Ideas and planning
I have decided to go with a car advertisement as I feel I will be able to adapt better to
the fast up beat music and the types of SFX needed. Looking at examples of previous car
adverts it is essential the track and script is synchronised and in time with the music.
Use of Editing/ Dubbing/ Sound
I will be editing this project on Cubase, Audacity, and reason. I will need to alter the
mixer on Cubase of the track to make sure it is suitable for the advert. Sound will have
to be upbeat and I will have to experiment with sound effects on the keyboard.

Add tracking
Ad tracking, also known as post-testing or ad effectiveness tracking is in-market
research that monitors a brand’s performance including brand and advertising
awareness, product trial and usage, and attitudes about the brand versus their
competition.
Depending on the speed of the purchase cycle in the category, tracking can be done
continuously (a few interviews every week) or it can be “pulsed,” with interviews
conducted in widely spaced waves (ex. every three or six months). Interviews can either
be conducted with separate, matched samples of consumers, or with a single
(longitudinal) panel that is interviewed over time.
Since the researcher has information on when the ads launched, the length of each
advertising flight, the dollars spent, and when the interviews were conducted, the
results of ad tracking can provide information on the effects of advertising.
Dubbing
In sound recording, dubbing is the transfer or copying of previously recorded audio
material from one medium to another of the same or a different type. It may be done
with a machine designed for this purpose, or by connecting two different machines: one
to play back and one to record the signal. The purpose of dubbing may be simply to
make multiple copies of audio programs, or it may be done to preserve programs on old
media which are deteriorating and may otherwise be lost.
Synchronising sound
Sync sound (synchronized sound recording) refers to sound recorded at the time of
the filming of movies, and has been widely used in movies since the birth of sound
movies.

It is essential that any voice over are in synchronised with music as it will not look
professional otherwise. It will also distract the audience’s attention.
Script for advert
To highlight the spacious inside of the vans an illuminated forklift truck is moving rapidly
within the inner circle of the vans.
Different sized Boxes are lifted into the vans to exaggerate space.

starting indicate the beginning of the advert it
also displays the ease of which the van starts.

wood facing high red gloss vans. The vans
backdoors open and close in time to the beat of
the music revealing a large interior at the back
of the vans.

What type of brief is this?
This particular project is a formal brief. This means it was written in a document containing
specific and precise details about the goals that needs to be achieved. The brief gets straight to
the point and doesn’t contain any unnecessary detail or information. This type of brief can be
seen for group work or individual work. I understand that this type of brief does not have to be
a legal document but it must include and be well demonstrated all the aspects the client is
asking for. There are several benefits of this type of brief as it is straight forward and detailed. It
is not miss leading and can be understood clearly and confidently
Ideas and planning
After receiving this brief I now have to re consider how I am going to make this advertisement
work. I will start by producing several mind maps which will help me and guide through the
length of this project. In my mind map I looked at a variety of my competitors car adverts. The
use of diegetic and non-diegetic sounds are presented well each sequence, which is something I
want to make sure my advertisement has and is done well in to a high professional standard. I
learnt a lot from my brainstorm, it helped me realise what I wanted the outcome to look like
(which it did). I want up beat music with many diverse SFX along with my own recordings.
Legal and ethical considerations
Before I even began to edit this advert I had to make sure it was suitable for the audience to
watch, which it was. The advert, music, Sound effects could not offend the audience at all
because this would have a huge impact on income on the company, bad reputation of the
product itself and a loss of money that was put into the making of it. Admittedly the video itself
was copied and all procedures were done legally for college purposes only. I used Cubase’s’
sound libraries to develop my track, this included a bass track, guitar and hallion track.
Race, gender, age, religion
The track to my advert had to firstly be suitable for the video, but also for the audience and the
types of people who would be viewing it. When I made my track I took into consideration all the
different religions age and gender of people. I feel my advert does not offend anyone in any way
as each aspect of it was done to please and entertain the audience. Majority of my audience
would be male by 70% as it is a car advert. Most men pay more attention to ‘manly’
advertisements whereas on the other hand, a female would pay more attention to a beauty
product advert as it relates to their life more than a car advert would. I would base this
advertisement age around 18 – 30 year olds. I feel this a correct age to promote this advert to.
Stereotypically within this age gap most people can drive and have some sort of interest in cars.
I made sure the soundtrack to this advertisement had no lyrics in as it can be offensive to people
who are dedicated to their religion.
Genre and target audience
In comparison to the original soundtrack for this advert, mine is completely different In many
ways. Before it came across very rock n’ roll. My initial first thought was that it would not
worked as it is directing it to a specific target audience. This is something I wanted to change, I
decided to make my advertisement soundtrack fun, bubbly, and up eat this way everyone can
appreciate it and can watch it with enjoyment. I think I proved this with the use of my sound
effects, each one is very loud fun and quirky. My target audience has a very large age gap, I have
done this because I want the audience to feel they can watch my advertisement without feeling
they shouldn’t because they do not fulfil the stereotype of who should because of imagery, text
and music used.
Voice over, File naming, Sound list
When you listen to my soundtrack you will realise that the voice over was pre-recorded in a
studio using a ‘Zoom’. I wrote out the script and recorded it myself, which I then edited on
Cubase later. I altered the volume and speed of because at first it was very slow.
In Cubase I had to rename almost every track so I could define what instrument was what. This
was something I was new too but I later realized in post-production how useful it is.
I used various sounds from Cubase to produce my soundtrack, I made a sound list which helps
me and narrows down what sound I am looking for. This is good when you know exactly what
sound you want. I also used a keyboard which I connected to Cubase so I could experiment
myself.

  • 1. Ideas and planning I have decided to go with a car advertisement as I feel I will be able to adapt better to the fast up beat music and the types of SFX needed. Looking at examples of previous car adverts it is essential the track and script is synchronised and in time with the music. Use of Editing/ Dubbing/ Sound I will be editing this project on Cubase, Audacity, and reason. I will need to alter the mixer on Cubase of the track to make sure it is suitable for the advert. Sound will have to be upbeat and I will have to experiment with sound effects on the keyboard. Depending on the speed of the purchase cycle in the category, tracking can be done continuously (a few interviews every week) or it can be “pulsed,” with interviews conducted in widely spaced waves (ex. every three or six months). Interviews can either be conducted with separate, matched samples of consumers, or with a single (longitudinal) panel that is interviewed over time. Since the researcher has information on when the ads launched, the length of each advertising flight, the dollars spent, and when the interviews were conducted, the results of ad tracking can provide information on the effects of advertising. Dubbing In sound recording, dubbing is the transfer or copying of previously recorded audio material from one medium to another of the same or a different type. It may be done with a machine designed for this purpose, or by connecting two different machines: one to play back and one to record the signal. The purpose of dubbing may be simply to make multiple copies of audio programs, or it may be done to preserve programs on old media which are deteriorating and may otherwise be lost. Synchronising sound Sync sound (synchronized sound recording) refers to sound recorded at the time of the filming of movies, and has been widely used in movies since the birth of sound movies. It will also distract the audience’s attention.
  • 3. Script for advert To highlight the spacious inside of the vans an illuminated forklift truck is moving rapidly within the inner circle of the vans. Different sized Boxes are lifted into the vans to exaggerate space. Time code Dialogue 00.00.1 Not only does the image of the van ignition starting indicate the beginning of the advert it also displays the ease of which the van starts. 00.00.06 The warehouse setting shows a circle of out wood facing high red gloss vans.   • 4. What type of brief is this? This particular project is a formal brief. This means it was written in a document containing specific and precise details about the goals that needs to be achieved. The brief gets straight to the point and doesn’t contain any unnecessary detail or information. This type of brief can be seen for group work or individual work. I understand that this type of brief does not have to be a legal document but it must include and be well demonstrated all the aspects the client is asking for. There are several benefits of this type of brief as it is straight forward and detailed. It is not miss leading and can be understood clearly and confidently Ideas and planning After receiving this brief I now have to re consider how I am going to make this advertisement work. I will start by producing several mind maps which will help me and guide through the length of this project. In my mind map I looked at a variety of my competitors car adverts. The use of diegetic and non-diegetic sounds are presented well each sequence, which is something I want to make sure my advertisement has and is done well in to a high professional standard. I learnt a lot from my brainstorm, it helped me realise what I wanted the outcome to look like (which it did). I want up beat music with many diverse SFX along with my own recordings. Legal and ethical considerations Before I even began to edit this advert I had to make sure it was suitable for the audience to watch, which it was. The advert, music, Sound effects could not offend the audience at all because this would have a huge impact on income on the company, bad reputation of the product itself and a loss of money that was put into the making of it. Admittedly the video itself was copied and all procedures were done legally for college purposes only. I used Cubase’s’ sound libraries to develop my track, this included a bass track, guitar and hallion track. Race, gender, age, religion The track to my advert had to firstly be suitable for the video, but also for the audience and the types of people who would be viewing it. When I made my track I took into consideration all the different religions age and gender of people. I feel my advert does not offend anyone in any way as each aspect of it was done to please and entertain the audience. Majority of my audience would be male by 70% as it is a car advert. Most men pay more attention to ‘manly’ advertisements whereas on the other hand, a female would pay more attention to a beauty product advert as it relates to their life more than a car advert would. I would base this advertisement age around 18 – 30 year olds. I feel this a correct age to promote this advert to. Stereotypically within this age gap most people can drive and have some sort of interest in cars. I made sure the soundtrack to this advertisement had no lyrics in as it can be offensive to people who are dedicated to their religion. Genre and target audience In comparison to the original soundtrack for this advert, mine is completely different In many ways. Before it came across very rock n’ roll. My initial first thought was that it would not worked as it is directing it to a specific target audience. This is something I wanted to change, I
  • 5. decided to make my advertisement soundtrack fun, bubbly, and up eat this way everyone can appreciate it and can watch it with enjoyment. I think I proved this with the use of my sound effects, each one is very loud fun and quirky. My target audience has a very large age gap, I have done this because I want the audience to feel they can watch my advertisement without feeling they shouldn’t because they do not fulfil the stereotype of who should because of imagery, text and music used. Voice over, File naming, Sound list When you listen to my soundtrack you will realise that the voice over was pre-recorded in a studio using a ‘Zoom’. I wrote out the script and recorded it myself, which I then edited on Cubase later. I altered the volume and speed of because at first it was very slow. In Cubase I had to rename almost every track so I could define what instrument was what. This was something I was new too but I later realized in post-production how useful it is. I used various sounds from Cubase to produce my soundtrack, I made a sound list which helps me and narrows down what sound I am looking for. This is good when you know exactly what sound you want. I also used a keyboard which I connected to Cubase so I could experiment myself.
