RADIO ADVERTISMENT EVALUATION
With the advert I had created for the sixth form, I met the needs of the client by following the
guidelines and instructions of things they wanted to be included/followed. For example, I
limited the advertisement to just under 30 seconds as 30 seconds was the limit. This was
due to the fact that the school had a limited budget to cover the costs of two adverts. The
main school (year 7) advert and the one for the sixth form.
In regards to what the client liked and disliked, their feedback was that we had thought well
about the intended target audience of the two adverts, as well as choosing suitable voice
actors for our adverts, in accordance with our target audience. In addition, good tone from
the voice actors. Regarding improvements, the general view was that we needed to be
clearer on the date for the opening evening, the name of the school and the website to visit if
a potential year 11 student or parent of a year 7 child was to visit it to find out more
information. Therefore, we had to slightly adjust the script and when recording, we made
sure the voice actors we used, were very clear withy this information , leaving no doubt in
the audience’s mind on what to do and where to go for more information.
The advertisement follows all ethical and legal requirements as we made sure they were all
met prior to production, there is no material in our advert that is in breach of the rules set out
by the BBFC and other such companies, such as OFCOM and the ASA. Furthermore, I think
that the advert produced is very professional and sounds as such. There were many simple
but necessary adjustments that needed to be made in order for the advertisement to sound
professional and suitable to be aired on a commercial radio. These adjustments include
have to slice of up the audio track into many different ones, in order to increase the length of
time in between each sentence. This was done so that the target audience could fully
understand the message we were sending with our adverts as the voice actor spoke quite
fast. This meant I had to create individual audio tracks for each sentence and precisely
space them out in order to fill as much of the 30 seconds as I could and to allow a good
amount of time for the information to be heard by the audience. Another adjustment I had to
make to the advert was balancing out the volume of the script and the background music as
I could not simply turn down the music to a certain amount (the intention was to have the
music quieter). I also had to lower the volume of the voice to a certain degree in order for it
not to be too loud in comparison the music, but so that the music could still be heard and still
had a presence on the advert, noticeable to the listeners.
One strength of our group was that once we got all our ideas down, we were very effective at
working to together to get all the parts of the production process completed. For example, at
points of the process, some members of the team were not present but we managed to
cover the work for them to ensure that we stuck to each deadline and were moving at a
constant speed of production. Effectively, this meant that work was constantly being
produced rather than leaving it to the absent person purely because we didn’t want to do it,
as that was not an option. However, a weakness of the group is that we spent a long time
procrastinating about our ideas and it took some time to formulate them. Despite this, we
managed to make up for that once we were all clear on what each of us had to do in the
production process of the advert.
The only thing I would change about the advertisement is the voice actor for the Sixth Form
advert as I do not believe they had a suitable voice for radio and the way they spoke was not
the way I had envisioned it to be, especially as I had to cut and slide the audio in order for it
to work well and sound like a professionally made advertisement. The voice actor for this
particular advert was me.

In regards to what the client liked and disliked, their feedback was that we had thought well about the intended target audience of the two adverts, as well as choosing suitable voice actors for our adverts, in accordance with our target audience. In addition, good tone from the voice actors. Regarding improvements, the general view was that we needed to be clearer on the date for the opening evening, the name of the school and the website to visit if a potential year 11 student or parent of a year 7 child was to visit it to find out more information. Therefore, we had to slightly adjust the script and when recording, we made sure the voice actors we used, were very clear withy this information , leaving no doubt in the audience’s mind on what to do and where to go for more information. The advertisement follows all ethical and legal requirements as we made sure they were all met prior to production, there is no material in our advert that is in breach of the rules set out by the BBFC and other such companies, such as OFCOM and the ASA. Furthermore, I think that the advert produced is very professional and sounds as such. There were many simple but necessary adjustments that needed to be made in order for the advertisement to sound professional and suitable to be aired on a commercial radio. These adjustments include have to slice of up the audio track into many different ones, in order to increase the length of time in between each sentence. This was done so that the target audience could fully understand the message we were sending with our adverts as the voice actor spoke quite fast. This meant I had to create individual audio tracks for each sentence and precisely space them out in order to fill as much of the 30 seconds as I could and to allow a good amount of time for the information to be heard by the audience. Another adjustment I had to make to the advert was balancing out the volume of the script and the background music as I could not simply turn down the music to a certain amount (the intention was to have the music quieter). I also had to lower the volume of the voice to a certain degree in order for it not to be too loud in comparison the music, but so that the music could still be heard and still had a presence on the advert, noticeable to the listeners. One strength of our group was that once we got all our ideas down, we were very effective at working to together to get all the parts of the production process completed. For example, at points of the process, some members of the team were not present but we managed to cover the work for them to ensure that we stuck to each deadline and were moving at a constant speed of production. Effectively, this meant that work was constantly being produced rather than leaving it to the absent person purely because we didn’t want to do it, as that was not an option. However, a weakness of the group is that we spent a long time procrastinating about our ideas and it took some time to formulate them. Despite this, we managed to make up for that once we were all clear on what each of us had to do in the production process of the advert. The only thing I would change about the advertisement is the voice actor for the Sixth Form advert as I do not believe they had a suitable voice for radio and the way they spoke was not the way I had envisioned it to be, especially as I had to cut and slide the audio in order for it to work well and sound like a professionally made advertisement.
