This document discusses nonverbal communication and defines it as the process of transmitting messages through behaviors, physical characteristics, and objects without using words. It identifies several categories of nonverbal communication, including aesthetics, artifacts, chronemics, haptics, kinesics, paralanguage, physical appearance, proxemics, and oculesics. Each category is examined in one to two sentences, with kinesics and paralanguage discussed in slightly more detail regarding gender differences and how meanings can be misinterpreted.
