This chapter discusses nonverbal communication and its functions. Nonverbal communication includes gestures, facial expressions, eye contact, tone of voice, appearance, use of space, touch, time, and culture. It can reinforce, substitute, contradict, or regulate verbal communication. Nonverbal codes are symbols used to communicate without words, and they are influenced by culture, technology, and the situation. The chapter aims to describe the power of nonverbal communication and various nonverbal codes.
