Reading
 Understanding
 Reading is a complex “cognitive
process” of decoding symbols in order to
construct or derive meaning . Reading
is a means of language acquisition,
communication and of sharing
information and ideas.
 Reading books improve vocabulary.
Books improve our communication
skills.
 Learning to read is a sequential
process; each new skill builds on the
mastery of previously learned skills.
 The ability to read is a vital skill in
being able to function in today’s society.
Readingand
Reflection
 It is meant to encourage students to
reflect meta cognitively on what they
have read. It allow the students to
begin to internalize the information by
summarizing it in their own.
 Reflection on a book- what you think
about a book- expression of ideas and
perceiving the ideas.
 Examples – reflection of sound ,light
and water waves
 Add your thoughts and analysis to
what you have understand and
experienced
 Illustrate your ideas and possible
practice in future.
How to writea
record
 Select &Collect the basic information –
Title Author, year, Publisher, editor,
Type, Group of Readers, Wrapper
design and quality of paper.
 Summary – key points.
 My views- lang., content, theme,
organisation, merit and demerit of the
concept.
 Suggestion
 Educational implication
 Discussion
 My meta cognitive awareness- strategy
to improve my next reading.
 Learning outcomes /conclusion
Book review
 3 books
 Story book or novel.- 50 pages to 100
pages
 Books related to Education- Check the
Reference or library.
 General books – self motivational books
and your favorite author Book.
 Audio review.
 Read& Criticize - Editorial articles of
News paper or Magazine.
Activities
 Individual reading
 Group Reading or discussion
 Retelling- in one’s own words/ from
different points of view (taking turns in
a smaller group)
 Narrating /describing a related account
from one’s life experience.
 Discussion of characters and situations.
 Writing based on the text.
 Eg. summary of a scene, extrapolation
of story,converting a situation in to a
dialogue etc.
 Expected output: keeping a record.
Specialactivity
 Engaging with subject related ref. book
 The student teacher should work in
groups divided according to their subjects
with in these groups, pairs of student
teachers would make choice of a specific
topic in their specfic subject area which
they could research from a set of available
reference books.
 1. Select the topic and articulate some
guiding question
 2.Locate relevant books in the Library
 3.Scan,skim and extract relevant
information.
 4 Planning a presentation- with display or
oral components.
 Make presentation to the subject group
and fielding questions
 Expected output: PPt presentation.

 Ingenious report- expression of opinion
by prominent men or women given in
speeches or interviews.
 An article on topic of local interest
written after sufficient search of
matters relevant to them.
