1. How your project will tackle the problem of estimation and costing of
the components which are used in Smart Home Automation System ?
• As we had made our project on Arduino based not on IOT based, so it is quite
cheaper.
• The components which we use are also not much costlier and also we had to buy
only the hardware components not the software one because the software which
we had use is easily availableon internet and it is totallyfree of cost.
• If we talk about the amount of money we have to spent, the approximate data is:
So, the approximate overallcost willbe under Rs. 2000 with the additionof cost of
jumper wires, breadboards and all other small components.
• The programming will be done on Arduino IDE Software and the application used
willbe downloaded by google play store at free of cost.
Major Components Cost
Arduino UNO R3 Rs. 580
Bluetooth Module HC-05 Rs. 500
Relay Module Rs. 400
2. How Your Project is Effective in Terms of Energy Sufficiency, Reliability and
Security ?
Energy Sufficiency
• There are mainly three components in out project so it consumes little amount of power.
The Bluetooth and Relay Module is powered by Arduino and Arduino itself need only 5V DC
to operate.
• Light outs: Sometime we leavethe light turn ON even when that is not in use because of
some important work or laziness. But with the help of home automationSystem, we can turn
it OFF by pressing just a button on our Phone. And it also implies for fan, motor, etc. By
doing this, we does not exceed the environment limitsas well.
Reliability
• Access to Low PowerSensor Technology
• Easy Connectivity
Security
• For the security in our Project , we first need to pair our device with Bluetooth Module and
we have to change password regularly so that it cannot be accessed by other device.
Further if the smart phone is having smart camera then it would be able to take the picture
of the person who is trying to access system withoutpermission.
3. Discuss about the 5 cons of your Project.
I. For the working of Home automation System it is necessary to have good
smart phone.
II. For the Programming and Setup, Skilled And Knowledgeable Person is
required. It cannot be done by the person who is unaware of programming
and all.
III. Sometimes due to error in programming or bug in programming, the Home
Automation System may not work properly and consumers might have to
face problems.
IV. Privacy concern.
V. Fear of getting Technology outdated as we are developing so fast.
4. If a Major fault occurs in your system, how would you tackle it by yourselves.
Also discuss those major fault briefly.
Home automation , though is much less exceptional when it goes wrong. And , unfortunately,
due to the things like poorly integrated sub system and inadequate functionality , Home
automationproblem can arise. Here we have tested some problems that might be occur with
our project and the way to tackle it :-
I. Device is not being connected by Bluetooth module. This is the problem that can affect all
systems. This fault may occur mainly due to effect of vibration or heat of the load being
controlled.
How to Tackle: Keep the system little bit away from the load or another solution is to provide it
isolation from heat and vibrations.
II. Problem with Relays: Basically Relay is an electromechanical device which acts as an
electrical circuit operated by electromagnet. Since it possess the mechanical parts like
armature and spring it means there will be unction as wellas fatigue which increases the
chances of failure.
How to Tackle: Relay always produce ticking sound while energize and de-energize. If the
sound does not produce there then we have to replace it by new one.
5. How your project is different from your other companions team ?
• Cost Effective
• Easy to use and Implement
• Consumes less Power
• Users Friendly Especially for elders and illiterate
6. What are the Merits and Demerits of your system if it is used in rural Areas.
Merits
• Helps in developingrural areas.
• Farmers take more benefits from this as when they are in field, they can automate theirhome
appliances easily.
• Peoples also emphasize towardshigher education and knowledge.
Demerits
• Might not be cost effectivefor poor peoples.
• Uneducated person cannot able to understand its features and can’t be able to run it.
• Security issue.
7. How you will explain elders and illiterate to use the Automated System. Discuss
considering both of them.
No one is too old to learn something new, eventechnology. Seniors and Technology aren’t
mismatchedas one might imagine. Many senior and illiterateperson easily learn how to use
smartphone and new technology seamlessly, navigate the internet and connecting with social
networking sites as well.
By following ways we can explain the Elders and Illiterates to use the Automation System:
I. By Explaining the Value: Showing them how easy it is to turn ON or OFF light withoutmoving
anywhere. Beyond This, we can make them understand how the security can be improved
with Automated systemlike CCTV surveillance.
II. Talk it slow: It is always best to start small and have multiple session so we don’t give senior
and illiterate information overloaded. For example, we can start with showing them how to
open and enter the password in mobile application by which the system willbe controlled.
III. Give them Confidence: Celebratetheir small victories. Focus on the Positiveand what they
are doing right and always praise their step forward.
IV. Show Patience: Even when teaching gets repetitive. It is important to stop frequently and
take time to answer the question of the elders or illustrateone. Sometimes we need to repeat
concept or steps multiple time until they get it. Tell them its completely ok.
