, but they don t know because they can t talk to them. They just assume that. Although a
more humorous physical situation is toward the end of the short story it says, Do not be one of
those people who are constantly standing up and blocking the view of the people behind them at
concerts and sporting events (Barry 2). This relatable quote is funny because it happens to a lot
of people and many people are guilty of doing it to others without realizing it. Last but not least,
Dave Barry did a good job in making people chuckle and smirk. It was a funny short story that
many people could relate

Ricky Carmichael Research Paper
Ricky Carmichael competed in motocross from 1984 to 2007 and supercross from 2002 to
2007. Between the ages of five and sixteen he won sixty seven amateur championship awards.
When he began racing professionally he won American Motocross Association (AMA) 125cc
championships in 1997, twice in 1998, and in 1999. After he advanced to the 250cc class in
2000, Carmichael attained the title of AMA Motocross champion with two perfect seasons of
twenty four wins in 2002 and 2004 until 2007 where he entered stock car racing. In 1999 Ricky
attempted to compete in AMA Supercross but crashed hard in the first race of the season in
Anaheim. Later in 2000 he hired Aldon Baker as a personal trainer. Baker had been a mountain
bike racer before teaching Carmichael and had only recently lost his sponsorship. Baker had built
a training regiment for the 21 year old which had him running, lifting weights, and riding bicycles.
Ricky dropped 20 pounds and built up a bit of muscle, giving him the ability to easier control the
heavy 250cc Supercross bikes. In 2001 Carmichael returned to Supercross to win fourteen of
sixteen races, taking home his first Supercross title.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Polonius Essay
Polonius is a prideful man who takes his position on the court as the Chief Counselor of the King
more seriously than it actually is. He regards himself as witty and infallible, yet he is neither of
these. He wishes to prove his wit and intelligence to his peers, but by attempting to do so, he only
reveals just how much wit and intelligence he lacks. Throughout the play, Poloniusis presented as a
busybody who misinterprets almost everything (Bloom 19). Hamlets use of metaphors and pregnant
responses cause Polonius to realize he is not nearly as witty as he thought he was, or as Hamlet is.
This drives him into anger and frustration, and could possibly be the cause of his decline into
dotage. In Act II scene II, the audience witnesses Polonius s realization and how he reacts to it....

mental speed is revealed through conversation with Hamlet when he simply cannot keep up with

means. Sometimes he realizes that he did not fully understand Hamlet, but sometimes he does not
even realize Hamlet s statements have any meaning, reputing him as insane. Polonius also tries too
hard. He goes to great lengths to prove a point, even if it is not true. He often talks circles around
himself while in effort to sound intelligent. However, Polonius s hardworking and determined
characteristics are usually strengths, he just uses them for the wrong things. He will stop at nothing

My initial inspiration for this piece was Trifles, which funnily enough only shares the
characteristic of detectives being involved within the plot. As per suggestion on my proposal, I
developed my idea of detectives solving a case further by including dialogue and inter personnel
relationships similar to those found in Glengarry Glen Ross. Taking the idea of different
members of the real estate office discussing work and plotting in Glengarry Glen Ross, and
applying them to a trio of detectives on a case was interesting to say the least. Upon first thinking
of what I wanted to get across, I knew that some form of conspiracy was going to be present. This

This is why towards the end of the play he walks off stage never to return. Chris, I wrote with the
intention of making him an arrogant jerk, or someone that you would hate to work with. James
countered his personality to some extent, or would have if the victim had not been his friend. I
made this a point so that James would be off his game, so to speak. This would justify in Chris s
mind why he would need to act on the chief s wishes and kill James. In regards to the ending, I
chose to end the play on an ill fitting monologue of sorts. It was jarring enough to not fit the way
the rest of the dialogue was given during the bulk of the play, for I wanted to get across that
Chris was far worse of a person than just being arrogant. James in the end lets his anger with
Chris subside to the point that he may think that Chris is trying to apologize by offering to get
him a drink. This thought will inevitably prove to be another lack of judgment by James. Overall,
the process of writing a play was a fun experience that I would like to come back to at some point

characters was quite a challenge, and writing a story with nothing but dialogue for the most part
was also difficult; for the most part it is miles apart from writing fiction. Drawing inspiration from

Joko Theft Research Paper
Joke theft is a very real and serious problem. I believe that for a multitude of reasons, just some of
which vary from as simple as It s morally wrong. To as far as to say That s a comedian s way of
making money, by being funny and original, to take that originality and try to pass it off as your
own and especially if you get paid for it (as is the case in the article) is just cruel.
My opinion on this topic is that it varies from situation to situation, when it comes to news
related jokes, there is only a slim margin of ways to come up with a punch line. For example, I
watch a decent amount of the late comedic nightly news shows such as, Late Night with Seth
Meyers, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and The Daily show with Trevor Noah. To be
frank, most of their monologues sound similar and have a recognisable pattern with their jokes.
Being that they report on the news of the day with a comedic twist, they frequently have close if
not almost identical jokes, in this case I think it s not stealing each other s jokes it might just be
closer to that their writers had close, if not, identical ideas for jokes. On the other side of the
problem, there are situations in which a stand up comedian or a comedian of any kind has their
jokes taken and retold almost exactly or maybe they tweak something ... Show more content on

False Memory Processing Theory
Critically compare and contrast how well any TWO theoretical accounts of the false memory
effect account for empirical findings from the DRM paradigm In cognitive psychology, the
Activation/ Monitoring Theory (AMT) and the Fuzzy Trace Theory (FTT) are frameworks which
account for the false memory findings in the DRM paradigm. Roediger McDermott, (1995) define
false memories as ...either remembering events that never happened or remembering them quite
differently from the way they happened (p. 803). The DRM paradigm refers to an experiment; in

Two experiments were conducted; revealing false recall as well as false recognition in a list
learning paradigm (Roediger McDermott, 1995). Furthermore, the results from the second
experiment state that, participants recalled the critical non presented word on 55% of lists
(Roediger McDermott, 1995, p. 808). Both the AMT and FTT can account for these results, by
using different assumptions. However the AMT is able to provide a much thorough explanation
for these finding compared to the FTT. The AMT suggests the spreading activation mechanism
would accidently activate the lure word (critical non presented word). As a consequence, this could
increase the probability of participants mistaking the lure word for one that was previously on the
presented list. Arndt (2010) stated: although activation is the primary process... activation alone is
insufficient to explain why people behave as if lures were experiences in a particular encoding
context (p.2). Perhaps, in the other 45% of the lists where the lure was not recalled; this can be
explained by the monitoring process. The monitoring stage helps participants determine between
which words are produced internally and which were previously encountered; either at the time of

The Expedition Of Lewis And Clark
Without the expedition of Lewis and Clark, the American history that people know would be
completely different changing the accomplishments in history. The background and experience
Lewis and Clark already developed prior to the expedition would be very beneficial and help
make the journey easier. The development of the mission played a key part in the expedition
itself because if the development did not play out exactly how Jefferson planned, then the
expedition may not have been as successful. A big part of history, the expedition was very
significant and impacted American society in ways that no one will ever be able to understand.
Although the expedition of Lewis and Clark would be a very long journey, the United States
would not have developed into such a prosperous country without the two men who traveled
across the terrain in rain and snow in order to improve the United States. Meriwether Lewis was

history. In 1801, Thomas Jefferson asked Lewis to be his private secretary after he helped in the

The End Of The Dark Passage Essay
At the end of the dark passage was a room identical to the secret alcove in his court. For all of

Yan et al (2008) Ebeling (1997), pointed out the purpose of maintenance is to extend equipment life
and minimise the frequency of service interruption. Ebeling (1997) concluded that availability is the
important index of the all indices for power availability. Several maintenance types or tactics have
been suggested by many authors for example (Mowbray, 1991 and Kelly, 1997). There are mainly
two types of maintenance practices and these are breakdown and preventive maintenance.
Breakdown maintenance requires replacement of damaged part of the equipment during
unscheduled maintenance while preventive maintenance requires replacement of the components at
pre determined intervals. Condition based maintenance is used to monitor the condition of the
equipment using condition monitoring technique.
There is a general belief that corrective maintenance is less economical than preventive
maintenance, and all failures can then be prevented. This approach to preventive maintenance
firstly wastes a lot of resources in doing unnecessary tasks which will not improve equipment or

Comparing Islam And Christianity And Islam
Every religion consists of separate beliefs that determine how they view the world and how they
approach situations. Although some beliefs may overlap, there are still details that will be different
due to preconceptions and fundamental beliefs. Comparing and contrasting Islam and Christianity,
is a wonderful example of these differences based on fundamental beliefs. This concept is explored
in the rest of this work through critically accessing Christian and Muslim views on the question of

This means that man is above animals, but they are meant to respect and care for them. Muslims
are taught that animals should be respected and they should only slaughter them in a proper
Islamic manner (Abdul Rahman, 2004). It is also explained to them that they may only bring
harm to animals that may be eaten, or else they must seek forgiveness from Allah (Abdul

it is importance that man appreciates his creations (Gutierrez, 2014). It is inferred that Christians
should be activists for animal rights, but it is not clearly stated (Weider Gutierrez, 2014).
Although Christians are meant to do good and treat Gods creations well, they believe they are
destined to stray from this because of the original sin of man (Nigosian, 2004;2003). Therefore,
many Christians explain that being human means that you are an imperfect sinner. Muslims do not
share this idea. Islam explains that sin is not innate and that individuals have the ability to either
do good or bad and that it is their responsibility to make the right decision (Nigosian, 2004;2003).
Their ideas of predestined sin, lead to many fundamental differences in beliefs. Although both
religions state that humans were created to be rulers of earth, they have differing beliefs on man s
capability of doing good and different expectations. Allah accepts a

Big Bang Research Paper
The whole universe began with the big bang/big bang model which explains the theory holding
that in just a couple seconds the universe originated, from the instant explosion of a extremely
small nebulae. Approximately 15 billion years ago all matter in the universe today existed in an
incredibly hot and dense state, from which it expanded and cooled slowly coalescing into stars and
galaxies we have today. As the big bangwas taking place only the lightest of elements would be able
to form (hydrogen and helium) seeing that due to such a tremendous extent of heat the first
elements would have to form under the condition that they are not neutral atoms or atomic nuclei.
Roughly 14 billion years ago the first galaxies started to form, soon after... Show more content on

Penzias and Wilson discovered Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation which is the the radiation
that fills the universe and can be detected in every direction. The COBE and WMAP probes were
satellites launched by NASA to map the background microwave radiation and measure temperature
differences across the sky. These two satellites in particular confirm that CMBR is in fact true.
Today the universe is constantly expanding and is expected to continue doing so for forever. The
galaxies outside of our own this means that no matter what galaxy you happen to be in, all the
other galaxies are moving away from you. There is several theories of how the universe will end
but i support the thought that it will keep expanding until it reaches a sudden halt then forcing it to
collapse on

The Counseling Relationship Analysis
List and describe the stages of the counseling relationship as presented by the author of the
textbook. The Counseling Relationship consist of six stages: Rapport and Trust Building, Problem
Identification, Deepening Understanding and Goal Setting, Work, Closure, and Post Interview.
During Stage 1, Rapport and Trust Building, the counselor works on developing a comfortable and
trusting relationship with the use of good social skills, listening skills, empathy, and culture
sensitivity. Without loosing focus of the main purpose of the session (assisting the client with their
self identified problem), both the client and counselor will find common interest in an effort to
build their relationship with one another. The counselor mentally identifies issues the clients bring
up, all while eventfully reviewing with the client the accuracy of that list. The counselor will want
to ensure a safe environment and the client is informed of their basic framework and concerns of
the relationship. Professional disclosures are often provided during this stage. These are considered
legal documents for both the client and counselor to sign. During Stage 2 Problem Identification
occurs. The client and counselor will validate initial... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once termination has been decided on it should be a gradual process. Time is needed for both the
counselor and client to deal with the loss involved. Consider termination when: 1) the client is
close to reaching the agreed upon number of sessions, 2) there is a reduction or elimination of
symptoms, 3) the client has gained enough insight and skills to deal with further recurring
symptoms, 4) there is a resolution of transference issues, 5) the client has the ability to work
effectively, enjoy life, and play, and 6) continued services are not likely to be helpful. Clients and
Counselors both may resist

Different Server Roles of Windows 8 Server That Can Help...
As Savill (2008) points out, Windows Server 2008 is designed around certain roles and features.
A role is a primary duty that a server performs. Therefore, the managers at Kudler Fine Foods
need to understand what they hope to get out of their server before determining the roles they
will apply to Windows Server 2008. Some possible roles for the server include domain controller,
for example. There are a number of different possible roles available to install. These include the
following, according to Savill (2008):
Active Directory Certificate Services.
Active Directory Domain Services.
Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS).
Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services.
Active Directory Rights Management Services.
Application Server.
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) Server.
DNS Server.
Fax Server.
File Services.
Hyper V.
Network Policy and Access Services.
Print Services.
Terminal Services.
Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (UDDI) Services.
Web Server (IIS).
Windows Deployment Services (WDS)
Of these roles, Kudler Fine Foods can take advantage of many. The most obvious for day to day
use include Fax Server, File Services, and Web Server. Web server is important because it enables
sharing of information on the Internet, intranets, or extranets, (Savill, 2008). A fax server will
allow Kudler Fine Foods to accept faxed orders, as well as communications from suppliers. This
will allow the company to ensure inventory

History Of The Boston Neighborhood Basketball League
Boston Neighborhood Basketball League
Concept Paper
This summer 2016, the Boston Neighborhood Basketball League (BNBL) will celebrate 47 years
of providing an outstanding recreational experience for thousands of youth in the City of Boston. It
is the finest neighborhood basketball league in the country, encompassing sports recreation and
community engagement. Its value is in its history and its people. BNBL has helped make Boston a
basketball town . Even more valuable, it has helped make summers in Boston happier and safer, by
providing a physical outlet for Boston youngsters throughout the city.
In the early spring of 1969 a group of Boston community leaders had an idea about creating a city
wide basketball program to both introduce the

The Plan For Public Health And Safety
The next component of the General Plan is the plan for public health and safety which addresses
issues of: Geology and Seismicity, Flooding and Drainage, Noise, Air Installation Land Use
Compatibility, Hazardous Materials, Crime Prevention and Protection Services, Fire Prevention and
Suppression Services, Disaster Preparedness, Emergency Medical Facilities. The issue of geology
and seismicity is important to the Lancasterarea at large due to its location being less than ten
miles south of the San Andreas Fault. Major earthquakes in the area present a problem for
citizen s safety and possible property damage. A similar issue is that of flooding and drainage.
Because Lancaster exists within a valley and is relatively flat, the area is prone to flooding. One
of the current propositions is to include flood water basins. The water basins to mitigate for the
100 year flood are essentially large ditches on the corner of neighborhood streets. When a water
basin sits in the middle of a neighborhood it is not a functional part of the surrounding environment
and can become an eyesore in a community. This probably causes the NIMBY ism around water
basins, no matter how beneficial they may be. Noise is a very prevalent issue in Lancaster, due to
the amount of aeronautical activity conducted on EAFB. The Cityhas rezoned the flight area in
order to decrease the amount of overhead flights in the urbanized areas. This plan is mimicked in
the Air Installation Land UseCompatibility portion.

The Naval Actions Of The War Of Afghanistan
The naval actions of the Revolution to the mountains of Afghanistan, the Marines have served
valiantly in every one of our nation s conflicts. For hundreds of years, Marines have fought, lived
and died with honor, continuing the Marine Corps legacy of service to our nation. Every
Marine, past and presents, his earned their place within this proud culture of traditions, symbols
and valves. On November 10, 1775 two Battalions of Continental Marines were born in
Philadelphia, PA. They were formed as a branch of infantry troops that were able to fight on both
sea and on the shore. Since then the role of Marines has grown and evolved, expanding to aerial
and warfare. They earned the titles of American s third Air Force and the Second Land Army.
The Marines have served in the majority of American wars and armed conflicts. I served in the
Marines for eight years, and the experiences and knowledge you get is nothing like you have
every got. Joining the Marines is a long process, and there are a lot of steps to take before one
can call himself a United States Marine. Marines a highly exclusive, highly motivated bunch.
Those who become Marines do so because they want to, not because of the benefits or other
reasons. Here are the steps of joining the Marines. Is becoming a Marine right for you. You need
to decide if you re truly ready, you need to choose the right path for you, you need to meet with a
recruiter, and ace the ASVAB (Armed Service Vocational Aptitude Battery), process in

Some Theorists Believe Cinema Must Be Realistic And May Some theorists believe cinema must be realistic and may only be seen as art if it remains in its original form a static image on film stock. Others, however, argue that cinema is an important and relevant art medium no matter its form. Digital cinema, while making use of new and different technologies such as animation, is the next step in the evolution of film. Contrary to what certain theorists believe, it is the most efficient and most artistically inclined way to create films as it offers a world of possibilities. This is elaborated on in Digital Cinema and the History of a Moving Image, an excerpt from What Is Cinema? the sixth chapter of The Language of New Cinema, a book penned by Lev Manovich. Indeed, the author describes how... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This mobility was acquired thanks to pre cinematic creations such as the Zootrope. What followed was the debut of cinema as a moving image on film stock. This prompted documentary style short films, such as L ArrivГ©e d un train en gare Г la Ciotat by Auguste and Louis LumiГЁre, as well as, later on, fictional feature films, like Charlie Chaplin s Modern Times. However, by mid 2011, 50 per cent of the more than 39,500 North American screens had become digital. [And, in] the United States, the major distributors have announced that they will cease to distribute films on 35mm film by the end of 2013. Thus, certain directors such as James Cameron and George Lucas are advocates for fully digitally shot films. As a matter of fact, in 1984, George Lucas developed EditDroid and SoundDroid, computerized, electronic non linear editing systems for image and sound. Furthermore, cinema has evolved in terms of animation as well. In fact, the types of animation that are currently in use are so entirely different than the kinds filmmakers had to use in the past. For example, while MeliГЁs was required to hand paint each and every single one of his film s frames for Le Voyage dans la Lune, James Cameron s Avatar was able to make use of digital technologies in order to make the film 3D as well as to turn human actors into the aliens featured in the film. PRELIMINARIES This section expands a brief explanation of the basic frame work of the principal component analysis and fuzzy logic, along with some of the key basic concepts. A. The principal component analysis (PCA) The Principal component analysis (PCA) is an essential technique in data compression and feature reduction [13] and it is a statistical technique applied to reduce a set of correlated variables to smaller uncorrelated variables to each other. PCA is considered as special transformation which produces the principal components (PCs) Known as eigenvectors. Fuzzy logic Zadeh [15] introduced the concept of fuzzy logic to present vagueness in linguistics, and to implement and express human knowledge and inference capability in a natural way. The fuzzy logic starts with the concept of fuzzy sets which is defined as a set without a crisp. It is clearly defined boundary and can contain elements with only a partial degree of member ship. The main power of fuzzy logic image processing is in the middle step (membership function) [16] A membership function defines how each value in the input space is mapped to a membership value (or degree of membership) between the range of 0 and 1. Hertogenbosch is where Bosch got his last name. Bosch lived, grew up and died in Hertogenbosch. He never left the city, it is surprising that his artwork became famous. Bosch came from a family of painters. His father, uncle, and grandfather were all painters, unfortunately none of their works survived. Bosch joined the Brotherhood of Our Lady, a local religious organization devoted to the Virgin Mary, around 1486. Some of his first commissions came through the Brotherhood ,but unfortunately, none of those works survived. He then married Alety Goyaerts den Meervenne. Her family was wealthy so this union improved Bosch s social status. Bosch s most famous painting is the Garden of Earthly Delight. It has amazing imagery and exaggerations and also contained many vivid scenes. Few painters packed more detail into their work than Hieronymus Bosch. The wings of Bosch s triptych open to reveal a color filled interior bursting with strange architecture, unnatural landforms, and all types of hybrid creatures. In the main part of the left hand panel, God the Father stands between the naked figures of Adam and Eve, surrounded by various flora and fauna. I also expected social and economic differences. Being the newcomer, to the work situation and environment, there was the need for me to learn about the governmental rules and processes for how decisions are made. In addition, after a few times of being corrected, I learned to call Massachusetts a Commonwealth, not a State. Voltaire s Candide Within the text, I really didn t have a take for many of the other stories besides Candide itself, which seemed to be the highlight of the stories as it seems to be more humane based compared to the others. When looking at the other stories, I felt that many of them strayed from key ideas of humanity and relatableness that didn t really make me want to read them. For this reason, I ve focused more on understanding Candidesince it was a very odd and compelling story that I both took joy in reading along with a bit of confusion. Throughout it, I m often surprised with how the story goes not because it is complex, but because it takes some weird turns in terms of plot. For instance, we see that many characters die but within just a little bit later they are suddenly alive for some random reason even though they should be dead. It kind of brought an odd feeling as I was reading not only because elements similar to this were scattered about the story, but the story itself was also comprised of many irregular elements. One of the main things that made me conflict with the text a bit was it s simplistic way of developing the text through Candide s misfortunes. He s consistently thrown out, beaten, tortured (both mentally and physically), and put to the test on more than one occasion. But the battle is not over, every person in every society are hosts to pathogenic bacteria, fungi, viruses, protozoans, and worms. The leading causes of death are from acute respiratory infections and pneumonia has been by far the most deadliest and serious of them all (Wright amp; Boorse, 2011). When Maleficent finds out he has had a child, she curses the baby girl so she will prick her finger on her 16th birthday, causing her to fall into a death like sleep that only true love s kiss will wake her from. Maleficent sneakily watches over the child until her 16th birthday and loves her like her own child. When the 16 year old girl pricks her finger the kiss from her prince does not wake her, but Maleficent s kiss goodbye does. Emerson s Theory Of Self-Reliance An individual deferring to an expert opinion on a practical matter and instead chooses to follow blindly to their own opinion is not a practitioner of self reliance. The moment an individual chooses to forgo the guidance of an expert, who has the time and dedication in the field where they spent their lives perfecting their craft, is the moment they become enslaved by their ego. I will first give a brief explanation of Emerson s view on self reliance, and then show it relates to today. Lastly I will explain the difference between being self reliant and thinking that you are self reliant. Self Reliance, is an essay in which Ralph Waldo Emersonstresses his stance on why an individual should be self reliant, a term in which he describes as a person who possesses the necessary traits to carry out his own individuality against external norms and what their society wishes for them to become. For a person to become self reliant, under Emerson s point of view, I find three quotes that can support his notion: An individual must not seek things outside other than himself, meaning one must not be seeking ideas that he did not formulate on his own, seek approval from others who wish to change his character, or to seek to fit in a society that doesn t match his interests. Instead, that person must embrace the qualities that make up themselves, not making up for the community. Analysis Of The Book Watchmen By Dc Comics Colin Ellis Dr. Angel ENGL 2322.P01 21 March 2016 Watchmen Watchmen, by DC Comics, should be considered a literary work for its great use of realism and deconstruction, storytelling and subplots, and the focus on personal character development and their moral codes. Watchmen utilizes these aspects in a way that makes the reader change the way they think about their popular culture and what is valuable to them. These aspects help solidify the idea that Watchmenis the first in a new breed of comics, one in which they make the transition from fantasy to literature. It is a work that is recognized by many as a revolutionary comic series, and is even lauded as one of the best novels and most significant works of the 20th century. It has solidified its place as a cultural classic in America and it would be injudicious to not see Watchmen as a literary work. In order to see Watchmen as a literary work, one must understand what that is. A classic is a literary work our culture studies due to its ability to maintain being conventional, or popular, and relevant despite times changing. When people think of an American classic, people think of stories like Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird, F. Scott Fitzgeralds The Great Gatsby, and John Steinbeck s The Grapes of Wrath. • 23. Alfred Hitchcock Use Of Suspense Essay Alfred Hitchcock uses omission to set up suspense and a feeling of skepticism for the viewer. Lighting, dialogue, and distance all are tools Hitchcock employs to aid in his omission of certain details. The main asset Hitchcock exploits is the distance L.B. Jeffries is trapped at in comparison to where the real drama takes place for much of the film. This distance leaves the viewer feeling perturbed. Hitchcock utilizes the distance between Jeffries s window, through which most of the film is shot, and the actions taking place in the apartments all the way across the courtyard to hide the dialogue between the characters. Dave Barry s humorous anecdote Dave Barry teaches his grandson life s lessons beginning with the ketchup is a high level of comedy that uses satire and physical humor to reveal a universal truth about being trendy and being a jerk. Also about making the right decisions in life. First Dave Barry uses satire that forms comic situations. This makes people smirk and laugh a little. One of them is in the beginning of the short story it says, If you want to impress a woman, do not buy her a gift that has a plug (Barry 2). This quote shows that girls don t want appliances for a gift because they will probably never use it and say this is the worst gift ever . Another way Barry uses satire is in the middle of the short story Barry says, Popularity is way overrated, friendship is not (Barry 2). My initial inspiration for this piece was Trifles, which funnily enough only shares the characteristic of detectives being involved within the plot. As per suggestion on my proposal, I developed my idea of detectives solving a case further by including dialogue and inter personnel relationships similar to those found in Glengarry Glen Ross. Taking the idea of different members of the real estate office discussing work and plotting in Glengarry Glen Ross, and applying them to a trio of detectives on a case was interesting to say the least. James countered his personality to some extent, or would have if the victim had not been his friend. I made this a point so that James would be off his game, so to speak. This would justify in Chris s mind why he would need to act on the chief s wishes and kill James. In regards to the ending, I chose to end the play on an ill fitting monologue of sorts. It was jarring enough to not fit the way the rest of the dialogue was given during the bulk of the play, for I wanted to get across that Chris was far worse of a person than just being arrogant. James in the end lets his anger with Chris subside to the point that he may think that Chris is trying to apologize by offering to get him a drink. This thought will inevitably prove to be another lack of judgment by James. Overall, the process of writing a play was a fun experience that I would like to come back to at some point in time, possibly to expand this story in which I have now crafted. To as far as to say That s a comedian s way of making money, by being funny and original, to take that originality and try to pass it off as your own and especially if you get paid for it (as is the case in the article) is just cruel. My opinion on this topic is that it varies from situation to situation, when it comes to news related jokes, there is only a slim margin of ways to come up with a punch line. For example, I watch a decent amount of the late comedic nightly news shows such as, Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and The Daily show with Trevor Noah. To be frank, most of their monologues sound similar and have a recognisable pattern with their jokes. Being that they report on the news of the day with a comedic twist, they frequently have close if not almost identical jokes, in this case I think it s not stealing each other s jokes it might just be closer to that their writers had close, if not, identical ideas for jokes. The AMT suggests the spreading activation mechanism would accidently activate the lure word (critical non presented word). As a consequence, this could increase the probability of participants mistaking the lure word for one that was previously on the presented list. Arndt (2010) stated: although activation is the primary process... activation alone is insufficient to explain why people behave as if lures were experiences in a particular encoding context (p.2). The Plan For Public Health And Safety The next component of the General Plan is the plan for public health and safety which addresses issues of: Geology and Seismicity, Flooding and Drainage, Noise, Air Installation Land Use Compatibility, Hazardous Materials, Crime Prevention and Protection Services, Fire Prevention and Suppression Services, Disaster Preparedness, Emergency Medical Facilities. The issue of geology and seismicity is important to the Lancasterarea at large due to its location being less than ten miles south of the San Andreas Fault. Major earthquakes in the area present a problem for citizen s safety and possible property damage. A similar issue is that of flooding and drainage. Because Lancaster exists within a valley and is relatively flat, the area is prone to flooding. One of the current propositions is to include flood water basins. The water basins to mitigate for the 100 year flood are essentially large ditches on the corner of neighborhood streets. When a water basin sits in the middle of a neighborhood it is not a functional part of the surrounding environment and can become an eyesore in a community. This probably causes the NIMBY ism around water basins, no matter how beneficial they may be. Noise is a very prevalent issue in Lancaster, due to the amount of aeronautical activity conducted on EAFB. The Cityhas rezoned the flight area in order to decrease the amount of overhead flights in the urbanized areas. This plan is mimicked in the Air Installation Land UseCompatibility portion. ...
